Recently, I've noticed some threads floating around with people debating how to make a good TMNT movie without the shredder as the main villian. Well, this is the one idea I've seen mentioned before, that I think makes the most sense, and would now be possible with today's level of cgi. I'm talking about a film with Baxter Stockman in conflict with the Rat King.

With all of the ideas that have been flying around for a TMNT movie, I think this might be the one that would please the most fans. Think about it; Baxter Stockman, a scientist whose mousers are decimating the rodent population in New york- along with tracking and trying to destroy the turtle's sensei, master splinter, draws the wrath of the Rat King, lord of the city's vermin population. Splinter is the character at stake here, in danger from both the chomping jaws of the mousers, and the rat king's mental control. this would be the thing that draws the turtles into the conflict, making this a personal fight.

A war between these two, with the turtles caught in the middle and NYC as the battleground, would be an epic film that turtles fan of all kinds could enjoy. Both characters come from Mirage, and Peter Laird himself had once thought a movie with these two in it would make sense. (said in an entry on his TMNT blog where he had his ideas for what the original TMNT 2 should have been). And I think that this would be the ultimate plot/storyline for a good TMNT film that could satisfy most fans of all versions, maybe?

Personally, I would LOVE that movie. The thing is, both of those villains are pretty obscure to non-TMNT viewers and could come off pretty weird.

Rat King (homeless guy who controls rats in the sewers) Vs Baxter Stockman (technological genius who designed walking robot mousetraps)?

Though of course, Marvel Studios made a buncha $$$ on a talking tree, a talking raccoon and (soon) a guy who shrinks and rides ants. So maybe there's a broader audience appeal once initial skepticism is overcome... :tlol:

This could be a very good story, but I think it would be fun to have all kinds of mutants in a story. The Rat King and Baxter are sort of boring to be in a big movie, but it would be a good TV episode I think if they did that on Nickelodeon.

I think for the big movies they should just use as many mutants as they can, because this is what the people really want to see.

Batman Begins used Scarecrow as one of the main villains, and it was great, Scarecrow is not a pop culture type character in Batman.

They could start the movie by showing Baxter testing on a few people, who eventually turn out to be Rat King, Bebop & Rocksteady. Rat King becomes homeless and vows revenge on Baxter when he learns he can control rats, and starts planning his revenge. There is the conflict from Rat King and Baxter, and the Mousers would fill Platinum Dunes' robot quota. You could have Rat King fighting the Turtles and Baxter's creations, eventually having Rat King fight alongside the Turtles.

I think the movie studios have plans for a lot of movies for these franchises, so they want to use as many characters as they can, and build up the universes to have that major payoff. There might be hesitation to keep rehashing the same villains over and over, so at least they are being some what creative in digging deep for lesser known villains. I hope that happens w/ the TMNT franchise.

Would certainly make an interesting movie! I'd be glad to see mousers in a movie! Would like Krang as well!

I am all for that! Its the best situation to not have to have Shredder involved to make it interesting. The only question then would be the tone.

I agree with you guys, this would be an awesome movie! And yeah, put Bebop and Rocksteady in there, too! It would certainly be DIFFERENT! Something we haven't seen before! :D
