After another long hiatus, we're finally back to some new episodes! Aaaand it looks like we've got another horror-based monster this week.... At this point I'm pretty much waiting for Vison Quest. Have fun watching in the morning, we'll have a poll up after the airing. :)

This was always when they went on early.

Last year, they just started doing it from Manhattan Project and on.

Yeah, I was really hoping to download it before work! And I have to get up for the opening shift tomorrow, so it'll be even harder to watch it....unless I just upload it onto my phone and watch it on my lunch; that could work. Still, watching it on phones makes it sort of tedious. Guess I'll have to avoid Tumblr and this thread for the next 24 hours.

First viewing thoughts :

- What a surprise, Continuity in between filler episodes.

- When did Leonardo become Mr. Glass from Unbreakable?

- Casey "Another Mutant? " Even the show realizes the mutant-of-the-week formula Is getting ridiculous.

- Congratulations, Greg Weisman, you've just given potential Leo and April Shippers fuel.

- We interrupt this episode to bring you "How to Train your Chimera".

- How did they survive that rockslide ?

Overall thoughts:

Really fun motw episode, but it's about time we get back to the story. 8/10

Wow, serious points to whoever had spotted that bird, I can't believe it really was it. GOOD eye!

Guess what? Another random mutant that only hardcores will be able to remember after this series ends. But all things considered, it isn't too bad. A Chimera as you know is a mythological, multi-animal creature that often comes out of a mountain in a place called Lycia, and this isn't a bad take on that. We get the typical somebody is feeling funny, a random mutant appears out of nowhere, heroes get trapped, the leader must figure out what's wrong while assisting the affected ally, the other dudes need their help, the leader thinks of a brave idea to take a chance and ride the Chimera, makes a bold move underwater, drives it to the place of need by the others, and another Hail Mary rescue occurs while the sidekick gets cured of weird abilities. A fine episode if you haven't seen it as we get a little rooster continuity, but I'm still longing for what's going on in New York/Dimension X, as a cut scene really should be due. At least we get to see some use of the weapons here along with Casey making something out of his powers. I would have liked to see such as event to see what's happened to Splinter/The Foot/The Kraang after a break just to see where things stand. Seeing next weeks preview just looks to be a variation on the same "special ability" theme.

Overall: 7/10

Honestly all these episodes are pretty good as stand-alone episodes, the problem is they're all back to back in a row. I'm willing to bet if these filler episodes were scattered across a season instead of back to back people would have loved each of them.

I actually liked this episode a lot. I love that Leo and April had a bonding episode for once(I promise not to ship them, at least until Karai's story is resolved (joking ;)). At least it wasn't Donnie. However, I did like how Donnie was with April in this episode. He was himself the entire time. He wasn't trying to be anything different.

It did have some continuation at least, if only it was the same thing with Leo's knee and April's powers again. I had a strange feeling that April would "heal" him in some way and then when he suddenly just stopped and said "Oh, I can stand", I was like What? Why is he suddenly okay out of nowhere?

Maybe it was all psychological and his knee is not even damaged anymore. Hopefully, they will dwell on that a little more in Leo's quest. I liked some of the lines, Raph saying he was glad Leo was the leader again, who would he have to complain about if he wasn't and Mikey's burned bum.

The only problem is that they would have to retconned a explanation on why they are out in the middle of the forest but I suppose they can just include a single line of dialogue "It was sure nice for Master Splinter to let us go camping." Knowing this show, we will probably be back to North Hampton once again but this time it won't be in the middle of a freak'n story arc. You can probably put like two of these episodes after a new episode of them camping and it wouldn't feel out of place.

Is anyone surprise that the guest writer is better at addressing the continuity then the permanent writers of the show?

I really like the idea of geyser instead of a regular volcano but I am not sure if they would be able to breath...ah who cares, I'm just glad that April didn't suddenly learn to possess the bird and gain a new power. Yes she did telekinesis but it was because of Kraang tech, not because she suddenly pull it out of her ass so yup I am not going to complain.

This was a genuinely good episode. It may be a type episode that you have seen before but the execution was solid.

Another thing...did anyone notice that Donnie was using a radio for his experiment? More fuel to my "April's telepathy is electromagnetic base" head canon. http://www.narutoforums.com/images/smilies/series2/emotawesomepm9.gif

The guest writer was the guy who created Gargoyles and he was very clear about continuity in that show.

In the seconded (cannon) season most of the episodes had a small clip montage telling you which episodes the story was gaining continuity from.

