Filming for the TMNT sequel will begin in April at NYC, The Producers also talk about Bebop and Rocksteady.
http://collider.com/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-2-filming-details-friday-the-13th-reboot/
"We designed and we did lots of work on all of them and then only so many fit in the box and luckily we have another chance to make another one of these movies and some of those characters that got cut out of the first one can make it into the second one.”
"We’re in prep right now. We start shooting in New York in April.”

Nice :D
I predicted that they would start filming in May so I was a month out.
I guess we will start seeing news on any new actors joining the movie in the next few weeks.

More focus on secondary characters? Give Eric Sachs a rivalry with Kari. Give Taylor more than a couple of scenes. Give the proper amount of screentime to Bebop,Rocksteady,or Casey Jones if included. Less April would be nice or atleast not force the focus on her.

Please by some miracle of human nature (no, wait, the reverse of human nature) please let the new script/completed film be at least 65-75% GOOD (or better!), does not include any full blown "wtf" ideas, and at least gives the Turtles and history a moderate amount of respect (or more!). It's a lot to ask, I know, but should they not be capable of it, or worse, capable of only less... then may the turtle gods smite them. Raining Galapagos upon their heads would be sufficient.
Anyone else getting a Ghosts of BlueDoor Past vibe here?
I hope so. I know they said Bebop and Rocksteady are gonna be in it, but I'd like to see Krang, too. I dunno if he's confirmed.

Bebop & Rocksteady ? Meh. Overrated characters. Too much CGI characters anyway. Give us good ol Casey Jones. Don't care who they fight.
B&R means return of the Shredder and the foot clan. Shredder is back with a vengeance. He created his own mutants.
I can see the tagline : "To fight mutants he created mutants of his own". Sounds familiar...So what ? It's what Hollywood calls a formula.

Yeah... I mean, I'm not pooh-poohing the idea just for the sake of being negative; it just seems to me that they're throwing in all the stuff that they wanted to do in the first place with the Blue Door script, rather than sitting down and thinking about what a logical continuation from the story we currently have would be.
As I've said previously, we've already got Sachs and Shredder, plus Baxter waiting in the wings, and maybe Karai (unless she vanishes for the sequel). I can't imagine that they'd put Bebop and Rocksteady in and not include Shredder, and given Fichtner's three-movie contract, I don't see them putting him on the shelf for a sequel. So we're basically at 4 villains already for the second movie - two of whom are dumb henchmen and the other two of whom aren't properly fleshed out because they were both supposed to be the same character in the first place.
To my mind, it would've made more sense to just do something interesting with Fichtner for a sequel, and leave Bebop and Rocksteady out of it. Their inclusion just seems like blatant "Oooh, fans like X... so let's put X in the movie just so they'll pay to see it!", without thinking about the big picture.
I mean, if they wanted big action slamfests with mutant-on-mutant for the sequel, there's no reason that they couldn't mutate Fichtner. I don't see why he needs to stay human - he's basically just Rich Evil Human dude, and he doesn't even serve any purpose as their frontman for public relations after his involvement in the events of the first movie. Mutate him into a giant super-freak and make him big enough that it's going to take all four of the Turtles working together to bring him down.

This film is all about Bebop & Rocksteady, for me. They're the main event of this sequel. I'm confident they'll be a blast. Casey Jones worries me cause I have the feeling they're gonna cast him wrong, I don't want even more focus put on humans & his inclusion could just equal that cringey "romance" sh*t that the Transformers films are filled with.

Leo656
01-14-2015, 08:33 PM
What's funny to me is, some of the same people who think Dawn of Justice is going to be rushed and crammed are completely behind this project. I'm not saying just here, it's lots of places. It just goes to show you how some people don't really know how to process information.
How they're going to make a "better movie" by doubling-down on all the stuff that ruined the first one is a serious mystery to me. I doubt the studio is going to allow twice the budget to accommodate twice as much CGI, for example. Or add another hour to the runtime to make room for all these new characters AND give us more of the Turtles, as some people are so positively certain is going to happen.
Fact is, it's either going to be 2 hours and 15 minutes MINIMUM on a $300 million budget, or it's gonna be a rushed hack job. Just math, homies. Just math.

Just basking in the faint, dim glow of what tiny crumbs exist of willfully faked naive optimism... at least until something leaks that makes 3/4 of the community go "Oh, ****." :trazz:
Does make me a little concerned that it starts production so soon, that damn script better be amazing. Although on the plus side, I suppose starting so soon gives them more room for error, and appropriately tweaking it in a way that works better (rather than a half assed patched up job), should any truly bad ideas get leaked to the public.
I do look forward to seeing how Bebop and Rocksteady turn out though. Seeing as I'm not really attached to them, but I know some are, including I'm sure some that were very in support and defensive of the first film. If they screw those two up... eek. But I'll just grab the popcorn and watch the debates. lol
Leo656
01-14-2015, 09:29 PM
Calling it now, they're going with the "Do we really NEED a script?" method. They know they have a "win" just by having Bebop and Rocksteady in it. They've already sold people. Nothing else they do means anything.
They'll write some stuff down, I'm sure, but they're not going to spend a whole lot of time on it, because they don't have a lot of time. Most of it will probably come from stuff they threw out the first couple times, when they were working on the last one. That's what usually happens.
Which is whatever, that's the business. But anyone who thinks they're putting this thing together with any kind of TLC is kidding themselves.

In the interest of fairness, lest anyone give me any sh*t... "Man of Steel" was essentially made from taking a bunch of old scripts out of a drawer and stapling pages from each one together with a few notes in red pen crammed in the margins, then calling it "One Script", and in my opinion, it was a good movie. So it can work.
It's just not under any conditions the RIGHT way to make a movie or tell a good story. But sometimes it turns out okay. I just think in this case, time and money are going to work against them.

I could be willing to agree to him getting pretty much everything he wants... IF he'd take back the part about Knoxville. :trazz: Until/unless it's known otherwise, will still be hoping that Leo's physical actor gets to voice him this time.
Ok, I still do hope they listen to fans, but particularly during this span of time between last summer and production of the next, and carefully consider some things. Legit stuff, not stupid things like the unnecessary title change. But I can see they went for that one because it was easy. The time for making changes is before stupid stuff is recorded.

They won't even do that. Gonna be a big dart board with lots of crappy movie tropes and a blank in each one. Each dart that hits a trope will be written into the script with one of the character's names in the blank.

Not sure about this, R&B seems to be a given at this point that they will show up, it adds two more cgi creatures.
Maybe they are rushing into filming to keep the budget the same, as they think that way the Turtle models won't need any re-tweaks, hence those four (six with Splinter and Shredder) cgi models are already finished.

I wanna say that I'm excited for the sequel. But I really feel like this instead.
http://i.imgur.com/9zLwQ.gif
Sometimes the sequel "one ups" the original movie. However, *IMO here* TMNT has yet to accomplish this feat. SotO had its charm, but it never quite topped the original. *I blame Super Shredder. Still wonder to this day as to where in the hell they were they going with that idea.*
The same can be said about the second Transformers movie. I had it...and watched it one time. It was an okay movie, but I liked the first movie way better.
So, I'm crossing my fingers here that I won't feel the same way about 2016 TMNT like how I felt about TF2 and 2014 TMNT.
I *to this day* still haven't seen 2014 TMNT due to..lack of interest. The trailers just left me feeling "..meh" and although I sorta wanted to see it in theaters, that curiosity fizzed out.
I am curious as to how the CGI crew will handle B & R, and possibly Krang. Maybe I might go out and actually see Bay TMNT 2016. But * as of now* I'm still feeling about the same concerning the sequel as our boy Arnie feels about smiling.

