A much different ending that to me further confirms: 1) Sachs was Shredder, and 2) The Turtles efforts to stop him were a little more public ...
I'd really love to see an alternate cut (a sentiment shared by others on this board) :D

It may have been cringe worthy, but I'd take this over the stupid Victoria's Secret billboard scene.

I wonder why they didn't use this ending, It was cool seeing the Turtle Van drive by.
It's like something out the worst seasons of the '87 cartoon. But with worse writing. And far worse acting.

But yeah, the original ending was better. I wouldn't have minded seeing the turtles take up patrols, though. I like that part But I guess decking out the van kinda did that.

I think this ending wouldve brought a bit more closer to the actual end of the film. The film originally ended with the Turtles driving off in the Van at night, and then the end credits happen. If they added this ending right after that scene, It would've added some closure on April deciding on not reporting who they actually are, and just mentioning them as vigilantes
Even in the original cartoons, April gave hints about them in her news reports without giving them away.

Dude, whatever happened in the editing room... that's the story I want to see.
The way they've hacked and slashed the film footage is just insane; whoever gave the order for these cuts didn't know what they were doing. They made a "meh" level movie out-and-out terrible, with the way it's been cut.
I guess you could say the movie was... Shredded. :shredder:

I didn't find it cringey, I just found it extremely wooden. Kristen Stewart had more facial expressions in the whole Twilight saga than Megan Fox did in that scene.

Ok, since it was so short I assume it's not an 'extra' so I looked... The acting. If you can call it that. And the van...really, at least sound off the theme song horn guys... no worries, the locals won't even get it.

She's so bad. God, she's just so awful at everything.
I was very open about giving her the benefit of the doubt. I was really vocal about how "anyone could play April", and how it's not exactly one of the great roles, or very deep, and how the rest of the movie was probably going to be much worse than just her (that much was accurate)... but holy sh*t, she's just the worst.
She has the most flat, dry, and boring delivery ever. She always, ALWAYS sounds like that bratty kid who got picked to read aloud in class who really didn't feel like it, and puts in the minimal amount of effort just to get it over with. You get the sense that she actually prefers doing the T&A and cheesecake stuff, because at least she can DO that.
She's really bad.
She's so bad. God, she's just so awful at everything.
That's the thing. We know that much better actors auditioned and were passed over for her, and... why? I can't understand it. She's terrible at acting, she bit the hand that fed her when she called Michael Bay a "Nazi" years ago, and she went out of her way to be a jerk to the fans when she was promoting this movie. There's no good reason to hire her, period.

Too bad Hollywood has to include names that are, for some reason, big. They should have hired some no-name journalism graduate who minored in acting.

Oh come on, at least some of the dialogue (like the "You do it with balls" line) would've given the audience a laugh. A horrified, incredulous laugh, but hey - at least it's a change of pace from having to laugh over pizza fart jokes.
And just think, we could've seen Mikey drooling over The Smoking Hot Turtle Babe. Sheer morbid curiosity makes me wonder what a sexy female ninja turtle would end up looking like, left in Bay's hands.
And he'd probably still make the actress doing the mo-cap for that part wash his car in a bikini before he gave her the role.

Honestly, the blue door script could have been a fun movie, if it was called The Blue Door, and not TMNT.
OR...It could be interesting if it was intentionally an else-worlds story. That I can handle. I don't mind an bizarre interpretation, as long as it's intended to be an interpretation, and not meant to re-write the original. But it needs to be stated up front.
If that was the plan, then you really need to make two movies; one for the real fans, and one for the general public.
I don't know why hollywood hasn't figured this out. Comics have numerous titles for their big name characters, why not do the same in the movies?

I don't think this ending got cut because of the Sacks/Shredder debacle, I think it got cut because it makes no sense for April to be rehired.
Think about it, she got fired because she attempted to sell a story about mutant turtles, at the end of the movie (I guess) the turtles are still unknown and there's not a whole lot April could have done to redeem herself in the eyes of Mrs Thompson.

I've largely made my peace at this point with it being allowed a spot to be it's own separate thing within the TMNT universe, but so help me god if anyone causes any ridiculous points (bullet proof, lab animals, ninja how-to books...) to become permanently embedded in future versions...

Everyone has their own standards, but acting is a part of the quality of entertainment. Every part of the filmmaking process adds up to the final product as a whole and they're all equally important. The quality of the acting does and should impact the quality of the movie.
To give a different metaphor than Powder: it's like saying you don't care about the quality of the parts, you only judge a car on the quality of the driving experience. It doesn't seem to make a lot of sense.
Well, the IDW comics also had Splinter and the Turtles as lab specimens, :b
They also managed to do that and keep the Saki/Yoshi backstory and rivalry intact, and even add some extra twists to it, which is the only reason they made that change work. Very hard to compare the two on the same level.

What jumps out of me there is with this more than anything else is some point in the making of this movie the makers somehow managed to get over their heroin-like addiction for the superficial aspects of the Fred Wolf show. Where is Megan Fox's yellow jacket? :o
To read some of Leibesman's interviews you'd think they they put more thought into getting the right kind of yellow and the right amount in her wardrobe than anything. Y'know screw the origin and characters like Hamato Yoshi and Oroku Saki or even their own plot making sense as long as Megan Fox is wearing yellow all the time, that's the important thing. I'm not kidding either I've read more than one interview were Leibesman comes off like that.
I don't particularly care for the existence of the turtles being hinted at in this way. I wouldn't mind it in something meant as the last movie in a series then again it doesn't seem like Michael Bay goes in for the modern convention of having a loose plan for x amount of movies and instead just going on and on which he can probably afford to with Transformers but we're probably (hopefully) on shaky ground with that with TMNT.
The whole thing was a bit too cheesy for me then again it probably would have fitted in just fine with most of the rest of the movie.

You just keyed into the real train of thought behind this entire production - it was all about hitting the right nostalgic cues for people who had fond, but vague memories of the '87 cartoon, but had no real love or knowledge of anything beyond that. Getting the "right yellow" for April was more important than anything else, characters or story included, because that's something that was an immediate visual cue for all the 20/30-somethings who remembered the show, regardless of whether they followed or cared about the property beyond that.
Which I'll admit, on its own, is smart from a business/marketing perspective. And that'll sell a lot of tickets. (There's a reason Judith Hoag briefly wore a yellow raincoat in the original movie, and that was a fine decision.) But the problem is, that's as far as they went. That's all they cared about. They didn't care about anything more than hitting their demographics and selling those tickets, and put no effort at all into tapping into the property's real meaning or appeal, or making any fans because of it in the process. There was no genuine love for the characters or the story, no concern for quality. There was no soul.
That's the difference between how Michael Bay and Platinum Dunes treat their properties and how, say, Marvel Studios treats theirs.

Amen.
They lost me WAY early on with the interview where the dude (was it Liebsman? I honestly forgot) "assured" everyone, "Don't worry... there will be pizza!"
I'm like, "That is the absolute LAST thing I care about, you absolute f***tard." That's where I knew they were coming in from the exact wrong direction on this thing. Taking the single LEAST important thing in the entire TMNT mythology, and trumpeting it as the single Most Important And Essential Thing Of All, I knew this thing was being assembled by a bunch of C**ts (capital C for emphasis). "Pizza" and "Cowabunga" and f*ck everything else, we got the first two, so we got a movie.
Frankly, they could make a TMNT movie where nobody even mentions pizza or says "Cowabunga" even once, and I either wouldn't notice, OR, I would notice and would commend them for not being ((whatever the Politically Correct term for "Retards" is right now)).
Frankly, they could make a TMNT movie where nobody even mentions pizza or says "Cowabunga" even once, and I either wouldn't notice...
Look at the original movie for that. Cut out the pizza and the "cowabunga" stuff and that movie still has a coherent, well-realized story. Because the people who made it were concerned about making a good movie first, and about popular-cartoon fan-service only where it made sense. The Bay movie came at the property from the exact opposite perspective, and suffers massively for it.

