Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ First Week Blu-Ray™ and DVD Sales Slice Their Way to Become the #1 Performing Home Entertainment Title of All 2014 Blockbusters

The fun-filled and action-packed blockbuster from Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Films, TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES, packed a major punch with phenomenal sales during its first week of release on Blu-ray™ and DVD. Among all films theatrically released in 2014 that earned more than $100 million at the box office, TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES has the highest ratio of disc sales to theatrical ticket sales for its first week of release. Produced by Michael Bay with Platinum Dunes, the film has earned over $478M to date at the worldwide box office.

“The extraordinary performance of TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES is a testament to the wildly-entertaining re-launch of this beloved franchise and a major success for Paramount,” said Dennis Maguire, President, Worldwide Home Media Distribution, Paramount Pictures. “Consumers clearly still want to own high-quality, repeatable entertainment, which is a positive sign for our industry as a whole.”

Packed with jaw-dropping action and special effects and loaded with the franchise’s signature humor, TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES is fun for the whole family. In the eye-popping reimagining, the legendary heroes in a half shell take on the sinister Shredder to defend New York City with the help of intrepid reporter April O’Neil (Megan Fox).

The TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Blu-ray Combo Pack includes loads of behind-the-scenes footage and interviews and limited quantities come with two reversible masks featuring all four signature colors of the beloved crime-fighters (while supplies last). Select retail outlets also are offering exclusive versions of the Blu-ray with collectible packaging, premiums and more.

Director David Green (“EARTH TO ECHO”) will take the helm of the next installment in the film franchise, with Michael Bay set to produce alongside his Platinum Dunes partners Andrew Form and Brad Fuller, with Galen Walker and Scott Mednick also producing. Screenwriters Josh Appelbaum & André Nemec (“MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: GHOST PROTOCOL”) are again coming aboard to write the sequel and will also Executive Produce. The sequel will be released in theaters on June 3, 2016.

Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies present a Platinum Dunes production, a Gama Entertainment/Mednick Productions/Heavy Metal production of a Jonathan Liebesman film: “TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES.” Executive produced by Denis L. Stewart, Eric Crown, Napoleon Smith III and Jason T. Reed. Produced by Michael Bay, Andrew Form, Brad Fuller, Galen Walker, Scott Mednick and Ian Bryce. Based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles characters created by Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman. Screenplay by Josh Appelbaum & André Nemec and Evan Daugherty. Directed by Jonathan Liebesman.

Normal and understandable that that they're going to make big statements like this, a company is not going to speak badly about their products, but self-aggrandizing language like that is rarely too believable.

It was ok, it had it's good/modestly decent points, but it was not nearly the "omg a double rainbow"-level of omg-ness the company is bound to make it out to be. Blinded by the numbers falling into their bank account, ignoring that not every dollar means it was a spectacular job and that some of it is simply 'because Turtles' for better or for worse.

Why would you be glad about that?
All the company cares about is money. The sequel won't be an improvement. They'll just continue sodomizing the franchise.

Nope in the right way, TV, Movies, Video Games.

TV Show this season has really been picking up, a couple of TMNT games were released this year, and the movie was a box office success, I don't care what the critics say.

Happy that it was a success. TMNT 2014 could've been a lot better but happy for the franchise as a whole that it was a success. Call me a crazy optimist but I do believe the sequel will improve upon the first. Diff director brought on board and I do think the guys realize they got away lucky with the success of the first.

thats not a good thing

I really do not get this mentality of.."Its TMNT so i like it"

it is such a childish thought process, "i mean really Kids think that way..its TMNT so i want it..i dont care what it is..I know i was that Kid"

you arnt helping anyone just blindly liking anything with the green TMNT logo slapped on it

you know what this movie shows Hollywood...that fans of this franchise are dumb and dont care as long as 4 green guys in multi colored masks show up on screen

Exactly. The Transformers films are proof of this. They may make a buttload of cash, but they still suck.

Wow, they are really grasping for straws here. All in all, I bet Frozen is still the top selling entertainment entity of 2014.

Look, this is Paramount. They are notorious for flubbing data for some ridiculous bragging rights. Just look up Transformers Revenge of the Fallen and Puerto Rico.

Haha...what a misleading title. It wasn't the actual #1 selling title of the year.

Among all films theatrically released in 2014 that earned more than $100 million at the box office, TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES has the highest ratio of disc sales to theatrical ticket sales for its first week of release.

It means that they have the highest ratio of DVD sales compared to ticket sales. It means absolutely nothing. Just Paramount being Paramount.

Only if we're to assume very dollar equals a gold star seal of approval?

