1. In the opening, we were told the foot clan were called the foot clan because they stomp on people....

2. They used Red Ear Sliders as baby turtles. RES are neither tortoise nor turtles. They are terrapins.

In layman terms,
Turtle - sea
Tortoise - land
Terrapins - hybrid (both)

*The whole "Turtles on Speed" aspect of the Adrenalin scene.
*Everyone calling the Foot Clan only that and calling April "O'Neil."
*Raph slamming into the Hummer was even worse in the movie, since it also sent it careening down a hill.

1. It seemed the Foot Clan wasn't really a ninja clan, it was more like a bunch of random terrorists.

2. It would have been the same if Karai wasn't in the movie. Why do they take one of the most charismatic characters of the franchise and put her in a so superfluous role?

3. Shredder's armor looked too baroque.

4. Megan Fox's acting.

5. Lack of Oroku Saki and Hamato Yoshi's plot.

6. Some actions of the characters are not well explained and everything happens too fast.

etc.

Your English was good. No need to apologize. Even if it had flaws they were really minor.Better than most "Fluent" English Speaker/Writers.

Not entirely correct.

From Wikipedia:
Terrapin is a term used in English for several smaller species of turtle living in fresh or brackish water. Terrapins do not form a taxonomic unit, and may not be very closely related, although many belong to the families Geoemydidae and Emydidae. A distinction between turtle and terrapin does not exist in other European languages. The name "terrapin" is derived from the Algonquian word torope,[1] used for Malaclemys terrapin. In the UK red-eared sliders are known as "red-eared terrapins"

All terrapins are turtles, but all turtles are not terrapins.

- Mikey's creepy crush on April.

- The Shredder's Armor ( I like the helmet, but they went overboard with all the knives and daggers).

- Megan Fox's acting. She was just not ready for a role like this.

- The Climax is a shot-for-shot remake of the Amazing Spider-Man.

- Despite him only being the producer, the movie feels very much like Michael Bay movie.

- Will Arnett as Vernon. He just isn't as over the top as cartoon Vernon.

- The Turtles are Secondary Characters, not as much in the Transformers movies though.

- The Foot Clan aren't ninjas in the movie, and are completely ineffective against the turtles seeing as how they're bulletproof.

- Whoopi Goldberg isn't in the movie long enough.

The stupid mutagen is a cure plot... Them ignoring what it did to ordinary rats and turtles and using it as a cute anyway. Yeah we experiment on animals but I kinda think them mutating into walking talking creatures is way too big of a side effect to just shrug and be like 'eh I'm pretty sure it won't do that to humans'

Sachs had no place in this movie. None. Baxter or Karai or both could gave done the same role.

Karai did nothing of note in this movie. Easily coulda just been some big nameless guy leading everyone.

The foot being public knowledge instead of a mystery or a rumor.

We barely knew these turtles. A lot was left for us to assume based on previous incarnations. That shouldn't count since this isn't a sequel but a whole new thing.

Raph delivers a big confession of stuff we never saw. We only assume he bullies don and mike based on past incarnations.

Vernon having any sort of important role.

Splinter's horrible design.

I.... Really want to insult the turtles and splinter learning martail arts from a book... But then I remember that the original had normal rat splinter learn just by watching Yoshi train from his cage. It's the same kind of bs.

Lack of revenge plot. Lack of Yoshi.

Movie takes place in about 2 days. No real time for downtime to see how these turtles interact, what they do on their day to day, hanging with April, etc. it was all rush, rush, rush. Who cares, just assume everything based on past incarnations.

Obvious Crush promotion. Honestly just show mikey drink some. He didn't have to specifically tell April he had crush in the fridge. He could have just said 'soda'.

It just wasn't a good movie. As a tmnt movie or as a movie in general. If this was any other movie introducing some new kind of mutant/alien characters it would fail miserably because there would be no past version for us to fill in the blanks with.

Project Renaissance was top-secret, wasn't it? So why would they let a ten-year old girl run around with a video camera?

Both times April went to Whoopi with news of a vigilante, she had pictures of evidence of his existence. Why did she not pull them out? Especially the second time, when she had a blurry image of them. If Sacks trusted the picture, why wouldn't Whoopi?

So the Foot Clan took Leo, Raph, and Don but left Raph dead. Why? Isn't it a lot easier to extract blood from a dead turtle rather than a living one? And why did the Foot just decide to leave Splinter alone?

