What the heck's going on with all the websites? First TMNTMaster's blog is gone, and now nickandmore.com is kaput...
So, Casey is crazy enough to try and go after Shredder himself. And we have hints that we'll be seeing the Hun of this universe... let's all hope he doesn't get mutated like the rest of Shredder's henchmen.

Maybe if he mutates he'll look more like the REAL Hun.

Figuring we still have the dark Raph storyline and Casey faces the Shredder this episode, can't it be that Casey is kidnapped and Shredder forces Raph to join him if he doesn't want Casey to die?
I mean we have a break after this episode so i'm not surprised if they leave us with such a cliffhanger...

Guys, I kinda screwed up with making a forum involving the episode, I'm sorry about that. Anyways, I'm really looking forward to this episode, even though the cliffhangers are getting annoying as this point. An hour till showtime, finally Hun is coming back. :tsmile:

one of my only issues with the show has been the lack of ppl about in the city. until now, and ya it was when shredder and rest of his mutants were just cruising thew city on bikes and then walking right in day light to there meeting.

Yes, but still almost everyone else is involved. Solid episode that really is a good start to the season's second half with the Purple Dragons and the Foot now solidly united and with the Lair back to normal, complete with a pretty nice battle at Auman Chemicals. I just hope the TMNTMaster and Nickandmore shutdown isn't a sign of a personnel change in the show. Now with a break, a good time to catch up on other things.

I really wish there was more focus on the Leo vs. Shredder fight, since their ACTUAL big fight is being foreshadowed heavily, but other than that, the episode was pretty damn near perfect.
I don't know why, but one of my favorite parts was when Shredder pinned Casey to the table. It just shows how observant over his surroundings he is.
Also, it's great to know that the seeds for the Dark Raph arc have been planted. It's kind of awesome to know that Shredder's going to have a Turtle turn against his brothers.
Vicky82
03-22-2015, 09:39 AM
Great seeing them return to the lair but have to clean up. The Kraang knew where they were living but now they are gone so the lair is safe for the turtles.

Great episode overall. I was expecting more focus on Hun, but he was cool. Loved when the 70's kung fu movie music came on lol.
It was cool that they addressed Casey sitting out the big Kraang fight, and brought in a Mafia character. Vizioso right?
I really hope April and Kirby get some focus soon though... Buried Secrets is going to continue to get on my nerves until she asks him what is up with her mom.
Shredder on that Foot bike was cringeworthy.
Yeah, I don't know why the **** they did that. I understand Casey had to see the Foot heading somewhere, but they could have done it differently. So silly.

Solid debut for Hun and a great ending fight. There's lots heavy foreshadowing, whether that be good or bad is up for everyone to decide. Good start for the second half of the season with the Foot Clan, can't wait to see what happens next after this next break.
Also, I've meaning to ask as I'm not aware of the comics, but what exactly is this "Dark Raphael" story? I've heard of Dark Leo, but could use some clarifying.

Agreed. They wouldn't have filler episodes, let alone episodes without Raph, and all the Dark Raph episodes will probably feature the same storyline. I doubt they'll do what they did with Karai (having the story, but also having filler episodes in between the story.)

Basically Shredder uses mind control to get Raphael on his side. The same thing happened in the IDW comics with Leonardo instead.
Same thing also happened in the last season of the 4kids cartoon where Khan got all 4 Turtles under mind control to work for the Foot.

Yeah I don't get why people keep trying to predict doom and gloom for the series future. Its obviously going to last 7 seasons and make at least 150 episodes before it ends. Anyone who thinks this won't last as long as 4kids TMNT is kidding themselves.

Can we let a human villain in this show finally stay human for once? Its bad enough Karai was mutated (even if its probably only temporary), but to see Hun mutated too would be awful.
The only way I would like to see Hun contaminated with mutagen is if it somehow makes him muscular and gives him blonde hair, sort of a "Hulk-like" transformation rather than to an animal.

It was nice to see the show being consistent in remembering that an alien invasion had happened. I wonder what other ramifications will this lead into other then seeing EPF?
Hun didn't really wow me. It was more like "so this guy is suppose to be Hun."
It was a little odd seeing Casey going after Shredder despite might hearing/seeing of how vicious he is after being around a cripple Leonardo for a few months. It was similar to how Mikey should have know by now of how important the retro mutagen was and wasn't something for him to play with.

Okay that makes a little more sense. Maybe I misheard it, but still I find it odd that a guy who looks a giant fish with cyborg legs is head of South American gangs. His backstory from the show made sound like he was lone work for hire crook that was pull out of jail.

