Happy Superbowl Sunday! Hope you're ready to be footballed to death with the commercials..

Okay, so the kids are back in New York, Splinter is no longer a giant feral psycho rat, and Shredder's up to something evil with the Kraang. And April is still magically delicious. :P

So now the crew is looking for Karai. We last saw her down in the sewers with Splinter, pulling him from a watery grave. Could she also have been in the sewers this whole time? And what of her mental state? Is she feral as well, or is there some deep hidden traces of Miwa deep inside?

This past week, we saw Baxter Stockman working on a variety of projects with different animals (remember the cages?)... And this week, someone is going to be mutated, according to the ads. Who will it be, and will it simply be another "Mutant of the Week" or someone we'll get to see on a regular basis?

Stay tuned!

Can't wait to find out! I never got to see the teaser at the tend of the last one, so I'm really curious about what all the hype is about. Guess I'll find out tomorrow.

Not even, he loves her and wants her back. Bad guys can have feelings too. Makes them more than one dimensional.

Bebop and Rocksteady have a very funny dynamic. They're not total morons like they were in the OT but they're still goofy and humorous.

It'll be interesting to see how this goes. Also anyone notice Bebop wasn't as skinny as those original promo pics suggested?

Too bad there's nothing for me to be convinced he deserves her more than anybody else, thus still making him look selfish and still one-dimensional.

Also, just because he wants her back doesn't mean she wants the same. She just wants to stay away from others for the sake of their safety. She wants nothing to do with him. That shows a lot of love was between them, that's for sure.

Of course, my cable went out fifteen minutes in. It was in and out for the remainder of the time. But from what I did see...

I loved the relationship of B&R. They actually work well together and have respect for each other, so far anyway. It looks like the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

It was good to see Karai again and it was Leo who snapped her back to reality. I find it funny that Mikey said they were siblings while Leo called them friends.

Oh, and what the heck was that look between April and Casey when she said it was a little too crowded in the pizza place? Did something happen between them during the Vision Quest episode? If so, what? Did Casey make the moves on her and she told him off, or that she wanted Donnie perhaps? Could it be that they are secretly dating?

So how many you knew that Karai wasn't going to join with the turtles by the end of episode?

Raise hand.http://i.imgur.com/hbNJ6C0.png

Something tells that this "Karai not joining on the turtles" will be a on going thing. You know, like April and Donnie never going get together because I can't possible imagine what would been the next step of progression in terms of story telling. http://i.imgur.com/Js5iCJ1.gif

Well at least they doing something with her mutation.
My only hope that Bebop and Rocksteady will be the starscreams of the group so they can stand out and constantly try to stab Shredder in the back. Foot clan really does need a starscream.

CyberCubed is going to love this so much :trazz:

Guys they're not going to have Rocksteady speak in a Russian accent. There is no way Rocksteady will start saying things like, "Da" and "For glory of mother Russia!"

What an amazing episode. I'm already loving Bebop and Rocksteady and they only have been mutated for 10 seconds. They have some chemistry together so I look forward to them becoming a normal enemy for the Turtles to fight.

The fights were off the hook. That part where Leo and Shredder are just going blow to blow on the docks was insane. Some of the best fights of the show in this episode.

Karai has always been an awesome fighter to watch too, but she's seriously awesome as a snake. That part where she took out the Krang droids was cool to watch, not all the time you get to see a snake fighter. Looks like she'll end up having to be retromutated though, so that's sortof a shame. Was cool to see she still ha some sense though.

Love the episode, hyped for the rest of the season. Damn at another hiatus though.

Didn't really like this episode especially compared to last weeks episode.

- I really liked the B&R mutation scene
- Why did they make Zeck so annoying?
- A little disappointed that there was no dialogue between Leo and Shredder regarding their fight from The Invasion. Feels like their first fight since the attack should've meant more.
- I'm glad it was just the Turtles on the mission. It was nice having a break from April and Casey. They don't need to be on every mission.
- I was really intrigued by "the comet" until Leo said it was a hint to where Karai would be hiding. Hopefully there is more to it.

Very good episode overall, with the main focus being on Karai and the snake mutations with the new Bebop & Rocksteady the other main plot, and they nicely converge together based on the consequences, and I felt it was appropriate to see what many saw as the Nick equivalents mutate them. It will be interesting how much action Casey and April will get now that the Turtles have declared the enviornment hostile to humans, though I feel they won't be used nearly as much as they did during the Northampton episodes for awhile. Antonio's as a lair IMO was a great idea since who doesn't think of Turtles without pizza? The setting could lead to an important plot later on if they go into the processing room like they did on the OT episode Cowabunga, Shredhead. And it's always neat to see the Turtles battle Shredder as always. Finally, I still feel that Karai is with the Turtles/Splinter, its just that I feel she is escaping to safety on the comets.

Overall: 8/10

Karai's mutation will probably be short-lived, just like Kirby's was as, "Kirby-bat."

Lol obviously! Everybody wants her to be with them and she's caught in the middle, drama! That's the point! Shredder is gunning for her and wants to punish everyone that gets in his way. Drama! Again, the entire point. No one is asking anybody to feel bad for Shredder, they're giving him motivation for his actions, and that motivation is the child he raised.

I understand. I just dislike the impression that whatever "love" Shredder has for her in his own deranged way is 'moving' or meant to be sympathetic.

I'll just drop this now, since I didn't mean to make it a big deal. I watch a episode for the first time in a while thinking maybe, just maybe, something interesting might happen that'll renew my interest again, but eh, not really.

Could the Comet be in relation to this?

The Comet was a diesel-electric streamliner built in 1935 for the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad by the Goodyear-Zeppelin Company.[1] Smaller than the other streamliners, it was a three-car, double-ended train that could operate in both directions and thus did not need to be turned at destinations—ideal for the New Haven's cramped terminus at South Station in Boston.

I see it was built by Goodyear-Zeppelin company, and what else did they build? Blimps come to mind.

Not a whole lot of "hunting" despite the title, and kind of expected, I dunno, a bit more surprise/shock when they finally found out she's a shape shifter. Guess nothing surprises them at all anymore. lol Already so jaded so young.

'Twas ok, average rating from me.

Had the feel though as if it could have been an hour long episode that got half of it cut out for time. Like here we are doing things as point A, doing stuff at point B, point C...

"1987 called, it wants its jumpsuit back!"
Good ol' Raph and his 80s references.

Interesting to see that Karai can revert back to her human form at times.

Good to see Bebop and Rocksteady again. These new versions of them seem like they'll be pretty amusing especially when interacting with Rahzar and the others.

Love these quotes:

Fishface: Master Shredder, Karai is just too scaly... Uh I mean stealthy... and the city's so big...

Rahzar: She's as slippery as a serpent... Um... I mean... we've looked everywhere master...

Mikey: Keep it stealthy my ninjas! (the irony :tlol:)

Leo: LET HER GO, AND I'LL LET ALL OF YOU WALK AWAY ALIVE!!

I did like how, while it (sensibly) took Leo to have Karai remember who they were, it was Mikey's little, "I'm Mikey. Your brother." attempt. I may not like how his character has been handled most of the time in this show, but seeing his innocence being used to cham even the most fiercest mutants (like Leatherhead) is very appreciated. Like it definitely showed he wants her to be safe and sound with her real family as soon as possible.

Great episode. Definitely was a great ending to the 4-arc story and now we have to wait a few weeks.

Highlight of that episode was definitely the Shredder fight. I kind of complain about the lack of Shredder fights, but when they show them, damn they are good. I love that the Turtles are actually able to land hits on him while he's still whooping ass.

I don't post often, but this was my favorite episode in a good long while. especially the 3 way fight at the end, Fishface finally doing something awesome, and of course the Bebop & Rocksteady mutation at the end. I do think they made Anton more annoying in this episode than his debut episode though, as others have said.

Another awesome episode. Great to finally see Bebop and Rocksteady on the show. Felt kinda underwhelming that they were mutated by Shredder and Baxter on purpose, I was hoping it would be the result of an accident during the fight over Karai. Then again, most of the mutations on this show have been accidental, so it's not a bad thing to change it up. It will be interesting to see a rivalry build up between them and Rahzar and Fishface.

