In the 1950's there was a point where Stan Lee wanted to quit working for Marvel. Serial Comic books were in a slump during that time. His wife then answered that he should write one comic book the way he wants to see it done before coming to the decision of quitting.

So I am posing that same challenge to people here. Everyone of us has problems with the nick show as do I. However I have also people complaining about how if story continues as is they would quit watching this incarnation all together.

What I am proposing that people should write out their own version of a episode that they didn't like. How would you yourself like to see that episode done if you were the writer.

Since I'm the one posing the challenge this is how I would have depicted "Within the Woods"
-------------------------------------------
Episode opens at night as the Turtles and company arrive at the O'Neil house. Donnie informs April they needed to get Leo hydrated right away. Raph and Donnie carry Leo to the upstairs bath while Casey says he would get a fire started.

April narrates into her journal that everyone is taking all that happened as expected. All of them miss Splinter and wish greatly for him to be alive, but even Mikey's unshakable optimism may not be enough to keep them from fearing the worst. They are adjusting to life on the farm, some more easily then others.

Raph is keeping frequent vigil over Leo.

Mikey spends his time trying to help around the house such as cooking or chores. When he doesn't have anything to do he explores the farm. Though she suspects Mikey also spends the time exploring as a time to grieve for all they have lost.

Donnie is also making a valiant effort to to be strong for everyone because he is the current leader. However he still does blame himself for what happened to Leo and wants to make things right again.

Casey has been keeping a close eye on the news to see if there is anything about his family or what the state of the city is like. However other then New York under quarantine there isn't much.

One morning Raph is looking for Mikey he enters the barn and finds Donnie. Raph asks him if he's seen Mikey anywhere. Thats when he notices that Donnie has been futzing with mutagen. He at first asks Donnie what he's trying to do. However when he learns Donnie is intending to make a mutagenic medicine for Leo, Raph gets upset and says that is too dangerous. How do they know that the stuff wouldn't poison Leo or worse? Donnie try's to reassure Raph that yes it's experimental, but he was able to study the mutagen and it's affects while he was trying to develop retromutagen. Even sites the time he created a cure for Mikey's shell acne. Raph however still insists its dangerous. Grabbing the jar of failed retromutagen that Donnie had been experimenting with Raph hurls it into the forest and unintentionally creates the Creap.

Mikey is in the woods sitting by himself by a Creek. He hears something behind him and starts to run for it when it looks like he is shot. He looks down at the place he was hit and sees a wound. He then starts feel weird and notices his body is starting to turn to wood. He tries to run for it but realizes he can't because his feet have started taking root in the ground. So all he can do is cry for help as the Creap approaches him.

That evening everyone is talking in the sitting room. Raph, Donnie, and April are wondering where Mikey is. Casey broaches the question of "What did Donnie intend to do if Leo never woke up?" Before Donnie can answer the lights suddenly go out. April wonders if they are having a black out. Donnie however says it's more likely a blown fuse and he can fix that easy. Casey grabs a flash light and says he's going to keep a look out for Mikey perhaps he got lost. Donnie checks the fuse box and finds it was more like the breaker was turned off which seamed rather odd to him.

That's when he hears Casey scream, he rushes to the yard while Raph an and April rush outside to see Casey getting dragged into the woods. Donnie organizes the group into a rescue party. While they go into the woods Raph comments to Donnie that the person he's trying to rescue is "April's Boyfriend". Donnie however says that this has nothing to do with his feelings for April.

They suddenly find Mikey who is now a Mikey shaped tree.

They find Casey getting infected by the Creap into something that is slowly starting to turn him into a Casey Shaped Tree. The group fights but it's not long before Raph and April are also infected with the same thing as Casey.

Donnie starts to freak out because he's the only one left who isn't infected and thinks he's failed as a leader. Raph pulls him back to himself and reminds him things aren't over just yet. Donnie succeeds in defeating the Creap with the help of his infected family. Donnie harvests DNA from the Creap and is able to create a cure for his brothers, April, and Casey. While the Creap was rendered withered and lifeless.

Back at the house he explains that half of the DNA of most living creatures is identical to plants. The Creap had likely infected them with host seeds that would devour the human and Turtle DNA rendering the plant DNA dominant while all the living essence was transferred to it's root source the Creap. So he had used the Creaps own DNA against him to reverse the process.

While everyone is talking amongst themselves, Donnie leaves the room and leans against the wall with a stressed look on his face for a moment before he goes back to his makeshift lab in the barn.

That's a huge challenge there Victory but I'll give it a shot.

Since I had some problems with The Lonely Mutation of Baxter Stockman , I would first change the conceit of Shredder idiot ball moment of leaving Baxter to mutant alone in a laboratory unguarded.

What would happen instead is that when Shredder would try to activate the device to trigger the collar but much to Shredder's annoyance "Stupid blasted remote!" (and very much a comedic moment for us:lol:) the device would not respond and thus make him assume that it's broken. Shredder leaves Baxter alone in a huff with Rahzar by his side and when door is slammed, we cut back to a shot of Baxter grin and hear his triumphant laugh and commenting how he was carefully able to disable the collar under his nose. When he stops laughing a fly lands on Baxter's nose and the collar suddenly explodes which leads to his mutation.

The other thing I would change is to make retro mutagen something that could only work on Kirby bat because the Mutagen Man's mutation is not standard to other mutations.

With the Croaking I'd keep things as presented in the story, but I'd expand it into a two parter.

The episode opens with Mikey watching Crognard and getting so into play acting the role he destroys the sitting room. The others come in and demand to know what he was doing.

