View Full Version : Would anyone want to see the original cut of the film?

We know a lot of things got changed in the development of this film. We know the original cut had:

A darker tone
Sacks as Shredder
The create heroes storyline
Pete Ploszek voicing Leonardo
Danny Woodburn voicing Splinter
The Mutagen being used on the Foot
Raph in disguise
Foot Solider Hari Kari/Sepuku scene
Vern in the sewer lair
April and Vern vs the Foot
Kevin Eastman's cameo
April getting her job back
Turtlevan out in the daytime
Extended elevator scene
Shredder in dojo with ninja

Does anyone else want to see a directors cut of this film?

Of course. I'm always down for alternate stuff. While I think most of the things they changed were in fact best left out, it probably would have been a slightly more cohesive film before re-shoots. That's something, I guess. Having heard Woodburn's Splinter in those video games, I'd definitely have preferred him to Shalhoub.

Sure, it might even be a overall better made movie compared to what we got.

Mew

Yes.
It would probably be like a drastically different back story. I would like to see what it would be like with these differences. I wouldn't mind a different back story, just like I don't mind Venus in Next Mutation. I wish it were more sci-fi like Guardians of the Galaxy. With Don being like Rocket Raccoon, but not drinking all the time.
The only Turtle design I don't like is Donatello's, but I wonder what Raphael would look like. The Playmates toy? I don't know. I would like to see it more gritty, with way more blood, swearing, and death. I would like to see William Fichner be Shredder, because he is a GREAT villain.
So yeah, I would like to see it, but I don't know how it would be.

I would like to see more deleted scenes, But it would probably be expensive for the studio to put out, Some of them probably don't have FX.

Yes. In retrospect, they should never have changed Sachs to just be Sachs. :trolleye:

Yeah I guess I'll be up for it, I admit I'm pretty interested in the Mutated soldier storyline; not to mention all the BTS footage that was cut or edited. But at the same time, Jonathan Liebesman did confirm that the script was always under a 100 minutes, so nonetheless I think it still would've had a ton of pacing issues.
But I would really like that see how dark the movie originally was; I have been waiting for a edgy turtles movie for years, but of course Michael Bay had to ruin it. :ohwell:

It can be very interesting how much difference a re-edit can make. It literally could make a bad movie, better, maybe even GOOD! But usually the best re-edits would need at least a small amount of re shoots. So unfortunately its something we will prob never see. But lets hope they take some of these fan responses on board for part two, eh?

Since they seem to have to Keep Sachs because of Fincher's three movie deal, I wonder if we'll even see Baxter at all. Sachs fills his role in this new universe, sadly.

does anyone think in tmnt 2016. we will see more of karai and baxter stockman will be in it this time. I hope so

Sadly, no. We know it will feature Bebop and Rocksteady, and probably Krang and Shredder... and maybe even (ugh) Eric Sachs again. If they even appear, Karai and Stockman aren't going to get anymore screentime or dialogue than they got in the first film. Which is a damn shame. :tgrumble:

IndigoErth
01-13-2015, 03:16 PM
Baxter I wouldn't be surprised to see, though also wouldn't be surprised if the role was relatively minor. Karai on the other hand... questionable if she's even alive. So little attention was given to her though and just left unknown so I guess it could go either way. But if she was able to pull herself out of her damaged vehicle, with prob broken bones and the works, and manged to make it to safety off the side of a cold, snowy mountain and survive...

I would love to see an original cut. I could clearly see every point in the theatrical release where something had been cut out or pasted in, and I think this butchering of the original film so late in the game is what lead to many of the films plot holes. I'm happy Oroku saki replaced sachs, as there was no need to white wash that character in the first place, but just pasting him in without a complete overhaul of the script (just like all the other rewrites) made for some glaring plot holes.

I don't think the original cut would have been perfect, but it clearly would have made more sense. I guess what I'm saying is the original may have been a crappier turtle movie, but a slightly tighter film.

Even with the theatrical cut "as is" there are parts of the film I find enjoyable. As a filmmaker I would definitely be interested to see them side by side for a more complete analysis of what was always bad, and what simply got worse with all the re-shoots.

Seen enough to know I've seen too much.

Editing can't fix the horrible acting and dialog, after all. And that... "script". Given what they had to work with it would literally have to be a completely different movie to be worth it. Nah, no thanks.

There's a lot of shooting and taser-ing but not a lot of actual "martial arts", sorry. They do dumb sh*t like attack en masse wielding guns and then forget they're holding guns and move in one-at-a-time to get their asses kicked, and occasionally swarm clumsily like flies. That's about it.

My favorite character in the franchise and one of my favorite fictional heroic characters period was a Total Bitch.

I suppose you get that when you get your skills from "Ninjas For Dummies", but it's infuriating. Especially when everyone hates your favorite character to begin with.

