View Full Version : Things that didn't make sense

Every show has flaws, and so does TMNT 2012.
So let's post some things that didn't make sense (apart from the obvious stuff such as aliens and mutants).
Leatherhead could breathe in Dimension X. Why couldn't the turtles?
Isn't it extremely inconvenient for the Kraang in Dimension X to communicate with the Kraang that are on Earth? Given the fact that there's a massive difference in time flow.
Bradford is a famous martial artist, but he hasn't appeared anywhere in public due to his mutation. Why is no-one addressing his disappearance?
I'm sure you guys found some flaws as well.

Now, not complaining because they don't bug me all that much and just find them a little ironic, but some that come to mind...

You didn't know what pizza is despite having tv.
Similar to Bradford there is apparently no one who cares that Timothy went missing.
Ice Cream Kitty never runs out of Ice Cream. She's like a never ending soft serve dispenser. :)
So far up to this point an entire lack of any concern for NYC, Splinter, etc.
Mutagen meds only make Leo barf, even though it's still capable of mutating things and enliven a car.

Donnie giving his brother mutagen when he's seen what can go wrong with it.

The guys not knowing about pizza is a big one.

No one noticing Timothy's gone. Shouldn't his parents be worried?

Having Donnie being the leader of the group at the finally. And yet when Leo wakes up that is completely forgotten.

I agree if they should have more concern about the city, or should have had a visits to scope out the state of the city. If it was said the city was under strict government quarantean then that would have been a plausable reason why they were hanging around the farm house for three months.

Bradford is a famous martial artist and yet nobody in the news mentions him missing. However there was a magazine in the Dream Beavers episode that had his name, and it looked like it was qouting him or something. Maybe it might be him saying what has been going on with him or the city? I don't know how to zoom in without making it blurry.

Another one is with Shredder's mutants going on as if mutation was the most horrible thing in the world, yet referring to themselves as that creature later (dog, fish, etc.) and acting like it too. If you hated being such a creature, why are you acting like it and calling yourself by it?

Oh god there's quite a lot to be honest:

Why is Casey's competence inconsistant?
Why don't people trust Mikey after multiple episodes of learning to trust Mikey?
Why are there Ninja wars in modern times?
What's up with the Kraang's plans half the time?
Why are there two explainations for why the Kraang need April to complete the mutagen?

And is it just me or does seem like there are some contradictions in the Yoshi/Saki backstory?

I've tried to avoid wondering about that. :toops: (Esp when Mikey rubs Leo's comic on his "butt" and claims he'd be using it as toilet paper to try to make Leo snap out of it... Think that's brought the 'issue' to my attention in the first place.) This is why we can't have nice things and you end up forced to wear pants in movies. lol

No. Most schools, especially NYC schools, have metal detectors at the main entrances, and some might have been questioning if Irma was a robot the whole time, how come she never set the alarms off. I myself am in the group who think the real Irma was there until shortly after the Rat King episode. But then again, there was that one robot in the shool disguised as a teacher. She never set off any metal detectors.

If I recall I think she told April she was with/from the "World Wide Genome Project" so not sure she was pretending to be a teacher. And seemed to be after/off school hours (April why are you even there at that time?) so prob easier to find a way to avoid or deactivate metal detectors. Irma though, that's a really good point. Kinda hard to fake it surrounded by students if you're made of metal.

Well the Turtles set off the metal detectors when they came in with their weapons. Donnie points out in rise of the Turtles that the Kraang use a metal alloy he didn't recognize. So it is plausable that Kraang tech uses a metal substance that metal detectors wouldn't recognize as metal.

What was the point of Joss O'Neil, (Yes, I know his name is Kirby, but he looks just like Joss Whedon) being cured of his mutation if they were just going to mutate him again in the Season 2 finale?

Why didn't the Kraang try following the turtles from New York to make sure they don't foil their invasion plan again?