Everytime I see one of your posts, you're either being overly sarcastic or quoting someone and adding sh*tty little gifs in response. Everyone has prick moments on this board (I'm guilty) but for you it seems to be nothing but. I know you hate the first movie & you've already made up your mind about the sequel but I don't see what that has to do with talking to people like sh*t. You never contribute anything positive. Even others who hate the movie add what would/could be fun & engage in fun convos/debates. You just state that something sucks, and then you're gone. Please sort it out, dude. Good for you. I admire that. I gave in, out of sheer curiosity. I had this idea of how it would be bad, or wrong, but even I was wrong. It wasn't bad, it was uncomfortable.
The best way I can describe it is this; It's a lot like hearing your favorite song, sung at a karaoke bar, by someone who can't keep time, and doesn't know the words. The singer acts like their delivering the performance of their lives, but their voice is pitchy, and mostly flat. Halfway through, it's the lyrics to a different song entirely.
In the end the audience claps anyway, because they liked the song the singer chose, not the performance. In their heads they know how that song actually goes, 'cause everybody knows this song, but it's cheese, so you'd never admit to it out loud.
The singer sits down, and their friends slap them on the back, with a resounding "Hazzah!", but as soon as they make for the restroom, their "friends" role their eyes and have a few laughs.
It's not so bad it's good, it's not a just turn your brain off and enjoy the ride kinda film; it has no laughs at all.
The action is bland, the plot is thin, the cinematography is shakey and boring, and the actors are impossibly broad.
It really could have been another movie altogether. If you swapped out the character names, and wore a blindfold, you'd have no ideas this was a TMNT film. None.
I will say this for the second film, they have Dave Green. That could be a big plus. From the little bit on his Vimeo, he appears to know how to tell engaging stories. If the producers can just get the **** out of the way, and the writers work with him, he might do something better than the first. He's a kid, but he seems to be a very very bright kid.

Wow. A 2016 release? Yeah, I'll go see it. I've always wanted Krang to show up in a liveaction movie. I hope he's in the sequel, but can wait if they decide to put him in III. Bebop and Rocksteady ought to be cool too.
and in June this time.

So curious how those two end up turning out.
Little worried about the concept of the Turtles supposedly having to lean extra human-looking this time around for reasons of speaking and emoting. Either they're going to have to backtrack on those claims or design some pretty funky looking warthog and rhino snouts. Maybe they just won't have a lot of dialogue?
Won't be surprised if they're pretty grotesque though.

Okay, we never had a chance to finish our casting discussion, and seeing as we're off topic anyway...
You really pick left field choices for different characters, so I'm intrigued. Who would you cast for the Following in TMNT 2: April (not Fox), Casey, B&R, and just cause he's in your avatar, and I really like that character, Pidgeon Pete.
Give reasons!
Okay, I take my fan-casting very seriously :trazz: I have to think appropriate & feasible choices (not dream choices) otherwise it's not as much a challenge.
April: Kat Dennings, Alexandra Daddario, Amanda Seyfried, Camilla Belle or Leighton Meester. Notice these are not great actresses. But they have their charm, they're gorgeous, they're better actresses than Fox and it's plausible that they would replace her in a Ninja Turtles sequel.
Casey Jones: I was pushing Aaron Paul on another thread. Then I watched Need For Speed. Action films are not his forte. Cam Gigandet or Toby Kebbell. Gigandet has a permanent expression on his face that says I've-been-up-to-no-good, he's got the physique, he can seem dangerous (watch The Experiment) and he'd have chemistry with Fox. Kebbell may not be traditionally handsome enough for what I assume PD would go for but he's a kickass actor (he stole Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes) & would make an awesome Jones.
Bebop & Rocksteady: Wesley Snipes & Danny McBride. Blade and Kenny Powers would be a hilarious duo as the warthog & rhino. They could also be intimidating together. They're not big enough stars that mo-cap is out of the question. They could do that or just lend their terrific voices.
Pidgeon Pete: Justin Roiland. May be obscure but if you've watched Rick & Morty or any of his other crazy cartoons, you know the guy can do manic & pathetic at exact the same time. He's also insanely funny.
Your turn!

People like you are ruining the forum, simple.
Can't find the door? Could always just stay in the private "Pro" group if people discussing dissenting opinions offend you so greatly. I know, makes too much sense.
I know why *I* am so opposed to this series and others of its ilk. I take movies seriously. Maybe "too seriously" but that's my prerogative. I don't have money to support BAD film versions of things I enjoy, so if they want my dollars, they can't just "show up" and slap a brand name sticker on it. Further, resources are finite in the business, as well. Only so many movies can be made every year. For every sh*t movie that gets made - and god forbid, CELEBRATED - there are other, more deserving movies, ones that could possibly be of substance, that can NOT be made.
There are already far too many bad movies, and I'm not an enabler. Simple enough? It infuriates me that consumers will celebrate anything from mediocrity to flat-out swill, defending it as "just entertainment", whereas entertainment doesn't have to be Simple Things For Simple Minds. And many of those same people, when confronted with something of substance, will often avoid it entirely for fear it will be "boring" or something.
The fact that people seem to increasingly insulate themselves ONLY with "lowest-common-denominator" entertainment angers and frightens me. It's not JUST this movie. It's "Twilight". It's "Dancing With The Stars". It's Nicki Minaj. It's the fact that Crap is EVERYWHERE already, and if you want anything actually GOOD, you have to go on a goddamn scavenger hunt.
It's been said for centuries that you can tell everything you need to know about a society by how it entertains itself. Well, from all outward appearances, we are now a society that celebrates Junk. Not merely "enjoys" it, as we all do from time to time. But PRAISES it. That, to me, is seriously troubling. People could argue I take "entertainment" too seriously, but maybe those same people might take a look at themselves and wonder what is exactly so bad about someone wanting things that are more than just Fluff.
Too many people accept "good enough" when they need to aim higher.

Back on Topic
Since they are filming in NY again.
I wonder what sort of big set pieces will they bring in the sequel, The snow chase and the rooftop fight were the two big ones in the first movie.
With Bebop and Rocksteady involved, The battle would have to take place in the streets of NY, Maybe with some collateral damage. The world doesn't know who they are yet, The battle could take place either in daylight or nighttime.
This also presents another possibility that the world, would get its first exposure to Mutants, If Bebop and Rocksteady show up, and causing a considering amount of damage to the city.
The Turtles would have to take them on, and stop them from hurting more people.

It's been said plenty of times before, but I too hope Ploszek gets to do the voice this time around. When I first heard about Knoxville's casting, I was fine with it, but I ended up not caring for his voice at all...
"we'll convert you".
I think it's funny they anticipate that people hated the movie. They know the score.
Did they actually say that?
Here's the thing: they had already had a chance to convert us. And they talked a big game then, and almost everything they promised was a complete lie. And the sequel's being made by almost entirely the same people. Why would anyone believe them this time?
why do i have a strong gut feeling..this announcement was made without a script even started or not even completed
The first movie was cobbled together around a single action set piece (the mountain scene that's been in every draft while the rest was repeatedly torn apart and pieced back together around it), so I really doubt working from a solid script is a priority here. The story was clearly considered disposable - all that mattered was the brand name and delivering a Transformers/Bayhem-style spectacle.
That's the thing. It could be a good thing, but even the best directors can make terrible movies if all the other pieces are working against them. Film is collaborative. Even the best director out there can't save a movie from a bad script, bad producers and bad editing. It's all gonna depend on whether the writers and producers have learned their lesson, but I have pretty serious doubts about that. They're welcome to prove me wrong, but I'm not gonna buy a ticket to find out.

