View Full Version : Tyler Perry Cast As Baxter Stockman In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2

Tyler Perry will play the mad scientist Baxter Stockman in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2.
Perry joins a cast that includes returning stars Megan Fox and Will Arnett, as well as newcomer Stephen Amell as Casey Jones. The characters Bebop and Rocksteady, from the popular Turtles cartoon, will also make their big screen debut in the film.
Stockman is a scientist who creates the mutant hunting robots called mousers. In some variations of his story arc, he also becomes a mutant himself, taking on the appearance of a fly, wings and flight included.
Perry is best known for his “Tyler Perry Presents” movies, Diary of a Mad Black Woman and the other films built around his Madea character. He also played the lead in 2012’s Alex Cross, and played a lawyer in last year’s Gone Girl.
Dan Green will direct Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 for Paramount. Further plot details have been kept under wraps, for now.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 is scheduled for June 3, 2016 release.

Hopefully this is a good thing and hopefully he won't be cut out of the movie.
Fingers crossed he will get mutated into a fly. :D

Just heard about this. Seems like Nick and Paramount are really trying to give us exactly what we wanted from the first movie.
I never really rated Perry as a particularly good actor. Then I saw him in Gone Girl and was very impressed by his performance. It'll be interesting to see how they manage to distinguish him from Eric Sachs, who was basically a makeshift Stockman after the fan backlash of Fichtner playing Shredder. :P

You know, I just got back disappointed after Age of Ultron and then I read this crap.
Tyler Perry? Really? The man who is only famous for his schtick as "Sassy old woman" is going to play an arrogant mad scientist, presumably the main villain of the movie? There are so many black actors who are both better actors and box office draws, why the hell would you cast a hack like Tyler Perry?
Wesley Snipes, Idris Elba, Will Smith, Jamie Foxx, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Terrance Howard, Chiwetel Ejiofor. If they wanted a comedian, I'd even pick Chris Rock over Tyler Perry. I mean really, Tyler Perry as Baxter Stockman? Why?

Okay, didn't expect that.
Not that there's something wrong with Tyler himself, it's just a very odd casting.
However, what's the point of Sacks being in the movie then? Did we really need two baxter Sockmans'?
Just clutter, clutter, and more cluttering. Yep, Platinum Dunes never ceases to impress me

okay. Interesting choice.
So we've got at least five villains in this now? Maybe more, if they work in Krang, and if Karai returns?
On top of eight "main" characters?
And how long is this thing supposed to be again?
Tyler Perry was good in Gone Girl and in Star Trek, so I'm cool with this.

Well if Nick can fit Turtles, Splinter, April, Casey, Shredder, Tiger Claw, Rahzar, Fishface, Bebop and Rocksteady Baxter and Karai in a 20 minute episode then Paramount won't have problems fitting, The Turtles, Splinter, April, Vern, Casey, Sachs, Shredder, Bebop and Rocksteady, Baxter and Karai in a under 2 hour movie.
We won't know the running time a month before the movie comes out next year, hopefully it be longer than the 1st movie.

Not sure what to think, suppose it would work if they do it right, though as it stands he just doesn't say Baxter to me.
Was never a character I had much interest in through any version so I can shrug it off I guess unless Baxter takes more screen time than what's reasonable.
I suppose they'll link some of April with him since she'd have known him as a kid, if we're to assume that one guy in her old videos was Baxter.

Ok sorry I didn't think of that but we only got 4 new characters to introduce so far and originals from the 1st movie won't need much introduction. I expect we won't see Bebop and Rocksteady until half way though the movie and I bet Baxter will only be in a couple of scenes.
The model and basket ball players are only cameos and probably last under a minute so thats why I didn't include them.

Do you count the Dock worker April tries to interview in the first flick a character worth mentioning? I wouldn't even bother mentioning the basketball players that will no doubt be nothing more than a cameo.
We also don't know the capacity of any of the new characters. Casey will no doubt be a bit of a beefier role, and possibly Stockman. But Bebop and Rocksteady may not be in any more than a handful of scenes (created halfway through, 'trained' and final battle?). They may just be introduced and setup for the inevitable 3rd movie.
As long as the script is tight (wishful thinking, I know) those characters CAN be balanced. Let's be hopeful that they are/will be.

Thank you, guess my computer hates putting videos on for some reason.
Anyways, I feel Tyler is an odd choice, but he might be able to pull Stockman off. Sometimes when it comes to certain heroes and villains being adapted, the actors we disagree with pull off an awesome performance. (ex: Heath Ledger as the Joker) I only hope Tyler can pull off the role, Baxter is my favorite villain and character in the Ninja Turtles franchise and I don't want him to be screwed over.

