I went to one yesterday. It was awful
The people I considered friends first just changed after a few beers.
The music sucked, my friends kept dancing like a bunch of idiots, and this one 14-15 year-old I don't even know felt the need to criticize me a few times.
Also, I hate beer.
What are your experiences with parties?
Whatswiththeheadbands?

I hate parties. I went to a few at school, and hated them.
When it came around to going to my school prom, I didn't go.
So yeah, never been a party person.

My first real party was last December after my prom. It was awful. The music sucked, everyone was drunk and the atmosphere was heavy and brought the scent of alcohol. I found out parties are not for me. Concerts are much better although I can't go very often cause I can't afford. Because I spend it on my martial arts equipment and training camp.

Forgot to mention one guy at the party (he's in my class too) won't stop touching me suggestively (he thinks it's funny) and now my other friends are doing it too and I swear to god I'm so sick of it but he won't stop.

You don't have to say how old you are if you don't want to, but are you in high school? This sounds like a high school party...

16th birthday party of a girl from my class.
I'm 16 too, and I'm allowed to drink (I hate it), however, a my friends (and other people there) weren't and drank so f*cking much.
(I consider 3 bottles of beer a lot since I only could stomach half a bottle).

You should probably just skip high school parties. No one in high school knows what the **** they're doing and it's just painful to watch. Start doing parties again when you're 21+. It's far more enjoyable.
I don't think I actually started enjoying anything party-like until I was about 18 and started going to convention parties where I could be nerdy and not have people think I was weird. Parties with a bunch of your *real* friends are a very different experience.

The best parties are Mario Parties
I'm very awkward in parties of that kind, I can't hear anything when there is loud music, I can't dace and don't want to dance, I rarely drink, and I can't stand beer.
Parties with a small close group is much much better.

I like to party, but I don't like going to actual parties. Getting loose with a few close friends on the railroad tracks, in a dingy basement, atop a building, down an alley, in the woods, that kinda thing, I always enjoyed that. There'd be 5-6 of us, & we'd be shooting the sh*t, having a laugh, not anything too ridiculous in scale. I hate big traditional parties, where there are mixed crowds with conflicting cliques, loud annoying commercial music, nothing but cheap ass beer, people screaming & expecting everyone to be a social butterfly, etc, that sucks. It's boring & awkward.

Don't sweat it too badly, when I was your age I had a bad party experience too. Myself and a partner at the time went and I was repeatedly harassed over being in a same-sex relationship at the time, which seemed completely alien to them. Teenagers are usually douches, plain and simple. While I'm not not with him anymore and have been married to my wife for a good long time, me and my ex often relay funny stories about how insecure those people were.

Was never into parties, never really went. Not at that age and now... I've got better things to do.
Hell, at this age I'm just hoping to avoid being talked into attending the 1st birthday "party" for my mom's friend's daughter's child. I mean, not to be mean, but the thought of being bored to tears listening to other people's mundane chatter and at least one young child scream half the time while they pretend their infant gives a crap that this is a birthday party... sounds torturous.

They're fun if they're with people I like. Although i need to get buzzed or drunk to actually have fun. And the parties I go to mostly involve chatting and hanging out with people whilst listening to music. I'm past the age of going to parties to get piss drunk and do stupid ****. here at university you see many young adults and kids out of HS doing embarrassing things in public because they drink themselves until puking.

I know the feeling, The music in these parties can be awful, I'm going to one tonight with the family, And no doubt, Its all Spanish music, Which I cannot stand. And I'm into Electronic Dance Music.