I thought the movie was entertaining. I actually liked it better the second time I watched it. Even though I agree with most of what is said in here, I just accepted it for what it is: a cheesy B movie. I wish the movie had been better but I don't think its a total let down. Megan Fox doesn't bother me much. She's just like any other bad B movie actress. I thought Will Arnett was good and I was glad they put Vernon in there even though I would have liked to see more characters from the show. I was hoping for the Technodrome, Krang. I hated that they retold the origin story again. Why does every version of the turtles have to have a different origin? If they didn't want to include Yoshi/ Saki, why couldn't they just do like the 2007 movie and just leave the origin out completely and just tell a new story? We all know where the turtles came from and how they came to be so why waste half a movie with it? Didn't like that Splinter teaches himself ninjitsu from a book he finds in the sewer. Almost makes me wonder what would have happened if he had found a different book? Would it be Teenage Mutant Cooking Turtles? Or Teenage Mutant Holy Bible Turtles? Although it does make more sense that Splinter would learn Ninjitsu after he was mutated rather than before. I wasn't crazy about April being involved with the turtles before they were mutated. Felt forced. Even though Im not crazy about how the turtles look, I didn't mind so much that they were beefed up a bit. I thought the action scenes in the movie were great. Especially the snow chase and the final battle. Loved the falling shot. It made no sense why Optimus Shredder would just walk out without killing Raph or stopping April and Vern from freeing the turtles. Also I don't know what Shredder had to gain from the old, tired, B movie plot of "poisoning the cities air supply". I thought Eric Sacks was the most interesting character, even though he felt like he belonged in a different movie. I liked the actors who played the turtles. It seemed like they at least did their homework. I liked the animated intro but hated the tacked on ending. Wouldn't Eric Sacks have made more money by simply selling the turtles for research or something?

There's a place for "Cheesy B Movies". Definitely.
The problem I have is, because people were so willing to accept that for a TMNT movie, it's all we're ever going to get, and TMNT actually CAN be a great deal more than that (and obviously is, to most people here).
We shouldn't have to settle, is basically what it is. And as fans, it's our job to encourage them to Do Better, not settle.

I mean, yes, tell a new story, but keep the heart, the characters, all of that stuff. Barron used the Mirage issues as story boards at some points to make sure he got the tone/heart right. He cared. I don't know if I can really accept this as a B-movie... B-movies are meant to be low-budget and cheaply made. When something has a 9-figure budget, I think that knocks it out of the running. And it didn't really have exploitation-style content or a gritty visual style; even modern B-movies have at least one of those things.

C... did some favors to monetarily get into the A club.
South Park late last night had on the episode where the characters are upset about the last(?) Indiana Jones movie... I couldn't help but think how fitting a similar episode would be.

Man, Ya'll know acting isn't the important part of the movie. It don't matter none!
I love me some popcorn flicks. Hoo-ey folks, I was drunk when I saw this here movie, so that made it pretty good.
What did you expect? It's not Shakespeare! It's just a cartoon, and I love feeling nostalgic.
Anyway, my kids enjoyed it, and I bought 100$ worth of toys for them for Christmas, and the DVD for myself. Now I can play with my kids, and bond over the same thing. Golly gee life's swell. If you didn't like it, too bad, grow up, move on. I thought it was great.

Because Harrison Ford with a whip and fedora is better than seeing 4 CHUDs who look like they stole the 'Juice' from Ivan Drago.

Yet another thing the new film could have used. A training scene/montage like that.
Raph as Rocky and Slash as Drago (Slash would have made a better villain than anyone in the new flick).

It's a sad state when you can't even get "fans" to care that much, let alone the people in charge of the goddamn movie.
That's the kind of thing I've been saying all along. The people that violently support and defend this movie make me wonder if they were any kind of tmnt fan at all. If they were wouldn't they want a movie about their fandom to be the best it could be? And if they truly love this tripe have their standards really stopped that low?

Okay guys, that's a little over the line. Seriously. Some of us actually LIKED this movie, in spite of its flaws. Yes, it had some pretty big plot holes and questionable decisions from the directorial/production staff, but it was fine as a big-budget summer blockbuster for kids who are bored and just want something to entertain them for an hour or two, and parents who are "forced" to sit through it with them. Maybe not a "good" movie for you "true" fans, (Seriously?! You guys are questioning the fandom of those who liked it?! AGAIN??!!) but it was Bay, so there you go. Neither Transformers nor Bay's TMNT were EVER meant to be a "pure" Turtles movie- it was their INTERPRETATION of one. And for what it's worth, the idea itself wasn't bad. It had some truly good moments, a lot of action and visual excitement, and the turtles themselves were very well done.
April, Sacks, and Shredder could have all been better, as could the villains' "plan", but what are you guys griping about? The fact that we didn't get something more Mirage-based? These guys clearly were never going for that feel in the first place! And I'm kind of glad- making it like Mirage would have seriously damaged the movie even more, because then they'd have been accused of riding the Batman gravy-train and trying to take themselves way too seriously. So they went the other direction and gave it a more "comic-booky" feel a la Marvel. Whether it worked in this case or not is immaterial- it's STILL really douche-y to start questioning the "fandom" of people here or elsewhere just because they LIKED it.

So what? I'm a Turtle fan. I want a good movie, not something that makes me groan at every turn. I don't want a "big-budget summer blockbuster for kids who are bored and just want something to entertain them". You can jingle keys for that... I want a movie that is at least trying. I even have a good TMNT movie as a bench mark. The 1st movie was a low budget feature directed by a music video director....and it's still miles above this big budget flick made by a actual film director, and produced by someone who has made far more than music video experience.

No they weren't. Donnie didn't exist, Leo was barely even there, Raph was douchey without any heart(unless you count the tacked on out of nowhere ending on the antenna), and Mikey was a creepy pervert.
To me, anyone can like anything they want and that's that.
But I do agree with that statement above. Definitely a big problem of the film. If the characters were done well, then maybe that would be one thing.
It's weird they even bothered with Johnny Knoxville to voice such an insignificant role. Because that was the best word to describe Leo in this movie...insignificant.
Donnie was there for 3 things: To Squeak in Terror when he sees that the bad guys have Guns. To Snort (because get it, Nerds 'Snort' when they are in Glee mode') when he flips the truck. And to talk about licking Pop Tarts. That's it.
As for Raph, I already spoke volumes about him in previous posts, especially that 'out of nowhere' tacked on speech. Seriously writers...if you are going to have someone give a speech like that? Have them actually DO stuff to Apologize For! Have him get mad/smack Mikey, a single fight with Leo, Anything to actually make the speech Make Sense for it to belong in the film. It's that part of Writing 101?
As for Mikey? Completely botched the point that he was is the 'innocent, baby brother' who is also funny...and instead just made him the annoying perverted douche who is 5 seconds away from going back to the college dorm to get another Keg for the Delta Phi. I'm surprised they didn't try to make him say 'Waaaazuuup'. And yes, I know being a pervert is part of being a teenager. But that was All they had Mikey doing...well, that and farting in faces.
The Turtles looked bad, they were badly done as characters, and the action sucked.
Once again, what's so exciting in seeing the Turtles just go down a hill and ram into trucks when they are NINJAs? I'll never get it and hey, like I said before it's not my job to get it.
I just don't see what the problem in wanting plentiful (aka a decent amount) of smooth, well choreographed Hand to Hand techniques and fight scenes in a Ninja Turtle movie instead of them just throwing Huge Containers, using their brawn/bulletproof shells, and sliding down hills. And to those who want to get mad and say 'no, that wasn't it', yes it was. I know because I've seen the film.
To each their own. But again, people can like what they want to like. I'm just thankful that I did not support it money-wise and used it for better (actually Good) action films, like John Wick.

