View Full Version : New Game........PS2 or GameCube?

Dr. Doom

I'm debating whether to get this for GC or PS2.........On one hand, I'm not a huge fan of the GC's controller layout. PS2 has the classic style. On the other hand, Gamecube has slightly better graphics, and if I get a GBA, there's that connection If it was a 4 player game, that'd clinch it immediately, but it isn't, so I'm stumped. What are your opinions? Any suggestions?

Ive only got a PS2 but I agree, the Game Cube has better graphics.

I'm getting it for the gamecube just cause of the GBA hook up and the better graphics. But if you don't like the controller layout, I wouldn't get it for GC.

I own a good PC, PS2 and GC. PC version has of course better graphics, but I generally don't play console games on PC,[Few exceptions, tough] I wan't to play them with big TV and Stereo sytem. I happen to like GC controller better, and it has better graphics/framerate and faster loading times so for me it will be the GC version.

But if you prefer PS2 controller, you should bronanly get that version. The games will probably be almost identical.

If it's got some neat GBA connectivity, such as linking special features with the GBA game, I'd go with the GC version.

See, here's the cool thing:

You can buy an adapter that lets you use the PS2 controller on the gamecube. It's true, it's true!

So, I'd go that route. You get the controller you like, the better graphics and the connectivity to the GBA game.

I think there are that kind of adapters to. Problem is that the controlls have been customized for the GC controller. If the game doesn't let you change the controlls, then it might be hard.

My little brother has GBA, so if the connectivity is something good, I should get the cable.

I'm a Nintendo fanboy, so uh.. Gamecube. *nods*. Faster loading speed, better graphics, and in my mind a better controller (it fits in your hands better... and the only button I don't like on there is the 'Z' button). Add in the GBA hook up, what ever thats gonna be, and you just get more out of it.

About the graphics... Gamecube's graphics card was designed for cel-shading, so over all the cel-shading is going to look better.

Dr. Doom

Gamecube technically is superior hardware to PS2. Just as X-Box is technically superior hardware to Gamecube. When you're debating about systems, there's no point. Nobody's gonna by a really powerful system if all the games on it suck. And nobody's gonna not buy one because they don't like the controller. It's all about what games a system has, that's why I have a PS2 and a GC (and wanna get a GBA). X-Box never really interested me THAT much in the gaming department. And that controller I hate even more than the GC one. The button layout is ok, but the shape is so akward, it doesn't fit in your hand right. But anyway, I digress. This situation throws that rule I live by upside down and kicks it in the ass, cause now I'm actually comparing the hardware as opposed to the software. As it stands right now, I'll probably get the GC version after listening to my own advice. Screw the controller. I got usta playing Smash Bros., Metroid, and Zelda with it, I can get usta playing a beat-em up that's probably a lot easier to control.........

Karpo_007
08-27-2003, 02:51 PM
Exactly. It's the games that determine how good a console is. And since I have been Mario/Zelda fan from day 1, my vote goes to GC.

Raven
08-27-2003, 02:51 PM
the only resons I think the ps2 is better is because it has the games I like, that was the reason why I bought it.
I dont like xbox because its a bill gates thing and hes the devil  um ya.
I still think the gamecube is ok, cant say much for it, because I dont own it, but I love dthe n64, so I guess the cube is also ok.

Voltron
08-27-2003, 02:53 PM
Reason I didn't buy the GC is because its controller looks like something I saw in an ink-blot test, and the X-Box wouldn't fit in my house.

08-27-2003, 03:00 PM

I'm getting it for GC. I like the GC's controller layout for 3rd person action games, and the connectivity is a plus.

Leo656

I have both PS2 and Gamecube, and I'd say go for the 'cube version. I love both systems for different reasons, but I'd wager that while both games will play almost identical, the GC version will look better. And of course the GBA connectivity could increase the replay value, which is what's really important anyway.

That doesn't make any sense. I don't have money to buy two games thare exactly the same because I like the PS2 controller better. that's just a waste of money. But If I'm buying a GBA, which I want anyways, and a game that's different from the Console versions, it makes sense.

For the last weeks I have been a PC guy, buing new hardware, doing bios updating etc. Still I wouldn't even consider buing it for PC. While graphics would be better, Pad and a good big screen TV is what the game needs. Especially if you have a frined to play with.

about the controller stuff...

the PS2 controller is the Super NES controller with 2 L and 2 R buttons, handles, and 2 anloge sticks. the handles are flat, and the sticks get in the way of pushing the start and select buttons.

the GC controller is the SNES controller, but the buttons were messed with to make it work more egronomicaly. egronomic controllers let you play longer 'cause your hands won't start hurting. the only button that really dosent make sense is the z button.

I'm not even going to start on the normal xbox controller, other than this: microsoft says they spent a lot of money researching controllers, so i have no idea how they ended up needing to release a smaller controller state side.

I still like my old N64 controllers the most though  .

Anyway, i've changed my mind: before you buy either version, go rent them to decide what one you like more.

what I have noticed about certain games is that unless it's made SPECIFICALLY for the PS2 it doesnt always run as well or look as good. I have a PS2 and GC and I am buying it for the GC.

the better graphics being only one of the reasons. I think my GC is getting jelous of all the attention my PS2 gets.

but hey I have always beleived to each their own. and so depending on what system you own and prefer. just get the one that is right for you.

something i dont understand though is console seperation. Like if someone owns a certain console system, they are down on other systems. things of that nature. I have seen it alot and I really dont understand it.
so if anyone could enlighten me about this phenomenon, I would appreciate it.

I don't get it either, I'm just all about good games, and where the good games are, that's where my game loyalties lie. For a while, PS2 had the best wrestling games, so that got most of my attention, but now the new one for GC is pretty bad-ass, so between that, Rocky, Sonic Adventure DX, Zelda, etc, I think my Gamecube is gonna get most of the play lately. Til I decide I wanna play Super Mario 64, in which case the N64 comes out. Then maybe some "A Link to the Past" on SNES, or some Donkey Kong on NES.

I've always been partial to Nintendo but I'm more a fan of good games than anything else. I'll probably buy the TMNT game for the 'cube, but that's mostly because most multi-platform ports just seem to look and play better on GC than on PS2. It has nothing to do with system loyalty, I just think the GC version will be more polished (a lot of PS2 games clip and stutter a lot).