I think everyone would prefer a Dark Raph than a Dark Donnie. Raph needs a good storyline and I think Donnie has already has had his time to shine for now
And for most casual fans of the show, the dark raph arc will be a surprise....only people who frequent the boards know of this. I'm sure a lot of kids who watch this have no idea

No, Tatsu was Japanese; they made Hun a Chinese in this series, or more specifically, Bruce Lee.
Bitsy83
03-22-2015, 11:12 AM
Welp......we were guessing how they were going to work in the "Dark Raph" arc and I think Donnie just gave us our answer. But, how EXACTLY did Donnie KNOW it was a mind-control serum? I'm no chemist, but that seemed a bit too plot-convient for my liking. What, did it say "this serum will alter the brain of anyone you pour it on, making them completely under your control" in really really tiny wording? :trolleye: (Trying REALLY hard not to sound like a whining troll here, guys, so apologies in advance if I fail).
Still, I'm glad we got to see Casey being Casey and not the rival for April's affections, though we did see him looking at April from above. Speaking of which, I wonder how she organized that little soup kitchen deal? Did Kurtzman have a hand or did the non-brain controlled EPF members set it up?
Back to Casey. I loved the "Pain 101" ref, love to see how he's upset of being sidelined, and am glad he's going to do his own thing instead of being the tagalong for the Turtles.
As for Hun, he seemed much older than I gathered from the NYCC animatic. At first, I thought he'd be a skinny teenager, but he seems more mid-20s. Kind of like that, though the Bruce Lee refs were a bit heavy-handed. And the "ooooo--waaah" Kung-Fu cries made me cringe. Still, Hun had a decent debut and it'd be nice to see him stay human.
Now, I know it's confirmed that Raph will be mind-controlled, but I SERIOUSLY hope it's not like the monotoned, robotic "I-am-under-your-power-because-my-mind-is-like-a-machine-and-must-obey-every-command." To have it be like the Dark Leo arc and Raph is forced to think Shredder is his real father or that his brothers betrayed him and left him for dead or something like that would make it so emotionally great.
Someone mentioned earlier how if he used it on DONNIE, that would also be a good move, but only if Shredder finds out about from Bebop and Rocksteady that the Turtles had access to retromutagen. This throws my "torturing Donnie" theory out the window, but that might have been for the best since it would have been considered too graphic....unless they're going to do a watered-down version of issue #44 where Bebop and Rocksteady confront Donnie....
(I'm sure most of you know what I'm talking about, but for the sake of spoilers, I won't go into great detail.)
We've already seen some pretty messed up stuff on this show as far as scary imagery goes, so it wouldn't surprise me if they went deeper into emotions and intense scenes. And Ciro Nieli also worked on Teen Titans and that got a bit intense, like in "Haunted" when Robin was being driven mad by "fighting" Slade. There was one point where he was so battered and bruised, he was trying to crawl away, but Slade dragged him back in and dealt a few more blows. Or in "Trouble in Tokyo" when Robin pummels the paint monster (forgot his name) and is splattered with bright pink paint which the cops mistake for some type of odd blood. And don't even get me started on the Raven/Trigon story arc....
So Ciro isn't afraid of pushing the envelope and if we did get a scene like in #44 where Bebop and Rocksteady beat Donnie to a pulp, so much that his shell is cracked open, it shouldn't be that much of a shock. I'm not saying SHOW anything graphic, just have it implied, like have a cut away scene here and there to just leave an implication.
Ok, that went off topic, but I would like to see some emotionally intense moments like what we got in Teen Titans since the same guy is on board. I just hope we don't upset too many parents with "Screwing up their children."

The ep was aight though Mikey (and to a lesser extent Casey) was just unbearable. Getting really old of his schtick by now. I know the show can't be 100% serious and I guess for whatever reason the show needs at least one comic relief character, but tone it the **** down Mikey. It almost looks like he's purposely going around thinking 'whoops, the plot is getting too serious, better make some gross jokes with cheetos before the kids change channel'.
This ep really showcases the downside of a teenage Casey. He really has to start stepping up his game if he wants to be taken seriously as one of the gang. Despite everything, even the win at the end, he felt more like Zack the 5th Turtles trying too hard to be useful. Zack also used a hockey stick, didn't he?

So Ciro isn't afraid of pushing the envelope and if we did get a scene like in #44 where Bebop and Rocksteady beat Donnie to a pulp, so much that his shell is cracked open, it shouldn't be that much of a shock. I'm not saying SHOW anything graphic, just have it implied, like have a cut away scene here and there to just leave an implication.
Or have Mikey make a comment about that like he does with Leo in the Season two finally.

...................that one wasn't about Shredder and his goons though... that was all about the Kraang and Kraang Sub Prime. Why would they be there? Think before you post.
The official appearance episode with Rocksteady and Bebop began directly after the moment they were mutated. They first try to retaliate but Shredder takes them down and says they can either obey him and live, or they can die at his hands. They agree to obey him...but only until they find a means in which to betray him. He then sends them out to find Karai as they were able to do so before.
The two of them decide decide to attack the Turtles for their interference. Bebop takes out Donnie and April. It's here he discovers the retromutagen, but he doesn't know what it actually was at the time. He also picks up Donnie's t-phone and tells Rocksteady where the others were. Rocksteady attacks Raph and Casey and takes them to Coney Island where Leo and Mikey are looking for Karai. The thugs tell the two turtles that their companions are their prisoners and if they don't surrender they would kill the two humans.
Mikey distracts them by trying to find while Leo tries to break into the van to rescue everyone else. Bebop then pulls out the spray gun he found on Donnie and Mikey blurts out that it was retromutagen. Bebop is about to spray Mikey with it until Rocksteady points out they could use it themselves to return to human.
The two thugs are eventually defeated after an epic battle on a roller coaster. Karai then appears to them and Leo uses the retromutagen on her which supposedly doesn't work on her. Leo is confused as to why it didn't work until Donnie reminds him that her Mutation is different. Karai then tells them that she wanted them to find her so she could say good-bye to all of them and she swims off. Leo vows to find a cure for her.

