New Movie news on the sequel.
Hollywood is returning to the Capital Region. Sources have confirmed to me that a scene in the movie "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2", the sequel to 2014's revival of the longstanding action franchise, will be shot in the city of Albany. The scene will involve a vehicle chase, and shooting will take place sometime in April. The majority of the movie will be shot in NYC, but producers have selected Albany for at least one of the movie's many action scenes.

So I'm guessing one of the turtles or April driving the turtle van and been chased by the foot soldiers and maybe the turtles will jump car to car taking out the foot.

Wasn't there a scene in the Blue Door with the Foot Militia chasing the TMNT on Motorcycles? I always thought that would be a dead cert for the sequel loath as I am for them to take anything from the Blue Door.

Ah, guess that's the stuff they had intended for next month. Don't wish to speculate too much really, but curious if Albany will be Albany in the film (and therefor a hint of locations for the storyline) or if part of it is simply a setting being used.
Yeah, the motorcycle chase. I believe blue door Shredder was driving one... Honestly, I'd kind of love to see the actual Bay Shredder trying to operate a motorcycle while wearing that metal suit.

Awesome! I wonder if the chase will involve Bebop and Rocksteady on a vehicle.
I hope whoever is at Albany, Can take photos and videos of this shoot, when it happens.

Albany is where they shot the snow chase scene for the first one, it was at a ski resort there. Are we seriously gonna have another snowy mountain car chase? Someone needs to remind this "creative team" that this is A NINJA TURTLE MOVIE, not Die Hard! Christ.
I mean, it's a Michael Bay production. He's perfected the art of doing the exact same thing again and again (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Rfup0XKx7o) while getting people to keep throwing money at him. I wouldn't be surprised at all if TMNT2 is effectively the exact same movie as the first one.

Ahh, is that what it was. I'd wondered but had never gotten around to trying to figure it out. I know the winding roads seen for a moment (twice?) is supposedly in Hawks Nest (a small easter egg to me because I'd found out that the river that's seen for a second is the northern end the Delaware - I live near the south end, in the state that shares it's name :D), had thought the building might have been around there, too.
Anyhow, I hope they don't do a repeat. I'm guessing that Sacks is just still located there and is probably behind the creation of Bebop and Rocksteady within that place.

I bet it'll be somewhere along the lines of Secret of the Ooze, Shredder has Sacks create an army of Mutants for him, and Bebop and Rocksteady are the result of that.

Or they will make Baxter Stockman create new Mutants for Shredder with the laboratory Sacks left behind?
(the credits say that he appeared in the first, but I didn´t noticed him. :ohwell:)

Baxter's cameo is so quick it's blink and you'll miss it. He's basically black background scientist with no speaking lines.

So the exact same scene as the snow mountain chase in the first movie, except with MAYBE the Turtle van and MAYBE huge, probably racist versions of Bebop and Rocksteady.
Reminds of this quote from Futurama:
Clever things make people feel stupid and unexpected things make them feel scared.
Can't make your movie too smart or feature too many new/interesting ideas. Gotta be the exact same thing over and over again. THAT'S what the people want!

Yeah, but it won't be in the snowy mountains though but probably on a motorway or a main road with other cars getting caught up in the crossfire.

They are probably shooting in Albana, Because, that's where they shot Erick Sack's base.
I'm willing to bet that, Shredder goes to Erick Sack's place, Hands him the Mutagen canister, And its where Bebop and Rocksteady are created.

The snow scene was one of the most well-received bits from the first film, even from the harshest of critics. And the production team is well aware of that, so yeah. Wouldn't surprise me if it was repeated.
Me? I like that scene less and less each time I see it, so I wouldn't be fond of that particular deja vu.

Assuming Sacks lived, and that they won't pitch his character. It wouldn't be wise to keep him, considering how redundant of a character he is - although I do like William Fichtner a lot.

He most likely ended up in jail by the end of the 1st film, But he probably bailed himself out with all his money, And then he goes back to his home that's near the snowy mountains, then Shredder makes a surprise visit, Hands him the vial of mutagen.

If Platinum Dunes was run by intelligent decision-makers, they would ditch the worst parts of the 2014 movie that would have little impact on the story going forward.
I nominate Vernon and Sachs. Sachs was going to have huge impact, and then the script was violently castrated. Vernon is just annoying as well as useless.
And where most of you would argue against Megan Fox (some of you with legitimate grievances, while I suspect a good number of you simply hate on her because everyone else does), recasting her would have a much more visible impact on the movie going forward, and as such is much less likely to happen.
But please, for the love of God, don't bring back Vernon or Sachs. PLEASE.
Oh, and the Blue Door script was 75% crap, but it did have some gems. The Bebop & Rocksteady versus Splinter fight was pretty awesome, and I hope they keep it for the 2016 sequel!

He did dip his finger into what was left after the container was smashed, while he was laying in a crater in the pavement. So even if they don't even have any more mutagen, me thinks he will be sneaky and will analyze that small sample in order to recreate it.
I'm sure the only way Fox would be out is if she herself chose not to return to it. Probably have a better chance of winning the lotto than her being replaced. As long as sorts like Bay are involved, no way they're taking out the woman with a camera target on her ass. After all, in the 21st century that is more important than, you know, the acting, more suitable casting, etc.