Karai was a useless fool in this movie. Just sayin'.

I was just amazed at how blatant the Victoria's Secret ad was.

Splinter learned how to be a ninja from a book. A book. Reading it is a lot different from watching someone else perform the moves.

I really liked Raph's little speech at the end, but then they turned it into a joke. Damn.

This isn't a problem specific to TMNT but the over the top CGI action scenes really lose me. When it seems so unrealistic and comes across as what it is, a CGI cartoon, it takes me out of the film and I feel no sense of threat.

Shredder using a robot suit makes him seem weaker. If he were a real threat he would not need robot armor, his martial arts skills would be power enough.

The foot clan being generic terrorists rather than ninja.

Lack of any real character development. Shredder in particular had very little characterization.

How contrived it is that April happened to be the girl who looked after them as a child then through pure coincidence ends up being the first human to discover them as mutants.

The first part with April going the distance for her job was a great idea and I liked it and first time I ever liked Megan Fox as an actor however that quickly went out the window when she got down in the sewer she just became her typically ditzy self.

Its terribly obvious Fitchner was initially Shredder.

Shredder never finishes a job and more like just mutters his plan then just saunters off.

Shredder wants to destroy the Turtles lair and sets off two little dinky smoke bombs and saunters off. If there was a scene that needed more Michael Bay that one was it! Give me a reason to hate The Shredder.

Shredder and Sach's primary motivation to "Get Richer" by using the same device as the Lizard from Amazing Spider-man by unleashing a virus into the airways of New York. Its like this dude has a snowy mountain fortress its safe to say your filthy rich and you could burn money at that point because you are loaded. I'm also sure that you could probably print your own money at that point.

April landing the killing blow. Now I don't want the damsel in distress April but I would have rather the Turtles actually win a fight with Shredder instead of constantly being beat or assisted. Its like you need to show the unity of the Turtles by fighting together and being more powerful as one unit.

I have other gripes, but these are definitely on my list. The Crush promo was blatant (and why, in the middle of a fight, would anyone think it's important to talk about the specific soda/pop brand they've stashed is beyond me), but the Pizza Hut one was even worse since we had to listen to Splinter essentially read off of the menu to us.

The learning of martial arts from a book DOES bother me. At least when the rat mimicked Yoshi, it showed two really important things: martial arts always were part of Splinter's essence, and the bond between Yoshi and Splinter is strong. And establishing that link is essential since Splinter and Shredder are supposed to have a blood feud.

Your point about Splinter's mutagen is spot on, too. And for that matter, it's almost as if Shredder didn't care as much about Raph, either. In the lair battle, the ceiling caves in and the Foot decide to abandon Raph because he's dead (wouldn't his blood still be OK to use, though?). But a short while later, when Raph shows up at the lab, Shredder taunts Raph by saying the 4th tank is for him. Still more absurd is that Shredder beats the crap out of Raph and has him in a position to either kill or capture him, yet turns his back and walks away.

I'm glad I'm not the only TMNT "fan" who thought this movie was abysmal. Obviously it has its charming moments, and of course everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but the people raving about the movie don't seem to have much invested in TMNT or expect much from movies in general.

I thought the turtles cracked out on adrenaline was hilarious, especially since it lightened the mood after the turtles were literally getting their blood drained out of them. I do see why some people would think otherwise though. Maybe in the sequel they'll share a joint and order 15 pizzas

My least favorite scene in the movie was shredder's "reclaim victory" speech. I laughed in my head thinking "really, is this the best they could come up with?"

I actually liked sacks/shredder's half-assed plan to poison the city. Reminded me of something straight out of a cartoon. Even if they would have succeeded how did they expect to get away with it? This movie really was a modern adaptation of the old cartoon, in my opinion. The amount of plot holes, intentional or not, gave the movie a cartoon feeling which helped balance out the more serious moments

Yes! Another completely absurd moment! And it's symptomatic of one of the film's most irritating flaws: April is the main attraction. I mean, how intricately and uniquely she's tied to the TMNT's origin is annoying. We're supposed to believe that she had a role in their creation, and then by great coincidence 15 years later she's the first and only one to know of them?

^ This. Red-Eared Sliders are still turtles. Heck, Box Turtles are turtles not tortoises, but are still land dwelling turtles, so doing a strict layman terms grouping is severely wrong. Especially when they way you grouped it is wrong, since Terrapins are Turtles, not a "third grouping".

