View Full Version : Should the show parody other genre's besides horror?

Other than all the horror movie tributes, and the comedy nods, what other genre's should Nick TMNT spoof?

I'd love to see it take on the adventure genre like Indiana Jones. The Turtles usually go on adventures exploring ancient ruins, pyramids, or underground dungeons anyway in other series, so it would be nice.

More sci-fi is expected, with the Triceratons eventually showing up. We still need a proper Turtles in Space arc, with the Turtles on alien planets like D'hoonib and flying spaceships.

Time Travel we're definitely getting with Renet showing up, hopefully the first stop is the prehistoric past with dinosaurs.

etc.

Yes. Adventure is my favorite genre. Like you said, Indiana Jones would be great, and considering the cast, The Goonies could be another good one to be inspired from.

I would really love if they do parody of kung fu films and samurai movies.

Hell a whole season base on Seven Samurai would so awesome!http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff286/nfforums/NF%20smilies/th_thexcited.gif

I would love to see them do a Western.

They could do it in the style of Back to the Future 3, what with Renet showing up and all.

That is exactly what I was thinking.

With a similar train and cowboy hats? Awwww that would be adorable. Oh and awesome too. :)

How about they have their own stories instead of referencing other ones?

How about they have their own stories instead of referencing other ones?

Yeah they really should take a break.:embarass:
Maybe the references should be more subtle and in the background like they were in season 1.

They could parody war movies?

I don't think they should parody anything - they should just let the show be its own, unique thing. An homage here and there is fine, great if its nodding back to a previous TMNT incarnation. But why need it be a parody? Since they started parodying other films the show has lost some of its unique flavour.

TMNT is a show that pretty much parodies every Genre.

Ciro mentioned during SDCC 2012 that The Goonies has always been a reference point for the turtles since early on.

How about a parody of The Breakfast Club at some point?

Well, I'd love to have Splinter for that one, but that would be cool. Turtles in detention.

;)

It has, but I think people are getting tired of the horror homages and want to see something else. Not me though. I like what we've been getting and I say bring it on!

With the show poking fun at the different Genres, I wouldn't be surprise if someday... They poke fun at the Romantic Comedy with all the Apritello stuff going on. hah

Which references can we list so far on the cartoon?

All the homages and parodies kind of reeks of "Running out of story" and needing to pad things out. Just sayin'.

Most shows usually need a couple more seasons under their belt before they go all heavy on that kind of stuff. I'unno. I kind of don't see the point since they claim the audience is mostly kids, but none of them would even "get" most of the references. I mean, it's nice that they put stuff in for the older folks, but it's not super-necessary.

I like the show but sometimes it seems like the folks writing it are trying to be a little more clever or cutesy than they really are or need to be. I'unno.

They already have. They've poked fun/had a homage/parodied fantasy/adventure, the supernatural, sci-fi, and horror. They've even poked fun at sentai, anime, and Hanna Barbera (kind of).

To be honest, I think they're trying to get all the horror and supernatural elements out of their systems because the setting is perfect for it. They're out in the middle of bum *you know what* nowhere. Perfect for a horror, scary setting as well as the supernatural. Look at those who always go on about seeing UFOs, for instance...usually in a rural area out in the middle of nowhere. Some slasher films? Usually someplace away from civilization.

In all honesty, these horror homages aren't bothering me, even though I'm not a fan of horror and miss practically a majority of the references, unless it was something I have seen (like the The Thing, Halloween 1- H20, Nightmare on Elm Street). I've never seen Friday 13 or Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Just know their stories. Either way, I'm still digging these eps. Too bad we won't get a Shining reference. I was hoping for it, actually.

I still have this feeling, though, that the eps were originally intended to have been aired earlier since, after the next ep, it's supposed to focus on the spirit quests, iirc. No horror there. Maybe the eps were supposed to have been finished up with the horror-themed eps by the end of October but with the extra break, it wasn't doable. If they would've aired each episode without a break starting from the first or second week of September, the horror theme would've been finished by now.

When Renet shows up, I'm expecting a time travel joke ala Back to the Future.

In the mirage comics, when Leonardo kill off the Shredder, they went back to North Hampton to wind down from the pervious events so in the show, would it been better to have this halloween theme mini season after the invasion story arc is finish. I mean it's not like that they can do the River storyline so it would been a perfect fit, right?

Or were they worry that once the story arc is finish that no one would bother to watch the rest of the season so instead of having tight storyline they thought it would be better to give a case of blue balls fillers?

I've got to agree with this. Constantly having to draw on other works suggests that the show lacks its own character and power. Really, it needn't be the case with Nick turtles because the show has its own unique style and flare. However, the more it relies on parodies to keep it afloat, the less it offers as a show in its own right. The strongest ever episodes are the ones without parodies in my opinion. They are the episodes that were unapologetically their own thing.

no, enough of this parody BS... they are over doing it and it needs to stop.

Basically this. Part of what makes TMNT great is its creativity, and all of this parody nonsense is sucking out its creativity. (Well, besides the Dream Beavers. That was pretty cool).