Really enjoyed the episode, seeing Greg Weisman name popped up totally shocked me, I never expected it and he never mentioned it on the Ask Greg Website but he did say he has some work coming up. I hope he writes more episodes and have a few Gargoyles references :D

Loved the interaction between Leo and April and all the bromance moments.

Anyone catch the foreshadowing the Turtle blimp moment when Mikey said we should make a big balloon.

It just seems like the usual writers forget things but this guy (I am aware that he is an awesome guy in the cartoon industry) actual read past scripts and did his homework.

Although maybe the continuity was just Leo's injured leg.

All those human bones in the nest had me like :o twas a nice touch!
So it seems April is sort of an animal man (woman) character.
I'm going to be she will be able to control animals when she gets it all figured out and this may really come into play in helping the guys out from stopping animal mutants in future episodes.

Glad to get a decent Leo-April episode, nice to see them interact a bit more rather than just co-existing in the same room.

Am I the only one slightly disturbed by the sheer number of human skeletons in the nest, and what the implications of those are. In a short period of time, an inordinate amount of people have been devoured by this creature, and the population of Northampton can't be that large. That's got to be a cause of concern in the region...

Great episode overall. A lot of the Leonardo/April interaction was great, because I can only remember so many times when they've exchanged more than one line of dialogue in a scene.
I think the reason Leo realized he could stand was that he was so dependent on his crutch and down on himself already that his injury had become more psychological than physical. He's been healing for the whole season and he just had to realize that now, even though he occasionally hurt, he didn't need the crutch.
Loved Raph and Casey's exchange about getting frequently kidnapped by mutants. I also saw a lot of Casey and Raph dynamic in this episode, and I'm glad because Casey usually talks to Donnie more.
Basically, the only part of this episode I didn't like was the little bit where Donnie is on one of the cards but April guesses it's a worm, so Donnie's head turns into a worm (?!). Kind of an off-putting image. I was like "Oohh-kay..."

Probably the second best episode of the season. I loved how the show acknowledged that there are so many mutants. I'd rank the episodes...
1. Within the Woods.
2. Eyes of the Chimera
3. In Dreams
4. Buried Secrets
5. The Croaking
6. Race with the Demon
7. A Foot Too Big.

Also, this episode helped me get used to Seth's voice.

His voice got a tad too deep when he yelled "NO" right after Casey said "you can still spar with us" that I thought it was Master Splinter! Then I realize it was just Leo who said it, and not a surprise visit by Master Splinter :tlol:

Other than that I've come to accept that Leo's new voice is pretty much permanent by now.

I don't like how his voice does that, either. Like, on a regular basis, it doesn't sound bad. But I miss Jason: his voice will always be the epitome of 2012 Leo's voice to me. Dominic was pretty good, too.

I loved this episode but that's no surprise as I'm a huge Leo fan. I agree that his whole deal with his knee was definitely more psychological than physical. Yeah, it would twinge a bit, but he made more out of it than he should have and he should have just calmed down. I agree that his being able to stand was a bit quick, but it was good to see him getting back to himself. Loved the look he got after April said, "Let's go rescue the guys." Yeah, the moment where April wanted to eat him was definitely awkward for sure, but it was funny as was Mikey getting burnt by the water. The part where Leo and April are riding the chimera was the best and I loved the music with it, too. Overall, an awesome episode, and it looks like we haven't seen the last of the chimera.

Oh, and don't worry because I've always missed pronounced it. I've always pronounced it as the way it's spelled like chim-err-ah. Guess I was wrong. Bring on the Vision Quests!

It was another "mutant of the week" episode, but in contrast with the others I fully enjoyed this one. Cleverly and well written. In a subtle and good way it felt different from the other episodes.

Loved the many character interactions. From Casey, Raph and Leo at the start, to Raph and the others trying to escape, to Leo and April trying to save the others, this episode was full of it. And I enjoyed every moment.

Characters were well written too, with lines and jokes that actually fit them without being annoying. Really liked this take on Mikey. And it seems there's still a bit of rivalry between Casey and Donnie, which will likely remain between them.

My favorite episode so far this season. It actually re-ignited my interest for this series again. Looking forward to the next episodes.

YEEEES!!! Good news, everyone! (yes, I said it in the Dr. Farnsworth voice) I was able to get to work early today and got to the break room JUST as the credits for Spongebob were rolling and didn't miss a minute. So I don't have to worry about avoiding Tumblr or this forum.

