Variety reports that following its huge opening in North America this weekend, Paramount Pictures are celebrating the occasion with the announcement of a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sequel. It will be released on June 3rd, 2016, and while there's currently no word on whether director Jonathan Liebesman will return, Michael Bay is set to return as producer and screenwriters Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec are set to write.

So as fans we were able to exercise some influence getting a Japanese Shredder and a non alien origin. For the sequel, let's push for some character development, a Hamato Yoshi/Oroku Saki link, and maybe Casey Jones.
Great News!
I hope that they can make up for some of their mistakes with this sequel and we get Bebop and Rocksteady!

I went to look up what other movies are out in June 2016
so far
June 3rd
Sausage Party
TMNT
June 10th
Uncharted
June 17th
Finding Dory
How to Train your Dragon 3
(I assume 1 of these movies will change date)
June 24th
The Mummy
I Just hope it's June 3rd for the UK too.
Oof. Well, it was pretty much inevitable at this point. You can count me out, but... whatever. Is what it is.
Worth noting: this will be coming out the week after X-Men: Apocalypse and three weeks after Captain America 3. And a good few sure-to-be-huge kids' movies are gonna follow it within a few weeks. So it may have a lot more competition than the first one.
Let the hype begin?

Haha, this is priceless, considering what this place has been like the last couple of months.
93.7 mil in august against all odds. I think it will hold its own:D
In its opening weekend, X-Men: Days of Future Past made $90,823,660 domestic and $172,042,661 foreign. $262,866,321 worldwide total.
GotG's worldwide opening weekend was $161.7m, for some comparison.
An earlier summer date might help TMNT2's box office, but the competition will also be more fierce.

Okay firstly, this sequel will likely be postponed in development like the first one was. Second, I don't really know how dates are chosen for film releases, but why don't they just see what else is coming out, gauge the competition, and adjust accordingly?
Also, maybe the people who hated this film can just give it a rest now. There is obviously nothing to hope for in a sequel or you, so just go back to your Nick forums or Comic forums or whatever.
There's still telling what the movie makes its second weekend with Expendables III coming out (Those movies didn't bring big money in US per say, but all raked big worldwide), and the fact that the fandom of the franchise was to say the least...divided.

I guess they picked the date just incase someone else picks it for there movie. Looking at movies in June 2016 there are no big movies like from DC or Marvel but X-Men Apocalypse is out on May 27th.
It could be postponed but I find that when they make sequels they seem to run more smoothly due to they now know what the CGI and designs are going to be like but they probably have some minor changes.

I am happy this is happening but at the same time I don't understand as this movie has not made a profit and wont do so until its made more then $250 Million at the box office. I thought movies only got sequels if they make they make the studios enough profit?.
Does anyone know why a movie needs to make twice its budget to break even? In the rest of the world to break even you only need to earn back the money you spent, not twice the amount you spent. It does not make logical sense anyone care to explain?

Keep in mind, along with Cap 3, the Batman vs. Superman movie is going to fall in a spot somewhere in Summer 2016. Yet another bullet to dodge.

I think it's scheduled for March right now, but if there are any delays, I think June 10th is prime real estate. Release dates get adjusted fairly regularly, so it;s way too early to assume how it'll shake out.

i had no doubt they wanted to make a sequel, just depended on how much money this one made. (the mutagen on shredders finger, stockman for 2 seconds, the turtlevan just being made at the end)
while i personally enjoyed this movie, i see where others are coming from. however, i honestly believe the second one will be better:
this movie obviously had multiple changes due to fan reactions, the second one i think will know what we want and has already established they arent aliens, shredder isnt white etc.
weve got their basic introductions and backstory. while the second one can dive deeper into them, we wont have to deal with first meetings and can get right to the turtles, leaving more time for the plot
really high hopes for the second one. i can definitely see casey being addedd, easily, making his backstory come from the events of the first movie. however i dont really see bebop and rocksteady, as the cannister of mutagen that fell with shredder was supposedly the only one. but i could see them going with a villain like bishop, which would be incredible to see in a movie, and have him and the government start hunting the turtles

To put a silver lining on this cloud, as much as I hate the movie, there's nothing the movie gets so terribly wrong that it eliminates any chance of a sequel learning from the mistakes of the first film and being decent. That's certainly not something that could have been said if they stuck with the Blue Door. Now, do I expect this to happen? God no, not in a million years. Still, it's worth mentioning. Never would have thought Scooby Doo 2 could be so wonderful after how awful the first movie was.

