View Full Version : Non-turtle talkin' users

I get people who stick to general discussion as they've been here for years & found their cliques in there or whatever, sure (Like the PA tech guys & others). But I've noticed a good chunk of users who join the boards & then exclusively post in the non-TMNT sections, never ever posting about the turtles. What's that all about? There's Facebook & tens of other social networks where your actual friends prolly are. Why join a TMNT forum only to not talk about TMNT? I don't get it. It'd be like going to a restaurant, sitting down for 2 hours, & leaving, having never so much as drank a glass of water. Why bother?

I have to admit, I've noticed myself posting more in the non tmnt sections. Idk though. I try and swing by threads that I can say something about, but a lot of times, there's threads that don't interest me in the turtle section. I still try and hit the turtle threads though.

I don't get it either. *shrugs* As long as they're polite, it doesn't majorly bother me - I just don't really understand it.
Maybe people here are just more fun to talk to? 8)
I go through patches where I post less in the Turtles threads but it all depends on what's going on: sometimes it's a bit of a slow period and there's not much Turtles discussion going on. End of the day though, I'm primarily here for the Turtleage.

I'm a little too opinionated to talk about Ninja Turtles too much with people so I try to keep a lid on it so people's feelings don't get hurt.

Maybe they're just casual TMNT fans who don't really know what else to say about the franchise that us hard core fans haven't already brought up time and time again, so they just end up hanging out here. This place can be intimidating at times, especially for newbies.

Sometimes I have to recharge when it comes to fandom speak. Sometimes I don't have a lot to say. Sometimes I have too much to say.
And sometimes I just don't think the board wants to hear about Leatherhead/Donatello.

Most of you seem to think I'm asking why y'all post here or favor this section, & that's totally not it. I wanna know why there are people who have literally never posted anything outside of this section & joined only to post here in non-TMNT discussion.

That, combined with Tumblr becoming really popular, kind of forced the fan site that lots of people used to have into obscurity for the most part. There aren't as many of them around, and it's a shame, because they were so useful. I used to run one of those type of sites myself but I couldn't afford it so I closed it down back in... 2010-2011. Had it since '05, so it was quite a loss.

Who knows... maybe they're testing the waters to see where the majority of the Drome's interests and popular viewpoints are. For example in the TV and Movies section, noticing that a significant amount of TMNT fans are pro-wrestling fans, etc.
As for what they would do with that information or interaction, it could range from mere individual curiosity (how other fandoms are received in a TMNT forum) to demographic research for sociology studies or for companies.
...Just a thought. **shrug**

Well, I fit into this category of a casual TMNT fan of, just, the movies and toys...those are the two things that I've admired about the franchise. I'll pop into those sections of the forums, often. I'm not into discussing theories of the TMNT universe. I, just, like to collect some of the toys and art, as with, my admiration of the first two movies of the franchise because of the kung-fu-like cinematography (where, there are no guns or CGI-type fighting, but, actual stunts like a Jackie Chan movie). But, there's, only, so much I could say about the two films.
The reason I joined the forum is because of the hype the new movie and tv shows brought, which, as a result, brought out many art exhibits and toys for me to check out. So, I'll get my news on such things from these forums and, because I've been raised all over the world, I take interest in the general views of anything, from anyone, to continue my understanding of the world...so, I'll check these sides of the forum, after I've caught up on TMNT things that interest me in these forums.
Also, there's over seven billion people in this world, so, your understanding of humanity shouldn't be easily predictable. I find it amazing and I encourage such unpredictability, it makes the world less boring, to me...kinda encourages me to live longer, to see how a lot of these conflicts, as a result from diversity, plays out.
Maybe, I'm just not raised to be deep-rooted into a community because of the consistency of my life's travels. Which might be a bad thing because I'll never experience the hardships the community has gone through, so, I'll never identify as part of the community in such a deep level. But, I don't think people should be treated as such, they should be allowed into a community, free of such judgements. Otherwise, it's a hate group; which, I haven't experienced such a thing, in this community, btw. A lot of you are awesome, I'm just sorry I don't keep up and follow through with dialogue that I start because I get busy and forget...sorry, if I've left anyone hanging, like that.