I don't really get hung up on the "Fan Cred" of people who liked it. Just their taste in general, or rather their lack thereof.
I mean, all that "Kids liked it" talk as a defense? Who cares? Am I the only one who's unafraid to speak plain and say that kids are stupid? They they don't even know WHY they like or dislike something, so we shouldn't judge anything based on how appealing it is to them? It's not really hard at all to make a movie that everyone can enjoy, which will still have an appeal to the noise-picker crowd, even by accident.
I mean, it's one thing for a person to say, "This movie was awful, but I liked it ironically." That's fine, you're calling things what they are and bad movies can still be fun. But some people are insisting it was a "Good Movie" when it really is the opposite of that in every single respect, and those people are in denial. It's not even a matter of "subjective taste", it was poorly written, acted and staged, and in some parts even the CGI was awful, especially Splinter.
A worthless product? Not entirely, but c'mon, man, let's not elevate things to a status they haven't earned, just because your pwecious Ninja Turtles are kind of sort of in it. If more people could say, plainly, "It was bad, but I still got a chuckle out of it," that'd be fine. Those people are living in the real world and I applaud them for their clarity.

I don't think many of the fans who claimed they enjoyed the movie do their cause any favours when the say the sole reason why they enjoyed are variations of "it's great to have a new live action TMNT movie" and openly state they excuse it's flaws because of that.
That's fine of course. I personally think it makes for a bad fan who loves everything put out there but I wont begrudge that way of thinking just as I don't think they should begrudge the rest of us in criticising it because frankly if it was a Battletoads or a Streetsharks movie those flaws would matter a whole lot more.
The idea that it was just a dumb popcorn flick for kids will never be an adequate defense for me for two reasons;
1. The bar has been lifted for popcorn movies or even movies aimed at children. Your average animated movie be it Disney has much better characterisation, story structure nor does have these rather logic holes which were all over this movie.
2. For most of it's existence it was never billed purely as a children's movie but rather one that older fans could enjoy or even adults that never even liked the franchise could appreciate.
One of the very first press releases even stated the movie would based on the original comics as opposed to the previous movies which were based on the animated series. (That ended up rather topsy turvy didn't it but I'm guessing their intention to tap in to the positive feeling that comic book based movies have been receiving recently.) We had the actors, producers even one of the design guys (was it the one supposedly posts here) that despite changes it was all based on Eastman and Laird's original work. I distinctly remember a video interview with the actors that plainly stated they were aware that this movie had to appeal to more than just kids and that the turtles would be more than one characters and that the story had to have more depth to it. Eastman and Leibesman made great points to tell us about the The Raid inspired action scenes. Not that I ever believed any of the above but even with that in mind I still believed it had to be based on something. That's even before getting in how heavily they tried they to sell this as a nostalgia movie.
It was of course very late on that they all seemed to adjust how they sold this movie. Specifically the interviews at comiccon Leibesman openly says that this is a kids picture. So where they punking all the time prior to that?
I don't believe so.
It's very clear this was not made specifically as a kids picture. I've said before it's use of adult humour and it's toothless but nonetheless intense action doesn't sit right as something aimed squarely at children.
You mention the Dark Knight but not only did Kevin Eastman name check that movie as an inspiration at one point but they actually aped a lot of the Nolan Batman's style. Look at the first trailer - take out the turtles and it comes off somewhat Dark Knighti-sh same with a lot of scenes with this movie. Same with the Marvel cinematic movies which we also see a lot of inspiration as well as The Amazing Spider-Man.
Just like they went with superficiality of TMNT largely missing their real appeal they did so with the elements they lifted from other movies. (At least in ASP the Lizard had a logical reason to contaminate the city, Leibesman just wanted to do a tower scene and concocted whatever story to get them up there.) Sadly I think they did try for something more than just a kids popcorn movies and knowing the fell short went sold it differently.

Leo was barely even there
Because that was the best word to describe Leo in this movie...insignificant.
Well, he did get one good selfless, heroic moment. Though I'm not sure the movie managed to highlight it as any particularly important moment, despite the fact that characters would have otherwise died. Important, or should be, but not sure if memorable to viewers. Beyond that I agree, in much of it he was just kinda...present, taking up the old role of 'Leo who some don't know how to do much with.'
Won't even comment on Knoxville being a part, no use for thrice broken records.
Edit: And then there's that one interview (along with some of the concept art?) that talks about him being the most difficult to get right in design, saying he's the most heroic in look and whatnot. But then the script does little to nothing with it? Maybe play up the heroism some and put more of a spotlight on something for a minute? I dunno, at least maybe there's some big turning point in the story he's a major part of?

Read the fist sentence again. THAT was my point- not whether the movie "sucked" or worked or what-have-you. It doesn't matter if it was bad- that's NO EXCUSE to call someone "not a true fan" or say they have "small minds". THAT was why I posted what I did. The level of "fan-hate" ridiculing those who appreciated the movie FOR WHAT IT WAS is just sickening, and that's what I was really talking about. Notice I never ONCE said it was a GREAT (or even "good") movie, I simply said that in spite of its faults (or maybe BECAUSE of them) I STILL LIKED IT!! And isn't that what movies are supposed to do? ENTERTAIN??!! Funny, but that's always been my understanding.

Ugh, really? Yes, the script was full of more holes than Fifth Avenue (according to Ray in GB II), yes, the villains' plans were ridiculous, the whole thing was more cheesy than Splinter's 99 cheese pizza, and April was just kinda "there". Sack and Shredder's relationship was ambiguous and made little sense as written, but hey, I can overlook all that- because I'm not a nit-picking elitist. Unlike some, I loved Mikey's "pervert" jokes cause really, that's all they were- and actually thought he was the best character, and I've NEVER thought of him as "innocent"- because the "innocent baby" of the family rarely actually IS.
As for Dark Knight movies, I brought that up because in spite of that supposedly being a major inspiration, it came off as more like a Marvel film, instead of the ultra-dark, gritty, and serious movies that the Batman trilogy were. Big difference in tone. I'd have thought that these intelligent, discerning fans would recognize the distinction. (insert sarcasm here)
And in spite of the adult humor, it basically was a family movie. If you take out the adult jokes, it was still mainly for a younger audience. The adult stuff was just there for "older fans". I mean, by that same argument, Animaniacs was a "kids cartoon" yet it was FULL of innuendos. So was the OT, for that matter, and we already KNOW it was one of the main sources of inspiration and flavor. So much for that argument. Kids cartoons and movies CAN have material for adults to appreciate and STILL be made mainly to appeal to kids. Heck, Nick TMNT even does it.
Did I refute any of the points of those who called it a "bad" movie? No I did NOT. See, this is what I hate. All the virulent, elitist "anti-fan" crap being spewed by those who hated it. But seriously, the entire point of my post was that several people went over the line by calling the "fandom" of people (like me) who like the movie IN SPITE OF its faults is just sickening. You can say it sucks all you want- that's YOUR opinion- but DON'T go calling people who liked it "simple.
I'm getting so tired of people who didn't like it cutting down those who DID, simply because we are able to look at it from the perspective of a general audience who probably doesn't even care about most of the beefs that the elitist, nit-picking "true fans" who hated it had. We just enjoyed it for what it was, and that's enough. Do I wish it had been better? Of course. Am I happy with what we got? Yes, and no. But I can at least give it credit for what it did right. (Which IMO was more than some claim.) Too bad so many other fans aren't willing to do that.