Not really a flaw, but a question : Has the Dark Raph story line been confirmed in the show?

What have the Foot Clan been up to during the invasion?

I think it because the staff of writers keep changing which means nothing will ever be set in stone. It's the same problem in the comic continuity.

Which means nothing will ever progress.:(

I just thought it was meant to be a joke, April even says "not again".

I think mainly the creative team in general have no idea what to do with Kirby to be honest. The main reason April started to hang out with the turtles was because they could rescue him from the Kraang, which was resolved by the end of season 1, but if Kirby runs around freely that means April won't have much of a reason to hang out with the turtles as much as before.

That probably lead to panic which resulted the turtles' "new" reason to make sure April and her dad will be together again... Which they caused... And was then replaced by basically the same reason...

Look I don't think April would have stopped to hang out with the turtles entirely, but the reason she is so close to them is essentially gone if Kirby is around, which could lead to one of two scenarios:

She is slowly forgotten about by the writers and gets unintentionally phased out.
She sticks around but is essentially a relic, an obsolete character that sticks around only for the status quo.

I get where your coming from.

But still if you had been raised your whole life thinking you had been human, and then learning you are actually an alien/human hybrid created by the vary aliens who are gunning for your life. That would be a hard thing to process. And the Turtles have been letting her grasp that bit of insite at her own pace rather then forcing the issue.

They do give some nods to it through her psychic senses, but when Casey asks April how she's able to sense things. She just lamely says that she's special.

And in a foot to big, people mistake Raph's comment to Donnie. Raph just says "April is a girl, you're a giant mutant turtle." He doesn't say human, but Raph didn't need to point out April as a human. Particularly since she is one to the rest of the world.

Still with the whole April's a mutant thing. How could April have Kraang DNA in her blood stream and have it not be noticed by doctors.

We only have enough anti-mutagen for two people. Omg we only have enough for one person! Yay, cured him with a single drop! Wut? lol

I don't get dimension X.....it's whole existence in this version confuses me....

I mean....are there other Kraang (that are just civilians) living in Dimension X?? Why are they going around making more Dimension X's?? Why is time so weird there??? Is it a hassle to communicate between the Kraang on earth and the Kraang in Dimension X because of the time difference?? Do Kraang even age??

What the heck is the point of having some wacky messed up world with weird time rules? If I were the Kraang I'd be happy with the way Earth is now and just live there normally in my robot body.

The car more then likely have DNA from it's owner and whatever Roadkill it had gone over. But you can just chalk it up to the mutagen being unpredictable.

--How did that goddamn chicken become so smart?

Chicken goes into barn, knocks over mutagenic fuel. Drinks some of the fuel thinking it's food. Since Donnie has a lab in the barn the mutagenic fuel could have combined with some of Donnie's DNA and created a smart chicken. But again chalk it up to the mutagen being unpredictable.

---No way in hell was the man awake for years.

I agree. Bernie the grocer realisticly would have died of heart failure a long time ago if he wasn't sleeping. Though there is one person in vietnam who claims he hasn't slept since 1973 and is health isn't effected. And this apparently has been confirmed by doctors. But in general an average person risks death by going 4-7 days without sleep.

-Why didn't the Kraang use the Technodrome in the second invasion? It's obviously a pretty powerful weapon.

The technodrome has already been used once that season. In that one episode where Raph was mind swapped with a Kraang so. So if it was used in the finally it would lack anything of interest. If it comes out of where it sits at the bottom of the bay as an end to finally to the Kraang plot for the series in general or at least for the next few seasons before the Kraang become a threat once again. That would be another story.

-Why haven't the cops cracked down on the Foot or at least noticed it?

The Kraang have infultrated the police so they are probably covering up some things. But Shredder is also has ties to the underground thugs and slime of the street. It wouldn't be far beyond him to spred a little money around to get the police to look the other way.

-Why do the writers have Casey and Donnie make up, and then they're back to their old rivalry again?