Just after she says goodbye to the Turtles, she's caught by Bebop and Rocksteady while hunting a mouse. She's brought to Shredder, he vows vengeance and promises her he'll change her back, then the episode ends with Karai hissing at the camera.

Bebop/Rocksteady probably weren't in this episode because they can only have a set number of voices per episode. This ep had a lot of characters:
4 Turtles
Casey
Splinter
Shredder
Rahzar
Fishface
Tiger Claw
Baxter
Mob Boss
Hun
Which is 12 voices.

In the past they only saw him with the mask and/or face paint on, they didn't recognize him this time because he wasn't wearing any of those. In fact, he disguised himself as a busboy/waiter working in the restaurant. He didn't have all his gears/weapons with him too.

I wonder if when this Mind control serum is finished, I expect Shredder will want to test it on someone, obviously he can't choose Karai just incase it goes wrong so I bet he captures a turtle which ends up being Raph and use him as a test subject.
I expect this serum is either put in food and water supply or injected.
Poor Donnie I expect he will try to make a cure.

I guess that Karai will be unmutated and will also be mind controlled along with Raph.
It would be interesting if Donnie is attacked by BB and RS, a bit less intense than #44, but incapacitated to the point of being badly injured and leaving Leo and Mikey alone to save Raph and Karai.
Also, if Donnie has the mind control sample, can't he come up with a cure too? Maybe before it even happens?
Loved the reference to Class 101, the fact that splinter repaired their bowl and they kept the lair. Hopefully, they can fix up the Shellraiser too. Mikey needs to be more serious. From eating the rotten food to freaking out over the remote to eating the cheezy balls, it's just too much. At least he fought well.
I'm sick to death of Leo always getting beaten down by Shredder. I know there is probably some rematch showdown coming, but he should get in a few cuts or something to him every now and then.
Good Raph and Casey scenes. I'm glad Raph went to help him instead of blowing him off.

If injected, the blow dart that was used to poison Splinter in The Manhattan Project might be used again, or maybe Steranko's tranquillizer gun that was used to hunt Karai in Serpent Hunt.

He shouldn't of been eating the Cheese Balls anyway as it's bad for him. I was looking at the package it says it has Red Dye 42 in it. So I looked it up and we have Red Dye 40 which is put in some foods and apparently kids who eat food with Red Dye 40 in, make the kids hyper especially kids who have ADHD. So I blame the cheese balls for Mikey's strange mood in todays episode.

Good Raph and Casey scenes. I'm glad Raph went to help him instead of blowing him off.
If Raph is under mind control, the writers could in just do it where Raph gives away all the knowledge he knows about the turtles' plans which would include how they plan to cure Karai.
Which could ultimately be how be how Shredder learns of the true retromutagen.

Great episode! Pretty fun, great action, good Hun debut. Not much more I can say, because there were very few faults.
I love that Hun acts and looks like Bruce Lee. This show loves referencing martial arts movie stars, because it seems like Rahzar's human form looked a lot like Chuck Norris, or is that just me?
Mikey did act a bit hyper this episode. I thought he was past the gross-out jokes? I don't remember him having any recently, at least cringe-worthy ones like the pizza in this episode.
And how did Donnie know right away that the chemicals were for mind-control? I can imagine him figuring it out, given enough time.
I noticed for the first time today that Splinter keeps the bowl he bought the turtles in on the shelf in the dojo. Was that always there? Anyway, that's pretty cute. They even had a pink plastic palm tree. :)
Kind of stupid that this episode was advertising a Casey/Shredder showdown that never really happened, as the turtles rushed in before anything took place. And then the turtles praised Casey at the end for facing Shredder when 1) it never happened and 2) it was really stupid and they'd told him that.

Ok, late getting comments in. Not a bad one, I was afraid the Turtles might mostly be out on this one, but it was a nice balance even while being a Casey-focused episode. But April? April who? lol She must be with her dad I guess. ...has Casey found his family though?
But their making fun of/laughing at him when he went back to the lair...:tlol: You boys are bad... But if we're supposed to get the idea that Casey feels unappreciated or less useful lately, then it worked.
Not a bad Hun character, he's kinda cool.
So the glowing stuff DOESN'T hurt?? With the appearance of molten metal, it was hard to just accept that as harmless stuff that just...glows for some reason. lol I think Hun fell into some? For a sec I questioned if they killed him off that soon. :tlol:
AND... a little surprised the Turtles and Splinter are moving back home, but glad they are because I always loved their place. (Now, Leo and Donnie's rooms in future episode please?)

