View Full Version : Too little Shredder in this series?

Anyone feel this way? Most of the episodes either focus on the Kraang or the "mutant of the week" and you rarely see Shredder at all. And when he does appear its usually just for the finale or some Karai episode.

I really wish they'd explore more of Saki/Yoshi's backstory before he abducted Karai, and more of the human Foot Clan if they still exist in Japan.

For me, it's cool, because when he does show up, it's pretty epic and awesome. Don't want too much of a good thing.

I want more Shredder too. Why can't we have one Shredder episode while the turtles are still on the farm where we see what he is doing in New York.

"One: Shredder needs to be louder, angrier, and have access to a time machine. Two: whenever Shredder's not onscreen, all the other characters should be asking 'Where's Shredder?'"

I think they've hit a pretty good balance with the Shredder so far. I'd love to see him get some more development, but if you use him too often it'd be overkill. He's not their only enemy, and having a wider rogues gallery is pretty important for the show's long-term strength.

Let him have a big impact when he's present. It's easy to lose that if he's in every other episode.

This is the biggest fault of season 3 so far in my opinion. There desperately needs to be a 'Meanwhile, back in New York...' episode, but it doesn't look like it's going to happen. If it does it will be episode 7 at the soonest, which is still a tragedy.

Ciro did say they were wrapping up the Kraang plot and going more into the Shredder so we will see more Shredder soon enough.

Still I agree we should have episodes or moments that look back at New York. This was done in the second season of Gargoyles after Goliath, Bronx, and Elisa went to Avalon and they spent a number of episodes traveling to different places around the world and two and a half episodes were focused on the clan back home about how they dealing with the disappearance of their friends.

Isn't there something about how since this show is CG, they can only use a certain amount of scenes per episode because of the whole animation thing? You know, like it'll be too expensive? Maybe that's why they haven't done any quick flashes back to how things are going on back in NY, or either they want to keep the viewers in suspense over it.

New York's materials are already rendered and stuff though.

If I were to guess, I think they want to make North Hampton give them their money's worth. They had to create so many new models for this totally new environment so no doubt they don't want an inch of it to go to waste.

I'd like more backstory on Shredder's henchmen than Shredder himself to be honest.

I'd say we get enough Shredder to keep him ominous and interesting. I'd just say no more Kraang and less disturbing monsters of the week.

I'm okay with Shredder not appearing in just about every episode. It's what makes his episodes all the more great.

No, we have just enough on-screen with Shredder. Cause when he acts and interacts with the Turtles, it's serious business, even more serious then the Kraang. The Kraang is terrible, evil and creepy (especially after season 2 finale) But they are also funny when doing their thing.

Shredder is cold and dangerous on every aspect. And keeping a minimal screen time on him makes it more apparent.

Yeah, kind of reminds me of the Ring Wraiths from LOTR or Lord Voldemort from Harry Potter. Less is more threatening in the end. This is what lots of movies/tv shows do wrong, they bring out the big baddie in the beginning, bringing everything with it, and then, they are backed up into a corner storytelling wise. Let Shredder really build himself up over time, and let the series finale be his undoing.

Shredder is over used in most other incarnations, it is nice to have a break. Though his henchmen could use more backstory/development. Also Baxter and the Rat King need a lot more screen time then Shredder.

As much as it annoys me that the show treats the Kraang as more of the 'main villains' than Shredder, I think Shredder is just fine in small doses. That way anytime he does show up, you know s***'s about to go down and fast as Mirage and 2k3 did in a similar fashion.

Pretty much these for me.

Ciro doesn't know what he's saying or he's just careful to avoid spoilers.

They can't 'swap out' the kraang plot since they rule New York. Only way I can see this happening is making another hour special as they return to New York and defeat the kraang for good and THEN shift focus.

There also can't be a 'meanwhile in new York' episode cause all of the main characters are at the farm. There was no one left behind to meanwhile to. I would love an ep of slash and leatherhead teaming up for an episode as they fight off more kraang but I doubt these writers would be bold enough to do an ep without the turtles in it.

Well, they could get creative. Leo could be sitting down and try to meditate, and he either connects with Splinter, or even Karai, and then we could get images of what is going on through Leo. Maybe one by one, each Turtle sees him meditating, and joins him, so they too get glimpses of what is going on, that way when they do go back, they are fully aware.

I too though, think Krang plot is far from gone. They will probably eventually bring in the Triceratons and maybe even the Neutrinos, and they will have connections with the Krang. Not to mention, Bishop.

I'm hoping we see them delve more into Shredder's history with Splinter down the road. Maybe when the TMNT meet Renet she'll take them back to a time those two were close friends.

The Turtles teaming up with Splinter as a kid would make a great episode.

Yeah The Avalon tour lasted 21 episodes. first 5 episode was the world tour, the 6th was back in New York with the episode Kingdom then 8 more episodes back on the tour, the 9th back in New York with Pendragon. Then 2 episodes later The episode The Green was half in New York, half in South America. Then the world tour was finished 6 episodes later.

I expect we will see whats happening in New York soon, maybe when the turtles contact Splinter (Ciro mentioned it in the IGN interview he said that happens 5 or 6 episodes later but don't know it's that's from Buried Secrets or from A Foot Too Big)

I'm not worried about Shredder showing up too much. When he does, you know something's about to go down anyway, so it doesn't bother me that they're taking a break from him. As others have said, sometimes less is more.

Like others have said, it's better that he doesn't appear often, because it makes him more threatening when he does.