The point also stands that Powder's told you to leave him alone on numerous occasions. Quit crawling up his ass in the threads and making passive-aggressive little comments. People here are sick to death of reading them - it's really old and it's not winning you any points. If you're that fixated over the fact that someone on the internet doesn't like you, then you really need to get help. LET. IT. GO.

I admit I'm a bit baffled by this as well, but maybe some people just don't want to talk about TMNT and would rather just hang out in the general sections of the board. I know that I'm always going to join in on the TMNT discussions because that's why I signed up for this site in the first place. But maybe other people are too shy to do that yet, or they haven't been following certain types of TMNT fandoms, so they don't want to discuss it just yet. That's the way I feel about it.

Good thread Powder, I think about this as well. I guess some people just test the waters in these sections, as said above. Perhaps they want to develop a rapport with others before posting in the most important sections i.e. the turtles sections.
I know you said you don't mean people who are very active here and slightly less so in the turtles section, but I've also been aware recently that I've been more active here than in the turtles section. Up to a few weeks ago I spent far more time there. But my reasoning for that is that I've been taking some time away from the TMNT to recharge (finished up rewatches of 2k3 and FW not long ago, as well as looking at Mirage again) and I've been more focused on academia and general life debates. That's probably why I've been more active in here than there as of these last few weeks. But that would never ever be a long-term thing for me, as I'm here for the boys (that sounds gay, doesn't it?)

I dunno. Maybe they do when they first get here but since they only have a fond appreciation of the franchise as opposed to really watching the new movie, the toon or the comics they find not much to talk about so yeah. Everything else. Just speculation though.

I've seen this happen I don't know how much on the pony forum... plus there's a lot of people there who have gone off from liking/watching hte show/would like to distance themselves from it now, so that's another thing that could be happening here.
But also, maybe they feel they don't have much about TMNT to discuss. Maybe what they felt about something has already been said, and doesn't need to be repeated ad infinitum from new sources. I feel like this myself a bit, since the place seems so soured on Apritello... I'd rather discuss it somewhere I felt it would be more welcome.
Sometimes people come looking for others who like the same things they do, and the General threads are the place to find what else you have in common and just yak.
And, just to throw this in the mix too, guys tend to talk obsessively over one subject for long periods at a time. Me, I can't keep my attention on one subject for more than a few minutes. Unless it's something that really captures my attention, I just can't stay interested, and would rather move on to talking about something else. (female mind thing) I'm not generalizing here... I'm actually citing stuff from a psychological study.

That makes sense. I post on a big football forum that's one of the biggest forums in my country that has a huge off-topic section for pretty much anything. That leads fans of other teams, including fierce rivals, to join said forum just to post about tv shows, politics, music, etc.
That being said, I'd never join, let's say, a forum about Ferrari cars if I had no interest in Ferrari cars at all, even if said forum's off-topic section was pretty good and active.

Yup. There were a lot more active GD members back then, so it was always pretty busy. There were always a lot of fun threads and discussions going on. On top of that - no one was self serious, so everyone generally took things a lot lighter than they do now.
The forums also had a ton of active veteran posters at the time, so you not only had fun discussion from people who'd all been together for a long time, you also didn't have three or four people dominating every single conversation in multiple threads.
Easily the best few years I had on the Internet.

Here's a serious question along that vein for the long-term members: have the forums changed significantly over the years while you've been here? What changes have you noticed, for better or for worse? Do you think the forums have slowed down more/become more insular in terms of fewer active members, or do you feel that there's still a healthy amount of fresh blood arriving and actually sticking around for the long haul?
Like I said - serious question, looking for serious answers (not thinly-veiled jabs at/bitching about other members). For those of you who've been here for years and years, I'm sure you've seen a lot and I'm genuinely interested in your perspectives and experiences. Are you happy with the current dynamic here or do you wish it was different? Do you wish there were more members here? Are there changes that you'd like to see?