Overall, A+ episode :tgrin:

I saying in regards in how they treated Kirby in the show. They don't want a situation in which April has an authority figure that is not Splinter and plus they have no idea what to do with Kirby. So what's the solution?

Easy mutant him.

Have no idea what do next with Karai but want continue this tug of war custody battle between Splinter and Shredder that will make her unable to make a conscious decision and opinions?

1) I bet Casey laughed at the Irma-Bot while in the old lair. 2) Isn't it strange that Donnie doesn't have enough Mutagen to make that much Retromutagen? 3) How much do you want to bet that "comet" foreshadows some sort of doomsday event?

DING DING DING DING!!! Give the man a prize! Nice to see people have done their homework! If it is remotely like that, we should get someone to make you fan art. (I'd offer, but I can't draw. I'm a writer, though!)

This was a pretty sweet episode. The sound was acting wonky at times, so a few words were absent here and there, but I still caught the jist of what they were saying. Nice to see Bebop and Rocksteady won't be totally nimrods in this one (but I SO want to hear Bebop yell "MAMAAA!!!") And as a Michael Jackson fan, I do like how he was imitating him.

BTW, did you notice how Donnie said the retromutagen wasn't finished....IN FRONT OF THE KRAANG?!?! I wonder if they'll rely that message to Shredder. OR maybe Kraang Prime and she'll want him taken out so that the retromutagen won't be used to undo their progress.

They threw logic out the window so we can get B&R.

How are you going to get out of the city?
There are several freighters in the harbor. There's a plane in your hideout.
The docks apparently aren't even attached to the city. At least a mile away. If all else fails, you can just walk out.

Really, any resourceful person would have done something other than eating ketchup roaches. What's on the menu? A lot of pathogens. (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4028455/table/T1/)

But no, let's hatch a dangerous plan that even Robb Stark would say was stupid.

And no. The Comet ran between Boston and Providence. Above-ground, destroyed in 1951. Not even close to NYC (http://cs.brown.edu/about/directions/east-coast.png). The Silver Comet spanned the east coast, also above-ground, terminated in 1970. I don't care what it is, really. They're just going to follow her goo-trail until they find her again so clues are pointless and just bad writing.

I just rewatched the episode (in better quality)

Mikey drew some pictures of Raph including one of Raph picking his nose
I had a feeling they be going back to the old lair to pick up stuff. When they got something for Mikey, I thought it was going to be his collection of comics and underwear turns out it was his tv
I thought Mikey was awesome when he was talking to Karai trying to get through to her and telling her it's Mikey your brother, so cute.
Ivan is brutal when he fights and that punch to Raph was brutal and he had a bruise.
Liked that Mikey said that they use stealth to get past the Kraang.
My heart broke when Karai says she's dangerous.
I wonder if there is going to be more tension between Fishface and Rahzar.
Loved the little moments between Leo and Karai.
The fight between the Turtles and Shredder was awesome and you could tell the turtles are getting a lot better.
I noticed that Mikey bitched slapped Shredder with his nunchucks, also I think Mikey nearly broke Shredders neck.
Now we got Rocksteady and Bebop, I can't wait to see them in action.

Something I thought of the other day and I wondered if there could be a shortage of food with New York being closed off most of everyone mutated and maybe still a few people left and as it's been months since the start of the invasion so most of food has probably gone off now.

Watching this episode today and I wonder I could be right about the food shortage when Zeck said they have no food left and now eating bugs and moldy ketchup but later we see Mikey making pizza so was Zeck refering too having no food in the hideout or New York itself.

It's 10pm in the UK and I FINALLY saw the episode.

*deep breathing*

I think my favourite parts were:
Leo one-on-one with Shredder
Rahzar chuckling about being a warthog
Attack mad snake woman
Fisfhface smashing through the dock to knock Zeck out
Mikey's drawings
April's only in the first few minutes
The dock and Baxter's lab are such cool settings
Karai's back! Almost...

Least favourite parts
Not enough Casey or Tiger Claw

I do wonder if the people complaining about dodgy Asian stereotypes will say anything about Sterenko playing up to dodgy Russian stereotypes. Probably not.

Loved this episode. It had a ton of really funny bits, like Mikey's terrible drawings and how happy he was to get his TV back. I just wonder how Casey and April could get past that guard robot in the Lair when the turtles couldn't? Perhaps it was patrolling other areas at that time.
Unlike most people, I actually really loved Zeck in this episode.
I also loved Fishface and Rahzar's exchange.
Rahzar: Why can't I bring her to Shredder?"
Fishface: "Because you're too huge and bony to ride this bike!"
I've also really warmed up to Steranko. It was one of the many highlights of the episode for me when he was fighting with the Communist symbol behind him. "Mother Russia!" Most stereotypical Russian character I've ever seen, but he's awesome. Also, I loved how casually he said, "I have your snake daughter."
The fight at the docks was amazing, of course. My mouth fell open when I saw how Leo could fight so well blow-for-blow against Shredder and had to rewind it several times to watch it again. The turtles are getting really good.
While it is quite obvious that Shredder was never a good father to Karai, he seems really devoted to getting her back, even though she doesn't want to be with him. For months he hasn't given up on her and he really hated it when she was brought to him with a chain around her neck. I bet he hates the turtles more than ever now, since it was Leo's "fault" that she got mutated, for jumping up to save her and making Shredder accidentally cut the chain to drop her into the mutagen that he had so lovingly caged her above.
"Attack, vicious snake woman!"

I noticed that Mikey bitched slapped Shredder with his nunchucks, also I think Mikey neally broke Shredders neck.

I started "cracking" up when Shredder cracked his neck (Ha. See what I did there?) and Mikey's just like, "OH DAMN."

Leo one-on-one with Shredder

I'm really liking the foreshadowing for that Leo vs. Shredder fight. He definitely went at Shredder the most out of the four, which is something I liked.

Another good episode. Not great but entertaining. It was nice to see the turtles fight the Shredder again even though they never beat him. We learn that Karai has limited control over her serpent abilities. And if course, Rocksteady and Bebop! Hopefully they prove to be a threat to the turtles as opposed to just another set of mutant goons.

I'm actually a woman, but thanks. :) My brother, the train fan, came up with the whole Comet being a train thing and I researched it from there. I'm also a writer, but I love fan art. So many people are crazy good.

Maybe by the Comet, Karai was referring to the Technodrome?
Remember at the very end of the season 1 finale, when the Technodrome lit up again, and it hasn't been seen since? Well I think the Kraang moved all of the mutated New Yorkers into a shared dimension to update the Technodrome so the Kraang take over the rest of the world. Pretty much, New York has become slave labor. And the Technodrome sort of did look like a giant comet, but I could be wrong because I think Karai would still have enough sense in her to know what the Technodrome's name was to warn Leo about it.
It's a long shot, but I'm only guessing.

Good God, they made Zeck so annoying this episode. I thought he was slick and funny in Kuro Kabuto, but I can't stand him today.

I've found him annoying each time so far. Which is a shame because Bebop has always been my favorite of the two, I like his designs, I even love JB Smoove, but eugh... This whole Michael Tron Jackson thing is just, I dunno. Why?

Now I wish I hadn't been spoiled by the NYCC animatic and seen this real deal for the first time instead! The scene felt so much darker and less comical with all the background music and everything.

Man, I felt the same way.

Overall, this episode didn't really do it for me. It's important in that established things that needed happen to moves the story along, but it's nothing we didn't know was coming so it left me a bit unenthusiastic. Like, I dunno, advancing the plot is all there was to it, I felt. Does that make sense? I didn't find myself on the edge of my seat or laughing a lot, I just watched. I enjoyed it, don't get me wrong, but it felt predictable. & all that hype over B&R just to get one tiny (already revealed) mutation scene at the end, no action on their part. Bleh. I liked that we got to see Splinter is very troubled by his daughter's absence & mutation (as well as his fatherly praise to Leo, a sweet moment), that we know Karai has some humanity left (which I'm hoping means her sub-plot won't be dragged out too much longer), getting a good glimpse of B&R's banter/dynamic was cool, & I liked the turtles' assertiveness at the docks. But I dislike that Fishface & Rahzar have been reduced to cowering fools, like B&R used to be in the OT. Kind of insulting to the new original characters that they'd be replaced & mocked by the original dumb duo.

