I like season 1 and it's pretty nostalgic as I use the watch VHS tapes my cousin had when he was younger but it's not super good past season 1 . Granted I think it's enjoyable but its not the holy grail of turtles . I appreciate that it launched turtles in to popularity but not much else

I like the classic series but love is strong, but there are aspects about it that I do love. Maybe it's a mix for me. I am enjoying the Nick series though because at times it gives off a similar feel as the OT while still being its own thing.

The only one? Prob not.

I like it for what it is, being a kid's series that's pretty much on par with how other cartoons of it's day were done. There probably were not too many cartoons back then that got the amount of effort put into them as many do nowadays, so the newer ones, esp 2012, certainly have an advantage; so I don't really tend to compare them.

I don't know. I didn't make an effort to remember them. That was because they didn't win me over, it doesn't make sense for me to remember things that I have no emotional attachment to. When I like something I say to myself I got to remember this or write down or type what it is.

Yeah I like all that stuff. Splinter being a human being first was a huge improvement by way of making 100x more sense. They just botched the execution since they showed him touching the Turtles before he turned into a rat. That always bothered me. But the idea was sound.

I love the show for what it was, I just wish the newer show and the new movie would stop catering so heavily to the OT nostalgia schtick. There are themes, personalities and scenarios I have liked from each incarnation. Even Next Mutation, (which I have never watched) but was the birth of Raphael's motorcycle.) So yeah, love it, but the fact that creators from the OT are outright trying to claim they are the ones giving the Turtles their personalities and such tends to grate my nerves at times.

I don't watch it that much now, but I used to watch it so much when I was a kid. It will always be special to me because of that.

Things I love about it now;
1. Hamato Yoshi's origin. I agree with the other poster, it makes more sense ... if that's possible, lols
2. Raphael being a wise guy and stand up comedian. He's the rebel and bad attitude most of the time, so this is a refreshing change.
3. Vernon / Irma / Burne and April's work dynamic. It's nice to see April's colleagues and they are all interesting and add to the stories.

Things I don't like about it now;
1. Lazy inking. Getting the bandanna colours wrong was awful.
2. Donatello's changing voice. Especially, the really high pitched one.
3. All looking the same. For the toy line. Green colouring identical.
4. No real ninja moves. Just affecting the environment with their weapons. (I know it was because it was a childrens tv show, but look at the 2003 cartoon .... such a different style of fighting)
5. No real need for secrecy. Even though the city hates them. Flying above the city in a blimp with a turtles logo is asking for trouble.
6. The fact that they edited so much back then. I wish I could have seen it uncut (nunchuks and the word ninja) so I could have appreciated those aspects earlier on.

TMNT is probably my favorite thing ever, but the original cartoon is definitely not my cup of tea. I've only seen Season 1, but it didn't feel unique enough to bear the title of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Maybe that's because so many other cartoons copied, but so many other cartoons have done a much better job of portraying those themes in a way that feels original. I was a newborn when this show got canceled, so I don't really know what kind of impact it had. But what I've seen of it is pretty mediocre.

I wouldn't say I love it either. I do like the series universe and some of its characters. My favorite version of Raphael is in it, per example. Also love some of the humor and episodes of the first few seasons and the Red Sky ones.

I'm not a big fan of some episodes in the middle seasons with barely any action and silly plots. Seasons 4 and 5 were the worst offenders for this. The lack of weapon usage by the turtles bothered me as well. I also didn't like how, after some point, the turtles could walk in broad daylight without anyone batting an eye at them. I prefer them as outcasts.

But it's still one of my favorite animation series of all time after all these years.

That's the way I feel about the show. I love the interactions between Shredder, Krang, Bebop and Rocksteady. Then there's the awful human characters like Buffy Shellhammer, Vernon, the hillbilly family, the mad scientists etc who I really hate. It really annoys me when some OT fans say that anything after the 80s show ruined the TMNT. This is the show I grew up with and it does bring back childhood memories but it's not as great as 2k3 or 2k12.