Pretty awesome episode. I loved how Casey really wanted to be in the fight with the Turtles, though what he did was very stupid and reckless. Loved the movie reference with the Pain 101 line. Hun is awesome and definitely has some skills, so I like that. Jeph, I, too, had the Cheesy Poofs song in my head when Mikey kept eating the cheeseballs. Mom was laughing at some of the stuff Mikey did though like when he was running on the conveyor belt. I loved Leo's fight with Shredder, but I don't think it's the big fight yet. I do hope he gets one though, and it may be during the Dark Raph story. Also loved the Auman Chemicals plant and how the Dark Raph story will come about thanks to said chemicals. My guess is that either Shredder will use the mind control on Karai, and she in turn will hypnotize Raph, or he'll use it on Raph. Overall, a very decent episode. And I love that they have decided to stay in the Lair, too.

Liked Hun, but he did feel like a villain of 'Casey's league' if that makes sense. I dont know if that's always been the case, but it would have been nice to see him compare to one of the Turtles.
Mikey being .... Mikey was fine and he had by far the best fight moves of anyone outside of Hun. He reminds me more of Jackie Chan everytime he fights.
Overall, a good solid episode and nice for April to take a backseat for a bit to give that space for Casey to develop.
That said, I have to say that the foreshadowing at the end was about as subtle as a brick to the face.
Probably the poorest Crognard ep as well :(

I think everyone would prefer a Dark Raph than a Dark Donnie. Raph needs a good storyline and I think Donnie has already has had his time to shine for now
And for most casual fans of the show, the dark raph arc will be a surprise....only people who frequent the boards know of this. I'm sure a lot of kids who watch this have no idea
True, Donnie has had enough focus, guess I was just thinking that if the word was spilled to Shredder, he'd take control of him to force him to make a retromutagen. I'd say any of the Turtles should be mind-controlled as each have their own pros. Either take Mikey or Raph as of all four brothers, they aren't too focused on in the main story, especially Raphael. (He is my favorite Turtle, I completely agree for this now)

That whole Shredder on the motorcycle thing..... Now it hit me. As a crimeboss Shredder should have had a limo or some kind of pimpin ride instead, driven by one of the Foot... and then have the others surrounding it on their bikes for protection.
I'd say it was done so that Casey could clearly see it was Shredder and it would give him reason to follow... but it still looked lame as hell.

Well, there goes my idea of the Kraang hijacking him and giving him mutagen in exchange for hired muscle or something.
That was a very nice episode. Shredder, Hun, Casey having a chance to shine, the fight scene and ending. I really enjoyed it.
I'm glad the Kraang are gone. (for now) Shredder just makes for a far more interesting villain. (Although I did like Kraang subprime, he was different)
Only thing I didn't like was the scene were the turtles were laughing at Casey. Man, I found that painful to watch. For having gone through a lot and having spend months in the farmhouse together I found this scene just mean. Casey was vulnerable and they just piled on him. Even Leo went along making fun of him.
And I was surprised Raph didn't go after Casey after he left. He should have known by now Casey would only want to prove himself even more after this. I know this scene was meant to be funny, but it rubbed me the wrong way. It just makes the turtles look like jerks.

Ok, I want to comment some things and ask for a little help.
1º) How can the turtles just return to the old lair just like that? Are they crazy?!! The Kraang are obviously going to return, and since they know where the lair is, is like pinting a bluuseye on your head!! Besides, who says the Kraang didn't share the situation of the lair to the Shredder?
2º) Casey has been a real stupidhead taking so much risk in this episode. But I have to admit it, if he didn't, the good guys possibly wouldn't have discovered the truth.
3º) I really don't want to see a "Dark Raphael" arc or stuff, and I really think the whole mind control serum is going to a catastrophic weapon against the good guys. I really hope they will manage to found a counter formula against that thing.
4º) I need a little help about something. Did the turtles discover in this episode that Shredder has Karai prisioner again? I'm not entirely sure about it. Please, tell me if you know.

I guess but thats kinda like having bigfoot as your lawyer. He probably speaks so eolquently but how on Earth are you going to hide the fact that Bigfoot is your lawyer. I know that the crime underworld is different but people will still talk. People will always talk.
I find it funny that they never really thinking of being undercover from the government. I keep getting a feeling that there going to be a ET scene with people jumping through the windows and taking them out their beds or something
Thank god I'm not mutant because I'm already paranoid with the way that I am now.

Having Bigfoot as a lawyer is a different sort of thing, though. We're talking about criminals, who usually have an unspoken rule that you don't talk about your leaders, or betray the gang- unless you REALLY want to shorten your lifespan drastically. Having some really strong and menacing brutes who work for someone as ruthless and cruel as Shredder as your leader is probably akin to living in a country run by an iron-fisted dictator- you just don't say or DO anything to annoy them, if you want to keep your skin intact. There might be rumors, sure, but no one is going to go against them or talk about them where they might find out. As for the government- you know what they say about snitches.....

So Hun is like Bruce Lee.
That was my first impression, too. The only thing I didn't like was Mikey eating rotten stuff. Disgusting! Overall very good Casey Jones episode. Fishface calling Donnie a weirdo was funny, he also need a mirror so he realize he is even more weird than Donnie.

I liked this episode, it felt a little like the 2003 turtles with the introduction of Hun. The comments between Donny and Fishface was comical.
Good episode all of the action was well done. :D
It's good to see them move back into the lair.