No excuses, that just a simple fact. They are who they are, they made what they made for the GENERAL AUDIENCE, and that's that.
If I could print out all these types of posts making an excuse for why this movie sucks sh*t and hang myself with them, I would.
What about all the GOOD MOVIES that are released that the "general audience" flocks to? The general audience doesn't just like mindless bullsh*t and boner jokes.
PLENTY of good movies that are also successful. This movie wasn't good and they made it that way because, yeah, that's the movie they wanted to/were capable of making.
They didn't give a sh*t. About the fans, the kids, the general audience, whatever you want to tell yourself so you can justify why you like this crap.
And isn't that what movies are supposed to do? ENTERTAIN??!! Funny, but that's always been my understanding.
And yet movies don't have to be bad to entertain.
What a novel f*cking concept.
I can overlook all that- because I'm not a nit-picking elitist. Unlike some
And there's the rub. "DON'T QUESTION WHETHER WE'RE A TRUE FAN OR NOT YOU ELITIST NIT PICKING SNOBS!!1!"

Of course you did.
I'd have thought that these intelligent, discerning fans would recognize the distinction. (insert sarcasm here)
More of the same. Doing the exact same thing. Can't take it, but can apparently dish it out.
And in spite of the adult humor, it basically was a family movie. If you take out the adult jokes, it was still mainly for a younger audience.
Oh man. Fantastic.
I mean, by that same argument, Animaniacs was a "kids cartoon" yet it was FULL of innuendos.
Animaniacs was better written.
All the virulent, elitist "anti-fan" crap being spewed by those who hated it.
More of the same. Hypocritical.
simply because we are able to look at it from the perspective of a general audience who probably doesn't even care about most of the beefs that the elitist, nit-picking "true fans" who hated it had.
Once again, the general audience can, and does, also like GOOD movies. So there goes that out the window once more.
The people behind this movie didn't give a sh*t about you, us, the kids, or the general audience. They did. Not. Care.

Guess who else missed a point?
Yeah, you did. OUR point was that it didn't HAVE TO BE A F*CKING BAD MOVIE.

No, I DIDN'T miss the point. You guys were taking my rant about stupid, rude fan-snobbishness against people who EVEN LIKE "BAD" MOVIES, and turned it into "you just like anything TMNT". Which it WASN'T. My POINT was that it's RUDE AND ELITIST to say that people shouldn't like something because you feel it wasn't "good enough" for "true fans". But hey, if all that matters so darn much, why not just only ever watch/make GOOD movies (whatever the heck that means) and never even let anything else that's "bad" get made at all? Because that's the attitude that's being promoted. So basically, no Tromaville, no Living Dead (those got cheesy long ago), no Evil Dead, no National Lampoon, no Mel Brooks, no Godzilla(most of them are pure cheese), no Monty Python, no Cheech and Chong, no- well, you get the point.
Take the original Evil Dead movie. It was so "bad" that it was considered a failure. But PEOPLE LOVE IT, and it's considered a cult classic for its very cheesiness. Even spawned two sequels that were both INTENTIONALLY BAD. I could give numerous other examples of REALLY BAD movies that are loved by millions of fans just the same. So now fans of an IP have to be held to standards of what they should like? I call BS.
Seriously. I MADE NO EXCUSES FOR IT. I even SAID it wasn't as good as it COULD have been. Does that mean I'm going to turn up my nose at what they made? NO. Because I'm not that pretentious and demanding. I like what I like, whether it's an Oscar-worthy performance like Schindler's List, a classic like Gone With the Wind, or a Troma-ville schlock-fest. I'm not snobbish in my movie tastes by any means. I can accept ANY movie for what it is- an escape meant to enjoy and find something worth giving my time to, no matter if its "good" or not. Some of my favorite movies of all are pure cheesy fun with little story, poor acting, and some of the worst special effects you could imagine! (Ever see Dead Alive? Peter Jackson's FIRST movie- and by far the worst piece of film since Ed Wood made movies. But it was hilarious, and I enjoyed it for what it was- pure cheese....)
A movie doesn't have to be "good" for people to enjoy it, but apparently, some "fans" don't realize that. For that matter, even if it HAD been something more like what everyone wanted (which is apparently about twenty different movies, from the diversity of posts regarding what fans "wanted") there would still be fans who would gripe about what it didn't have, rather than even try to enjoy what it DID have. I have said it before, I'll say it again so it's clear- I WISH IT HAD BEEN BETTER, TOO!!!! But I'm not going to whine about it and refuse to support it simply because I might have been a bit disappointed by some aspects of a so-called "crap" movie.
I also saw Transformers 4, and it wasn't at all what I'd hoped for either- but that didn't stop me from enjoying seeing that one. And that was another Bay-crap movie. But did I sneer at it or gripe about what was wrong with it? Nope. I just shrugged and went on my way and didn't fuss. It's just two hours, and I got some enjoyment from it, so no big loss. I don't CARE that they didn't make it for us fans. They made it for basically everyone else. Say what you will, but that IS the truth. They made a movie for the widest audience possible, to MAKE MONEY. That's simply how movie-making works. If something makes money, they assume people like it. REAL artistic integrity and quality rarely ever comes into the equation unless you're making an "art-film". Which this obviously WAS NOT. Nope, it was just a fun popcorn flick for the family- plot-holes, inconsistencies, and all. AND THAT'S OKAY.
Honestly, I think people have taken the movie WAY too seriously, trying to WISH it into some masterpiece of cinematic art that it was NEVER MEANT TO BE!!! And the sooner people realize that, the happier we will all be. So what if they didn't give two craps about us fans. They aren't there to cater to us. They are doing it to make money, and that's what they did. But that was never the point of my posts- which you all seem to have conveniently forgotten. So I'll say it one last time- STOP ACTING LIKE PEOPLE WHO LIKE IT ARE STUPID/EASILY ENTERTAINED DOLTS!!! We're not. We just find things to enjoy even in the WORST movies. I wish more people could find something about it to enjoy and like, but obviously, some are too busy trashing it to even try.
To each their own, but don't call the rest of us "non-fans" or hypocrites for liking something IN SPITE OF its faults. I have no problem with those who don't like it- just the rude, insulting, and condescending attitude some of the "haters" take toward those who did. Which I keep saying- yeah, it COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER. I'm in agreement about that. I just don't b**** about it. I liked it anyway. But then again, WTF do I know? I'm just a "simple-minded" non-fan....

