View Full Version : If you were granted any Turtles-related wish...

Let's play pretend. The fabric of reality has torn asunder and you find yourself in possession of a special type of genie: the Nerd Genie. Aforementioned Nerd Genie will grant you any wish, as long as it pertains to TMNT.

So... what're you gonna wish for?

Is it a collectible you've always wanted but never been able to find/afford? Is it a type of merchandise that doesn't exist? Is it a storyline you'd like to see? Something that you'd love to see in canon but know would never happen without the help of your Nerd Genie? Would you wish for Eastman and Laird to be interested in controlling the property again?

If you could wish for anything TMNT-related, what would your wish be? Discuss. :tgrin:

ps - Ixnay on wishing for a 2k3 box-set or for Platinum Dunes to not have done a movie/not be doing a sequel, cuz that's just way too easy. :trazz:

Life, uh, just became way more fun.

I want a Troma TMNT film. Done in the vein of Toxic Avenger 4 (which has a Kevin Eastman cameo, by the way!).

OR, more Barron/Henson TMNT films.

ORRRRR, "Tales From The Turtleverse", a comic series that would essentially be Tales Of The TMNT except instead of just Mirage it would do stories in all the different series. The OT, Archie, Next Mutation, etc. All that. I might want that the most, actually...

In no particular order...

Option 1:
ps - Ixnay on wishing for a 2k3 box-set or for Platinum Dunes to not have done a movie/not be doing a sequel, cuz that's just way too easy. :trazz:
If something different but related counts...

Rewind time to beginning of movie production.

"You do it right this time. And you do it now."

Option 2:
If we're making them real... Leo if you ever get a break, buddy, weekend hiking trip, ya game?

Option 3:
Exact replicas of his katanas and mask from 2014. Oh and the NYC button, too. :twink:

Edit...
Realistic wish: How about equal respect for them as superheroes alongside other hero characters and no longer be stuck with the stigma of being "just a kids thing."

I'd love for the TMNT to get a nice, solid film/TV series that tells one grand story. I think it'd be cool to finish it off with a Batman Beyond-esque sequel in which Shadow Jones (the Nightwatcher of the future) does the one thing that the turtles could not: help the Utrom return home.

Reasonable answers:
A legit good TMNT fighting game. Like, one that would be played at EVO.
Figures based on the IDW Santolouco versions of the turtles.
Another line of Revoltech figures.
...Basically more high-quality figures in general.

Completely ridiculous answer:
TMNT/Pacific Rim crossover.

If it could only be 'real world:'

-TMNT gets out of the 'It's for kids!' ghetto it's currently trapped in. Removing it would allow for a lot more leeway on how the Turtles and whatnot are done, opening up show possibilities and video games that don't assume you are an easily traumatized kid with the attention span of a goldfish.

Fantastic wish answer:

For Nick TMNT to be real, along with me getting getting enough mutagen to double mutate a la Bradford. I know I would be picking a wolf mutation, just because I really like how he looks, and also because I'd love to pick a fight with him for being such a douche, even though I'd lose spectacularly (ninja skills against an untrained fighter, oh yeah  )

I wished Venus de Milo to be added in a the newest issues/TV series-episodes/movies, etc. just the same as they add Leo/Mikey/Raph/Donnie.

I really like the idea of a female turtle even though her intro was a little weird (the part of the guys not knowing about her existent) and lots of people don't like her. They can give her lots of character development and hopefully new people to the series will like her, oh and eep her bandana the same color.

6 thirteen episode seasons of no-hold barred adult Turtles on HBO or Netflix. There would be cursing, dying, violence & very deep character development. Think "The Sopranos" quality show in the Mirage universe.

It's about as likely as impregnating Scarlett Johansson, though i.e. never gonna happen except in my most intense fantasies.

You have learned nothing from Mutagen Man, have you?On the contrary, I've learned from him to NOT have contact with mutagen without having come in contact with something previously

Pretty much I'd just buy a frozen wolf head off a hunter through the Internet, and then cover myself in wolf goo before applying mutagen. I have a slight interest in taxidermy, and found through it there are always hunters eager to sell off the skinless leftover heads of their prized timberwolf mounts. Pretty easy to avoid a 'Timothy situation,' if you know to prepare beforehand ;)

Have Viacom buy out any TMNT characters and comics they don't already own (Rick Veitch's stuff, Keno, Sterns, Prof. Perry, and Tatsu, etc.)

