View Full Version : Archie characters in the Nick series, is it possible and how would you feel about it?

I heard that the creators didn't want to use characters from the IDW comics in the series so i was wondering was there also an embargo against having characters from the Archie comics appear in the show as well. I hope not, i'd like to see Archie TMNT characters like Armaggon, Ninjara, and Hothead in the 2k12 series i mean the show already pulls characters from the FW and (if Hun's inclusion is any indication) the 2003 cartoon so why not comics?

There's no embargo, it's just that both creative teams (IDW & Nick) wanted to make an effort to keep their versions separate & unique that they'd be judged for their own merits rather than one doing something/someone better than the other. Granted IDW now has Pigeon Pete, but that's it for now. Anyway, I'm sure it's possible & that they'll do them justice. Snake got word from Ciro at NYCC that we'd get Armaggon at some point, so there's that. Like you, I'd love to see Hothead, too.

Isn't Mondo Gecko originally from Archie comics? He's coming soon.
Previously Michelangelo wanted to call Kirby bat Wingnut, but it was quickly shot down by Donatello.
Also Casey Jones called Tiger Claw "cat man dude" at one point, clearly referencing Katmandu.
It's entirely possible for more Archie comics stuff to be used the Nick series going forward. They agreed not to cross IDW stuff because it's still ongoing, while they don't have this limitation with Archie comics because it is no longer ongoing.

Well there may very well be a deeper meaning to the character in-story, which could be what Andrew is/was hinting at, but if the 'something more' is in reference his creation/inspiration, there's your answer.

I really think this show needs the Mighty Mutanimals (is that how you spell it?). With all the "MOTW" episodes going on it's really possible to have a large gang of them and have them band together during City At War, if this show does it with Slash, Snake Karai or Leatherhead as the leader of the team.

The figures came out circa 1990. So maybe it was before the comic appearances maybe not. Maybe you're right. I have no idea how to find about what day their figures hit shelves in 1990.
Well, Ninjara soul have an ugly duckling story relating to Shredder's mutant army. She'd be a tiny, ugly reject led to rot in Chris Bradford's old dojo. Raph meets her on a mission, and they form a bond. Eventually, "Cubbie" protects Raphael and falls into a can of mutagen. Then she undergoes secondary nutation into the Ninjara we're familiar with.

Since Minae Noji (who played Karai in the 2014 movie) was confirmed to be voicing a character in the show, i was wondering could her mystery character be Ninjara? I'm not familiar with all incarnations of TMNT so are there any other notable female Asian characters in the TMNT series besides Ninjara that her mystery character could be?

Actually, Ninjara is more then that, She was under some mind control, until the Turtles were able to break her out of it. Shes is also bad ass, who ultimately joined the Turtles in many adventures, Became romantically involved with Raph for a while.

Getting broken out of Mind Control and being enemy of Turtles- Grew up believing Shredder was her father and was enemy of the Turtles until the Turtles broke her out it.
Bad ass -Bad ass
Raph's love interest - Leo's potential love interest
Joined Turtles' side - Joined Turtles' side
Ninja - Ninja
They both fill the 'dark action girl with attitude' trope to a tee, and now knowing that Alopex is the same exact way, I'm wondering if they don't know any other way to make females interesting with out deviating from this. Maybe that's why people liked Irma. She was so normal compared to these that it made her interesting.

I'm definitely due for a TMNTA read through, it's been at least 3 years... but I'm almost positive there was no mind control going on. She was just bad for the hell of it, and enjoyed being a thief. Then one day she just randomly decided she was sorry.

Yeah, that stuff trends bore me when it comes to franchises like TMNT that get rebooted a lot. It's why Casey/April bore me as a couple. I love their arc in the Mirage books but everything after that just eats screen time. Although I did think the circumstance of their initial meeting in the IDW books was cleverly written.

Ninjara is pretty cool. But damn I'm terrified of all the furry artwork it will cause.
They should really make some female characters that aren't love interests.
It's like the writers think guys can't be friends with girls without having a crush on them.

Alot of Ninjara hate all of a sudden here :cry:How is it hate? She's just another one of those generic dark n' edgy hawt n' sexy chicks that tend to crop up everywhere in fiction. Star Wars had it's Mara Jade, Resident Evil has Alice, Underworld has Selene, Ultraviolet has Violet. They're boring. You rarely see a woman in a role other then this when she's an action star. No technical mage like abilities as with Donnie, no ugly fighter with an anger problem like Raph, no relaxed and goofy tendencies like Mikey and no leadership qualities like Leo.
It's like always seeing the buffed up un-flawed beefcake dude as the fighter and never seeing the nerd, businessman, goof, weirdo, or old military general. I share another person's sentiment when I say that I hope they just give Raph or whomever a new love interest.
One thing I do wonder about and noticed (and this is a bit odd topic) is why do they always give the male mutants any (mutant) love interest they want, but almost always give the human woman the one lone human male that stands there? Is it because they are afraid of *certain things* or is a subconscious 'We don't want one of those things touching our human women, they can have the female mutants instead." Would it still feel the same if the mutant in question had been formerly human before he gets to know the girl, or is she permanently off limits once he is mutated?

I'm probably going to regret asking this but... why?
Furries are people just like everyone else - they're not hurting anyone. We have plenty of folks on the board who enjoy anthro artwork - that doesn't mean that they want to throw Rover a bone in their free time, y'know? Most folk I've met here who enjoy anthro art don't even ID as furries anyway.
Live and let live, I say. *shrugs* I know Kris Kristofferson said everybody likes to have somebody to look down on - but as long as you're not hurting anyone else, I don't see why people shouldn't be free to enjoy what they like. People get way too hung up on hating on others just because they're different/don't like the same things. It just seems silly to me, and I've never understood it.