I realized that the main reason I like parties is because I host 90% of my own parties. Parties are awesome if you have complete control over everything and everyone attending. Lol

I don't like parties - I've got social anxiety so it's more stress than it's worth; it's either go and feel like crap all night, or go and drink to drown out my anxiety and then feel like crap the next day for not being able to function like a normal person.
I'd imagine teenage parties would have to be fairly rotten even if you're not socially anxious.
Parties were great when I was growing up. Lots of dancing and lots of chicks. The chips were always stale though, for some reason. I threw a party when I was 14 and it got real out of hand. Kids were trying to sneak in threw the windows and whatnot and people were throwing bottles outside and the cops were called by our neighbors. My mom was pissed but hey, it was a night to remember.
Then I got older and started partying in clubs, which is still fun. One time I was at Copacabana and some dude felt up my sister. I pushed him down some stairs when he walked past me. Good times. I haven't been in a while, though.

Everyone has their scene. I don't go to clubs because it's not my scene. Not into electronic/techno music and such. That's why I usually go to bars.

I dislike paying to simply enter a place. At bars I only actually pay for the drinks.

I went through a party phase in my late teens/early twenties. I never partied in high school. I was scared of alcohol lol!
I'm a very social person, but I'm sensitive about how people treat me, so if I go to a party and someone outwardly hurts my feelings, I'll still be nice to them but you can bet I'll never hang out with them again. A lot of party people are real douchebags. I don't have time for anymore of those in my life lol. I don't really "party" anymore. Party as in going off to college drink fests and going nuts. Scary stuff goes down sometimes, and you really have to watch yourself and your drinks. I ended up having to drop almost all of my 'friends' in my early twenties because people are so freakin shiesty. You live and learn, right? Sometimes the hard way. :\
The last time I really turned it up was about a month ago. And if I could take it back, I would. I got so sick ;-; I really can't hold liquor so I shouldn't even try. At least singing karaoke and being with good friends was nice. I get super depressed after I drink a lot of alcohol. And I didn't remember this until the last time I drank. It had literally been SO long since I last drank liquor. Something to keep in mind, kids: alcohol is a depressant.

I second that. Who needs cover charges? They charge you out the ash to get in, then AGAIN for the drinks. And unless you're into dancing and/or with friends, it usually sucks. I quit going to clubs a LONG time ago. And when you already have a mate/partner/whatever, half the motivation for going is already gone, anyway!

Oh, gawd. The clubs in my area are awful. And I hate the way most people dance. It's like...chicks rubbin their butts all over some dude's crotch. It's essentially dry humping, let's face it. Let's not do that in public, thanks. I'm also pretty sure I suck at dancing, but this one guy at a bar asked me to dance and it was so fun!

A friend of one of my friends goes to parties just to laugh at drunk people. I think it's pretty weird but not unfounded. Actually, that guy knows something. Once my friend was at a party and his mate got seriously drunk. He started to tell my friend he's (the mate) the only blood related daughter of his own father. Hope that makes sense. :D
On that night, another guys was carried away by an ambulance because he got seriously drunk. Next day, at 7am he woke up in the part of the city in a deserted area and they don't know how he got there. He doesn't remember anything. So yeah... parties can be like dangerous.

My voice is fairly soft and deep, so I have a hell of a time talking to people at parties. I have to repeat myself and talk a lot louder than I would normally, so I always go home with a horse voice and a sore throat. I don't drink either, so I feel there is a limit to how long I can hang around before everyone becomes too drunk to put up with.
I'm not much of a party goer. The majority of my friends are beer guzzlers when it comes to gatherings, and I don't drink or smoke. So, unless there's a PS3 involved or music making, I usually just stay home.

I used to get in a lot of fights at high school parties. I'm the type of person that if you put me in a room with 10 people, I may get along with 3. So 9 times out of 10 I prolly won't say sh*t to you. People with alcohol in their system to to get annoyed by that for some reason..whatever.

