So... imagine my surprise when I go to check out TMNTMaster's tumbler for some sort of update about the show. The site's completely gone. :teek:

So, we get our first taste of the new Bebop and Rocksteady. Plus, it seems Donnie's going to try and cure Karai with a dose of retro-mutagen. I'm sure Splinter will be pleased to have her cured, but I'm curious how April will feel - her father's still out there as a mutant. How much longer should he wait?
I hope everyone remembered last night was Daylight Savings.
Show starts in 30 minutes.

Pretty good episode and I like Bebop and Rocksteady in this incarnation. I loved the roller coaster and haunted house parts, it was a nice change of pace.
They were pretty humorous too and I liked how Leo tricked Rocksteady by not giving him his words.

Nice, Bebop and Rocksteady are both credible threats but still not the sharpest tools in the box. Nice having them attack Shredder and establishing that Shredder could off them easily single handedly if he wanted. They'll definitely betray him if they can get the upper hand somehow however.
Plus Casey and Donnie actually works really well together now. Nice touch.

I loved this episode, 9/10 for making me mad that the retromutagen didn't work. Bebop hates his name, great he's going to be like Baxter Stockman hating people that misname him. If any of you waited after the end of the episode, the Mighty Mutanimals are real! Slash, Leatherhead, Monkey Brains, and Pigeon Pete! HYPE!!!

I missed 10 mins of the episode but it was really good episode but sadly it's got overshadowed by Battle for New York as it was released early.
So Shredder has Karai now and it looks like he's going to manipulate her.

I don't post as much as I used to (avoiding the BoNY spoiler is a plus as I'm going to watch it later today), but will continue posting my opinions on each episode. Homages to He-Man during the and a mini-Leonardo vs. Tempestra ride during the coaster scene. Meanwhile, poor Karai at the end, the turtles didn't understand that the mutagen leaked and went into the sea or sewers somewhere. I almost feel like she might get put on a bus for awhile based on her reaction. Next week should be interesting with Slash, Leatherhead, and other "Mutanimals" against the Kraang, especially given it being a double episode. I like how Nick has handled Bebop & Rocksteady; conflicting personalities, not the dimwits they were in much of the OT, and Bebop in particular has more special powers (laser eyes and skating between buildings without needing a rope). We get a cheesy April damsel mixed in, but it was quite an enjoyable episode to watch.
Overall: 8.5/10

Not bad, the new B&R seems to be competent though not having very bright minds. At least they completed their job for Shredder (yeah it's a bummer ending, but this is probably the best way to go for now)

I really liked this episode. Even more so than Battle for New York. The entire fight scene was great but I really enjoyed the roller coaster. Kinda annoyed that Kairi ended up captured by Shredder but all the same, interested to see where that will lead. I hope not back to her being a villain and dragging out her finally being a good guy (or an anti-hero).
As always, I lived Rocksteady and Bebop is finally starting to grow on me. I enjoyed that he hated his name and his talking to much being being a sort of weakness for him when he fights.
Shedder beating them both (and taking a rhino charge head on) was just...damn. I'm interested to see how the turtles will actually manage to defeat him.

So, Rocksteady seems a credible threat, with his strength and speed, I'm hoping they don't nerd these skills in future episodes like they did with Dogpound and later him a Rahzar. I'm sure they will though.
I'm personally hoping Karai, Bebop (or is it BeeBop ala the van) and Rocksteady form their own splinter faction. I don't expect we'll see Karai become a "good guy" any time soon. I mean all three of them have no reason to trust Shredder seeing as he is responsible, plus I'm sure Karai will be convinced that the Turtles are also responsible, as it seems that's the thought of Bebop and Rocksteady, so why not have a team against both sides.
Either that, or maybe have Tigerclaw leave the ranks and take a couple mutants with him, I don't see him following Shredder to terribly much longer, especially with Shredder seeming to be so one-tracked minded as of late.
Also, I laughed harder than probably appropriate when Bebop leveled the retro-mutagen gun and said, "Time for the Next Mutation." Referencing a terrible series (that I really liked) or referencing the original title for the thankfully never put into production 4th movie (though some of those designs did kind of creep into the 2014 Turtle designs). Either way, I laughed.