I found it rather pointless and odd for April's dad to be drawing Japanese symbols in a book concerning "Project Renaissance." Why not Italian??

Also, at what point did the Turtles come across the symbol and decide to start using it as their 'calling card?'

Why does Splinter dress Japanese if he has NO ties to Japan other than finding a book about Ninjitsu. But of course, he's dressed like that before he finds the book.

Hamato Yoshi no longer exists in this incarnation of the Turtles.

The scarring on Shredder's face. What is the point is Splinter didn't cause it?

Why do Splinter and the Turtles has problems with the Shredder if there is no connection between the two? How does Splinter even know Shredder exists if Sacks is the one working in the lab?? Does Sacks talk all day about his awesome metal ninja master at work??

Why would Sacks let April film what appears to be obvious experimental testing on animals?

Why is Sacks so rich? He was a scientist and now he just hangs out at home all day.

It's never specified that they are sea turtles, considering Duncan did draw them with flippers, as their living are was more fit for fresh water turtles as seat turtles do not bask and only goes on land to lay eggs. And Eastman's sketch of the pages, the turtles do not have flippers.

If anything they could be pig-nosed turtles, a fresh water turtle with true flippers like a sea turtle. Although pig-noses don't bask on land either.

Not that I find it a big deal, but didn't Sacks call them "box turtles"? I definitely think they were designed after box turtles, regardless. Especially when considering the shape of their shells in the design.

4. Megan Fox's acting.

etc.

I strongly feel that people are hating on Fox the way they automatically hate on Bay.....Fox was surprisingly decent/good in this movie. I found her convincing most of the time and so did my Wife - who is hyper critical of bad or unbelievable acting. Obviously, everyone interprets things differently, but I really felt that the acting in this movie by everyone, overall, was quite good.

The story and editing just seemed like really... "off".. It looks like a movie that had been created to be one thing and turned out to be something totally different. Thats what concerns me more than anything else.

However, some of this could be fixed with a sequel done properly and addressing some of these gaping plot holes. Bring in Casey (please not Shia Lebouf lol) and let him aid the Turtles as they go up against Stockman or Bebop and Rocksteady..

Just please dont "Amazing Spider Man 2" the sequel

The only major problem with the movie is that look isn't consistent with the tone of the movie.

This is clearly a kids movie, and a simple one at that. Bit looks like a generic comic book movie, even though it's taking its cues from the cartoon. It looks to dark and serious.

They should've made it more colorful and given some more personality to the city.

The only way I could think of having Hamato Yoshi as part of the origin is if in the sequal it is revealed that he was April's father and she was adopted... Also although he was shot by Sachs, the killing blow was giving by Saki/Shreddar...Could have it as he also had a bond with Splinter and the turtles but mostly Splinter and he remembers it but just never had it mentioned in the first movie. Stupid, I know but only way I can think of having that traditional rivalry set for this universe....

I think the best bet is to go further with IDW's reincarnation story.

Why could Splinter learn ninjutsu from just reading a book? - Hamato Yoshi was a ninjutsu master

They didn't have much development behind Oroku Saki (who is never called Saki in the film either), so they have a blank book to fill that in with whatever backstory they want.

They could go all out with the feudal Japan Yoshi/Saki with Yoshi reincarnated and Saki in stasis thanks to Utrom technology or go mystical with Kitsune.

Have to admit, part of me would like to see Alopex along with Bebop, Rocksteady, and Karai. The other part of me is terrified of the idea of that.

Well, lets see?

They did away with the Splinter/Shredder connection/backstory which made the showdown between Splinter/Shredder silly and generally the Turtles gripe with the Foot unwarranted.

The whole big plan about the Poison gas and MUTAGEN being used as a cure and the fact that the extracted mutagen was destroyed but the turtles immediately had some on hand to save splinter who already had mutagen in his blood......Shouldn't he have just healed himself?

It was obvious that the film was chopped and spliced, the Eric Sacks character had no point, he should have at least been named Baxter Stockman. I suppose they did not do that in order to set things up so he could take over as a new shredder in the sequel..........

Total miss-use under appreciation of Whoopi Goldberg and Will Arnett

Where did the Shell raiser come from? Is it really wise for the turtles to be riding around in a gaudy, obvious recognizable van in NYC....What if they get pulled over?

When was Aprils dad shot? Did I miss that? I thought he burned up? But Sacks claimed he killed him.

I could go on much longer but it kind of makes me mad if I dwell on it. Happy thoughts!

