Hah. What.

I'd say "Please be false", but this is one case where I'm actively rooting for a worst-case scenario. I want this thing to fail so hard nobody ever makes a TMNT movie again.

For this plan to work, every single thing needs to be as terrible as possible. So far, great start.

Hey... more like, "TMNT: Half-ASS", am I RIGHT?!

Had to.

Hey... more like, "TMNT: Half-ASS", am I RIGHT?!

Took the words out of my mouth.

If they don't at least come up with a semi impressive title by this time next year, they need to drop out of the business. At that point film making is just too hard for them.

Aww, y'beat me to it.

For a brief fleeting moment, I was excited.

Then I read the title.

Now I hate Michael Bay just a little bit more.

From here (http://www.shockya.com/news/2015/03/27/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-2-gets-a-new-title/).
That's gotta be a working title. Usually when they film movies, They have a working title that has nothing to do, with the actual name of the film, Its usually to hide the fact, That they are filming the movie.

Galactus
03-27-2015, 01:23 PM
Aren't working titles to disguise the movie so that info doesn't leak and so on? Like The Blue Door, it referred to something in the script but if you hadn't read the script no one would know but "Half Shell" doesn't exactly disguise anything especially when you've got people blurting it out in interviews.

I love how the interviewer doesn't hide how bad it sounds.

Oh, yeah, that's a title that's gonna fool everybody. "'Half-Shell'... huh... must be a movie about oysters..."

It could very well be a working title, but that's not the reason; it'd be because they just don't have a real title yet.

What's their excuse this time... create drama because even bad attention is attention? lol

Like you I figure it's a working title, I can't see them not trying to come up with something more impressive and probably just haven't given the title much thought this soon. Which is reasonably understandable really. Though I assume it's just a place holder rather than hiding it since it's still an obvious name.

Vicky82
03-27-2015, 03:11 PM
It's most likely a working title or a code name used for the filming crew.

I expect they don't want to draw too much attention if they used the full name as they probably want to film some important scenes in secret or Just don't want huge crowds gathering near them and maybe don't want anything getting leaked onto the internet like photos, videos ect.

But obviously stuff will get leaked soon enough and end up here and then we get the messages that Paramount want them removed. :P

I expect there will be a lot of rumours on different title names, in the next few months.

That is correct, They often have a working title, that doesn't make a reference to the actual movie, But Half-Shell is pretty much a reference no matter what.

And usually when the word gets out of a film's working title, They know the movie is filming, So they can't hide it no longer.

We can expect more behind the scenes photos and videos, of any of the filming going on in the next couple of days or weeks.

The wave of idiocy Bay and Lebiesman emanate is powerful stuff.

How the hell do you get more lame-ass than TMNT: Half-Shell? Are they "too cool" for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2?

I have never wanted to see a film fail so much, let alone a TMNT one. I want this awful studio to eagerly pour hundreds of millions of money into this abomination only to see it fail at the box office. I want them to realize in horror that you can only shovel so much garbage into the audiences' face before they stop buying tickets, and understand too late that they should have hired someone remotely competent in the first place.

Of course that won't happen though. It'll be another box office success and they'll make a 3rd and a 4th because people love to be shoveled garbage. Just look at Transformers. :(

Got a tip something called Half Shell is filming in NYC, anyone know if this is the new TMNT movie?

No reason to permanently decide this soon to call it "More Turtles This Time" when after editing it turns into "April Movie 2".

I lol'ed.

This is bay's trademark. It's exactly what he did with TF3. Instead of "dark side of the moon" he went with "Dark of the moon" if you recall.

Why? Because TMNT is better when it's about Vern, car chases and the NBA.

With how vocal we were when we heard the Shredder will be played by a Caucasian, I feel that we do have a voice. From the whole alien idea to the leaked script (depending if you even believed in it), maybe we are more vocal than we think. I just feel that we should let Viacom or whoever know how we feel about this new reboot. I know it sounds pointless and this is Hollywood we're talking about but I feel that if we can have some impact on what's acceptable and what's not, maybe we can get something more suitable. It's unlikely but who knows.

Space Jam had numerous people playing themselves. Mike Tyson played himself in the Hangover. Buzz Aldrin played himself in Transformers 3.

Hmm. But Space Jam is more of a cartoon than a live action film, and the other two were just cameos.

I guess there are other examples as well, like Tom Hanks in The Simpsons Movie. But again that's a cartoon.

Let's hope it's the working title but then one of the main purposes for that kind of thing is to keep things under wraps. As it's been pointed out a title like that doesn't disguise anything.

If indeed it is a working I'd make sure people like JJ Redick doesn't blurt out erroneous information like that in interviews because stuff like that can catch on very quickly. It's exactly what happened with the 2014 movie where we a complete information blackout except for stuff that intentionally leaked like the Blue Door script, the photo of children's costume all giving poor first impressions of what the movie would be.

Sadly most of this stuff ended up accurate.:(

also the NBA thing is vern with his gf sitting at an nba game & those players just happen to be playing.. that's it! they are not acting, its going to be a short scene.. stop flipping out over tiny **** like this.