Especially since I was really happy about the inclusion of The Mighty Mutanimals from last week, this was a really good episode. Hun was introduced very well and I already like him more than the 2003 version. Admittedly, I didn't watch the 2003 cartoon, but I like that he wasn't a huge tank-like man.
This was a great episode for Casey. He had a lot of dialogue that reminded me of Raph's lines from the first two movies and TMNT: "Doing what you should be. Helping the city. Stopping crime.", "Evil never takes down time!", and "I don't need you guys." I thought that was all pretty neat.
I thought it was cool that Shredder referred to all of the different crime factions that he already has the allegiances of to the gangster Don Vizioso. Russian Mob (Steranko). Asian Gangs (Hun). South Americans (Xever). Pretty cool to me and it reminded me of the Dark Legion factions or the Sub-Bosses from the Archie Sonic the Hedgehog Comics for some reason.
And "Never tell Crognard the odds!", was a very Star Wars thing to do huh? It's funny we introduce Hun into this series while they basically use a Han Star Wars quote all in the same episode.
I loved when the music kicked on and Casey delivered, "The class is pain 101, your instructor is Casey Jones." Very awesome and historic line. The location for the Shredder vs. Casey fight really reminded me of the area in The Dark Knight Rises where Batman and Bane first fought.
I also really liked that Raph and Tiger Claw were fighting one-on-one this time! I could see the foreshadowing of Dark Raph through Tiger Claw's quote, "You need to control your anger!" which I thought was cool coming from Tiger Claw. With the added information of Shredder's mind control formula, it seems only a matter of time until Dark Raph emerges.

Yeah, Mikey, there really should be limits to what you're willing to eat. And no, you won't regret it in the morning, you'll regret it right now. Have fun in the bathroom for the next hour or two.

I did sort of wonder if that Mikey eating the rotten food was a reference to the 2K3 episode in season 1 when they returned to lair and Mikey drank spoiled milk.
Mikey does seem to eat a lot of disgusting food, the pizza he made in Pizza face, the pizza he ate that come from the dumpster and a pizza slice with dead bugs on it from under his bed.

Good episode but very stupid of Casey to think he could beat them.
Hun is ok. Kinda stereotypical but fits I guess.
Mikey is just awful in this series. Had to say it. Not just for eating rotten food. They really went out of the way to make him the overly-silly-guy that alot of cartoons do today. He didn't seem so much in season 1.

Speaking of votes, did Machias intend to put "Shredder's motorcycle provided by Orange County Choppers... " as part of the vote options, but unintentionally put it in the vote question instead?
I noticed she did that for the past episodes too.

Actually I have to agree with this. A teasing smirk is one thing, but it did feel excessive - Mean is just the right word (One of them could have at least tried to apologise when he stormed off)
I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt that way. I started to think I was overreacting.
I agree with what you said. I think what surprised/irked me the most was that they just let Casey go. No apology or saying they're were just joking. They know Casey is serious about fighting crime, and after all they've been through together their reaction just feels like a kick in the gut.
In a way I especially expected better from Leo.

Another solid episode. I really enjoy seeing Casey take the lead in an episode and his little diary entries.
A bit dissapointed by the McGuffin that was the cheese formula but it worked so i'll let it go.
The gang references were interesting to see - I like seeing Shredder consolidating his forces. Much like in IDW with the savate et al.

It was kinda painful watching Casey get his butt handed to him 90% of the episode, but he did get a good shot in on Shredder with the taser. Shredder is weak against electricity with all that metal on him!
I know Shredder on the bike is lame, but how else do you expect to get around all those killer potholes the Kraang left?!
Mmm, radioactive glowing molten cheese-like product...
How does Donnie know it's mind-control juice by looking at it? (same way 2k3 Don knew that alien floor-wax and mud were a volatile combination) Well, obviously, he looked at it through the microscope, and every molecule is engraved with "CONSUME" "OBEY" and "SHREDDER FOR PREZ". Given Donnie's chemical expertise, I don't think it's a stretch to say he'd recognize some compounds on sight and know what their applications would be as far as mind-altering drugs.
I will be kind of miffed if it's a "one shot and you're forever controlled" deal. I can picture Raph mentally fighting against it... though I'd also like to see him "teaming up" with kindred spirit Xever while he's under its influence. Might be Xever's chance to get out from under Shredder's thumb... he's not in a very satisfying position these days, with Rahzar pulling rank on him.
Also, man, were those some heavy freakin' chemicals! ... or just a lead-lined box, maybe?
And they really packed this ep full of characters! Jeez!

And man oh man, he's Bruce Lee in animated form, how amazing is that!! Kudos to the animators, he's hot too. :evilgrin:Did anyone notice if they saw Mutagen Man in Donnie's Lab, I couldn't tell due to the bad quality stream.
Also does anyone know who voiced the italian mafia fat guy, he sounded really famililar.

That whole Shredder on the motorcycle thing..... Now it hit me. As a crimeboss Shredder should have had a limo or some kind of pimpin ride instead, driven by one of the Foot... and then have the others surrounding it on their bikes for protection.
I belive Shredder has a motorcycle just to please toystores... :)
But it was a good episode. It should have been more like this in the first seasons, and then bring in more science fiction. I just hope Shredder will not get overused now when the Kraang are gone.