Well, this was a pretty great episode, to be honest. When I read the synopsis about how April had to overcome an obstacle, I thought it'd be a cold or something lame like that. But having her be semi-blind/psychically attached to the chimera was not only clever, but helpful to the plot. Plus, how weird would it be if you were able to do that. You're not technically possessing another body since you're still in your physical body, but it's almost like an out-of-body experience!

Although the chimera (Yeah, I've been saying it wrong, too) is another MotW, it's a pretty creative one. In fact, ALL the MotWs have been pretty clever in design. That's the only thing keeping me from hating them. I love how they made the talons be worm segments and the wings like fish fins. I've always been a sucker for detailed designs in stuff like this.

Leo and April. I love how April was showing a lot of tough love to Leo, even though you know she still thought highly of him. And this really gave Seth Green a chance to perform better as Leo aside from the weak, helpless Leo from the beginning of the season. And when they hugged, I could almost hear THOUSANDS of shippers squeeing their heads off...

All in all, I think this season gets better and better with each passing episode. I can't wait to see what The Spirit Quest will give us and I'm curious as to whether the bad guys from the city are actually THERE or it's part of some weird....vision.

Plus, I can't help but wonder why Donnie is paired off with Tigerclaw. I really thought that Tigerclaw would go against Leo.

For a Mutant of The Week Episode, this one was done really well and probably is the best of the season so far for me. Seth Green did a great Job, you could hear all the inflections in his voice and his vulnerability as Leo, his voice was deep in the dramatic moments but a higher Calmer 'Leo' voice when normal. I think he finally has Leo and I look forward to seeing where the writers take him and how he plays it.

There was some nice character development for Raph as well, through out Season 3 he has become the unconscious leader of the team and has showed another softer side to him in almost every episode whilst still being 'Raph' if/when he becomes dark Raph it makes it all the more heart breaking. I have to say the little tongue in cheek of Raph commenting on a mutant of the week joke was a nice touch :twink:

This episode just had such a nice balance of Comedy, Tension, Vulnerability and even a little darkness (human skeletons a little 2K3ish guys :twink:) the fact that Greg Weisman from Gargoyles was a guest writer on this shows what he could do with the series if given the chance.

Yeah, I was happy with this one, it was an excellent 'final' to the mutant of the week episodes and a great 'transition episode' for Leo to get into the right frame of mind for the Spirit Quests. Can't wait to see more :tgrin:

I think they've exhausted just about every mutant of the week type monster mutant that they possibly can. Especially if you count the ones in Seasons 1-2 where they did a Loch Ness homage, Aliens homage, a ghost, the Pizzaface ep were zombies, the Parascita wasps, etc.

You forgot plants. Infact Snakeweed was the very first mutant monster they had to face and he was a plant. I'm there's something the writers haven't thought of yet. I'm sure there's a good chance we'll see an ice monster, or some winter themed mutant at some point.

Even Rahzar is based on a werewolf. Snakeweed was a plant monster who absorbs humans, Mutagen Man is literally a freak of nature. Cockroach Terminator was literally a bug terminator. We had an evil robot schoolteacher, etc.

There aren't many "animal" mutants aside from Tiger Claw, Bebop/Rocksteady, Fishface and Baxter.

Probably the second best episode of the season. I loved how the show acknowledged that there are so many mutants. I'd rank the episodes...
1. Within the Woods.
2. Eyes of the Chimera
3. In Dreams
4. Buried Secrets
5. The Croaking
6. Race with the Demon
7. A Foot Too Big.

for me it would be
1within the woods
2the croaking
3dream bevers or in dreams
4buried secrets
5eyes of the chimera
6race with the demon
7a foot too big ( I really dislike this episode one of my least favorite in the series)

This is seriously annoying. Ep still isn't up anyplace. I can't use iTunes, I refuse to pay for Hulu Plus (as I already have a Netflix subscription), I can't use Nickelodeon's site because you need a cable service provider or whatever that nonsense is, and Amazon still only has up to ep 6.

Wait....that wasn't?

It sort of pretty much was, but the backs of the cards were different.

That's basically the only thing different about it.

Scientist testing the psychic ability of girl he likes with cards with images on them, she gets them wrong.

GOD I love this show. It's catering to me in ways I never could have imaged.

Jeeze, Mikey, way to be a jinx!

I really, really liked this episode, and it's got to be one of my favorites in the series. It's probably one of the ones that's made me laugh the hardest- poor Donnie's face when April told him she was picturing a worm. I'll never be able to hear about turducken's again without snickering!