It has definitely changed. When I first joined the forums in their original incarnation there was literally 5 of us active and we all ended up becoming mods. I believe Machias and I are the only ones from that group who are still around anymore. At the time the franchise was dead, though, so it's kind of to be expected. It was me scanning VHS covers and people talking about the old cartoon. TMNT 2K3 brought in the first real influx of members and it was fantastic. A lot of people stuck around and made names for themselves and the community grew to a respectable size, both in and outside of the TMNT community. At some point there were kind of too many young egos and some big misunderstandings led to the forums being shut down. The backup forums was run by Anarky and a totally different mod team, but that place was also really fun. When Krang brought the proper forums back online, these ones, it kept rolling, but by that point I think a lot of the crew that made the Drome what it was were starting to get a little older and people drift. Nothing lasts forever.
I find now that the franchise is more popular than it ever was during the "big" years of the forum, we get a lot more members that are here specifically to talk about TMNT and nothing else, so the GD has kind of become, like I said before, a series of threads full of the same people talking to each other. It seems like the bleed over from TMNT forum-goer to full fledged Dromer happens far less than it used to. It's also important to remember that way back then the GD was literally a single section and not a grouping of sub-sections, so every discussion was lumped into one big section, which caused glorious chaos, but meant that people who wouldn't generally even click into a section about toys or video games or whatever would see all that stuff anyways, so there was more crossover.
This is from the perspective of someone who stopped actually talking about the franchise in like 2004, though, so I pretty much only see the GD. The TMNT sections seem like they're pretty bumping these days, but I don't know for sure.
And for those interested new members, years ago Cure and I started a project called the Drome Wiki (http://thedrome.wikia.com/wiki/The_Drome_Wiki) for fun and it has some great stuff in it. It kinda got overrun by people puffing up their enormous egos, but most of the stuff there is a pretty fun read.
Also, another cool/weird part of Drome history. On Da Drome (http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/showthread.php?t=17155&highlight=drome) thread. Yes, a Technodrome rap I wrote and was performed by old member R-Izzy. And direct link to the MP3 (http://www.thetechnodrome.com/songs/ondadrome.mp3).

Way WAY back.. back during the earlier times before 2003, the forums were smaller and much more tight knit. We had a very small group of users that used to talk constantly, derail threads with random roleplaying... mangoes everywhere. HT, Nturtle, Kali, Azure, Peanut and myself... We had a great time.
Things got fairly busy when the 2003 show came out. I was in college, and it was the show and the discussions here that actually made me turn from hating writing to wanting to major in it. We had an influx of artists, writers and a great group of show viewers that loved to overanalyze everything to death - Not just trash the show.
I dunno... it seems like members now are a lot more cynical. We had some hilarious times..
Edit: ...and peanut answered it WAY better than I did.

That's the thing though, man. Not everyone takes stuff like that as a joke, and since this is the internet, people are gonna take that more seriously than they should, because they don't have the context clues to tell them it's all just good-humored. You say it wasn't like that 10 years or so ago, but as long as I've been around, calling someone a pedophile - even jokingly - has never been taken lightly or considered okay. If you're already affiliated with someone and know them well enough for them to interpret it the way you intend, that's one thing. But for anyone other than that group of people, straight-up calling someone a pedo and expecting them to be like, "Haha, this guyyy!" is just not realistic. Look dude, I'm not tryin' bash to bash you or be a smartass or anything; I'm just clarifying. People who don't know you well enough WILL be offended if you say the right thing(s).
In any case, in response to the OP, I used to post exclusively to the TMNT forums; then eventually it was half-and-half between that and the General Discussion; and lately, it's been about 90% General Discussion for me. I do love talkin' Turtles, I do. Lately, though, I haven't really been interested in any of the topics TMNT-related - but, of course, that's only temporary. As for those who literally never post in the Turtles sections...not totally sure why that is. They have their reasons, I'm sure, but I think it's largely just a simple case of some people liking TMNT, but not having anything to say about it. I'm like that with a few things, too, so I can't judge. But as for my reasoning, it's mostly due to my group of friends on here largely sticking to the "Everything Else" section (which Powder addressed).

