Not sure if this has been discuss b4.
But what are your thoughts on the 87 turtles in this movie?
I find they are portrait a bit too silly. I know the 87 series is a lot lighter then the 03 series
But they made them look like 4 idiots that can't take care of them self's.

I really have some mixed feelings about this movie. I find it cool that there are three generations of Turtles (and three gens of Shredder), but I personally feel that the people involved in producing the movie should have rewatched a few more 80's TMNT episodes. - Then again, this is just my opinion.- On the plus side, they seemed to have portrayed the comic versions of the Turtles dead on. (Or at least as far as 4Kids allowed them to be.)

I hated the re-design of the technodrome, how krang and shredder took a back seat without putting up some kind of fight, seeing the utrom shredder as much as I did. I can tolerate it well up until the third act with all of that crap going down and when the movie goes cgi animated on us, I use to have a copy of it but then I deleted it. I hated how the ot side of it was treated.

Drat! Youtube no longer has Turtles Forever available.

Yeah, was not happy with how the Classic turtles were handled. They seem to give them the heavily comical attitudes since... TMNT Movie 3 began? Or were there other TV specials of the live-action turtles around before the 3rd movie began? Anyway, I would have tolerated the Classics a little more if those deleted scenes of Turtles Forever were used in the movie, as I think there were a few good moments of the Classic turtles. For this one, they went.... teletubby on us.

I don't get it.

The stupid fighting style of the Fred Wolf Turtles was recreated just fine, and even though I hated that, it's fair of the movie to give it it's dues. The personalities of the Fred Wolf turtles, though, are far closer to the original movie trilogy turtles, with the added annoyance of the 2003 show's mishandling of humor and some degree of incompetence.

Yet looking back on it, I think the worst part of the film's approach is how damned inconsistent it is, regarding that universe's validity. One moment the Technodrome is displaying a galactic Google search and warp beam capacity to get Ch'rel back on Earth, another Karai is deriding Dimension X's technology as primitive. One moment, Fred Wolf Don is written to sound extra-moronic regarding science (while to my memory, his actual dialogue was more logical than 2003 Don's), the next moment his ridiculous warp stick made of a common flashlight actually works, later on the lasers he made from parts in Baxter Stockman's lab don't work against mutants, then in the action climax his exploding shurikens work against Ch'rel. What were they thinking; did Two-Face write this?

I'm not ready to sign on the line that TF was made as a deliberate insult, but it's an extremely stupid movie regardless. If I had to guess, they were operating on garden-variety bad fanfiction logic; assuming that the mere presence of a crossover is an excuse to be too lazy to make it work well. That is insulting to me as a thinking TMNT fan; whether they meant it or not.

Yeah, I kinda share the sentiment. Wouldn't really care if it was only early on when they first met, just in jest of the fact that the original series four are indeed a large part goofball by nature... However they exaggerated their goofiness more-so, seeming to try to make them appear more incompetent, and made the 2003 guys appear to behave as if they were just barely tolerating a bunch of children out of having no other choice and carried on with that for just about the entire thing... Just comes across as possibly a bit passive aggressive on the writers part against the original series Turtles.

It's a shame really, since I haven't yet watched the 2003 series, despite having already watched Turtles Forever, it's kind of set me up with a slightly negative expectation of their personalities. Was prob going to hunt down the first episodes this evening, since I finished rewatching the original last night, so I shall see I guess...

(I have to admit though, if Turtles Forever was true to the personalities of 2003, after the attitude toward the 1987 guys I almost wish a 2D version of 2014 could show up and give them what for.)

The movie is somewhat indicative of the quality of the last three seasons, but earlier episodes of the 2003 show were better. I will warn, though, that 2003 Mikey is frequently like the Fred Wolf Turtles were depicted in that movie; stupid, lazy, too distanced from reality to take many dire things seriously, and very annoying. There are exceptions, but that's the most common depiction.

They were way too silly.

They should have known to wear disguises when they were getting pizza.

And when they cried like babies in 2k3 Raph's arms, that was way out of line.

Heh, it has been discussed before but... there are definitely some uh, strong opinions on the movie.

FWIW, I like it and don't have any issues with the way the 87 Turtles were treated.

Laird was involved with the movie and he has a strong hate for the original show so I think he made them look stupid on purpose.

I can understand him not liking it but unless he has a huge ego he has to accept that it is the reason his creation is hugely popular. Maybe that's why he hates it, because he'll never know if he could have made it big without the OT. My guess is no.

I thought the second season of the 2012 show treated the OT very ell in the episode where they show them. In TF it felt really forced how they were trying to prove that the 2003 show was better.