Leo's knee suddenly healing kind of bugged me as well, but other than the quickness with which it happened (which I supposed they had to do if they didn't want to address it in the Spirit Quest episode), but the psychological aspect makes a lot of sense. Leo did say later that he wasn't going to let pain stop him, which implies that he was still feeling some physical wackiness in his knee. The mental frustration that appeared during the training session had probably been building for a while, and finally just bottled over. Leo has doubts about his leadership ability even when he's not injured, so that was definitely in character for him. He knee may be something that always bothers him a little bit, but he's probably not going to think about it so much.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this is the first episode where we've seen Leo actually stab something that wasn't a robot. That, and the obviously human skeletons in the chimera's nest added a lot to the show for me. I love the series to death, but it's nice to have an episode where stuff like that wasn't coddled as much as it had been.

This another episode in Northampton, but this was a good one. Leo started to have doubts of being leader of the group and thinks that his knee will never heal. But April encouraged him to be strong. So both of them went to a search for the others and suddenly Leo doesn't feel pain on his knee. I like that he and April have a closer interaction. When they ride the chimera, it remain me of the strange creatures of Avatar.

I hope they returned to New York soon.

Okay, finally got to see the ep thanks to a couple of you here. Thanks. ^_^

I really liked this episode and, once again, we see April in a situation where her psychic powers go haywire because of something connected to the Kraang. We still, to my knowledge, have only one episode where April was in control of her power with something non-Kraang related and that was the Dream Beaver ep and even then, still felt like she was using Splinter's teachings to try concentrating and focusing while trying to connect with the four. I guess this is why I don't have a problem, so much, with her power. Seems it's always directly or indirectly linked with something Kraang-ish or Kraang related. So I ask, WHY do people get annoyed over her powers when there's clearly a pattern?

Anywho, liked the Ghostbusters reference with the cards. Oh and I loved how Mikey was going on about knowing of a creature similar to the Chimera in mythology but couldn't come up with a name and called it Turducken. I also liked Mikey's random balloon comment...so yep, guess that's alluding to the fact that they'll be doing something with the Turtle Blimp soon.

I'm glad that they finally went back to Leo's injury and I'm so not surprised that he was still having trouble with it. IMO, this is being portrayed very realistically. It's easy to physically heal, but the mind can be very strong. It's not as easy to mentally heal from a traumatic experience. Not comparable, but with my hospital visit, I was still highly paranoid after my release. Knowing I could've died given how serious my condition was still haunts me. It took a while to get over that. Same after the earthquake/tsunami incident. I was suffering from PTSD after that without realizing it. Even when I returned to the US, I was still showing signs of it. Logically I knew I was safe, but the irrational side of my mind didn't see it that way,if it makes sense.

Okay, enough of that. Other things I liked...oh yeah, everyone's interactions. I like how Raph and Casey were worried about Leo and how Mikey was bugging Donnie (typical siblings, eh?), and Leo and April's interactions were nice and like how she tried to eat him. I also like how April got Leo to try. He still has to mentally fight and I wonder if this'll apply in his spirit quest journey.

Oh! I loved how Raph was getting on the other three for not having their grappling hooks and Raph's pointing out that they're mutants and that it should be expected that others'll show up. Don't know about you guys, but that felt like something that could've been used in the OT. I could see OT Raph saying something like that for some reason...then again, quite a few things 2k12 Raph says (as well as this Donnie when in a sarcastic mood), I could see being delivered in an OT sense. lol

Welp, not sure what else I can say, but if I were to rank the episodes, it would be...

Chimera ep
Dream Beaver ep
Punk Frog ep
A Foot too Big (this ep still makes me laugh because of The Finger)
Mom-Thing
Within the Woods
Demon Car

I don't mind these eps and I still don't consider eps like the "Mom-thing" one as fillerf or the Car Demon ep, to an extent...but I still feel if all of these eps would've been aired together without the breaks, it wouldn't feel that way or as frustrating.

