View Full Version : The best actor to play Casey Jones in sequel?

If Casey Jones appeared in the next movie, who is the best actor that you believe would be suited for the role.
It's gotta be the best love interest for April to have and best partner for Raph.
Someone who has skilled acting ability and combat technique.

Ewww those are terrible choices Bahston, no offense bro.
And I think the "No Evans" remark comes from people's tendency to take the lead actor from Recent Popular Movie In The Genre and plug them into every single movie that comes out.
No clue, personally. I'd kinda rather see a lesser-known guy but that's not how this company rolls.
Part of me thinks/fears that stupid internet video with John Morrison was actually a back door audition tape. I... think they might actually do that. If so, double-F*** that movie.

For this version, Channing Tatum, he's actually a pretty good actor (I think he's gotten better over the years anyway...), he's funny charming, can play the slightly dumb version of Casey and can match Raph Hulk.

I've been hearing people blindly throw his name around for the past 7 years on here, because they liked his largely forgettable turn voicing CJ in "TMNT".
Then again, it just might take Captain ****ing America in a hockey mask to tangle with these turtles.

Since everyone is mentioning wrestlers, I think Seth Rollins most looks like him. He isn't bad on the mic, either, which translates into being a decent actor most likely.

Aaron Paul. He's a good actor. He'd bring the same edge Koteas brought. He's relatable but can also seem a bit crazy. He & Fox could have chemistry. He's popular. He's not a predictable choice but still realistic. If Cranston could do Godzilla, Paul could do Turtles. As I said before though, it'll probably be someone safe & dull like Liam Hemsworth.

Not to be a buzz kill but does it matter who's best to play what role if the script is still bad? Will Arnett was the best choice for Vernon and it still didn't do anything for what end up being on screen.
How good actor can be to work a crappy script? That's a rare gift.

That's what I'm saying; he could single-handedly elevate this thing. When he plays anger or someone in danger, you believe it. When he's funny, he's f*ckin funny. He's so good it could rub off on Fox or at least force her to up her game
i think it might be mark wahlberg looks like his hair is getting longer lol
He just said recently he thinks he's doing another Transformers "soon" (he also said this smiling, meaning he's fine with doing another Age Of Extinction. I don't get it lol)
Leo656
12-21-2014, 08:26 PM
Punk and Wahlberg are both way too old for what they're going for. Although Punk would be interesting. But that wouldn't happen just because of the age, and his tattoos are too distracting. Covering them up would be a huge hassle on the part of the studio. Not that they wouldn't or couldn't do that, they likely wouldn't want to unless they absolutely had no better choices.
Think actors in their mid/late 20s.

Not really Arnett's fault. He did the best he could with Vern, which isn't a great character to begin with.
And Transformers 4 is a hard film to be on board with (even on a guilty pleasure basis). John Goodman's trigger-happy Autobot was the only thing I didn't find painful.

not try to start any thing But have any of you even thought that they might(i know you dont think they will) fix things? what happens if the sequel really does build upon the movieVerse in a very positive way. And one way to do that is to get good actors. Heck anything could happen( i understand many of you dont think it would ever happen)
But im just saying.
What happens when they just make a Miracle(in your eyes) and knock the screen play out of the park. lets say the modify the turtle enough to please most. what happens if Megan pulls it out of her ass and surprises you all. What if everything just clicks with this next movie. then what?
I understand you all think that is impossible

A few of my coworkers are pretty big wrestling fans. They mentioned a recent podcast interview with CM Punk where he mentioned that WWE was one of the other companies considering a TMNT buyout, pre-Nick. They were apparently after it for the movie deal, and eyeing CM Punk as Casey.

I too heard he was interested a week or two ago, through a friend who loves wrestling, but I was unaware of the WWE's interest in buying the property. Huh! That would have been terrible. I wonder who else was eyeballing the TMNT. I myself am not a fan of wrestling, I just happen to know of CM Punk & feel he'd both look the part & carry the role, as the character is not unlike his on-stage persona, from what I've seen.