Well some of them have lines and it certainly it doesn't sound like a short scene.

As I've said before this is a very un-TMNT kind of setting which is exactly the kind of thing the last movie was filled with and ended up being the kind of stuff that even the people who liked it wanted to see less of in the sequel.

Also with a rumored budget of a paltry 70 million then you wonder why they are wasting money on this.

you guys keep hating but will go watch it in the cinemas anyways just like you did for the 1st movie. lol

I think defenders of this movie series should be very careful with those kinds of comments.

Fans of Bay's Tranformers series can get away with comments like that because those movies make billions.

TMNT 2014 made substantially less than The Amazing Spider-Man 2 which was seen as a failure enough to cancel that movie series. I do think we're reaching a tipping point on the idea that "they'll go see it even if they hate it" more people will be willing to stream it, more people will be willing to stick to their guns and not see it at all if they are not careful.

Also with a rumored budget of a paltry 70 million then you wonder that they are wasting money on this.

Is that the entire budget? I've heard that number repeated a few times on here, but I haven't read any reports about it personally, so I've got no idea.

If that's true, then the budget for the sequel would be basically slashed in half from the first's. That seems kind of insane.

While something like an NBA game is outside the norm for a TMNT movie and sounds absurd as the first bit of info we hear, what disappoints me is knowing they probably won't take these normal real life settings as an opportunity to treat these characters like people. I doubt most of them in charge can even wrap their minds around that concept.

Sure, the Turtles are a bit different than the average New Yorker, but if they're trying to make them fit the real world then it would help if they recognized that the guys would still have other aspects of their lives that are separate from just fighting the bad guys. (Film makers read: the down time people have asked for - for the Turtles, not Vern.) They aren't just weird "talking animals" who go home and sit in the dark until the next bad guy does something terrible. They're people who probably go home after a long night and grab some dinner and crash in front of the tv for a bit before going to bed.

Chances are high that, like many other people in the city, some or all of the Turtles might be fans of the local teams. What the Turtles might not give - other than blowing their cover - to have the option of attending one of those fabled super bowl parties with other fans. Why not tap into that? (Not necessarily those topics or spend too much time on it than a film can fit, but that perspective at least.) If they're trying to make them real to the viewer, simple things that are that relateable would go a long way. If they ever mange to do it I'll be pleasantly shocked.

Should be added I guess that their bedroom in particular being so full of their posters and other stuff helps that, I assume, but then of course in the actual film it was barely there.

That can't be the budget. $70 million won't cover the catering on most of these types of flicks nowadays. That had to have been misreported or misquoted.

If it's accurate though... Haha, nice. If it openly looks like crap, people won't be razzle-dazzled into defending it.

Doubt it, though. Way too much CGI (we're talking 7-8 characters, at least, that will be all or heavily CGI) for that low a number. I do remember reading "TMNT 2" and "$70 million" in the same place, but I can't remember where, and I doubt it was referring to the entire budget. That seems crazy low.

I doubt that's the full production budget but if $70 million is then PD really doesn't give a crap about making anything decent. They're just trying to increase their bottom line.

Why should they waste money on this? The first one proved you don't need to put any thought into a TMNT movie to have people show up.

I'd actually like to see something like that, where they are sneaking in to watch a game, and Vern just happens to be there. Or maybe April is doing an interview at the game, and Vern's there, and something happens while they are doing the interview that gets the turtles involved. Any of these things could happen, and all of them would make sense.

There's a few articles which claim that they will spend an estimated 63 million out of a budget of 70 million while shooting in New York.

It does sound unlikely that this is the whole budget. I would guess that's just for shooting and there will be more for cgi and the like.

That being said I don't think the budget will be significantly more than the last. I have a suspicion that it might be the same or less. I know Liebesman was banking on the cgi being cheaper to do in the sequel now that they had the models for the turtles, Splinter and Shredder and Dave Green is apparently good for working on big visuals on a small budget. Who knows maybe 70 mill is a more accurate figure than we may believe.

A live NBA game would be the most risky place ever for them to "hide" - bright lights and cameras everywhere. Then again, they didn't care much about being stealthy in the first movie, so. :trazz:

Yeah, it makes me wonder a little if Paramount was concerned that ticket sales might be a little underwhelming, so they encouraged people to see it through free tickets on Crush soda or wherever.

Say what you will about this film, they did a good job plastering the turtles across every Crush soda they could.

Eh, not if they went "Gargoyle style", and hid in the rafters or under stands or something. Most arenas have plenty of places one could hide in to watch without anyone seeing you. Though it would be funny if they just disguised themselves like in the "Fallen Angel" episode of 2K3 at the Purple Dragons initiation fight. Then they could hide right in the middle of the crowd, and no one would notice! (Stretching it, I know, given their size, but.... I'm going for the "ironic" factor here. Run with it, LOL!)

I played around with this (in spoiler) once. Note, using only a rough estimate of the supposed height of a human head (via info I tried to look up online) and does not factor in if Megan Fox was wearing shoes with much height in the heel (can't recall).