Hate Vernon?? I love that guy, I just love how he is all big and bad in front of Thompson, and when real action comes, he runs and hides like a coward and April ends up with the story. It was a funny gag. Vernon is highly underrated imo. Stuff when I protect my rear, I mean I protect the rear

If you think that's edgy then watch some anime. Even ones aimed at kids such as DBZ and Sailor Moon had explicit violence and deaths. I could never see an American cartoon for kids getting away with what those shows do.

I would have liked a few of the episodes from Seasons 5 and 6 to be moved to Season 7. Those 2 seasons bored me with some of their episodic episodes from watching them from start to end, though I forget which ones to pick exactly.

Classics isn't really my favorite, but I tolerate it for its campy and silly concept. To me, it's a good way to be introduced to TMNT until you welcome yourself to 2k3, the comics, the movies (1st one, mostly) and Nicks (which I really must start watching). Not so sure about Next Mutation and those live action episodes like Coming out of their Shells or whatever that's really for the children audience.

Out of the Channel 6 crew, other than April O'Neil for obvious reasons, I like Irma who's pretty fun to see. Vernon and Burne? Eh.

A good deal of the episodes were campy and even a few of them were sorta on the lame side, but overall 80's TMNT wasn't that bad for me. I (to this day) look forward to Bebop & Rocksteady's dumb moments, and those Krang & Shredder bickering moments. I even liked it when the "Red Sky Episodes" turned to a serious side of the show.

Do I totally love the show? I border on liking it on good terms.

Whilst I appreciate its place in TMNT history and what it did for the franchise, no, I'm not a fan. The theme tune's awesome, the voice cast pretty good and the first 5-episode miniseries is about as watchable as any cartoon from the mid-80s, but otherwise I find it hard to make it through an episode.

I think that's the most positive I've ever been towards the OT...

The show had about 30-40 episodes too many. I could do without the European vacation episodes(even though a couple of them were good) and the ones with crappy animation and lack of action in seasons 4 and 5.

Also, I wish characters like Zach, the Neutrinos, Howie and some of the mad scientists had never existed. And there was no need for the punk frogs to return in later episodes.

Let me rephrase that, I enjoy the show more now for what it actually is, whereas as a kid I didn't care what was going on in the episode, it was TMNT so I just liked it.

Now I know which episodes are actually really good, and which are the dud episodes. I wager that I enjoy roughly 75% of the OT's episodes. The show could be cut down to about 150 episodes total and you'll still have more than half of it being good.

I liked season 1 and 2, and some parts of season 3. After that... I just couldn't go on. The animation got worse and worse as it went on. The plots were very repetitive. The "action scenes" were a joke. The replacements in voice actors got really annoying. It just got old after a while. After I finished season 3, I was just done with it. It should've just ended there. I can only imagine that it was the Spongebob of its time, being really great for a while, then getting unbearable for the rest of its lengthy run. (Note: I have heard season 7 had some good episodes, but I've never seen it)

They were producing many episodes at the same time, obviously some episodes are going to look worse. I don't see how you think the animation got worse since the standard animation studio look was basically the same for the entire run.

This is rather odd, as there are plenty of great episodes in Seasons 4-6, even if there are also some dud episodes. Season 7+ is a return to action and closer to Season 1 than the others.

As for the repetitiveness, well, that's the kind of a show it was. You just tuned in to see the Turtles stop Shredder/Krang every week or whatever random villain they threw in. The show came at a time before cartoons had story arcs or continuing plots.

I understand the jokes more nowadays than I did back when I was a kid, but I don't enjoy the show more now as an adult. As a kid, I honestly thought it was the coolest thing ever and actually found the Turtles to be real badasses who'd eventually kill Shredder in the last episode or something. I was so naïve  I also liked how the show never seemed to end and how I could wait for the upcoming episode without worrying that the previous one was the last of the series. I only thought that after Turtle Trek and Return of the Technodrome.

