Reimage Venus de Milo!

Yes, I'm opening a giant can of radioactive worms. How would you integrate a female mutant turtle into the TMNT universe? So far, I think Sophie Campbell has done it best. For one thing, naming the Turtle Artemisia (an artist) instead of Venus de milo (an objet d'art) was a huge improvement.

For myself, I would do it as follows:

In the future, possibly in the timeframe of Mirage Volume 4, Donatello has been troubled by the looming reality that once he and his three brothers have died, there will be no genetic legacy to pass on. So using Utrom technology, and possibly with some help from Leatherhead or Glurin, Donatello creates a young female mutant turtle using his own DNA. Adopting her as his daughter, he names her "Venus de Milo."

What do you think? How would you do it?

I'd personally do what Sophie did, have her look like the Turtles, maybe add female turtle attributes, like being bigger then the boys. No shell boobs or hair. Give her an interesting weapon like Artie having a bow, Kyujutsu is amazing to look at. Or a Tessen, those are really intriguing and looks really fancy. And she needs a artists name, not the name of an art object.

At the very least that show could have said she was one lone hatchling simply put with the boys, keeping their agenda intact without having to bring the unnecessary "not brothers" nonsense into it.

Better yet... She's another turtle they cross paths with eventually, but who did not start out with or mutate with them. Maybe she was a lab animal, or maybe enemies experimented with trying to mutate their own turtle to try to combat the boys and she was either lost, or better yet, purposely escaped, defecting from their ranks as she knew they were evil. Maybe she does not live locally, but becomes an ally and contact who occasionally aids them. Has a real signature weapon, not mystical powers; gear is noticeably different in style (cool style please, not a style that shouts "girl"), perhaps no mask at all. Maybe she'd even tease the guys about wearing them.

didn't take this thread long to get swarmed with haters. Very surprised auto isn't in here spewing hate and randomly calling me out when i've never once mentioned him by name until this point. Did he get banned or something? Not trying to start a flamewar or anything

But on the topic at hand i think she's fine the way she is. The one thing i'd correct is also part of her charm, which is the occasional speech blunder but throughout The Next Mutation she grew with the team and started to catch on so that one figured itself out.

Agreed, Artie is a well-conceived character that actually brings and adds to the team instead of just being 'the girl one'. She's shy and sensitive and a bit motherly, which are all really cute and endearing traits. And she doesn't have 'the girl one' syndrome, where boobs, long hair, eyelashes and bows are lazily slapped onto a design to show where the girl one is. Plus, she's yellow. #^.^#

I always felt like another cool way to introduce a female turtle would be to have a white-masked one. (We have the currently-established giant, tanky Slash with the black mask. It's be cool if there was an equally badass agile, graceful female turtle in a white mask.)

The Next Mutation was pretty bad (most would agree on that), but I think the character could be an awesome addition if handled/written properly. I'd like to see her in IDW and/or Nick. I love IDW/Nick and think they've handled (almost) all of the characters really well so far.

Much as I don't like giving spoilers about my writing, I'll give this one away for the sake of this thread. I'm using the "four females appear" trope as well. The EPF, in attempting to catch the Turtles, who keep eluding them, manage to get brain scans of them as the turtles are infiltrating one of their facilities. These scans reveal exactly what each turtle would like most in a mate (except Mikey's goes wrong, because he's wearing a tinfoil hat at the time) and the EPF sets about creating four sirens to lure the turtles ony by one into a trap. Among these are Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo.

Venus, in this incarnation, is a total hateable pain in the butt, who drives Leo up the wall because he's already in a somewhat-functional relationship with Karai.

I haven't hashed out too much of her character design, but I'm figuring none of this shinobi nonsense... she'll be Venus more or less in name and turtality alone. Short platinum-blonde hair, an impressive gymnast, and the unofficial leader of the four Lorelai.

But she's imperfect, not like the turtles. She's slow-witted. She's less in control of her "human" emotions. She's naive. She isn't able to be spry or agile the way a ninja turtle should be. Shredder uses physical punishment to force her to be like the turtles, but that does nothing but worsen her state.

The turtles save her or something and name her Venus de Milo and care for her like she's a sister, even though she isn't as truly sapient as they and Splinter are. She lives with them.

Not as yet; as the second 'book' in my Of Hearts and Shells series, it may take me a bit. I hope to start releasing chapters soon. (But, speaking of 5th turtles, part 1, 50 Shades of Green, is all about Apriturtle. *l* Yes, I managed to turn her into a turtle.) ...and a nymphomaniac. ;)

This is soooo easy- take her back to her intended roots! a female mutant turtle, with no connection to the boys, raised my the Chinese Shoalin mystic, Chun-e. Make her a shaolin monk, that more fits her character. No shell boobs, no beating the turtles by herself, no shinobi B.S. Simple as that!
