I've never worn a ring of any kind (not married), never worn a necklace, never had an earing. Hell I don't even wear a watch because I use my phone to tell the time.

Does anyone else here never wear jewelery?

As of right now, I can say I've never worn jewelry. Though I've been considering (for a long time) to start wearing necklaces, just for the sake of it. I also thought about getting my ears pierced at some point...but quickly realized that was a bad idea.

Although I have been known to wear a phantom ring, but only to slam evil.

I've never been comfortable wearing necklaces, rings etc- never had a pierced ear or anything else for that matter either.
It's just not me.

I never wore a watch either until my late Grandfather gave me his.

In my younger days, I used to wear a lot of silver (don't really like gold). Silver chains, bracelets, hooped and studded earrings, silver rings, seashell necklaces. I really love dog tags as well. But over the last few years I have sort of stopped. I sometimes wear my thick silver chain but that's it. I do like jewellery though, I must admit. I was actually thinking about asking for a ring or two for Xmas.

Why do you say that? As long as you got a smaller-gauge piercing, it'd close up again with no problems if you wanted to take it out.

I consistently wear jewelry, though I don't usually like wearing things on my wrists unless they're non-metal. I mean, I've always got my piercing jewelry in (and always have back-up o-rings and spare bars in my wallet in case I ever lose a ball or something while I'm out and about), and I wear a lot of necklaces unless I'm having a day where I'm deliberately trying to look more androgynous.

I don't wear anything really expensive, except for the rings my partner gave me - but I wear those on a chain around my neck rather than on my fingers.

I wear a watch when I dress up for an occasion such as a wedding or a formal event. A girlfriend once bought me a gold chain, which I wore once or twice. Jewelry isn't really my thing. Never had anything pierced.

I had an earring for a few years, but stopped wearing it and it grew over. I had an eyebrow ring in high school for less than a week and it got torn out in a fight, still have the scar. I also wore rings off and on in high school when I was dating, because there was a fad where couples would share a ring and swap it between classes or whatever. Dumb teenage sh*t, mostly.

Aside from those, my immediate thought was that I don't, but I've actually been wearing a chain for almost 10 years. My fiance gave it to me on our first anniversary and I've never taken it off. It's weird, because I've worn it for so many years that I don't even think about it anymore. It's just a part of me.

Same here, with the chain. My dad gave me a quartz crystal when I was around 7 or 8 and I've worn one ever since -- my original crystal broke some years later, but he gave me a replacement that I've grown really attached to. Everyone in my family wears one, but Dad and I are the only two that never take ours off.

I think people get really attached to the jewelry pieces that they don't take off; I don't usually like having my wolf pendant off for any reason (on the occasions that I do take it off, where I'm doing stuff where it might get broken, I make sure it's within arms' length of me still).

I feel like it's got so much of my... well, energy/aura in a sense? It's such a personal thing. Not in a hippy-dippy kind of way (although that's probably how it's sounding... I dunno, maybe it is), but you know how in the old countries, they had the superstition about burning hair and toenail clippings so nobody could use it to put the evil on you?

Maybe it's just me.

I'm serious, I've never worn jewelry much less in the shower, so I don't know how it works.

I remember reading stories of people losing their earings in the shower drains.

You have seen people wearing jewelry though, right? Necklaces and bracelets usually have a clasp which prevents them from coming undone.

As far as earrings go, it'd depend on the type - I don't wear "standard" butterfly-backed or hoop earrings so I couldn't comment on whether they're prone to getting lost easily. Everything in my ears is proper piercing-grade barbells/flatback plugs or captive bead rings (which I clean and check the tightness of every morning). Occasionally I've had ear jewelry come loose in my sleep (as I toss and turn quite a bit), but never in the shower - with the weight and type that I wear, I'd hear it hit the tiles anyway; regardless, it's pretty unlikely. I've been wearing piercing jewelry in various parts of my anatomy since I was 18 and I've never lost a piece in the shower. All of my bars are internally threaded as well, which is less prone to coming loose than externally threaded jewelry.

Used to wear a cross necklace on a leather strap and a bracelet made of clothespin springs when I was in high school.

Um- I ALWAYS wear at least a necklace. I used to wear my wedding/engagement ring, but since I have worked in the food industry for almost a decade, I stopped wearing it, as I was worried it might come off into the pizza ingredients (when I worked at a Papa John's) and haven't worn it since. I used to wear earrings, too, but I usually wore the hook type, and one of my jobs didn't allow earrings, so I stopped wearing those. I do slip some in on occasion, but not normally. But I NEVER take off my pendants. I have one that is an onyx and zirconia-covered spider, and another that I currently wear that is a small tiger's-eye carved into a turtle. (Spider and turtle are two of my animal totems, along with the panther, falcon, and dragon, so I wear them for spiritual reasons.) I also had a Goddess Rose pentacle that I used to wear all the time, but it was pewter, and since the metal is soft, it eventually broke. But the other two I wear on sturdy chains, and they are made of silver or stone, so they are stronger. I only take one off when I want to switch them out.