Fifty bucks says there's a line of dialogue where Bebop says he can't read something. For the lulz, yo.
Then Rocksteady can piledrive two of the Turtles through a building (one Turtle for each hand), and the building can collapse. Audiences like it when things fall down and go boom, right? It'll be exxxtreme to the max!
Then Bebop and Rocksteady will finally be defeated when Mikey takes them both down by throwing bottles of Crush soda at them (product placement - check!). Right in the middle of the big fight scene between Super Shredder and the other three Turtles, Fox O'Neil can tear off her Victoria's Secret bra (more product placement - check!) and throw it at Shredder - his feet will get tangled in the bra straps and he will fall to his death (or will he?! Dun dun DUUUUN!) from the top of another skyscraper. Utterly epic.
The final scene shows shows all of our heroes together. They've won the day and saved the city from certain something - doom, viruses, plotholes, military whatsits... the specifics aren't important, we'll fix it in post. What is important is that Fox O'Neil is in her bikini, washing the Turtle van. The Turtles, Splinter and Vern are all sitting in the background reading Victoria's Secret catalogs. It's a fun and heartwarming scene.
Cut it and print it - I think this one's in the bag, folks! :tcool: You can give me my $500 million now, thanks.

I don't recall Splinter getting his ass handed to him by B&R in the script. Actually, he does a pretty good job of cleaning up. Except for the sheer mass and strength they possess, of course... not very unlike the current IDW comics.

To be honest -- and it's a low bar here, so keep that in mind -- what other performances really stood out in this movie? Megan Fox was Megan Fox, Whoopi Goldberg, Minae Noji and Tohoru Masamune had almost nothing to work with, and while the Turtles' actors got some praise around here, honestly, only Noel Fisher as Michelangelo impressed me much at all - and even then the material didn't do him any favours. The material was bad, but Fichtner and Arnett are both very competent actors who were able to make some impression in spite of it -- not a great impression, but again, low bar.
So I can see why the studio might see them as assets to this series. It's pathetic that two of the few roles that could be seen as "highlights" (at least compared to everything else) have absolutely nothing to do with the actual concept, but that's the movie they chose to make. :ohwell:

Gah. Your logic frightens and depresses me. Personally, I think all of the mocap and voice-acting for the four Turtles was great. But apparently, unless you're Andy Serkis, you're not a real actor if you do mocap. :tgrumble: So you gotta have human faces to promote your film, so the little kiddies can identify who you are.

I am honestly frightened that this may be the case. What I would LOVE to see is Vern get killed and his cousin Casey comes to avenge him. Odds on that happening?
... Same as the odds that Oroku Saki was a former exosuit used by Ch'rell, who had moved on to become Eric Sachs in America. Remember that theory, when we were desperately clinging to hope? :tcry:

Hey, I don't agree with it, but a lot of people think that way - including a lot movie executives. There's a reason the "human" characters tend to get the focus in movies with mocap/creature characters. And then there's the expense issue - we know for a fact that they cut a lot of things out of this movie because they couldn't afford to animate it all, so from get-go there's a limit on how much the Turtles are going to be on-screen in their own movie, and even then, when they are on screen they're mainly going to use that time for over-the-top action at the expense of any actual character work. So, y'know - just have Megan Fox running around and bring in the guy from Arrested Development to make wisecracks with the bulk of the screentime that's left, right? (All this has been covered here before, but y'know, bears repeating.)
I wasn't trying to disparage the Turtles' actors, though. I do think they did their absolute best, so I should have worded that differently - it's the material, the direction, and the style of the movie that let them down. Donnie and Raph were bland stereotypes, Leo didn't have much personality to speak of. They could have, and for all I know they did before the footage was hacked to pieces, but it doesn't come across in the movie as it was released, IMO.

Exactly. And from a business POV, it makes some sense... but from a story POV, it's terrible and somewhat insulting, too. Come watch April, Vern, Sachs, oh, and some mutant CGI characters, too!
Donnie was definitely the worst stereotype. I really wish they'd toned down the nerdisms on him.

If they didn't have the Turtles constantly in motion and pulling off otherwise impossible acrobatic stunts, then I imagine they'd be able to afford a lot more screen time for them. If my knowledge is correct here, even that is very expensive. I thought there was some interview with the cast where they said they had to cut some scenes alone those lines because they were putting most of the CGI/animation money on action scenes? (Unless I imagined that?)

Nah, you're probably right. I feel like it'd be cheaper to have them be still, but merely having them on the screen might cost the same regardless of what they're doing; I honestly have no idea. Either way, I think some down-time scenes are something the sequel needs, since the lack thereof was one of the first movie's weak points. Just my opinion.

Which is interesting because, Jeremy Howard who plays Donatello, Says he would like to see the sequel have quieter moments.

It's entirely possible -- or hell, even probable -- that the "quiet moments" are cheaper, but they're still so expensive (and massively more expensive compared to filming Megan Fox running around) that unless it's absolutely necessary, they won't justify spending that kind of money on it unless it's pure action spectacle. Consider the mindset going into making these movies - I'm sure any CGI/effects moment that isn't crazy/explosive action is deemed "boring" by the people calling the shots. Unfortunately.

Those quieter moments would add to the running time, If they had quieter moments in the sequel, It'll probably run around 2 hours.

Sure. And most comic/action movies are around two hours long these days, which is why they can deliver great action scenes and the essential character/plot work that makes it hold together as a story. TMNT could have had that too. I wonder if it's purely a budget decision, or if the Platinum Dunes producers just don't think that their audience can or will pay attention that long?