Ok guys I going to be defending Mikey again as people are complaing about him in this episode but not when he was eating the rotten food because that was disgusting.
But I really hope people read this, this will change your minds over Mikey.
Mikey's behaviour in this episode was due to eating the Cheese balls and he became really hyper. Why? because of Red Dye 42 was in them. Red Dye 42 is mentioned in the episode and it was on the Cheeseball package too.
Red Dye 42 is actually a reference to Red Dye 40, it's a food colouring. Apparently it's mentioned a lot in health news sites they say Red Dye 40 causes health problems and cause hyperactivity in kids especially kids with ADHD and experts want FDA to ban foods containing them.
So thats why Mikey was acting so hyper in the episode because of the Red Dye in the Cheesballs and I applaud the writers for doing there homework on this.
Just put Red Dye 40 (and link it with ADHD) in the search engine you come up with results.

Huh. Pretty good analysis, though hate to nitpick but Mikey ate the nasty pizza BEFORE he started eating those cheese puffs, so that was still the writers fitting in another overused gross joke.
Stating that, it kind of irks me that we've had about 4 or 5 gross jokes (including the P.Shake and the Pizza Face moments), which means we'll never get one of my favorite 90's movie moments:
MIKEY: Well?
DONNIE: Question.
MIKEY: *sigh* YEAH?
DONNIE: Do you like PENICILLIN on your pizza?
(Mikey grabs heart in dramatic fashion, then salutes pizza box while Donnie and Mikey hum taps and lay the pizza to rest)
I'm sure we'll get the penicillin ref eventually, but Mikey would still eat it since he seems to have no functioning taste buds.

Well since Penicillin is created from mold cultures, it could have happened this episode.
Mikey: Hey Donnie, is it alright to eat pizza if it's growing green and blue furry stuff?
Donnie: (Sarcastically) Sure...If you like penicillin on your pizza?
Mikey shrugs and snarfs down the moldy slice of pizza while his brothers look on in disgust.
Raph: Seriously, are you part garbage disposal?!
It may be overused, but the gross gags are still fun.
Mikey eating the Uber gross pizza was the grossest yet. Love it !
Interesting use of Bruce Lee as Hun. The look works for me, and the way he moves is good and old school. I hope they don't mutate him, keeping the character as he is here.
Overall, I enjoyed the show, and laughed out loud twice. Best gag in the show was the "enormous pecks" one.

That's one thing that's actually bothering me a bit. Timothy is just a loose end right now. I would prefer that they just demutate him so he can be written out, or make Mutagen man a kind of ally during the time he's waiting to be cured. (I'm actually hoping for the latter)
I'm not really fond of Timothy, but he and his role as Mutagen Man always meant character growth and development for Donatello.
It's true the other turtles don't really care, but Donatello does care for him. He'll keep his word. It's just that Karai and Splinter are higher on the priority list.

You do have a good point. But I guess at this stage Donnie is out of retro-mutagen again. One vial was destroyed during "the pig and the rhino" (I think) and the other was used on Karai. It probably was all used up. And at that time he couldn't use it on Timothy anyway because they weren't in the lair.
But the longer it takes, the less excuses there are, and the more Timothy's storyline feels like a loose end.

Penicillin? With all the crap he's willing to eat, they maybe need to do a different version of that joke, because in this case it would probably benefit him to consume it now and then. lol

Actually Red 4 is the red dyes we have in food, and it comes from the female Dactylopius coccus
Dactylopius coccus was first used as red dye by Aztecs and Mexican Indians for centuries before the arrival of the Spaniards. To acquire the dye cochineal insects would be collected, briefly immerse them in hot water to kill them and dissolve the females waxy coating. The dead bugs would be set to dry them in the sun and then be ground to a fine powder.
The Spaniards saw potential in it so dead bugs became one of the chief imports from the new world.
And while we are on the subject of bugs, Jelly beans and other hard-coated, shiny candies (with the exception of M&M's) are shiny because they are covered in shellac which is recognized as safe for human consumption by the FDA. However not many people know that shellac is actually created from bug fecal matter.
Red #40 is actually a bug free alternative dye and it's derived from coal.

Has Ciro ever said who his favorite Turtle is? Judging on just the amount of screen time/character development, my money's on Donnie.
He said in an interview he likes all of them and they are like his teenagers but he grew up liking Donatello as a kid.
By the way, loved this episode. My only complaint is about Mikey. I really believed he was going to be more mature after those struggles and ordeals they had faced but he's still like a fat kid sometimes who likes being loud. His personality is twisted, to me, at least.
And they guys laughing at Casey... that was bit harsh. I just felt the pain and shame in my heart instead of Casey. I thought they will be more understanding. But yeah, who should be to blame? They are teenagers.

I like Hun's new look. Somewhat cliche, but it emphasizes the character's skills rather than his brute strength. It does seem like this episode really shoehorned a lot of big moments into one sitting. We are introduced to Hun without any background regarding the state of the Purple Dragons and how he came to earn Shredder's favor.
I liked the Casey-centric focus of how street crime flourished in the aftermath of the Kraang plot, but I didn't expect the Turtles to have their grand rematch with the Shredder so soon. The mind control chemical does seem an interesting angle in Shredder's plot, definitely something akin to what he would have tried in the Fred Wolf cartoon.