I mean, it's not only those who are head over heels in love with it that buy it. There's also those who were "ok" with it and decided to own it, those buying it based on certain aspects and not necessarily others, the casual viewer who simply likes exploding 'popcorn movies,' Bay movie fans, those who like Turtles anything no matter what it is, completionist collectors who weren't fond of it but cringe and hand over the money, people who didn't see it in theaters but decided to buy it, people who gave it as a gift because someone they know likes TMNT, people who like one or more of the actors, people who wanted one of the exclusive items enough (like that Raph statue) to go for it, people who wanted a Turtles coaster.

Yeah, Lots of reasons why people buy the movies, Parents who buy the movies for the kids to watch, I see a lot of posts on the #tmntmovie hashtag of people who bought the movie, Watched it and loved it.

Seriously? :ohwell: Wonder if some big ones just figure they can get away with less and don't feel the need to include as much to try to draw sales.

Hate to say it, but I wouldn't be surprised if extras eventually go the way of the soundtrack and move to being available as individually priced downloads. Although...if we could just buy the extras we're interested in (and maybe more things available at later dates), it might not be a bad deal provided the disc price would be lower (yeah right).

It's not selling more units than GOTG. It's selling more units in relation to its ticket sales which means nothing since GOTG had twice the ticket sales as TMNT.

TV Show this season has really been picking up, a couple of TMNT games were released this year, and the movie was a box office success, I don't care what the critics say.

Do you care what the fans say?

A not insignificant number of people came out thinking it was one of the worst things they'd seen and even a lot that claimed to enjoy seem to think there's big faults there. Isn't having all this new stuff meaningless unless it's satisfying people?

Also how long can it really go on. The Nick show is losing ratings but I doubt that will affect it much as it seem they're committed to pushing on but let's say 20% of people didn't like this movie and don't intend to see the sequel. (That's a low ball estimate) Then unless something happens to change their minds the sequel makes 20% less in a climate were sequels are expected to make more.

Just look at The Amazing Spider-Man, a movie which TMNT 2014 blatantly rip offed. We had all the same rationalizations of strong international and home media sales and confirmation of a bunch of sequels and a spin off and look what's happening now. The sad part is the TMNT can't guest star in a Marvel movie as compensation.

Well deserved. Money talks much louder than a vocal few!

How much money is it really making though?

Reading the article it makes it seem as it's on it's way to being the best selling movie released on DVD of 2014 but as people have pointed out there is a little distinction that it's the best selling in regards to movies that made a particular amount, in reality it's nowhere near the best selling.

Food for thought but it's not in the top 10 best grossing movies this year and while that's not really surprising it did surprise me it wasn't Top 20 Pirated movies. That's how much people cared.

Like or loathe the PD film, the fact that it is selling well shows (if nothing else) that there is still an appetite for TMNT on film, amongst a broader audience than just us hardcore fans.

We're a small bunch. We need buy-in from that broader audience to keep the property alive. As a group, I doubt we are profitable on our own. And that appetite will keep the property alive in years to come.

Compare what we have now to that horrible time when Vol 4 was on permanent hiatus, Tales seemed to be very half-arsed, 2k3 had turned into Fast Forward and TMNT had tanked. It seemed the whole franchise was dying a slow and painful death. Whereas now, we have IDW which is excellent, we have Nick which is excellent, and we have a bankable cinematic property with more on the horizon. This is the growth phase of the cycle. It might not be perfect or in line with the visions of us fans, but it is far from dying and is paving the way for more opportunities for the franchise. And the more incarnations there are alive and kicking, the more chance there is that the fans will see something they like.

Just bringing this up here from your signature - because it's... vaguely on-topic, sort of? But:

Congrats TMNT 2014, the 22nd highest grossing movie of ALL TIME! (Forbes)

Mind linking to your source here? Because the 22nd highest grossing movie of all time (http://boxofficemojo.com/alltime/world/) is Despicable Me 2, with $970,761,885 worldwide. BayTurtles made about half of that. In fact, BayTurtles isn't even in the top 100 worldwide - it's #144.

If you're looking at North America only (http://www.imdb.com/boxoffice/alltimegross), it's lower - #166.

And I believe all that's without adjusting for inflation, which would put it lower still.

It was a box office success it grossed $191,204,754 in North America and estimated $286,000,000 in other countries for a worldwide total of $477,204,754. becoming Nickelodeon Movies highest grossing film. it will make more money in japan when it's release on February 7. the film topped the home video sales charts in its first week and achieved the highest disc sales to theatrical tickets sales its first week in stores. it retained the top spot on the home video sales chart in its second weekend so I am very happy it's doing very good. best tmnt movie yet can't wait for tmnt 2 2016

Nothing to celebrate. Just encourages more half-hearted "Efforts" aimed at the lowest common denominator like the last one.

Anything that encourages non-fans to look at and talk about TMNT fans as if they're simple is not something to be encouraged or celebrated.

I've noticed that they've been practically giving them away since it came out - they were marked down more than half price in a bunch of post-Christmas sales and online.

Kind of like the movie tickets, remember? Free tickets with DVDs, in soda bottles... They were practically giving them away at the door.