It was too damn long and I didn't understand what the hell was going on, it felt like 2 plot stories jumbled up so it didn't make any sense. I nearly fell asleep watching it. :ohwell:
So basically - you need enough time to let the story breathe and give the characters some depth, but you also need actual good writing and directing to make it work at all.
That said... the 1990 movie was only 93 minutes long and it managed to do right by (most of) the characters and make you care about them and their story. So the latter part's definitely the most important one. :twink:
(I know the 1990 movie gets brought up a lot here, but I think it's a good example of using runtime and action/character balance effectively.)

Didn't the first Transformers reach the 2 1/2-hour mark? Or at least near it? Its budget was only $25 million more than TMNT, and the former was 2.5 hours while the latter was 1.75. So I think the post-production cuts and reshoots for Turtles had something to do with the shorter length, 'cause with the additional footage it may very well been 2 hours.

Transformers isn't exactly a family friendly film, Which is why they can get away with most of the stuff.
TMNT is owned by Nickelodeon, Who is all about being family friendly, I'm sure they want the movies to appeal to Kids more then to appeal to the adults, Which is probably why the running time is under 2 hours.
I'm sure Nick doesn't want the movies to have too much quieter scenes, Cause they think the kids only want action.

That's the weird part, though - Transformers originated as a toy line and a children's cartoon. With guns and violence, admittedly, but still - aimed at kids.
TMNT originated as a violent indie comic, but was popularized by a toy line and a children's cartoon.
Gotta wonder why Paramount's a-okay with Transformers movies being so long and violent, while TMNT has to be short and (comparatively) more kid-friendly.

That's likely the case, and it's really unfortunate. They're cynically underestimating their audience. The TMNT story/property has a lot more potential than that, but they're cutting it off at the knees.

Well, Keep in mind Transformers is own by Hasbro, And they don't care if those movies are violent or not, Since those toys will sell very well for them.
Nick on the other hand, Has a strong focus, on being kid friendly with all the properties that they own, I'm sure they gave the filmmakers some guidelines that it should be aimed at the Kids.
Remember the interview with Michael Bay and the Producers, talking about the issues they had with the TMNT movie, regarding the tone? I bet its cause Nick wanted the movie to be kid friendly and less dark.

Very possible too. But... even the Nick cartoon has gotten pretty intense, serious and character-driven beyond what many might expect from a "kids' show". Though a major motion picture likely has a lot more executive attention/meddling, so there's that.

You might have a point there. But I still think they originally intended to make Turtles longer than it was. And I wouldn't go so far as to say Transformers wasn't at least somewhat kid-oriented. I'd say pre-teens and young teens were most definitely the target audience.

Oh, totally. But the same "it's for kids!" mindset probably helped them answer all of those problems/questions with "who cares?". Odds are they just didn't think it mattered. Which is a lousy attitude no matter who your audience is - it sells the audience short and assumes they don't care or won't want anything better or more. Lousy, cynical filmmaking.

Agreed. Honestly, of all the comic book movies in the last decade (since they exploded onto screen), 2014 TMNT has to be the worst ever. So much potential, and yet nobody running it bothered to give a frak.
I've hated my share of current movies (IM3 for the "Mandarin", Thor 1&2 for being meh, Man of Steel for carnage/destruction overload), but that's been on creative choices or playing it safe. TMNT was just... damn. :tcry:

I need to watch it again, it's been years (a recently purchased DVD is sitting on my shelf and waiting for me)... but it's AMAZING how much they crammed into that 1.5 hour movie without it feeling overblown.
Faithful adaptations of Raph meeting Casey Jones, Shredder, the Northampton retreat, plus managing to balance many characters (Splinter, TMNT, Shredder, Casey, April, and some new characters I never cared about). I don't think the movie aged well in some parts (those baby turtle Muppets are atrocious) and the final fight was cheesy when Shredder's standing around flexing waiting for them to attack... but wow. So much heart in its production! So many people giving a frak!

Challenge accepted. Let's literally have a fight scene on top of a car chase. Fox O'Neil is driving the car (followed by several Hummers full of nefarious military-esque villains who are shooting at them), while two of the other characters are brawling on top of the moving vehicle that Fox is driving... we'll choose Rocksteady and Raph because it will be way brutal, brah. Rocksteady and Raph don't have to worry about the shooters who are firing, because they are both bulletproof. We throw in a little shaky-cam action so you can't really tell what's going on, a flurry of CG and bam - you've got your Bayhem. I'm telling you, the audiences will love it - don't be a hater, you just don't understand that it's popcorn entertainment, mmkay?
Now in the last movie, Vernon took out Sacks by hitting him with a microscope. In this movie, Vernon's going to take out Sacks by throwing a ham sandwich at him. Sacks will slip on it and, because he's about 60 years old, will throw out his hip - thus putting him out of action til BayTurtles 3. Audiences love bumbling anti-heroes, comedic relief and hilarious pratfalls. Don't argue with me - I am a genius and you are all just jealous hater-nerds who can't appreciate a movie without picking it to pieces. :tcool:

Lol, sure. He's the best live action Vernon to date. He's also the worst.
As a character that few to none of us cared how he turned out, I'm just glad he wasn't a whining little b*tch dead set on making sure every audience member is at least tortured to some degree. :tlol:
I still love that articles before it hit theaters mentioned Vernon as among the "fan favorites" of who was expected to be in the film. So great to know the film makers understood what was important. :tlol:That's still not as bad as Sacks being listed as one of the "fan favorites" expected to be in the film.

Again, I am going to ask "Why was Vernon in this movie?".
Because Hollywood Movie Formula 101 demands that there be a side character for comic relief. A quick glance at their Cliff's Notes for the FW cartoon showed that there was a side character called Vern whose name they could use, and bam - there's your answer.