The two of them are frienemies. Rob Paulsen himself even discribes their relationship as adversarial in one interview. So yeah the two of them are friends and would openly admit the other is a good guy to know and have their uses during missions. But when it comes to April, they both wish the other would just take a one way trip to the moon. But can't because they both need each other to help.

That makes little sense, though. They can mutate the heck out of the planet's life, but that wouldn't change it's physics! You can't mutate gravity or energy or basic composition of an entire planet (and its surrounding solar system, galaxy, etc) for instance.

I'd generally agree, but sleep IS a bit overrated. Pretty sure I haven't actually "slept" more than a couple of weeks total in my entire life. Mostly, I just close my eyes and listen to the dark for hours on end....

Indeed. I am no scientist but I am willing to bet that the requirement to change the physics of mutagen so that it can work as intended is the same to change the physics: e.i gravity or energy of our dimension.

I don't believe that April's dna is the single requirement to perfect mutagen. It just hardest ingredient to come by but it possible one of other requirements which are easier to come by for them is dark matter or something along those lines.

Again I am not a scientist, I am just a graphic designer but you would probably need a fine understanding of quantum physics to change mutagen and if you can do that then changing gravity or quantum gravity would be a cake walk.

For an entire dimension??!! That's just stretching believability too far. Earth doesn't just exist in a bubble of it's own laws of nature- it's part of a far larger and more complex system with interconnecting parts that work the way they do because of certain universal rules. Mutating the life-forms on a single planet would change that AT ALL. It wouldn't do anything but make the Earth into a planet-sized rock with Dimension X life on it. But the physics would remain the same- unless they wanted to risk it ending up pulled into the sun or some other disaster. Earth's atmosphere isn't the only thing that they'd have to change- they'd have to change the entire atomic structure and laws of quantum mechanics of the planet- if they even COULD. To do that, they'd have to pull a "Krang" from the OT and DRAG Earth into Dimension X! (Which would actually make more sense if they wanted it as a second home.) Hmmm, maybe that would have been a better plan for them to attempt.

Well... I mean the turtles have been in upstate New York for like... what over 3 months now at least? Apparently the Krang suck at invading in the first place if the turtles have yet to see seen any giant war of the world walkers skulking by krang-a-tizing the populous.

Are they all ignoring the news or do they just not get that channel? I have to kinda laugh about that, not that I'm complaining about the new season. It's still entertaining, even if the "ignore the problem long enough and apparently it will cease to exist" seemed to work in their predicament.

I'm assuming it's the writers way to explain to little kids they are teenagers in mourning dealing with it by ignoring reality. Eventually, I'm expecting this season will have an abrupt reality slap... I'm just waiting for it.

It still jarring to me. M night sham la ding dong had a better idea of how people act during an alien invasion. The way they are reacting at this point is stepford smile level of creepy!

I think that's where Yoshi got the nickname "Splinter" from, since in this version he is human and the Turtles didn't nickname him like in the original toon, so "Splinter" had to be a nickname from the war I guess.

They never did go into that yet, hopefully they haven't forgotten about it and we get another flashback.

But maybe not so much a war as they were just part of the military.

It would be interesting if in their world, instead of ceasing to exist during the Meji Restoration, many modern ninjas are now part of the Japanese military and are fighting for their country rather then for their individual samurai war lords against each other.

If this is true then where would the Hamato clan and the foot clan fit in a unified country like Japan? Are both clans really just families of hired mercenaries or maybe the Hamato clan have evolve to become generation after generation of Japanese military army men since World War II.

Doubt so. It was just an unknown chemical that appears the same color as retromutagen. If he had the real working one he would have demutated himself right away. Plus he never had the key ingredient (April's DNA) so I'd say no.

Okay. It's just that there were people online, and I think some of on this forum too, had rationalize that the reason why she can switch back between human and snake was because he accidentally slip some retromutagen in the snake dna viral.