Ditto. I love how Mikey can tame wild beasts.

Was the bit with Michelangelo eating the snake skin thinking it was chips necessary? That was too Mikey 2003 for me.

I did like a few lines in there especially the '87 reference.

Nice plot pitting the three groups together however why did Zeck and Sternako get out right after their previous episode? They had time to get out.:trazz: Plot hole.

The voices for this different version of Bebop and Rocksteady fit well with their pre-mutation but do you think it will work with their mutant forms? Also, what role will they have now if there are already four mutants in the ranks?

I LOVED this episode!

Zeck and Sterenko are hilarious together. They have great chemistry, I love their banter and that they seem quite equal to one another, while having very different fighting styles. I love Sterenko having cool weapons (makes sense, since he's an arms dealer and Rocksteady has always had a very ammunition-heavy look in addition to being physically huge) and I love Zeck's dancing quickness (though a little heavy on the Michael Jackson homage, lol!) They are funny (Zeck didn't annoy me), and were formidable foes to the turtles even before mutating, so I imagine they're going to be even more deadly as Bebop and Rocksteady.
I noticed Strenko mention having a brother... I wonder if he's ever going to turn up? Also, every time Zeck called Sterenko "Big S" I heard "Big Ass", which makes me laugh. Because I am immature. :D I loved the return of spy cockroach, and that Donnie nonchalantly mentioned that Sterenko ate most of them, haha!
The dock fight was super awesome, and I think the writers treated Fishface better in this episode than they have for awhile. I think there's so much potential for conflict between Shredder's many mutated henchmen. Like others have mentioned, I'd love to see one or more of Shredder's henchmen turn mutinous - either Tiger Claw (who seems to have voiced doubt about Shredder's alliance with the Kraang) or Xever.
I also think they treated Mikey better in this episode than they have for a little while: he was a total badass in the fights (getting a few good hits on Shredder and calling the other guys slow), was using his awesome communication skills to talk down Karai, and yet still had his childlike drawings and excitement over the T.V. Nicely done!
I felt really sad for Karai. When she transformed back and said, "Help me..." ugh, my heart broke for her.
Leonardo was awesome here, in every way. Glad there was no return of the bum knee.
B&R's mutation scene was pretty brutal. I am really looking forward to seeing more of them. Even though I am an 80's turtles fan, I wasn't one who was super jazzed about their return... but NOW, I am really excited about them! I am feeling a strong need to draw some B&R fan art.

What's this I hear about a hiatus? Noooooo!!!!

Another thought I had was that maybe, possibly, Leo is sort of overtaking Splinter for the first time. Splinter is damaged(mentally and spiritually) by what has happened and is now recovering from his ordeal while the turtles are all in the best shape ever.

I just felt like Leo is in charge now and will be running things while Splinter recovers his psyche. I just hope that every now and then we can see that playful teen that is still inside Leo and not always just a serious side, which is Leo's personality.

Remember when he'd sit all wide eye watching Space Heroes? He seems a million miles from that now. His character may be the only one fulling growing and changing as the episodes go on.

Great episode.

To me it seems every karai episode is one of my favorites.

The fight between the turtles and steranko and zeck was great, but then them all vs shredder fishface and Rahzar was epic. Leo's intro was incredible, and his one on one with shredder was cool, seeing as how 10 episodes ago he got his butt kicked in that same matchup. Donnie also had some sweet attacks.

Not a fan of mutated karai, but like how shredders still fighting for her. It's hard to tell if he actually cares. He went from yelling how he cared for her, to calling her his.

Those mutations were dark. And seeing fishface and razhars reactions solidified that

Wanted to applaud that final scene. Actually felt BAD for them. Love how this show occasionally has a real mean streak. And now I'm somehow onboard with Zeke/Bebop's design, which I really, really opposed to before. This show has a knack for delivering designs I hate (including the Turtles themselves) and making them work through personality. I assume they'll help to take down the Turtles with the faux promise that they'll be turned human again. Looking forward to how they somehow get the names "Bebop" and "Rocksteady". Couldn't care less about the never-ending struggle over Karai but as a Z & S transition into B & R episode, they nailed it.

I'm still wondering what happened to Steranko's suit.

I know they want the tank top and camo look... but he's running around in his underwear now. The only reason they didn't ditch the suit pre-mutation was so they could keep the pauldrons that somehow mutated an extra spike.

Pauldrons...and underwear.

I'd also like to thank Con Edison for keeping the electricity on this long, even though they haven't received any payment for utilities in months and they serve an area that extends beyond New York City.

Good episode with lot of action fights. Leo this time is in charge of the group trying to find Karai and when find her, Mikey was really nice in the way he was treating her. Very compassionate towards Karai. And this an important part of Mikey's personality and Leo was telling her if she remember them. She did and then she ask Leo to help her. Poor Karai! I really like Raph phrase about the year 1987.

The Russian Staranko and Zeck mutated to become Bebop and Rocksteady. I wonder if Bebob will call the boys the "toitles" like he did in the original series.:tcool:

We still don't know who will "name" them, and if Shredder will start calling them B&R or still Anton/Ivan.

I caught something though, when Steranko was aiming his tranquilizer gun at Karai, he said "steady... steady..."

And they got Zeck to act so MJ-like so he could inevitably earn his mutant name?

Pretty much everything I was going to say has already been said, but I'm glad I'm not the only one who's brain had trouble processing the, "Big S." Took me a good half of the episode to figure out what they were actually saying.

I think I actually enjoyed this episode more than the last one. I'm glad we got to see more of Steranko, because I never realized just how funny he actually was. I think my only beef is that, at least so far, Beebop's snout looks more like that of a hippo than a warthog. Needs to be a little more piggy.

Other than the fact that they'd probably get in the way when finding Karai, I'm wondering if Leo's leaving behind April and Casey didn't have something to do with the state they found Splinter in last episode. It's got to be pretty disturbing to see the fellow who raised you lose that much of his mind, and no one can say for sure that it might not happen again... Especially if something happened to the turtles and they ended up not being able to return. Ergo, Leo leaves the two humans behind to keep an eye on Splinter, in case he starts to lose himself again: April fixed him the last time, so she'd probably be able to do it again, and Casey as the muscle in case anything did go wrong and April needed a distraction while she got ready to shoot her brain waves at him.

I like how Zeck and Steranko spent the entire episode on a plan to avoid getting mutated, only to get mutated at the very end. Obviously Bebop and Rocksteady will be the henchmen of Shredder (it's their place in the franchise), although I suspect they won't be loyal this time around.

... That's confusing to me, why would Shredder name his new henchmen Bebop and Rocksteady of all things? Is he just really into laid back music?

It's more likely Shredder will continue to call them Zeck and Steranko, while the names Bebop and Rocksteady will come from someone else (Mikey most likely) or they pick the names themselves.

Hey guys, really don't know if I'm clutching at straws here, but yesterday I got volume four of the collected "new animated adventures " comic from IDW, and this morning I finished reading issue 16, 'Walkabout', which is about Master Splinter leaving the lair to watch a comet*, as he remembers showing one to his daughter when she was just a baby. As he watches it go by at the end of the issue, we see serpent Karai, watching the same thing from somewhere else in the city and she briefly takes her human form as it goes by, before slithering off again as a snake.
Now it may be a bit of a leap that the show uses lore established in the comic, but I certainly thought it was worth mentioning. And I'd also recommend the new animated adventures comics, they can be fun and make more use of the under-used mutants from the show.

*Disclaimer! : I assume it's a comet but I have no real knowledge of that sort of thing, It could have 'technically' been a meteor or whatever. Not my area of expertise. At all.

At worst I can them waiting till the season finale to change Karai back along with all of NYC at the same time.

It's mutants like Bebop, Rocksteady and Tigerclaw this show needs, not silly Mutagenman or mutated Karai or Kirby (even mutant versions of Baxter Stockman, Dogpound anf Fishface are pointless).