Remember, penny, the world only works in extremes and absolutes, now. Any guy who ever had a crush on Cheetara (or Ninjara, more to the point of topic) clearly also wants to bang the family pets, for example. Just like if you've ever had your friend's kid sit on your lap, you're a pedo. Or if a girl rides horses, she secretly craves giant horse dong. And if you think Obama is a mere figurehead, you secretly hate all black people.
So there's ALWAYS a sinister ulterior motive for everything, and if you don't think so, it just means you must be one of the REAL freaks and god only knows what you're into.

Here's a crazy and different idea, instead of turning Karai into a snake-handed snake, they should have made her a fox and *gasp* you basically have Ninjara, maybe she even calls herself that, but of course, I'm thinking, and that's a horrible thing.

'Scritching' sexualized artwork featuring anthro characters in quite ah, compromising positions, that sort of thing. And all of this with the very muddy definitions that having mutants or fantastical characters brings. And that is primarily the difficulty, not really much else.
And while it might seem not so weird to those that see it as just another fetish, to those that are on the 'outside,' it feels like a bit bordering on bestiality, especially as the idea of mutants muddles the whole thing.
For an example, can you consider attractive a mutant that was once human? Are they still considered 'human' or are they now 'animal?' And if it's a mutant that was once an animal, is 'liking' them acceptable once they became a mutant, or are they still considered an 'animal?'
It's either being a 'furry' if you like such a creature or having an attraction to something that is sentient and not an animal.

Being a grown-up who reads too many comics and watches too many cartoons, it's no surprise that some people I know are "furries". Some are open about it, some are "in the closet", so to speak, but they're all okay people. What I find in discussing things with them, is that it's often less a "bestiality" thing, and more just a predilection towards the "bizarre" or fantastical. Now, maybe some of them are lying, but I've never met anyone who was a furry who actually wanted to have sex with actual animals. I mean, I can see how an "outside" person could make the connection, and I'm sure in reality some people do, but it's the same kind of assumption as, "You're bisexual? So, what, you just want to have sex with everyone you meet, right?" Or, "You listen to Marilyn Manson? You must cut yourself and be currently planning a shooting spree." It's a pretty big leap of logic to go from one to the other, basically. In truth, most people I talk to about it just have a fetish for cartoon characters in general, many of which are drawn hyper-sexualized whether they're human or anthro or whatever else.
To me, the fact that those cartoon characters don't and can't physically exist, makes it a harmless fetish. Someone who hates clowns would think a person who gets off on clown porn is "sick". Isn't it their business entirely, though? Like, who asked? And whether a person has a thing for Jessica Rabbit, or Lola Bunny, it's a cartoon character either way, so isn't the rest just splitting hairs? They physically can never act on it, after all.
I don't know. I think people freak out too much over that stuff. And there's always a lot of, "You like (X), so you must secretly like (Y), which is never good. Maybe I'm just sensitive to it because I see a lot of otherwise "normal" people get "branded" because they have a kink, and not gonna lie, it bothers me. Who they hurtin'?
More to the topic, though, to me, Raphael's relationship with Ninjara was the only time he's ever been interesting, because it gave him some depth beyond "Angry For No Real Reason" all the time, so I liked it. I thought some of it could've been done better, but that's the entire Archie series in a nutshell. "Pretty good, better than some, could've been better." I thought her character was one of the more creative ideas to come out of that series. Not sure if I'd want to see her on the Nick show, I'm not a huge fan of how they present their characters. Could be okay, could be crummy.

I don't really give two buffs of wax on a shell what people are into, it's that the vocal majority want to shove their animal-man lust down other people's throats. You make a post on _________ & the next guy is like MMM DAT ALOPEX BOOTY. ROSS CAMPBELL DRAWS HER HIPS SO THICK I JUST WANNA *******!@#$%^%$#@#&^%!***
THAT is why I take issue with appeasing their sensibilities. I don't wanna read anybody's fantasies, period, let alone about animal folk.

 I'm honestly not in the cartoon/comics section often enough to notice, I guess, so I'll take your word for it. I can see how that would be a bit annoying after a while.
I guess it's kinda like if I'm having a group convo about razzlin', and there's always one or two chicks who just wanna drool over Randy Orton's abs and nothing else.

It's not really a problem on the drome, it's other parts of the internet.

Avoid deviantart at all costs. I hate the fact that they try to turn Pokemon (the actual Pokemon, not the human characters), into sex objects.
Although GameFreak may be to blame with designs like Gardevoir and Lopunny.

They're not human or animal - they're mutant. That's like saying that it's ok to be attracted to Wolverine because he can pass for human, but it's wrong for someone to be attracted to Nightcrawler because he can't pass for human and has fur.
I... look, I know I'm weird - it's a matter of public record. But I really don't get how looking at the boobs of a made-up fictional character from a species that doesn't exist in reality is a problem. Anthropomorphism is literally the attribution of human form or characteristics to non-human creatures. Putting human gender signifiers (like boobs) onto a fox-lady is what makes someone think that aforementioned fox-lady is hot. Someone enjoying adult anthro artwork isn't bestiality, any more than a guy getting turned on by his adult girlfriend wearing a schoolgirl outfit is paedophilia.
Everyone has different things that they're into or not into; I'm not here to say that if someone doesn't like looking at pics of smexy foxgirls, they're wrong.
I'm just of the opinion that if something crops up on Deviantart that you don't like, just click the back button and move on with your life. We don't all have to be into the same stuff - but as long as they're not hurting anyone else, I don't see why everybody shouldn't be free to follow pursuits that they enjoy. I genuinely don't get why people care so much.