I could definitely tell the good episodes from the bad ones. Although some episodes seemed better back then than they are now when I re-watch them as an adult.

I agree with this. As much as I loved it as a kid, I still get a kick out of it now, almost 20 years later, and I catch Easter Eggs, in-jokes, and animation gaffes (intentional ones or not) and some of the more "mature" gags and jokes now that I missed or didn't quite "get" back then. Even some of the obscure references and tropes are more enjoyable now! Sure the humor was often campy and tongue-in-cheek goofy, but that was part of the fun of it! As for continuity, this was back in the days when cartoon continuity was still in it's infancy, and it took shows like Batman: TAS and others of its kind to really make cartoons consistent and taken more seriously. TMNT was already winding down by the time that trend started, so it unfortunately missed out on a lot of the plot consistency and arcs that such shows made popular.

Season four is actually the nadir of the series. It does pick up again after that. It had a different head-writer for a while, hence the prioritization of comedy scripts over action ones. It ends, eventually. The animation becomes more consistent too.

.

Before the DVDs came out, most of us had forgotten or never seen the episodes of the OT. Most of us rediscovered the show through the DVDs, and whatever nostalgia just goes to the core concepts (the cast, the style of the show), not the writing/plots of each individual episodes.

Some of my favorite episodes are right smack in the middle of Seasons 4-6 that people tend to overlook. For every crap episode we got there was a stellar episode.

Although I do tend to agree Seasons 1-3 and then 7-10 are far more consistent than the middle seasons.

It's only Seasons 5 and 6 that really made me go from marathoning each episode I can watch, to watching 1 episode per day and see if the next episode will allow me to marathon again, which happened... about 4 times until I found the series slowing down for me.

Seasons 1-4, Europe Saga, and 7-10 were pretty stellar for me. From the beginning to a new location for a while until reaching the end, I still had a lot of fun watching the Classics.

It's not that I hated Season 4 that much. I only got a few episodes into it, before seeing that it wasn't an improvement from season 3 (which as I said, had only some episodes I liked among a ton that I didn't). The only episode I saw after the beginning of season 4 was the first episode of season 8, which was so boring that I couldn't even get through it. Maybe I just got sick of watching the show way too much. Maybe I'll get the box-set and come back to it.

I re-watched it earlier this year. It was quite hard to get through, but I think that's because it's so long and because I enjoy serialised storytelling much more than procedural/episodic. I was inconsistent with it though - I'd marathon 20 episodes in one go and then not watch another for six days, and things like that.

The show is still enjoyable and the music especially is fantastic, but it just feels a little dated. It still holds up better than most eighties/nineties cartoons, though.

I think a part of what has soured it for me is that I've read Mirage now and much prefer that universe. 1987 just doesn't seem as special as it did when I was a kid - some of the nostalgia is still there, but it just doesn't seem as magical. Partly for the 'Mirage adaptations' aspect my re-watch of 4kids was more enjoyable, but that's also because I greatly prefer that show in most ways (despite growing up with the FW cartoon).

Well the the show is sufffering from rather obvious production errors and rather lackluster scripts. I didn't grow up with it so it's pretty hard for me to ignore problems like that and as for what bothers me beyond that, I don't like the comedy. The comedy is either too predictable (expecially when it's about pizza), too dry, too cliché or just alien to me either because I'm not American or the reference is dated.

They are funny, but completely overdone. In small doses, any of them are hilarious. 30 of them in a row is enough to make you want to headbutt the TV.

Pretty much this. I can watch two or three in a row, but after that I get sick of it all.

I used to marathon the show every Summer until 2008 or so. Haven't done it in a long time, but once in a while I'll watch an episode or two on youtube. Since it's episodic you can just watch any episode you want without worrying about forgetting about any relevant past events.

Opinions on shows change as you get older, trust me. Shows I thought were "beneath me" when I was a teen I went back and enjoyed watching in my 20's.

