On anpther board, and some they get on the subjecy or TMNT and the PR Space cross over and the hateing venus. Somehow from there it mutates into what is a true TMNT fan. A lot say a real TMNT doesn't sccnowledge any version out side the First TMNT. Some say real fans are Only from teh first Toon. Other believe that real fans accept all teh version.

So the question is what do you think constitutes a real TMNT fan?

(you should probly know I'm paraphrasing the converstion to exclude about 3 pages of cursing and attacks on othe posters)

And please I know this can be a touchy subject but respect each other.

and I subscribe to teh beliefe that real fans just enjoy the TMNT what ever their origins and actions

There are only 2 types of true fans, Some people only accept Mirage, not old or new cartoon, or anything else. Much like the LOTR fans that only accept the books. Haven't seen many of those, but I'm sure they are there...

2nd type is the one that accept pretty much all TMNT things, of course they can prefer some universe more than other.

Fans that only accept New cartoon or Old cartoon aren't really fans of the TMNT phenomenom, but just one part of it. So they wouldn't be true fans.

Since most people here aren't much over 20, they fall into the 2nd class. They started with the old cartoon, and got introduced to Original TMNT years later.

I wouldn't really say there is a true fan. Everyone who likes anything about them is a fan. It doesn't matter how much they know, or how much they don't know. They're still fans. And some people may just prefer the cartoons over the comics. That doesn't make them any less of a fan.

i would have to agree with that, but I think the only way you can not be a fan is when you attack other fans that like the same thing.........like well we all know who im talking about :roll:

Mm.. yes, I agree with Shellfox's thinking. That a true fan is one who likes the TMNT no matter what the latest show or comic book is. That's me!

Spending your last 5 bucks to get the first issue of the new dreamwave series. Or wearing your TMNT costume to the hospital to pick up your new baby brother (I did that when I was five).

Yeah I definitely agree with Stone III, I like everything and anything that has to do with the Turtles.

I'm tired of this generalization that EVERYBODY started with the old cartoon and went into the comics from there!
I'm 19 years old and I STARTED with the Mirage comics, dammit! THEN got into the old cartoon when my friends told me about it!

Anyway, I think there's different levels of fandom. Stone Ill's right, but so is Karpo.

I like to consider myself a connesuer (I know that's spelled wrong). I'm only really into stuff about them anymore that I can relate to as an 18 year old in some way. I can't do that with the old toon.

Yeah, same with me. I watched the whole show a year back, and frankly was bored most of the time. Well it's understandable, It's children's show. But some people can be into them at the age of 40... To each his own.

Well thats how I see it, no one is more right than someone else. And I didn't say all, I said most, and that seems to be the case. There aren't many people I know that started with comics... Wasn't the change from Mirage to cartoon difficult?
Well, I was rather young. TMNT was TMNT. I just liked seeing them on TV.

But anyway the change in color-scheme was a tad confusing and so was the pizza obsession. I was a tad dissappointed with the mood change. But, once I got into it, I loved it.

But, I always wanted to to see more mirage-based animation, like the new cartoon. And, I always prefered the Mirage version. But, the old cartoon had it's good points too. (Like the Neutrinos!)

It's ALL good! (Except Next Mutation and Old-toon seasons 9+10)

New cartoon is good, much more mature than the old one, but I hope that someday we would see a movie and/or animation that is even closer to Mirage. Digital Rim project was supposed to be that, and rated PG13... Too bad it never happened...
Yeah, I'm hoping the TV movie will be even closer to Mirage! I'd also love to see the TMNT wear all red masks, at least during the final battle!

Wouldn't that be an AWESOME scene just before a "Return to NY" adaptation: The Turtles complete their training and as they prepare for battle they replace their multi-colored masks with blood-red ones to look more fierce! Then go off to battle!

Yeah it would probably look good, but I don't think it seems very likely... They could have done it with new show, but they didn't.

Well, if the new Movie includes "Return to NY", and that's suppossed to be a rebirth for the Turtles, finally recovered from their defeat by Shredder, than it could symbolize that rebirth!

Also, if "City at War" is also included it would fit the storyline ALOT better.