That in combination with the fact that after they did their research and took the shortcuts what they came up with was soooo bad that they had to leave it on the cutting room floor is really reason enough for them to hang their heads in shame. I predict Liebesman will drop out of the sequel if he is on already. The problem was none of these guys seem to be to have been REAL FANS.

Why was Raph as weak as **** when fighting against the Shredder at the lab? That was a little disappointing.

Let's see, where do I start:

-Erich Sacks getting more screen time than Shredder
-Karai not playing any large role in the film
-Foot Clan not being ninjas
-Megan Fox's "acting"
-6-foot bulletproof TMNT. Splinter's design wasn't hat great either
-No Hamato Yoshi
-The villains' plan in the film is basically a ripoff of The Lizard's in "The Amazing Spider-Man"
-Rushed plot
-April taking out Shredder
-Shaky cam
-No real character development for the Turtles
-For a movie called "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles", April sure does get a lot more screentime than the title characters do.

Stop quoting that stupid wiki, it doesn't say terrapins are turtles. All it said were europeans doesnt recognize difference of turtles vs terrapins.

There IS A BIG DIFFERENCE!

Turtles can live in the sea indefinitely coming up to shore only to lay eggs.

Tortoises live on land indefinitely.

Terrapins live in fresh water but during the day, THEY NEED TO BASK UNDER THE SUN! They cant live in either one environment alone which is why i said they're hybrids. You'd know if you have RES'.

Oh! That makes a bit more sense, I guess. I figured they must be at least turquoise due to the lighting.

Not sure it really makes any more sense, but in a movie like this... what should one expect?

"The word chelonian is popular among veterinarians, scientists, and conservationists working with these animals as a catch-all name for any member of the superorder Chelonia, which includes all turtles living and extinct, as well as their immediate ancestors.[citation needed] Chelonia is based on the Greek word kelone,[7] for armour or interlocking shields.[8] "Turtle" may either refer to the order as a whole, or to particular turtles which make up a form taxon that is not monophyletic.

The meaning of the word turtle differs from region to region. In North America, all chelonians are commonly called turtles, including terrapins and tortoises.[9][10] In Great Britain, the word turtle is used for sea-dwelling species, but not for tortoises.

The term tortoise usually refers to any land-dwelling, non-swimming chelonian.[10] Most land-dwelling chelonians are in the Testudinidae family, only one of the 14 extant turtle families.[11]

Terrapin is used to describe several species of small, edible, hard-shell turtles, typically those found in brackish waters, and is an Algonquian word for turtle.[9]

Some languages do not have this problem, as all of these are referred to by the same name. For example, in Spanish, the word tortuga is used for turtles, tortoises, and terrapins. A sea-dwelling turtle is tortuga marina, a freshwater species tortuga de rio, and a tortoise tortuga terrestre."

It's just used to describe fresh water turtles as a whole.
At the end of the day all terrapin means, is turtles.

Oh for crying out loud, most of the posts in this thread is fighting over what consists of a turtle. Really?

My biggest gripe is the shaky cam. I might have been more excited for the movie if I could actually see what was going on, but when the camera is shaking, zooming in and out so quick, close up zooms and quick edits, it ruins the action. I really had a hard time seeing what was going on. And the sad thing is, they say shaky cam is used to cover up sloppy stunt work.

I also noticed, that the Turtles, as big as they are, really don't win their fights. Are they saving a more epic showdown for the sequels?

Shaky cam. Good lord I couldn't even see the first few minutes of the movie.

Plotholes

Constant close-ups of Megan Fox's sexy parted lip face. Also after all that happened she never had a scratch or hair out of place.

It was long but the movie went by so quickly.. it felt like chunks of the movie were missing.

It's been explained to you that your idea is wrong. Terrapins are not a taxonomic unit. Not all fresh water turtles are even labeled as terrapins, and there are turtles that are land dwelling like tortoises. And there are fresh water turtles that don't bask on land or rarely goes on land, so again. Your idea is completely wrong.

Terrapin only describe a small group of turtles that live in fresh water or brackish water, mainly within the Emydidae family and the Geoemydidae family.

What are you even arguing about?
You're sure ninja turtles are Red Earred Sliders.

and you quoted urself from wiki that Red Earred Sliders are in fact, called Red Earred Terrapins.

So that makes you the one who is thinking the turtles should be called "Teenage Mutant Ninja Terrapins". Not me.

I doubted the turtles were RES.