When you're a teen you crave violence and sex, but as an adult you "simmer down" and enjoy the stuff you liked as kids.

The show really hasn't aged well for me. Especially after having read the original mirage stuff and seeing all the adaptations to come since. I guess you could say I have a love/hate relationship with it. I love it for all the enjoyment it brought me as a kid and spawning my life long love of the title characters as well superhero/ crime fighter fiction in general. I hate it for being probably something like 85% percent of the reason some people think the tmnt should never be taken seriously as a concept.

I've given it several chances, but I could never really get into it. It's not dark enough for me, I guess; entertaining, yes, but it's just not my style. Plus I wasn't born until the mid-90's, so I was never exposed to it until after watching other versions of the Turtles. Without nostalgic values, it's a lot harder to appreciate (in my opinion, of course). But it's responsible for skyrocketing their popularity, so that's definitely something.

You seem pretty persistent with this but I'm not sure what you are hoping to achieve. When someone says they don't like the taste of your favorite food do you argue with them that they're wrong?

Maybe our standards for silly episodic and often times ridiculous cartoons are just a little bit higher than yours. There is just a certain point where the show drags and becomes a chore to pay attention to because I'm not 5 years old anymore and just happy to see the Turtles on screen doing stuff that my friends and I then imitate while running around in the backyard the rest of the day.

It's great that you have a tolerance for that stuff and get enjoyment out of it. I like the show but it has not aged well. Most of it is nostalgia and remembering the carefree feeling of being a kid in the 80s. Back when your main concern was a new episode and whatnot and not jobs and bills.

Can't stand the mad scientist episodes. The episodes with zack and company. Most of red sky except for when shredder and krang returned.

It's also weird seeing the turtles have more action in the movies and videogames and not the show itself. The shredder was definitely not a joke or pushover in the games and movies... Then you watch the cartoon and um ok... It was curious but kids would run around pretending to be martial artists when there was barely any action in the show they were imitating.

I love the show for what it was at the time, but thanks to the more gritty 1990 movie, I think I started to move on from the cartoon in more favor of the tempermental Raph and a Casey Jones that isn't a psycho. Then when I caught 2k3 toon, despite the heavy Leo favortism, I find myself watching that show way more than the 80's toon. The thing I really did like about the 80's toon though, which truly hasn't been to par in later incarnations, is that all of the Turtles shared glory time in the fights, no one was more superior than the other. Since then, it's been mostly either Leonardo or Raphael as the sole champs and Mikey and Donnie are left as the comedian sidekicks.

It's 100% related to Cubed's nostalgia for the show. Other shows from that era that he didn't grow up with or watch with the same devotion as TMNT, he dismisses as "not having aged well" or "only entertaining if you grew up with it," the same way more moderate fans of TMNT describe the old TMNT cartoon.

Seems like TMNT in general, and this show specifically, was the most important thing to happen in his entire life, so what else would anyone expect? On the other hand, most people clearly recognize the show as being slapdash and overly juvenile, and can rate it accordingly.

For me it's kind of like Teen Titans. I like the property it's based on, and the show is okay for what it is, but on the whole I don't love it because on the whole I really don't like goofy sh*t for little kids, even if I'm fully aware that's who it's made for. If it wasn't based on a comic book, it would have zero appeal for me. Other people who like those ways of doing shows like it just fine, and that's good for them; I don't make it a point to watch it (although I will get the DVDs because I'm one of those idiot completionists who collects comic book shows and movies).

Likewise, if the OT TMNT wasn't connected to something I came to enjoy more in its later interpretations, I'd ignore it, same as C.O.P.S. and Go-Bots and a hundred other "bad" shows I watched religiously when I was 6 but never had an awesome live-action movie to help build a bridge between "childish obsession" and "genuine appreciation" as I started growing up.