If I had to recast the role as it is? Mary Elizabeth Winstead for April.
http://www.gonewiththetwins.com/pages/interviews/2007/interviewscreenshots/grindhouse04.jpg
She's not too far off from the general "look" (at least in this picture), but she's a muuuuuch better actor, has a lot of genuine charm, and is more attractive to boot. I'd immediately take her 1000x more seriously as April than Megan Fox.

I think the characters in the first movie was great. the designs of Splinter, the turtles, the foot clan looked awesome and shredder looked the best. shredder's armor kinda looked like the 2003 cartoon shredder. so Bebop and Rocksteady should look great in tmnt 2 2016.

Funny how it's only the people that liked the movie that think so.
I've had quite enjoyable conversations with folks here. Folks who don't have sticks up their asses every time somebody insults something they like that is bad.
Also, not that you'd notice or care because it doesn't fit your victim complex narrative, I'm quite super positive on the cartoon over in the cartoon board.
No, I've noticed it too. I don't have a "stick up my ass" about the movie (liked it, but admit it had flaws), but seriously, can't you say something besides snarky, sarcastic comments directed at not just the movie, but the people who liked it, TOO?! It really IS getting old, boring, and petty.
If you're so positive about the cartoon, and don't like the new movie (WE GET IT ALREADY!!!) why keep coming in here to repeat the same trite snide remarks ad nauseum?
So curious how those two end up turning out.

I get it, but I'm not a fan of censorship. True things don't stop being true just because they're repeated or make some people uncomfortable.
Basically, nobody can "legally" tell anyone to shut up for saying they did or didn't like it. Anyone from either side can technically make their point as many times as they wish. As irritating as some people on either side may find it.
Basically, if it were up to me, you could just walk up to anyone who says, "I like Nicki Minaj" and shoot them in the face, just for saying that even Once. But it's not up to me. People need to be allowed to talk.
He's not calling anyone names or personally attacking anyone for liking it. Thus, it's just, "Your extreme dislike is annoying, as is your reinstatement of said opinion." Well, that's still not illegal.
MsMarvelDuckie
01-17-2015, 01:58 PM
Wasn't telling anyone to shut up, just saying we're all tired of hearing the same sarcastic and unproductive comments, and would like a change of pace. Basically, what you said about it being really annoying. I'm ALL for reasonable discussions, as you know, but some people just seem to want to rain on everyone else parade continuously, while not really adding anything of value to the discussion at hand. It's tiresome, and pointless.
And I've had some really interesting and lively debates over this same movie- but the point is that I was willing to at least give the other side their say without belittling them, or their opinions. And at the end of the day that's all any of this is- OPINIONS. And ALL are valid, but some folks think theirs are superior, and that anyone with an alternate POV should be mocked. And it's ridiculous. I may disagree with others here about some things- the movie being one- but I'd NEVER stoop to treating them as inferiors for an OPINION.

They MUST **** them up. it's the Bay prime directive. Bay thinks by adding in more deatil, things in CG look more realistic. The other designs will be more like what we will get...
Alternatively, there is a user on this board who does have some say in the designs. Maybe we could plead with him to listen to the fans?

There has been some pretty atrocious concept art for the Turtles, but everything related to Bebop and Rocksteady has been passable at the very least. And the majority of it has been awesome.
I expect to have problems with the movie, but I don't think the visualizations will be one of them. I loved how everyone (Turtles, Splinter, April, Shredder, and Karai) looked. Well, except for the Foot Soldiers... but that's because PD decided "paramilitary" instead of "assassins". :trolleye:

And at the end of the day that's all any of this is- OPINIONS. And ALL are valid, but some folks think theirs are superior, and that anyone with an alternate POV should be mocked. And it's ridiculous..
Actually, that's not at all true. Not ALL opinions are valid. Again, extreme example to prove a point - kinda my thing - but some people are of the Opinion that the Holocaust was a swell idea and would like to see someone try again. Clearly that person's opinion is Wrong, and if not, I'm... not sure I want to hear the reasons Why Not. They're wrong. They're Just Wrong. Just to establish, conclusively, that opinions can be Just Wrong. People seem to have a difficult time with this concept.
Further, I wouldn't quite mock or belittle someone JUST for their opinion, but I will take a look in how they came to their conclusion and go from there. As far as this particular movie goes, well... frankly, I dismiss any opinion that has nothing behind it other than "I liked/disliked it because I did", which is an uncomfortable number of people. And it's usually people whose Opinions are THAT shallow, that have a hard time when people point out that maybe they're not looking at things objectively. People who go out of their way to reject ANY critical objection/analysis of the movie, and call people things like "haters" for pointing out the numerous things, great and small, that are wrong with it.
Basically, I've noticed that, everything else being equal, people who Didn't like it can give a lot more reasons Why, than people who Did, and are much better at having a conversation about it without anyone's feelings getting hurt. Well, that may suck for people who liked it, but maybe the movie should have been better in the first place? Maybe "I liked it, leave mah movie alone!" by itself isn't worthy of being considered "discussion," "debate", or "discourse"?
Too many people want to argue that the sky is pink and call it "their opinion", then get pissy when people point out that there's holes in their logic. Not Okay. People need to either elevate their standards of entertainment, OR, get a thicker skin if they absolutely insist on liking awful things.
People can like awful things but you also shouldn't pretend they're good just because they're entertaining on a "what am I doing with my life" level.

Totally understandable. However, I don't think that Holocaust example was the best. That wasn't simply an opinion, it was a complete mind-set from a very disturbed individual. Tried reading some of his auto-bio once- he was nuts. I think that's quite a bit different than just liking or disliking something.
That said, there were quite a few reasons I DID like it- I actually found the designs pretty good, for one thing. A bit "busy" in the gear, maybe, but otherwise likable. And Mikey's blatant crushing was pretty funny, to me, if slightly over-done. He's a raging ball of teen hormones, who's never been around a female before, so of course he's going to go overboard. And when he wasn't macking on April, he was actually pretty spot-on character-wise, unless we're going full-on Mirage, which I don't. I was kind of relieved he wasn't the dumbed-down Nick version.
The others were all pretty well-done. for me, too. Could've done without Donnie's pack and solar-panel gear, but.... *shrugs* Leo was the "best", and pretty dead-on, too. Liked his voice, and since I've never seen Jackass, I didn't care who it was.
The action was intense, exciting, and fun, and I enjoyed a lot of the humorous moments. Elevator scene. Nuff said. Only REAL problems I had were with Shredder and Sach's plan being kind of obvious from the get-go, but I tried not to put too much logic into that, given the police apparently weren't doing much about the Foot to begin with. I guess this New York is in a bubble-world where the government and other institutions don't exist. I'm okay with that, since it gave the boys a reason to be involved in the first place. Otherwise, they would just be- there? And April's connection at least made their involvement make sense. They inadvertently screwed up by taking her down to the lair. Oops. They made a mistake. I get that. Could've happened some other way, if she hadn't accidentally let the Foot right to them.
My biggest reason for liking it was probably the turtles themselves, but I found things all through the movie that I really liked for their own sake, as well as in context of the film. Story could have been better, but it's no worse than some other comic-based stories or movies I've seen. Middle of the road, I'd say.