I really liked this episode, too. I know people are complaining about B&R, but honestly, I like them better this way. I mean, better than being the incompetent nimrods they were in the old series. Rocksteady is pretty smart and has a great backstory other than just being a street thug and Bebop hating his name was great (I'd love to hear him shout "MAMAAA!" though)
Now....since Karai got captured, does this mean B&R are going to tell Shredder about the Retromutatgen? They didn't really figure out that it was DONNIE who made it, though. And, to be fair, Mikey was the one who perfected it, so will Donnie be taking the fall for it? Or will Shredder just capture all the Turtles and force it out of them or whatever. I really hope Shredder focuses on Donnie alone, though. I know we're all looking too much into it, but that "You mean nothing to me" line might be significant.

Loved the carnival setting! The creepy vibe reminded me of IDW's Ghostbusters second arc, it wasn't Coney Island though... Poughkeepsie I think.
Rocksteady and Bebop had a great dynamic. I like Rocksteady better, I feel like they're just going too over the top with Bebop's crazy skill set, his high pitched squeels and stuff. I mean, where the hell did they even get the idea for all that whackiness?
The episode was kind of sad, and I'm definitely left wondering where Karai's arc is headed.

I don't want to over analyze anything but do you think the way Leo splits up the groups he has a reason or just random
April/Donnie cause he knows Donnie likes her?
Raph/Casey cause he knows they're good friends?
just wondering!
Also at the end, Shredder is like "we will cure you, and then have our revenge"
and i'm assuming he means on the turtles, but wasn't his fault Karai got mutated?
Or during the fight sequences did one of the turtles accidentally push her into the mutagen?
I don't remember :-?

This is by far my most favorite episode. Not only did I love the part with Mikey naming Bebop and Rocksteady, but I couldn't help but feel they provided some fan service to those of us who are aware that in the original cartoon Donatello and Leonardo's voice actors also played Bebop and Rocksteady. Then again I might be reading too much into it.

Yeah, he was the reason she was mutated. It was pretty much wholly his fault, but he's delusional at this point. Shredder's mind has kind of snapped and he's convinced himself that he always loved Karai as a daughter (despite using her as bait and locking her up in a cell), and the Turtles and Splinter are the sole reason they aren't a happy family. Shredder's skill set remain, but he's slowly losing his grip on reality in this situation, and he's become dangerously obsessive, which could either aid or abet him in future episodes. I'm convinced Tigerclaw has noticed this, and is very close to leaving the Shredder's service and I don't think he'll be leaving alone.
I mean when half of your Army (Bebop, Rocksteady, Karai and Baxter) all see Shredder as the cause for the way they are, that doesn't necessarily secure absolute loyalty, and his other two mutant henchmen have pretty much just become cannon fodder, Fish-Face particularly realizing that he has pretty much nothing to offer compared to the others, I don't see in real loyalty in Shredder's ranks. Rahzar may stay loyal, mostly because he's loyal to the Foot, but other than that, I see Shredder's support quickly deteriorating.

Its actually hard to believe Shredder now has 6 mutant henchmen:

Starting to feel a little crowded, which makes me wonder if someones is going to be bumped off at some point. I can see Fishface quitting and returning to the Purple Dragons.

I can see that happening with Fish-Face and the Shredder probably won't even care at that point, he's so focused on his vendetta. Tiger Claw will end up leaving I'm certain, and Bebop and Rocksteady are definitely not in it for the long haul, Steranko even said so, claiming they are with Shredder...for now...I don't see them hanging around too terrible long.

There were other members of Bebop and Rocksteady's old gang that got mutated in various experiments that Shredder carried out. And we do see a picture of them on a computer monitor in one episode but I guess they probably scrapped them because of money/time constraints.