Not much I can really say about this one:

Hopefully all the people complaining in the whining thread that Mikey is being "mistreated" in this series will be satisfied with how he was "treated" in this episode. Because he was awesome! :D
Glad to see Karai again, even if she is still a snake.
Seeing the Turtles fight Shredder at the docks was pretty awesome.

Bebop & Rocskeady, at last! Was hoping to see more of them though.
I REALLY don't like Bebop's voice. I wish they could change it.
What's this comet thing about?

...anyone notice Bebop wasn't as skinny as those original promo pics suggested?

Yep. Glad they changed it.

Magically delicious?

The first thing that popped into my mind was Lucky Charms.

This. for me. :P

Anyone else love the appearance of the Russian Flag behind Rocksteady when he was human?

I wonder if all his Russian mannerisms will be carried over.

I sincerely hope so! But that would also mean that all of Bebop's mannerisms will also carry over, which will only make him more annoying.

During early season 3, when I saw gifs of Leo talking (when there's subtitle but no sound) I would unconsciously form the "voice" in Jason Biggs' version. It just wouldn't get out of my head.

Or so I thought :trazz:

Now, I totally "hear" Seth Green's

Leo's definitely grown up a lot!

I can't even remember what Jason Bigg's Leo sounds like. :P

I lost it when Steranko pulled out a gattling gun and started laughing like a maniac. I think that was a nod to Team Fortress 2's Heavy. I hope he does more Heavy-esque things as Rocksteady.

I howled with laughter at that scene.

At all.

So a couple of questions about the mutation scene.

I know it appeared earlier, but what's the point of this giant mutagen bubble when it's been established that it only takes a single canister (if not less) to mutate someone?

What's up with the teeth mutating? Steranko's gold teeth changed despite not being organic, and Zeck's tusks are chipped despite the fact that he just grew them.

Why Rocksteady's clothes different from Steranko's? I can buy that he was wearing a sleeveless shirt under that coat, but why are his pants different and what's up with that giant metal thing on his back?

I'm just glad Bebop and Rocksteady were mutated from humans who resembled their characters. I remember people saying:

- Fon and those two other Purple Dragon guys would become Bebop and Rocksteady. LOL, I knew those throwaway characters would never be Bebop and Rocksteady

- Bebop and Rocksteady would mutate from animals this time and not have been human at all. This again I knew would never happen, a big part of Bebop and Rocksteady's character is they were once human.

Bebop looks like Bebop does in the original toon and IDW only with a tron outfit, (he's black with a purple mohawk and shades and he's skinnier), and while Rocksteady has never been a Russian general before, at least he still has blonde hair and sort of resembles Rocksteady in the way he acts.

Now I wonder if OT Rocksteady was possibly Russian as well...

I'm just glad Bebop and Rocksteady were mutated from humans who resembled their characters.

Yes, they sure looked like the leaked designs.

- Fon and those two other Purple Dragon guys would become Bebop and Rocksteady. LOL, I knew those throwaway characters would never be Bebop and Rocksteady

Was this from when it was all just speculation on wheter or not they would even be in the show? If it's from after the designs were revealed then yeah sure. If these memories are from the speculation age, how did you know that? Steranko was just in one episode before Kuro Kabuto (and his role was really small), he was the very definition of a throwaway character.

- Bebop and Rocksteady would mutate from animals this time and not have been human at all. This again I knew would never happen, a big part of Bebop and Rocksteady's character is they were once human.

Weren't there episodes of the Fred Wolf cartoon where the writers outright forgot that they were once human? I can remember one episode in particular where they claim to have come from a zoo, the dialogue isn't even ambigious, they outright say they were animals. The only times I can think of where their former human identities were important in any meaningful way, is when they started to become more animal in the Archie series (and quite frankly, I think Murphy just forgot that they were once human and just put the clarification into issue 25 because he realised that he messed up), the few times they meet up with their old gang, in the IDW series where they gladly sacrificed their humanity for power and when Hob took issue with them being hybrid mutants. Who cares what they start out as? Splinter, Shredder, Mondo Gecko, Leatherhead, Rahzar, Slash and Wingnut all have radically different origins depending on continuity and very few people care if they start out as humans, animals, aliens or demons.

Whatever, and who the hell cares if Rocksteady had blonde hair before he got mutated? Seriously nobody cares about what Bebop and Rocksteady look like before they mutate.

If they started out as animals, nobody would care.
If they started out two asians instead of a black and a white man, nobody would care.
If niether of them were American, nobody would care.
If they started out as children instead of adults, nobody would care.

The staff of the show didn't even care about them being street punks, you know why? Because all that matters with these characters is that they're a mutant warthog and a mutant rhino, that's it.

Now I wonder if OT Rocksteady was possibly Russian as well...

No, he was quite clearly American. Maybe he moved to America as a child but there's nothing to indicate that.

Amazing episode. My favorite of this season so far, and one of my favorites in the series.

I really liked how Zeck and Sterenko stood their ground against the turtles, it was nice seeing them go all out before they got mutated.

The scenes with the turtles and Karai were also very nice and the fight scene against Shredder was very well done.

This is an episode that reminded me why I'm a fan of this series. Loved it.

Gosh, I loved this episode :D my favourite scene was with Leo and Karai. I just loved how he cared for her but actually it felt more like a brother-sister moment than a "I care about you because I like you" thingy. Leo still has a strong connection with Karai which I find pretty interesting and twisted. :) And I loved the fight between Shredder and Leo. I just admire him how he has grown and matured a lot and I could notice how the skills of the turtles improved, too.

Although a few of you guys said that Zack is really annoying in this episode I have to admit that he's on of my favorite character. With his insane personality and random "yihii" shouting... :D I always have to laugh. I just love that guy! His Bebop style is pretty strange, but I think I will get used to it. :D All in all, loved it! :D

I'm happy with this episode over all as it's moving things along and we finally get Karai back in the mix (sort of).
Boy so much went down in this episode I don't know where to start!
I'm enjoying the temporary pizza shop home but have to wonder if it's the same one from the Pizza Face episode or if it's a different one?
There seems to be slight differences to this one if you watch both episodes.
Which then I have to ponder if the Pizza Face episode was just a dream?

I like that Leo, Raph, & Casey went back to the old lair to get some things.
On a side note I still can't stand this version of Casey though and I'd actually like to see the writers mutate him.

Also it's nice to know Don's working on a retromutagen and I hope an X-Men cure type storyline comes from that.
Or they have him team up with Baxter who ends up trying to double cross him.

Steranko & Zeck are an interesting duo but I have to say them becoming Bebop & Rocksteady (which I'm sure Mikey will name them that) seems a bit forced.
I'd much rather them just stay new characters and if they must be mutated Ivan be a bear & Anton be merged with his outfit becoming some sort of techo-mutant.
I really hate to see Steranko look his height for some reason also and Shredder should have just killed them (but I know that's not going to happen on a kids show even if this one likes to push the limits).
I do have to comment on the roof top fight and how it was probably one of the best battles since they got their butts handed to them by Slash.
I really loved when Steranko punched Raphael and left the mark on his head.

Karai was pretty bad ass in this episode, it sucks they have to turn her back to a human and just can't stabilize her mutation so she doesn't lose her mind and can be a shape shifter.
Sucks she got away but I guess her clue was to find her at an old warehouse that has old blimps or something as someone stated here after researching it.
I guess that will bring on the turtle blimp.

I'm glad Fishface and Rahzar are getting more screen time and lines as I feel they are very under used in the show.

One thing I thought was odd though was during the fights on both the roof top and on the docks that no Kraangs attacked anyone.
I mean most of the time since returning to the city everyone has been hiding from them and then we have big battles and none of it gets noticed by the Kraang at all? Just seems a bit odd to me.
Did Shredder call ahead and say oh hey guys! My goons and I are going to be doing some fighting so just stay away ok?

Speaking of Shredder, man I sure hope he has a big fall coming soon at the hands of Tigerclaw or the Kraang or something.
He's so mental and getting on my last nerves with this "She's my daughter!" crap.

Buuuuuut other than that I thought everything else went really well and can't wait for the next episode whenever that may be (sick of these breaks!! Just air the damn show please!) :)

This episode was really good. I was so happy to finally see Karai again, especially since we really didn't get a good look at her when she was first mutated. The only thing that I don't really get is why she is also mentally becoming a snake. I know that Splinter had that issue last episode, but the turtles don't think like turtles.