Middle of the road, I'd say.

lol. I mean, as brief as it is, Trick has a point.
I share his anger, obviously. I was on Bay's side in the beginning. I still stand behind my claim that BAY can make incredible action films. He can.
But he didn't "make" this film. This is all on Fuller and Liebseman, not wanting to so much make a film, but rather, a product. He stepped in, and tried to fix it, and it still sucked, mainly, because he was on TF4, not giving his full attention to this little remake they were doing, but also because he's not a fan, and I can't blame him. If someone asked me to make a Power Rangers film, it would SUCK HARD. I'm not the guy. BUT if they said, "If you make this Power Rangers film, you'll make Millions of Dollars, and all you need to do is put your name on it", well folks, i'm making that ****** PR film. My millions beat your opinion. Anyone would do the same.
He didn't go after the rights, FULLER did. FULLER asked to involve him. FULLER HAS SAID SO. But they didn't understand what they were supposed to make. They didn't get it, anyone arguing otherwise doesn't get it either. And that is impossibly frustrating.
I feel like other comicbooks are getting their due, while we are getting the scraps. I really do. And I also feel, that the only way to get them to pay attention, is to be as loud as I can, online. What other recourse is there? I can't accept this as the best we're going to get, and i can't accept that better isn't possible. There is a market for quality entertainment, don't kid yourself.
If i'm being absolutely honest, there have only been a handfull of moments in the entire history of TMNT's existence where the brand has actually been great. that's the truth, no matter how you slice it. More often than not, it's been sillified, and made for children. an ingenious idea has been trounced and trolliped, tarted and tainted for decades, because we we're all indoctrinated into as children.
We'll they sowed the oats in our youth, it's time to pay up folks.
The closest thing in recent memory of anything that brought out the kid in me, was Nicks hour long special back in the Summer. I actually thoroughly enjoyed that. I also really really enjoyed the Mirage segment in Turtles Forever. It was so fitting, to end the 4kids days with "oh, you want to see what the real turtles were like? Check this out".
Boom. It was amazing. It was meta. It was perfect.

I hate it when my buddies can't get along. This Movie Ruins Everything.
Duckie: Well, from the other side, I thought that "Everything Wrong With" video could easily have been twice as long and that they left out a TON of things that could have been mentioned. I didn't find ANY of the "humor" funny in the least. The acting was terrible. The dialog delivery was painful. Logical inconsistencies and continuity problems galore. I could go on... and on... and on... I mean, for me, someone who cares as much about How movies are made, just the fact this thing was made with Zero care, by people who HAD zero care, is enough for me to paint it black.
Honestly... ((Deep Breath))... This is as nicely as I can say it: I honestly think someone can ONLY like this movie, if they made up their mind way, WAY before it ever existed that they were going to like it. It. Is. BAD. "It's TMNT" is literally the only "good" thing anyone could ever possibly say about it. Even they WAY they made it - taking one "Big" scene from an early draft and building every single script around it, completely making up the rest of the story on the fly AS they were making it, etc. - is textbook Bad Filmmaking. Even "nitpicky" stuff like "It's sunny, it's pouring rain, it's sunny again and everything's bone-dry"... that's bad. You're Not Supposed To Do That. It's a badly-made film. It is a film that was made badly. People can't just say that's not true. It's entirely true and it's not merely Opinions.
And to me, the example I gave IS fitting, because this is a smaller scale, but at the same time it IS a debate about a mindset, an ethos, that being whether or not people should tolerate/celebrate movies that are Openly Bad On Purpose, because "they're just movies so whatevs, no bigs", or if people, especially fans, deserve something more substantial. My argument? No, you NEVER make a bad movie on purpose, and as a fan, you damn sure don't eat it with a smile, you throw it back in their face and demand they do better next time. Others disagree and are more casual about it. Fair enough. But since they seemingly care so little about the quality of their entertainment, or whether or not any kind of thought or effort goes into it, it begs the question why they like Anything. I mean, is it like kittens with string? "I just like it, and I don't know why, I just do?"
That's... "Better"? "Nicer"? "More Positive"? Not... not really.

either put me on ignore or or grow the hell up.
You first. I can take plenty of criticism about a movie- can't stand rude and snotty attitudes, though. It's uncalled for. And I can be sarcastic to people, too- I just generally choose NOT to. There's such a thing as courtesy- didn't you know? Here's a thought- if you hate it so much, why keep posting about it? Or even be in this sub-forum at all? Yeah, THAT makes about as much sense as Sach's plan.... (See, I can do the sarcastic movie comment, too.)

I wouldn't be surprise if he shows up in some form of mutation. When he fell, He still had that canister of Ooze.
Think he also had a touch of it on his finger.
Now what that's supposed to imply when he's wearing a largely impenetrable suit - that broke the ground instead of himself after the fall - and mutagen that appears to require injection... who knows. I suppose it's magic human-healing powers saved him through the suit.

I don't agree with you 100%. I think it's more accurate to say that the most public aspects of the Ninja Turtles have been the sillified juvenile series: Next Mutation, the movies, and the Fred Wolf cartoon. All of the comic series (Mirage, Image, IDW, even Adventures) were serious and aimed at adults as much as teens. And those are the ones people never know about, in my experience.
The Fred Wolf cartoon is a huge double-edged sword. Without it, I don't think TMNT would ever have seen life as more than Mirage Volume 1. Fred Wolf popularized it and marketed the HELL out of it. But it did so at the cost of TMNT's credibility and appeal to mature audiences. And so we are forever damned by "Cowabunga" and pizza. Bittersweet.

The thing is, How do they know the Mutagen has magical healing powers, When they tested on the Turtles, We saw what resulted, Eric Sacks was surprised by the result of the mutagen, So with that knowledge, He can create a army of Super Soldiers for the Foot Clan.

Yeah, exactly, and probably another thing that cinema sins video should have pointed out. Sacks runs off with that canister, set on having his plan back in action after drawing mutagen out of the Turtles who...I can only assume were not an expected result? So the mutagen that was lost within them when the lab was destroyed was not yet perfected or human tested, but now it's suddenly fine... righhhhht.
Although the Turtles supposedly used the mutagen to save Splinter, so maybe they did swipe the canister? Leaving Shredder with only the dab on his finger. I guess he could use that small sample to try to recreate it, maybe.

You both make some good points, I'll say that up front. But I feel like TMNT as a whole is much broader than any one incarnation, has more to offer, and can be enjoyed by anyone. Kiddified or not, any version can appeal to more than just kids- but people tend to treat it as if the versions for kids are inferior for that reason alone. They're not. They just appeal to us on a more basic level. We grew up in a time when kids were largely ignored save as a source of money for toy-sales. Yeah, I'll say it- kids in our time were basically invisible when they weren't being hawked to. Kids now are practically worshiped- that's a HUGE change in the last 30 years. So we get what is "fitting" for the time.
And as long as parents continue to coddle their kids, that's exactly what it's going to be for EVERYTHING. Not the fault of the movies or media, it's more the fault of parents themselves and how they put their kids onto a pedestal and try to keep them from being harmed even by proxy. Sad, but true. So this movie being a "product" from producers who just want to make a buck off kids is a simple by-product of what the parents themselves are doing- kiddifying EVERYTHING just so their kids will be "safe" and "happy", without having to experience anything dark or sad or violent. We're living in the "perfect" time for kids, but pretty much mind-numbingly dumbed down for everyone else- and the sad part is, we did it to ourselves as a society.
Leo- truth be told, I went into that film with very low expectations, after all the horrible leaked info that came out- and came OUT of the movie feeling relieved that it wasn't as bad as I had feared. (YMMV, of course.) I was on the fence for a LONG time, and it wasn't until the trailers that actually SHOWED the turtles that I was actually beginning to be optimistic. After over a year of cringe-worthy "news" and the leaked script and all the other nonsense, I'm kind of glad it wasn't as bad as what I was led to believe from all that. But I kept an open mind about it. And was mildly surprised.

Well it's purpose was to cure a specific disease.
Maybe it's my fuzzy memory but wasn't he trying to recreate a cure that could repair bodies on a cellular level. The turtles seem to be the under the impression it could heal Splinter of his injuries and did not to mention we could probably chalk off their ability to instantly heal after flexing out bullets to it too.
Of course as someone said it seems it has to injected for it to work or maybe a tiny bit leaking through metal could cure Shredder of his injuries but conveniently not his scars.