Candy Kappa
08-12-2014, 02:07 AM
Clearly you don't read my comments properly thinking that. And the only time I "quoted" Wikipedia was checking the spelling of the family names.

You are the one claiming the movie did wrong in having the Turtles being Red-eared Sliders, cause you seems to be under the impression that turtles and terrapins are different things.

And, are you confusing forum members? I never once wrote that RES are called Terrapins in the UK, nor posting any direct wiki quotes.

And I never wrote I thought the TMNT should be called "Teenage Mutant Ninja Terrapins", now you're just putting words in my mouth.

the PD Tutles are RES as that is what they was depicted as, and of story. Still turtles, as terrapin is just a term for a small group of fresh/brackish water turtles.

Let's just all agree that RES is a Terrapin ok? There's no denying that.

To me, the word "turtle" is very specific, meaning from the sea.... but it appears now that "turtle" is a colloquial and general term for all things chelonian. Hence, why you call everything turtles and say all terrapins are turtles but not all turtles are terrapins.

If you wanna go by that logic, then ok, you win.

I was the one to quote Wikipedia, for clarity, and I had hoped, simplicity.
Peter Laird has stated, as has Kevin Eastman, that they were initially RES.

In the 1990 movie, four mature looking RES are clearly visible in one shot, pre mutation.

You're correct of course, that a box turtle is not a RES, and Shredder said what he said.

I'm not sure why you're angry, or even what your original point was intended to be, but I thought I should clear up my part in the confusion.

*Spoilers* Probably seen as knit picky but these are just a few off the top of my head didn't care much for the film I tried to enjoy it but for the few things that they did alright there were just to many things that were not done very well.

The turtles can tie up an army of gun wielding foot soldiers with out being seen but they cant navigate a sewer tunnel with out getting stuck and then fart jokes....
The turtles are over 6 feet tall, they have facial features are to human lips nostrils and they are to muscular large and for the most part ugly.
They are bullet proof at least their shells I didn't notice if any bounced off their skin must have been luck I suppose.
They didn't really use any ninja moves that I can recall just over powering guys.
The only thing that really had any effect on them were the stun gun or for some reason they were not as fast as Shredder I guess it is being so big and shredders suit must give him super strength as he can jump massive heights and distances.
Shredders armour and the fact that he can shoot knives out that can knock over massive steel structures.
The turtles are strong enough to hold up said steel structures and it was the same thing from Amazing Spiderman as I recall a tower and a gas being released also Batman Begins gas was going to be released to the hero(s) have to save the day. Both movies seemed to rip on the villians ideas from Batman Begins.
Raph Jumped through the side of the van instead of using the door I thought the turtles would have regard for others property.
Raph had a cracked or possibly fractured shell yet he was still able to be thrown into a Hummer hitting his shell this makes me think they edited the scenes out of order.
It took to long to get the Turtles on screen I was liking the fact that they waited to build suspense but it was around 15 minutes in before I believe we saw them.
Raph couldn't break the glass of the cells they were in but a little adrenalyn and they can bust out of their restrains and jump through like regular glass.
Don's glasses and whatever technology he has and stuff all over him was way to much we know hes supposed to be the nerd or a geek they way over did it.
Giant mountain they were coming down had a sewer that was apparently 2.5 miles away from down town NYC where the battle with the shredder had to take place... correct me if I am wrong but isn't Manhattan an island and I don't see any massive mountains or cliffs that close to NYC it just didn't seem logical unless I missed something.
It didn't seem right that Splinter could fight the Shredder and seem as though he wasn't trying or to taunting him.
Splinter was able to learn ninjitsu out of a book in the sewer and then teach the turtles. I like the original origin that makes it seem even more odd with the fight against shredder.
It seemed odd and very coincidental that April knew the turtles and saved them etc but I guess I didn't mind that so much as its a nod to IDW I'd still prefer the original origin.

There were likely lots more there were a lot of cringe worthy moments I'll say I didn't hate Megan fox I didn't like that she was a reporter. There have been 2 incarnations of the TMNT since the original show and wasn't really needed but it was alright and her getting fired seemed to be a throw back to the original movie along with the pizza on splinters head. I didn't mind Will Arnett but he could have used better material I think hes good on Arrested Development. With that said they really didn't need Vernon in the movie either but I didn't hate it.

I didn't mind some of Mikeys bantering with April etc some of it was annoying but I was indifferent to some of it. I liked Raphs speech near the end didn't like when Mikey blew up the car I know its supposed to be funny just didn't like it.