Now you have to walk on eggshells, but that's commentary on the state of the world/internet in general, it's not exclusive to this board, as someone else said. I can't say for sure as I wasn't a part of the core groups here but in hindsight it seems to me like I came in towards the end of the good 'ol days for certain people, as some of the "key" members faded out within a year or so of my membership.
Wow - so the forums were actually shut down at one point?! I guess y'all have seen stuff that make The Great Movie Wars in the TMNT section seem pretty trivial by comparison.
Do you think that there's kind of a pulling away from and returning to the forums, as adult life takes members away for a while? Or once someone's gone, they rarely return?
On the subject of good-natured ribbing amongst 'drome members... do you think that maybe there used to be more of that because there were more members who had history with each other and there was a level of rapport between members that doesn't exist now? Or is it more that times (and the world) have changed?
It sounds like the forums were smaller and more tightly knit, as Machias says... yet it seems like there were still some really heavy-duty fights between members as well (going by the board shutdown)? So are the relationships on the forums today not as close but also not as volatile, compared to dynamics in the past? If yes, why do you think that is? Is it because the group has grown larger? Or is it that there's less history amongst the current crop of posters? The fact that back then, there weren't a lot of options for fans of the franchise to congregate, whereas now there are other options? Or something else altogether? Is it just that the way people talk to one another online has altered from what it was 10 or 15 years ago?
I feel like a kid asking the grown-ups for storytime, but it's really interesting, and it's the kind of thing you can't learn about the forums just by reading through old threads. What do you think has kept the forums going for this long? Do you think it's the community here, or the franchise, or both? Or neither?

Well, when I say the forums were shut down, it mostly (or fully) involved Krang having to pay for it when the place simply couldn't pay for itself. I think the blow up that happened was just that proverbial straw and I honestly couldn't blame him in the least.
Funnily enough, the entire argument was pretty much a fabrication of two people who had nothing to do with any of the parties involved. It's all water under the bridge and kinda funny to look back on.
I think in terms of the joking around, or any kind of arguing or animosity, it's a few things. For one, many of the members had known each other for awhile and it was sorta brushed off more, but I also think people were just way less likely to be offended back then in general. I also think there's a lack of...history...between many of the more prominent members now, I guess? 2003-06 era Drome had a lot of members who'd known each other for years, which made it way easier. Like, you seem to post here a lot, but I don't know you and that's probably because I rarely venture outside of the VG section, so while we're both entrenched members of the community we don't really know each other. Like I said before, there were also no sub-forums in the GD back then. Everything was in one place, so you had everyone in one section discussing everything the GD offers now, which means you were bound to run into and talk to pretty much everyone at some point.
As for why the forums are still running, I think it's simply because it was founded so long ago, when there simply wasn't another forum out there to talk about TMNT, so it became entrenched in the fandom and thus became one of the premiere places to talk about it. Certainly, I think an incredibly active user base who stuck around during the down periods is one of the main reasons it has continued to exist.
I lurked the board for about a year before I started posting and only recently and even though I only posted when I was hyped for something TMNT related I did see the board evolve. I've only now become more of a regular poster and its mostly in GD since there's no other boards I currently like anymore. The descriptions of the drome in the past though pretty much tell the same story I've had in other forums that are now totally different and or dead. The thing is no forum stays the same forever since the users age/move on and all forums have an "it" time when it peaks in how interesting it is and you can't really re-create that no matter what. I mean this being a Ninja Turtles forum and it being an evergreen franchise that means that the drome will likely continue existing for a long time, if you google "Ninja Turtles or TMNT forum" this is the first link you get, so you'll always have TMNT discussion but the users/mood of the board will continue to change. My favorite time on the board was probably before the 2007 film was announced, the forum was much smaller and the personalities of some posters really shined more.

LOL nah - you're entrenched; I am but a fledgeling poster, a sparrow amidst the eagles. But you are right; we haven't really crossed paths/gotten to know each other at all really as the VG section is one of the few places I don't go.
As you said, with the division of the sub-forums, it's more common to have members whose paths rarely (if ever) cross.

Likewise; I lurked the boards for a very long time before I joined - I'm actually really glad I did as I think I learned about TMNT lore from just listening (or reading, as the case may be). Truthfully, sometimes I'm surprised that I ended up joining here at all as there are a lot of strong, outgoing personalities here and as a rule, I'm not much of a joiner. On the other hand, it's such a great source for TMNT news and people here seemed to be having so much fun, so the decision was made - and I'm glad, as I've gotten a lot of enjoyment out of the place in the time I've been here, and met some really cool people.