Duckie: I disagree with that as well. "This is made for kids" is code for "This is trash and we know it, but they won't, because kids are stupid." Now, *I* personally have no problem saying that kids are stupid. Everybody should know that kids are basically just half-baked not-yet-people whose brains are still mostly mush. But I don't like the idea of paying someone to prove that and enabling them to spend the GDP of several small countries every year making sh*t movies under the battle cry of "Kids Know Dick." Honestly, I would strongly argue, that PDMT isn't for them. It is for us. Let's be real about who they were marketing to. The nostalgia crowd, who will bring their kids, and Millenials, who like to get high before watching things, and just turn of their brain.
My friends kid is 6. He asked me which film he should go and see with his son, GOTG or PDMT. You know what? I said neither. GOTGreally wasn't a kids film, and Neither was TMNT. But GOTG had heart, PDMT didn't even have that.
I didn't dissuade him because I disliked PDMT. I did so because, it just wasn't a kids film. Happy Feet, is a kids film. TMNT II is a kids film. I can't in good conscience suggest a 6 year old watch either film that have jokes about masturbation, or clear sexual overtones. I also don't think an abundance of violence is fun for the parents after the fact, when lil' Johnny is beating the crap out of his sister cause he's all wound up.
9, 10, 11, fine. Their on the edge of their teens, and well, we have the Internet. It's hard to even define them as kids still at that age in our world. But a 6 year old kid? not so much.

In my first fanfic I ever wrote back around 2000 I made it a specific point to mention that the mutagen in my interpretation had the ability to heal injuries and cure/prevent disease. These f*ckers owe me money. I mean, more than they would have if I'd actually paid to see the F'n thing.
And yeah it's definitely not a "kids" movie. It's juvenile, but that's different. They tried to have their cake and eat it too by saying, "Well, it's for kids!" once they realized most fans over a certain age were going to rip it apart. They definitely didn't design it as a Movie For Kids.

Leo656, do you read the IDW comics at all? I personally feel like it is the best iteration of the TMNT yet (my gripes with some of the artwork aside), even better slightly than the Mirage/Image series taken as a whole. Just curious.
I can't fault you for your opinion, though. The Nicktoon and the 2014 movie present depressing evidence to support your "it's-all-downhill-from-here" viewpoint.

I've got like, the first five or six issues and I liked a lot of it and didn't like some of the rest of it. I have to say I haven't seen enough to have a Real Opinion of it. Keeping up now and then with a little of what's been going on, there's stuff I Really Like that sounds interesting, and stuff that sounds Really Bad. On the whole I have heard it's the "best" version of TMNT going right now but I haven't seen it for myself. If I could afford comics right now, TMNT wouldn't be the top of my pull list (other than the Ghostbusters crossover, and I'm completely biased in that regard). I can't afford any comics, period, but those were some of the last ones I did pick up. I did read enough to know it's not my "favorite" version, though.
Regardless of how good the IDW series is, it really doesn't matter, because Nobody Reads Comics and those versions aren't the "real" versions of the characters/mythology in the public's eye. And the current "real" versions - the movie and the Nick show - both have a TON of things wrong with them, like, to the level that I wouldn't be quick to "out" myself in public as a TMNT fan right now.
There's a lot of public awareness of the brand right now, but... a lot of it is Negative. A lot of it is, "Yes, TMNT endures... as a Simple Lark for Simple People." There's a lot of people mocking the fans in a slightly passive-aggressive way, even simply by saying, "C'mon, it's TMNT, it's cheesy/stupid, what does anyone expect?" It's still negative, it's still mocking. The movie reinforces a lot of that kind of thing. Yet, it's as good a movie as we could have, should have, or should ever expect to see given the current status of the property. They kind of "can't" do any better. I get that. I just completely hate it.
Like 42 said, other comics have been granted their "Cred" by Hollywood and The System. We're stuck forever in this, "Aww, you like TMNT? That's cute, you're an adorable little man-child, aren't you?" type of quagmire. And some people want it that way. Some "fans" are okay with that. I'm not okay with that. 42: I disgaree vehemently. So long as Nick owns it, and TMNT exists only as a corporate entity... we're past the Best Parts. It's over. Things went from Punk Rock to Stadium Rock. There's no going back once that happens. Just a sad, steady decline and a lot of "Remember When?" The best is not, indeed, yet to come. Everyone can argue about what "The Best" was, but I'm almost positive that we've seen it. At best, everything from now on will just be remixed and half-assed versions of what they've already done before, and at worst, Nick will just stick it on a shelf for a decade-plus once they get bored with it, because that's what they do.
But I don't like the idea of paying someone to prove that and enabling them to spend the GDP of several small countries every year making sh*t movies under the battle cry of "Kids Know Dick." Then we ALL suffer.
I wasn't saying specifically that it was MADE for kids, but that it was "kiddified". Like everything else in nostalgic cartoon franchises these days. And it's true- everything has to be marketable to kids, lest they feel left out. An occasional fart joke or what-not aside, the rest of the movie- along with pretty much every other kids' franchise film- is geared toward the lowest age demographic possible given the rating. IE- they probably only made it PG-13 BECAUSE of those minor jokes, when they should have just tried harder to make it for older audiences in the first place. Most of that stuff besides the fart joke went right over kids' heads anyway. And yeah, most kids these days ARE pretty dumb- I've seen ample proof of it working in fast-food, where parents take kids all the time. It's shocking how little sense some of the tykes have.
Honestly, I would strongly argue, that PDMT isn't for them.
Oh, I agree, actually. By no means was it meant for LITTLE kids. 9-13, maybe, but certainly not 6. I was referring to the whole concept of kiddifying movies and other media (read- dumbing it down or basically doing it half-a$$ed or just not stepping back for a "is this actually "GOOD" moment after making it) when it comes to film-making and entertainment in general. This is what the world has come to, unfortunately. And given the way kids today are coddled, it's probably not going to end any time soon.
I'd say it was for tweens and above, if anything- which is funny because the tweens are the age LEAST likely to still be interested in TMNT, as it's not "cool" enough anymore at that age. Juvenile, yes- definitely at times. Some parts more than others, but certainly geared toward an age where that sort of thing is still amusing to a kid. (And yeah, even I like the occasional low-brow humor, sometimes. Just not ALL the time. Then it just gets old.)
Hells, YES! IDW has been amazing, and incorporates all the BEST of things like the OT series, while still managing to be reasonably mature. I love the tight story-telling, the character development, and the designs in it. BEST TMNT EVER.
I've literally said over and over again that I don't give a flying f*ck if you like the movie or not. I do not care.
Not going to stop me from calling it a sh*t movie when I feel like it. If you can't handle that, I don't care.
And I don't care that YOU don't care if I like it. It means absolutely nothing to me. Actually, I don't even care if you like it or not. So I guess that makes us even. What I do care about is treating other people's opinions with RESPECT. I'll say it again. RESPECT. It's how people are supposed to treat others, even those they disagree with.

...no one has to respect somebody else's opinions if they don't want to. That's not how it works. I can respect your right to HAVE an opinion, but I definitely do not have to respect the opinion itself.
That's just silly. Because opinions can be wrong.
MsMarvelDuckie

And therein lies your problem. Not respecting a person's opinions is the same as saying you don't respect THEM. Since it comes FROM them. It's about treating a person as an equal, and not belittling something they believe in or think, just because you disagree. THAT is respect. A person IS their ideas/opinions/etc. That's what makes them an individual- if you don't respect what makes them a person, then you do NOT respect the person. THAT IS how it works. Hardly naïve- don't assume you know anything about me. I simply believe that respecting a person includes respecting their beliefs and opinions, whether you AGREE with them or not. You have every right to dislike something and say so. Just as I have every right to disagree- without telling you that you are "wrong" for not liking it. Because THAT is "wrong" in itself. How can you not see that? Right or wrong, people deserve to be treated as human beings, not as lesser creatures just because their opinions differ. It's something I've learned through hard experience, and not something I take lightly.
Whatever, you obviously think yours is the only "right" opinion, whether it's true or not.