For the sake of sanity, I want to go along with your explanation because I don't know how much longer I stand this amount of plot amnesia. It just...hurts...my brain...so much.http://i.imgur.com/f5V7ijg.gif

I suppose you mean vial not viral.

You can still stick to the headcanon that the unknown chemical was what caused Karai to be able to shape-shift. It could very well be everything the working retromutagen is, except the April's DNA part, which stabilizes the demutation process. Without that, the mutation/demutation cycle becomes unstable, resulting in uncontrollable shape-shifting.

Hopefully Karai eventually learns how to control her form and can transform at will (à la Hulk in The Avengers), and maybe, the only way for her to fully restore to her human form (permanently) is having April to sacrifice her "phoenix" power, returning both half-mutants to pure human. This could be still far away though (probably series finale?), or I'm simply thinking too much at this point :trazz:

I don't know, just something that came across my mind, I haven't really thought of the details. Maybe she had to mind-blast one last time, draining out all her powers, and only that final blast is enough to demutate all the mutated cells in Karai.

Actually the details aren't that important, and it's just a speculation anyway. I just thought it would be cool for April to sacrifice something big to help out Karai one day.

Well....I had an idea of giving her a weakness of radio jamming base on a theory that her telepathy is electromagnetic base.

Radio Jamming

in electronics, broadcasting a strong signal that overrides or obscures a target signal. Jamming of radio and television stations broadcasting from beyond borders may be carried out by a country that does not wish its citizens to receive programs from abroad. In military activities, jamming is frequently employed to confuse enemy radar or communications. The techniques of jamming are many and varied, but most of them simply consist of broadcasting a powerful radio signal, modulated with noise, on the precise frequency of the signal being jammed.

Since the Kraang had observe this scream blast at least twice and that they themselves have telepathy, what they can do is create a special electromagnetic interference device which blocks and makes April unable to focus and physically harm her when she tries. It's like trying to have a conversation in ear damaging rock metal concert.

Now the reason why they themselves are not effected by their device is that the group of Kraang that are using the device have this Magneto like armor which blocks off the strong signal.

http://filmonic.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/xmen-first-class-magneto-helmet.jpg

Interesting enough, the Kraang can communicate without the aid of their telepathy but without the telepathy, the Kraang has no idea which kraang they addressing to who so they have to give each other temporary code names. This also blocks them from the hive mind of Kraang Prime which effects them into giving them individual personalities like Kraang sub prime.

I am getting off topic again but the point there is a weakness to April's powers that can never be change. There can be a situation where April has to use her powers to save her friends but at a cost it severely damage the part of her body that enables her to use telepathy.

It must be part of military protocol to wear military uniforms but ninjas in general try to blend in to their surroundings so why not wear camo?

And also-you know-pesky bullets.

In the recent episode what doesn't make sense is that realistically Donnie, Mikey, Raph, and Casey would have all died before Leo and April got to them.

Donnie says the geyser was boiling at 200+ degrees. I don't know about the Turtles since they are ninja they might have a bit more physical endurance then Casey having been trained as ninja for years. But humans can get heat stroke at 104 degree weather. And if it wasn't the heat that did them in gysers do have sulfur so they would have been poisoned in addition to being boiled to death.

Yeah, everyone should have been dead after that Chimera episode.

The whole Timothy arc doesn't make sense to me. I actually really enjoyed "Pulverizer Returns" and was interested in his character because it was the first time we saw genuine remorse over mutating. "Mutagen Man Unleashed" was a mess of an episode, though. Why was he obsessed with April? Why did he start drinking mutagen in the first place? (As an aside, why is Donnie so careless with mutagen all the time?) Why freeze him while promising to cure him and totally forget he exists when the cure is found? I can't make sense of this.

yea.......I mean Splinter as a rat is fine, but Tim is a pile of goo that can barely talk or get a hold of his family.