Why would they bring Nemec and Applebaum back?
If they had confidence in them they wouldn't have brought Dougherty in for rewrites on the first one.
Maybe they'll get a chance in the sequel to change their origin back to being alien warriors like they originally planned.

Well there is a chance that the sequel might be an improvement from the first one. Look at the transition between the first and second purge movies. They obviously took in alot of criticism from that the first film faced and improved it in the sequel. A 20% to an 58% on RT is an huge difference. Im just glad that this studio listens to backlash at least. I could be wrong though.

I've stated my opinions on this movie I liked it but it was poorly written and executed. I was hoping for a sequel because if there wasn't going to be one made there would not have been another live movie in the next 30 years.

Domestically, theatres keep about 40% of the profits. Internationally, they generally keep about 55%. I could be slightly off on the numbers, but not too much.
They have to make about double their budget because the theatres need to make money too. Although people overdo it because Turtles will make a huge profit on toys, 3D glasses, and clothing. Add in the sale of each "drive" to each theatre and it's probably profitable for the company before doubling the budget.
Turtles sequel is announced because $125M on opening weekend (with a lot of markets not even opened yet) is huge numbers. It should make back it's budget by the end of next weekend. Anything after that will be profit.
I'd expect this movie to hit $350M-$450M, approximately. That's a profit of $50M-$100M, without including the money they'll make from merch.

That's because the studio isn't getting all of that money.
This is how it usually breaks down.
1st two weeks, the studios will get roughly 80 to 90 percent of the BO, the rest goes to the theaters who are playing it. The next week, the percentage drops some more, 70% to 80% goes to the studios in it's 3rd week, the rest goes to the theaters. The cycle will continue until about the first month in, then the split is usually even. Now, the reason why domestic markets are more important than the foreign markets, is because OS, the percentage of what the studios get back is a hell of a lot less. In China, as much money as Transformers makes there, they will only get back 20% of the gross, the Chinese government keeps the rest. This is why often, you see movies perform bad at the domestic front, but blow up OS, enough to cover it's production costs and then some, it still won't get greenlit for a sequel. But, that's why, the studios aren't seeing that money unless it's getting into the 700 to 800 WW scenario.
And then, there is also this to consider, like any big budget project, most of it is financed, so, not only does the studio have to pay back the loans, they also have to pay back the interest on the loans. And there is also the possibility that several of the key players, like producers, directors, the main actors, script writers, will also get a cut in something known as royalties.
This sequel talk, I will take with a grain of salt. Just look at the past folks. Weren't we in the same boat back in 2007 when that movie came out number one at the BO? I swore Munroe was claiming, sequel time, and it never got off the ground, despite a poster for it and everything. Heck, look at this year's Amazing Spider-Man, they had all of these plans with spin offs and whatnot, but despite the movie still being a success, it underperformed in the long run (no legs) so it looks like the studio execs are panicking like crazy over at Sony due to their initial plans might be squashed.

They never really showed what happened to eric sacks so I think it would be cool to show him getting up from where he was left in the first one to reveal he is infact, krang now needing a body, or an utrom. This would bring the plot hole of the first movie to rest where once theysaid the ooz was from alien orgin then later stating they made it for a cure type thing. Then it could show him along with baxter creating bebop and rocksteady while an accident happens and causes baxter to turn into the fly for the end reveal and final battle but having b&r through the rest of the film with shredder..:D just a thought.....

I'm glad that a sequel is happening, they just need a better writer, and not more then one.
When toxic Schadenfreude backfires you get the kind of genuine anger (and confusion) that's generated in this thread. Sorry, but a lot of people bought this on themselves. The sadistic corner of my mind can’t help but release a chuckle here and there. Did people genuinely think this was going to flop? So as fans we were able to exercise some influence getting a Japanese Shredder and a non alien origin. For the sequel, let's push for some character development, a Hamato Yoshi/Oroku Saki link, and maybe Casey Jones.