The mutation of Bebop and Rocksteady was pretty dark, even with the humor that was thrown in.

Overall, I really enjoyed this episode and am looking forward to more :)

Only thing I can figure is that Splinter and Karai were just out there trying to survive. Maybe psychological stress of everything that had and was happening around them played a role. The Turtles however have each other and their friends to keep them grounded.

Granted Mikey did not turn feral when he was alone trying to survive in Dimension X for, what was to him, months. Maybe the Turtles have an easier time being within a human mindset, whereas maybe humans that turn into other things have a harder time keeping out of mentally becoming what they turned into. Such as resisting becoming mentally rat-like, the reverse of the Turtles embracing a human mind.

Well, I finally saw the episode. It did cheer me up. My mood was completely down after returning home last night. The job I interviewed for....I just don't think I have a chance at getting the job due to my being tied to the company I'm working for currently and their lack of flexibility to allow me to take time off to relocate if it comes to that, but never mind.

Anyway, the ep was okay. Really enjoyed the moments with Karai and how she seems to be losing control of her mind and becoming more snake-like. I personally like that. Maybe it runs in the family. We saw what happened with Splinter. :p

Let's see, I also enjoyed Leo's line about how he would kill everyone there if they didn't let Karai go. That's very bold for this show. You know, this ep in general, imo, shows just how much all four turtles have grown in their combatant skill. I like how they were able to fight against Shredder better than they had in the past and I like all the fights going on at the same time at the docks.

Ah, the part where Steranko pulled out that gattling gun and was going nuts shooting, reminded me of one of my favorite moments in the OT and the old arcade games and Turtles in Time and Hyperstone Heist...with Rocksteady doing something similar. In the OT ep that came to mind, he pulled out that machine gun of his, shooting real bullets (before they changed all the guns into Dimension X laser gun weapons for censors sake I guess) and Rocksteady blindly shooting everywhere and the other three (Leo, Mikey, and Raph) having to hide and dodge it. You know, early Bebop and Rocksteady before they became total morons and were still an actual threat because of their brawn and stuff. Anyway, Leo stopped Rocksteady from shooting by slicing through a signal light pole (or whatever you'd call it) which fell on Rocksteady's head. Since I knew Steranko was going to become Rocksteady, that's probably why I thought of that.

Oh I noticed some folks mentioned not liking Zeck for this ep. Well, in his first appearance he was calm, cool, and collected. The way he acted in this episode actually made sense to me. He wasn't in control, he's scared of the Kraang, he's starving, and desperate. Dunno, seems like a likely human reaction to me to a stressful situation. I did like how the two worked together, though...even though I'm still not fond of the whole Bebop and Rocksteady thing, even though I like their backstories for this series. I just feel that Bebop, Rocksteady, and Fly Baxter is way too much pandering...but alas, not much I can say about it, right? They are here to stay.

Oh, now that I got to see the whole ep, I think the "look" Casey and April had definitely can me summed up to awkwardness, but not in the sense that everyone else has been mostly saying. The place is cramped. There's no real privacy. At least in North Hampton, April had her own space and privacy, and the guy were probably all shacked up together or shared. I'm assuming that even in season 1 when April was staying in the lair, she probably had her own private space, like Karai did when she was there. At the start of the ep we see April rolling up a sleeping bag and stuff right out in the open.

So yeah, I truly do think it's more of a, "I'm a girl stuck sharing a space with a boy in close quarters" and vice-versa for Casey.

Overall, I really enjoyed this episode and am looking forward to more :)I wonder if Karai is becoming more snake-like because of her once being human and because something spilled in the chemical Baxter added to the mutagen.

That aside, I think it has more to do with the fact that they were human...although I have no proof that. We saw Splinter give in to his rat side, we see Karai giving into her snake side, Tigerclaw thinks of himself as a tiger (but maybe since he's so accepting of his mutation, he won't give into his ravage tiger side)...I dunno. I'm still wondering if Baxter's brain will slowly start to deteriorate as time goes by. Then there's Rahzar and Fishface...they still seem pretty humanlike (well Fishface anyway). I think Rahzar was more embracing of his current form.`

Yeah the whole Karai-losing-her-mind thing would have made a lot of sense if they didn't just do that exact same plotline with Splinter and fixed his problem with 5 seconds of April mind powers.

I thought it was actually going to build off of that and have them get through to Karai like that (oh, like father like daughter, both losing their minds in moments of intense tragedy but being brought back by the memories of their family with a small nudge from April), but April is benched 2 minutes into the episode. It makes no sense.

I still enjoy the show, but damn if it doesn't keep getting sloppier and sloppier.

Was Mikey actually in Dem X or thought he was for months? I always figured it was only a few hours and when he said a few months it was just an exaggeration for a joke.

Like others, I found Zeck a bit annoying and always heard it as "big ass." The fight was Shredder was awesome, and I like how they managed to get two hits in on him. The first was a result of teamwork, and the last because he was distracted by Karai, which I thought was a nice way to show how much he's focused on getting her back, to the point where he'd let down his defences. Not that he deserves her in any way, but I'd rather that than him be a typical, uncaring villain.

I assumed the turtles figured they'd bring Karai back to the new lair, and then unmutate her or let April try her mind powers. I don't mind how she was left behind even though she has a way to help Karai. The turtles had their hands full as it was. April was out of her league and would've been in unnecessary danger. Leo made the right call.

I don't think they showed any proof of the actual time frame, though I recall the Turtles figuring out/deciding that time works differently there than it does on Earth. Just have to trust Mikey on that one I guess.

Leatherhead had also been there a lot longer (years?) and came back noticeably aged. As well as Mikey having had time to figure out a lot of survival stuff there. (Edit: That would have been weird if Mikey came back clearly older than his brothers. o.O Though I guess he'd now be some months older than he used to be?)

As for the mental state of mutated people... Maybe some of Splinter's meditation is partly focused on also keeping him mentally grounded in his humanity and resisting becoming all rat? Maybe it will help Karai control the shape shifting.

He acts like a father to her, worrying about her like he would his own sons. Some of Splinter's memories included his time with April. I doubt it would've worked all that well if April had tried to mentally link her mind with Karai's. I think Splinter himself or Leo would've worked best for this since she has the strongest bond with those two. Well, that's what I personally think anyway...

I can see Shredder naming them because they're his "property" now and the mutation was a punishment. He calls Bradford and Xever by their names because he didn't mutate them and they weren't being punished.

Bebop and Rocksteady being named by Shredder makes sense. He's likely to keep a close eye over them.

It makes slightly more sense for Mikey to name them than for Shredder to, at least to me. Mikey displays a clear interest in music, and he seems like the type to listen to a little bit of everything (except classical, apparently ). He doesn't necessarily have to name the both of them at the exact same point in the episode, and it might be better if he didn't. But I could see him listening to Donnie's music player (who's name is escaping me at the moment) while spying on Zeck, and thinking, "Your mannerisms remind me of this type of music, so I shall call you Beebop," and later overhear someone make an off-handed comment about Sterenko having rock-steady aim, causing him to dub the guy Rocksteady.

OH OH OH OH OH!!!! PLOT BUNNY GOING HIPPITY HOP!!!!

Ok, in connection to that, let's say that Leo comes up with the idea of April using her powers to connect to Karai the way she did with Splinter. If it worked on him, it'd work on her, right? Seems logical!

But ssjup is right; April doesn't have the same bond with Karai that she does with Splinter, so everyone else (especially Donnie) finds it a bit iffy. Well, Casey's all for it because he thinks April can pretty much do anything she "sets her mind to." *ba dum, tiss*

So, April confronts Karai and tries to do her mind power thing with her, but just as she's slowly getting through to her, either the Kraang or the Foot or someone shows up and startles Karai, making her lash out and bites April on the shoulder. Donnie goes to her first and, even though she's still alive, is beyond enraged and attacks Karai. Karai slithers away with Donnie on her trail, but Donnie is stopped by Leo. Fortunately, Donnie had made some anti-venom serum in case this were to happen and they were able to administer it to April in time. Donnie, however, is still furious and starts lashing out at Leo saying how it was his fault he put April in danger. Not only that, but he refuses to make retromutagen for her. Leo fires back by saying he's just trying to help Splinter get his daughter back, but Donnie accuses him of just wanting to be with Karai. They get into a huge argument about which girl is more important and Leo finally says how Donnie is wasting his time on April and how she'd never want to be with him when she has a guy like Casey.

