View Full Version : Aging Hipster?

(Title of the topic changed to "Aging Hipster?" after watching the video posted by ZariusTwo.)
I don't want to cause a controversy, as I want to keep the peace, but I just wanted to tell everybody what's on my mind.
I feel that humanity has so much potential, yet it fails as a group. We are supposedly the most intelligent life form on Earth, but look at how the majority of people spend their time. There is war, hatred, and extreme selfishness in the world. Some people spend their time trying to get high in someway. Whether this is through drugs, or alcohol, or even excessive movie or TV watching. It is like people are trying to escape their reality. I'm disgusted with it. I have all these ideals for world peace, and I just have to accept that there is never going to be world peace. People as a whole are just going to treat each other like crap.
There's so much horror in the world. We have a bad history as a species. War, slavery, stealing, it just goes on and on. Its despicable.
I guess the best thing for me to do, is stop watching the news and avoid some TV shows and movies. It really disgusts me, and the worst part of it all is that there is no answer in sight. It is like someone standing on a beach, seeing a huge tidal wave coming at them, and all they can do is get washed away.
World peace would be great, but it is a fantasy, as if majority rules, the majority is corrupt.
I just wanted to get this off my mind. That's all. I don't know. I wish we had world peace and people just treated each other nice. Peace, and harmony, and love.

That's nature, other species do the same things. We're not that special when it comes to the inhabitants of Tellus.

What's your solution? Not trying to be smart here, just asking out of curiosity if you had all the power in the world, what would your solution to world peace be?

I guess it could be the nature of humans. I have read that even apes practice warfare. I suppose it comes down to survival. I would think that the intelligence of human beings would override primal and animal behaviors, and we would all work towards peace and progress. Animals aren't smart enough to realize this, but people should be. Not all people are creating problems, but there are enough people who are creating problems that it messes up the world for everyone.

What's my solution? The world needs to get together and arrest all dictators. Then bad behaviors need to be shamed. I don't propose making more activities illegal, just frowned upon. All the money that is spent on weapons needs to be spent on food and housing.
Are you the next Davetello?
Let's hope not, LOL. I don't want to metaphorically walk down a path that leads to falling off of a cliff. Deep thoughts are okay every now and then, but if you go too deep, you don't come back up. I guess it is like a guy in a submarine. Don't go too deep in the ocean. :D
Edit: The more I think about this, I think the answer is for everyone to just be the best person that they can possibly be. Everyone should focus on self-improvement. It makes me feel a little better by posting this topic.
I asked Machias Banshee to delete this topic or move it to The Disintegrator Unit, as it is just a pointless topic really.

Rather than creating topics where you inevitably end up asking for them to be deleted (not the first time you've done this), maybe you should create a livejournal account so you can express your thoughts.
I'm sensing a fair bit of depression in your thoughts. If you haven't joined Leo's group for people who want to get things like this off their chests, you're more than welcome to join us - nobody there will judge you.

A livejournal might be better for posting thoughts. That's a good suggestion.
Maybe I do have some depression, but overall I feel like a happy person. I have a lot of anxiety, I might have a generalized anxiety disorder. I worry about things that are out of my control. I just need to toughen up and accept that there are things in the world that I can not change. I guess. That's what I think I need to do.
I didn't know about Leo's group. I will look into it.
I hope I haven't angered anyone.

The problem with the whole "world peace" concept is that in order to attain that state of being, the entire human population has to unanimously strive for it, and the unfortunate reality is that will never be the case.
The more I think about this, I think the answer is for everyone to just be the best person that they can possibly be. Everyone should focus on self-improvement.
Problem with that is self-improvement is extremely subjective. People all have very different ideas of what "being a good person" is.

Very complicated species... Think we're so above everything else, so civil, etc, and then constantly have terrible people who turn around and prove otherwise. Or on a bad day do so ourselves.
Capable of so much compassion toward animals or whatnot, and yet able to be so vicious to our own kind.
We take being territorial to the extreme.
In some way though we've also stupidly wanted to see most have a chance to survive and for it have probably encouraged a lot of bad blood in the gene pool....
These terrorist sorts... I dunno. Maybe they want humanity to self destruct. Nutjobs.
The way people act, some days I get to thinking... If those Turtles were real, it wouldn't surprise me if they felt some days like they were trying to wrangle and control a bunch of wild animals. They live below a damn human zoo. Nothing but an urban ape habitat.

lol.... :D
You're not the guy who had multiple accounts such as Mega Man, are you? He used to post a lot of things like this.
Krang changed my name. That name you mentioned is an old account that I locked myself out of, and I no longer have the password or the e-mail address associated with it. I already told him about this, this is old news from last year.
This is my one and only account, and I am not going to lock myself out of this account or make a new account.
I also posted a public apology.
Anyways, I have issues and I can be a moody person, but I'm trying to improve. I hope you understand.
I hope I don't get banned, as I thought I had everything worked out okay when I apologized. This isn't meant to be a bad topic here, I was just feeling moody today.
I hope I can stay here. Role playing game players and myself are currently enjoying a game titled "Revolt of the Foot Ninjas," so getting banned before I get to compete the game would really be bad for myself and other people who have been posting in the game.
I don't know man. I hope that you and other people who also like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have some understanding. I don't have anything against anybody. I just get moody and post on message boards sometimes. I also have normal topic, such as my discussion on Toonami.
Whatever though, I come to this website for entertainment and to talk with fellow TMNT fans and to write in the role playing games here.