Its also a repeat of the Kirby-bat storyline. April's father gets captured by the Kraang in Season 1 and the Turtles save him. Then he gets mutated into a bat and flies randomly around the city trying to track him down. Then he gets de-mutated. Only to get mutated again by the Kraang later in the season. Then he gets rescued and de-mutated AGAIN.
I think its because if Karai becomes "good" forever and returns to normal, the writers have no clue where to put her since she would logically stay in the lair with her father, Splinter. And they don't want that.

Good thing this is isn't a live action drama like the shows based on DC and Marvel characters, otherwise they'd probably "kill her off" and then bring her back a few episodes later.

Oh, you're definitely not the only one.
It's like the writers really didn't want her becoming an ally just yet, so they decided to have mutated (which is *the* biggest solution for making any character more significant now that I think about it) and throw in the "struggling between staying sane and going feral" angle so she'd be a wild card that everyone will fight over more than before.
Because who wants closure, amirite?

Finally a Season 3 episode I was satisfied watching (other than the end). My random thoughts: I too loved the Leo and Mikey team up, I thought it was a little odd Donnie and Raph were knocked out so easily, and I love Leo's expression when Mikey was happy that they were going to the rollercoaster site (Leo, you're too soft on Mikey ^_^). Oh, that next mutation comment was out of nowhere but perfect. Heh.

Great episode. It was just all around great, and it was amazing how much action and story they stuffed into about twenty minutes. My only complaint is how Bebop and Rocksteady acted towards Shredder at the beginning. They were furious for being mutated and then after Shredder hits them a couple times, Rocksteady says, "Okay, we're on your side." Even though it was shown that Shredder's skill is superior, I don't think they'll be loyal to him very long. Heck, they weren't even that loyal this episode, because they first wanted to hunt down the turtles instead of Karai.
Leo was great this episode. Lately, since they returned to NYC, I've been thinking he was too stiff, but he loosened up a bit this episode. "You has my word." Also, his smile when he was going down on the cart towards Rocksteady was perfect.
Not much else to say. Just where was Splinter?

Well keep in mind this isn't meant to be a realistic interpretation of New York like 4Kids went out of their way to make. As for the movie theater, a friend who works at the local Regal Cinema told me that most film projectors are set on a timer these days and play by themselves so maybe one could argue the case that the marathon was planned way in advance.

I really was hoping ice cream kitty was going to get turned back to normal when the mutagen was spraying all over though.
The rollercoaster part was fantastic!
And I really like Rocksteady in this series, Anton not so much...he's kind of annoying.

The end with Karai was pretty sad, I hated seeing her in that cage.

Ice Cream Kitty doesn't ever need to be de-mutated. She's adorable as is, and was ragged looking prior. I was afraid she was going to get splashed and de-mutate, which would've been devastating.

I'm hoping the whole Karai situation plays out that after her inevitable brain wash, she'll regain complete control of her mutation, sacrificing the cure for some noble cause, tell the Turtles and Splinter how much they appreciated all they tried to do for, but she has to go out and figure where her place in the world is, assuring that she'll return at some point. Thus there is closure, she's not forced into an April like position of just being there, and there's no more back and forth. We lose her as a regular character, but save her from becoming completely annoying. Plus it will give the animators a reason to reuse the animation model of her in the jacket, dressed casual, when she first met April.

I just wish they would get rid of the snake mutation entirely. Its not that unlikely since they got rid of Kirby-bat after only a handful of appearances.

I'm fine with the snake mutation, provided she was able to regularly take on the appearance of Karai, albeit with more snake-like eyes, and it was a form that she could actively change into, but tends to avoid due to the fact it kind of messes with her mind.

Loved this episode. I thought the rollercoaster scene was awesome and the best scene out of all of them. Loved the haunted house, too. I had a feeling Karai's mutation wouldn't get resolved, and I was right. I had tears in my eyes when she said, "I just wanted to say goodbye to you all." And now she's been captured by Shredder and will most likely get brainwashed. Loved how Mikey named Bebop and Rocksteady and how Bebop hates his name. The Next Mutation reference had me laughing, too. Overeall, a very good episode. Can't wait for next week's though I will visit the thread because I'm a glutton for punishment.