That's true and his non weapon and skill like fighting style alone makes him a good antithesis since Casey's relies on brute strength in combination with using home made weapons.
I almost wish that would be something more to the rivalry like shared personal history as it was does in other universes like Hun being Casey's abusive father or killing his father in the 2k3. Maybe it will grow into something more personal since in this version it's a first chance encounter.
Kinda like Joker and Batman.

Decent episode, but I just have to give props to this show once again, because I have been an avid disliker of Casey jones in every past tmnt incarnation, but this one is fantastic, and I thoroughly enjoy episodes based around him. His design, voice, attitude and fighting scenes are fantastic.
Felt kind of rushed. Everything happened so quickly and just felt like they tried to fit a little too much. But the action scenes were great. Casey vs rahzar and fishface was great, and then against shredder, which I think was handled incredibly. Casey is obviously no match, and there's all this build up with the scene, and then in an instant shredder has Casey basically done for. This Casey having more than just a couple wooden bats landed a shot or two, but still ended up getting kicked around. Exactly how I think it should be.

The only thing that bothered me about Hun was that he sometimes looked oddly rubbery when walking (although I was watching it at midnight, so maybe that's just me).
It was a little odd how Casey suddenly seemed so fed-up with the turtles. Usually April is the one who gets on their shells about not doing enough to protect the city, or putting their own interests first, and Casey just kind of goes with the flow. Maybe knowing that the Kraang probably mutated his family at some point brought out a previously hidden protective side?
I was really surprised, and a little bummed, that the turtles returned to their own lair. I figured it'd be so compromised that they would only go back to gather a few personal items, and then they'd settle somewhere else. It also got me wondering where they'd find an outlit to plug in a fridge in the sewer. Either Donnie wired it so that they could keep their algae cold, or that's where some of the subway system components kick in.
The fight scenes just seem to get continually better with each episode. I particularly enjoyed watching Mikey and his organized chaos style of martial arts.

- not one but TWO nut shots; was not expecting to see that :tlol:
- Hun's design grew on me
- Seth's Leo voice has vastly improved
- Auman Chemicals, NY = homage to Brandon Auman (the show's main writer); thought that was cool
- I sort of got a 2K3 Turtles Season 1 vibe from this episode; probably has something to do with the Kraang being out of the picture

Although with Splinter being formerly human it makes me wonder about his willingness to survive on such a diet and not trying to scavenge for at least some amount of "normal" food. In response to the Turtles laughing at Casey, I understand why they did. Casey acted like he was tough and that he could handle things on his own, and the Turtles laughing at him was their way of saying, "No, you can't do this on your own." Even when Raph told him he didn't stand a chance against Shredder, Casey ignored him and went to fight him anyway because he was being stupid. So, the Turtles laughing at him wasn't harsh at all because Casey boasted that he was doing what they wouldn't do and yet he got defeated.
And as for Mikey eating gross stuff, I hate it, and he should know better with how long that food's been in the refrigerator.

Gain access to world outside of home, turn into food snobs. lol
Although with Splinter being formerly human it makes me wonder about his willingness to survive on such a diet and not trying to scavenge for at least some amount of "normal" food. (Edit: Although if they really only ever had worms and algae for that long, it makes me question the full kitchen set up and the versatility of those ingredients.)
Well according to Cero that's how they got their vitamins through algae since they lived underground. But since Mikey was the one who was the in house chef of the family, maybe that was the only thing he could make that was considered edible.
As Raph said "I used to think there was nothing better the worms and algae...

That must be some good algae if has so much many different types of vitamins in them.
Maybe they go out to certain sewers to get some snails?

And other areas to cultivate mushrooms. I can certainly see Splinter going out foraging for food and supplies (maybe taking stuff from food banks) when his sons are real young, but stopped doing so because it was becoming too risky.

Yeah but not all mushrooms are edible, unless you like acid trips and bowel movements.

Casey did mention his family before they left New York at the end of season 2, and he assumed they got mutated by the Kraang. Assuming they are still around now, it is possible Hun could get revenge through them. Or... maybe even Kirby O'Neil.

That's true, but if you know which ones you are looking for then you can tell the difference between what is edible and what isn't. For example shitaki mushrooms are used frequently in Japanese and Chinese cuisine, it also has medicinal uses as well. And those that can be cultivated.

Is it me, or has the CGI improved since the last episode? Particularly the facial animations. Hun's face looked awesome.

As a Bruce Lee fan i'm kinda disappointed they modeled Hun against him since he will be one of the bad guys in the show. But at least he didnt become a mutant of the week
I'm a Bruce Lee fan, and it's not really disapointing me. Bruce has played a bad guy at least once before. He's also had roles when he was younger playing a thug.

Precisely my point. I still don't like the younger versions of April and Casey for the Nick show. To me the character of Casey Jones is darker, more bad ass and its just hard to pull that off when he's more kid than adult.

I think his character from the original comics was meant to poke fun at the vigilante type genre but at the same time there was some brutal deconstruction that makes you feel sorry for him.