Mikey says he was just watching an episode of Crognard, when Casey points out he was also trashing the place. Mikey at first insists he wasn't but then he looks around the realizes that yes he had been trashing the house.

Leo points out this is the third time that he's destroyed the house. Mikey points out that he wasn't meaning to he was just having fun. Raph then angerly tells Mikey he should grow up and quit being a screw up. Mikey gets upset and runs out of the door into the woods.

Both Donnie, April, and Leo are upset at Raph and tell him that he was out of line for saying something like that. But Casey takes Raph's side and says this is the third time Mikey had messed up the house that week. April wonders if someone should go after him. But Raph just says Mikey would come Back on his own.

In woods Mikey stops and feels that if his bros think he's a screw up, he'd show them what life would be like without him. When he is attacked by Napoleon.

He over powers the mutant frog who is impressed by Mikey's skills and offers to lead him to his tribes home. When they arrive though, he and Mikey are brought before Attila, Genghis, and Rasputin who are less then happy that Napoleon has brought a stranger into their dwelling.

Napoleon explains that Mikey is a great warrior and he has seen his skills with his own eyes. Genghis however feels that doesn't say much, particularly since he wouldn't know a great warrior from a water bug.

Rasputin insists the Turtle is not someone they could trust and gives some very prejudicialviews and points out that Mikey even wears a mask to hide his identity. Mikey states he wears a mask because he's a ninja.

Atillia is still not impressed and asks Mikey where he was from. Mikey says he ran away from the farm house at the edge of the woods where he had been living with his brothers and two humans.

Taking this to mean the humans are holding Michelangelo's brothers captive. Attila tells Michelangelo that he is welcome to stay. As soon as Michelangelo and Napoleon leave. Raspuin expresses that the Turtle should not be trusted and there is something he is hiding. Genghis also agrees that they know nothing about the Turtle boy and he could be trouble. Attila however says the Turtle did escape his human captors and perhaps his brothers would thank them by joining their cause.

Nepoleon gives Mikey a tour of the frogs tree, during the tour Mikey notices the lights of the farm house in the distance.

back at the farm house April is growing concerned about how late it's gotten. Raph isn't worried about it until Donnie points out a police report saying lizard like creatures on two legs were attacking camp sites.

The group plan to split up and look for Mikey when they are attacked by Genghis and his frogs.

He damands the two humans release the three turtles they are holding captive. Leo and Donnie tell the frog that they aren't prisoners and the humans are friends of theirs. The Frogs attack taking April, Casey, and the Turtles prisoner.

Mikey talks with Nepoleon and tells him about his brothers, Nepoleon tells Mikey he's lucky to have awesome brothers like that. Mikey hears a commotion.

The Turtles are brought before Attila and accused of being human sympathizers. Mikey runs up and demands to know whats going on. Rasputin tells Attila that the Turtle had lied about his aligance with the humans.

Attila demands to know where Mikey stood. With them or with the humans?
Mikey says he never said anything about not being friends humans. Mikey is locked up as well. Attila explains that he wants to over throw the humans and use the mutagen that rasputin found to create more soldiers to join their army. And he wants the show the humans and their allies what is in store for them. Napoleon chooses to save Mikey and his family even if it means he is branded a trator. Rasputin stops him but Napoleon uses a move Mikey had shown him sending the Mad Frog careening into his lab and causes a fire. Napoleon frees Mikey and his family. The Turtles and company try to put out the flames, but the fire spreads too rapidly, so they resort in helping to making sure the frogs have all evacuated.

Attila is surprised by all this to which April says not all humans are bad.

I know. The episode itself was good, but what irked me is that when Genghis marked the Turtles as Trators he only has the humans captured but he doesn't take the Turtles prisoner as human sympathizers.

Thats like saying "Oh yeah, these guys are trators. But maybe if I ignore them they won't come after me to save their friends."

And the reason Mikey ran away was because Raph had called him a screw up, not because he had to clean a mess he himself made. And I thought it would be good to show the Turtles helping and co trying to put out the fire and then making sure everyone else evacuates the tree.

This is just a generally idea for season 2, but I think that there should have been Donnie making lab entries on each mutant during mutant of the week episode because studying on how each mutation works would a way for him to understand how the mutagen works to create retro-mutagen. When the shredder hears about the retro-mutagen after The Lonely Mutation of Baxter Stockmen then sometime after Karai gets mutated then during last two episodes of the season final would be somewhat base on your Hostage fanfic. That way there would be a underling storyline to all of the mutant of week episodes because most of them serve to understand how the mutagen works.

The Light Outline For Season 2

The guys attempt to stop the kraang but end up spilling the mutagen supply and accidentally got Kirby mutated in the process.

During the Invasion of the Squirrelanoids, when the turtles have the mutant squirrel, Leo notice that Donnie is collecting samples. Donnie explains that he going to cataloging data on every mutant they find to learn the science behind mutations. He gather that maybe the mutations are often unique from each other and he may have to create specific retro-mutagen for individual mutants.

During Mutagen Man episode, there a scene of Donnie making a comparison to the mutant squirrel data with Timothy

Later down the road when we find out that April is kraang mutant but somehow looks human, Donnie talks to April about the his data on his on mutants and goes to note how different she is to others mutants. April is determine to help anyway she can.

During Baxter Mutant episode, Donnie explains that mutagen is something that absorbs dna and he guessing if he adds her dna in a pure mutagen then possibly it will counter effects of the pervious mutation.

Sometime after the karai mutation episode the events for Hostage two parted begins and the finale ends like it did with your story.

What do you think?

I actually rewrote the season 2 opener as a more Donnie focused episode with him spilling the mutagen due to trying to upgrade his weapon, ignoring Splinters advice about what happened in Metalhead.