I'll just add that the amount of money they put into this movie and the production value is huge for a TMNT movie this movie could have been so good had they done it better. Heck the advertising budget is probably almost as big as the 2007 TMNT films budget well maybe not that big as it was around 24 million if I recall there is a massive difference in production value is where I am getting at.

I also got the vibe that it was a big studio production but I think I felt they were making decisions and creating the film without actually being fans of the material they were working just doing things not particularly for any real reason. Its kind of like how they remade A nightmare on elm street although I didn't dislike that film as much I enjoyed it somewhat for what it was even though it wasn't nearly as good as the original and it lacked Robert Englund etc.

I may be in a minority but I'd like to see something of a hybrid of a TMNT movie more based on the comics in either a similar style to Sin City or 300. Issues 1-3 for the first film possibly then they could do the Space/Fugitoid story for a third Return to NY.

Good insight from the film makers on how they pulled ideas/content from all incarnations and worked closely with Eastman throughout to get his blessing on all of it.

Yeah, freaking scientist Sachs cant even get them straight, he called them box turtles when they were shown to be RES.

Anyway... back on topic.

Splinter was an Otaku. He just picked up a ninja book, which means he first had to figure out how to read, then taught them to be ninjas. The biggest problem is that he like Japanese stuff SOOOO much that he now goes around all decked out in J-stuff. The implications are funny.

How did Splinter know the whole plan Shredder and Sachs have? I can give the flick the original plan, Shred and Sachs somehow evil-movie-villain explained everything in front of him... but after all these years how did the rat know that the turtle blood could be used to create more mutagen?

Don had that spring loaded staff since he was kid... WTH!!!! He didnt even invent the thing. He has some holographic stuff that could hack into satellites?!?!?!? It was basically cartoon logic but at least in the cartoon they bother to take the time and explain it.

The Project Almanac poster. That was the worst product placement in the movie. PA is another MB produced movie.

When the Turtles broke out of containment Don didnt have any equipment on and right after he broke out, literally the next shot, he had all his gear back on.

Mike also suffered from this during the mountain scene. When he used his skateboard to jump on the truck his skateboard was on his back when he landed but in the next shot it wasnt then in the next shot it was back.

I did enjoy the film, and I would watch it again. Similar to Maleficent, there were some really awesome moments, great action, and very enjoyable characters, but it didn't quite get to the heart of any serious character development/bonds. Maybe just me, but I can't get enough brotherly love/rivalry/teamwork/struggling with finding place as an outcast, each in their own way/ etc etc. And I never get to have what I want. /sadfiddlemusic At least I got a little, and I enjoyed that little.

What bugged me was the needlessly complex villain plot. I do get why they opted for the safety of action/comedy, and it was doing great as a fun, silly, exciting, wild ride. And something really awesome started to happen when the lair was ambushed. Something with feelings. Then with the capture, again, something brewing that was good.

And then it ran out of time for that, and opted to introduce a big, city-connected plot that the movie didn't have time to develop and which took away from some key character development. Other points I can pick and choose to be fussy about, but overall this was the only thing that bugged me. Be brave, pick a simple villain motivation for a short movie about loved, nostalgic characters, and work it. Overall, there were some great things in the movie, and I think I will watch it again to see if my opinion softens or hardens.

I had a hard time getting used to Tony Shalhoub as the voice of Splinter. Johnny Knoxville does not have the right voice for Leonardo. I found Michaelangelo funny at some points but overall his humor was too immature and a little annoying. Donatello was made way too nerdy. I mean, did they really have to give him those horrible goggles. There were not enough dramatic scenes in the movie to really make it memorable even though I thought it was a decent move. Shredder was made a little too powerful. Shredder should not have been able to kick Splinter's ass as badly as he did. The idea that Splinter just happened to master ninjutsu by practicing moves from a book on ninjutsu he found in the sewars is a bunch of b.s.