It's just like, imo, the Chimera Ant Arc for the Hunter x Hunter manga. I really like this series, but the manga-ka always takes long hiatuses. It's gotten to the point where fans call the series Hiatux x Hiatus. That arc felt like it dragged on and deemed by some people as their least favorite arc of the series because it went on for so long, but reading it through with all the chapters complete, it's not bad at all. I know by doing this, I didn't feel frustrated with it like I did when I was originally reading it with the hiatuses. He's in a hiatus currently. Nothing since August, despite having just come out of a hiatus June of last year. So he put out something from June - early August. Hiatus. Before June, he hadn't put out anything since 2012. He's lucky I'm a loyal fan and want to know how the story ends or else I wouldn't bother. ><

It was written by Greg Weisman, creator of Gargoyles that's why it was so well written. I hope he writes more episodes. :D

Gargoyles? That was one of my favorite childhood series. :)

Yeah, I agree. Definitely hoping we'll see more of Greg's writing in this series.

He could have decided to go the easy way with a mutant and some action and call it a day, but instead he focused on some great character interaction and development, with some action added into the mix as a bonus. And I loved it.

I didn't find this episode particularly special by any means but I did enjoy the references in it. Ghostbusters, the mention of Talbot, the nod to the third flick ("If we're not back in *measurement of time*, we're turtle soup!", & there may have been others that I can't recall. & it was cool to see Dr. Cluckingstein return. Hope it sticks around.

Not a bad episode at all. Good to see Leo back on his feet!

I liked that they had some bonding between Raph and Casey/Leo. Its good to see a stronger friendship there.

I was also pleased that Donnie apologises to April at the end. They could easily have left that out completely, but its a nice touch I thought.

I think this was an important episode in that is the first step in moving the story along.

The entire reason they have been hiding out is to let Leo heal and it seemed every episode he had a setback. The injuries he received in that fight with Shredder were psychological along with the physical. I think he was concentrating on his knee so much it impeded the healing process. I'm not too bothered by the 'quick' heal in the forest. I think that scene demonstrated that the physical body was good but Leo had to get over the mental aspect of his injury. He was concentrating on April's condition and he suddenly realized he was OK. They can now move on and get back to NYC.

I think this episode is important for April as well. It shows how much her psychic abilities have developed since I think it is going to play a key role in how they defeat the Kraang.

A good 'mutant' episode. My favorite after the Frogs.

I really enjoyed this episode. Despite it being filler, it was action packed, funny and addressed issues of Leo's injury. But this episode was written by Greg Weisman so I expect nothing less.

Finally we get to see some April and Leo bonding time and it's nice to see April working to overcome a genuine obstacle.

Me, browsing the thread: "OMG! Greg Weisman guest-wrote this episode!"
husband: "What?! Seriously?!"

husband: "Is it up anywhere yet?"
both of us: "EEEEEE!!!"

Turducken... Mikey's book of "mythology" was a cookbook. ;p

I'm concerned about the number of bleached human bones were in that nest... this thing was on the loose how long??

Also, I guess we get an answer to what happens if more than two creatures were involved with the mutation process... mutant itself was wicked!

Great episode, although I agree with Powder. I just want to get back to the main story, but Weisman totally delivers as he always does. I was really digging his continuity bits. Props to whoever spotted that bird after Speed Demon went kabloohoohooey. Loved Leo and April's interactions. Mikey's Turducken name made me think of an episode from Supernatural season 7, where the main villains of the season used this type of sandwich for nefarious purposes. Anywho, awesome to see Weisman writing an episode for the series and I'm also hoping for more stories by him. I'm a huge Gargoyles and Spidy fan, so more Turtles via Weisman would make me very happy. Bring on Vision Quest and the glorious Return To New York! Well it'll be more Kraangy than glorious, but you get the picture.

Loved this episode. The Chimera was cool without being problematically gross (mom thing) and for the first time for ...I don't know a season and a half, we got some great character interaction. Leo and April made a great team, Donnie and Casey weren't crushing too much, Mikey was being cute without lacking an IQ, and Raph is just awesome. Weird premise for an episode, but entertaining none the less because of the great character development. Some one upthread mentioned that they're still suffering the effects of mom thing and emphasizing April's powers so I guess that's the link between all of these filler-y episodes, but still. Less filler, let's get back to New York.

The scene with April sniffing Leo (which is going to most likely spawn so many fanfics) is definitely one of my favorite moments of Season 3 so far.

