View Full Version : What will happen to April's Dad next?

As much as I wish the writers would just leave April's Dad alone and move on from him, I get the feeling they'll find some way to "get rid" of him once again as tired as the plotline is getting:

- Season 1 he was captured by the Kraang and locked in one of their labs for the entire season. They rescue him for the first time at the end of the season after abandoning him at the lab once before to save April instead.

- Season 2 he's mutated into Kirby-bat and ran loose around the city. They de-mutate him and he's saved a second time.

- Season 2-3 Kirby is mutated again into a Kraangezoid and transported into Dimension X. The Turtles save him once more and de-mutate him.

He probably will get captured... Again! or Mutated... Again!

Honestly, I would like him to be more active in the next season, He was totally under utilized from the previous seasons. He's a scientist, So he and Donnie get along great.

A few episodes where he sees how far April has come and is both proud and saddened by it. After an episode where he and Donnie clash whilst both attempting to help the TMNT scientifically, he comes to realise he's superfluous to the group. He promptly takes his leave to help Kurtzman's group, feeling he can actually contribute there. Removes him from the everyday of the show while keeping him 'in April's life'.

Given his name is, "Kirby" I wouldn't be surprised if we get an adaption of the Mirage Donatello micro and Kirby gets left behind in the other drawing dimension as Don escapes.

I don't know about the Drawing Dimension. But certainly an episode where Kirby is helping and both Kirby and Donnie are in another dimension with only on of them able to escape.

Technically, Kirby O'Neil is a psychologist. Kidnapped to get to his daughter.

I do agree about being underutilized and a joke of being captured/mutated. It would be nice to see her parents used. Aside from IDW they really have never had a role. They were very minor in Mirage. It would be more characters to compare/contrast between IDW and Nick.

Mutated into Kirby, if they're gonna make him a turtle.

Am I the only person who actually doesn't mind that crazy things happen to Kirby? The second season, his getting mutated, was...wow. Then his getting hit again after being cured was just hilarious to me. "Groovy!" Then again, I do have a strange sense of humor.

Anyway, remember how he was right before the invasion? That strange look he was giving them while curled up on the couch? I wonder if that's going to get played up in some way. Why have that in there to begin with. If I've learned anything from watching this series, that you can't dismiss things outright fully, no matter how small or insignificant it may be. It may come up again in a future episode.

If that's the case then we are both terrible people because I laughed so hard when he was mutated for the second time. Did he say "groovy" right before he was mutated. I forget. I just know he was showing off his hippie van and said something kinda silly then boom--he was a mutant again. I was like pfffff! Bwahahaha! x'D

I actually want them to leave Kirby alone after this.
It's too frustrating for me to watch.

I think that he would cross the line of being a protective father. Maybe he will not let April go outside, to hang out with the turtles or with Casey; he would no anything to keep her away from any danger. In a way that it could endagered his father/daughter with April

Maybe he's Bishop or something, I don't know, I don't care anymore. I don't trust the crew to be creative with him...

Yeah I think that too and maybe becomes too controling over her.

I don't trust Kirby I think he has a lot of dark secrets he has kept from April. I don't think he's going to mutate again but I do have a feeling he's going to become evil.

Personally, if they're not going to do anything relevant with him, they should just kill him off. I'm tired of him getting mutated all of the time. I'd love to see him unite with Kurtzman and maybe investigate the Kraang with him. That would be neat and still have him in April's life.

DAAAAAANG, BubblyShell22! :tlol: Kill him off!? Yeesh, you're a merciless one!

Keep in mind, everyone, that we've only seen Kirby's story from the turtles and April's perspective. Before we think he may go bad because he's so secretive, you might want to consider he is like that for April's safety. *shrug* I think we should give him some credit. Yes, he's a dangerous person to know since trouble follows him but keep in mind he's done nothing but help everyone so far. :tsmile:

Actually I'd like to see him stay much as he is, but have some of the other turtles occasionally turn to him for advice. Maybe have him as a kind of surrogate dad/secondary emotional support for Casey or the turtles.