When toxic Schadenfreude backfires you get the kind of genuine anger (and confusion) that's generated in this thread. Sorry, but a lot of people bought this on themselves. Exactly.. So many folks frequented THIS sub forum on a daily basis literally just to trash and slander this movie. Everyday it was a different reason for why this movie would fail. This movie and it's production stood it's ground and kept on moving forward against all odds. So many people passionate and committed to it's failure. Nothing taste better than this. NOTHING! This movie will succeed in SPITE of everyone that made it their everyday duty trying to bury it in negativity.
As a TMNT fan.. with an AWESOME Nick show.. an awesome comic, an awesome documentary and history book, and now TMNT is number 1 at the box office with a sequel announced for 2016. I am the happiest fan in the world right now. What better way to celebrate 30 years of TMNT!
Now watch the same folks start the same " This one is going to fail and here are a billion reasons" rhetoric the second the film is announced  They are already starting with the same Marvel ******** all over again. Sad.

It wasn't so much the nostrils, but the protruding noses on Raph and Mikey that were awful. If they rounded them more like Donny's and Leo's, then it wouldn't look so bad. But right now, Raph's looked shiny and gross, like he had boogies coming out.
Damn, its no wonder Hollywood worries about the BO as much as they do. Thank You for explaining this I have learned a lot. for years I always went by if the movie made more then its budget that it made a profit, that's obviously not case, as I thought it once to be.

In case no one saw it, here's what Paramount chairman and CEO Brad Grey said in Entertainment Weekly.
“To know moviegoers are embracing the Turtles with such enthusiasm is everything that we and all our filmmakers have been hoping for,” said Paramount chairman and CEO Brad Grey in a statement. “We are thrilled with this weekend’s result, the enduring power of this franchise, and the opportunity to make another one.”
“Launching a new take on the Turtles into the feature film world was a daunting task,” added Adam Goodman, president of Paramount’s Film Group, “because as fans of them ourselves, we felt a great responsibility to ensure audiences were going to experience everything they loved about the Turtles, while also getting to see them brought to life in a way they had never been seen before. The result exceeded our high expectations and the response to the film is beyond great, making it all the more fun to get started on the continuation of their story.”

Considering how much money was probably wasted by the constant rewrites, reshoots, and delays, they could probably do that and still wind up with a film that looks like it had a much bigger budget.

There have been countless comments from many of the "leery" crowd that they felt that the movie would be a huge hit despite it likely being a bad movie in the same way that the Transformers movies are seen as bad by many and yet become hits. It's only comparitively recently that it looked like perhaps this movie might not go the same route due to things which looked like the studio hedging their bets.
For my part I've said myself that it would beat the recent projections due to them being made before promotion realy ramped up but after long thinking it would be a huge hit despite it being garbage but but was beginning to suspect it might...repeat might not be a runaway moneymaker after all. I have not seen the movie and probably won't see it in theaters. The fact that it's getting predictably hideous reviews is enough to make me not want to bother. Even people that are excited about this news in this thread have said it left a lot to be desired. I'm just wondering for those that have seen and have their list of things that need to be improved in the sequel have you seen the transformers movies? Each one got progressively worse and now that this has made a lot of money what incentive is there for the producers to do anything different? This was a cash grab and it worked for them. The second one won't be any different.

I'm excited, I think the movie was good and look forward to another adventure in this universe. especially that they seem to know now where they are heading. As far as the release date, summers will be bloated with big movies every week, that's how it always is, if you don't want competition you release it another season, however even if there's more competition more people see movies in the summer which is why most movies are released then.

Agree. If Fox can get 3 dimensions from some CGI apes, that are the stars of their movie, not the humans, (and hair is harder to CGI than reptile skin) then TMNT can do the same!
But yeah, Turtle development, (I would love to see them having to crash at April's place, should be interesting) ease up on the shaky cam, close up shots and quick editing, get a more cohesive script, and we might have something. Really, I think they should look into the Triceratons, it's something that hasn't been seen in the big screen yet. Hell, even Nick toon hasn't been using them yet, so it would be a way for the movie to be very distinct from the Nick toon.