I've seen it 3 times. So many things bothered me, but upon shutting down my brain for an hour and forty minutes I was able to enjoy it. Here's what I didn't like :

- The Turtles' accessories were a bit much. Leo's samurai-inspired gear is cool. Raph's barbarian-esque gear is cool, minus the glasses on his head. Mikey's skater/surfer/hip hop inspired gear was ok, but a little over the top with the sunglasses and necklaces. Two turtles, Raph and Mikey, had sunglasses. They live in a sewer and only come out at night. Why sunglasses? Don's tech gear was cool, but also over the top. If he just had the arm gauntlet that served as some sort of computer device and maybe some goggles or headphones, that would be cool. The backpack was too much.
- The casting of Megan Fox, Will Arnett and Whoopi Goldberg.
- The number of unimportant or unnecessary human characters (i.e. Karai, Sacks, Vernon, etc.)
- The lack of a connection between Shredder and Splinter.
- The origin story.
- Shredder shows up to the sewer and Splinter, who learned Ninjutsu from a book, holds his own against a larger, stronger, technologically enhanced enemy. Later in the movie, the Turtles get pummeled by Shredder. I understand Splinter is the wise, experienced master - but how? The Turtles have actually gone out and fought. How is Splinter so good? Because reasons?
- Megan Fox
- As many of you have already said, Karai didn't need to be in this. She was just another henchman, but with more speaking parts. Why was she so old?
- The plan that Sacks and Shredder had was ridiculous (and a Spider-Man rip off). They're trying to poison the city, so that they can save the city. This plan would require the utmost secrecy and tactical execution, BUT the place where they're releasing the gas is located on top of Sacks Tower?! How is that secret?? If they're plan was successful then anyone with eyes could see that THEY released the toxin... Not only that, but when April's dad burns the lab Sacks and Shredder nix the toxin/mutagen plan. Then for 15yrs they don't come up with anything else?? Jeez.
- Mikey's jokes about April went from funny to creepy 'cos they overdid them. One or two, spaced out pretty good would've worked, but they went with too many, too fast.
- They also overdid the whole "Turtles that walk, talk and know Ninja stuff? That's crazy!" routine. We get it. The idea of teenaged mutant ninja turtles is wild. We understand it's farfetched, but we believe in it. That's what makes it work. The dialogue contains so many of those kind of jokes or quips it makes it seem like the writers don't believe in it. If the people making it don't believe in it then why would I?
- Johnny Knoxville was a bad choice for Leonardo. I think they were trying to score another low-brow voice acting hit like they did in the 90s with Corey Feldman. It didn't work.
- Raph's speech at the end (somehow) connected with me, but not because of what happened in this film. I KNEW the characters from previous experience and knowledge, so that speech resonated with me. It didn't resonate 'cos of anything from this film. Raph never did any of that stuff in this film! They moved too fast for us to have any personal connection to any of the Turtles outside of their easily applied labels : Leo/Leader, Don/Nerd, Raph/Rebel and Mikey/Party guy. They spent too much time with the characters we didn't care about (the idiot humans) and then tried to force us to care about the characters we WANTED to care about, the Turtles.
- The Foot as military-esque terrorists was lame.
- The Turtles being so large kind of took the whole NINJA aspect away from them. Their new look and musculature didn't bother me, but their height and weight didn't make for good stealth.
- Raph jumping through the side of the van. Why couldn't he kick the doors open and jump out? Michael Bay had to destroy the van too?
- The part when Raph couldn't break the cages, but then his brothers got juiced up on adrenaline and did gymnastics through it. That was dumb.
- Like many of you said, Shredder had numerous opportunities to finish the Turtles and just let them be.
- The Crush product placement was a bit much. The Victoria Secret was pretty obvious too, but at least it was funny.

...

I would have a shorter list if I was in the "things I liked" thread. Sorry if everyone listed these already. That's not even my entire list. I'm just tired of writing/seeing/reading bad things about the movie. Unfortunately, I don't think there will ever be much good to read about it.

Seriously f**k everyone who was involved with this movie. They had the ability to bring us a great TMNT film, but it was wasted. 125 million dollars down the f**kin toilet, only to come out with one half assed movie with Megan fox as the main character.

It's hard for me not to get angry when so much potential was wasted. Why in the hell would Nick choose platinum dunes? Did they want the film to be s**t just like all the lowbrow shows on their channel? Seriously f**k them all.

Other thing that bugs me.

Why does Batman sneak around? He is mortal and can be killed. Why does Superman not bother with it? Because well He is Superman.

I don't really like the ideal of the turtles being well Superman, bullet proof, I would not be shock if the 2nd film had them use X-ray vision and could fly.

Now that the Turtles are bullet proof, they really have no need to do all that sneaking around now right?

It'd honestly be easier to list the things I liked.

but 1. the Dilapidation of the characters and story line itself

2. Oroku Saki needed to be in it but the obvious insertion of him was some bull crap. Should have just gone with the bad sachs shredder.