No, this is patently f*cking false.
Michael Bay said he saw a cut, it was too serious, and HE said to lighten the thing up. Not Nick.
Michael Bay and his production studio made this film suck. Not Nick.
I'm sure the production studio made a lot of changes, but I wouldn't go as far as saying Nick didn't have a hand in this film's mediocrity. I think anyone can agree Nick would make the final say in the tone being light.
Anyways, as far as the film shooting in Albany; I think it's interesting. I would love for them to showcase all of New York and not just the city. It would feel a lot more fleshed out if they showed all the boroughs like Long Island, Queens, Brooklyn, The Bronx. I would love to see the Turtles interacting in those settings. It's cool that there's production taking place upstate.

It was Bay's misguided decision. Factually. Aside from Nitpicks, Nick has given both their animated crew & the IDW team pretty wide creative freedom. The cartoon is full of body horror, references to adult media, & under the radar innuendo, while the comics have their fair share of bloody violence & swearing. Bay is at fault, period. He made the call to change things, at a time where I have no doubt that Nick execs already saw rough cuts of the film without taking issue.
& what's interesting about them shooting in Albany? They shot there for the last one. FYI they shot a bunch of stuff on Jones Beach, so LI is already covered.

Shredder recovers from his fall and uses a tiny bit of the mutagen to heal himself of his various injuries. He goes back to Sack's lab and brings with him Baxter Stockman, telling him and Stockman that they better work on creating more mutagen 'or else' because he wants his own mutants to better fight those 'freaks.'
Well, meanwhile April is trying to get her job back. Hanging with 4 Turtles doesn't pay the bills while living in NYC, so Bernadette decides to give her another chance just this once, mainly because she is down one or two reporters and needs someone to cover the feel good 'fluff' stories for the time being.
While traveling to one of her assigned stories, April notices something suspicious. Pulling over, she's shocked to see that it's more of the Foot, and these catch sight of her and capture her. Before she is captured, she uses the Turtlephone to try and call one of the Turtles, however she hits Vernon's number by mistake, and gets him. She still begs him to get help from the Turtles, but him wanting to be a tough guy, decides to try and rescue April himself. He uses the phone's GPS to track her last signal, and arrives at the place she's at (an abandoned warehouse.) He gets captured and tied up,and taken to Sack's and Baxter's lab along with her.
Shredder comes into the lab. He gloats that if she she is going to be Turtlebait to bring the Turtles, but because her meddling brought about so much trouble, he's going to add in a punishment. Not for her, but for her boyfriend Vernon, and she's going to watch him carry it out. April screams 'No,' and Vernon tells her, 'No matter what happens, I'll always love you."
Shredder orders Sachs and Stockman to hook Vernon up to some device with tubes, where they proceed to pump mutagen into Vernon's body, with Baxter injecting a vial of Rhino DNA into Vernon's veins. Vernon mutates, while April screams.
Meanwhile, Shredder uses the captured Turtlephone to call up one of the Turtles. He mentions that he's captured April, and that they better come before his freaks kill her.
In the background, Baxter mumbles to Sacks, 'Freaks? What freaks? We only made one." Suddenly Sacks pulls out a gun and points at him, saying, "Well, you are going to be freak number two. You are an expendable asset right now, and you know too much. Get in the other chair." Baxter is frightened, and complies by sitting in the other chair.
Sacks' ties him up, and hooks more tubes into him. He injects Warthog/Wild Boar (I can't decide which) into Baxter's arm and turns on the mutagen pumps. Baxter is screaming, while Vernon is already making rhino-like noises (whatever those sound like.)
Meanwhile, the Turtles are rushing to get to April. Mikey is having one of his moments and is exclaiming 'My precious April!" while Raph tells him to shut up. They are driving through traffic and one of the van's tires gets popped by a pot hole, forcing them to get out and travel by rooftop. Mikey complains 'Awe, we gotta walk?" while Raph deadpans a 'Well, maybe it will burn some of that pizza off your butt." Donna mentions something about triangulating Aprils' coordinates and Leo talks about making sure nobody sees them and needing to trying to find the fastest route possible to get there. Donnie suggests riding atop a train, and Leo agrees. They hop down a manhole, and find their way to a station. They all jump onto the roof of a train that Donnie says is going in that general direction, and they hop on.
Back at Sacks' lab, both men have finished mutating. They straining in their restraints, and both are making animal like noises. April has tears in her eyes, and mouthing "Vernon, Vernon..."
The Turtles' train carries them close enough, but after they jump off Donnie says that traveling on foot will still take a while for them to get there. They find a parked truck in the shadows, and Donnie breaks into it and hot wires it. Two Turtles sit in the front and two hunched down in the truck bed, and they drive the rest of the way to Sack's lab. They encounter some Foot, but their bullets don't affect the Turtles.
The Turtles burst into the lab, and Vernon and Baxter become excited and break from their restraints. The Turtles and the new mutants fight, but the new mutants end up proving to be a match for them. Mikey quips that they guys like to hit hard, and that he can't land a hit on them, and during this, one of them ends up knocking him and Donnie against the wall. They land against a wall, and Mikey quips 'We're getting tenderized dude! We gotta do something!"
*Meanwhile in the background, Shredder quietly leaves*
Well, Donnies notices that where they land is some power cables, and this gives him the germ of an idea. Looking quickly, he notices some sprinklers on the ceiling, and a plan now fully forms. He yells, "Guys, get to someplace non-conducting quickly!" The other three look at him for a moment, and then quickly scramble for anything non metal to stand on. Mikey grabs April and goes for a pile of rubber mats, Raph, goes for a stack of wooden pallets, and Leo goes for a sturdy desk. Donnie jumps up, and whips out a cigarette lighter as he gets a hold of a beam, and lights it under a sprinkler head. The sprinklers activate, and Donnie yells, 'Guys, cut open those power cords!" The guys all throw their shuriken at it, and the power cords start to spark in the water. Vernon and Baxter are caught in the electrical discharge, and are electrocuted to death.
Soon the power stops, and Donnie determines that it's safe to step down now because a fuse blew and cut the electricity. They free April and she's crying, and runs over to Vernon. He's clearly dead, and the Turtles decide they better get leaving and not risk sticking around.
Donnie decides hot wires a Clan Humvee, because there isn't enough room with April now. Two Turtles ride in the Humvee and two are in the truck, and Mikey is consoling April. In the background of the lab, there is another Foot soldier watching them through a window as they are leaving. He tears off his mask, although we only see him from the back. He turns, and the screen fades to black. *It turns out to be Casey Jones*