I ain't arguin' with you either, pal. :) Just saying, a whole lot of people on this very forum were really looking forward to the movie, and were completely let down by it, it was more than a few people, they all gave good reasons for it, and yes, I do respect their opinion enough to take it into consideration. If anything, I'm more considerate of someone who was clearly very enthusiastic up until a certain point, taking the time to say, "You know what? I wasn't happy with it, and here's why..." I'll always take far more consideration of those kind of opinions, over someone who said over a year ago this was going to be "the best movie ever omg" and came out of it saying, "anyone who didn't like it is just (some dumb name)." There's objective opinions and biased opinions, and blatantly biased opinions, positive or negative, are worthless.
Every single time a person calls someone a name for disagreeing with them over a movie, their opinion loses all its merit, because it proves they can't handle anyone even trying to show them that something may not be as perfect as they want to admit. And the fact is, whenever the very best thing anyone can say about something is, "Don't expect too much", that means it's a badly-made product no matter what it is. Movie, record, video game... "Please Lower Your Standards Beforehand" is not an endorsement.
If we're asking "whose standard", I'll say, anyone who isn't a fan. "Fan" opinions don't matter to me, because fans are biased, and most people who don't identify as "fans" have few good things to say about this one, strictly as as to whether or not it's a good movie. Am I going to avoid this movie as some people are? No. Do I wish they made it this way? No. Do I want to go through this all again in two years? No. Definitely no. Not if people are going to continue to act the same way they've been for over six months, that's for sure.

Love it or hate it we all either like or dislike it for our own reasons, so I dont think its fair to really call it garbage because its not up to your standards anymore than I could call gaurdians garbagebecause im not into space sh't. Dont take this as an insult just an opinion.....

Try being a Voltron fan.
Eh, who am I kidding, they'd ruin it.
Set on Earth in the distant future, Zac Efron, Zooey Deschanel, and Michael Cera are VOLTRON FORCE. Genetically modified to be the best video gamers ever, they remotely pilot giant metal eagles (played by Andy Serkis) using their extraordinary "gaming" gifts over a T-Mobile® super-speed connection. They Risk it all from their Playstation 9® systems to battle the Russians, who've created giant angry bears with the crushing might of Vladimir Putin (also played by Andy Serkis), in their secret lab, deep beneath Chernobyl, to take over the world with their evil socialism.

I'm glad that a sequel is happening, they just need a better writer, and not more then one.
Oh please no. Having one writer, no matter how good they are, is a bad idea. Did you know Maleficent had the writer of The Lion King. Maleficent got 48% from Rotten Tomatoes. Several others movies that had critically acclaimed writers did poorly too because there was only one. For a movie which has a deadline they need multiple great writers to finish it quickly and to properly edit it on time.
I would be more excited if they didn't keep the same directors or writers.
I don't want two sh*tty written movies in a row. I want a good one.
The writers for TMNT are great. The main problem was the director and producers which are known to impede writers from doing their job correctly.
Andre Nemec and Josh Appelbaum have a good track record. Most of their movies got above 50% and their work on TV shows averaged to about 7/10. It seems like the writers were conflicted with Jonathan Liebesman. A movie does poorly if the writer and director can't communicate and work together properly.
Edit: Also Andre Nemec and Josh Appelbaum were only responsible for rewrites on certain parts.(Well it seems like it) They are not responsible for the full plot.

I thought the turtles really needed to be more than one-dimensional stereotypes, but that's something that could easily be addressed in a sequel by slowing the pace down and giving the turtles more screen time.

I did like the movie, and the kid was the best part for me. In the end of it all, even if the franchise is mature, kids are still the driving force behind it, I would think it be very arrogant to keep them out of the pictures altogether just because some people don't like kids in movies.

I agree with the multiple writers. Not to mention, when dealing with the four Turtles whose personalities are very distinct, having one writer risks the chance that all of the Turtles start become similar. I've seen complaints that Leo and Raph are almost mirrors of eachother, and Leo himself doesn't exactly have his personality down yet. Yeah, we know he's the leader, but it would be nice if we can get a scenario to show how cool, calm and calculated he can be under pressure.

hmm..Now that I think about it, the turtles were written pretty well and I did laugh at some of the jokes. But the plot was so poor that I almost forgot about that. Seriously Jonathan Liebesman needs to get replaced.
Or Jon just needs to let the writers do their job. Jon needs to trust them. I know Jon tends to do some writing for his movies. He did work on a movie that got 67% from Rotten Tomatoes, so I think the relationship between the writers and the director are important.