Have Rhonda Pattison, Heather Breckel, and Steve Lavigne do all the coloring on reprints of older TMNT comics (Breckel would do the Archie stuff, Lavigne would do most of the Mirage stuff, and Pattison would do Eastman's older work).

Have Paramount and/or Shout Factory release the Turtles Forever director's cut on Blu-ray (and an anamorphic Region 1 DVD), the 2003 series in a complete DVD set with all the shorts and Mayhem from Mutant Island as extras (as well as the Laird interviews and other extras from the old DVDs, maybe the Chaotic guest appearance and Fight for the Fox Box stuff, too), and Blu-ray season sets of the current TMNT cartoon.

Finish the Forever War and the Gang Wars.

A proper, full-on new Eastman and Laird one-shot or miniseries set in the Mirage universe. Writing and drawing together like the old days, one more time.

The arcade games released digitally and completely unaltered.

An eventual heavily-Mirage-based movie trilogy. Not saying erase the BayTurtles movie from existence or cancel anything - let the this iteration run its (hopefully brief) course, then reboot strong. Practical effects, talented writers/filmmakers, the whole shebang. Do it right.

Oh! Also: Turtles Forever 2. Bring all three cartoon universes together for one more crossover event, with all of their casts intact. But only once.

These mentions of an adult/HBO series almost makes makes me wish someone would make another attempt at a "realistic" (within reason) motion capture version, but for an HBO series (or similar). And not even a series that's trying too hard to be a 'TMNT show,' but a show that's focused on trying to be a good HBO series that just happens to be the Turtles. Appropriately themed and all that though of course. Like they're believable as if also the actors of it (albeit computer generated), not simply characters the story is about. That would be serious mold breaking there there if capable of getting that across. lol Like it's the Turtles (grown Turtles) in a Walking Dead kind of show or something, but killing Kraang and other baddies... ok and maybe some zombies. lol

Edit: Great, don't even watch Walking Dead and now I want them to guest star... I'd watch that one.

I'd love to see a 2K3 boxed set, if we're talking stuff we want movie-wise, and maybe a trilogy done by Lucas Arts/Henson, a la the Star Wars verse. Or.... Heck- give the entire franchise to Disney instead of Viacom. At least they know how to make universally appealing movies, and you know the CG would be amazing.

As for "fantasy" wishes- I'd love it if they were real and had their own podcast, blog, or whatever for their fans. That would be so sweet! Imagine chatting on-line with Donnie about black holes, quarks, and Einstein's (former) Theory of Relativity. (It's a LAW now, lol!) Or on-line gaming with Mikey playing Call of Duty and hearing his version of gaming trash-talk! :trazz: Obviously, Leo would have some sort of ninjutsu tutorial videos or something. Could be cool- "Martial Arts for Beginners with Leonardo".

That's what I meant when I said a "Sopranos" quality show with the TMNT. Approach the show as if it's a serious drama, akin to most of HBO or Netflix's shows, but with the niche of featuring the TMNT. That would work better than if they thought of it as the turtles and then felt they had to include absolutely everything in terms of fan service. It's like the Arkham games - they draw on the source material, but they tell their own story and don't try to cover every graphic novel. The TMNT could stay in NY, retreat to Northampton, fight the Foot and Shredder for the whole time - it would draw from Mirage but they wouldn't HAVE to go to space and meet Fugitoid and the Triceratons, because the priority would be creating a good show rather than trying to adapt every storyline.

Wow, didn't know the 'wolf goo' would get such a response :P

I do have a tanned wolf hide, but I wouldn't know if it would contain enough undamaged DNA to work, since it's been treated with chemicals. Thus the 'wolf goo.' And oooh! I was so curious about whether I could do this imagined hypothetical mutation that I did actually find a place that sold frozen wolf heads and shipped them to you. It only took about 5 minutes too!

Well, it would be hard to take a bath, since I'd end up having to do the mutation in the bathtub. Less chance of accidental contamination by other things (since you can clean or rinse it prior) and I'd have to cover myself in goo and ooze so it helps contain the mess. ;)

Ugh, no, no and no thank you!