So, your now claiming we're elitists? Because we didn't like a terrible film, we are snobs. Because it veered so far away from the source that it became a parody of a parody? Because they had 10 times the budget of the 90's film, an army of artists, and throngs of fans screaming for EXACTLY what they wanted, and they still delivered a derivative story full of highschool acting and phoned in performances, based on a ****ing bastardized version of a script that was ridiculed across the Internet, WE ARE SNOBS?
I think we're just looking for a decent film. It really wasn't brain surgery. C'mon, really, stop kidding yourself.
When I pay for something, I expect it to be worth my money.
Also, you seem to be conflating movies with people.
Movies, are products, they don't have feelings. How and what gets made is determined by the market. It's very simple. Claiming a film is bad does not make you an elitist. A realist, maybe, nothing more.
But I have to say, your attitude, of "oh well" is the reason the filmmakers feel like they can make any old crap, and you'll buy it. You are, right now saying you are simple. Clearly, you're NOT simple, but when you buy this level of garbage, you've told them as much. You've said " No problem here have my money, thanks, it was good enough." They make these movies, because people are apathetic enough, that they get away with it. Why be just another number?
The only way you'll ever get a better quality film, is to make sure it doesn't make money. They only respect the dollar. The only other way, is to rally other fans to say " NO" that "SUCKED", you lose your investment, please go away.
Why are you so angry with the few of us that care enough to say something?

So what were you expecting? Pearl Harbor? Armageddon? Those were Bay movies, too. Just sayin'. :trolleye: But it is what it is, and I'm not one to tell a movie producer how to make HIS movie. At the end of the day, that's what it was. THEIR movie. THIER vision and interpretation. We were all just along for the ride. YMMV, of course. (And if the shoe fits....) :trolleye:
And obviously, if you think this was bad, you guys wouldn't appreciate Monty Python's Holy Grail or Army of Darkness, either, as they are both REALLY BAD movies. Your loss, I guess. I'll just sit back and enjoy my copies of Darkman, Toxic Avenger, and Vampire in Brooklyn. More "bad" movies, but I still love em!

Holy Grail? This was in no way, the genius of Holy Grail. Not at all.
Wow...
Do you consider Life of Brian to be a bad film too?
Erhhhmmmm....okay? Genuinely funny films...lol...
Toxic Avenger was a true B film, it knew it.
Army of Darkness is well, not my cup of tea anymore...but it was great when I was a teen.
None of the films you mentioned are nearly as bad as this turd. Honestly...
Even Darkman, which, doesn't land anywhere in my top 100...was head and shoulders above TMNT.
ALL of Bay's catalogue, including the Island, are better than TMNT...
It really is that bad...

MsMarvelDuckie, don't waste your energy feeling like you have to defend & explain yourself. If you like the new Ninja Turtles movie, you can express so freely.
Especially seeing as this is, you know, a NINJA TURTLES FORUM.
If you like the film & are smart enough to accept it as the 103 minute summer action flick it was always going to be, just means you get to enjoy this new big-screen franchise that's probably gonna be around for a good while. This lot get to be pissed off during all of it. Doing nothing but complaining. Changing absolutely nothing.
I'm glad I'm not part of the latter.
I didn't say it was JUST any of those things, but let's admit it, shall we? That is the kind of movie that appeals to the broadest audience, and that's exactly what they made and what we got. PERIOD. No excuses, that just a simple fact. They are who they are, they made what they made for the GENERAL AUDIENCE, and that's that.
Well, I'd argue the 1990 movie was made with the general audience in mind too - they took the Mirage comics and mixed in aspects of the very popular cartoon and made the whole concept as approachable/accessible as possible - and that movie went on to be one of the most successful movies of the year.
Besides - we're in a pretty decent age of legitimately good blockbusters made by people who can appeal to the general audience and deliver quality entertainment. Look at Guardians of the Galaxy, the biggest movie of the year (domestically, at least - but also one of the biggest worldwide) - that movie was far riskier and a much harder sell to the general audience than TMNT, and it became a massive success because it was good. TMNT was successful (though less successful) largely because it coasted on nostalgia and bombastic special effects alone.
I can overlook all that- because I'm not a nit-picking elitist. Unlike some
One's "nit-picking elitism" is another's "standards". If the message here is that people should lower theirs in order to enjoy what we're given... well, I completely disagree, and think you've got that totally backwards.

Here is my problem with ratings, When movies come out and get both fantastic critic and audience approval, is the film being determined as good an absolute fact?
For example when I saw Big hero 6 a few weeks ago, the movie was extremely cliche and predictable, with little to no character development, the pacing was completely off, with the addition of a ton of plot holes. But it was still critically praised, while another movie for example, might have had the same number of flaws but wouldn't it be in the same light with the general audience or critics.
Is there a double-standard going around? Because I'm starting think there is no real good or bad movie. Just ones that are either liked or disliked by the general audience.

Oh, there's definitely such things as objectively "good" and "bad" movies, although obviously subjective taste plays its part and things that are Good can be flawed and things that are Bad can still be very enjoyable.
The problem is, we're currently, culturally, stuck in a phase where "Consumer $$$ = Quality", and that's just a plain ol' lie. Just because the masses embrace something doesn't make it terrific. Case in point: When "Titanic" won Best picture. Bad movie? Not at all. Literally "Best Picture" of that year or ANY year? No... no, no, not at all, not even close. But it got the hype, it got the teenage girl audience, it was literally "Oscar Bait" and it paid off, in spades. Mot overrated film of all time? Very possibly, although now we have "Avatar" to compete for that. But again, same thing: Consumer Dollars elevates something from "Decent or Pretty Good" to "OMG Best Thing Evar You Guyz!" Or, in the case of the Transformers and new TMNT film, from "This thing should be burned and everyone involved as well" to "It's fantastic (IF you just Shut Your Brain Off)!"
The reason that's a flawed way to judge quality is, Most People Are Stupid. That's NOT an elitist statement, it's a fact. MOST people agree, completely, that about 90% of the people walking around on this planet are clueless. Problem is, everyone thinks they're in that Top 10% and not one of the Others. I mean, using that logic, it's really more accurate to approach things from a perspective of, "Well, if SO many people like it, it's probably not that great, or at the least, overrated as f*ck." And you know what? That's usually a pretty safe bet. Because Mass Consensus really isn't a great way to judge quality. By definition, it CAN'T be, because Most People Are Stupid.
People can go ahead and call that an elitist comment if they want because I fully cop to being one. One of the things that elevates me above even other Elitists, is that most of them are ashamed of it and don't want to come off as one. I just call it like I see it and make no apologies for it. ((Shrug))
I mean, if people are going to disagree with me, they will whether I soft-soap 'em or not. So I'm an asshole. Eh. There's worse things to be. And somebody has to say the things people need to hear but don't wanna hear.
Davetello
11-28-2014, 11:47 AM
Yeah, it's unreal that the 'masses being wrong' still has to be pointed out (or perhaps not, because if most people knew that then the phenomenon wouldn't exist). General consensus is most often wrong. There's zero correlation between popularity and quality, most often it's marketing and brainwashing - simple indoctrination - that dictates what's most popular. That's why so many people watch garbage like "The X-Factor" (rubbish music and mostly talentless people participating, but it's all presented in a shiny way and hyped to the max) or think that the English Premier League is superior to Spain's La Liga - the latter is clearly better of better quality and has better players, but it doesn't have close to the marketability or the advantage of English being the world's most common language - in effect English football is the most popular because Britain had the biggest empire in history - an empire which, although officially gone, is still unofficially affecting other states subliminally through cultural imperialism.
Regarding my football point above, it's far too detailed to go into and few of you understand/care about soccer anyway, but it is a good illustration of the point. When you hear people say that Spanish teams not named Barcelona or Real Madrid would struggle in the English Championship (the second tier of English football, not the first), you know these people are brainwashed to a worrying degree. These Spanish teams they are saying would struggle have won European trophies over the last decade.
And so it translates to film and television. Things which are presented very well or have the media hype behind them (Titanic as Leo says, Avatar etc) make tons of money, despite being of very little substance. And I'm not saying I'm innocent here - I enjoy some of that stuff too. But I take it for what it is - mindless entertainment. There are way too many people out there who try to say that stuff like The Avengers, Braveheart, Titanic etc are great simply because they're very popular. They're not. They're enjoyable for what they are, but on an objective level and relative to true masterpieces, they are average at best.
Oh, but please bear in mind that none of this means I'm looking down on anyone who enjoyed this film. I'm not, and I'm very happy that you enjoyed it. But objectively speaking it isn't a great film. Subjectively it can be enjoyed as a typical popcorn flick, though.

