i need fanfic advice...

okay, here's the deal: i have an idea for a tmnt fanfic, which i've been planning to write for awhile, and it originally featured 4 new characters. however, upon reflection, i'm concerned that four may be too many for people to keep up with, or keep interest in. i'd introduce them gradually, but i want people to actually read it. i know i'll need at least two of the characters for plot reasons, but i'd like some input on the number of characters. so, there you have it. let the wisdom fly!

Thats my trouble...pretty much all of my fic ideas involve my own characters. Introducing them can be a pain in the rear. Personally, I don't see a problem with new character quantity as long as its still a TMNT story.

The only thing that bothers me about hearing "4" characters is the cliche potential. You're not going to give each of the Turtles a girlfriend or boyfriend are you? I've just read one too predictable story to many...

Well, the number of characters isn't really a problem. I think as long as you don't focus too much on them, you could get away with it. How you write is just as important as what you write.

In fact HT is the only person who's read it! ... she said it was like a soap opera!! :lol:

Oh, I don't think that the quantity is the main problem. I have another trouble... I've invented an exciting plot but for it to be realized, Shredder must become a good guy at the end of the story :!: Is it allowed by the rules of the fanfiction? :-?

Well yeah... four girls n four turtle girls, two of which are already gettin paired up. Like I said, it's kinda like Sex n the City (minus the sex). *ducks baps* I still liked though!

But I think introducing four characters in a story is fine. Unless you're writing a short story... then that won't work. I have like... 8 or so other characters besides the TMNT in HI NO DE. Mummer's Dance, there's Don n Heather, and then the family and all the workers on the farm (not to mention the horses)!

The trick is introducing the characters in turns, and then perhaps taking turns with them in different scenes. It's bad to always have all of them present and together all the time (I read a couple stories and RPG's like that... :dead: )

Even with other things, like GBs, TFs, Digimon, LotR, Harry Potter, etc, where you got a big main character cast, they'll just focus on a handful of characters at a time, like those with a dilemmia or a plan of action, etc. Hope this also helps.

Well.. it is fanfiction, so anything goes (even though many other readers may not like it ;) )! I killed off an original bad guy. *shrug*

My characters weren't meant to get paired up... just that one unfortunate pairing.. ;) I can kind of see the Sex in the City thing... kinda....

Thanks for the advice, folks! i'll try not to make it too cliche. i think i have enough plot twists to avoid that, and i'm not pairing up all of the turtles. i may only write romance for two, three at most. i'll take your advice concerning this fic. thanks a lot!

Well... What if Shredder finds his brother? According to the cartoon, he had a younger brother (unfortunately I haven't seen this episode 'cause the whole Season 5 was missed when the TMNT were shown in Russia :cry: ). As far as I know, in the comics he had an elder brother. So I thought that if the creators themselves couldn't decide whether to make him younger or older I could suggest my own version. In my fanfic the guy will be his twin. :lol: I suppose that's allowed, isn't it?

Of course its allowed! If you want to make Shredder into a Transexual from Transylvania you're allowed to. Oooohhh...I now have an image of him dressed up as Dr. Frankenfurter...this is not a good thing. *smacks head* Out out damn thought!

Ahem. Seriously though, I'd love to see some more fanfiction with Shredder. I'm starting to watch the cartoons again...so maybe I'll get around to writing some.

Okay, now *I* need some advice. I have a story I'm working on that I've been calling Sweet Dreams. That's the working title, but someone else is going to use it as a title for another fic, so I'm changing it. I didn't really like the title anyway, gives too much away.

So... I need a new title. Any ideas? It's an erotic thriller based around five dream sequences. I can give more details if necessary. I don't want it to be too obvious. I've tried my dictionary, my reverse dictionary, title generators, everything, but I'm stuck. Just throw ideas at me people!

Actually, I really like Pleasant Dreams, and a few other suggestions, but the entire thing is not dreams, there's more plot to it.

So I decided on "Pleasant Dreams, Waking Nightmare". A bit longer than I usually like to use, but it describes both parts of the story. But knowing me, it'll change again before I put it out if I find something I like better.