Really good Ep. The turtles in fine form!
The new interpretations of Bebop and Rocksteady are great, the vocal actors have really captured b&r - the playmate figure needs a drastic reprint for it to look like a true likeness though.

I'm waiting for people to start complaining about racial stereotypes.
Eh. It's not stereotypes, but dated TV tropes I'll complain about. This show is super 80s obsessed, even down to the way it presents its characters. Rocksteady threw a sickle and randomly interjects in Russian. Bebop is a Michael Jackson wannabe who calls people homie. I'm black and the youngest person I've ever heard use the word homie was like at minimum 35. It's super dated.
But I'm nitpicking. Decent episode, the roller coaster scene was top notch, as with all of the fight scenes this season. I can't be the only one who finds Bebop and Rocksteady a rehash of Shredder's other mutant henchmen. Bebop has the same scrawny build and acrobatic fight style as Xever/Fishface. Rocksteady is brute force and raw power just like Tigerclaw and Rahzar. Rocksteady even used Mickey as a wager exactly like how Tigerclaw did in the Manhattan Project. I do like the characters, but I wish they were a bit more original. April was less annoying, although I didn't like the fact that she held her own more than Donnie did against Bebop. Seemed a bit unrealistic. And ugh, just hurry up and demutate Karai already! I'm so tired of the melodrama. I just want to see her be her badass self again.
But once again I'm nitpicking. I like this episode. Kudos to whoever guessed the Coney Island thing.

As for Karai, a lot of us called it that the retromutagen wouldn't work on her a long while back. I was hoping that'd lead to them searching for some alternative or a way to calm her mind, but instead she ended up getting captured by Shredder AGAIN.

Very good episode! The action was unstoppable and Bebop and Rocksteady didn't look dumb like in the original series. They actually fought the Shredder. The boys did the best to cure Karai, but the retromtagen didn't work on Karai. I hope Donnie creates a better one to turn Karai back to normal. Mikey was great by naming Bebop and Rocksteady, although the former hate it. And Rocksteady didn't lose his Russian accent.
Was sad that Karai ended up being capture by the Shredder. I wonder what he is going to do with her.

I'm sure Shredder will continue to call them Zeck and Steranko, because he never stopped calling Bradford and Xever by their names.

This was a really fun episode. I like the groups everyone got split into, since they were out of the norm. Leo and Mikey was especially nice to see, since they seem to interact with each other the least out of almost all of the characters. Maybe Leo was hoping some of his maturity might rub off on Mikey?
I'm glad I'm not the only one who disliked haunted house-type-setups as much as Mikey and Donnie seemed to.
It was probably unintentional, but I found it ironic that Greg Cipes' character ended up chasing someone through a hall of mirrors again. Granted, the mirrors here actually survived the encounter, unlike when Beast Boy was trying to track down Slade, but I still thought it was pretty cool.
I'm happy Zeck still acts like Zeck, and I loved the roller coaster battle scene. I think it's one of the coolest battles the show has ever had. I love how they handled Karai as well, at least up until she got captured again- I think it would've been more fun if the turtles would've had to keep tracking her down to test new retro mutagens on her, and each time a little more of her mind had gone.

The Mutanimals is a portmanteau of "Mutant Animals." They were an assorted crew of mutants who were ally's of the Turtles that existed in the Archie Comics. They had a short lived spin off and a seven issue arc in the Archie comics before they were all killed.

Rahzar and Fishface are only boring because they never get any quality screen time, they're usually in the background.

Just finished watching. I thought it was a lot of fun. BB n RS were great, and the whole episode seemed to zip along at 100 miles an hour.
The dialogue was witty, and it was a nice touch to have RockSteady very happy to have his new name, whilst Bebop thought it was totally stupid and annoying. I think that was the writers way of getting in touch with their audience who would be divided over the inclusion of these two icons from the original show.