Exactly he was good in Gone Girl because of David Fincher.
Tyler Perry is not directing TMNT 2 he's acting in it. He maybe a crappy director for these 'Madea' movies but I expect his acting is a lot better (depending on the director) than his directing/producing so he could be good in TMNT 2.
Also he's probably best at playing serious characters than comedy characters but we know nothing about what Baxter Stockman is going to be like, he could be funny or serious we just don't no yet.
I wonder if Baxter is going to mutate into a fly, seeing it in live action could be quite gruesome.

I'd forgotten he was in Star Trek. I second the thought that good actor aside his eye rolling Madea movies overshadow his other roles to the point it's hard to picture him as anything else.
If remember correctly his role in Star Trek wasn't really that big but casting a fairly big name makes me think Baxter will play a sizable role in this movie which means we have Casey Jones set up, some shenanigans with Megan Fox, Vern, Bebop and Rocksteady and some evil plan by Shredder.
Do we think we think this movie can get any more loaded? Are we really banking on seeing more of the turtles?

Anyone who thinks they're gonna do all this without Krang is nuts, so yes. There's sure to be at least a reference to the character, I'd imagine, which gives them 1 more "person" to fit in there, in some capacity.

Why are they throwing so many characters into this movie? This reeks of "let's throw lots of stuff on the screen but not give real focus or depth to any of them."
Why not just give us one or two villains and do them properly? Shredder got a totally slapdash treatment in the last movie and this one isn't shaping up to be much better - it's obvious that it's just going to be a case of "Look - dozens of shiny things on the screen! I think the issue most people have with Victoria's Secret model and the NBA players appearance is that it's such an odd fit for a TMNT story that the mind instantly races to the worst case scenarios like Bebop and Rocksteady attacking during a game and so on.
If it's just a small scene then it seems like a waste when we know that budget is a concern given the lack of screen time for the turtles was because it costs too much.

I think Christmas just came early for me.
This choice is so hilariously awful. It's not going to be Baxter Stockman. It's going to be Tyler Perry as Tyler Perry.
And look! The usual suspects are super keen on the choice! What a shock!
Oh my god. "He was good in Gone Girl!" Probably because that movie was well written and directed? Yeah that's it. BayTurtles 2 has the writers from BayTurtles 1 and the director of a sci fi found footage kids movie.
This is such amazing news. Cram this sh*tshow to the max, PlatinumDunes. The more stupid and ridiculous it can get the better and faster it'll fail.
Oh happy day.
PD and Bayhaters aside I really think they are trying to make up for the first movie. This one already has Casey Bebop & Rocksteady and now Baxter Stockman.
If that's the case, they haven't really learned anything. We don't need a revolving door of characters and fan-service, we just need a good story told well. And the more characters you cram into a movie like this, the harder that gets.
Except those are all characters who've had several episodes to be be properly set up and get some focus. Most of them had an entire 20-minute episode mostly devoted to introducing them. A movie doesn't have that kind of time. Which means most of these characters are going to be glorified cameos crammed in just to hit the right nostalgia buttons. That doesn't make for a good movie - that's just producers with a checklist.
Avengers also had how many build up flicks? one for most of the main cast....save Hawkeye and Black Widow who were in Thor and Iron Man 2 respectively.
Exactly. The only "main" character in that movie who hadn't been introduced already was Maria Hill (and Hulk, if you don't count the Ed Norton movie). The whole point was that it starred established characters they could throw together and have some fun with without having to do the setup work. That's the only reason it worked as well as it did. And even then, they were facing ONE villain, not a half-dozen of them.

Oh no, I thought you meant that the mo-cap actors will actually be voicing Leo and Splinter for the sequel, unlike the first film. Sorry I read your message incorrectly.:trazz:

It is nearly set in stone.
Because William Fichtner, great character actor that he is, was utterly wasted and very bored-looking in the movie.
Will Arnett, hilarious comedic actor, painfully unfunny in the movie.

Exactly. The only "main" character in that movie who hadn't been introduced already was Maria Hill (and Hulk, if you don't count the Ed Norton movie). The whole point was that it starred established characters they could throw together and have some fun with without having to do the setup work. That's the only reason it worked as well as it did. And even then, they were facing ONE villain, not a half-dozen of them.Didn't they face like a whole army in that movie?
Why?
Idris Elba and Eddie Murphy would have been my picks.
I thought Stockman made a cameo in the first. Fox made a big deal about it.
Why recast the role?
It is possible that Perry might end up as the main villain which is why they recasted the character with a more prominent well know actor. I strongly hope he does end up as the main villain and Shredder takes a back seat in the sequel.