I cringe whenever fans of what is essentially a family franchise are insistent on swearing things up and blood, gore etc- seemingly just "because", as if it to prove what "they" like is obviously so mature and edgy it isn't FOR KIDS!

The idea that the original Mirage comics were somehow incredibly violent, mature, realistic and 'gritty' (I hate that word in this context...) is one of the biggest falsehoods of the TMNT franchise. By the end of the first few issues, they're happily mixing it up with Dinosaur aliens for goodness sake.

But, I assume this is where all the requests for "blood and gore" originally stem from. That's not what TMNT is about. It has NEVER been about that.

And I don't want it to EVER be about that, just to give some fans some bizarre validation because what they're watching is 'cool' and 'adult'. As if they're embarrassed at what they like already.

I am quite happy with what we have - comics aimed at adults, shows and films aimed at family. It's not just this franchise; Transformer fans, even He-Man fans... all have some fans obsessed with adding a shoehorned "violence"/"adult" factor into their favourite shows simply so that they don't feel 'guilty' for enjoying something aimed ostensibly at children.

To the original question, the franchise is in a great place right now. I would like some more higher-end figures aimed more at collectors (in parallel to the kids lines, of course).

2. For Nick to get its act together. Get back to its core, re-introduce coherent storytelling and focus on some character development and give Sean Astin something to do besides growl and scream.

3. For Nick to get its act together. Get back to its core, re-introduce coherent storytelling and focus on some character development, give Sean Astin something to do besides growl and scream, and drop the friggin' love triangle.

4. For Nick to get its act together. Get back to its core, re-introduce coherent storytelling and focus on some character development, give Sean Astin something to do besides growl and scream, drop the friggin' love triangle, and drop the alien / mutants plots, re-establishing the turtles as the only ones of their kind, doing extraordinary things in an ordinary world.

5. For the PD sequel to be GOOD.

6. For PD to realise their horrible mistake and recut the film, keeping the core in place, but plugging the plot holes, giving the villains a decent motivation and making the turtles smaller.

7. For a new TV series - live action with great, well-designed CGI turtles, aimed at an adult audience and screened in the evenings after the watershed. Great martial arts, violence, killing, emotional scars, angst, swearing, the whole shebang. And no aliens. Or mutants besides the turtles and Splinter. Or aliens. Or monsters. And no aliens. Did I mention 'no aliens'?

8. For full control of the property.

9. That the turtles were real.

None of that's too much to ask, is it? :P

I don't think anyone has ever said Mirage TMNT was realistic. I would say the Mirage run fits the extremely violent, mature, and gritty in it's storytelling. It's not gore for gore sakes, but a PG-13 comic book film does allow the heroes to enter more gray areas like actually killing someone. No one dies in the PD film compared to other comic book films. Those that want more Mirage influence in the mainstream turtles stories because it shows that the turtles are so much more than what is being presented to the general audience.

1. A faithful adaption of the Mirage comics into cartoon form, and I mean exactly the same. All red bandana's, everything the same panel to panel, all the core Mirage stuff with the violence and themes.

2. IDW's comic series adapted into a cartoon. Similar to above have everything exactly the same but in cartoon form. People are missing out on IDW simply because its not animated.

3. Nick's cartoon can continue and improve.

4. The original toon would get a "Season 11" scripted by David Wise bringing back Shredder/Krang but making it more plot driven.

all have some fans obsessed with adding a shoehorned "violence"/"adult" factor into their favourite shows simply so that they don't feel 'guilty' for enjoying something aimed ostensibly at children.
Well, personally I'd have to agree to disagree there. As much as I do prefer a huggable TMNT (and have zero guilt over any of it), I don't find anything inherently wrong with letting it grow in different directions. Not removing the family friendly shows, etc., those should always be there and as the majority of what is out there. But adding additional directions, like an HBO style series that, while existing simultaneously as other more friendly TMNT media, could be interesting ideas to test the waters on.