When Donnie started conducting that experiment on April did anyone think they were gonna do an homage to Ghostbusters when Venkman was showing the hot chick the cards and telling her she got it right when she actually got it wrong? Also, I'm not sure if this has been mentioned but Turducken is actually a thing that John Madden used to award to the best player on whatever Thanksgiving day game that he called. I was curious if there were some football fans on the writing staff that might have snuck that in there because of that. I think in general it was a nice episode, despite extremely improbable things happening, like Leo being able to walk for no reason whatsoever, April and Leo surviving the ride on Chimera's back, as well as everyone surviving the rock avalanche, etc. It was all more or less acceptable because episode had some nice touches, like Leo and April bonding. The hug they shared at the and was so adorable ^__^

What I can't get over with since the start of season three, is Seth Green's voice. He's voice is just way, way too deep, Leo sounds like a grown up compare to the rest of the gang. I have a genuine dislike for Seth Green playing Leo to such measure, it ruins my experience of the whole 2012 show. I even think creators don't care much for the show anymore if they could hire someone like Seth Green to do Leo without noticing anything wrong. For this reason I'm afraid my interest in this show fades away, and I'm not seeing myself being able to watch it with same enthusiasm anymore :(

Well after seeing that Wikipedia article about it now I wonder if it has to do with the actual food or as an homage to John Madden. LOL. Either way it's good that I helped you get that figurative rock out of your shoe. I can't stand that feeling either.

Oh c'mon dude, even Mikey gives you an hint of what they're referencing here.

Michelangelo:Ooh! Bird, worm and fish. Three animals, one body. I know this one, there's like a perfect name for it in mythology!

Donatello: Chimera?

Michelangelo: No, Turducken!

3 animals? One body? A chicken inside a duck, inside a turkey?

I liked how it did a flashback to demon car episode. I wouldn't want that in every episode but after a hiatus, it was a good idea.

I thought this episode was ok. I didn't love it, I didn't hate it. I'm glad that despite it being filler, most fans seemed to enjoy it, which makes a nice change.

I liked the idea of bonding between Leo and April but as neither of those two are anywhere near my favourite TMNT characters, it didn't mean as much to me as it would have if say Raphael and Donnie were bonding, or Mikey and Casey.

Man I would love a Mikey/Casey episode.

But I wouldn't be too bothered if the chimera never showed up again. Boring. Probably my least favourite villain this season.

But they explained why his voice changed due to his ambush, so I think it's great that they did that. And there's nothing wrong with it at all. The creators do care about the show and thought Seth was a good fit, which he is. I'm sorry you don't like his voice for Leo, but I think it's a great fit and enjoy listening to him as I think he's come into his own with the role. Yes, it took some getting used to at first, but I'm accustomed to it now, and that's a good thing.

I loved this ep so much!

Just the other day I could've launched into a ginormous complaint about self-righteous, overpowered, Mary-Sue'd April in the official vent thread. She's just rubbed me all kinds of wrong.

Then I watched this ep. Greg Weisman has shown me that all April needed was a touch of humor. I realized the biggest flaw in April was that the writers, for the most part, put her on way too high a pedestal. But Eyes of the Chimera had her walking into a tree, lecturing thin air where she thought Leo was, bantering pretty realistically ("That's a little difficult right now!"), and just being so much more approachable without losing her basic inner strength. Bless Greg Weisman's heart.

Also, I'm a sucker for bromance. This ep had it in spades. :tgrin: My favorite moments were between Casey and Raph, both dialogue and body language. Bros for life right there!

I'm cool with Seth Green's Leo, liking him more with each new ep - this might put me in the minority, but IMO Leo's better off with a whole new voice than one trying to imitate the old voice. All respect for Jason Biggs and Dominic Catrambone, I just don't expect Seth Green to stuff himself into their mold. Neither does the show, or he wouldn't have been cast. I think he's doing fine. 8)

Glad to hear there are people who are getting used to Seth Green's voice and are able to enjoy this show. Personally, I have nothing against Seth Green, heck he seem quite enthusiastic about his work and is a fan of turtles. It's just that for me, his voice in this show stands out from the rest of the cast so painfully obvious, it's hard to listen. He's voice is somehow too loud, too deep and have a coarse quality, which would make him a perfect cast for a grisly bear, for instance. But teenage Leo? A character that in all previous incarnations had a higher pitched male voice, even as a grown-up? No. Decisively not.

Not to go off topic, I really liked Chimera's design in this episode, this is one of the rare monsters that are actually scary and interesting to look at. But that might be because the creature is copypasta from "The Giant Claw (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Giant_Claw)" 1957 science fiction film, lol.

And April, I finally agree - she is becoming a huuuge Mary-Sue black hole, isn't she? Not only does she have two of the main cast in love with her, but now she's the driving force behind Leo's resolve? Dude, did they overpower her or what... not to mention how she's constantly right about everything and have pivotal role in every main plot turn. I admit didn't notice this at first, but now I think I'm seeing what everyone has been talking about regarding April's unrealistic character.