And yes, I wear them even to bed or in the shower- never had one come off in the shower yet! And the chains are just the right length to avoid getting tangled or twisted, so I don't worry about them when I sleep.

My dad works in a few jails and prisons installing cameras, computers, and alarms.
I'll have to ask if his job allows him to wear any sort of watches or if it would interfere with company policies or the equipment that he installs.

I wear bone-carved pieces that are handmade by various artists/carvers, inspired by Polynesian culture. The bones used are of cow bones. Although, they do make pieces out of whale bone, but, I can't trust if the whale was killed by poachers or not, so, I stay out of that, regardless if it was "legally" obtained (much, like, how many diamonds are "legally" obtained by bordered countries of Sierra Leone that don't have such resources).

Well if you ever reconsider and have any questions you want to ask beforehand, let me know. :) I don't think there's as much stigma for guys with pierced lobes these days - I can't imagine many people batting an eyelid over a tiny little 10 or 12g set of lobe piercings when there are so many guys walking around with stretched lobes. (Just in case that came off sounding like I have a problem with stretched lobes - I don't, I just imagine it catches more attention!)

Watches are SO last century. Why buy an expensive watch when you can take 3 seconds to pull you phone out of your pocket and tell the time?

I can't believe people out there spend $200-$500 for something that tells you the time. We're not in 1985 anymore.

Cubed, get over it. Some people prefer to wear watches, and not all of them cost that much. There are lots of watches that are much cheaper than the prices you mentioned. Let people do what they want. I don't wear a watch and rarely have, but that doesn't mean I have a problem with people who do decide to wear them.

Leo656

I haven't worn a watch since 2000, since the battery died in my Episode I Obi-Wan Kenobi watch. Fun Fact: That's when I started wearing bandannas and/or wristbands; I got used to having something there and never bothered replacing the watch. I hate being a slave to time, anyway.

I rarely wear jewelry anymore, although I have and I own a fair bit. I have a pretty rad collection of cross necklaces, but most of my jobs have been ones where jewelry is frowned upon or at least cumbersome, so I fell out of it. I pretty much only wear any when it's a special occasion or holiday. Same with my earrings; both ears are pierced, two in the left and one in the right, but I only wear them occasionally. I have to take them out to go to work, anyways, so it's become more of a hassle than anything. I still wear them, though, just not every day like I used to. Most of my earrings are crosses and Indian feathers, stuff like that. Always dangly stuff, I kind of don't see the point in studs or small earrings, especially since my hair is so long. For some reason, the right hole has always tried to heal over really quickly and I've always had a problem getting the earring in that side. I've had to tear a new hole out the back of my lobe almost every time since I first got it done. That's another reason I don't wear them as much. I got my left ear pierced when I was 10 and it never gave me a problem. I got the second left one and the right one on the same day when I was 17, and the left one is fine but the right one always tried to close, I'unno.

I've never really wore rings or anything. Well, occasionally. If I had one of those nice, authentic-looking Green Lantern or Sinestro rings I might be more inclined, but that's about it.

CyberCubed
11-26-2014, 12:38 AM
Another reason I never got into jewelery is because I would always be afraid of losing something. If you spend $200 on a necklace wouldn't you be paranoid that you'll lose it one day and $200 will be down the drain?

Kind of a waste of money.

Leo656
11-26-2014, 12:51 AM
Seeing as how the most I've ever spent on anything was $20, I can't relate to that problem. Where you shoppin'? You lookin' for some diamond earrings there, buddy? Ya gonna get the matching bracelet? :tgrin:

MsMarvelDuckie
11-26-2014, 01:02 AM
I've never had that problem. Most of my jewelry is relatively inexpensive stuff- mostly silver, as I rarely wear anything gold anymore, and I have several pieces that are pewter- so I'm not too worried about losing it. The worst problem I ever have is occasionally having a chain break. I just get a new one and put whatever was on the broken chain on the new one. No biggie. my pieces have more sentimental and/or spiritual value than material value, anyway. That said, my most expensive and valuable piece is, of course, my wedding/engagement ring. It's the one piece of jewelry that I get concerned about losing, mostly because my (then future) hubby bought it, and we currently don't have the money to replace it if it were lost or stolen.

