Does Mikey already have a love interest?

I was reading a fairly polite discussion on another board about Mikey having a love interest in Leatherhead. At first I was thinking they were nuts, but once I read the evidence I'm not sure what to think.

Before some of you tear into me, I know that it's a kids show and all that, but Nick isn't above sneaking in more adult themes from time to time. I'm sure they are going for bromance in many relationships(Raph and Slash), but how far can a bromance go?

In the episode where Mikey ran and hugged LH so many times I lost track, I remember thinking it was excessive. He was shown spooning him and many other loving scenes, even having hearts for his eyes as he looked at LH at one point. But Mikey isn't a typical guy. He loves everyone for whatever reason, even ICK, so I'm not thinking it's romantic in nature, but is there more to it than that?

I just keep thinking about Renet and how weird it will be to have Mikey suddenly like a girl just out of the blue. I'll be curious to see how they make this work.

Actually, I was rewatching the series. And in the ep LH makes his debut, it really felt like an episode of Cops lol. Like, Mikey brings home the abusive bf and Mikey has all these excuses for him because he sees something other people can't in LH... But eventually LH breaks and beats everyone up, forcing Splinter to kick him out and still Mikey chases after him. It's great. I'm not even a Mikey x LH shipper but it's hilarious to me. And I love Michelangelo. I know what you're saying when he loves everyone so it comes off innocent--but seriously, It Came From the Depths would make a fine Cops ep xD jk sorta.

I mean yeah he knows are females are different then boys, but in his mind April is just another one of the guys. And Karai he thinks of as his sister simply because she's Splinter's daughter.

But then you have that one image of the female mutant that Kurtzman showed. Raph was like "Huhh? Whaa?" And Mikey was more "I don't get it."

So maybe Renet just will feel like someone he can relate to on his level and that is what will spark the attraction.

Wouldn't that make Leatherhead a total creeper, since he's clearly an adult and Mikey's a minor? I think it's just the way Mikey shows affection, he's a hugger.

In real life of course some kids take someone as a role model or otherwise become fond of an older kid or adult and pretty much want to be attached at the hip. Maybe not so much in a role model way in Mikey's case, but for Leatherhead I imagine it may be a similar with this kid having an attachment to him. Mikey adores him for what ever reason, I guess he's just "smitten" by the potential gentle giant thing, esp one that was in need of their help, but not in a romantic sense. He's probably just a big toothy teddy bear in Mikey's eyes.

Seriously though - I don't ship it (and hadn't actually heard of that particular pairing prior to now), but the poster that the OP referenced had a fairly well-thought-out argument and I respect that. Live and let live, IMO.

Wow, interesting interpretation. When I saw the ep where Mikey rushed to hug Leatherhead, it came across like a child happy to see one of his parents. Like a real young child. I used to do that when my father would return from work. I'd run up and hug him.

The age difference strikes me as a bit much here but in general my rules for slash are- 1, does it contradict canon and 2, if one of the character were female, would it be canon? Personally, I see more evidence of Raph/Fishface

I really don't even like the idea of Mikey having a love interest, but I guess we'll see how it turns out with Renet. I don't think of Mikey and LH's relationship as a romantic one, though...LH seems more like a big brother/father figure to him.

LOL oh I hear ya; I like a variety of aspects about fanfic and slashfic as well but as far as Fishface is concerned, the logistical problems of having a physical relationship there is literally the first thing that comes to mind for me. What can I say - my brain lives in the gutter. :tlol:

As for Mikey having a love interest, I think it could be Renet, She's expected to appear on the Nick series pretty soon, and I believe Mikey has a thing for her.

This actually sounds like something that could be canon. Mikey's already obsessed with the show- It would make sense that that obsession could translate over to someone resembling a character from it.

I think I'd have an easier time seeing Mikey and Leatherhead as more of a couple if there wasn't such a huge age gap. Normally that wouldn't matter in and of itself, but because Mikey is only 15 or 16, he needs someone a little closer to his age.

If Mikey is supposed to be older than, say, 7 - as implied by the 'Teenage' in the title, his 'love interests' very likely consist of teenage or adult females he sees on TV in the lair. Actresses, singers, news casters, etc.
If he's younger than 7, yeah, skateboards, pizza, TV, video games, pranks are what gets him going, and all girls are useless and have cooties.
Looked to me like his reaction to Leatherhead was that of an animal lover towards a (very large & volatile) potential pet.

To me, in all seriousness, Mikey loves LH like he would his favorite pet. When they first met he was treating him like a pet. "Can we keep him?" kinda thing. And whenever LH does something cool, Mikey gets all sparkly eyed. I'd be like that too if my dog did a really awesome trick. Then I'd hug him as a reward!

Personally, I wouldn't go that far and call it bromance. There's a certain level of bro-ness that goes into bromance and its just not in LH, know what I'm saying? Mikey could easily make it a bromance if LH was more at his level. That's my view of bromance though--I'm sure others think differently. Like, I think if Raph was closer to Slash they'd be total bros.
