Is it just me or is the elevator scene in the new tmnt movie freaking hilarious

One of my favorite parts, and one of the only bits of actual down time. I so badly want to see the full scene uncut.

I love when Mikey starts up and Leo looks at him like "Wtf..?" :lol: It's like, "This is one of the most serious moments of our lives and I am completely bewildered how anyone could be goofing off right now." He tries so hard to remain serious... and then can't help himself.

Although really guy, you know better than to do that with the blade edge...

I love the fact that they write this holey script, include all these effects, put so much attention on Megan Fox, insert Knoxville as Leo (who I think is not the one heard in the elevator?), try so hard to make everything so completely epic... and what's the part everyone unanimously loves? The short little piece that was largely improvised when the actors were just able to be silly. :D

Seriously, I could watch a movie of just these guys doing their thing at home and driving each other crazy. Like watching two hours of Big Brother, TMNT style.

Until this movie, I associated elevator scenes with closing credits from an old toon, but this was one of the best features, making you take a breather from the upcoming final battle with Shredder with some good puns.

I think it was brilliantly executed, from a film making perspective there is a such a flux of action from the mountain through the sewers a comic interlude really allows the viewer to invest more on the big battle.
I hope they keep stuff like this in for TMNT 2

I can see it that way. By the time that scene comes along the movie has made damn sure you don't feel any tension about anything in the movie. As a standalone scene I find it somewhat enjoyable kind of like Mikey singing Happy Together.

Yes, I'd once gone through various trailers that included it and screen capped images based on the button panel.

There was one or two small sections/spans if lit up buttons that were not in the trailers, but the top row of buttons are seen lit up so by all accounts I believe the original scene appears to happen from the ground floor all the way up, not just the cut portion the movie got.


For the love of Turtles people, please release that entire piece uncut. I don't care if it's on disc (preferably not just blu ray...) or just put online at some point, but this can not remain unseen.


And Leo, buddy... you will never live this down, I'm sorry. Next time remember elevators have cameras... especially if you're doing, you know, a film. :P

I absolutely loathed this movie but the elevator scene did make me laugh in the theater even though I had already seen it in clips online. I didn't think it would make me laugh after seeing it already but it did. It was one of the VERY FEW genuinely fun scenes in the movie.

As much as they got wrong and as bad as the movie was that moment captured the turtles perfectly. I also really liked that Leo joined in because, yes, we all know that Leo can be the buzzkill of the group but having him join in the fun really gives us a Leo that we don't get to see all that often and I like when you can do that with a character that is always set in their ways especially when they've been adapted several times like TMNT have. The same can be said about Donnie's badass moment. When does he ever get a truly badass moment in TMNT adaptations?

Tell you what, that is one BIG elevator, which is also very strong - their collective weight is probably what?? - and either has an unusually angled ramp floor or has the magic power to make Leo shrink.

Personally I'm going with 'it's magic.' Since it also turned off his inhibitions.

The scene itself in the elevator? Hilarious, and organic. Really show cased the 4 actors chemistry in life, and as brothers on screen. We needed more of that ... the best moments in the film IMO were the down moments between the guys showcasing their personalities.

TMNT '90 could do this more due to animatronics. Where as CGI on screen costs a boat load of cash. Bigger production budget next time, hopefully we get even more moments such as this of in character improvisation.

Well said. Sucks that there were very few actual "down moments" other than this one. Which is a huge part of why the film wasn't received very well. The only times the Turtles showed any real personality were in little fleeting moments; no solid scenes with them just going about their business. We definitely needed more of that.

I'm either a hardcore fan and love everything turtles no matter what or I don't divulge into the deep enough but I loved this movie.

CGI may be costly, but heck, if you can't jump in and do all that you need to be doing for it then stay out of the pool. :P

Maybe if it had been a bit less The April Movie, co-staring the Turtles, they'd have had a few more dollars to put toward the Turtles and an extra shot of down time rather than the actress who isn't really the star of this.

Not quite, I felt the scene came at an inappropriate time. Right before the climax? Really?

Maybe if it was ten minutes earlier it would have worked, but seconds before the final battle? Why, that kills the one moment in the movie that has to be serious...

Although in a way it does to a point help show the characters for who they are; first and foremost Mikey. Because it's Mikey being Mikey and doing his thing to lighten the mood and distract the group from the seriousness and stress of whats to come. And of course serious Leo looking at Mikey a bit bewildered, which never fails to crack me up.

Nah thats close minded or judgemental. That song fits the turtles perfectly ... just as it did in the trailers. Its lyrics and energy would've gone perfectly with a highly kinetic group battle scene with the turtles keep kicking the foot clans ass.