I'm a bit worried that they are starting the second film so soon. It just feels very rushed. It's impressive that they've been able to write it, design all the stuff for it, cast it, etc., so fast... but with such a fast turnaround it makes me wonder how much thought they are putting into it all.
On the other hand, if it ends up being better than the first one, it would be cool to see them crank these out every 18 to 24 months. Bring on the sequels.

Not sure about the time-frame but it was only a year or so, wasn't it? I remember they were pretty close together, too. That makes this a bit disheartening, if they are rushing the next one.
And you may be right about that last part. Seriously, though, I think I'm done with his "your opinion is wrong" crap. Some folks don't get that their own opinions are no more "right" than anyone else's. I blame our current "age of entitlement".
As for the comment from Boston, I agree that it IS our generation that is responsible, but mostly because our generation of kids were "ignored" by society in general as irrelevant and not being important (except to toy companies), and now many have gone to the other extreme in a kind of retaliation against it. Now kids are to be worshiped and treated as if they were in charge, not the parents. Nostalgic pampering to make up for what they missed, I guess.

And everyone needs to realize, as long as TMNT is with Platinum Dunes, we're never gonna get a "good" film. We're gonna get frivolous summer action flicks. And that's what starts filming this April: another frivolous summer action flick. Yes, some summer action flicks are also great films. They're rare and PD TMNT will not be one of them (unless Dave Green somehow turns out to be a creative force of nature). Either you can do yourself a favour & accept the reality or keep hoping for better and be disappointed & angered every time. All the we-can-make-a-change stuff isn't really true. We can make a change when the first trailer comes out & fans dislike an element they see & reshoots happen. Other than that, this sequel is gonna be Bebop & Rocksteady fighting the Turtles & throwing cars at them/explosions/Casey & April kissing/end credits.
Leo656

Didn't they also admit that the movie simply wasn't done? That due to reshoots and tweaking the CGI, they ended up working on finishing it way past the original hoped-for opening date anyway? They were definitely under the gun those last couple weeks. It was always gonna end up being August.
The fact they have less time to actually make the movie but have twice as many CGI characters to work in doesn't bode well for whether or not it will be rushed.
Duckie: It has nothing to do with "entitlement". Some opinions are wrong. You're both friends of mine. Just walk away from this one. Some opinions are wrong. They can be "right" to the person holding them but completely Wrong in any sense of reality. That's been repeatedly pointed out, and some of the examples have nothing to do with movies, so I'd prefer not to drag it out because this isn't the place to have those kind of moral/ethical debates. Some People have beliefs that are Completely, Irredeemably Incorrect. And saying "it's their opinion" doesn't in any way excuse or reverse the fact that their "opinions" are entirely Wrong.
That right there is the root of this disagreement you're having with Trick. This isn't even about the movie anymore, it's about whether or not people can say anything they want, true or false, and say "Well it's my opinion" to excuse/justify all of it. The answer is, No, people are entitled to their own opinions but not their own Facts. And the further away from reality someone's "opinion" is, then yes, they start to deserve a certain level of scorn, simply for not being in touch with reality.
B-Man: That's over-simplifying things. You haven't been here long enough to know that Trick actually has, at length, had many discussions about the movie ranging from "civil" to "serious" to flat-out hostile, but that's his prerogative. What I'm seeing here - being friends with both parties, mind you - is this has suddenly become a debate about whether Opinions are irrefutable, and frankly, that's nonsense. All you need to do is ask almost anyone in Connecticut for their "opinions" about people of color to see that, no, a LOT of people have completely worthless opinions that have zero merit or value whatsoever. Again, extreme example. Point stands, a LOT of opinions are F'n wrong. I'm getting a little flustered trying to illustrate this, myself, I just think I have a little more patience than Trick. But it shouldn't be this hard to make that simple - yet vital - point. "Opinions" don't mean sh*t, sometimes you're not right, and that's life.

Basically ready to hang it up and say "adios" to this franchise. The "new" parts of this franchise aren't for me. He's right, "it's never going to get any better". Well, rather than watch something I once loved circle the drain, and pay money for the privilege of having my intelligence insulted, I've basically decided that I'm no longer a "fan". At least not of any "modern" TMNT incarnation.
I also think people who call themselves "fans" have a responsibility to "protect" what they claim to love, on some level, by being honest and critical when parts of it suck, and not willingly hand it over on a silver platter to a bunch of suits who care nothing beyond a paycheck, but it seems I'm increasingly in the minority. "At least they're still making TMNT!" It's mostly awful, so who cares?
I never thought I'd stop caring about TMNT, but this movie has that special "magic". If all I have to look forward to is more of That, then screw it.

I really hope the sequel doesn't make me feel how a lot of you feel about the first. I don't wanna ever feel that miserable about the Turtles. Dumb action movies with potential for the future can always suprise you and immediately get f*cking worse (Amazing Spider-Man 2/Alien vs. Predator 2/Expendables 2 & 3/Transformers 2 & 4), making you almost nostalgic for the original. Pleeease don't be the case here. I'm keeping my wishes & expectations in check, though. Not asking for much. Just more focus on characterization & more focus on mutants. Not a big ask. Man, if you go waaaaay back like three years, I was optimistic as hell. I even defended Fox up until I actually saw her in the trailers. But I did have fears, things I Definitely Did Not Want To See, and one by one, that movie hit every single one of them, like someone was literally playing an elaborate prank on Me, personally. Things I'd spoken in jest, like them being bulletproof, things that were just, "Ho ho, surely they'll never do THAT", they went and f***in' Did.
Then listening to them talk about the movie and Why they did some of the stuff they did, and it just got so much worse. They're so completely clueless, they completely hold the fanbase in contempt, they're mocking you/us to your face, and nobody seems to CARE very much, so long as they get their movie and their toys.
And it "can't" get any better, and it's all so the opposite of what I want to see from TMNT. Even the Nick show started out with a lot of potential, and it's alright, but sure enough, the thing I hated most and had the least interest in - Donnie/April - became a huge focus and was done in a completely awful way, to the point I lost almost all interest in the show and completely hate Donnie's character (in that show).
I really have no reason to believe I'm suddenly going to be the audience again. But that's SAD! I really like this franchise, I grew up with it, and I've definitely invested more emotion into it than most people. Now, it's actively pushing me away from it. :ohwell: I'll always love TMNT, but... unless something drastic happens, I think my interest in the franchise as an "ongoing" thing has peaked. I literally Do Not Care at all if they ever make another movie, comic, or TV show. Never thought I'd say that, but it's the truth.

The thing is, they had such a golden opportunity to subvert that whole thing and send a really positive message to the young boys watching by having Donnie realize he's being a creepy "Nice Guy", accept that April doesn't like him that way, and move on. And they even seemed to be going in that direction this season until they swerved immediately right back into the love triangle. Hell I remember, when Bay was announced as involved(remember, he was there from the beginning), I was cautiously optimistic because he WASN'T directing.
I distinctly remember thinking "okay, he's just producing, that's fine. that means the movie will have plenty of money, so long as he stays away from the script."
But then aliens instead of mutants and back again, blue door, megan fox, white shredder, huge ugly turtles and it all spiraled out of control.