Yep. I'm done. Don't know what universe that person lives in to call Holy Grail(or even the first Evil Dead) a bad movie.
Vampire In Brooklyn? Holy f*cking sh*t.
Yeah, it figures you'd say that. Because you're the expert on what constitutes a "good" movie, I suppose? Several of those were REALLY bad. Evil Dead was originally billed as a horror film that was supposed to be very scary. It failed at that- horribly. The second Evil Dead was bad ON PURPOSE. And went of to make WAAY more money than the original. Go figure. Everyone knew what they were getting, and flocked to it for the pure schlock that it was. Does that make either one GOOD? No. And Holy Grail WAS "bad" from many objective standards. Monty Python is fun, humorous, and very satiric, but from a storytelling or acting standpoint? Hardly what could be considered "great" Its genius is in its comedy, and that's about it. Doesn't mean I don't still love it for a goofy, cheesy over-the-top film.
I'll say it one more time, if you're intelligent enough to recognize a GOOD movie, then you're (hopefully) ALSO smart enough to know better than to insult people for liking something you don't. It's called being respectful to others' opinions. Which some people here clearly are not doing. Which is just- sickening. It drives away new members and old posters on the forums alike, and as a former Moderator, I have ZERO patience or tolerance for that sort of behavior. I'm glad you liked those movies, and sorry you disagreed about TMNT, but DON'T insult or act "better" or "smarter" than other TMNT fans because you thought the movie was garbage and others liked it anyway. That's just plain disrespectful. :tmad:

Oh, I know I'm not going to change their opinion. I wasn't even TRYING TO. As usual, the "haters" conveniently lose the point in their angry, self-important diatribe of bashing the film AND those who enjoyed it. The distinction for me is that AND. I DON'T CARE if they liked it, hated it, or wanted to piss all over it, but that's NO EXCUSE to insult the intelligence of the people who liked it. That's just unacceptable and out of line, and I was calling them out on it. Only for the posters involved to turn it into me "defending the film because it's TMNT." Sorry, but that's just snobbish, rude, and offensive. I call it like I see it. End of story. But of course, that will most likely go unnoticed AGAIN. :tgrumble:
Well, I'd argue the 1990 movie was made with the general audience in mind too - they took the Mirage comics and mixed in aspects of the very popular cartoon and made the whole concept as approachable/accessible as possible - and that movie went on to be one of the most successful movies of the year.

I never said THEY had to enjoy it, did I? Nope. Did I say that ANYONE should lower their standards for movies? NOPE again. Did I ANYWHERE try to convince ANYONE it was a "GOOD" movie? Hmmm.... NOPE. Just the opposite actually. I said REPEATEDLY that I liked it IN SPITE OF ITS FLAWS. Nothing else. What I DID was call them out for using their "standards" to insult people who have a differing opinion and don't care as much about whether it lived up to a standard that it was never GOING TO. Didn't even try to defend its quality AT ALL. How is that me being the nit-picking elitist? Cause that's NOT what I was doing at all. I DON'T CARE if they hated it!! They can hate the MOVIE all they want- but insulting fans of it by saying they have "small minds" or no taste is just offensive, inappropriate, and condescending. Especially since this thread was SUPPOSED to be about- um, oh, wait- a clip that WASN'T EVEN IN THE FILM!!!! :trolleye:
Incidentally, I agree about the '90 film. I WISH we'd gotten something a bit more of that quality. But I'm perfectly fine with a fun summer popcorn movie, too. That's why I saw TransFOURmers this summer, too, after all. I wasn't looking for something deep, thoughtful or whatever. I just wanted to have fun seeing big-screen mutant turtles or giant robot dinosaurs for an hour or two. And I did. And I saw GotG, too. So it's not like I don't KNOW what a "good" movie looks like. Looks a lot like Winter Soldier or Maleficent, actually. Although a lot of Marvel fans have torn GotG apart too, for ITS plot holes and inconsistencies. So it's not a perfect example, either. Golly, imagine that.....

I always see a lot of movies anymore get called "bad" for being "cheap", which is a completely different issue. I mean, I get that it's a visual medium, but we used to make allowances for that kind of thing, as viewers. I really don't care if a movie looks cheap if everything else is where it should be. I wouldn't even go so far as to say "Evil Dead isn't scary", I have seen MANY people get legit creeped out by it (mostly the tree rape scene, but anyways), even though, as mentioned, it looks like sh*t. But it did pretty good at creating atmosphere. Even the second one, for all its humor, is really a mind-f*ck if you just let yourself get caught up in the story. Yeah, it's also very comedic on purpose, but some of it is still pretty dark if you let it get in your head. Those movies are the "scariest" and probably overall the "Best" thing anybody ever put on film with a budget that's slightly more than bus fare, that's for sure.
That kind of elevates them by default, just by being better than anyone else could have come up with the same budget and limitations, no? A lot of people argue it/they were better than the remake, simply because the remake had a ton more money but didn't do anything significantly new or different. One could (and many do) make a strong case for the originals being "better" movies than the remake simply because they did More with Less (although I like the remake just fine).
So NOW we're actually getting into that gray area where what's Objectively Good and Subjectively Enjoyable meet, and granted, that's an uncomfortable place to have a conversation. As mentioned, by what we're used to in horror FX, "Evil Dead" is "bad". But THEN, factoring in the year it was made and the fact all they had was a couple bucks worth of modeling clay, some fishing line and some Kool-Aid, and wow, now it's a F'n Masterpiece, taking all that into account. Some people won't bother, and just say, "Wow, looks like sh*t". Again, here's where we get into that uncomfortable gray area.
More to topic, I will say, objectively, that a movie with as much money as TMNT had behind it has no excuse to be AS bad as it was in allll the different ways that it was. Even the most basic ideas they were using to build off of were piss-poor and had no chance of being fleshed out into anything good. I'll also state pretty definitively that many, MANY people who either Love or Defend it, are only doing it because of the brand name, and that annoys me greatly. Because I can't pick people out off the top of me head, and wouldn't name names anyway, but I've SEEN people here rip specific movies apart for the exact same sins TMNT committed, but they love the Brand Name, so they forgive The Movie. The lack of consistency coupled with blind consumerism and needless brand loyalty really tweaks my melon.
Just speaking to the room.