Theroux is a pretty solid actor, but I'm guessing the production will be casting younger for Casey. Probably 25-30. There's not a chance in hell it'll happen, but here is my pick, simply for how entertaining the fan backlash would be.

Doesn't necessarily have to have the accent, buuut- he did do quite a few different accents in his role on Leverage- heck, they ALL did. He played it "nerdy" a couple of times, an over-the-top Southern drawl, and a German one, among others.

Uh... Punk IS an actor, just not in movies. C'mon dude, kayfabe is dead.
His ability to actually deliver lines and make you believe them, and feel emotion when he says something powerful, and the fact that every time he says/does anything at all, people go into a frenzy for MONTHS over whether it was "a work" or "a shoot", and the fact he's gotten fans who know perfectly well it's scripted to nearly assault him with physical violence, actually means, he's already a much BETTER actor than most. Not just most wrestlers, I mean most actors.
He'd be fine as a "real" actor if that's what he wanted to do, I just don't think he's entirely right for this. I mean, yeah, he could be. I'd be down. I just don't think it's actually a realistic choice. But hey, why not?

It's about delivery and charisma. Punk excels at both. Acting is Acting. Anybody can read lines. Not everyone can make you care. Just because wrestling is more Improv than anything else doesn't mean it's an entirely different thing. It's Still Acting. You still need to make people believe what you're saying when they know it's 100% bullsh*t.
Nice attempt. Shane's not a great actor. He has good delivery in that "worked-shoot" type of environment, but when it's scripted and forced, you can tell, and that's part of why he couldn't get over outside of ECW. He's one of my favorites, but no, when it's "fake" with him you can completely tell. He's a great worker and a great promo in specific places and I love him forever but no, Not A Good Actor.

I heard the podcast a few weeks ago, he said the WWE wouldn't let him go do cool stuff, and now he's a free agent so if someone wants him to be in a movie *cough cough* TMNT...as Casey Jones, he's ready.
Also, a few weeks after leaving WWE he did a wrestling podcast with some guys at Nerdist, they avoided asking why he left, but brought up that he'd be the perfect Casey Jones, he said he's heard that a lot and agrees. I personally tweeted at him years ago that he would be a great Casey Jones, and I am not alone in that thinking.
He has the look, loves TMNT, has the dry humor, and can pull off looking like he can kick some ass.
Unfortunately he signed a multi fight deal with UFC 2 weeks ago, I doubt he'll have time to film a movie, unless it was maybe a small role or a stinger at the end of the sequel to set up the 3rd movie.
I can't think of anyone else good enough to play the role, but if we're talking wrestlers, someone else mentioned Seth Rollins, he definitely has the look. Dean Ambrose fits the bill as well.
Maybe Jai Courtney, Garrett Hedlund, Nicholas Hoult, Jeremy Allen White, Taylor Kitsch, Norman Reedus...I could see the studio wanting guys like Miles Teller, or Zac Efron, Liam Hemsworth etc...

Elias plays on Chicago, P.D. now and I read in an article on Yahoo when as the new movie was coming out that he's too old to reprise his role as Casey but that he was grateful he had the opportunity to play that character. He even said his cast mates remember the movie and talk about it with him, which is cool. I can see some of Casey Jones in his character, Alvin Ollinsky, especially in the one episode where his daughter was involved and he got angry. I said, "Uh-oh, he's going all Casey Jones on this guy."

We're probably either going to get a recognizable actor that we love or a recognizable actor that we don't. May not be a big name, a-lister, but I guarantee we'll recognize him from a movie or show.
But I get what you're saying and wouldn't mind seeing a newb with potential show up. But something tells me, we'll be seeing another Megan Fox situation.

Aaron Paul doesn't have enough of that rambunctious/rebellious persona to really pull Casey off. Doesn't seem to have the voice for it, either. (I could be proven wrong, though...who knows.)