Don should have offered the mutagen to Tim first (after April's dad)

then again....Don should have offered it to all the mutants since he had enough for everyone XD

My guess with the whole April thing is that Donnie had been telling Timothy about his woes with April gone. But the Pulverizer (since his brain isn't entirely functioning) has resentment towards the Turtles for not telling him about how dangerous the mutagen was (even though Donnie was doing nothing but warn him it was dangerous.) and in his mind he sees Donnie get the better of everything, a better mutation, better skills, and a cute girl who values him as a friend. So when he hears April doesn't want to be with the Turtles anymore because of what happened to her father. Timothy is probably thinking "Hey, these guys turned me into this...and they mutated this April girls father. If she's a victim too, perhaps she'll be my friend and we can commiserate over how the Turtles have screwed us over."

As for why he started drinking mutagen...I don't know he may have subconsciously realized he needed to drink it in order to control his body. But for Donnie being careless, he probably didn't realize the pulverizer was drinking the mutagen. He'd just come back and find it gone for some strange reason.

And his reasons for curing Splinter instead of Timothy could have been a matter of priority.

Donnie has heard Splinter mourn his humanity more then once. So he probably promised himself at some point when he had been a child that he would find a way to restore Splinter to his rightful form.

As he didn't have the substance needed, that was on the back burner.

Pulverizer was added to the list as well, but he said some day. But finding April's father had to come first and he needed a means of obtaining mutagen.

When he freezes timothy, that was a betrayal on his part and an action he didn't want to take. But that was the only way of preventing Timothy from hurting his brothers and April.

And after he successfully creates Retromutagen, he says he wants to cure Kirby because that was restoring what was right. And Splinter had first priory as a gift from a son to his father.

He didn't forget Timothy, he pondered on who he would de-mutate when he created the anti-mutagen, he only had 2 doses and he mentioned he had to help Kirby, Timothy and Splinter.

But that episode has a really big WTF though, he states that he only have enough for 2 people, he loses one and all hell breaks lose when everyone wants the second one, and in the end a single drop of it was enough to de-mutate Kirby. One drop, he could de-mutate everyone in the city with one canister alone let alone 2.

I personally like the Timothy arc and I don't find it too far of a stretch that he choose to try and demutate Splinter/Kirby first. That said -

- This is an excellent point! How much does he actually need to demutate someone?

The only reason I can think of for why he made such a big deal about only having enough for two people is that he didn't know it'd only take a tiny amount of mutagen to un-mutate someone. He could have assumed that it'd take a whole canister of retro-mutagen to un-mutate someone, and didn't want to run more tests to find out for sure because he was so eager to un-mutate Kirby and Splinter.

It would have been better if they'd done something where the one drop of anti-mutagen was only enough for a temporary de-mutation. That way it would still make sense that the "full" dose was only enough to fully de-mutate two people, like Donnie said.

Meh, it's just one of those things that are made to create a "gasp" moment and make you go "what now?" and in the end everything works and the day is saved, it contradicts the rest of the episode but what can we do right? It's like they say, it's just a kids show, not Shakespeare...

Kinda hard to fake it surrounded by students if you're made of metal.

but that Genome project happened four episodes after the call of Irma. So how could SubPrime being a spy by them if the Kraang didn't knew where April was studing?

They could have had an off screen moment where Donnie hacks into April's fathers email and sends a notice saying that April is going on a trip outside of the country with him and she would be gone the rest of the year.

And April probably had correspondence with her teachers about her homework assignments so that she can keep her grades up.

that was not. id imagine its because they planned to use april, and it is a populous city, so good place to start, then probably expand

as for the epf
as the gang drives up to them, you see barricades set up with epf soldiers, and they tell casey the city is quarantined. as the soldier walks away, you see the soldier has a brainwashing device like mr oneil had. the kraang are controlling the epf. also, as to why the rest of the world may not be responding, carlos chang whatever broadcasted, obviously brainwashed saying the people of new york are fine