Really when I was tinkering with that pic in Photoshop (using that image and Leo since he's standing fully upright with Megan Fox right in front of him - Raph and Mikey seem slightly bent over and felt Donnie was too far away to judge well enough) I was surprised it came out roughly 6'3" for Leo. Their mass makes them appear so much larger. (Not that being over 6' isn't tall, esp for them.)

I can deal with the fact that they're tall this go around - mostly by just pretending the movie lied about their age and they turned out taller than expected as adults - but I wish they would not have shot them up with steroids.

I posit the theory that the term "butthurt" in conjunction with this movie is like Godwin's Law - it inevitably gets fired at anyone with a differing opinion and as such, is now so tired and overused that it has completely lost all meaning. It seems to be the go-to response for people who just can't come up with a calm and reasoned response and as such, anyone who uses it instantly loses all credibility.

I propose a ban on the use of the word "butthurt", and suggest coming up with a new term we can ride into the dirt - just for a change of pace. Something like rectal-cramped or anal-pained, perhaps. :tlol:

Ding ding ding.

It's a cheap dismissal - insulting the person instead of their argument. If anyone actually has a point, or knows how to make it, they don't have to use it.

Beyond that, it's just comes down to different in tastes/opinions. If you've gotta get hostile and personal with someone because they don't share yours, how confident are you about it really?

Shell-cramped?

Bitsy83
03-29-2015, 05:13 PM
....wow, I really need to get to these threads earlier. Let's go back to the ORIGINAL topic, shall we?

Yes. Half-Shell is HOPEFULLY just a working title, but if not, let's just be grateful they didn't go with "Shell Shock." Or hopefully they won't consider that.

I am so torn with this movie, honestly. It's hard to to really argue with the negative posts because...well, I agree with them! Yeah, I felt the plot was handled poorly. Yeah, I wish April and Vern got less screen time. Yeah, I'd have toned down the muscle-size of the Turtles, including Raph. And, YES, I wish they didn't have to make it blatantly obvious that Donnie was a NERD by giving him glasses, decked out totally in tech gear, and give him a retainer (Though I have a head cannon that he didn't really need the retainer; it was just part of an experiment he was performing to see if human dental tools work the same on a mutated terrapin.) And that's not even half of my list of complaints!

Do I hate Bay with a burning passion? Hell yes.

Do I wish he was banned from Hollywood? More than you realize.

Do I want him to be hogtied, doused in gasoline, stuffed into the trunk of one of his hot rods, then set the car on fire while pushing it off a cliff all the while listening to Beethoven's 9th Symphony on my iPod?
....I wouldn't really want to do that, but if it happened, I wouldn't lose sleep.

I'm just going to accept these movies and like the stuff I like and ignore the stuff I don't. We'll just get a reboot in another 10 or so years and, hopefully, they'll be better than these were. If anything, they've made me appreciate the franchise more than before. Sort of like what "The Last Airbender" movie was so bad, it made me love the TV show and comics more than ever. Sometimes having something BAD makes you appreciate the past stuff more. Then, hopefully, the more we go back to the past stuff, the more we keep in mind how to make the future projects great. That's why I really like the Nick show; you can tell it was made by people who loved the old shows and comics, and yet they still have their own creative spin on it. Sure, it has flaws, but not like the movie.

So, whatever we get in 2016, I'll just shrug and say "Whatevs." I'd rather be pleasantly surprised than get my hopes up only to get them burning to the ground.

I wish he'd play a bad guy in it so the Turtles can smack him around. It's only fair for them.
I propose a ban on the use of the word "butthurt", and suggest coming up with a new term we can ride into the dirt - just for a change of pace. Something like rectal-cramped or anal-pained, perhaps. :tlol:
"Hiney owie." Make it childish and embarrassing and no one will want to use it. ;)

I want to nominate "half-shelled" as the new "butthurt". :tlol: As in "man, don't get all half-shelled about it - the movie will be great!"

I am not trolling I add to discussion on the toys/ nick cartoon and postive stuff about the movies. I am surprised Trollortreater hasn't been banned yet he adds nothing to topics and is just a whiny baby.

The irony is staggering.

So, is this movie already shaping up to be a worse train wreck than the first one?

I'm almost disappointed there were no absurd leaks today... lol I feel like it's just going to turn into a game of seeing how weird it can get.

Yep, the disappointment and sadness of not getting a great TMNT movie for the foreseeable future has passed.

I'm now sooooo so excited to see just how friggin' bad and ridiculous this thing is going to get.

The TMNT don't and never have ever had "half shell"s. They have full shells, with both carapace and plastron segments in place. It was a stupid line from a stupid song at the forefront of the Fred Wolf cartoon that morons sung to themselves for so long, they began to think it was true.

Now, as a title for a sequel to that last "film" that came out, one that's clearly poised to go "full retard" into all-out Bebop, Rocksteady and Technodrome nonsense? It's absolutely the title it deserves. I support it.

I look at these new movies as live action versions of a Platinum dunes universe Fred Wolf style with changes

That's the worst sub title I have ever seen for a movie, ever.