Any wrestling actor would be a huge mistake IMO. Let's not get away from the ninja aspect, it is a little important. :tlol:The last thing a turtles movie needs are more beefcakes. Also, if I see anything that resembles an arm bar I'm going to be pissed. I would like to see a no-name actor but I have a feeling princess Fox would not be down with that.
Leo656
12-26-2014, 02:21 PM
No, it wouldn't be a mistake, for a few reasons:
Firstly, it's obvious that "acting ability" isn't the focus in these movies. Whoever gets the Casey job is either going to be a Friend Of Bay, or someone who already has "The Look". "The Look" meaning, especially in THIS film's universe, someone who could conceivably stand toe-to-toe with the Turtles or their enemies. Thus, they gotta be Jacked.
If they pick some no-name who has "a face" but no body, they're going to have to get him on the gas and waste a few months letting him put the size on anyways. And that face will probably be behind a hockey mask for half the movie anyways, so the body is more important.
If they pick a wrestler or another athlete, they already have "The Look". Wrestlers can act better than most athletes, that's why they're wrestlers. All they'd be doing by casting a wrestler is taking a shortcut to the end result they really want, anyway. They just need a guy who's Jacked to deliver action-movie one-liners and hit people with foreign objects. It's like casting anyone BUT a wrestler would be a "mistake".
My buddy Johnny Carino/Johnny Knockout would be perfect but he's only about 6' tall and he cut his hair a while ago, but otherwise he'd be perfect and he's already from NY.

You seem a bit biased on this subject. You are right though, with acting ability not a priority, most wrestling actors would fit right in. I see your point about achieving the look and being behind a mask. It's just too bad a TMNT movie has reached this point. I don't think the 2014 movie is as bad as some people are saying, there's just a lot of room for improvement. No matter what the movie franchise contains, the addition of wrestler actors is shying away from recovery. In my own opinion, of course.
Leo656
12-26-2014, 03:28 PM
Not quite biased, just more "It's common sense". If it were an acting role, get an actor. This series has no room for that, and Casey is a one-note joke in most TMNT media anyway. You just need a guy with sculpted delts to look good in a tank top and bark one-liners. Get a wrestler, save yourself a lot of time and frustration.
I mean, would it be nice if they were making a "real" movie and could get "real" actors? Sure, but they're not, and they're not.
BubblyShell22

A wrestler would make sense not only in looks but fighting ability. If they do get a wrestler it doesn't necessarily have to be anyone from WWE and could be someone from the indy circuit.

I certainly don't see a troll here. He's definitely stating what he thinks will happen, and I agree with that if they're going the route they did with the Turtles for Casey.

I don't think there's any way they would get a big name for Casey Jones. Most of the ones listed there are already a part of other franchises anyway. If Casey Jones is in this movie they'll probably get someone relatively unknown and/or cheap.

Christopher Meloni, despite the fact he looks a lot like Elias KorTeas. Screw the love interest for April, never once has that been genuine to me, in any iteration. Play him as older, with a massive chip on his shoulder. Sometime who had been in the game awhile, who has lost something, and is sick of how the law had consistently failed him. Think Punisher, with less killing. I don't see any reason why he's gotta be played as around the Turtles age.

01-31-2015, 05:59 AM
Well the Will Arnett thing would seem to denote that they don't intend on having April's partners (romantic or otherwise) be young or even anywhere near her age. Just watched the trailer for Lost In The Sun which reminded me Josh Duhamel may well be on the shortlist as we speak.
http://i905.photobucket.com/albums/ac252/benman011/lostinthesun.jpg
He's a fellow Transformers alumni, one that's had nothing but positive things to say about his experience with those films. I've had girl mates who've watched those films & said they wished Fox's character would run off with Duhamel instead of LaBeouf  He's younger than Arnett. He's tall (could meet Raphael face-to-face). He's down-to-earth & likable but can also be dangerous & intimidating if he wants (watch Scenic Route). I'd be suprised if he's not at least rumored.