I think the problem with Seth Green's voice for Leo is not that it's bad but that it's a radical change from the other two's voices. It gives Leo a much deeper tone where as Jason's made him sound more like a teen who's building up to be a leader and Dominique's made him sound more like a chill teen.

If you want my opinion, I think Leo's upgrade in voice actors is getting better for me. Seth Green sounded jarring at first and he still sounds less like a teenager then the other two but honestly at this point, I could care less about the teenage aspect of this show. I for one am enjoying his voice as it makes Leo sound more like the Leo I know and love. I welcome Seth Green with open arms and wished he voice Leo from the start of this series. But voice actors tend to change, so what can you do. *shrugs* :ohwell:

Totally agree that Seth should have been there from the beginning, but he's here now, and he's rocking it, so that's good.

And I agree about April, too. I thought she was pretty balanced and not too Mary Sueish, but she is a partial Sue. I think I would call her a total Sue if she used her powers all of the time, but that usually is the case while dealing with the Kraang, and considering the chimera got mutagen poured on it, it would make sense that April's powers would work that way, too with her seeing it. So I don't think she's a total Sue, but more of a borderline Sue. If she starts using her powers more to rescue the guys to the point where they don't even fight anymore, then I'll call her a total Sue.

Well it depend if she is never challenge, is always right, beloved by everyone even by the bad guys, and everyone constantly telling us that she is awesome then yes she would be a complete mary sue.

But let's look at some idealized characters are sometimes falsely label as mary sues.

Example A: Superman
Superman so overpowered but you what? He actually a better written character then...Batman. Yes Batman! :x. Superman may be stupid strong but in the hands of a good writer, he is never unchallenged because his enemies are often demigods that even sometimes succeed in killing him.

Batman on the other hand will know every field of science know to man, is a super genius detective, master martial artist that can easily defeated 20 guys.

The only thing that keeps Batman in check is that he has morally questionable motives that borderlines on being a complete sociopath. But if no one question him or calls him out of his BS then he is freaking Sasuke. In other words an anti sue.

Example B: Tohru Honda from Fruit Basket
Now I will admit that this harder to defend but what makes this character works and what others fail is that Honda's life was hard and even though she has bad days, she puts on a brave face and works her ass off in her part time job as a janitor while still going to high school (which she has a hard time keeping up with) instead giving a diatribe on how horrible her life is. That is what makes this character brilliant because instead her just telling the sob story or having moments of explosion of diarrhea angst, we see subtle signs of her pain through out the story.

Example C: Twilight Sparkles
Just because she an alicorn princess doesn't mean she doesn't have her share of troubles because let me tell you, when you ascend to level of power, it comes a whole new level of scrutiny. **** is going to get real my friends and god forbid if you make a mistake or appear human because the public has a way of never living it down. Just go ask Princess Luna.

So when we look at April, is she really a sue? It depends on who writing her because execution is what matters most.;)

What I want to see done with April is to go through a internal character struggle of being who she wants to be vs she is in real life.

Now I am not saying she should never try to improve herself, but I have notice that she had a ugly duckling stage and even more so, she doesn't seem to have a lot of friends outside of Casey and the turtles. I am betting that stage was un pleasant. She probably didn't really like herself back then. You could say that her problem was that she had a poor self image but I betting that it goes deeper.

Her father is a ethologist (animal psychologist) that study rats in mazes. Being a single parent, he probably brought his work home more then once, and April would always play with them which lead her to have this fascination with rats and that fascination grew into zoology and xenofiction (science fiction, fantasy and realistic stories that were told from an animal perspective or anything that was nonhuman). However when she told all the girls in elementary school, their respond was anything but positive. Everyone and everybody had this strong mental image of rats as disease vermin, but no one knew that rats were smart, strong and loving creatures and no one cared. She wasn't really tease but she wasn't notice either. There just wasn't anything that she could related to the other kids. Then one day when she finally had her braces off, she look in the mirror and smiled. "Wow, I don't look a nerd anymore." It was at that moment when she had an epiphany.