Sane people know it's a kids show and rate it accordingly: Not the 'Cubed way, of, "Just make yourself mentally 6 years old again and it's great". No, more like, "Yeah, it's great for an hour or two as a laugh, but man, this really wasn't done very well" sort of way.

Anyways, just him doing his gimmick again. ((Shrug)) I wish he'd grown up obsessed with, like, Care Bears or something. I would love to see him try and sell that as an underrated piece of pop culture with far more depth and nuance than anyone remembers, if only they'd "put it in perspective". That'd be more entertaining.

It doesn't have to do with nostalgia since aside from the first 5 episodes, I had completely forgotten what the rest of the show was like until I got the DVDs.

You're forgetting that before the DVDs came out I hadn't seen most of these episodes since the 90's when I was a kid. I was essentially watching all the episodes for, "the first time" through the DVDs even though I probably saw them all before.

I only had the first 5 episodes on VHS as a kid, everything else I was experiencing for the first time when it came out on DVD.

I dunno then. It's entirely average amongst its contemporary shows. Other than the fact that it spawned a franchise that somehow never died off, there's nothing super-special about that specific show. The phenomenon surrounding it was noteworthy, and who can say what makes those things happen? Who can really say why TMNT's show spawned a global force and Battletoads is a footnote? What I do know for certain, is that as far as quality goes, neither show had any great advantage.

I do find it greatly surprising how anyone can come into watching it now and not find huge faults in it. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate the show, but it's by no means fantastic. There's nothing super-great about it. If the toy fad hadn't caught on, it wouldn't have lasted half as long. And no matter how you insist otherwise, a solid 2/3s of those episodes are dreadful by any normal standard. Just clearly, the laziest, most transparent "Push it out, we have a deadline" level of cartoon junk. There are some terrific episodes of that series, but you have to be living in a dream world not to notice that for every one of those, there are five that range from "Huh, well that was ok" to "Wow, this is... garbage."

I mean, I guess I can see how someone can enjoy it as a whole based on how good the good eps are versus how bad the bad ones are - and the best ones are better than the bad ones are bad - because that's what most of us do. But you're kind of insisting the whole show was great, and it wasn't. Like, a ton of shows that maybe didn't get TMNT's press or modern-day affection were nonetheless far more consistent.

I'm glad it was a thing. I'm glad it existed. I'm glad I have all the episodes on DVD. I'm super-glad I only have to watch a lot of them ever again if I feel like it, not because it's all Channel 11 decided to put on at 3:30 and ruin my entire afternoon. A kid simply doesn't run home from school in a panic desperately hoping to catch "Mr. Ogg Goes To Town". Unforgivable. Some things are unforgivable.

The reason people enjoy the show is because of the strength of the personalities of the main cast (Turtles/Splinter/April and Shredder/Krang/Bebop/Rocksteady), their chemistry together and their banter.

Likewise I do enjoy the wacky sci-fi plots in each episodes. While this wouldn't work for any other show, it works perfectly for this one.

The flaws in the show have to do with some of the really worst episodes mostly written by random writers, the animation errors, or some of the continuity glitches but that's not a big deal.

Leo656

I still think a person is entirely within their rights to stop watching after "Season One". You can't argue they're missing a ton. What to one person is "Establishing personalities", another person could easily refute as "Telling the same jokes, over... and over... and over..." It's how you look at it. I find certain things more than a little redundant after a while.

I actually do like goofy shows with silly plots. I love the Adam West Batman series, it's just that I find the 80s TMNT drags in and can get really boring where I can barely keep my eyes open. I guess the good thing about some of the episodes is that they work great for treating insomnia.

Shredder's Mom was a fantastic episode. Not just for the hilarity of his mother interacting with him and Krang, but the actual plot of the episode with the solar flares and warming up the Earth was good too.

While I can understand not liking some of those other episodes, the show is light hearted fun. Also some of the Neutrino episodes were great, especially "Attack of the Neutrinos" the fourth episode, and, "The Dimension X story."