It's the attitude that is elitist and snobbish, no matter who it is coming from. I do respect some of these guys for their thoughts in other forum sections, but when I see crap like that, I have to say something, because I feel that if someone doesn't, it will just continue.
And I KNOW I don't have any power here- that's one few things about that that I miss. Not being able to put a stop to that kind of crap. Ranting and reporting and calling it out are really all I CAN do. Which is a shame, really, because most of the time it feels like nothing gets done about it.

If you like the film & are smart enough to accept it as the 103 minute summer action flick it was always going to be, just means you get to enjoy this new big-screen franchise that's probably gonna be around for a good while.
Well, I know you're not speaking for all. And I'm one of the few that said 'if you like the film, to each their own'. On the other hand, if you want to throw something like 'smart enough to accept...'
I know. Shame on me for wanting a Turtles film where the Turtles are actual characters, are not pushed aside for April O'Neil The Movie (where she gets the personal backstory with the villain, the first 20 minutes to pretty much herself, the final hit on the villain), a film that could have at least a little bit of heart to it and not be phony like that out of the blue 'Raph speech' that had zero build up to it, and some fun/intense/great Fight Sequences showing their skills in being Ninjas (instead of just brute force like throwing containers and ramming into vehicles like they were Transformers).
If I'm not 'smart enough' for that, then I'm proud to be dumb. I'll go hang out with Homer at Moe's Bar.

What, pray tell, "should" be done? Ban everyone who speaks their piece? That's really all that COULD be done, and it shouldn't be. Being elitist or talking down to people might be off-putting, but it's not a crime. People need to be free to say what they think and feel, and that goes for everyone. If I or anyone really, really feels like the fact Transformers 4 made so much money is rock-solid proof that society is collectively getting dumber, they need to be able to say so out loud. And if people disagree with that, they need to be free to state their case, also.
Problem is, nobody can have a debate anymore, and barely even a conversation besides. As far as people who enjoyed the new TMNT movie goes, MOST of them admitted over a year ago they were going to like it "No Matter What", and even after the fact, admitted they would have liked it "No Matter What". Well, that's pretty dumb any way you look at it, proclaiming blind faith and loyalty to a soulless corporate franchise that only exists to part consumers from their dollars and nothing more than that, so why let people off the hook for it? As stated, MY biggest problem isn't entirely people who happen to have questionable taste in movies - that sh*t just happens - it's that so many of them ONLY elevate this particular piece of... "work" to the level they do because of the letters "T-M-N-T" attached to it, and that sets a very bad precedent.
Most of them would hate it if it were ANY other movie, they won't admit it, and it's annoying. If you're a sheep, you're a sheep, but at least own that sh*t. A little integrity goes a long way. Some people are plain; "Crap movie, but I love the brand." Alright then, way to own up to your sins and admit your complicity in Hollywood's continued bastardization of all things substantial. I appreciate you and reward your candor with a cookie of your choice. "It was GOOD, though!" Now you're just pissing me off.
Anyways, all that can be done, or should be done, has been done and over-done: Ban people when it comes down to name-calling. For me, I feel it all should go a little farther than "sheep" and "elitists" before people get tattled on. But anything more "pro-active" from the Mods would only create an environment where people can't disagree or even say what they mean, for fear of "punishment", and I have a real problem with that.
All that really needs to be done, is people having a little more backbone when people criticize how they spend their free time. And that's pretty easy to do.

At the end of the day, people have a right to trash the movie & people have a right to praise it. Allll good. But let's be honest, the arguments on this board always start when someone says something positive about the film.
There's always someone who can't handle it, quotes the comment, picks it apart, turns it into a diatribe & an argument begins. It's ridiculous. All these screeds about whether the film is good or not are self-serving & redundant. Taste is subjective. So we should probably just switch the frequently unpleasant atmosphere of this board into a more casual one. If we were all in the same room, I bet we'd all get along great. There'd be fun conversations & debates. It wouldn't look like your average page in this forum

It's not that. You're not seeing the issue here. It's when people begin to trash each other around... That's the embarrassing part of it all.
The lack of self control or care to respect each member. You're thinking people want to shut each other's opinion up about a film. That's not the case nor should it ever be, so I agree with you in that sense, but it's the senseless fighting that ensues each time the topic gets opinions.

But when you get the point of insulting other members because they like/dislike the movie and treat them as beneath you is when things get out of hand. Yes, people have been banned in the past, and if things get crazy in here again, that could happen. It all depends on how people treat each other.

No one wants to be wrong on the internet, and then half the people tell them they are and so they get all mad...then the role switches... and continues to keep switching... Vicious cycle, people.
Ultimately for most of us it's first world issues that we're lucky to even be in the position to bother having an opinion. But, even then...TMNT deserves a more solid story. (Caught The Lego Movie the other night, surprisingly solid story for something based on Lego. If they can do it, come on now...)

Yep - first-world problems, just like my worries that I don't have enough time to devote to all the study/literature/tv/games/soccer I want to consume. In truth we should all be grateful that we live in democratic societies and are free to have an opinion at all. Some people can't even afford to eat. But that's all about survival instincts etc and the fact that our lives aren't in immediate danger means we concern ourselves with things like how good or not this film is. In the grand scheme of things none of it matters, really.

Well, as many people predicted, a lot of the WORST of it died down when 1. A lot of the people who said a full year ago they were going to "Love this movie no matter what!" got fed up and left, because they couldn't handle anyone poking holes in their "logic", and 2. A lot of the worst instigators got banned.
I'm also intrigued by the inflammatory accusations that flew around about people actually being on the PD payroll to post here and talk about how great the movie was. I give everybody the benefit of the doubt, but... A suspicious number of very vocal people DID abruptly disappear immediately after the movie opened. I found that quite interesting.
Regardless, yeah, that sh*t was ludicrous on the whole. But most of the worst instigators are gone for one reason or another. Seems like you need some pretty thick armor to hang around this place very long. I kinda dig it, sometimes. It's like the "Lord of the Flies" of TMNT fandom. "Only the strong survive, the weak shall be killed and eaten". :tgrin:
But yeah, no, I literally hope we've seen our last TMNT movie. I'm standing by that. After what went down this past year or so, and knowing the proposed sequel is only going to be even more controversial and divisive based on what we already know about it, I know for a fact it's only going to be worse next time, and I'm in no hurry to get there. Call me a blasphemer if you must; the best thing for all of us... seriously... is for NOBODY to EVER even TRY make another TMNT movie ever again!
Seriously. This time people only got banned. Next time, someone's gonna get hurt for real, if the last few months are anything to go by. Who needs it?

I guarantee the only way fans of THIS movie won't like the second one is if it's 70 minutes of Michael Bay flipping off the camera and sh*tting on a CGC 10 mint condition 1st printing copy of Mirage TMNT #1 and the first season of the original cartoon while punching an animator from the new cartoon in the face.

The problem is a lot of people, at least on the internet, no longer know how to hold anything more than a single-perspective conversation and are sensitive to semi-heated arguments. There's a difference between complaining about a movie or a perceived lack of standards from the audience and flaming out at someone to their "face", though. Your post here (http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/showpost.php?p=1384932&postcount=77) was basically calling people out for complaining about the movie at all, which... is kind of asking for a fight around here, especially considering the tone around this movie.