Yeah, each character needs to be distinct. I didn't pick up on them being too similar in the movie but I can see it now. I think it is because Raphael was not given scenes to show his berserker side, which is the main difference between Leo and Raph. Instead Raphael was forced into the "I care about family" cliche. Seriously, Raphael cares about his independence. Leo cares for unity. See the impending conflict by putting those types together.
Leo was dominant in this film though; he made multiple attempts to put Raphael in his place and showed confidence when confronting Raphael. Most people wouldn't have the confidence to stand up against a 6' tall muscular mutant. lol
These types of films usually have multiple writers, anyway. It wouldn't surprise me if someone else comes on board to write another draft when they're done.

Usually it's something that you notice but isn't fleshed out enough to become either good or bad. Generally speaking, anyway.

I'm pretty sure those scenes were shot, it's just the sh!tty shaky cam made it nearly impossible to actually see it. Captain America TWS was guilty of this crap too, had great fight scenes, that was marred by horrible shaky cam. At least as the movie went on, Cap 2 toned it down. TMNT, not so much.

I don't think that the quality of the movie depends on how many writers there are, the writer or writers just need to write acceptable stuff, nothing more.
I'unno, I kinda think too many people throwing ideas around over-complicates things. It's like when you're in school trying to do a group project, and everyone's fighting for their ideas to take priority. In theory, multiple people working together and sharing ideas is great. In practice, it doesn't work too well, and the more people involved only means more people pushing their own agenda on the final product.
So, I'd argue it actually does matter, and the more people are credited as "writers" the worse off everything becomes. Since most movies are studio projects, it's understandable that a lot of them have at least two writers, and that's worked out well sometimes. But generally, the more people have their hands on a movie's script before it's over, the more it messes up the final product. Two or three is all you really need.
As far as I am concerned, it is an x amount of certain people that are against the movie that are the source of the problem, they seem to be causing the constant fighting for the most part.
No, the problem comes from people who can't deal with someone stating a civil and thoroughly-justified opinion without dismissing, insulting and/or generalizing them or their entire "side". Kinda like you just did.
Not saying it's only one side doing it. But some people are way more critical of the "side" they don't line up with. And that just makes it worse.

I had much less trouble following the action in Cap 2. Competent fight choreography and direction are essential. If either side drops the ball there... it's gonna be rough.

You flat-out said "certain people that are against the movie that are the source of the problem". Like what, they're the only source of the problem? That's not true at all. C'mon.
Look here, if these people that I spoke of were down with the movie then I would not being saying stuff like that, it's as simple as that. It isn't my problem that people are extremely sensitive, what am I suppose to think when I see **** that signifies that they do not think highly of the new tmnt movie? Man up man, just a little bit.

Oh, I'm not offended. Just pointing out a double standard. "Haters" get tossed around out as a blanket statement at everyone who doesn't like the thing, no matter how much they can back that up with evidence. The original comment wasn't just talking about people who hadn't seen the movie, after all.
Yet some people jump to defend that behaviour so long as it lines up with their "side". How about we acknowledge insults and troll behaviour regardless of where it's coming from? That'd be nice.
I would just like to throw my 2 cents into this because while im probobly just as guilty at using the word hater I think its more of a lose term. If and when I do use hater, and im not speaking on behalf of everyone but id like to think it applies to all that do, im refering not to those that genuinely dislike the movie or choices made but rather hater is used to describe those that are like trolls and bash anyone who likes the movie and claims those who like it dont have standards or are plants and ect, ect.....personally speaking I like conversations with those of a different opinion because it gives me better perspective of why something I like is so hated or something I hate is so well recieved but it seems impossible to do that on these forums because it always seems to lead to unnecessary arguments...im only stating this because not all possitive people are trying to bash those who dislike this movie or choices behind the movie, rather I just think the genuine questions of why not get lost in all the bickering agendas floating around this place....
Look here, if these people that I spoke of were down with the movie then I would not being saying stuff like that, it's as simple as that. It isn't my problem that people are extremely sensitive, what am I suppose to think when I see **** that signifies that they do not think highly of the new tmnt movie?
So you're saying people are "the source of the problem" because they're criticizing the movie? For that specific reason? And that you wouldn't be saying what you do if they were supporting it?
That kinda proves there's a double standard, doesn't it?

Okay, but you can see how this goes both ways, right? Like, when some people are calling "hater" at everyone that doesn't like the movie, that sets them all on edge. It does go both ways. I just think a lot of people are really quick to attack the "opposing side" over the exact same behaviour they'll let slide when it's coming from their own.
And let's be honest here - both sides are being really sensitive about this stuff right now. And some folks are clearly trying to poke at people to set them off. We could all stand to calm down a bit.