(Also they should have an enemy that looks a bit noticeably like Michael Bay. *evil grin*)

Exactly. There can be different parts of the franchise, like how Batman and Marvel have darker and lighter iterations at the same time. I even said while back that I support that. Not sure how he came to the conclusion that we're all bloodthirsty savages who abhor 'kiddy' entertainment.

Mirage actually wasn't that dark. The artstyle was gritty, but, like Turtletitan97 said in another thread, it isn't worse then a standard issue of daredevil or spiderman.
I guess it depends on what you consider dark and gritty and your frame of reference. I don't necessarily think it's any darker than the Dark Knight Trilogy, which is considered dark and gritty, but I doubt we ever get anywhere close to something like that because it's TMNT.

I would love to see a sequel series of TMNT that is entire base on Mirage volume 4. It would cool to see the turtles growing into their adult selves and dealing with a new freedom to go topside among humans.

Or just an animated movie adaptation of Soul's Winter.

I'd want an animated adaptation of The River. I understand that the s3 opener was Nicks answer to the story arc, but I'd perfer the actual thing and with Bloodsucker being owned by a third party, I guess it would be harder to do.

It weird how the show is able to get away with horrific imagery but they stay clear away from the deep and heavy stuff from the franchise. I would never want them do a Sons of the Silent Age unless it's exactly like the one from the comic book and not the miller light version from the 2k3 series.:tgrumble:

I'm also in the "wanting a show that would permit adult content in terms of violence/swearing/death etc" camp. Whether live-action or cartoon/anime, I think it would be a huge kick to see the guys having to deal with minor wounds when they're fighting, that kind of thing - it would be very intense. One of the best parts of the 1990 movie was that towards the end, the guys were showing some physical marks from their ongoing fight with Shredder, and I freaking loved that.

And let's be honest - heaps of people want to see Leo use those swords of his to actually cut someone. :ttwisted:

He did, but 1) it was a robot, and 2) bloodless.

I'm sure there's been some slice-and-dice action in the comics but unless my memory's failing me (which is entirely possible, and someone please correct me if it is) - I can't recall seeing any really major sword action resulting in serious injury from Leo in the movies or cartoons.

Though there was that bit in the 1990 movie where Leo drew blood on Shredder, but that's my point - that's what I'd love to see more of. And not simply for the sake of enjoying gore - I just enjoy the extra dimension that something like that brings to the way a fight feels when you're watching it.

B&R in the comics are, by far, my favorite iteration of them. They are every bit as dim-witted and hilarious as the OT versions, but are basically unstoppable, indestructible, terrifying juggernauts at the same time. #40 is a testament to their beating tolerance. Good LORD.

It looks like the cartoon is going in a pretty different direction, which is interesting. I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with them. So far, all I've seen is the clips from NYCC.

Totally agreeing with you about B&R. They are so badass in the comics while not loosing who they were in the cartoon. My fav, though, is still the Micro-Issue stand alone. I wish that team from that issue got a chance at another stand-alone B&R comic.

I haven't even seen the NYCC clips. I have the Rocksteady toy (and the art card with bio) and I have seen the Bebop toy. I have also seen the one episode on the DVDs so far. Still not sure how the cartoon's portrayalil will become, however they been pretty much solid with EVERYTHING so far.
Interesting this aspect of the show is where I'm not too sure.

I knew they got away with a bit more in the comics re the issue of showing blood; my comment was just mostly about the movies and cartoons up to this point.

I think it'd be really interesting; I mean, in reality the potential for lethal force and serious injury is there - I really wonder how some of them would deal with knowing that they've seriously injured or killed someone. Once the heat of battle is no longer there, do they struggle with justifying these things? Much as Mikey likes to pun about cracking heads, I'd have to think that if he knew he'd seriously hurt or killed someone in a run-of-the-mill skirmish, it'd bother him - and same with Donnie, since I've always viewed him as the gentlest of the four.

What makes me laugh about the films is the turtles' sheer lack of care for their own safety. I mean it makes sense because they're emotional, but think about it. While martial arts are dangerous enough, they put themselves in some awkward positions. Think of the final fight with Shredder in the 90 film, for instance. Yes, the turtles are expecting a fight until one party is dead, but Raphael flies in with a flying kick on Shredder when they take him on individually. Shredder ducks, but Raphael basically lunges in the air at a guy who has metal blades attached to all parts of his body. If any of you were fighting a guy who is covered in sharp razor blades and a sharp helmet, would you just fly straight in and risk being cut to ribbons simply by landing on his blades? Things are dangerous enough without asking for trouble like that. But then it is Raph, looooooooool.