Yeah hearing about some of the stuff that went on in the Drome back in the day really makes me wish I would have joined sooner. But I've enjoyed my time here so far, and I don't see it ever ending unless some unforeseen issue comes up and I have to end my time here. I do feel that way about Mikey's forums though in that I loved it there, but it had to be shut down. Things change for people, RL happens, and other things take precedence. I'm sure those members will come back though if they get time. Didn't Sewer Bull have a bit of a comeback lately? I could have sworn I saw him last year or the year before.
And, Dave, stop with the arguing. You're not helping yourself by this immature name calling. I'm sure the pedophile comment was probably a joke back in the day because back then it wasn't a big deal to joke about stuff like that.

Well it really depends on the person. Me and a friend (not on this forum) that's how we get along and interact. Nothing but put downs and insults, but it's all in good jest. We've known each other for 20 years. I get it.
With an influx of new people there are more boundaries because not everyone is as tight nit and not everyone has the same screwed up sense of humor.

Yea, I miss those days Dawnatello was already starting to drop off the radar, but she showed up every now and then. Also Mikey QM had his own forums that he co-ran with Tokka and a couple other people. I believe I even became a mod there at one point.

Is that also why both Shredder and Krang aren't regularly on the site much anymore as well? I mean people move on and go elsewhere with their lives and all and I can understand that. But if a lot of people get waaaay oversensitive over stuff, then yeah even forums can lose their fun appeal after awhile when the mods have to break up heated arguments over the little stuff.
I try to keep to the topics that are posted at least to some degree. I guess I just need to expand my TMNT knowledge some more so that I can keep up with the various posts that are on here. Which isn't much of a problem thanks to comic book stores and Youtube. ^_^

Yeah, for the newer members, Krang and Shredder are larger-than-life figures shrouded in mystery and enigma. We know who they are, but that's the extent of our knowledge. I kind of feel like I'm missing out having never had the opportunity to interact with the people who are responsible for this place being here to begin with.
So, are there any major events that stand out in anyone's mind in terms of 'drome history? Not wanting to dredge up old fights or trash-talk on existing members, but there have to be some cool stories not related to those topics (or at least slightly to the left of them ). Was there as much drama about the 2007 movie as there has been about the new one?
Does anyone think that the influx of members from the 2003-2006 period were less cynical because at that stage, 2k3 was only the second show we had and there was only Fred Wolf to compare it to? Has the 'fanscape' (so to speak) become more cynical/critical with the Nickelodeon revival because we now have so much more than we used to, or is it more of a social trend where people are just usually more unimpressed with things in general?

I don't think many people know them at all, short of maybe some of the people in this thread who've been here for a decade+ 'cause I've been here 5 years or so & I've not seen them post all too much, let alone things that alluded to them as people. Can't say what's the deal behind their complete & total absence but at least in the case of Krang I have to assume it's personal problems. Either way I'm glad they keep the site paid for & running during whatever they might be going through.
Dunno about major events per se but I remember one crazy time where a supposed Playmates employee joined the site to trash & mock adult collectors (pretty much just Vaughn Michael though as he was vocal in those days about their flaws in the way that I am now). There was a big thread full of this guy talking so much sh*t not just for geeky things but outright tearing him down for his job, lifestyle, etc. Personal attacks. Said they'd read his & others' emails aloud in the office & laugh at them, among other things. That was pretty messed up so it sticks out in my mind.
I think the cynicism is just a sign of the times. People feel entitled to things, so when they're good, they just accept it & carry on, but when they're not up to their personal standard they feel offended. I definitely think there is a level of resentment that comes along with the turtles now being owned by a big corporation, which makes people be far more critical of things that they may have otherwise taken at face value. In the case of the movie it might be fair, when you can tell certain decisions are made in the favor of cashing in on the lowest denominator, but otherwise, I think people just wanna tear into things when they're not done exactly how they want them to be. In 2014 everyone thinks they can do everything & do it better than the pros. I mean, you'll notice many of these complaints come from fan-fic writers who are quick to remind you they could do it better.
We also had a few Drome awards called the Dromies that were always fun. The last one wasn't as popping, though, so it hasn't been done since.