As far as I am concerned, it is an x amount of certain people that are against the movie that are the source of the problem, they seem to be causing the constant fighting for the most part.
I've just been reading through this and keeping quiet but I gotta say I don't think this isn't true at all. Form the guys not happy with this movie I've mostly seen disappontment being expressed and jokes being cracked. But the insults and anger appear to be coming from one side originally. People so eager to denounce the haters despite the fact that their feelings and remarks should in no way hamper your own happiness and excitement. All this talk of haters and whiners when you could just accept some people don't feel like you feel and let it go.
Can't wait to see TMNT II be about Shredder unleashing a deadly mutagen outbreak across NYC, and it be randomly called "The Krang Virus"...
Hey, they'll call it "Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze" because they know that title has never been used before. :D

You are in denial if you think all the people that do not like the movie for various reasons are completely innocent, they are not and that is a fact. It's not enough for the people who do not like it to just simply explain why and move on, no no, they gotta be annoying with their displeasure and be offensive with statements. I have been accused of being a plant and not a tmnt fan just cause I don't like all the versions of tmnt.

It'd be impossible. The people who didn't like this one are only gonna hate the sequel even more, both because it continues something they don't like and because as most sequels do, it will probably amp up all the things they didn't like about the first one (the same way the second "Pirates" movie was content to recycle the exact same jokes and gags, just twice as many). Meanwhile, the people who like it are just going to be even more protective and defensive of the sequel.
They'll never, ever make a movie that "unites" the fandom, but I wish they had managed to make one that wasn't SO polarizing. It can only get worse from here, as far as the arguing goes, which is why I kind of wish they'd just stop making movies altogether. They're not gonna make a better one than this one, nobody's ever gonna stop arguing about it and taking it way too far, so what's the point, anymore?
I never thought I'd say it, but I think we've had enough TMNT movies for a while. It's only ever going to come to this same kind of thing out of people, and that's depressing.

C.O.P.S. or M.A.S.K. Neither one of them have any business being revived, nor enough substantial material to carry an entire movie. Either would be a terrible idea and a complete waste of time and money for everyone involved.
So, either one of those would be perfect. I'm sure it's been discussed.

See, I completely disagree. I think you'd have the exact same rabble-rousers complaining that everything was too "safe" and "boring" if they did any of that. If for no other reason than, this movie's "different for different's sake" approach is something a lot of people celebrate for some reason.
Maybe there'd be a little less arguing, but I doubt it. They'd still be saying people "can't handle change" and are "stuck in the past", only they'd have a lot more ammo.
Anyways, that Jem movie is coming out soon. That sounds pretty terrible.

Yeah, I had to do a double take, I thought he said Herman, and I thought that was some weird comedy about the voices in a guys head.
So, lets see, Hollywood is doing a live action Clifford!

I found out the news this morning but was out all day so I couldn't really comment. Man, what a bummer this is. I guess it's just because this movie feels so rushed and lacking of a cohesive story that I'm worried that within two years time....they'll rush this sequel out just as fast and without care like this movie was. I guess it's interesting to think of the possibilities, but I have to say I don't like the world set up for me in this first movie to care about what kind of adventures these Teenage Mutant Douchebag Turtles are going to get into.

They could always spin it off. I mean, to be fair, She-Ra only had about 1/1000 the interest or fanbase He-Man had. And if the cartoon hadn't been directly spun-off from that, done in the exact same style, and He-Man didn't constantly show up in the show, that audience would've been about 0. Just saying. Nobody's screaming to bring She-Ra back because nobody was really begging for it back in the 80s in the first place.
Hollywood can't even figure out how to make Wonder Woman work, how are they ever gonna handle She-Ra? She's a chick and she has a sword. That's way more detail than Hollywood can handle with their female leads.
After seeing this current tmnt I can only a sequel will is great news.

You do know these two were the Blue Door writers, right? Liebesman is getting too much blame.
Where did you get this info?
I thought Andre Nemec and Josh Appelbaum were not apart of the project when the blue door script got leaked. I remember from an interview that Andre said they were called recently to rewrite the script. Almost all of the writers, beside Jonathan Liebesman, were only credited for rewrites instead of writing the actual script.