As mentioned, the two pieces I wear most often are my spider and turtle pendants, and a tiger's eye and hematite spire that I sometimes wear. I used to wear a pair of dragon-claw earrings, but one was lost, so I turned the other into a pendant, as well. But I love to wear earrings and bracelets on holidays or other special occasions. I even have a silver-tone bead bracelet that I made myself. They are all pieces that have meaning for me, but I don't stress over possibly losing them, since most are fairly easy to replace. If my spider gets lost, I can find a replacement at my local Wal-Mart for about 75$, which is where I got it to begin with. My turtle is even easier to replace, assuming I can go to Scarborough Faire the next time it's open. 15$, and I've got a new one of any type of stone I want. If anything happens to the tiger-eye turtle I have now, my next one will be jadite. (Cause it's GREEN, LOL!!)

Dude - ARGH. :cry::cry::cry:

Would you be able to get away with wearing clear jewelry at work?

Just a clear labret retainer or a silicone earskin could do the trick; that way it'd keep your piercing open while keeping the boss happy (theoretically) and you wouldn't have to tear up your ear every time you wanted to wear proper earrings again...

http://bodyartforms-gallery.bodyartforms.com/retainers.jpg

They only cost a couple of bucks; I'm not sure what size you are but you can check against this size chart - 16g or 14g are what standard lobe piercings are commonly done at.

I pretty much gave up on earrings long ago. I can still get them in just fine (just went and tried after some years of wearing none and no problem), but the posts/back jabbing me in the head behind the ear at night as a side sleeper and the fact that I had a habit of taking them out in my sleep and losing them in my bed... it just became too much hassle.

At least I can still wear some on rare special occasions.

Odd that this thread popped up again, as I JUST lost my goddess rose that I've been wearing for over three years. I took it off at work to soak in a ketchup "bath" (it's copper and the ketchup will get rid of the oxidation) and I left it by accident when I got off. Called to see if someone would put it in the office when I realized it was still there, but came in today, and no dice. Evidently they didn't move it, so it's probably in the dumpster by now. I feel naked without it ....

I always see those commercials, "Diamonds are forever" and I'm like...who spends $1,500-$3,000 on a tiny jewel that will do nothing but sit on your finger. What a colossal waste of money.

Some people consider jewelry an investment, as gold and gems tend to increase in value. And for wedding rings, it's equal parts value and sentiment, as it shows commitment and devotion. It's a symbol of love.

Or symbol of being in a happy, loving and lasting relationship. Depends on your point of view. You're only a "sucker", if the relationship is toxic and/or unhappy/unhealthy. Mine is neither. I guess I won at life in the relationship department. 22+ yrs and counting!

Nothing a person wears should cost thousands of dollars. It's bourgeoisie bullsh*t.

Not to mention that diamonds are mined using Actual Slaves.

If a person needs a multi-thousand dollar trinket to "prove" that you love them, they're a Trash Person. As my wife once said to me, "If you have that kind of money you'd best make a down payment on a car." She gets it.

MsMarvelDuckie

Never said we spent that kind of money, but you do have a point about the mining. Mine was 500$, only half of which we spent on it. The rest was paid off as a surprise gift by a former coworker of Mr D's. Honestly, I'd never spend thousands of dollars on a big rock, unless it has a house on it! (Ie, the top of a mountain or an island somewhere.)

Aaaaaand I never said I meant You. :)

Legit, I get pissed whenever I see people using clothing or accessories as status symbols. Nobody needs a diamond, or a Rolex, or alligator shoes, or any of that sh*t. It's classist, elitist nonsense and I can't believe we still as a society perpetuate it. Like I can't believe there's even still a watch industry when everyone has a clock in their pocket. It's literally just "Look how much money I have!" It's vulgar, these people should be lined up and shot in the face.

The "fanciest" accessory or article of clothing I own is my spiked leather jacket, which was around half a grand, but that was a wrestling-related purchase as I needed it for my entrance gear. The one I wear for everyday stuff was only a couple hundred, as I recall.

People can do what they like with their own money, but I don't much like show-offs and people who flaunt their wealth through meaningless status symbols like diamond rings or fancy watches.

Yeah, ditto the multi-yacht thing, gold-plated everything, and the ridiculously expensive purses and shoes. I mean, why??!! Don't get me wrong, some of that stuff is cool or nice, but to throw down thousands of dollars for it? Nah, I would just as soon spend the money on a good sword or two that would at least be useful when the government finally outlaws bullets, lol. (If I'm a sucker for anything, it's a well-crafted blade....)