I would've liked to see a big fight, too. But considering how the movie already faced a budget cut, I have to assume they couldn't spend any more than they did. And if a big Foot fight would have to come out of the snow chase budget, I wouldn't even want it.

Yeah, for me, that scene and the reactions to it were when I started to seriously wonder if I'd outgrown the franchise, or at least the fanbase. Like, probably the same exact day, I'd have been in the thread about people being too old for TMNT, and I'm like, "No, of course not," but then... seeing the epic response to something like that, really flicked my "THIS is what people want nowadays?" trigger. And for the very first time ever, the thought of "I'm getting too old for this sh*t" tiptoed into my brain.

For one thing... it's only about as funny as you want it to be. It really reeks more of the people making the movie goofing around than anything else. It's this movie's version of the "Chicks Dig The Car" scene from "Batman Forever". Just entirely about the studio saying, "How can we really take the piss out of this thing, just so NOBODY thinks we're taking this even a little bit seriously?" It's "TV Studio Audience Funny"; you laugh because there may as well be a giant neon sign overhead that says "THIS IS THE PART WHERE YOU LAUGH (and pretend you haven't seen this scene 87 times a day for the last month thanks to the commercials)". If you feel like playing along, you do. But it isn't, as such, "funny".

I also agree with some folks that it's a really crummy way to disrupt the tension going into the final battle. Like a scene of Batman getting caught in his zipper when he stopped to take a quick leak before fighting the Joker. The movie already has lots of pacing issues; tacking more on for half a laugh wasn't worth it. Maybe it would have played better earlier in the movie, but I still don't think it was necessary at all.

If nothing else, ignoring all that, it's still "dead air". You only have so many minutes to play with, the last thing you need is, essentially, a screen-saver taking up valuable real estate. They could have literally put that time and money towards anything else and it would have been better spent.

I don't know. I just know that whenever people gush about it, I can't help but hear Kurt sing "I wish I was like you/Easily amused..." over and over in my head. Sorry. Just how I feel about it.

That's literally what it is. One of the animators saw the (turtle) cast doing it off camera & asked (the director, I think?) if it could be worked into the film. There's a whole behind the scenes feature about it, though I don't have a link at this time.

I agree. It either needed far more humor knitted in more consistently or way less and toned into a more serious movie. That was arguably my biggest problem with the movie, aside from the lack of turtle screen time overall.


I still think I need to see it again. I had such bitter disdain for the thing when I first saw it with my hater-goggles on that I couldn't really formulate anything like an objective view.

Wouldn't call it closed-minded or judgmental...just my opinion, is all. I may have been a little blunt about it, though. I just personally don't think dubstep suits the Turtles, and I didn't think so in the trailer, either. (Like I said, just my opinion.) But hey, who knows; in the context of an actual full-blown fight scene, I might think differently.

Basically all true. I think the reason so many people loved this part was because it was the only instance in the entire film where all four of them straight-up goofed around, even if it was poorly timed or shamelessly immature.

But it's definitely "only about as funny as you want it to be." It did entertain me, and I did laugh, but it felt almost forced.

I know it's probably a little strange, but the elevator scene is the only part of this film that has me very interested and curious, especially with Leo headbanging! I was curious of the actual context because it seemed funny and random. Still not interested in the film as a whole, though.

I think all the interactions between the turtles were great. Not just this one scene. But I do think it's very funny. Yeah, the movie does move fast. No one is really scene just kicking back and killing time. But I think they have a great cast, and the director gets them. We'll see what happens, next time, assuming they don't have the same budget and rewrite issues.

Yea, just keep "Fight" and "Reptile" and you're good. Turtles afterall are reptiles. So it fits. It's even a pretty good dubstep beat. Never understood the hate it got in the trailer.

Maybe they didn't have the budget to also include it into the film, didn't want to have to pay for it's usage. It definitely fits the TMNT though. Really well, actually. Better than a lot of the rather quiet, lackluster score we saw in the film. As I said, would've given the material on screen even more energy.

Yea, totally agreed.

That snow chase was the best, and most original action scene I've seen in quite sometime. At first glance it isn't even something classic ninja turtles could do, which is why the fanboys didn't like it in the trailers. But given their massive size, and genetic abilities in this version it made sense. Was a very fun sequence, and unique way to integrate the turtles personalities into it as well.

I just wanted more martial arts scenes to showcase along with their new superhero physiques and abilities. It puts their fighting skills on steroids. We didn't get a truly good Foot beat down in this one. We saw glimpses of cool stuff they could do given their size:

Leo throwing dude through train.
Raph viciously kicking a Foot through a subway wall.
Mikey's athletic flip scissor kick in the lair.
Leo's spinning kick of multiple Foot soldiers.

Hopefully in the sequel we get more. With the camera pulled back as well.