Yup... And some can continue to assert he wasn't directing and though they may be right, money is power. Foot (pun not intended but suitable) a big part of the bill and they'll probably let you have nearly what ever say you want in it. (Anyone here independently wealthy and able to buy a producer position in it?? :trazz:)
Some producers might know when to butt out, but of course with his company involved and he has control over those within it, there's no way he wouldn't have a voice in matters.
These Turtles might not be pretty and might have diverged from the norm, but I could be kind of ok with seeing a bit more of them (as long as they don't usurp the traditional design beyond their films) if only they could be saved from the people who's hands they are currently in.

AS dorky as it may sound, I vividly remember a dream I had about the upcoming film. I dreamt my aunt had taken me to see the movie (before the release) and that I was excited over it. Okay, maybe it's not vivid, as that's all I remember even after all these years about the dream. lol

Obviously I dont post on here much but still a fan of 25+ years I gotta throw an opinion out there. There were goods and bads with the last one, things I'd love to change and things that were great but the chance is there to really fix it for the die hard fans or play into what made them 500 million overall worldwide up til this point according to imdb.com.
R&b I can do without, how on earth are they gonna do those guys and not make them the blabbering idiots of the 80's?
They could really focus on krang and krang droids and the witty humor that which this krang finds humurous.
We already know we're getting another damn super shredder with ooze landing near shredder at the end of this last one.
Megan fox is a huge tmnt fan so she has to stay along with will although I'm sure we all think whoopi's role was a bit wtf.
I know I'm the only one on earth but make Elias korteas Casey (with some styling to young him back to the 90's look) and with Megan's age we sure cant have a 18 year old doing it by are we realm going to have Casey, will, and Mikey pretending to get in Aprils pants?
If we have to do r&b they have to be serious. Same with actors if they have them. Terry crews for rock and bebop hmmm I dunno pick another expendable that we can throw in purple glasses

Seeing as this is a Platinum Dunes WME joint project, I would expect they will cast from within.
They picked up Dave Green, repped by WME, Fictner is WME, Will Arnett is WME... Etc.
So here is a list of WME actors. B&R will be cast from this list, as will Casey.
So far my Batting average has been 95%, but still, take this with a grain of salt.

Yeah but see, this is where you don't see how much of a business it all is, and how the decisions are really made.
Nothing is art, it's all math. It's not about the right actor in the right role, it's who wants to make how much, likes person x, or doesn't.
over all of that, is the fact that after William Morris and Ari Emmanuel's Endeavour merged a few years back, then got directly involved with Platinum Dunes.
Everything is under one roof. Krasinski is under that roof, and becoming an action star is a huge payday. Krasinski's wife just did it, with Edge of Tomorrow, so now, obviously, he wants to.
Bay is looking for bankable stars that he can still get for cheap. it's a formula he's employed since bad boys way back. TV star + comedian + babe = pay day.
Think about your own life. once you've been at a job for a while, do you care about what you do anymore, or do you care more about how much they pay you to do it.
I still owe you a casting list, of course... I'll post up in a bit.

I'm a Krasinski fan, he seems like a smart dude & his decision was kinda baffling but you've helped it make sense. He auditioned four times & screen tested twice in 2010 for the role of Captain America, only for it to be given to Chris Evans at the last minute (who didn't audition once). He lobbied for the lead of Jurassic World, which ultimately went to Chris Pratt. Those are just the two that were reported. There's probably a few more. Maybe he thought f*ck it, I'll do a Michael Bay movie then. Gotta catch up to the wife somehow :P (he already wins at Life being married to her anyways...). Looking forward to your fan casting!

I read a few times that they might add Krang and Dimension X. Really? Would it kill these people to use the Utroms instead? My main fear is that if they bring in Krang, they'll probably add the technodrome and when they add the technodrome, it will be Transformers all over again.
I can see why R&B are wanted but only because they'd be an even match for the turtles. We really don't need Krang.

It was reported to be 125 million shooting budget although apparently when they did the reshoots it was apparently upped considerably.

More Turtles, more Shredder, more Splinter, More Bebop and Rocksteady, more Krang, more Technodrome... and more story and plot and character development to make it all actually make sense.
You can't have everything! The resources simply aren't there! How anyone actually has Hope for the second one, how any sane person can actually believe that they're going to magically double the amount of CGI characters on a very slightly higher budget and still fit any kind of character development, or any of the backstory they skipped in Part 1 that some folks still swear they were "saving" for the second one... I don't see how anyone can think that. It's just not possible from just the dollars-and-cents perspective. If you liked the first one, the second one will be The Same Thing with more godawful CGI.
I find this extremely insulting, not just to me, but to all TMNT fans. I hate people who think just because they have an opinion that all others must fall into it or are considered stupid and worthless. I enjoyed the new TMNT movie (bring on the intelligence insults, I can take them!) but if you went into the theatre looking for a nostalgia fix you should have expected to be disappointed.
Often what you think of something before you experience is what you will get out of it. After they decided not to make the turtles aliens, I was all for this movie and because of that I enjoyed it. Sure, it was a summer action movie, but it had a good few emotional moments and I thought the turtles were done very well (Raph could need some tweaking). There will never be an art house TMNT film but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy them for what they are.
And like 'modern' TMNT is any different than the classics? Have you watched Secret of the Ooze - or even the original movie - and the OT recently? TMNT has always been cheesy and frankly pretty dumb but I still love it.
What is being held back is not TMNT but yourself.

How does his personal opinion offend you? It has nothing to do with you. No bearing on your life. & He said nothing whatsoever to suggest he had a nostalgia-driven bias. You go on to correct him by saying it was emotional & the characters were handled well, that's your opinion. He doesn't need to fall into it. See what I'm saying? You're doing the very thing you're projecting onto him. That aside, yes, older versions of the TMNT have both cheesy & dumb moments, however, they come no-where near lines like "Drain them of all their blood, even if it kills them!", the array of sexual innuendo, or product placement. & as for that quote at the end, that's complete & utter nonsense. Thinking positively cannot change reality. Being open-minded isn't gonna make any normal person not cringe at that kind of dialogue.

I can understand it though.
I hated the movie just as much as the next guy. I had very low expectations and it turned out even worse than I thought. By all rights I should write off the sequel completely, not just because the first one blew but because anyone can see that they've not got the right base to build on or the right ingredients but yet there's a tiny part of me that thinks that they could turn it around for a sequel despite my overwhelming common sense telling they can't even if they wanted to.
Of the few who enjoyed the movie did so because it was turtles. Most will probably cop that it's a bad movie but will argue that's it's a passable start that can be built on. Clinging to one line from Splinter as proof that it's not only possible but almost guaranteed we'll get some back story involving Yoshi and Saki even though it would be damn hard to work one in with the established origin they gave us or the idea the turtles will feature more prominently in the a movie with extra cgi characters when they could barely afford to feature them as much as they did in this one is ludicrous and incredibly naive but...I get it.
Creatively it would be damn hard, practically it would be almost impossible and yet I can understand the hope.

Not to fight another member's battle but you're response is not relevant to what Leo656 posted. Either you're responding to things he's posted on other threads or this is just you're go-to response to someone who doesn't like the movie.
I have a major problem with the whole argument that the people who didn't like the movie are just nostalgia freaks who hate on the new iterations. Both the Nickelodeon animated series and the IDW series are popular on here and they are "new" versions. We just didn't like the movie because it wasn't good. - heck even the actors are starting subtly voice their displeasure.
I also hate the idea that we should "settle" for a movie that we don't like. If someone flunks a test we don't praise them for a getting two questions right and yet we're apparently supposed to love the movie because they could have been aliens or it got a few things "right" and even then I'm not so sure I agree with some of the assertions the characters were done right.
I don't think citing previous bad versions of the turtles is ever a good argument to promote the current movie. It's not like fans unilaterally like everything that came before the current era. We know there are bad versions, some that are good their time and other that were always bad but it shouldn't the movie a pass. I don't think movie that balances quality and quantity is hard to do. Most of the properties from Marvel and Dc are managing that well but this movie didn't try.
I'm offended by how offended everyone is! (Unless you're offended that I'm offended by your offense, in which case I apologize for offending you.)
Do you have a source for that?