This is when I would have Donnie and Leo actually FIGHT, making Raph and Mikey split them up. Donnie is fed up and needs to be alone, which would eventually lead to the kidnapping of Donnie plot I had.

......too harsh? I know a lot of you guys are saying how Donnie would never act that cruel, but haven't you ever said or done things in the heat of the moment before? I've been told I'm a very sweet, loving person and even I've been a downright bitch at times. Just saying....

Here's my problem with the whole naming of Bebop & Rocksteady thing:

Shredder naming them himself makes sense, I agree with that completely. But why should he name them "Bebop" & "Rocksteady"? How will he even come to that decision? In the 80s show it was okay because that show was kooky and tongue-in-cheek on purpose. This show is meant to be a little more serious - so the names "Bebop" & "Rocksteady" would sound a little silly, don't you think?

I'm guessing it will be Mikey who names them, since he's named almost every other villain the show has so far. How he'll come up with their names is anyone's guess though - it's Mikey. :P

I'm guessing it will be Mikey who names them, since he's named almost every other villain the show has so far. How he'll come up with their names is anyone's guess though - it's Mikey. :P

But Shredder didn't name them in the OT. Bebop and Rocksteady had those names (their street/gang names) prior to their mutations. The only mutants in the OT Shredder named were the Punk Frogs.

i really liked this episode.

i can't believe karai has another mouth!
then again that might explain why she's losing it. that being the mouth is where you would think her brain would be located. i keep thinking back to the karai figure their suppose to be releasing at some time, you know the one with human karais head on the body of her mutant self. well what if due to the formula that baxter had screwed with means that donatello can only stabilize her mutation leaving her like that. i wouldn't put it past em.

Semantics. He still chose to keep them as their names. My question still stands - what possible reason would the Nick Shredder have to give mutated Ivan and Zeck the names of Bebop & Rocksteady? It wouldn't make sense.

Yeah, her ability to switch between human and snake form is still a curious decision. It begs the question 'Why allow her to do that if you're just going to retromutate her eventually anyway?'

I'm wondering if maybe Baxter's 'accident' ended up making her alternate form permanent, retromutagen or not, and that they'll have to go cold turkey on bringing Karai's mind back, or maybe April's ability works after all. Although maybe it was just because they were afraid the snake form wouldn't be able to convey emotion enough, like how superhero films constantly have the hero taking their mask off so the actor's face can be seen.

Time will tell. Gods knows these hiatuses aren't helping.

That's what I thought too, I mean if they are dating from season 2 till now, the 'A Foot too Big' ending makes even less sense than ever before. :ohwell:

My only hope that Bebop and Rocksteady will be the starscreams of the group so they can stand out and constantly try to stab Shredder in the back. Foot clan really does need a starscream. They already have Stockman.
Ah, the part where Steranko pulled out that gattling gun and was going nuts shooting, reminded me of one of my favorite moments in the OT and the old arcade games and Turtles in Time and Hyperstone Heist...with Rocksteady doing something similar. What old arcade games are you talking about? He only appeared in the first one, and while he did appear in the SNES port of Turtles in Time he didn't have a gun in that.

Her mutation pridicament may be somewhat of a nod to the original mutagen man plot. And perhaps a little good genes

In the OT the original mutagen man was this unfortnate geek named Seymour Gutz who fell into a vat of unfinished mutagen. He had the ability to change shape for a few moments. But he needed bindex 3 in order to stay one form perminantly. And in Good Genes they emphasized that Donnie was losing himself to his second mutation.

So assuming the stuff Stockman poured into the snake DNA was unfinished retromutagen, then maybe biting April might be a good thing because April's blood may get it to stablize. But yes Donnie wouldn't be happy that April would be in mortal danger in order for Karai to live. But yet again... we know Karai can spit venom, but perhaps when she bites people she can inject mutagen into the blood stream in the same manner of that human/bug mutation.

And we have had some teases towards a good genes like event. Such as the shot focusing on Donnie when Leo is saying the words "Before some random joe gets mutated." In Follow the Leader. And Donnie flying over the mutagen vat trying to stop April from falling in Lonely Mutation of Baxter Stockman. So maybe while April is trying to mentally heal Karai. Something happens and Karai looks like she's about to bite April. Donnie pushes her out of the way and gets bitten instead.

But then again the Good Genes mutation was caused by man made mutagen which was wrecking havok with Donatello's already mutated DNA.

As a matter of fact, they did discover the time works differently there, due to Leatherhead having been there for several decades, as well as Mikey's months-long stay compared to their shorter one. Also, would like to point out that since they all share the same "mutation day(birthday)", that would now actually make him several months OLDER than the others! Might explain his quick "growing up" or boost in maturity. Which is funny, because Leo being the oldest has always been the norm- but what if Mikey were the oldest? That does complicate things.

For that matter, this Shredder looks like music of any sort probably angers him. Let alone use retro music themed names.

Not sure how it could be anyone else but Mikey. (Or one or more of the others..? Eh..) Interested in seeing how that happens, hard enough so speculate on, must have taken some definite thought by the writing team.

I think everyone's forgetting someone else who is pretty obvious to me- Baxter. The names were RIGHT THERE on the screen when they were mutated, and it's BAXTER'S LAB! Duh. Why wouldn't HE be the one naming them when he's the one performing the mutation?

But Shredder didn't name them in the OT. Bebop and Rocksteady had those names (their street/gang names) prior to their mutations. The only mutants in the OT Shredder named were the Punk Frogs.

This is true- but it has nothing to do with why they would have the same names now. They were in a gang in the OT, it was just their street-names. Here, someone ELSE named them that. My bet's on Baxter.

Why wouldn't Shredder have kept the same names in the OT? He had no reason to change them, and wouldn't have cared what they called themselves- it was just a name for him to yell at them. You're right about one thing, though- it doesn't make sense for Shredder to call them that. In this version, I suspect the names came from someone else- Baxter. He's the one doing the mutation experiment, and it's his lab, so it makes more sense for HIM to choose their new names. And he's got the right type of personality to go for those off-beat names. Probably even named them for the same reason(s) Mikey would have. Him naming them makes more sense than either Mikey OR Shredder!

I can see Shredder naming them because they're his "property" now and the mutation was a punishment. He calls Bradford and Xever by their names because he didn't mutate them and they weren't being punished.

Bebop and Rocksteady being named by Shredder makes sense. He's likely to keep a close eye over them.

Why do you still insist on this? Even if Shredder will refuse to call them by their real names, he's not just going to go with Bebop and Rocksteady because he thinks it fits.

"I am no longer going to refer to by your real names so I can degrade, your new names will be the words for Proto-Jazz and Proto-Reggae!"

It'll just be weird if that happens.

Why does everyone keep thinking in such narrow terms? Mikey isn't the ONLY one who can name things! Baxter does it, too- and is far more likely than EITHER of those two to call them by those names- heck, those names were already on the screen of his equipment during the mutation. It's pretty obvious who named them that- Baxter did. (Although it's certainly more creative than his "Maze of Doom".... Thank GAWDS.)

I could just as easily counter that with - why did he? He might have thought those names were stupid and picked his own. The same goes for the Nick Shredder.

Anyway, the "OT" Shredder wasn't my point. Keep that in the 80s board. And yes, I am right about the Nick Shredder naming them Bebop & Rocksteady not making sense. Thank you. :P

I thought it was pretty obvious that Mikey would name bebop, after he mentioned the "weird sounds" zeck was making. And honestly, rock and steady are two easy words for Mikey to think of and out together. I refer back to one of my favorite scenes of the entire show (that I probably bring up way too much) but dog pounds double mutation. Bradford roared at Mikey, and Mikey replied "roar yourself you razor faced dog" before combing roar and razor to get rhazar.