Granted all movies get some pieces cut. Kind of wonder if that got cut because if they're trying to be "realistic" and he's trying to be disguised, the images we did see looks like he'd stick out like a sore thumb. The animation folks did well with the cgi of the stuff the Turtles were wearing, I've wondered if the trench coat would have worked out better if they'd just gone cgi with that instead.
I wouldn't mind seeing them try it again in the/a sequel, but cgi it; and might work better on Mikey's smaller form.

Not showing Raph in a trench coat was a complete miss opportunity, It could've been a nod to the 1990 film.

A rather sad reality of the continuity they set forth in last years movie is that what happened in the latest IDW issue can't happen.
Nor could anything like the story line in Leonardo #1 and it's subsequent arc or any of it's adaptions of that story like in 1990 movie, the 4kids show and the current animates series happen in the new movie. Which is a shame because not only has some mileage come from the the characters dealing with an injury, at very least it heightens the tension of a battle scene knowing these characters can be hurt. Even the light-on violence Fred Wolf show showed them injured sometimes. You can't portray that in the sequel not without downplaying their immense strength and ignoring their healing ability which I hope they do but am not holding out for it.
Even if they did what's the likelihood of this happening? The turtles are not the center of the movie and even if they were and the writers were inclined to include something like I don't think it would be done well. After recently giving it another chance recently I think what many people thought was the "saving grace" is how well the turtles and their family aspect was done isn't anywhere near good enough to deal with the kind of dynamics such a story would bring out.
Not gonna happen, Considering the TMNT movies are considered family films.
And the IDW series is a family friendly comic. We've had assertions from people involved stating that Nickelodeon vets everything with the possibility of young readers in mind.
Several family movies have portrayed similar or more overt things onscreen that what IDW did in it's latest issue.
Then again "family movie" is a broad term but it's seems people are using it in the context of the 2014 to mean "aimed mostly at the under tens" which is strange as it's sexual humor and over the top (if toothless) depiction of action doesn't exactly scream good time for the little ones and certainly throughout the production what little the creators where telling us it certainly didn't seem like they were aiming squarely for kids and I remember at one interview they claimed the opposite.
It's mainly retroactively that it's been billed as a "family movie" in that sense. Interestingly I've yet to see anything but anecdotal evidence it was even that popular with kids.:ohwell:

There are many things I dislike about the movie but honestly I consider this a bullet dodged.
There has always been a suspension of disbelief with the turtles donning disguises but the way the set photos made that scene look was too ridiculous even in a movie like we got.
Same with the turtle van. I can't imagine that thing involved in an actual battle.

If the movie wants to kill anyone off than, I dunno, be different and kill off April. That way the Turtles might even get to be the actual stars of it.
But anyone hurts Leo then I hurt them... even if it is only mentally (calm down FBI). I dunno about the comics, but at least other two versions of him ended up unconscious last year. How about a bit more good dialogue in the second movie, good action, a bit of development, and let him dodge much of the potential hurt. >.>
There has always been a suspension of disbelief with the turtles donning disguises but the way the set photos made that scene look was too ridiculous even in a movie like we got.
Agree, it just ended up looking too bulky in their effort to make it fit cgi Raph's size. Works well in 1990, but here their size just overdoes it.
I doubt Leo could get away with it either. Might just make Mikey look like a lil' chunky butt and get away with it a little more since he's not so huge; Donnie might get away with it if he'd take all that stuff off him.

http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-2-film-nyc-buffalo-article-1.2157366
The action flick sequel, “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2,” will begin filming next month in New York City and Buffalo, which officials estimate will result in $70 million in spending.
The bulk of that money — $63 million — will be spent in the Big Apple, according to Paramount.
"New York City knows how to host blockbuster films," said Mayor de Blasio.
“We welcome ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2’ to New York City, and look forward to the many jobs and tens of millions of jobs this will bring to our local economy.”
The details of where the shoots will take place and what stars are featured are being kept under wraps.
“We can only imagine what the filmmakers have in store,” said Cynthia Lopez, commissioner of the mayor's office of media and entertainment.
70 million is a lot of money to spend on this film, But then again, It could be higher when you have to take into account all the CGI they have to add later.