Megan Fox, as a scientist.
Whoooo - boy. Woooo hoooooo.
Anyone else notice that Tyler Perry is repped by WME? Of course he is.
Didn't they face like a whole army in that movie?
Yeah, but they weren't really characters with names and personalities and motivation. They're more comparable to the Foot Soldiers - a nameless army for the heroes to fight, but not the source of the actual conflict. The only villain that qualified as an actual character was Loki (and sort of The Other and Thanos, though they were really only cameos).
Actual character villains in this movie (one assumes) will be Shredder, Sacks, Bebop and Rocksteady, Baxter Stockman, and possibly Krang and Karai. (Though to be fair, Karai and even Shredder hardly qualified as "characters" in the last movie either.) That's a lot. And it makes me think many of them will be treated like Karai was - just kind of there for fan service, but not treated like actual characters. Wasted potential.

But don't worry, this movie's gonna have:
Rocksteady
Bebop
Baxter Stockman
Shredder and/or Sachs

Nah, probably not, they have to fit the underwear model in there somewhere. And can't have one too many women, esp one that needs to be a more serious character and not simply eye candy. That's a difficult character to write.
Was Karai last seen in the truck that went off the cliff, or did she crash somewhere else in that ridiculous chase scene? I don't recall. So... fair chance she's just dead. And if she isn't, she'll have twice as many villains to compete with for screen time in the sequel, so she might as well not be there at all.
I feel bad for Minae Noji. She seemed to be a fan of the character and she could have made a great Mirage Karai. It was a waste of a great character and of Noji's talent and time.

I believe it was left on it's side, off out of to the side after Raph slammed into it. Didn't go over the cliff though.
But if Karai survived that... well, good luck pulling your broken self out of that wreckage and getting yourself to help off a snowy mountain side.

Ok.....I've been getting over a lot of head congestion so I'm late coming on here, but I am not surprised at how many posts this bit of news has received.
Honestly, I don't know what to say. I mean, I've never seen Tyler Perry in any movie aside from the Star Trek and, from what I understand, he's a very dedicated and versatile actor. Would he have been my first choice for Stockman? Probably not, but here we are.
How much do you want to bet this is just like what happened when Whoopi Goldberg was cast as Thompson from Channel 6? Remember how people geek raged about that and it turns out her role was only, what....5 minutes long? And that's including every scene she was in? How much do you want to bet that's what this will be. Maybe Stockman will be in a small scene with Shredder or something and then is axed off and replaced with Sachs because, let's face it, Sachs pretty much WAS Stockman in the first movie.
I made a post earlier how I'd love it if we excluded Shredder from this movie and had General Kraang and Stockman working together like they did in the IDW comics. Stockman tricks Sachs and hands him over to Kraang for some experiment and turns him into a huge monster (NOT Bebop and Rocksteady) that the Turtles need to fight later on. Stockman gets blown up or something by the end of the movie, but Bebop and Rocksteady get away only to be found by Shredder who forces them to join forces with him, leading into a third movie.
Just my two cents....

while you bring up a good point..atleast for me tyler perry as baxter isnt so much the problem
its the dollar sign and the introduction of ANOTHER charactrer into a movie already loaded movie
lets say what you posted happens....Perry scenes would have already been shot, and Perry already got paid..thats money that is gone and they wont get back.., just because he is cut doesnt mean he wont get paid (trust me i know this) and i would bet my measly 2 dollar royalty checks Perrys sign on bonus isnt cheap
its money that is "Wasted" because they couldve put it towards something else...also time wasted on the general pace of the movie itself
even the lowest paid extra still gets paid even if their scenes are cut from the final film
but you also can not deny, while yes he is talented in his own way..he was cast for a very specific reason...to cater to a certain audience
again trust me, they are now reaching to his fans...i remember it kinda happened with star trek....my mom went to go see it just cause he was in it

Everyone seems to be getting hung up on the growing cast roster & how they'll fit everything & everyone into the movie. Well I for one would not be at all surprised if B&R turn out to have as much impact & screen time as Rhino in Spidey 2.
Strongly suspicious we're being fed BS about B&R appearing as "main" characters...I think they'll have 20 seconds or so before the closing credits...

Yeah, I don't think having more character will make less time for character moments for others. The Turtles are already bare boned archetypes off their character, and that not change in Half-Shell. R&B will be one dimensional as well acting more or less equivalent as one character. Karai is just a unique looking hencheman, not a fully character.
We might get some good scenes with Stockman and Sacks trying to one-up each other.