I think a lot of the reason the movie feels so rushed/patched together and disjointed is due to scenes being removed/re-shot last minute partly 'cuz of negative reactions from fans. It's pretty heartbreaking, really. I think if the studio ignored fanboys and trolls/nerds and stuck to their guns as far as the route they were initially taking with the movie, we would've a got a more cohesive, connected, fleshed-out story...... but also a white Shredder. Unfortunately due to ****** circumstances (Both PD and angry nerds are to blame), we couldn't have it both ways.

From the script that has their names on it.
Nemec and Applebaum were the originators of alien turtles and a military Foot (and Colonel Schraeder) which is why I'm pissed they're working on the sequel. I've seen what their version of a TMNT script is and it's bad.....really bad.
Evan Dougherty was brought in to rewrite their crappy script. Liebesman didn't have any hand in the script or the rewrites.

I think right there should be your biggest red flag as to why this next movie is doomed. If they're not confident in the stories they're trying to create and are so afraid of changing certain things due to fan backlash, what makes us think they're competent and confident enough to write better stories?

This is what I'm hoping for, but what makes me nervous is they've already set a date. Sure, this could change...but look at Amazing Spider-Man 2. When that was released in 2012, it was a modest hit but it was good enough to set a date for May of this year. Obviously any Spider-Man fan can tell you what a piece of garbage that film is and I'm afraid we'll probably see a pattern with TMNT 2 in 2016.

They should have done like GI Joe and delay it a year and started the whole thing over from scratch. Starting from the script and onwards.

Often, though, when the studio gives it a release date it’s virtually a done deal. Sony has never given Ghostbusters 3 a release date. My guess is Paramount was always confident with TMNT and the sequel has been in the works for a while. Not only did they make the announcement very quickly, but they even announced who's writing it.

If the studio hasn't listened to "angry nerds", we would have gotten the Blue Door version - alien Turtles, alien Shredder, Shia-style Casey, etc. The reason they had to rush and patch things together so much is because they kept having to backtrack away from all of their terrible ideas after each online controversy. It didn't lead to a good movie, but it shows that every last one of their creative instincts were completely lousy. That's not our fault - that's theirs.
...though actually, y'know what? I actually think I agree - I wish they hadn't listened. That movie would have crashed and burned instantly, and would have been legitimately more interesting in a "what the hell were they thinking?" kind of way.

And I didn't say I wouldn't see a She-Ra movie, because I more than likely would, I just don't think they'd have any idea how to do it. The entire cast is chicks, and one possibly-bi-curious male archer with a 70s porn 'stache. How would anyone in Hollywood make that work? They can't even write one competent female character at a time, let alone a dozen. They'd have to pull a "Red Sonja" and have the male lead (probably He-Man in a guest-star role) carry the entire movie, just so they don't have to actually write a female character with any depth. That's how they always do it.

Oh yeah, it's our fault. :trolleye: Last I checked, none of the leery crowd were in the editing room - they didn't tell 'em how to cut it. Seriously, if you can't edit together a cohesive story, fine - but don't blame it on someone else. They're professionals, I'm not taking any blame for their lack of pride or talent in their chosen profession.
Yes, I have been waiting for a live action Last Unicorn since I saw Legend. Oh well, I am patient, I can wait.
And about the whole white Shredder thing. They did it stupid. They should have gone and done everything they were going to do, make Sachs into a puppet who fails at the end, and then, the ending credits scene should have been Sachs, walking around his mansion, all banged up, when the real Shredder shows up out of the shadows, and gives one of them "I am so disappointed in you, you failed me for the last time. Gather your men, it's time for them to meet their real master!"

If the studio hasn't listened to "angry nerds", we would have gotten the Blue Door version - alien Turtles, alien Shredder, Shia-style Casey, etc. The reason they had to rush and patch things together is because they kept having to backtrack away from all of their terrible ideas. It didn't lead to a good movie, but it shows that every last one of their creative instincts were completely lousy.
...actually, y'know what? I actually think I agree - I wish they hadn't listened. That movie would have crashed and burned instantly, and would have been legitimately more interesting in a "what the hell were they thinking?" kind of way.
The movie was horrible from the get-go when they approved and started working on the Blue Door version. No matter how much patchwork and re-shot scenes you throw in there, it's still horrible since it's using that as the base.
They should have swallowed their pride, admit they had no idea what they were doing and started over from scratch.