Let me explain: The first movie did a...somewhat decent (though incredibly messy) introduction of the Shredder. And now that we know he possibly survived the fall, we could have him sit out the second film and focus more on the origins of the ooze.
I've only seen the movie once while it was in theaters, so I'm probably skipping a few parts, but remember how Sachs said that the mutagen was created by an ancient alchemist from hundreds of years ago in feudal Japan? What if that "alchemist" was an Utrom who was looking for test subjects for the mutagen? Yeah, that'd be borrowing from the Nick show, but this IS produced by Nickelodeon, so there you go!
Anyway, Kraang and the Utroms have been living on earth and have been working in secret with the help of Baxter Stockman. Stockman is promised protection and insurance of not being enslaved or mutated in the global domination the Utrom have planned if he agrees to use the mutagen for them to help build an army. He and Sachs are the ones who go to O'Neil and together they form the Renaissance Project.
Stockman is upset with Sachs since Sachs is sharing the knowledge of the mutagen with Shredder and wants to do that idiotic "Quarentine half of New York and become stupid rich instead of just rich", but is unable to stop O'Neil from burning down the lab. Stockman has been secretly hiding out with Kraang and his Utroms, then discovers Sach's plan.
I assume Sachs was likely arrested for...being a douche and later released because he has enough money to buy his own law firm if he wanted. Anyway, Stockman is there at Sach's mansion and tells him how he botched up his great plan and hands him over to Kraang, who take Sachs into their custody and mutate him into some giant creature that Turtles will likely fight and kill at the end of the second movie.
This would also be a good way of bringing in Bebop and Rocksteady. They could've been "volunteers" who were mutated by the Utroms and agreed to serve them until the invasion.
Of course the Turtles come in, stop them, stop Stockman, and the Utroms are defeated. Or assumably defeated. Then during the credits we see Kraang overlooking the city and swearing vengeance and that's when Shredder shows up and offers a pact.
Stupid idea? Obviously, I just came up with this a few days ago. I just thought by having Kraang AND Shredder in the same movie without giving us enough time to learn about Kraang and the Utroms would be even worse than reshooting the scenes with Sachs as Shredder and coming up with that moronic scheme. Plus, having Sachs mutated early on, thus giving him a sort of "Cyclops in "The Last Stand" treatment would be a nice way of tying up his story arc. I REALLY hated this character.
Sorry for making that so long...

Other than, they start shooting really soon and are "still trying to work in" characters like Casey. SO, no script, either! "Point, shoot, and Scotch tape it all together in post-production!"
Seriously, I'm sorry, there's zero chance this thing can be any good. It's like they're writing the book on "How To Succeed In Movies Without Even Trying... And, In Fact, Doing Every Single Thing Wrong."

Remember back when some of us were hoping Sachs would turn out to be an Utrom exosuit upgrade for the original Oroku Saki (ala 4Kids cartoon)? Then it turned out, nope, this is just a really messy way to reassure audiences that we know Shredder is technically supposed to be Japanese and OF COURSE we weren't trying to whitewash the character.
Bitter disappointment, utter disbelief, shattered dreams... Good times.
And yet, a very small and very foolish part of me is clinging to the hope that maybe Eric Sachs will turn out to be an Utrom in the sequel.
Foolish, foolish me. I should know better. And, in fact, I do. But hope doth spring eternal...

Eeeeyup. All part of being a creative fan. Though, to be fair, sometimes a bad movie based off something you love does give you some good ideas. Like you take the things you liked from the bad movie (and for me, that was pretty much anything NOT involving any human characters), then fixing it around to see what you would've changed in the second movie. While your theories don't even come close to what actually happens, you do give yourself a little pat on the back for creative ideas.
Just saying.

An overflowing closet packed full and bursting at the hinges with explosions, plot devices, lame ideas, half-assed story, celebrity names, lame acting... The title "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2" is scrawled in permanent marker across an unnecessary gold plate on the door. An arrogant and wayward film maker desperately tries to keep everything contained while the door forces itself open a few inches beyond his control; his hand is shoved through that space while he shouts, "Get in there, Turtles!"

Surprise! The sequel to 2014's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has already begun filming! The scenes involve Will Arnett, a supermodel and an NBA basketball game.
Last night at the New York Knicks and Los Angeles Clippers game, Alessandra Ambrosio filmed a scene with Will Arnett, who plays Vern Fenwick in TMNT. Alessandra was spotted kissing Vern on the cheek. Guess the Channel 6 Eyewitness News cameraman is over his crush for April O'Neil (Megan Fox), or he's just trying to move on. Not a bad way to move on. You can see pictures from the shoot by clicking here.
And later today, more scenes will be shot, but these will include some of the basketball players from the game. Los Angeles Clippers players DeAndre Jordan, Matt Barnes, J.J. Redick, Austin Rivers and Spencer Hawes are filming a scene today for TMNT 2. "Jordan is the only one currently slated to have a speaking role in the scene," thescore.com reports, "though Rivers plans to improvise something."

Does this seem very un-TMNT? The kind of crap that no one watching will care about?
Well wasn't that what we got with the main bulk of the 2014 movie. Did they not listen to critics? To fans? I know it's a small thing but this being the first piece of news of what is actually going in the movie sets up that this will be no different. Vernon has no business as a focus character and he certainly wasn't a popular aspect of the last movie even with the people who liked it.
This isn't really bad for the multitude of people who who disliked the movie it but the many fans who defended it as a decent enough start, that things will be different and they'll listen to fans and fix all the mistakes for the sequel and ditch the characters no one cares about and focus on TMNT and their story. Instead we're opening with news of the kind of crap which could have been in the last movie.