Actually I'm in complete agreement with Amaranthus (assuming he wasn't being sarcastic and that I didn't pick up on it); there's no real reason that Casey couldn't be played by a black actor and it could bring something new and interesting to the character. It's not like Casey's whiteness has ever been an integral driving force in shaping his character, personality, motivation or upbringing, so I don't see what difference increasing his melanin levels would make in the grand scheme of things. Besides - Bayturtles is already pretty awful (IMO), so I don't see how trying something new could make it any worse.

My personal vote would be for Channing Tatum.
He's not the most talented actor of course, but he has the body, the could be personally interested in the project, he's done 21 Jump St reboot mixing both action and comedy, AND he could be the kind of actor Bay would like for the movie.
From the ones mentioned by other people here, I agree with Chris Pratt but don't think Paramount could pay him, Josh Duhamel is a very interesting candidate and I think he could to the role but is lacking the "bad boy" ingredient and Chris Klein, who let's not forget was involved in Street Fighter: The Legend, is an option I would never have thought about but could get the job done without making the movie worse.

Honestly if they were just gonna cast a dude based on looks I'd honestly just give it to Morrison. I never cared much for him but he's jacked and could do his own stunts, which would save a few bucks. His vocal delivery kind of sucks but seriously, that's not really a concern for this project. Especially if they decided to play him more like OT Casey and have him with a screw or two hanging loose.
Plus, he hasn't done anything in a long time so he'd probably work for peanuts. Or protein shakes. Or ab lotion.

Personally I... don't see why we couldn't have Corey Feldman as Casey. An older, jacked-out, worn-down Casey. We've got enough people drooling over Fox O'Neil in this incarnation as it is - Feldman is still young enough to believably beat someone up with a baseball bat, but old enough that it could give us a break from the leg-humping.
Plus it would be a nice nod to past incarnations - for my part, it'd certainly engender some goodwill and it's something that might actually get me to watch the second one.

Eh, I'm down with a female Casey, male Casey, black Casey, hispanic Casey - as long as it's done well, it really doesn't phase me. But that's the crux of the matter - this movie hasn't executed change well and as such, I don't want to see Fox as Casey any more than I want to see her as April.

Casey should be a women. I mean, it's the only way to make up for the lack of April in the first movie. Am I right?
I disagree. I want to see a casey like in the IDW comics. They could just recast April.they did that in the original Movie series and no body cared.

There are a few drawings on Dev art where the turtles were depicted as females, and to be honest, they're really well done. And that's the crux, it needs to be well done.
I do feel though that, before a film series goes of into variations of the source, it should at least get the source right first (1990 doesn't count). Movies have a tendency to become the official cannon in the general populations mind. Sometimes it even happens in telivision, as evidenced by the OT, for better or worse.
While Elias Koteas was fun, he wasn't really the Casey of the comics. I'd like to see that character, unaltered, on screen at least once.
Of course, again, considering how off kilter everything else is, it would almost be a waste.
Deep down, I'm dreading the worst - Vern becomes Casey. If that happens I might sue PD for emotional distress.

There you go. They could have song and dance numbers. The 4 turtles could be cancer patients going through chemo so they are bald and green still and shredder can be an evil surgeon who has an obsession with knives and loves cutting patients open. Also, April Oneal could be a young nurse or intern and Splinter can be a wise old janitor.

Keanu Reeves should play Casey Jones.
His backstory would be told in the film that April O'Neil had a childhood friend who spent most of his time in youth baseball, hockey leagues. He got in a lot a trouble as a kid protecting April from bullies. He was then forced by his father to join the high school golf team to keep out of trouble. He left home at age 16 and his father (Jeff Bridges) was so heart broken that he signed up as a subject for human testing on the mutagen. April's dad mutated Casey's father (Jeff Bridges) crossing him with a baby warthog into Subject: Bebop. The other human subject being tested on in the background was none other than (Mickey Rourke) "think Marv from Sin City". He was cross-mutated with a rhinoceros baby and transformed into Subject: Rocksteady. As the mutants became ashamed by their transformation they broke out of the testing facility and caused the fire that killed April's father. Casey finds out later, learning his father is a mutant and vows to put an end to his father using the very weapons his father gave him.
Yeah Yeah, I know there's many plot holes here but that's how Michael Bay likes it. As these will be addressed in film 3 where Krang will be introduced and played by Hornswaggle. and voiced by Gilbert Gottfried.