Actually it was Donnie who mentioned about the "weird sounds"

As for Rocksteady I'm still leaning towards this:

I caught something though, when Steranko was aiming his tranquilizer gun at Karai, he said "steady... steady..."

It would've been heavy foreshadowing (if we hadn't already know he was going to be Rocksteady)

Such as resisting becoming mentally rat-like, the reverse of the Turtles embracing a human mind.I'm wondering though, maybe it's the 'spliced' DNA causing this? Can animal DNA even cause somebody to become more animal-like in behavior, or do you think that some of this is purely mental, akin to people who think they're wolves (lycanthropy)?

I admit I was also bothered a bit at the notion that some of this DNA was actively 'spliced' and that mutants are 'hybrids,' pretty much because any changes to DNA will be very small and a lot of it is already shared (like 90% similarity between human and cat, for instance, or 96% now understood between human and chimp.) You can't have too much change, or you lose the ability for humanlike reasoning, ability to speak, and so on. I'm wondering if the mutants aren't really just like those lab animals that you hear about, only having a gene or two spliced in, but gaining the whole ability to 'glow' under florescent lights (cats and pigs) or have spider silk protein in their milk (goats.) Humans can grow horns even without mutation, and they don't need animal DNA to have tails or tons of hair or act feral, but maybe the mutagen just 'switches on' those atavistic or abnormal traits when it isn't making a small change to the DNA.

I don't know, I'm just rambling here. Each episode seems to have something I like, and yet another thing I could have easily done without. :ohwell:

I enjoyed this episode as much as the last one. Great to see Shredder and his minions back in the picture. Although like some of you, I'm wondering if Zek and Steranko will stay with the Foot or eventually ditch them. Yeah, they served the Shredder in the 87 toon, but Steranko doesn't seem like the type to take orders. However, Shredder excels at breaking spirits. I'm good either way. I love the variety of mutants Shredder has to choose from now, but would love to see these two on their own eventually and plotting to pay the Shredder back. I suppose TigerClaw will keep those two in line if it comes down to that. Shredder's sure asking for it one way or another. I only wish we'd gotten to see Bebop and Rocksteady in action. It would have been awesome if we'd gotten two episodes back to back last weekend. That mutation scene was such a tease and I agree with those of you who wished they hadn't revealed it at Comic Con. Man, I've got to quit clicking on those panels and spoiling things for myself. Maybe.

I can see one of two things happening to Karai.

Either she'll turn back into a human and decide to go on a "Quest for Honor" (No, that was NOT a Zuko reference!) and maybe return to Tokyo and try to be a vigilante or something.

OR she tries to defeat Shredder on her own terms and maybe try to take over the Foot Clan, only making them a force of good.

Only reason why I say that is because Shredder kept thinking that's what he was doing by rebuilding the Foot clan after the Hamato clan destroy it, but it had to be destroyed because they were horrible people. It isn't the ninja clan that's evil; it's the actions of their leader. So maybe it'll be like the 2007 movie and she takes it over to either to mercenary work or as a fighting evil force or....something like that.

But you're right, I really can't see her joining the Turtles despite her being Splinter's daughter. It'd just be weird at this point.

I also don't see her joining the turtles as living with them. I can see her learning how to be friends with April and assisting with her training as a Kunoichi. But as long as the Shredder wants to try and get her back as his daughter it would put them all in danger.

Perhaps if her mutation is stablized she feels that she should remain as a mutant because she has accepted what she has become and she feels a sense of freedom that she wouldn't have as a human (being fought over by her two father figures). And much like Slash she will be an ally/anti-hero.

As originally depicted Shredder only lead the NYC branch of the Foot, Karai was really the true leader of the Foot all along and took over the NYC branch when it became a threat to the citizens of NYC, this happened because Shredder died.

Basically imagine that Karai is the CEO of McDonald's, Shredder is the guy in charge of a McDonald's in Europe and when he died there was a loophole that allowed the European McDonald's to split from the McDonalds corporation and do it's own thing with McDonalds assets. This makes a mess and Karai goes ahead and takes control of the situation.

From the 2003 show onward, Karai is depicted as an underling of Shredder because, you know, marketability.

I'm rewatching season now, I understand that there are a lot of things the writers don't really know what to do with, but yeah, Karai is one of them.

In the 2003 show her character arc is pretty clear: Bring order to the Foot, struggle with loyalty, stick to loyalty, revenge and forgiveness (and then she repeats step 2 in the movie but whatever). Here it sort of comes off as: Be a total evil bitch, sob over a mother she can't possibly have any memory of, turn good because Splinter might be her dad, get mutated because her not-dad had a stupid plan, run around as a monster, wait to see what happens. She seems more like a plot device for Shredder and Splinter to have character development, rather her having much character development herself.

It does suck because it could have so easily been about the internal conflict of trying to figure out her place, is the father the twisted but still loving man who raised her, or the one who she only has a biological connection to but wants to be part of her life? Nature or Nurture.

But no, instead we get this Star Wars nonsense where the biological father matters to person, just because he's the biological father and thus she can throw away any emotional connection to the man who raised her. You know what I mean right?

Hi, my name is Luke Skywalker! I was raised by my non-biological uncle for the first twenty years of my life and all I knew about my dad were false statements. The day I learned that my father was actually a badass wizard-knight, my uncle was brutally killed, I decided to spend the rest of my life emulating the father I never knew and never spoke of my uncle ever again. A while later I found out that my dad was still alive, turns out that he was a brutal warlord who who hunted down warriors, killed men who surrendered, tortured people without asking questions, dishonored legal arrangements, murdered his subordinates all the time, blew up planets, believed hatred to be strength, cut off my hand and then tried to use me as a tool for conquest. But I still believed there was still good in him and he showed it by saving me for torture... through killing someone...

That what I keep saying when the writers have zero idea what to do with characters and then mutate them which still doesn't do anything in character development.

Now instead of getting excited to see someone mutant, all I can think of "Goodbye interesting character, hello mutant backdrop prop".

I swear to god if the only thing Bebop and Rocksteady will only be use for is henchman 6 and 7, I might lose it. They had gone so much trouble with giving those two unique personalities and backstory then they should make use of that in future episodes. Make them stand out damnit.

I honestly take her willing to drop Shredder for Splinter was simply because Shredder wasn't much of a *good* dad towards her anyway. A good master? Yes. But as a paternal figure for whom she could recall warm memories of him or indications where he maybe, just maybe, was a loving and decent dad? I dunno, this show operates more on telling us rather than showing by having him say, "I RAISED HER! I CARED FOR HER!" Umm, yeah, that's nice, but none of that's really specific and you don't bother even giving me examples where you had genuinely happy moments with her together like any parent and child would have. Honestly, his crazed obsession over wanting her back strikes me more of him just losing his most special 'prize' of him one-upping Splinter rather than a human being who should make her own choices. She's more of a possession than person to him, and just tries to justify it to himself by saying the words, "my daughter" so it sounds more personal and reasonable to others.

Though I will admit it would've been nice to have her actually first have some doubt that she'd be accepted into the family or question if Splinter, despite being her biological father, would even love her at all. After all, not all biological parents make good parents either. Just some weariness for her to take pause before Leo or any of the other Turtles reassures her that everything will be okay.

Are they forgetting that Shredder outright has lied to her her entire life about being directly involved in her mother's murder? And it's not like Karai ever even had a maternal figure to fill that spot anyway. Sometimes I think some of you bitch just because you enjoy the sound of your own voices.

As for Karai, if it were up to me, she'd join the Mutanimals, a group full of characters like Mondo Gecko and Leatherhead and Slash and others who help each other come to terms and control their mutations. They're staunch allies of the Turtles but it'd give a good reason for them (and her) to not be able to constantly save the Turtle's asses. The Turtles remain the underdog while Karai and the other mutants get to stay relevant in the show. You can even have Karai visit sometime to meditate with Splinter and stuff, and have the ending of the show hint she's moving back in with him permanently.

But at this point who the **** knows.

How the hell are people comparing Karai to Luke Skywalker.

Umm, is this directed towards me as well? Cause I certainly never compared her to Luke...

