Funny how the clips they stuck together made it look not bad  Watch mojo are terrible at these vids. Even the ones where they're showing off the years best films, they'll use dull clips to represent them.

I see they used the "ruined Childhood" nonsense and comparing it to the 90's movie stuff. Most childhood shows were half n hour toy commercials

True on what clips they picked to use, including one of my fave pieces.
That thumbnail (cover pic?) though. :teek: What are you waiting for, Raph? Kill it with fire! Or Sais, either works!

While there's nothing that can retroactively ruin a person's childhood when something is marketed heavily as a nostalgia piece with near constant promises and assurances that it would be just like the story and characters we loved as kids if it doesn't live up to that (or barely attempts to) it's a valid criticism.
Also I'll never get why it's frowned upon to compare this movie to other movies of it's kind or specificaly previous TMNT movies. I'd imagine if we were drawing favorable comparisons it wouldn't be an issue.
Also I'm not sure a good argument for an actual TMNT fan is disparage previous iterations. Sadly that's what the promotional team kept trying to do as you saw sites and blogs that have connections to Paramount would constantly use pictures of TMNT III or Coming Out Our Shells to accompany their articles as well as references to the Next Mutation and the promotion of the myth that the original comic was a parody. Sadly once this became the standard other blogs unconnected to Paramount started doing it because the idea was firmly engrained. "Hey TMNT has always been a pile o' crap so it doesn't matter if the new movie is ****"
Everyone knows there's bad versions of TMNT. Some legitimately bad others more a case that they were good at the time but haven't aged well based on what is generally considered quality now. What we really needed was reminding of the better parts of the franchise but they were never going to do that because they knew wasn't going to be one of them.

Exactly. This movie doesn't exist in a vacuum; it was made largely as an attempt appeal to nostalgia, so any comparisons it gets are perfectly natural. Why else would they directly reference the "pizza cutting" scene from the 1990 movie or play the 1987 theme song as a car horn, among other things? Those decisions exist to invite comparison - they don't get to have it both ways by embracing it when it's positive and dismissing it when it's negative. Whatever response this movie got is 100% earned.

Yep. Everything about the production and marketing of this movie was cynical as hell. Much like the other "bad TMNT" examples you listed, there was no love behind this movie at any point - it was made solely to monetize a brand name with next to zero care or heart put into it. And as a result, the reaction to it and the discussion of it are fiercely negative and polarizing. Fancy that.

This movie deserves all the critisism it has got this far, and that for many reasons. It doesn't matter if it has anything to do with nostalgia or not, because it's neither a well written nor well executed movie.
I have two friends who are real movie geeks, they appreciate films no matter what genre, whether it's a family drama or a superhero flick, and they competely despised this movie and labeled it one of the worst from last year, and I competely understand them.
This movie was made for the money and nothing else. It is far from a good handicraft and lacks all kinds of love or even care for that matter. I'll admit that not everything in this movie is terrible, it has it's moments, but altogether it's a terrible movie.
There are several plot holes (it's never explained why Shredder is the enemy, he just happens to be), the acting is beneath contempt (Fox's overacting when she meets the Turtles for the first time makes me roll my eyes), and the production is laughable. Further, there is no ninja action anywhere to be seen. The Turtles are portrayed more as brawlers than ninjas, which I find greatly disturbing, it takes away a great deal of the franchise, and don't even get me started on how the Turtles look in this movie.
I want to like this movie, I really do, but I simply can't. The extra scene during the credits really sums up what level this movie is on and how non-serious the production people were. TMNT deserves a movie that stays true to the franchise, and the people behind this movie really weren't the best people for the job. That is my opinion on it.

It is actually explained TOO many times why Shredder is the enemy...He wanted to reclaim the power of the Foot Clan. The Turtles' blood was key to his plan.
Believe it or not Megan Fox's acting isn't bad in the movie, well...because she wasn't acting. She was literally just being herself. The heavy breathing technique? Oh it's no technique, watch any interview she did for this movie, specifically Comic Con and Sway in the morning...she actually talks like that in real life.
And how exactly was Sacks selling an antidote to a poison he unleashed going to give Shredder control of the city? His plan made no sense.

Great list. One could argue there were worse films this year, but glad to see PDMT on the list.
And how exactly was Sacks selling an antidote to a poison he unleashed going to give Shredder control of the city? His plan made no sense.
All his plan did was directly implicate him. And Donatello -- someone who lives in a sewer and builds his technology with scraps -- was able to hack into satellite imagery to see the Shredder releasing the gas on Sacks' roof. The intelligence community would be able to see that even easier! So even if their plan worked without a hitch, all it would get them is the full force of the police, National Guard and FBI on their asses, and if they're lucky, a quick arrest followed by executions for committing an act of terrorism in the most populated city in America. Add that to the fact that they'd been going out of their way to advertise their presence, with Karai committing public acts of crime and terrorism without even wearing a mask - it's like they were trying to get caught.
You know what evil plan makes a lot of sense by comparison? Running a criminal organization in secret, using skills like stealth and espionage to build an empire the authorities can't prove exists. Much less likely to get caught that way.

I'm not sure if once really counts as "too many times" but he said he wanted the Foot to not be regarded as a myth except it seems in the movie the Foot is a well known terrorist organization that everyone is scared of. Hardly slipping in myth.
Reclaiming power? It seems like they had a pretty tight stranglehold on the city so they seem to be in a position of power already. Also how is a plan that really stands no chance of success anyway really going to accomplish that goal. Even if they could pull their con and got "stupid rich" it's Sacks Industries that benefits. Since they're linked you could argue that what's good for one is good for the other but it doesn't accomplish what Shredder stated his goal was.

It was honestly hysterical to go from Japanese Shredder talking about the "foot" being regarded as a myth to Eric Sachs publicly talking about the very real threat from the "foot" at a huge charity dinner/event/thing.

Gee, it's almost like they were cobbling together bits and pieces from entirely different scripts without bothering to rewrite it so they'd actually fit together.

The amount of "Shut Your Brain Off" necessary to endure this movie is ridiculous. As if some folks have no "On" switch to begin with. Snicker.

And one of his street punks was Sam Rockwell! Listen, we've got a clear winner here.

It was genius. What better way to build an empire than to brainwash kids into serving only you by not only giving them exactly what they want but telling them they're a family and that you're their father?
And then, when they're old enough and strong enough, the Foot that came over originally from Japan trains them to BE Foot. And that cycle continues forever because there's no bottom to the amount of destitute kids out there.
An infinitely growing army of completely loyal ninja at your disposal. Genius.