Character limit doesn't permit the full story.
In brief: Once choked a female reporter for asking a question he didn't like back when he was playing college football. Blew his knee out, and begged his Daddy for a job with the WWF since couldn't play football anymore. Leapfrogged thousands of more talented people who had been training for years and got put on TV based on family connections, with almost no training and very little experience. Was pushed down everyone's throats despite being AWFUL, despite fans literally begging for him to be fired. Got hurt, and instead of being fired like anyone else in his position, kept his job and got an even BIGGER push because, once again, Daddy cried to management for him. Never improved one bit in the ring, and in fact, his entire style is the exact opposite of how people are trained to wrestle (this is now getting into things nobody would understand unless they were in the business). Only began to get "popular" once fans realized he was never going away. Only got popular at all based on his mic "skills", which were 100% based on calling everyone gay, telling them they were worthless, etc. (again, all things you are specifically Told Not To Say About People and that people have been fired or at least reprimanded for) and basically pandering to 12-year-old boys. Finally, once people realized he was never going away, they "embraced" him, despite those same exact people chanting "Die, Rocky, Die" not even two years earlier and him not actually having changed one bit to deserve his newfound affection.
Basically, he got famous by doing things other people get fired for, got/kept a job b/c his Daddy played the race card with management, and is the ultimate example of an entirely corporate creation, people in suits saying "People Will Like What We TELL Them To Like." There is absolutely no reason for him to be the biggest star in the world, and everything he does is terrible.
That's as brief as I can make it. He's basically Everything Wrong With The World wrapped up in one person.

It would be awesome, he would still basically be the same character, but I feel like an older Casey would bring something more as a Turtles ally. I don't feel like Casey's age really matters too much, or affects how he would associate with the Turtles, when it comes down to it. He would be this buff vigilante who has actual 80s experience to bring to the movie universe. Casey Jones moving closer to Charles Bronson on the scale. Koteas has the charisma to still make him a romantic interest for April too...I'm having trouble thinking of the right "cover job" for his day life, but I could see Casey doing sportscasting at Channel 6 maybe? That would put him into "competition" with Vernon at least...
I could see it now, a brief scene with his sportscast early in the movie, then later, while April's leaving work, some teenage punks start screwing with her in the parking lot. Things are starting to look pretty bad when one of them suddenly goes down in the shadows. April thinks it's the turtles when an unfamiliar voice taunts: "ya little pukes..." and a beating ensues. Later, he'd get revealed "for real" in a throwback-style encounter with Raph, and join up with the turtles against whatever antagonist Michael Bay craps out (unless he wants to pay me. I mean, this is obviously the hot **** right here, :p haha...)

1. The rest of the world gives not a single **** that tmnt 2 is happening,
2. This is by far, the strangest casting call you've made yet.
You could easily do a youtube series of "my cast for - x" and generate a huge amount of interest.

Well, kid-audience aside (who are gonna see it, especially with no competition that week), I wouldn't say theres a huge demand out there for a sequel, more of a curious interest in what other characters will get the movie treatment (kind of comparable to The Expendables - no-one was dying for a second film like that, they just wanted to see who gets added to the franchise). Big reason why I don't see this MeganFox/Turtles series lasting longer than two films.
2. This is by far, the strangest casting call you've made yet.
Aaron Paul, Josh Duhamel, Cam Gigandet & Andy Samberg aren't that off-the-wall (ok Samberg maybe). Especially when the names of wrestlers & A-listers who wouldn't go near this are being mentioned. Also, weren't you gonna add your fan cast like 2 months ago?

