I don't get "The Missing Map" episode

Why is Shredder afraid of being exiled by the Foot Clan in Japan? Shouldn't they know he is a slime ball? He is a wanted terrorist/criminal. He created robot versions of The Foot and use them to commit crimes in america in their name. His reputation should already be damaged.

Even if they didn't know Saki and Shredder are the same person, wouldn't they wonder why some guy in a metal mask is leading robot versions of their clan, destroying their name?

That's because there is not Foot in Japan. The Foot Clan, for all intents and purposes, are gone and replaced by robots and 2 incompetent mutants. That's another reason why the 'proof' didn't make sense. Who cares if this shows that Shredder framed Splinter so many years ago. There is noone left to actually show it to. Shredder doesn't have much of a Foot Clan to be kicked out of anymore.

Correct. And in "White Belt, Black Heart", their sensei is suddenly nice to Splinter and has been communicating with him telepathically even after throwing him out for the alleged assassination attempt.

I didn't pay much attention to continuity in the 1987 cartoon anyway so it didn't bother me much as a child. The OT didn't take itself too seriously so it's still easy to ignore the plot holes as an adult.

You're right. I also love how the writers can't decide who own the Foot Soldiers. Some episodes imply Krang own them, others imply it's Shredder. In one episode, the Foot Soldiers turned against Shredder when Krang ordered them to seize him. It was the episode where Shredder tried to doublecross Krang for some force field device.

The show had many different writers who were all writing various episodes at the same time.

You could tell David Wise was trying to give the series some overall structure and world building but with so many other writers doing the show it was hard.

The human Foot are in Japan (many of them probably arrested by Japanese police). The robots Shredder built, when he no longer needed the humans, are inside the Technodrome-

In the opening episode, when the turtles and April are tracking down the mystery ninjas, they come across the phony security company (which is run by Shredder- and employs several human Foot) as well as the Ninja Pizza, Dry Cleaners, Dentist, etc.... All of which are operated by- HUMAN Foot!! (Probably not actual ninjas, but not EVERY member of a ninja clan is actually a ninja, either. Some do other duties in the clan.)

I always thought that was just a nice angle the early episodes had that did not get explored or further fleshed out later on the series. I would loved to have seen more of this. The "ninja" district run by Shredder and the human foot gave the bad guys more scope as far as influence went and it would have been nice have that as a more urban element to the series in conjunction to all the sci fi elements Krang brought to the story. Aw, missed opportunity...