Doubt they get a $200 million budget for the sequel. The box office of the original doesn't warrant that increase. It's not bringing in $1 billion like TF.
I don't understand why the visuals (specifically Splinter) looked as bad as they did with the budget they had. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes had a higher budget ($170 mill) but had a lot more characters that needed VFX work. The visuals for that movie were amazing and realistic. That's not the way budgets work.
Plus they do have a 5th Transformers movie dated for June 2016.

Sorry about my former comment. I'm just really tired of people insulting my intelligence for liking the new movie and his comment was just really irritating to me the way he worded it.
But it's my fault for getting so overworked about it. I just really wish people would respect my opinion as well. It seems that only people who hated the movie have the 'right' opinions. Can't TMNT fans all accept that they are fans of the same thing and not bicker so much?
That's all well & good but none of the things he said are relevant to what you're complaining about, & everyone was getting along fine, so I really have no idea where this is coming from. It's not relevant.

It truly is enjoyable to watch somebody sh*t all over something they purport to love just to defend a piece of crap movie within that same franchise.

I have a major problem with the whole argument that the people who didn't like the movie are just nostalgia freaks who hate on the new iterations. Both the Nickelodeon animated series and the IDW series are popular on here and they are "new" versions. We just didn't like the movie because it wasn't good.
You took the words right out of my mouth. Levying the nostalgia accusation at people who didn't dig the movie is frankly, just clutching at straws.
The Nick show and the current run of comics by IDW have been well-received by the vast majority of old-school fans - and both the show and the comics have made changes.
So it's not that people who didn't like Bayturtles are a bunch of fusty old killjoys incapable of adapting to change, clinging to their MOC action figures as they rock back and forth babbling about the good old days.
It's that the new movie was badly made. End of story. If you enjoy it, that's great. I love heaps of sh*tty movies, myself. But I don't insist that those movies aren't sh*tty, and I don't demand that the rest of the world enjoy them, or pretend that they're exempt from criticism.

It's a shame that it's filming. If it wasn't for Maleficent, it would be the worst film of 2014.

And people somehow think they're gonna get More from a sequel.
It's just not possible from just the dollars-and-cents perspective.

i really think some of you don't understand how Movie Budgets work
to fix everything and add everything everyone thinks they will add/fix youd need AT THE VERY LEAST a 4 hour run time and unlimited Funds
this crew has poor money management skills. exhibit A: Completely CGI Shredder

Here's the bits about TMNT 2.
You have this kind of balancing edge. You said you were moving into this film, moving into that film, moving into NINJA TURTLES. Where do you go from there as a sequel to that? Are we talking Bebop, are we talking Casey Jones?
BF: They’re on the table. Those are characters we talked about putting in the first one and we weren’t able to fit them all in.
AF: There’s a tremendous amount of artwork that was released from the first movie that we didn’t use with Bebop and Rocksteady and Krang and everything. Those were characters we would have loved to put in the first one. Luckily, we are talking about most of those characters for TMNT 2. We start shooting that movie in April so we’re in heavy prep right now.
Does it lessen the pressure that the first one did so well?
AF: Yeah. We’re going to Japan in a couple of weeks for the premiere in Tokyo. It’s our last territory. Home video has been great. But there may be even more pressure now.
BF: It’s not less. There’s definitely not less because now there’s expectations. Before, when we made the movie, there was just a lot of doubting. We felt it. Now to have it do well, you know, the bar’s high.
You couldn’t go online when the first one was coming out without reading all of the doubters.
BF: Oh, I read them all (laughs). I have the scars to show it.
AF: Jimmy knows the pain we felt through prep and shooting and post.
BF: From JoBlo too, you know.
Absolutely.
BF: From your readers.
AF: We feel like, as hard as it was for us to find the tone, and we feel we did find it, you know, infusing that into TMNT 2 now and introducing some new characters and really upping those turtles, we feel we can make a really fun movie for everybody.

I don't know about you guys, but I think the sequel will be a lot harder to f*ck up. With the first film, they were dealing with the central cast of characters, and if they didn't get those right, then all hell would break loose. But this time around, we'll probably be seeing Krang and Dimension X, which are far more open-ended, creatively speaking, so it'll be a lot easier to accept PD's iteration of those things....buuuuut, knowing PD, Dimension X could end up being a military base, for all we know.

ROFL Yeah, you got that right, pal. Writing the first one may have had the buffer zone of hopeful fans knowing next to nothing. Now that you've got blood in the water after the first... Lots of pressure. *evil grin*

Sadly I think there's more of a chance they can F**k up the sequel than the first. In the strictest sense if they can't get the basics right then I don't have much hope of them doing better with the extraneous elements.
Even those who enjoyed the movie will at least grudgingly cop that it was bad a a lot also seem to be convinced that at least it's a passable starting point that they will listen to fan feedback and will correct a lot of the mistakes of the first but I just don't think it's likely.
More focus on the turtles. I think we've already covered how this seems unlikely given their budget.
A more faithful back story. They seem to pin their hopes on one line from Splinter that he didn't remember anything prior to the lab that it was hint that we'll get a back story involving Yoshi and Saki in the sequel. Even without Leibesman's comments about it being too complicated in seems unlikely that they'd fit that in to a movie which has to introduce Bebop and Rocksteady and potentially Casey Jones as well not to mention how to make it fit with the story they've already given. Not impossible but I think if they were inclined to do it they would have done it in the movie dedicated to their origin.
More ninja action. I don't see a movie with Bebop and Rocksteady having a lot of this. This may not be such a big deal if the first movie wasn't lacking in this department.
For me personally I'm one of the few that isn't chomping at the bit for Bebop and Rocksteady to be in a movie. They are henchmen not the main event so I still think they are going to have tack on a battle with Shredder and save the world plot which might not be so out of place in a movie like this but we've already seen a (bad) version of this in the first movie.

Based on the cost of VFX for the Turtles, Splinter, and any more mutants (B&R), I'm feeling pretty hopeful in seeing Casey Jones. They gotta balance out their cast with non-CGI characters, after all...
Unfortunately, that could mean a whole lot of Sachs being generic evil businessman (ugh) and Vern (double ugh) as well. :tgrumble:

Well they did have to go and call them teens, so it could be assumed they might not be full grown yet? :teek: If the second film is set in 2016 and trying to be "realistic," then they're two years older and possibly bigger? Hoo boy...
Will need a new Turtle van, they just barely fit in the one they have now. :tlol:

It'd be nice to see what kind of budget they're working with to make all these things happen, is all I'm sayin'. Roided-out CGI rhinos and warthogs and alien brains and giant Technodromes don't fall outta the sky.
And you can't have all that AND more plot/character development. Not unless the movie's three hours long. Just no way.

Suggestions for the next movie
-Tone down the turtles
-More focus on Donnie and Leo
-No Mikey fart humor
-No military foot
-Have Casey act like the Casey we love
-Tone down Shredder
-April recast or something. Megan Fox is unimprovable, so just scratch her out
-No scary turtle closeups
That's all I have

I'd just say shrink the shells, remove Donnie's gear and give Mikey more of a snout like the rest of the Turtles.