Yeah, no kidding. Many are so toxic that even a single cap can kill you, or even just make you severely ill and cause other health problems. I've actually cooked wild mushrooms, so I know how dangerous it can be to pick the wrong ones. Which is why I've always stuck to puffballs, since they are easy to identify, and are completely safe. (And delicious! Like eating soft bread!)

I think the point there was that they probably wouldn't know which ones were safe. Seriously, speaking from experience, there are so many dangerous mushrooms that look almost identical to edible ones, and unless you are REALLY certain of what you've got, some of them you don't even want to TOUCH! Problem is, you might not even realize which is which until it's too late. As for those that grow in a sewer..... I wouldn't even want to TRY. Nothing GOOD is going to come of that, trust me. (I collect wild puffballs when I can get them, but even I won't touch them if they grow in or too close to manure... Too many microbes that could be accidentally ingested.)

Haven't read through this entire thread so if anyone already called it, ignore me. Anyway, pretty sure the mind-controlling doodad the Shredder's playing with is going to be used on Leo.
Anything that has to do with 'brain-washing' and 'Shredder' just reminds me of that one part in the IDW series. When Leo goes all dark :x

The brainwashing plot line is actually going to be loosely based off the City Fall story line. Except it's going to have Raph instead of Leo.

Please someone recap us on the source(s) of the dark Raph thing? If I recall someone heard something somewhere... but then that seems to have been all there was to it. (Unless I'm forgetting something.) So, hate to say it, but I've been a little iffy on if it's really happening or not. (Don't get me wrong, I do hope it happens and hope that it's Raph, or to a lesser extent Donnie.)
senpai
03-25-2015, 08:10 PM
I hope it's Raph too. After the whole injured Leo dealio, another turtle needs some attention. But dark Donnie might be a little strange. This is just me, lol, but I can see Mikey going dark before Donnie.

03-25-2015, 08:27 PM
Yeah, I'd rather it not be Leo, he's taken his hits, I'm ok with him not getting any for a bit (I hate seeing him harmed anyhow) and Raph does need a good story centered on him. Maybe he does have something big coming and is why he simply hasn't gotten much for a while?
Mikey... The only kind of dark I can imagine Mikey being is like Dave the beaver... some pathologically happy, twisted sort of psychotic. Mikey's sunshiny happiness could almost be like a super power, no true evil from Shredder or whoever should ever defeat it.

I think that's why I can see him being so scary if he was brain-washed. The cute and innocent Michelangelo becomes lost in darkness and his kusarigama has a craving for TURTLE BLOOD!

All in all, I felt this episode was totally contrived. when I heard the title 'Casey Jones Vs The Underworld' and found out it would focus on Hun and the Purple Dragons, I was hoping for better.
I certainly wan't hoping for 'Casey is pissed at sitting out the last episode and becomes and idiot taking insane risks'.
I thought that if Casey was taking on the underworld solo that he'd have developed as a character enough for it to be a better reason than a childish temper tantrum or hurt pride. Like, Hey! Remember at the end of season 2 when they made a point of him trying to find his family? Tie this to that and voila! Much more palatable.
All that said, I liked Hun. I've been a massive Bruce Lee fan since as long as I can remember, and this must be only the second time something has been a deliberate tribute to him that hasn't had me rolling my eyes in disgust (the other being Street Fighter's Fei Long).

Well it was fun seeing Casey getting his arse handed to him at the beginning, but really this is not the Casey Jones Show and I'm getting irritated at the main characters continually being edged out of the way to showcase his schick.

I don't get the "only main characters all the time" attitude, really. I bet if April had an ep excluxively to herself, you'd kvetch about that too.

I can't help but wonder what it'd be like seeing an episode where none of the Turtles appear. Now that'd be a first!

No, but then April has a distinct role of her own. When Casey is around, it's almost like they keep a few lines they would have given to Mike or Raph and give them to him instead.
Honestly, I don't think he adds anything. That's the difference between him and April.

This scene had the odd effect of giving me a terrible craving for spaghetti (although I'd rather have butter and cheese on mine) while simultaneously grossing me out. It also reminded me of that scene in Return of the King when Denethor is eating possibly the goriest meal I've ever seen.

I thought this one was a great episode. Finally able to post again after weeks of Internet problems. It sucked being able to get online for only a few minutes at a time. Anyway, I liked our little glimpse into the criminal underworld. Cool to see Shredder attempting to consolidate his power. As for him riding a motorcycle, I guess it must have been a visual thing because I was actually okay with it. I need to ask my better half what she thought of it. The mob boss slurping up spaghetti was a bit disgusting. Reminded me of playing with my old Worm action figure way back in the day. Munchy mouth worms and all that. I'm not saying I think he'll mutate into Worm but couldn't help flashing back. I'm hoping we see more NYC gang stuff later on. I love episodes like this. Hun impressed me so I look forward to seeing more of him. The dark Raph stuff ought to be a blast too. Hurry up already, April 26th! Oh yeah, Mikey chowing down on roach infested food was just wrong. You guys know how I feel about cockroaches. Yeesh.

Shredder is voiced by the same guy who voices Principal Lewis from American Dad, and Bebop is voiced by the same guy who voiced Lewis' Prison Wife from American Dad. :P