If anything. I do agree with you about him lying to her about everything is a big, big reason why she would want nothing to do with him anymore. In fact, it wouldn't even matter if the two had happy father-daughter moments, since any of them would be immediately cheapened by the revelation.

Not to mention how Shredder turned her into a weapon (BOTH MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY) exclusively because he was so hyped up about the idea of using her against Splinter.

Karai has plenty of reasons to turn on Shredder after learning the truth. There really is little debate to be had here. I think the most it would come to would be Karai hesitating to do the finishing blow on him if it came down to it.

Hey! I loved evil bitch Karai she was so bad ass. But you're right. I loved Karai season one and New Girl in Town was (and still is) my favorite s1 episode. But yup, since her mutation she's become a plot device. I know I sound like a broken record, but how hard is it to write a female character? I don't know why every female character on this show ultimately exists as a hollow shell to move the story along. That, and ass shots :/

Well as much I agree with everybody when it comes to the problems of the show, but at least there is a plot currently going on.

Remember season 2 in which we had no idea where the story was going since the writers seem to drop the "find all mutagen canisters" plot line? The only thing that had consistent direction was the Karai character arc. That being said, we have a reason to tune in now. There is an actual plot line going on and idea of what will happen and yet there are still surprises along the way.

Whenever this story arc ends then maybe they can try another analogy like what they did at the North Hampton farm house, but only when the Return to New York arc has truely concluded. No cliff hanger. I can't go through that again. http://www.narutoforums.com/images/smilies/series2/rlz4ib.png

Honestly they just need to be at least organized when it comes to their episodes, which is something I been noticing lately so I guess the sophomore slump is over. For all we know The Dark Raph arc might be awesome and very well pace.

But it's still just too early to call it a comeback.

I should re-watch this one over the weekend. I started re-watching s3. This will be my first re-watch of s3 episodes aside from Vision Quest. I can't wait to get to this one. Rahzar's laughter at the end is a bit contagious. I imagine he was thinking,"Well, I could have gotten mutated into worse things." I wish Rocksteady could keep his gun. Guess he'll use the accessories he comes with.

I only found out about a month ago that he came with a hammer and a sickle. Part of me thinks it's fitting but the other is like,"C'mon Playmates, make him triggerhappy." Doesn't Bebop hurl bombs? Pretty cool too, although it's going to take me a bit to get used to the lack of guns. Since TigerClaw is second in command, I guess Shredder let's the kitty use all the cool weapons. lol

I'm not sure how to really feel about Nick Bebop & Rocksteady. Maybe its just how great they were adapted in IDW but having them be these already developed characters and hanging around pre-mutation for a long while before them being mutated sort of takes away from their character.

I know they need to do new things and keep it fresh but what exactly is left of these guys? All I can really see is Boris Badenov & Tron Michael Jackson...

Who knows, maybe they'll be really great once we see them in action but as far as the set up as been going I'm not very confident about it.

Me personally, I liked them so much as humans I almost wish they could've left them as is, though I realize that would defeat the purpose of a bruting blonde & purple mohawk sporting dude. But I think that having them around for so long before their mutation gives them character, rather than it being taken away from them.

Not only that, this version of Bebop and Rocksteady are being forced to work with the Shredder, in the original series and in IDW, They were just a pair of Thugs that the Shredder hired, And they volunteered to be mutated, Because they knew they would be more powerful.

Now, that was awesome!!
Camera work, directorship, fight scenes, voice acting - everything was superb. Though, I must say, Steranko and Zeck were much more interesting characters while being their own guys. Not really sure, if they stay as charismatic and entertaining as Shredder's cronies.

Zeck was funny as hell, Sternako was brutal, but, also, awesome. Mikey wasn't annoying most of the time, which is a nice bonus.

Is it just me or Splinter looks a bit different from before? Like something with nose and ears.

I don't know why, but Anton didn't get on my nerves at all. He was the same in Legend of the Kuro Kabuto with all the noises. He reminds me of a more wacked out version of Spidy sans the oises. Spider-man would always quip it out in a fight and I guess that's how Anton deals with stress. Unlike Steranko, he can be quite the chatterer. Like Donnie said, his noises also serve as a distraction. Well, looks like they distracted/annoyed some of the audience too. I'm surprised they didn't bother me. Wait a minute. It helps if you know a dude in both high school and college who goes around making a bunch of the same noises, especially in the college music department. lol

We should be getting episode 11 through 13 (they might combine 13/14 into an hour-long special like last year) just before April. Episode 14 (15 if 13/14 are combined) would probably air in April since it's in the 2nd half of the season.

The season premiere started in October last year, it makes sense for half the season to air in the first 6 months and the other half in the remaining 6 months. October + 6 months = April so... yeah :trazz:

Darn.I'm hoping he doesn't help to even the odds much, because that would show that B&R are already getting severely nerfed. I didn't care for Mondo Gecko as much because of how he looked and acted, but I'm hoping this version is better. Plus I'm hoping he's a mutated gecko instead of a human, we don't have enough mutated animals besides the Turtles and ICK.

October + 6 months = April so... yeah :trazz:I'm wondering if that happens, if 13/14 is the end of the Kraang? It would definitely fit the pattern, and it might be when we see Karai (and the city) get turned back to normal.

Don't know of this has already been said or not, but I am not sure how I feel about the elements of the OT taking over. The party wagon and Bebop and Rocksteady and the fly Baxter Stockman. They used to have the OT stuff as cameos and such, but now it feels like it's taking over. I would love to see B and R do away with Fishface and Bradford though. Those guys are just old hat.I don't think I'll mind mind Bebop and Rocksteady as long as they don't act much like their 80's and IDW counterparts, I'd hate to see Nick Bebop utter 'Toitles' or act so insanely stupid it's infuriating. Or to see Rocksteady have that plaintive dumb look whenever he was upset or walk into things, as that's when I will start hating them. But it looks like all three will rebel against Shredder sometime in the future, so that alone makes them loads different then the OT guys.

But the last bit though, if you feel the OT is taking over, why would you want B&R do away with Bradford and Xever? Wouldn't that just make it even more like the OT with just those two left?

But other then that I agree. I don't want any more visits by the OT Turtles, and I'm already cringing knowing that there will very likely be a Turtles Forever-like cameo by them again in the future. I wanted this show to prove that it can stand on it's on without it, but it looks like the produces don't share that confidence, and think they have to heavily rip off chunks of the OT just to make it a 'success.' Don't get me wrong, I like the OT, but I don't want to see an emulating of it to this degree if it isn't in a show that's not explicitly considered to be a reboot of it.

Ok, so first off, that kinda old Hob cameo was just pure win, even if it was a one off kinda thing. But the scar, the one eye, sooooo old hob.

Secondly, I heard from someone on tumblr that apparently there's a high def image of Karai's human form revealed in this episode out there somewhere, but I asked if they could pass me a link and they never responded.

So, has anyone here by chance seen it?

I'd love to see Xever pull away from the Foot and go off on his own or possibly returning to the Purple Dragons. That would be neat.

I liked this episode. Lots of cool stuff.

No sidekicks. Just the mean green team kicking butt.

The fight on the docks was great. I'm really starting to like Leo in this series. He is the best fighter in the group and will be the one that takes Shredder out. He had no fear.

The purposeful mutation of Bebop and Rocksteady. I think these two will be the toughest enemies short of Tiger Claw. They proved they can be a threat in human form so I am interested to see how they change or improve in mutant form.

Yeah, I think Bebop and Rocksteady will prove to be a great threat to the Turtles, and I definitely can't wait to see how this is achieved. Should be interesting.

And I agree that not having April and Casey there was refreshing. It was nice seeing just the Turtles fighting for once.

And read the rest of this thread, people were constantly speculating that Shredder or Stockman were gonna name Bebop & Rocksteady, which was ridiculous. The show's formula is that Mikey names the mutants, unless one of the other Turtles beats him to it.

Also, Serpent Hunt WAS their debut - at the very end!

You aren't the only one who thought this, though. I know I said it too someplace, that Mikey will probably name them, but was curious as to how. I had no theories for that. It wouldn't have made sense for Shredder to name them since he calls all of his henchmutants by their actual names (other than Tigerclaw) despite their having mutant names.