Dammit, if they want to go for ridiculous, then just go all the way. Yes, just get basketball jerseys on the Turtles and get them on the team. I support this. At least in that case it would focus on them.
Maybe it's just a quick shot of Vern on a date (wah?), but speaking parts for athletes... eh? (No offense to said athletes.)
If New York Knicks don't get speaking roles, then I offer a hearty "boo!" for the NY-living Turtles who can't.

Personally I'd be using the team the Turtles themselves would more likely be fans of.
If they at least add in some down time of the Turtles watching the game, even just at home (carrying on like any other sports fans), I can forgive this. :trazz: (That would be kind of adorable... Too good to be true I'm sure.)

I'm moaning because of the cost involved. A big reason the Turtles didn't get as much screentime as they deserved was because of the $$$ associated with the CGI and VFX.

How much did they spend to shoot in NYC last time? Because you didn't get any real feel for the city at all in that one - if they didn't state it was in New York, I'd have believed it was in any generic metropolis.
That's fine, though. Because the sweeping aerial establishing shots and scenes at NBA games more than make up for the Turtles being supporting players in another of their movies, right!?

The reason it annoys me is, it's wasted resources. They're already trying to cram the movie with more stuff while not spending significantly more money on it, and beyond that... did anyone honestly ever say this kinda thing is what they'd hoped to see in a TMNT movie? Two minutes or two seconds, I completely don't give a sh*t about this kind of thing in a movie about Ninja Turtles. It's just even MORE focus on absolutely anything BUT the supposed "stars" of the movie. People complained last time, and even people who liked that POS were like, "Just wait! Next time it'll be chock full of Turtley Goodness!" No. You're wrong. If anything, we'll see even LESS of the Turtles than last time. Bank on it.
Nobody actively wants to see this sh*t. Whether it "bothers" anyone or not, whether they'll tolerate it or not, that's not the point. It's a waste of time, and it shows you exactly what kind of things are of value to the people behind this project. It's also a waste of money, because I doubt they're getting to do this scene for free, or for cheap.
Misplaced priorities.

Bingo bango. Odds are the first movie gave us as much "story" as we're ever gonna get out of this series. From here on out it's just more loud, jerky action scenes and explosions and product placement. And more and more scenes of "fan-favourites" like Eric Sacks and Vern to pad it out and keep the CGI budget shaved down as much as possible.

Why would there ever need to be NBA players or an NBA game in a TMNT movie?
Great idea to spend less screentime on the Turtles to give us Vernon at an NBA game with some rando model. It's an even better idea to spend some of the production budget on NBA players/renting MSG/etc instead of using it to fix some of the terrible CGI (I'm looking at you Splinter).

Bay's career at this stage is basically a stiff middle finger to the public.
Unfortunately, we're in this situation because people keep paying to see his movies. This is the bed we have made for ourselves.
I can't even be enraged, like - this is Bay. This is what he does - he makes movies for 15 year old boys. It was always going to turn out this way, and people are still going to kiss his butt and call it icecream no matter how many critics and fans complain. Bay will always make mega-bucks off his movies. I can't even pretend to understand why people like his work, but his private jet seems to attest to some people clearly liking what he does. He who has the gold makes the rules, and for the people who were dissatisfied with the first BayTurtles movie, there's zero point hoping that this movie is going to be an improvement on it. It simply won't happen. Bay has no reason to do anything differently - he knows he can push out the same thing over and over again and people will pay to see it because hey, they did the last time and it's only popcorn entertainment right?
So... it is what it is.
At this stage, I'm mostly just left with a morbid sense of curiosity. We know it's gonna be bad... but how bad are we talking here? At this stage, it's all just a matter of degrees.
I'll just be in the corner with my popcorn, watching the car wreck unfold.

Seems a bit excessive to have actual NBA players being in the movie just for a short scene, wouldn't they be more expensive then actors?

I do find it weird having basketball players cameo in the movie, I would of thought American football players are more popular and paid more than basketball player. I don't care for American sport it's boring, especially American football, I tried watching it for 10 mins once and got bored, it's more boring than rugby but that's just me as I'm from the UK.
I just hope the scenes are under a minute.

Not really. They're paid alittle more than extras. DeAndre probably getting the most as he's the closest to a star player in that lineup but they aren't netting a million for this.

Y'know how people make fun of the Vanilla Ice cameo in Secret of the Ooze because it instantly dated the movie and prioritized promoting a celebrity before actually telling a damn story?

I didn't say they would be, but they're still likely gonna be a pointless distraction. It's the same thinking: wasting screentime and resources on celebrity cameos, promos and obnoxious product placement instead of putting that time and energy toward making a good Ninja Turtles movie.

Maybe the football players require more pay then they were actually willing to spend. lol
Although I think football is pretty much off season right now, so that may be a main factor. Likewise for baseball. Basketball is still in season and it looked like they may have shot the actors at an actual game.
I am seriously getting more and more pissed off the more I hear about this sequel.
There there... Don't burn out too quickly, it's only getting started.
Alessandra Ambrosio (who ever the hell this is?) is just playing herself, huh? lol I guess it's easier just to be upfront about not requiring acting skills from some people, particularly the women on screen. Guess they really only need something the camera wants to look at.