That was priceless. I also liked the two actually giving Mikey time to think them up! Sucked that the diversion failed, however.
I loved this episode. Neat to see things picking up where they left off. I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one who teared up when Karai was saying her goodbyes, even though we all know things will probably end up okay. B and R were pretty competent for a change! These two haven't disappointed me so far. I wonder what's to become of that retro-mutagen. Hope none of the turtles end up demutated. As for next week's episode, I suppose I'll have to wait until amazon gets it. Can't wait for BFNY. I plan on watching that one while enjoying a pizza. Hurry up already, next Monday. This is one of those times when I sort of wish I still had cable. I'm very tempted to read the Battle For New York thread but I'll be good. Man, being good is for the pigeons.

Yeah I'm just glad this version of Bebop and Rocksteady are more competent this time around. I've always wanted them to seem a little more dangerous against the turtles as villains. At least they seem to be more of a threat than previous incarnations.

Yeah, they're formidable opponents while at the same their goofy in their own ways. They joke around, show off, bicker and fighter with one another, but at the same time they can take the turtles head on, pick up clues on where their enemy is going, ambush and capture them - they even managed to catch Karai in no time when Shredder's top ranks couldn't even locate her after months.
So far, this is easily my favorite incarnation of the two yet.

Anyone notices that Rocksteady steps on the retromutagen and nothing happens. It is largely possible that he only stepped on the container and never officially touched the substance itself. But it could it also possible that Retromutagen doesn't effect the mutagen as it is now.
His foot was mostly on the container, so likely the retro-mutagen didn't touch him and thus didn't affect him.
But I do agree that they're more competent now, and I think it's going to be a slap in the face to Rahzar and Fishface that these two were able to capture Karai while Rahzar and Fishface kept failing. I wonder if Shredder will keep his promise and make them answer to Tiger Claw. Though I do think one of them may turn on him.

Enjoy it. Loved the return of Bebop and Rocksteady. I man loved these guys, but the originals will always have a place in my heart.
Kinda of shock no one mention the monsters cameo. Frankiestine, Wolfman, Creature of the black Lagoon, I was seeing this and was like OMG. Being a big fan of the 1930's monsters movies, I was shock to see the monsters here.
I did!! I watched the old universal films in my teens as away to get away from the harshness of highschool. It made squeal to see reference to my fave fandom of all time! It was just great to get a nod to them. Someone is a monsterkid in the studio eh? Anyway...It was greatly enjoyed by a classic monster fan like me.

I'd forgotten about Rahzar and Fishface. Hopefully we'll see them in Battle For New York. It's got to be crazy at Shredder's lair with all those mutants hanging around. Oh, I liked that line they put in there about Baxter fixing Bebop's stealth suit. Almost forgot about that.

I just watched the episode today. I thought it was really well-done. I loved the bit where Leo and Mike endure the funhouse as well as them and Raph riding the roller coaster while avoiding Rocksteady. And I love when Bebop hated his nickname. It made me laugh so hard because it felt like it took another shot at the OT for it's corniness. The Karai bits made me so sad though, especially the ending. But she was right about losing control since she attacked a rat at the end of the episode.
Rocksteady for me is a huge improvement over his OT counterpart. He's actually a threat this time and I think his voice actor does a better job than Cam Clarke did (no offense to Cam). Bebop on the other hand is just annoying. The guy only does close combat when he's invisible. Outside the Tron-like powers, there's nothing going for him as a warthog.
Good episode, probably one of my favorites of this season.

Good episode, it is nice to see Rocksteady and Bebop back in action after all these years.

Wow, that was legitimately sad. I expected Mikey to ruin the "departure of Karai" scene with a dumb joke or something but he was serious throughout that entire part.