Shredder's never been a huge part of the forum, but Krang used to a bit more active. Now he's down right reclusive. Maybe it is that cynicism....I dunna. Krang and Shredder (the admins) were solely fans of the original cartoon and nothing else. I in fact remember Shredder saying he could never get into the 2k3 series, he didn't read the comics, and I doubt he's following the Nick show either.

The main problem with the Dromies is that they are either taken far too seriously or not seriously enough. People also tend to get really impatient and not realize that the ones running it were giving up their free time to get it all put together. I would try and do them again if enough people were interested/agreed not to spaz out about it entirely. I don't know that the interest is there, though.

I guess it definitely is easy to take what we have for granted in terms of the fandom - that probably does tie into the attitude towards things that aren't seen as measuring up. We're definitely spoiled in terms of having not only a resurgence in official merchandise, but also the amount of fanworks out there has increased exponentially as well. I suppose as well when it's a franchise that started out so small, that could tie into people taking changes by the large corporation more personally. Do you think maybe there's more of a sense of the characters "belonging" to the fans when it started out as a small property? Or am I talking out of my ass here? This is kind of the fandom that I'm most involved in so I don't necessarily have the perspective of being able to compare passionate Marvel/Dc reactions.
We also had a few Drome awards called the Dromies that were always fun. The last one wasn't as popping, though, so it hasn't been done since.
The Dromies sound cool. It's a shame that it died down. Sometimes I wonder whether there could be room to do something like an official Technodrome tshirt design competition or something, where members could vote for different designs and the winning shirt is available to 'drome members, but then there'd probably be a lot of work involved with something like that as well; odds are the idea's probably been raised before in the past. Unless you did it through Society 6 or Redbubble or something, it'd probably be a logistical nightmare.
Remember this whole place was originally designed as a fansite for the original cartoon. It was never intended to be a site for the TMNT fandom as a whole. It just became that way over time.
That's actually pretty cool, to think that the place has evolved to basically become the hub for all things Turtles (as well as having the GD section).
I imagine the burden of mod is a heavy one to carry. I'm guessing everyone has times where they feel burnt-out on the place, which is understandable - adding modding into the mix probably makes it worse.

.
The site started in like....1999 or 2000? Back then the TMNT franchise was completely dead. There were no shows on the air, the comics were finished, etc.
The forum simply consisted of young teenagers who grew up with the original cartoon in their childhood and were coming online to talk about Turtles for the first time. The first new influx of users came when Mirage started the comics again and the 2k3 cartoon began.
The reason this site became the main TMNT fandom is because well....there is no other place. Most other TMNT forums either failed or nobody visits them.
In fact all the original members in the general section originally came here because their childhood consisted of TMNT, and back in the 90's there was no internet, so it was the very first time you could interact with other fans online.

LOL, I just looked at my registration date and realize I've been here 10 years this month. Of course I really started lurking here around 2002 because of the 2k3 series, but I've been here quite some time.
I can't believe I've been here over a decade. I don't even remember how I got here, but I know I was looking for info on the then upcoming TMNT 2k3 series and being excited a new cartoon was coming out after so long.
Another person to add to the "decade old" club.

Oye, I see this thread is getting locked next time Machias shows up!!!
Glad you were wrong. Anyway wow I'm almost hitting that decade mark too?
Jeez. How the hell is my post count so low

I was only 17 when I first came here. I remember being on IGN when I was 13 because I got obsessed with Pokemon Blue and Zelda: Ocarina of Time in the fall of 1998.
Its hard to believe not only have our entire teen years gone by on forums but all of our 20's as well. I feel like it was only yesterday that I graduated High School, and then you stop to realize how long ago that was.

This is why we can't have nice things...
Staying a bit topical, the Dromies was interesting, I think there's been at least two of then while I've been a member.