I will agree that some of those episodes listed above were REALLY bad, but others not so much. I'm just surprised that Green With Jealousy was included there, since that one was both hilarious for the premise and the "adult" level humor, and it was also different from most of the plots the series used. Let's face it- Rocksteady falling head-over-heels for April? And three out of four turtles all going gaga over Irma, of all people? Comedic gold, IMHO. That, and it left us with an enduring mystery- who gave Irma the puppy? I recall it appeared in one or two other episodes, I think, but we never DID find out who actually sent it.... It's one of those little things that made the show so interesting and endearing.

Incidentally, Great Boldini was a great episode. I could always picture Mikey getting into stage magic and becoming a hit! Four Musketurtles was fun, too, and I liked that Leo was so into that book! It's one of my favorite classic works.

You know me long enough to understand that broad over-generalizations are my gimmick. Don't be as ignorant as literally every single Swedish person I've ever met.

And you should know we find them extremely obnoxious by now. Your "gimmick" makes you sound like a demeaning douche every time you want to make something else sound bad; and you have the gall to call others names for calling you out on that? Get off your high horse.

I mean, you didn't even use the right word, which would be "exaggerations". But there, I can say for certain that it's not even an exaggeration; it's flat-out wrong. Five fourth-wall jokes per-episode misconstrued to 30 in a row is an exaggeration, but when there isn't even a fourth wall joke in every episode, it then such a statement is just stupid and whiny.

I like the show but it has not aged well. Most of it is nostalgia and remembering the carefree feeling of being a kid in the 80s. Back when your main concern was a new episode and whatnot and not jobs and bills.

Disagree. The show is inferior to the (better parts of the) 2003 cartoon, but it's aged much better because it's self-aware of its stupidity and it's truly a different experience than the Mirage series. The 4Kids show is just a mostly-inferior take-off on the Mirage series, and that's in its good seasons. I don't really like marathoning the 1987 show, but it still makes me laugh in smaller doses.

Can't stand the mad scientist episodes. The episodes with zack and company. Most of red sky except for when shredder and krang returned.

I agree about Zack, at least.

Here I wholeheartedly agree; except "weird" should be "enraging". That was always the single biggest thing I despised about the show. Pizza jokes got old, but I can't say they were painful. 4th-Wall humor isn't very clever, but I felt the self-awareness was necessary to elevate the show above its stupid-but-dead-serious 1980s peers. The shouting of "Cowabunga" and "Turtle Power" were goofy, but no stupider than "What the shell". The slapstick-fighting, if anything, I hated it even more as a kid than I do now, and I didn't even know about the Mirage series then; the video games, movies, and show intro were enough to spoil me and make me feel deprived. Now, I still hate it, but at least I can choose when I see the show now and what mindset I go into it. That's not trivial; it needs to be stated that I view the 1980s show simply when I want a comedy cartoon; not an action cartoon. Of course, I could just re-watch Batman: The Brave and the Bold and get both, so hmm; maybe the show isn't that worthy.

Ultimately, I think a lot of us continue to value the show for the many new ideas it brought to the table, and their longtime abandonment made us value them more. The Technodrome was cool, and it could be used just fine in a more action-oriented take. Ditto, fly-Baxter Stockman, and hence he is. The Rock Soldiers are hardly any more outrageous than aliens that appeared in the Mirage series. Even the Neutrinos could fit Mirage depending on the story, though I hated what IDW did with them. That's the place where, above all-else, I do think the 1987 show delivered, was in that, just like the Mirage and 4Kids take, but unlike The Next Mutation and, by default, the movies, it wasn't half-assing it in the mythology department.

Raphael Knock's Em Dead wasn't a bad episode either, as long as you can deal with a plot pulled out from 60's Batman's Joker and applied to TMNT.

It was a stupid premise though. Raph was never a stand up comedian. He's a sarcastic smart ass but not someone to actually be like 'stop me if you heard this one...' and start saying actual jokes.