Remember all the stuff i said would happen and did? Good times.
I definitely remember you saying that Japanese Shredder was "secretly" in the movie the whole time, and that Sachs being Shredder was all a big scam... and then the actor himself confirmed that they had basically him come in and shoot a few scenes in an afternoon. And then Sachs was Shredder in both the novel and the video game. And the more it was made clear that the whole thing was a last-minute "fix", the more you insisted that it was planned from the start. That whole thing was tragically hilarious.
It's like your mutant power is the opposite of mine. I've got that Scarlet Witch power where I can manipulate probability, and every single thing I say comes true. Meanwhile, your track record is comparatively horrible. Not taking cheap shots, brother, just doing the math.
Also, more pointless cameos! Radical! Just what I wanted. Even more not-Ninja Turtles in a Ninja Turtles flick. They're gonna have six minutes of screen time in their own movie, and half of that is likely going to be them getting teabagged by Bebop and Rocksteady. Awesome.
At this rate, in TMNT 4, all four of them will be dead, and Splinter will train April and Vernon to battle Super-Duper-Cyber Shredder and avenge their deaths. And in a stunning reveal, Whoopi Goldberg will turn out to be Krang, the mastermind of everything from the beginning. No wonder she fired April. Can't wait. All of that is going to be so totally f***in' neato.

I really don't think Powder's grievance really has to do with order of scenes shot. I think his point was, we really know nothing about the movie, and the very first thing we find out for sure is this, and that's kind of a drag. Like, not "Guess what? Casey's definitely in", or anything like that. The first solid news we find out is this. I think that's what he was getting at. Not what scenes were shot first, but simply, that whoever at PD is responsible for releasing information and building a buzz, picked a really puzzling place to start from. "More Vernon. You guys are gonna be so excited."
That's like going on a date, and the first thing you say is, "I'm glad we could get together; it's been really hard for me to date since that whole incident with the dead hooker." Why do you have to be so pessimistic, Leo!? That's not how it's going to happen at all! :trolleye: Have a little faith!
The Turtles will get sucked into Dimension X where they will become the gods of a planet of humanoid Turtles, the vast majority of whom are female and look like Venus de Milo. Oh, and Shredder's gonna be a monster with blades growing out of his skin. It'll be AWESOME.
In all seriousness, though, for 2014 I figured half of us were pessimistic (rightly so) and half of us were optimistic. I think the numbers for 2016 are gonna be 90% pessimistic (rightly so) and 10% optimistic (self-deluded).

Bingo again. They could put out almost anything to effectively tease this movie before the on-set reports start to trickle out. How about an Instagram shot of a fingerless-gloved hand clutching a hockey stick (provided Casey's actually in this)? Some kind of Photoshop job of a rhino and a warthog in a lab? Literally anything?
The Deadpool movie's also shooting now, and they've given us teases of the character's mask and gloves, followed by a super cool shot of the full costume today. Stuff that sells the main character and the movie and gets the fanbase excited. TMNT2 has given us... Will Arnett at a basketball game with a supermodel. For a Ninja Turtles movie.

:tlol: Actually, in terms of getting more female characters that are both badass and not so thin that would be kinda decent. In most cases I'd be rolling my eyes a bit at the breast size often in fan art, but at least in this case it fits her proportions better.
Now, I'm sure a movie version would probably turn out to be what nightmares are made of... Though I expect the actual Bebop and Rocksteady to be that anyhow. (Universe have mercy if they need lips in order to speak.)

Here's a little update from On Location Vacations, that TMNT 2 will start filming in late April.
Last week, a couple of our readers sent us tips about something called Half Shell was filming near Madison Square Garden.
At the time we suspected, and have now confirmed, Half Shell, is the working title of the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sequel that is scheduled to begin filming in “late” April. Well some blogs are reporting Half Shell is the new film’s official title, we’re hearing it is just a working title for now.
It’s also safe to assume the scene filming near Madison Square Garden was this basketball scene.
Though the movie did film one scene last week, it doesn’t look like principal photography has actually started yet. There are no further extras casting calls posted yet and no other production notices have been spotted.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, aka Half Shell, will once again star Will Arnett as Vernon Fenwick and Megan Fox as April.
Be on the look out for more Half Shell production notices around NYC and be sure to let us know if you spot them!

Watch Fox and Arnett end up on the poster this time... o.O If they have any speck of a hint of what's good for them they will never do it.
I have to say I'm surprised that with Megan Fox still involved they'd even bring in this model to put in front of the camera, presumably as the new T&A of the film. You must be losing your touch Megan...
Either that or they've decided that not blatantly sexualizing the main female character enough means "bring in someone else to do that to."

Michael Bay has always been about "more". Pay me more money. Spend more money on the film. Make the turtles more huge. Add more metal to Shredder's armor. Add more explosions into this scene. Add more CGI. I mean, more is always better, right????
That's just what this Victoria's Secret supermodel is for: more boobs and butt for the 13-year-olds to ogle at in addition to Fox's character. I'm sure she'll have no importance in the story, no real interaction with any of the characters (Mikey will probably make a rape joke about her though), and no real dialogue either. It's kind of a shame.
I don't care if a supermodel is in this film. What I do care about is that she won't add anything to the film, and will only serve as eye candy to the sexually desperate.
Say what you will about Bay, but he knows his audience well: yogurt-brained teenage boys.

Heard signs for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 spotted around 5th avenue and 72nd st in NYC for today

Looks like they are getting closer to start filming something there soon and guessing they are putting notices up to make sure people move there cars before filming starts.
So if anyone who lives near that area try and take photos or record something (that's if you can get close enough) :D

Think we gonna need a The Official TMNT 2 (2016) set Photo/video thread soon. I could do one now but I thinks it's too early and don't want it have a lot of arguements in it.
By the way where in New York is 5th avenue and 72nd street, is it near Times Square, Midtown ect or on the outskirt somewhere.

Consider it done.