3. the turtle designs which is really essentially number 1. Along with Whoopi's terrible acting (and every other actor). Let Bern be Bern. Don't change characters like that, like they did with pretty much everyone just to get name value in there.

4. You could feel the pure Atrophy of the franchise while watching this film. Many true fans were dying inside. It's really a mockery of everything that has been done. You don't change what has been successful and what got you to this point just for the sake of change. Minor tweaks from generation to generation are welcome and often needed but it was just too much.

5. which all of these could be number one but the Turtle film being centered around April. Cause M bay don't know how to make a film not centered around a human. Might as well have called it April and friends.

6. The crude humor. That's just not them. There was a few times I chuckled most of it was acceptable but a lot I felt was very out of line "I can feel my shell tightening" being the first one that comes to mind.

Just so so much. Pretty much the only things I liked :
Mikey's voice. Hated all the others but no matter what I felt his really stuck. I can't ever remember a bad mickey voice besides the end of "wormquake" that nick episode. Well who are we kidding his voice there is bad too, but I digress..

The fight scenes were good, But the superhuman strength was way over done. Like the first fight where he throws the giant crate the foot are trying to rob. Don flipping the truck with his staff, Raph saying he can't do anything cause his shell is cracked and then continuing to do crazy things ect.

And Last but not least that view of Fox's behind while going down the mountain.

Most things seem to be covered here but I'll say my piece anyway:

What was the point of April being a reporter? She gets fired early on and just happens to be connected to the turtles and Sacks? It seems like she was originally intended to be a Sacks Industries employee (which makes sense, following the father's foot steps and what not) but they changed it to a reporter to make fans of the first cartoon and movie to feel comfortable.

Splinter learning from a book is an OK explaination but it renders the rivalry with the Foot meaningless without Hamato Yoshi. It's also bizarre for Splinter and Shredder to both be ninjas when one is so by coincidence.

The plot is the same as ASM (missing scientist father, major villain is his colleague, corperate conspiracy with mutation experiments and a mutagen being spread over NYC on a tower) except... less sensical and with focus on the wrong characters.

And of course the turtles themselves... Look, they were annoying in the old movies as well but here they're straight up enraging because there's not a single decent character moment that is not played for laughs. The 1990 movie may have potrayed them as pun/reference/catchphrase spewers but at least it had a couple of scenes that made you sympathise with them, this has nothing. Mikey is the worst though, he's just a creepy pervert when he's not the dumbass from the cartoons, which i have never understood, the laidback turtle has to be an idiot?

And they're ugly, like really ugly.

I am the odd-ball here I guess, because for the most part I liked the movie. But the one thing that REALLY bugs me is that the plot seems full of holes.. Like they cut just to many parts from the film. Which also made it seem pretty rushed.

He can install the solar panels outside. :) Maybe on a rooftop even.

Edit: oh wait, did Liebsman meant that square pattern on his loin cloth?

... Well that, I have no idea. :tlol:

Eh, well, in the Nick toon, there is a tree growing in the lair, via near a sun roof, so perhaps tis the same here, we just didn't get to see the lair much before it got destroyed.

Everything but the turtles.

I guess it took a few days for this to sink in, huh. Yeah, they dropped the ball on this.

It's like, the Turtles are great, but, they are not going to be in it as much, so we have to suffer through April and her job schtick.

We know that character development will be not be there much, but that's OK, it's got the Ninja Turtles, so I can always count on for at least a great kickass fighting scene, maybe 2 or 3. They were there, but, heh, I couldn't see them because the dumbass director couldn't keep the the ****ing camera still.

I really wish they would dump Liebersman and hire Matthew Vaughn, since he's a UK director that can actually film really great fight scenes.

Another major thing. They didn't really appear to be doing anything for purpose. You don't get the feeling they are fighting for the greater good, plus the whole rivalry story was taken out. There's moments like when they are holding the tower from falling where you can tell they are trying to save the people, and they help a lot of people but there just doesn't seem to be much purpose behind it. Just Idle gestures. That's the feel I got from it.

- Megan Fox being so enjoyable, didn't expect it.
- Will Arnette being useless, creepy, and not funny.
- Not enough martial arts ... when it was there it was bad ass.
- Mikey ended up being my favorite turtle, and not typical Raph.
- Raph's sunglasses not falling off the top of his du-rag.