I thought about that, but it's not really the right casting...I love him in everything, and it would be a nod to the 1990 film, but, he's not really "Jones".
Casey is a bruiser, and a jock and a chauvinist- not sure they can ever do that type again though. The Casey Jones character (1990 film) is basically a Douche-bag in today's world.
For me, it's always about type casting, and looking the part is very important, for me. I know some will argue it's about "acting" but fan-casting is fan-casting, so, what eves.
It's really too bad that Jason Momoa is playing Aquaman. He's completely miscast. He would have been the right "type" to play Lobo, or even...Casey Jones. Joe Manganiello has a similar look, but doesn't seem as intense somehow, (possibly just what I've seen them in coloring my perception). I don't know if either have ever played a "witty' character, or if they would be convincing...but physically, that's what I'd be looking for in any actor for the role. A dark featured, hyper masculine guy, with an edge.
He's not, to me at least, Adam Samberg, some jewish comic with a golf-bag and terrible one-liners. He's not some tattooed wrestler, or a trained MMA fighter. He could be re-written to be that, but that's not who I see in my head when I think Casey Jones. I think "crazy" but with a touch of wit, who might be good in a fight, but not "trained". He's just a dog that's been beaten one too many times. I think he could be almost as crazy as Tuco in Better call Saul's second episode, but physically imposing on top of deranged.
I can't really pin it down, but if you mixed John McClane, Rambo and Schwarzenegger into one guy, you'd be close. A walking 80's stereotype of the male hero.
Then again, I don't think Megan Fox when I think April, so... meh?

He's also not really a tough guy...jones should be manly, not boyish.

Would it be a bit odd if I said Casey Jones should be played by Hugh Jackman?
I mean he played roles of characters that were edgy before and he's 46 but he looks like he's in his late 30's to me. Assuming Casey is gonna be an adult of course. If it's a teenager then I would say Logan Lerman is actually a good idea.

Fair enough, fan-casting is fan-casting. I just don't see it is all, but I can't argue opinion.
I think some people look for people they like when suggesting actors, not who would be the best fit. I think Henry cavil is a strong actor, but he's not my choice for Superman, even if he somewhat looks the part. Amy Adams is a fantastic actress, but not really Lois Lane, in my head.
Dwayne Johnson is a terrible actor (most of the time), he's really cheesey, but he is absolutely the best well known actor to play He-Man. I don't like him, and I don't like his movies, but in a blonde wig, with his cornball acting, it's a clear choice.

BUT, he's a terrible idea for Casey Jones. He just isn't that guy, and I don't trust him, as an actor, to convince me he's that guy.

:tlol: Actually, what about him as Baxter Stockman? Or Peter Dinklage?

If William Finchtner can be the Shredder, Dwayne Johnson can be Casey Jones. Believe me, I'm not saying he's ideal for the role. But given the precedence of the 2014 film... this actually wouldn't bother me.
And if you think The Rock is always cheesy, watch "Snitch." The man has SERIOUS talent.

I actually want to see Jon Bernthal as Casey, he's built right for it, could probably do a decent Brooklyn accent and has the usual tan/dark hair combo Casey had in the 2003 series. He's 38, but honestly him being that age worked, I always figured the Mirage Casey was in his thirties anyway.

Give the man a hockey mask and he's basically there.

They should get Vin Diesel to play a really dumb Casey.
"I AM CASEY JONES" is the one line he'll repeat throughout the entire film.

How about Logan Lerman?
I thought he was really good in his role as Percy Jackson and with the right Make-up he would be a great as Casey (I think :P).
I'd rather he be Spider-Man, even though he probably wont get the job, again.

How about Jared Padalecki?
Or Ryan Hansen if you're going for the big dumb idiot route.

If you think the rock isn't cheeses, then you, yourself must be cheesey.
No dude, he's not Casey Jones.