I love parties. Even when its not a party I throw myself, I'll always bring an extra $100 worth extra of different drinks and such to make sure everyones covered. I used to be pretty broke all the time and it'd suck when you'd run out just as a good buzz comes on, so I do my best to keep everyone covered(free of charge).
Going to a party has become a game to me. I go there and scout the place and try to figure out how to optimize the situation for anyone sitting awkwardly or quiet. Introduce yourself, offer a drink, ask them about themselves, get them laughing. Introduce them to other people in the party, then excuse yourself and do the same to someone else who doesn't look at ease.
Yes, the music will suck. Always. But you get used to it. Better yet, if you have a great time at a party you begin associating good memories with a lot of these ****** ass songs, so you grow to tolerate them more than you ever would.
I don't know you personally so parties just might not be your thing but I can honestly say in the last ten years I haven't failed getting someone to enjoy themselves at a party. Sometimes its worth getting outside your comfort bubble and mixing things up.

I honestly never have fun at parties. I always see things I don't wanna see; girls I respect getting sloppy drunk and sucking face with guys they can't stand... people I like and respect doing coke and sh*t... and nobody knows how to stop drinking before they make an idiot out of themselves.
I generally prefer small, intimate gatherings of no more than a few people. Some of the best "party" experiences I ever had, were a half dozen people sitting around a table, putting away a case of beer and bullsh*tting.

I don't think I've ever had to pay for anything at a club. If you do, you're absolutely doing it wrong. And I'm not saying you have to be a slut. But flirting and smiling and dancing with people kept me well taken care of when I was into that scene.
The most party I have had is me and s few friends reading comic books or manga, and playing video games.
But there was a lot of root beer and snacks, so 'twas fun. :)

Depends on your perspective. I always feel indebted to someone when they get me something no matter how small it may be. When guys ask me if they can buy me a drink I typically say no thank you because I don't want to lead them on.

I'm 16, kindly f*ck off.
I think Turtlefan is trying to look out for your best interests, Amaranthus. If 16 is the legal drinking age where you live then okay. 16 is still quite very young no matter where you live. I feel like sometimes the drinking age should be like 25 all across the world or something! (j/k) I've just seen some poor choices made and it's because people are so young and don't realize their mistakes. Also, drinking impairs their judgment so...there's that too. Anyway, let's be nice to each other! :D Especially when we're trying to look out for one another.

I drank half a beer and people criticized me for drinking so little.
Like, what the hell. I don't like it, the end.
I'm pretty sure lots of people don't, but peer pressure makes them do it.
They're pretty much training their body to stand it.

*shrug* if someone wants to buy me a drink that's their thing. I was always pretty up front that nothing was gonna happen. For that matter, as long as I was with them when they did it and never let said drink go unattended by me, it all worked out fine.
Did have a guy follow me around Vegas one time though. He was a creeper.

I understand. Don't worry about other people, Amaranthus. Do your own thing. I know this sounds really cliched but it's so true: life is way too short to be concerned with people that drag you down.

True. Honesty is the best policy ^^ And you got the right idea by never leaving your drink unattended.

I think a reason why I didn't like it is because I prefer hanging out with just my friends, sober.
Not with dancing, loud friends and other people who say "3 beers isn't much" even though it affected their behaviour a lot.

I've honestly never been to one of those huge parties. I don't think I'd like shouting to make myself heard in order to have a conversation if the music is too loud. I don't think I'd be a good designated driver either. Hey, I'd be sober though so I'd remember everything everyone did. My better half says she attended one or two some years back and was bored out of her mind. I'm guessing I'd probably feel the same way. We do the small gathering scene. I can remember wishing I was invited to big parties in high school but now I'm rather glad I wasn't. Now if it's a party at some convention, I'd give it a try. I really enjoy getting to know folks as well as great conversation. I'd say I'm a pretty good listener, so loud music might distract me. I love it in the car. Don't get me wrong. I guess you could say my family's Thanksgiving gatherings are sort of like parties. There are usually over 30 people running around exchanging early Christmas presents because that's the only time of year everyone is able to meet, but I actually don't mind that for some reason. Yeah it's a madhouse, but it doesn't bother me. Go figure. lol