That's another thing where fiction just isn't that believable. With his skills and all that armour and those blades, Shredder could cut their throats or stomachs any time he likes, yet he fights them with a staff. But then that wouldn't make for a good film. Although you could make the argument that Shredder is a warrior and simply stabbing the turtles isn't something he wants to do - he wants to best them in a martial arts contest, then kill them.

I've always thought the same. I love the idea that the transition between teenager and warrior would be spiritually difficult for these two, and traumatic. It would make a really interesting story-arc and character piece. I can see Leo and Raph being more pragmatic, if not powered by something deeper than the need to battle. I've always imagined that Donnie would find it difficult to a) inflict harm on others, because even with the Foot ninja he would think about the man or boy behind the mask and b) see Mikey, someone he feels responsible for, succumbing to the battle mentality and his kindness giving way to it.

As for the point regarding the darkness of Mirage.... Mirage has its own scale of darkness and light and I do feel that the terms 'dark' and 'gritty' are thrown around rather freely. Mirage has had its violent moments and its light and silly moments. Tales vol 36 always sticks out in my mind as being very gruesome, but it was well-done and I found it very appropriate for the subject matter. I loved that issue. They are ninjas after all. I think that the turtles would benefit from more stories in that vein.

:trazz:

So if I could have granted any TMNT related wish, I would wish for a TMNT live action movie, based directly on the original cartoon. It would have character designs based on the cartoon. So basically it would look identical to the original cartoon, with settings and a story like something from the cartoon, only it would have live action characters instead of cartoon characters.

I would have wished for a Classic Collection TMNT 6" Shredder, but we're going to get one of those from Playmates Toys anyways. :)

2. To have one of my fan fictions be turned into an episode or series of episodes.

3. To voice a character on the Nick series.

4. Get rid of Fast Forward and Back to the Sewers from 2K3 and re-do both seasons so they continue the story from the Ninja Tribunal arc and end it on a good note.

5. If the Turtles were real, I'd love to hang out with Leo and maybe learn some martial arts from him. I'd probably suck at it, but it would still be fun.

More time to dedicate to Turtle-related pursuits. (What do you mean it's 4:45 and I've only been reading fanfic all day?!) I need at minimum a 36-hour day. And a lot of coffee. And maybe some Turtles mugs for said coffee. ;p

This is a little tough to narrow down, but I would absolutely LOVE to go back in time to be a fly on the wall (or, even better, somehow involved) in the making of the first TMNT movie in 1990. Jim Henson is an idol of mine, and I am fascinated by the entire Creature Shop processes. And the 1990 movie is probably my favorite movie of all time.

Seriously, I'd give up a testicle or a tonsil (or both... hell, I'd give a TOE) if it meant I could have my own official TMNT series.

... General anesthetic IS required and part of the deal, Bobby, if you're reading this. :tlol:

A Netflix Series that way restrictions are less and it can be on the level of Dare Devil on Netflix. And best part I wouldn't have to wait for an episode just a season.

I'm an author, man. It is damned difficult to break into an official gig. Chasing agents and publishers is freaking depressing.

I'd give my boobs. Not gonna use em for much, anyway, since the plumbing has been permanently shut off.

Yes, oh HECK yes! I'd kill to see that!

Seconded. Ever considered self e-publishing? Have a writer friend who did this. She's become quite successful that way. V.L. Locey. And she started out doing fan-fics like me. (She's on Mickey's comic Tavern, the site in my siggy that my fics are posted on. She goes by Feral Female there. Another former Marvel Mod, too....)

Yeah, I've got my own Lulu page for my self-published stuff. But promoting would take a lot of up-front investment (time certainly, money probably) that I prefer to spend on writing. As long as I have a book to hold in my greedy little hands, I'm content.