No, I wasn't calling anyone out for complaining about the movie itself. Even said (again and again) that I was a bit disappointed by SOME of it, too. My gripes about the movie were fairly minor, though, so I can see how that fact gets lost. Unless one cries "NAY!!" at the top of their lungs around here along with everyone else who disliked it, they assume we're going to praise it to the tops of every mountain. Even if we partially agree with them! Which is ludicrous, but whatever. And I didn't rage at you, Bry. You were one of the civil ones, and I respect that. Matter of fact, I never mentioned anyone by name AT ALL. The "calling out" was against insulting people's intelligence for liking it. THAT, I find offensive, even if not directed at a specific person. A blanket statement like that can be just as inflammatory- if not more so- as a personal one, as it lumps people together in a group of "inferior" stature. Which is wrong, no matter HOW you slice it.
I've been a bit reactionary on this subject, but in all honestly, I felt it was justified by the inherently virulent nature of comments like "small entertainments for small minds". or "One might question their fandom". And sadly, that sentiment is all too common among anti-Bay folks. They didn't like it. Fine. But how does that make them better than any other fans? That's the implied meaning of comments like that. And it really makes my blood boil. And I've TRIED to be as polite and civil as possible, all things considered. Certainly tried not to go completely off the handle as Dave did recently. (Although I was fully behind him then, and now.) If I WASN'T trying to be civil, everyone would think I was a different person completely.... Because I bite my tongue (so to speak) on-line, but away from the board? Not so much. It's a wonder my hubby's ears don't steam from hearing me vent.... :trolleye:

Actually, you're dead wrong. The exact opposite is true. Having been on the other side of that screen once, I can honestly say it's a frustrating, annoying, thankless task with NO rewards at all. Wouldn't do it again even if someone paid me. And Marvel was TEN times more active. More posters = more headaches. Not something I want to do again - it's too much of a pain. However, there are TIMES when I wish I still had that "nuke" button for when things get out of hand. But not enough to actually want to keep up with that crap again. BEEN THERE, DONE THAT. Never again.
And that's not how Modding works or what it's for, at all. It's there to keep things from getting out of hand, and remain civil and respectful, NOT to stop a conversation because of a disagreement. Folks can disagree all they like; it's when those debates get personal and/or escalate into bitter fights- that's when Mods step in and put an end to it. And it's usually not just a one-person decision, either.
Marvel's system involved discussing severity of an offense, and then determining collectively what should be done based on how badly it disrupted the atmosphere and how many people got involved. Probably not much different here. No ONE person (save the admins) had the authority to simply ban someone without addressing the situation with the rest. Locking threads, however, could be done as a deterrent. As could warnings and the like. It was a system that worked, and it was used firmly but fairly. But there were far more Mods there, too. At least a dozen active at any given time, as old ones gave it up and new folks got tapped. They also tried to be visible, approachable, and unbiased. For the most part, it made people feel less intimidated by them, so they would seek aid when needed or alert them if something was wrong.
And now I've divulged the secrets of the Marvel's police force.... Feral will kill me, LOL!! :trazz::tlol::twink:

Oh, totally. The characters and stories have a lot of meaning to us, but it's still escapism when it comes down to it. It's not "important" in any real-world sense. Even debating about this movie is just another kind of escapism. I mean... I still want my escapism to be well-made, so I'll debate away, but I've never convinced myself it was "important". :tlol:
And right you are about The Lego Movie. But the writers/directors on that movie are really talented and actually cared about making a good movie, so...
I give everybody the benefit of the doubt, but... A suspicious number of very vocal people DID abruptly disappear immediately after the movie opened. I found that quite interesting.
Haha. We've all gotta admit this is true. Though some were probably just the usual influx of new posters whenever something "big" happens in the mainstream (new show/movie/etc.) who were never gonna stick around after the hype died down anyway.
And I didn't rage at you, Bry. You were one of the civil ones, and I respect that. Matter of fact, I never mentioned anyone by name AT ALL. Fair enough. And I agree, but I also know how the tone around this movie is and how "poking the bear" tends to erupt into screaming matches immediately. Didn't mean to make that worse, and sorry if I did.
Besides, I've figuratively banged my head against enough walls to learn that disagreements or arguments like this aren't worth getting upset about. I feel like you can argue or fiercely disagree with someone over something and still be friendly and civil afterward. Y'know? Part of why I'm totally fine with arguments on here and think they'll end fine so long as nobody takes it too seriously or holds a grudge.

Yes, people have been banned in the past, and if things get crazy in here again, that could happen. It all depends on how people treat each other.
This subsection of the forum has been so toxic at times that it's completely driven people out. And both sides need to stop it. It's been fairly quiet, and I don't want it to ever get to that point again.
Drop the trashtalk of fans who like the show, and let's stop with throwing around the hater nonsense. It never ends well, and just results in locked threads and me getting ticked off.... I've gotten more white hair from this section than any other location on the forums.
Absolutely, Which is why I don't get involved in any of these debates, They either like it or they don't, I just ignore it and move on, I don't take fictionalize entertainment seriously anyways.

It was actually pretty quiet around here until the new movie. The 2007 Imagi movie was an interesting time, but nothing like it is now.
...and can we please keep the threads somewhat on topic? I know conversations have their flow, but it gets a bit nuts around here. Hardcore praise or rage discussion, I don't care, but maybe limit both to their own respective threads.
So back on topic, I'm guessing this deleted scene comes from the Blu-ray? Have any other scenes been announced? It seems like Paramount doesn't give much of a hoot about releasing scenes from when Fichtner was Shredder.
It's probably for the Blu-Ray releases, Its not in the Digital versions, The Digital versions have an Extended Elevator scene.

Seriously. This time people only got banned. Next time, someone's gonna get hurt for real, if the last few months are anything to go by. Who needs it?
So... rioting and burning down unrelated forums/threads? http://photos1.blogger.com/x/blogger/3664/1495/320/913986/ji.png I'll work on my loot commands. (And will go to my room now...)

They say one of the features is 'Extended Ending' which you all just saw.
That's the only deleted scene that they'll have.

So the Extended Elevator Scene was only for the Digital Release?

Is the extended scenes as a part of the movie or just as extra material?

If they're putting that Shell Shocked stuff on there but not the elevator clip, so help me god... [insert 'kidding me' meme face]

There are no other Extended scenes...otherwise they would have used some moniker like 'Uncut' or 'Unrated' or 'Extended' version. The only scene is that Extended Ending which will be a separate thing to view on the features.
But hey...at least you'll get Ninja Masks...

So, the Ninja Masks, are that the pair with reversible colors on each side? Or do the blu Ray come with 4 individual masks.
Cause just two masks with different colors on each side seems rather cheap.

According to the image on this website, it's two masks with reversible colors.
Still trying to cheap out and pinch every penny.

Lol.
Honestly, I'm surprised they didn't include just one mask per pack, forcing completionist collectors to quadruple dip.
I mean, that was sort of the original marketing strategey for the franchise, wasn't it?

If the movie was at all good I guarantee I would have done just that. Did it a bunch with the Nolan Batman Trilogy. So I'm willing.

I'm honestly surprised people still care at this point. Even if they showed footage of shredder Sachs other than the 'ha! I told you so!' Factor of it... It really doesn't salvage this tripe.

Little story...
David Carradine died that way... he was in the Kill Bill films we were talking about...his allusions to Superman in the film that you'd find interesting.
Watch soon.

Sharknado is made tongue-in-cheek and we can laugh along with the creators at its stupidity.
TMNT was a serious effort by the filmmakers, and thus we have to laugh at the creators. And if it wasn't a serious effort we can be mad at them for that fact. Either way they lose.