You might be enjoying reading this thread, but I'm worried about getting banned.
So here is the situation:
1. I only have one account.
2. I locked myself out of my old accounts, and I lost the passwords and I don't have the e-mail addresses.
3. This will be my one and only account.
4. I'm not able to log-in to my old accounts.
5. I have been a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan for over twenty years.
6. I have been coming here to TheTechnodrome.com since 2004, maybe earlier than that.
7. I want a fresh start.
8. I think I have self-esteem issues.
9. I just want to forget about today, and I hope I don't get banned, maybe I will get a warning instead, but I hope I don't get a warning either.

7. I want a fresh start.
Then my personal suggestion (but who am I really)... stop worrying about getting kicked and go enjoy other threads/topics. And if you need a spot to rant where it can be heard out by others but isn't quite as public and won't be open to the negative backlash that threads in these sections may be, then I likewise recommend joining the group that's already been suggested. And maybe leave the public space for Turtles 'n junk instead.
But that's just my half cent worth.

Stop making threads that aren't TMNT related & you'll probably be fine.
If you wanna spout loony nonsense, go make a facebook.

You give too much credit to humans. Free will and intelligence is limited to (within) the community and environment that they are raised in. So, in order to achieve world peace, we must change the environments of where there is bad influence and circumstance.
Legislation is the best way to do so because shaming people into do the right thing doesn't guarantee much. Like, if a corporation creates jobs within an area and a community is built around those jobs, that corporation has obligations to that community because it was the reason those communities exists. Now, if they outsource those jobs and destroy those communities, they're omitting their responsibilities to those communities. It's like, if you make a baby, you're responsible to take care of it.
So, if you really want to make progress towards world peace, you should study law and make amendments and force positive progress. We really need to hold these corporations accountable for the **** that they've caused, especially, the banks and how they damaged the world economy, making everything expensive.

You seem very bitter towards banks in a couple of posts I've read lately. What happened?
I don't believe banks are the root of all evil in the world. Mostly they are filled with Joe Schmo workers. Most people just want to work their 8 hours and go home. It's not a hive of evil planning and actively conspiring to destroy people. It's no worse or better than any other business.
Anyway, humans are animals with instincts that drive us to be special and important. To achieve this, we have to beat out weaker competition. We really aren't any different than chimps or lions or any other creature out there. We just have the means to whine and complain about wanting to be special and that's much easier than actually working to be something better.
So Davetello is back.

I think you're right.
Don't worry so much about getting banned, I'm pretty sure you're good. You bring a lot of attention to yourself when you post rant threads and then promptly ask for them to be deleted, which has happened more than once...just avoid doing too much more of that and you'll be fine.

Like myself. I want to put in as little work as possible, work my 8 hours, and go home. Most promotions at jobs has nothing to do with how much work you put in, its how much your supervisor/manager likes you or favors you over other workers. Unless you need the overtime to make ends meat, I like being a "worker bee" and rushing out the door as soon as my shift is done.

I'm not necessarily a fan of Super Goku's threads (because I've got my own stuff going on and don't like seeing posts here bringing me down), but SG is clearly going through some stuff of his own - we should try to be understanding and offer constructive ways of helping him channel this kind of thing.

I appreciate everyone's input on this. I had not thought of some of my posts as bringing other people down or causing negative feelings. I simply viewed them as my outlet to vent or to get something off of my mind. I feel bad about it now. I don't want to bring anyone down or depress anyone. I know that we all come here for entertainment, and I guess to relax. I just didn't think of it that way.
This puts a new perspective on these kinds of topics. I'm sorry.
Thinking about North Korea (yes, I watched the Interview movie) brought some of these bad thoughts to mind, and I just thought to myself how there is a lot that is not right with the world.
This isn't the news media though, and I don't want to be a negative person. So I will stay positive, and if the negativity enters my mind, I will just focus on the good in the world instead.
I think I messed up here big time. I don't want to get emotional though, as I think everything's okay now.

SG, don't feel bad, guy. I've made plenty of serious posts in the past myself - of late, I'm making an effort to just cut back on posting potentially gloomy or ranty-social-issues stuff. I use this place as a distraction from real life and I figure that a lot of other folks probably feel the same.