I loved the hell out of this episode. I adore Bebop and Rocksteady, and it makes me kind of sad that lots of people seem to dislike Bebop in this incarnation… I personally think he's super funny and I like his design and the way his physique contrasts with Rocksteady. It carries over from the differences in their physiques as humans, and also rhinoceros vs. warthog. Besides, I like that he's more of a ranged stealth/tech fighter/tracker as opposed to both him and Rocksteady being huge burly bruisers. Plus, his warthog mutation does have advantages other than brute strength: like he said himself, his piggy nose is better than a bloodhounds.
Love both of their voice actors performances, and that Sterenko seems to be psychologically dealing with his mutation a bit better than Zeck is (which I didn't see coming). I loved Rocksteady's smile at being called "rad" by Casey, and the thought of Steranko doing pilates made me laugh out loud. I cracked up at Bebop hating his nickname, and that his biggest weakness seems to be his inability to keep his mouth shut while fighting, haha! They are both funny, I love their bickering and camaraderie, but they are also legit threats to the turtles. I hope they stay that way for awhile.
Sad turn of events for Karai… I do wonder what will happen with her now.
Overall, this is probably my favorite episode this season, though Serpent Hunt and In Dreams come close.

I am not a fan of Zeck/Bebop. All those Michael Jackson "hee hee"s are getting super annoying. Rocksteady is pretty cool though!

I dunno about you, but I absolutely adored this episode. I loved Bebop and Rocksteady back in the 80s show, and even though the Nick versions are quite far removed, they're still chuffing brilliant! J.B. Smoove is completely killing it as Bebop; his line delivery is top notch and the dialogue he's been given is great. Love both their new looks and the weird-but-kinda-cute friendship they seem to have, and I must say, Bebop's lasers are pretty darn sweet. Nice to see that they both seem to have gained a few brain cells since the original show!
On top of that, it was great to see Donnie and Casey working together again; as much as I adore Donnie (and that's a lot), I find his infatuation with April difficult to stomach, given that it can't go anywhere (pretty sure a kid's show isn't going to have a young girl date a mutant turtle anytime soon! :P), so I like when Donnie stops butting heads with Casey.
Cor, Shredder's going a bit bananas, eh? Loved that he took Rocksteady's rhino-rush completely in his stride, like the complete awesome bada** that he is!

This felt like an itch finally scratched. So happy to have B & R finally in the show properly. Even just hearing their names said out loud made me grin.
(also, Shredder turning Zeck into a warthog & then punching him in the stomach seconds later is reeeally effed up)

I'm not gonna lie; I enjoyed the rollercoaster ride / fight scene. Also, I have to give some applause to Bebop's ability to smell out the Turtles, and Rocksteady's ability to deliver some pain and knock outs.

Heck yeah. Count me in. I'm glad they haven't dumbed either of them down in this incarnation. Bebop is so much sneakier, and he doesn't need Shredder to do his thinking for him. I'm also digging that the sound guys sprinkled in actual animal noises here and there this time around. Makes mutants like these guys, TigerClaw, and Rahzar sound a bit more intimidating.

Yes! I love his little piggy/warthog snorts and Rocksteady's roaring. Not sure if that's actually the sounds rhinos make, but it's definitely animal in origin, and it's definitely effective. :D

Jester: I send you a private message and Krang told me is not against the rules to have the same IP. It's obvious that Donnie and I are too different persons.
Since nobody here speak Spanish I can't post in that language, because nobody will understand me. My problem is solved.
Thank you, Jester for referring me to Krang.

Which episode from the OT is that from? Was it something Michelangelo said?
I have to admit that while I liked this episode and how they handled R&B, I really didn't want them in this series. This is one of the prime examples of OT pandering.

You'd think a thread calling for you to be banned would make it so you knock off the RPing in EVERY. SINGLE. THREAD.
Why not ban him?
All you do is complain and you know it's not helping.

Also...just realized that Steranko is most likely named for comic artist Jim Steranko, the man who drew Nick Fury back in the 60's.
Yup. And Bebop is named after Mike Zeck, he drew Kraven's Last Hunt, Secret Wars, etc.