In terms of clothes I wear the cheapest regular jeans/T-shirts I have. I don't have a watch since I have my phone, and I don't wear any jewelry. I don't really care much what I wear at my age, I have some clothes to wear for work and that's it.

No idea why people spend so much money on expensive shirts and pants either, most of the time they'll get dirty eventually by dropping food on it accidentally, but also what's the point? If I can wear a pair of jeans and $10 shirt I'll wear that over buying a $70 shirt and expensive pants.

Cubed, I think this may be part of why you're still single. There's a difference between spending insane amounts of money, and spending enough to look decent and give a good first impression. Not saying the cheap clothes are trashy, but a person can tell if someone puts a bit of effort into their appearance, or not. It does make a difference to dress a bit nice now and then. (I like tees and leggings or pajamas at home, myself, but out in public? I will dress a little nicer to go somewhere.)

Some people are just naturally materialist assholes.

Once upon a time, a friend of mine got a new car. He was driving my wife and I someplace to eat, and he went NUCLEAR when she flicked a piece of lint. He legit screamed at her until she started crying, because she had some lint on her finger and casually flicked it onto the floor of his precious new car.

Suffice to say, we never went anywhere with that "friend" ever again. He ended up cracking the car up in a fender-bender not too long after and I laughed my f*cking ass off.

Well, that's kinda sh*tty to say to someone. It reinforces the idea many men have that women are superficial and materialistic. At least, it doesn't discourage it. "You're single because you don't dress nice." Ouch.

Not what I meant, really, but point taken. Was more on the line of how a guy who takes some time and effort to present an appealing "package" (no, not THAT kind) can certainly be more attractive to- whatever sex he's interested in. That's just basic human nature. Not being shallow, just that hygiene and looking at least presentable (ie, not like say, Garbage Man from TMNT 03) goes a long way. Honestly, I don't know of any female who doesn't at least think in terms of basic standards of minimum effort to look decent when it comes to picking a mate. I don't mean GQ, just- not backwoods inbred redneck either. (Remember the creepy hillbilly family from that one X-Files ep? Yeah, that.)

I knew what you meant, it still just came out tone-deaf is all.

Like, I once had a girl I was interested in tell me that while she thought I was a good-looking guy and we got along very well, she'd never be interested in dating me because of my hair and how I dressed. She liked guys who looked like Backstreet Boys and that was her predominant criteria. 20+ years later, SHE is still single. It all worked out for the best, but her accidentally revealing just how shallow she was did a lot to kill any lingering interest I had in her.

So given how "Women are generally only interested in guys because of their looks and how much money they have" is a very real thing that most guys have had to deal with at some point or other, my eyebrow goes up whenever I see a chick lean into that, whether it be on purpose or not.

Fair enough. I don't actually care what a guy "looks like", so long as he's clean, his attire isn't dirty, full of holes, etc, and I don't get his "aroma" before he walks into the room. Case in point, my mate isn't what I'd call "pin-up" or even Hollywood b-list material, he's just- average. But he cleans up nice, has pretty eyes (they even look good in drag, lol), and a smile that lights up a room. And he dresses fairly decent most days. Jeans and tees, but well-kept ones. He cares about his appearance to some degree, and it shows, even if his looks aren't anything special.

This is pretty standard op for ladies... There have been at least a couple ladies that I'd been interested in that only liked guys with money & were stereo typical CW handsome... even if they're complete a$$holes... One even hated her cheating exhusband & yet the dude she has been with since is two timing her too. *shrug*

Find a not shallow woman these days anyways. :tlol:

Nope, never have. I dunno but I guess I’m a weird person because wearing a necklace or say a watch on my wrist would annoy/bother me so yeah lol

And I always have my phone with me so there’s my “watch” lol.

I guess it counts as jewelry, but sometimes I do wear a cross. Sometimes it's hanging out of my shirt, sometimes it's under my shirt, but I kinda don't pay attention to that. Luckily the people I hang with don't make such a big deal about it even if some are atheist or whatever, just like it feels like sometimes I'm the only one saying grace before eating. It just is what it is and that's cool.

I rarely wear makeup or jewellery

While I like the look of earrings, I've never had anything pierced, I did once get some clip-on donut earrings and I'd like some jem style star ones, but if I do start wearing them, they will still be clip-ons,

necklaces are alright but I only really wear them if I'm going out and they can be tight to take off

I'd like to put on makeup more, but it takes so long to take off and I only really do it when going out on occasions, I don't like the feeling of a blush brush getting too close to my eye

my solution to carrying things around is bringing a small bag with me wherever I go, other things just go in my coat or shirt pockets.