Like I said elsewhere, a LOT of things about the movie seemed like a cosmic prank, as if someone, somewhere, was making the entire movie just to piss ME off, specifically, doing every single thing possible to make me hate it. Like, every few seconds, "Oh, F*ck you, movie!" It's uncanny. I've literally never had this exact experience.

Then again, I've only seen "Batman and Robin" in five-minute snippets or so, and never to completion. I'm not a sadist. But that was pretty similar, I guess. That movie also felt like the people making it were giving me the finger the entire time.

That film was damn hard on him, sequel better cut him some slack and give him a bit of development rather than just beating him up. (Can we get a Leo fan on that script...)

MsMarvelDuckie

Yeah, we'll save that for Raph in the sequel- he's the "tough" one, after all- he can take it..... :trazz::twink: Just as long as they leave my sweet Mikey alone! (Okay, sweet in MOST versions, at least. Here- well, he could tone down the horn-dog act, but otherwise, I liked him.)

Leo did take it on the chin... but it was at least comforting to see that he was also the one who made all of the sacrifices. LEO took the tazing; LEO rescued April and "that old guy"; LEO dove off the mountain; LEO was the first to go to Splinter's rescue.

I agree that they should have made Leo more badass... but I appreciated that Leo, as the leader, was the one to sacrifice the most. I'm just disappointed that this is probably entirely me just reading into it and not at all the actual intent of the script. :tgrumble:

Leo was awesome in the movie. Gets tazed unconscious/wakes up/immediately back into action/tazed again/keeps going. I prefer my heroes fallible, fallible is more relatable (like early John McClane). Plus it's their first adventure in the real world, of course they're gonna screw up constantly.

"Fallible" is one thing. "Constantly getting smacked around and made to look totally weaksauce" is another. Then again, "Bad-Ass" was Raph's job, can't have anyone encroach upon that. Even though he did a decent job of getting smacked around his own self.

I don't care if it's their "first outing" or not. They took plenty of lumps in the old movie without looking so damn incompetent half the time. "Raph Vs. 100" is one of my favorite fight scenes in any movie ever. He knows he's overwhelmed, doesn't back down, takes out a few, does his best... and still almost gets beaten to death, then thrown through a skylight, and he doesn't "pop back up all bad-ass", he's in a coma for an indeterminate amount of time.

Call me crazy, but I felt that more.

Raph's rooftop scene is my favourite scene in any Turtles movie. But no point comparing everything to the original movie cause everything is gonna pale & the conversation comes to a halt.
The sequel should have a scene where a Foot Soldier shoots a taze at Leo & he catches it by the side, breaks it in his hand, grins, then roundhouses the soldier. They could all be seasoned crime-fighters next time around, cleaning up the city with ease. Until Bebop & Rocksteady show up...

Absolutely. It had actual impact because Raph was vulnerable. He was tough, but he wasn't indestructible - he could be hurt, and potentially killed. That gives the conflict real stakes and weight. You need that. And it makes his eventual recovery and their final battle actually feel earned and important.

What I'd really like to see is an "April's Not a Moron" cut. And you'd only have to change the third act: April, Raphael and Vern have just rescued the Turtles from Sacks' house/compound. But instead of drawing the attention of the Foot Soldiers outside and getting into a high-speed chase down a mountain, April uses her skills and knowledge as a reporter to call the appropriate authorities and tell them about Sacks' plan, sending them geo-tagged photo evidence of Sacks' illegal activities from his Evil Crime Lab and a shot of the Shredder (from when he decided to just walk away) so they'd know what they were in for. Then the Turtles can deal with the Foot Soldiers at the compound while an adequate response team infiltrates Sacks' building and deals with the threat more quickly and efficiently than two unarmed reporters and four teenagers without projectile weapons. The Turtles then rush home to take care of the injured Splinter, and April saves her career by busting a major story and saves the city with journalism.

Are you kidding? She was a moron the entire movie.

First of all, what kind of investigative journalist only has ONE CAMERA on them? And a crappy cell phone camera that she can't even bother to keep charged. HD handycams cost like 200 bucks and are very easy to carry around.

Second of all, spouting out in a meeting with your colleagues and boss that there are magic ninjas running around without a shred of proof is also stupid.

Third of all, going to your boss with what amounts to a blurry photo of Bigfoot as proof is also so, so stupid.

She was a clueless moron the entire movie, and really, really bad at her chosen profession. Which she didn't get back at the end of the movie.

I am definitely kidding you to a certain degree. :twink:

And hey, I totally agree. But it's par for the course with this movie - every single character made the dumbest possible decisions to every single conflict throughout. The "Everything Wrong With" video just got me thinking about it again. (And my wife is a reporter, so my first thought was, "in an emergency situation, what would she know to do?" Because actual reporters have a list of emergency contacts.)

The biggest plot hole of all might be how April managed to get a job at a major news organization in New York City in the first place. It's actually quite competitive, and someone of her skill level would probably end up in rural Idaho.