Accept is the key word here. That doesn't nessesarily have to mean that they LIKE all ther versions, just accept them.

True fans don't spread the hate. They only spread the love. That's why they are true fans. You can have whatever opionions you want, but if you spread the hate, then you're not a true fan, in my eyes.

And for God sakes people, The Next Mutation happened all the way back in 1997. Get over it. Find something else to complain about and/or move on with your life.

I'm one of those fans who got hooked on TMNT via the 80s cartoon. Then the movie came out, and that's what got me REALLY addicited. I couldn't get enough of the turtles after the first movie and it's still that way some thirteen years later. I'm going to be 20 in a few weeks, (*feels old*) I can't believe so much of my life has had the TMNTs invovled in some way.

I haven't even seen a Mirage comic (or any TMNT comic for that matter), but it doesn't mean I'm less of a fan than any of the ones who do read them. Just means my town is so crappy it doesn't have one friggin' place to buy comics and Mirage seem really hard/expensive to come by online. So for now I'm a Mirageless TMNT fan, but I'm still a fan regardless. :)

Basically I agree with Stone III.

If you want a definition of a true fan, it would be the kind of person who sticks with the Ninja Turtles, even if he/she doesn't like all their incarnations.

I like the old cartoon and that's pretty much the extent of my involvement in their universe. Does that diminish my standing as a true fan?

I don't care for the movies that much; the comics don't do anything for me; and the new cartoon isn't exactly setting Saturday morning ratings on fire. A true fan is someone who can still like something, even if all facets of it aren't exactly appealing.

When I think of the Ninja Turtles, they will always be (in my mind) associated with the old cartoon. I've been watching the show longer than some members of this board have been living. And because I only choose to involve myself with one branch of the Ninja Turtles tree, does that make me less of a true fan?

There is no one universal definition for a true fan, everyone has their own opinions. What most agree on is that a true fan accepts every TMNT uiverse there is[Next Mutation is of course always arguable :wink: ].

(Giving the TMNT transformation powers was one of the WORST ideas ever! And, I'm not just talking about the TMNT! I mean in the history of bad ideas in general the "Transforming into monsters" TMNT rank just below the washable paper-plate, and the impact-activated parachute!!!)

I could at least watch a whole ep. of Next Mutation.

A true fan is someone who enjoys whatever form of TMNT they prefer. I prefer the old cartoon because I enjoy the humor along with the Technodrome. The technodrome is so much cooler than Shredder's building in the new toon. Did Shredder even have his own building in Mirage or was that an addition to the new cartoon?

Being a "True Fan" has nothing to do with how much TMNT stuff you own.

Being a "True Fan" has nothing to do with how much money you spend on TMNT stuff.

What kind of "True Fan" you are has nothing to do with what TMNT Universe you discovered first.

A "True Fan" is everyone who has had an extra amount of joy brought into their lives because of the TMNT.

There is no type of fan better than another. There is no actual person whose fandom is greater than any other's.

Yes! That's exactly what I was thinking, when I was saying it doesn't matter what the popularity on the TMNT is. I am a fan because I have my own personal reasons and joy as to why I even do.

Don't need to have the entire TMNT bible memorized, or have met all the famous TMNT people, or even just make a competition out of it to be the most well known fan with the most SWAG... :wink:

Just as love as you have the love for the guys in green. :D

Yeah, being a true fan made me wish I was a Ninja Turtle.

I dedicated myself to being the 5th Turtle for as long as any form of the Turtles exist. 8)

Whether they're on TV, comics, videogames, concerts, even toys, Benvenuto will be right there with them, equally accepted. In fact, There would be originally 5 Turtles instead of 4.

Talk about impact on your life... :lol:

As i see it, there is no true fan, you either like TMNT or you do not.
What you consider TMNT is up to you, but that does not make another fan any less of a fan.
Personally i like all TMNT rencarnations, some more than others, next mutation being the one i dislike the most, but that's only because i considered the different tmnt universes interesting enough, if you do not like one version of another you are still a fan, i just think you're missing out.
And if you think you're a "truer" fan because of it, i feel sorry for you.