Plus most of his jokes were dumb and didn't make sense. Sure WE know he's a turtles, but as far as the city knew, it's just some guy making weird turtle jokes. Most of them don't make sense unless you know it's a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle saying them.

Oh I'm sure there's some Care Bear forum out there somewhere, and if Bay and co ever rapes the hell out of it with a sucky movie there will be hardcore fans defending it to the high heavens too.

Sorry, but once again, that comparison is unfair. It's as unfair as comparing, say, Batman: The Animated Series to Cow and Chicken; decade means very little next to genre. I mean, it's decades since I've seen it, but so much as I recall Care Bears was nothing but a saccharine show pandered to kids. There are no "parental bonuses" whatsoever, and its moral message is so one-note you could mime it out with a baby hugging a Teddy Bear and most people would get it. Take whatever opinion you will about whether the self-aware and/or adult-oriented jokes of the Fred Wolf show hit home, but Care Bears never even tried to do that.

And Leo's statement is totally hypothetical, because I'm certain nobody "grew up" obsessed with Care Bears. They couldn't. Maybe they were at one time, but after even seven years of age (if not less) you can see the Care Bears had limited appeal, and they don't fill all your entertainment needs. TMNT was flat-out better than Care Bears; you can try to claim that's a matter of opinion, but even then it won't do you any good, as most opinions will agree with my statement, and so does history. Part of the cult the 1980s show has is probably the merchandise and the spin-offs. The action you didn't get in the show, you could at least get in the video games. The better storylines you didn't get in the show, you could at least get by acting them out with the action figures. But all of those wouldn't exist if merchandisers saw no merit in the show itself. The fact is, the Care Bears were never good enough to warrant fun video games and action figures with which you could stage martial arts battles, and Michael Bay poses no risk of making a movie adaptation that pisses off their small fanbase.

My wife was and still is a very big fan of the Care Bears. Wants any future daughter of ours to have a Care Bear nursery.

That said, Michael Bay would never do a Care Bears movie...

I for one will not stand for all of this Care Bears bashing! :P

I liked one of the movies a lot as a little kid, but it was only because they shot the beams out of their stomachs and at the time there wasn't a ton of superheroish stuff out there with laser beams flying around. So I had to take what I could get!

I'd love to know what bad episodes you're refering to. At least 75% of the show is watchable.

The show is MEANT to be silly, episodic, and often times ridiculous. If you guys stop looking at this like its supposed to be a story-heavy action show, you may enjoy it more.In YOUR opinion. You shouldn't state such things as fact. Entertainment is subjective. What one finds entertaining, another one won't.

For me, the OT is still watchable (minus some eps that I do find cringeworthy like the European Vacation eps and I felt this way as a kid) because I like that type of humor. For others, they don't or found it more enjoyable when younger.

Four Turtles and a Baby Yeah...a bit lackluster.Unidentified Flying Leonardo Didn't like it as an adult. Can't recall my feelings from when I was a kid.Mister Ogg Goes to TownSame as above.Four MusketurtlesIs this when Leo hit his head and thought he was a Muskateer and the other three had to humor him? If so, I liked this one. lolGreen with JealousyI liked this one as a kid because I always liked Irma. As an adult I find it funnier because I get the jokes. The Great BoldiniLiked it as a kid, don't care for it now.TurtlemaniacDon't remember what I thought as a kid, but didn't like it as an adult.Shredder's MomI liked it as a kid...not so much now.Raphael Knocks 'em DeadLoved this ep as a kid and still appreciate it as an adult because the jokes were intentionally bad...and I liked Barney. lolI didn't like the vacation episodes where they went to Ireland etc either. The hillbilly episode, any episodes with the mad scientists. I hate the Neutrinos as well, any episode with them bothers me.I didn't like the vacation eps either, even as a kid, but I liked the other things you mentioned.

Er, well, I guess the original poster had their question answered, then.