It seems more his role, especially if he's a psychologist by training. Maybe it will be him who they go to for advice when Raph turns (and maybe Raph tries to see him for advice first, but is unable to follow it and turns anyway).

God, imagine if Kirby's mistake is what causes Raph to switch sides? That would be an unexpected way for him to get back at the Turtles without really trying to :)

Maybe so, but if they aren't going to do anything relevant with him and keep mutating him, he may as well be dead.

It's like what I've said before, he's the writer's personal punching bag. If they ever want to do something with him, it's usually involves him getting into danger for the sake of creating drama for little ol' April. Or it's just done so Splinter doesn't get competition of being her surrogate father. Or sometimes it's both. Hey, they don't care about doing anything meaningful to this character, so why should we care?

I can totally see Kirby being under Shredder's mind control, If they pour some of that chemical into Kirby's drink or food.

However, Hasn't that already happen before? the Kraang had Kirby under some control in the 1st season.

BubblyShell22

Yep, he was under mind control in the finale, so I wouldn't want that to happen again. It wouldn't surprise me if they did that though.

Didn't the Kraang attempt that already? I realize Shredder may not know about that, but it wouldn't surprise me if they went that route.

Sorry for the threadomancy, but figured this was the right place for this...

Watching the rerun of Wrath of Tigerclaw today... I notice Kirby has April's number listed as;

'April O Neil'

Quite... formal....

This has me curious. What father would ever put their daughters full name down on their cell phone contacts list?

Even if he knew multiple Aprils surely his daughter would be listed as 'April' and everyone else would have surnames or nicknames attached? (like Work April for instance?)

Obviously I'm reading too much into this, but it struck me as an odd thing to have when the show has shown repeatedly that everyone else appears as first names or nicknames on the cell phones.

This makes me wonder if Kirby is actually April's real dad. I could understand this odd entry more if it was made by someone who isnt actually that close to April at all - a govt agent posing as her father for example. From someone who IS actually her dad, it just seems weirdly unnatural.

well given the look he gives anyone that even gets close to april, i think he'll finally go nuts and blame the turtles/casey because he thinks their trying to take april away from him.

You may be on to something. After all "Mom-thing" did say "Where is Kirby?" Instead of saying "Where is your father?"

And O'Neil is April's mother's family name as the farm house belonged to April's maternal family.

So maybe Kirby isn't April's father. But he has reason to pose as her father for April's protection. However like many stereotypical protective father figures I doubt he's thrilled about the idea of his daughter being of interest to boys.

With his suspicion towards Casey his primary concern would be Casey's motives. I.E. Does Casey see April as a conquest? What sort of future does Casey present April?

As for Donnie's feelings towards April, Kirby probably knows Donnie has feelings for his daughter. But he doesn't have a problem because he doubts April sees him beyond a platonic level. So as long as they are just friends he's okay with Donnie's companionship with April. However if things escalate Kirby might have more of an issue.

The writers don't seem to know what to do with him besides make him an object of April's angst by mutating and de-mutating him. Since we've already got Donnie to do the sciency-side of the show Kirby's taken a backseat for most of it.

I say kill him off, but first have him spill the beans on the whereabout of April's mum and why's she's in hiding.

I'd say take a page from the Mirage Donatello one shot and have Kirby be trapped permanently in another Dimention. I.E. they have a situation where only one can get through the closing dimensional portal. Donatello is able to get through, but Kirby is only able to toss a note through that only says "Look after my daughter."

Donnie is upset by this because April's father is gone, and this time he's unable to do anything to get him back. And as a result Donnie feels he has failed her thus ending any hope of him being with her.

VA, wives and husbands call each other by first names all of the time, so it makes sense that Mom Thing would call him "Kirby" instead of just saying, "Where's your father?"

I agree that he's been through a lot, and I hope that they'll stop mutating him so much and give him a bit of a break.