Somewhere, in a parallel universe, Christopher Nolan, Ronald D. Moore, Bobby Curnow, Kevin Eastman, and George R. R. Martin all owe me life debts which they paid with giving me a leg up in the publishing industry. :tlol:

Two words, CKD- Kindle Publishing. Free, and apparently rather easy. And they have the Kindle Worlds line for fanfics in any number of worlds. And the minute they have one for TMNT or any Marvel IP's, I'm submitting.

Wish #2 - Coming out of the Shells Tour DVD/BR/Digital special feature "making of COOTS

Wish #3 - Venus de Milo and Aska return in the latest TMNT incarnation, become hit characres.

Wish # 4 - All the Japanese TMNT Manga translated and the newspaper strips/UK original shorts/Mexican stories reprinted.

Wish #5 - Nick TMNT show cancelled after S4, not because I don't like it; just to spite Cybercubed that the show didn't reach S7 and 150 episodes.

A very obscure TMNT character does she have any other appearances?

Having Venus back would be a nightmare.

Wish 1: Have the original series, the 2k3 series, and the Nick series released on Blu-Ray.

Wish 2: A superb TMNT movie

Wish 3 : The TMNT to be real. But that's impossible, only in my dreams. Like other member said, and I have to agree, to collect Mateus'( Santolouco) version of the TMNT made into action figures. :D

I wish that we could have a slightly more mature TMNT TV show with plots similar to the comics. And it would be live-action. And they can't look like Michael Bay turtles... I'd prefer the old costumes before going down that route.

Yup!
Where Raph is perched all Batman-like over the corner of the building with his mask hanging around his neck.

That image of Raph is my favorite piece of TMNT art.

My personal pipedream would be to get this idea for a Ninjara mini out of my head and onto paper. But since we're going all out with the wishing I'll add to that that it be published officially and lead to a resurgence in her popularity that would see her guest in other media and finally get a toy.

Yeah, it's a beauty. That whole series of paintings he did for those is amazing, but I agree #2 is the best. The lighting, especially the moonlight is perfect, I could stare at it for hours.

And agreed on the movie thing... maybe someday.

Would love for the Fred Wolf cartoon to start up again, same voice actors. Same animation style just cleaner, less mistakes.

Utrommaniac
12-14-2015, 04:56 AM
I know this topic is a couple months old, but I still have some of my own input to say

1. Some kind of revitalization of Raphael the Lost Marx Brother. There's a reason why the Fred Wolf version is my preferred one; "Leo, why can't you do the thing this way?! I'm gonna get mad because you won't!" in every other version gets a little grating. Though, a blend of the two would be the best. With knitting. That's probably my favorite new attribute toward him.

2. A Mike that isn't treated like a frat boy or a childish fool (though, IDW pretty much has granted this). Most of all, I'd like to see a Mike as a competent cook; it's just that his ingredients aren't usually all that fresh and he has to do a lot of improvising. Thus he sometimes comes out with a gross mess. He's got it in him in every other version, but it seems like his skills have to come out with something unpleasant because it was so quirky with Surfer Dude Mike.

3. Something to answer all my Utrom questions in one fell swoop. Like a small, independent story. Questions like: what ordinary life is like for them, family life, how they make their homes...For the love of things that should have been answered decades ago, can we please at least get a diagram of how Utroms squeeze all their organs into one little blob?! Let us learn something more about the very beings responsible for the Turtles creation most of the time! Besides "Yeah, we're pretty much pacifists--hey don't look under that shady rug!". For now, I'm assuming that they're built like octopuses with tiny, tiny tentacles and a greatly reduced mantle that won't drag on the ground, with a few accommodations. Thanks to Obligado's memory of his mother, I'm pretty sure they have to feed their offspring from their bodies in some way or another, even though there doesn't seem to be a lot of skin space for it.

4. Speaking of Obligado, his story completed. Though, thanks to TMNT Origin coming up, there would be one more. Just get to whatever drives him to the Meta Wave enhancers, and why he was able to break off it before the authorities could arrive.

5. An answer to how I ended up pondering a bunch of these things in the first place: Where is IDW Krang's mother? And if she is dead, how did she die? Did Traxus have something to do with Traxus? Who exactly is Traxus and how did he become enemies with Quanin? I've created a whole story around that question, which led to its own AU that blends several elements, but is mostly IDW influenced.

3/5ths of this is basically "I want answers!"