Well I tend to post on threads not tmnt related because I came here because a friend asked me too I like tmnt and watch it when I can but I don't feel like I have anything new to add most of the time so I'm better seen not heard I guess

Why bother?
I've done it some elsewhere (non TMNT), I think largely it's nice to be in a place with others who share an interest (while friends on Facebook, etc. might not), but on those forums my interest may be more casual or simply not as interested in the particular topics that might get posted about much of the time. Or on popular ones such as MMO Champion, I like it, but at this point I often just can't relate too much with what's in the main sections right now. The general sections of some forums are just busier it seems, and I'm not one for starting too many threads myself.
As for here, well I guess I'm the complete opposite really as I only just now started taking a peek at this part of the forum. :)

Alright, I'm gonna come out and say it. A lot of the turtle threads are..boring:tcouch:
That might be keeping me out of them lately. I think I've noticed the past couple of days, I tend not to click in them.

I can agree with that. The TV show section is people complaining about hiatuses and Nickelodeon "hating" it, and the movie section is just completely unwelcome to people who like the movie at this point.

Yeah. Nick is boring now. Actually, it's only fun when new episodes air. Whenever a hiatus happens it's just a bunch of complaining and talking about how much the show sucks. The comic section is pretty fun, but you can only say so much about the latest IDW issue. Toys and Collectibles is good, but only when new stuff is out.

Definitely agree about the Nick section being dull with no new info and people talking about the flaws of the show constantly. I admit, I don't like hiatuses either, but we have to deal with them anyway, so I just roll with the punches as best I can. And I didn't know the movie section was that harsh. I don't mind people who like the movie even though I'm not a fan of it and didn't bother to see it because of that. I just never thought one movie would divide our fanbase so much. Wow.

Totally in agreement - even saying something like "it wasn't that bad" will cause a sh!t storm if certain users catch wind of it.

In all honesty, this whole site's seemed pretty dead to me lately. But then again, that might just be because I'm comparing it to back in July when I first discovered the place, when the movie threads were absolutely swarming.

Yeah I also noticed that the Nick section hasn't really been interesting. I mean I still watch the show whenever I can and try to keep up with it, but so far it's either someone complaining about the show, or someone says basically what I'm thinking. Haven't really been in the TMNT movie section due to the recent movie haitus. I don't read the comics, so the comic section is out of option. I guess I could probably partake in the 4kids, and General TMNT discussion areas. '\(o`o)/'

Gonna quote the direct link to the MP3 again, since it's sorta hard to find in the original thread.

Yep
"Time is a valuable thing. Watch it fly by as the pendulum swings. Watch it count down to the end of the day. The clock ticks life away".
I sometimes think about how in 100 years we will all be gone and people in that time will probably be reading archived versions of forums. In a sense, future generations will have far more access to 'at the time' knowledge than we have of past events.

That's a pretty cool concept, like we're leaving a time capsule just by interacting. Hope in that time TMNT are still loved as much as ever and those fans are keeping the history intact.

Yes, exactly. I referred specifically to this forum but I was really meaning life in general. be it television, films, music, political events, news etc...future generations will be able to see what we were all thinking to a far greater extent than what we know people in colonial times were thinking, or people through the World Wars. We have access to some of what those people think, but they tend to be prominent people. Whereas in future they will be able to see what all of us random, everyday folk felt. In theory it makes for better education because they will see what even free thinkers thought, whereas many primary sources of the past are obviously propaganda filled books, speeches etc.
The common man and woman have never had the opportunity to have their views recorded in history on such a mass scale as we do now.

Been a long time since I read through a whole thread here!
I remember lurking for 3 or 4 years before finally joining up in '07, mainly so I could interact with other people my age who still loved the Turtles!
There used to be an FB group called Technodrome Members United that was fun to post in, quite a few of us "newer" big posters hung out there, actually got to kinda know each other.
Pennydreadful mentioned something about folks falling away and coming back, and there's a truth to that. Sometimes life kicks in and you find yourself not posting much, or you drop in to read a few interesting things and head out, but at some point you log in to pull up a stool to the proverbial bar and order a drink by posting.
Oh, and Krang and Shredder are pretty cool, just send a PM - they'll reply. Eventually. :)
In the end, regardless the sh*t we give each other, we all share a bond that began with the Turtles, and where there lies common ground, there is a foundation to begin or rebuild anew.