My point is to avoided going on about this unintentionally head canon fan fic is that April wants to be this idealized awesome cool popular person but there this nerdy Eliza Thornberry side who won't shut up about the freaking animals!
This all change after being around Donnie because wow, nerds can save the world, but there a bit of hesitation because you see she have been this new persona for a long time to a point where she sort of became the mask. She not sure if she can go back to be that smart little girl again that knew a lot about animals. Does she even want to or should she focus on improving her ninjustsu that fits with her new persona? Or maybe she can have a balance of both? Personal improvement and renewing an old interest that was a huge part of her life.

I know it's not exciting to put in a single laser focus character episode but at least it something for April.
Be yourself vs To change yourself to be better.

Personally, a Mary Sue/Gary Stu to me is a character portrayed as being unable to do anything wrong, liked by practically all of the characters, never or rarely having any consequences for her actions, and seen as being flawless. April is flawed to me and not viewed as liked by everyone (meaning the characters in the show).

The only character who comes to mind for me who fits the Mary Sue thing, imo, is Lola (or was it Lila?) from Hey Arnold...although granted, she was purposely written that way. Everyone, minus Helga, adored her and she came across as perfect in every way. Even the way she spoke was "perfect". Seriously, she could've gone on a killing spree and the other characters still would've praised her.

Luckyday: When I saw "Twilight Sparkles", I thought it was a jab at Edward from Twilight. lol

Great point about execution - that's why I was so pleasantly surprised by how Weisman wrote her, and I like your ideas as well. I too think she's in an unenviable phase of life; she even says so herself in "Karai's Vendetta." I guess those moments she's rubbed me the most wrong (like when she calls herself almost a full-fledged kunoichi after training only a few months *imagines Karai rolling her eyes* or when she tells off Master Splinter for "doing nothing" as if she knows exactly what he has endured) can be explained by her frustration with her own struggles.

Still, I would agree she's at least a borderline Sue, as BubblyShell22 says. :ohwell:

Seth's voice is quite different, that's true! And I do miss Jason Biggs. He does Big Brother the best - whether resolute, competitive, goofy or dorky, Jason nailed it all. Seth's Leo definitely took time to grow on me after that, but I'd say it has, even if he feels less Big Brother-like...and maybe that's the whole point, that Leo's becoming something more as the turtles' horizons expand. So yeah, I'm with you in welcoming Seth. :)

I'd still say Jason Biggs's voice is the best, his lines delivery was always top notch and spot on for the emotions required for the scenes. Dominique's a good replacement but since we get stuck with Seth.... tbh he's not absolutely bad, but he's lacking a firm voice/tone of a leader.

I'm still open to hear more from him though. It could be worse, but hey let's make the best out of it. :)

But they explained why his voice changed due to his ambush, so I think it's great that they did that. Actually, I think it's lame they addressed that. It reminds me of TV soaps where they try to explain actor quitting and being replaced by a new actor via saying he/she survived some accident, and had to go under face & body reconstruction. That trick is quite often used and it's pretty annoying.

Actually, he did use the leader voice in "Within the Woods" when Donnie and Mikey tried to challenge his orders of who was paired up with who, so we know he can do the leader voice just fine. I'm sure he'll get more into the leader mode later on.

This was a great episode. So many good interactions between characters. And nobody was left in the background with one or two lines. I laughed so hard when Raph berated the others for not being prepared. "Do you know who we are? When wouldn't we get attacked by bird mutants?!" Pretty freaky to see all those skeletons in the nest after such a short time. And that moment when April tried to eat Leo, oh my...

Leo: Donnie, you won’t believe what happened to me! We were out in the woods and April started smelling my neck!

Also enjoyed it when April ran into the tree. "I meant to do that!" Darkwing Duck reference? Never really thought of the worm-headed Donnie thing as an Earthworm Jim reference, thought.

He was probably thinking about Donnie. We'd get that shot of Donnie, like in the ep where they went to see Leatherhead after losing the power cell and Mikey was making light of the fact that Leatherhead grabbed Donnie by the face.

Almost 2k3 quality writing here, which is surprising. And continuity...? NICE!!
Also, It maybe just me, but it looked as if animation was better in this episode.

Blind April and injured Leo have been an awesome combo.

This veriosn of April wasn't really annoying me from the begining, and now, when she is actually can be useful somehow, except for being token human ally, I like her even more. Casey has become less annoying, too. So, maybe after all this time some character development will occur? We see, when this season will go to the more interesting part.

Also, not for the first time, I notice, that creators imply some pretty dark stuff in the series. I mean, this Chimera seemingly hunted a lot of people and will continue doing so. And Turtles most likely will move on back to NYC, leaving poor people of Northhampton to be terrorized by this monster.