I like rewatching some parts of the original cartoon (and not just the first season, jeez). If it came down to just ratios, there'd be more episodes I'd never watch again because they were stupid, boring, or cringeworthy. BUT the handful of episodes I did enjoy again as an all-grown-up, I do. I define my feelings towards the OT based on the episodes I do like, while being aware of its critical faults.

I'd say 65-60% myself. 75 is WAY too generous especially since Red Sky is pretty forgettable and can just be skipped. Noone really knows or remembers Red Sky. I bet a lot of fans were like 'huh? wtf????' when the Red Sky seasons hit DVD.

Doesn't matter what you think, nor what you enjoyed. When one thinks of 80's TMNT, Red Sky doesn't really come to mind. It's this weird obscure....thing... with weird forgettable villains and horrible plot ideas.

I don't know, maybe if Playmates made some figures of them or there was a Red Sky based game for the SNES/Genesis back in the day it wouldn't have been such a forgotten part of TMNT history.

Please point specifically to any point where someone said that you shouldn't like something. People are pointing to things that they and they alone do not care for. In no way shape or form are they saying you shouldn't like what they don't like. No one cares.

I'm also still waiting on an answer to my earlier question. If someone says that they don't like your favorite food do you argue that they are wrong?

To be honest, we'll always be the minority. The 'casuals' are the vast majority, and if it wasn't for the legions of 'brain-dead casuals' we'd never have the entire OT series on DVD, a 2K3 revival and a 2012 revival.

I like some of the episodes of the OT, 'Green with Jealousy' was kind of cool

However, I don't like the OT as much as I used to. Nick Turtles kind of spoiled me, so I'd say now that Nick is my now favorite series.

The major things I didn't like about the OT:

Bebop and Rocksteady being almost too dumb to live.

The 'unstable mutation' bit in the later seasons, might have only been a few episodes but the idea creeps me out.

Mr. Ogg.

The bits where Bebop and Rocksteady having 'zoo memories.' That does not make sense, since they were mutated humans and not animals. And genetic 'memory' does not work that way, unless you are a Xenomorph. :trolleye:

There might be more, but it's late and I can't think of them. But these are my main ones and the ones that come to mind most easily.

There are plenty of great episodes in the OT, the problem is they're not all right after each other. The series was 193 episodes long, so if you were to condense it you'd get the good eps back to back.

I loved the show as a child, but I don't love it as an adult. A lot of episodes haven't aged well. I think seasons one, two, three, seven and eight were the best (I still like some episodes from other seasons, though). The cartoon was an inconscient show. There were too many episodes made and it could've been condensed into 5 seasons. It has aged better than other shows such as Sonic SatAM and Spider-Man, though.

I like its version of Raphael, Casey, Shredder, Rat King and Leatherhead. There are annoying catchphrases and too many pizza jokes. I don't like Zach or Carter. Dregg was an okay villain, but he seemed to be evil for the sake of being evil and didn't have much of a personality (I liked him better in season 10, though). I don't mind the other characters like Big Louie, Barney Stockman and Buffy Shellhammer.

I like that the show doesn't take itself too seriously. The 2003 cartoon did that too often. Krang and Shredder's banter is still funny (they really do act like a married couple). I think half of the episodes are still enjoyable to watch, but the good is far outweighed by the bad in seasons 4, 5, 6 and 9. I haven't watched most of the episodes for years, though, since only some DVDs are available in Ireland, but I thought a few episodes on the Cowabunga Classics dvd were somewhat boring to watch as an adult such as Planet of the Turtloids.

I prefer the 2003 cartoon. The OT was a product of its time, but parts of it still hold up well. I watched it every now and then from the early 1990s to late 2000s on RTE Two, so it's not down to nostalgia that I like the show. It's one of those guilty pleasure type shows like Charmed and 2 Broke Girls.

I dislike the original cartoon. I enjoy the comics and especially the new cartoon. The 90's movies have some childhood nostalgic appeal to me as well.
