It's freaking Bruce Lee with Dragon tattos. The animators nailed it all, his attitude, the movements, it's just fantastic, a bit lazy? Sure, but I the end. Hun is Bruce freaking Lee.

There's a big difference between a person's philosophical views and their job. He was an actor, he acted out characters.

I assume that because of other bulky characters such as Dogpound and Tiger Claw are a factor on making Hun more unique (I still like his old appearance though). Considering that Xever was seemingly based on Jim Kelly and Bradford was based on Chuck Norris, it seemed inevitable a Bruce Lee modeled character was set to appear. With each incarnation, it'll take sometime to adapt to another form of a character.
That being said, he's only appeared once and proved to be an interesting character, but I can't say I either hate or like him right now. I say I'd give Hun a few more appearances until I get an honest opinion on him.

Same goes for Chuck Norris. If they made a Arnie spoof villain, who was a hero in Conan, or a villain in the first T movie, I don't see it as a insult. I do loved the sun glasses, a great homage to Bruce Lee in that regard.

Here's my opinion, friend. I like both versions of Hun, I just wish they had this character an original one with a different name. It's just that...while I enjoy the new Hun, as he could improve the pathetic Purple Dragons and it does make sense that since he's in an Asian gang, he has a completely different physical appearance...It just ain't Hun.
Both Huns are very competant, and the first Hun is the basis for a majority of the works he appears in (even in the Mirage series!). He was also a very hard gang member to pin down in season 4 to the point that he won in just about every episode he was an antagonist in that season. It's just that when a character gets remade to the point that his original aspects are gone...it just doesn't feel right.
Due to the differences, I think of this Hun as a different character, just not "Hun". While he's cool and everything, he just isn't the same as the original I grew up with.

Yeah, I kind of agree. Not the slap in the face, but with every other character in here that is a reincanation of previous characters (April, Casey, Irma, Karai, and heck, even Baxter has the same characterization down) But Hun, yeah, they should have kept the similar look of the 2k3 Hun, just update him some bit, or just create a whole new character like they did with Bradshaw, Xever and Tigerclaw.

Agree. I like the character, but, he is not "THE" Hun character for me, he is someone completely new with the same name. But, I'm not surprised by this, there seems to be some sort of dislike of the 2k3 show from the current creators, so anything that they take from that show, they tend to mock. I shudder what they will do with Bishop if he comes back.

I feel the same way with my initial reaction.
I really like this shows take of revamping some of it's characters like Bebop and Rocksteady but with this Hun, that isn't a slight connection to the previous Hun and that bothered me a bit. Although with that being said IDW's Hun is really different in comparison with the 2k3's Hun in terms of personality. 2k3's Hun had shades of a gentleman of war. He was the muscle but he spoke very eloquently despite being a thug. IDW's Hun was nothing but rough edges however his relationship with Casey was the thing that made him interesting as a character. As of now, this Hun is really nothing but a slight obstacle rather then a rival and just a reference to Bruce Lee. I feel there should be something more to him then that.
Still I want try to reserve my full opinion until I see him in more episodes.

I rolled my eyes when Nick presented the new Hun. Horrible.. This "Bruce Lee" figure should be an entirely new character.
Ps. I hate what Nick has done with Bebop. Rocksteady is okay, I guess. But Nick has found a way to make bebop more ridiculous that the OT. Bebop an Rocksteady are nearly perfect in the IDW comic.
It's only been one episode but I'm not impressed. The rest of the Purple Dragons are weird, so I guess he fits in... He'll never replace 2003 Hun though.

Considering that Hun just calls Casey "Hockey Boy", I doubt they have any history.
Personally I don't have much problem with Nick Hun yet. He seemed more or less written like the old 4Kids Hun and even he has no history with Casey, they always make history starting now, ain't too late "burn down dad's store" yet right?
The Bruce Lee thing is a little distracting considering how memorable the "Extremely muscular man with dragon tattoo and scars" design is, but if April can be a psychic teenager, Karai be a snake, Rat King be the Grim Reaper, Traag/Granitor be giants, Rahzar be a Skeleton, Bebop be a Tron-cyborg, Rocksteady be a Soviet stereotype, Shredder be a burn victim, Splinter be tall etc. Then yeah fine, I may prefer bulky Hun, but Hun being an evil Bruce Lee ain't exactly the only major revision to a character this show makes in terms of design.

I just think it's a poor imitation of Bruce Lee. I don't mind Bruce Lee playing a bad guy part. I'm not sure if he even did play any villain roles during his careers. Nick's Hun just feels like a cheap knock off Bruce Lee.

Eh, i don't mind him but i do believe that at one point in development he was a different character who the creators renamed Hun in order to please people who complained about the lack of 2k3 references in the show.
Agree. I like the character, but, he is not "THE" Hun character for me, he is someone completely new with the same name. But, I'm not surprised by this, there seems to be some sort of dislike of the 2k3 show from the current creators, so anything that they take from that show, they tend to mock. I shudder what they will do with Bishop if he comes back.Really? I mean there's no denying the favoritism to the FW cartoon that the creators have, but have they really done anything to indicate that they hold some sort of dislike or prejudice against the 2K3 series aside from using Hun as a name only reference?

I like the character. Wish he was called something else. I get a little cheesed out by the throw back for the sake of a throw back. This character is good enough to have his own name, He doesn't need to be called "Hun" when he looks and acts nothing like the ones before him.

My preference is the 2k3 Hun but it is the only version of the character that I am familiar with. I've read neither the Mirage Tales of the TMNT comic nor the IDW issues with his inclusions. As for this version, I do get where people are getting at with him being radically different from his counterparts but this show has been known for redesigning established characters which is why I often compare it to "The Batman". Like this series, The Batman takes elements from other incarnations of the property and often either changes aspects or redesigns characters to fit their own vision (I really like their version of Cat Woman and Killer Croc). For me, I'm just glad a 2003 character is even represented in this show. The only things that could bother me about this version is how much they tone him down, they change him into a mutant, or how less they use this character. Then again for the latter, the Purple Dragons usually don't get a lot of screen time.

I don't hate their take on Hun but I do think he's way too much like Bruce Lee. Not only does he look and sound like him, he also acts like him. They could've changed him up a bit so that it's not so obvious. Not much thought went into designing this character it seems. All they did was slap tattoos on Bruce Lee and called him Hun.

I wonder if he would been better if they wrote Hun as either Bradford martial art celebrity type of character or maybe writing him as high school transfer student that pretends to act like this straight A's highly academic goodie two shoes but Casey is the only one that knows that real Hun. However because Casey is seen as delinquent by the other teachers except his hockey coach, no one really believes him about the real Hun, which gives Hun pleasure in **** with him constantly.
That dynamic would have been more interesting with Casey and he would seem more of a rival to me rather then just a physical obstacle.

^ Thanks. I don't really mind the design so much as long they going to do something really interesting with him to bring new life to the show.
I mean we have Tiger Claw for nearly a full season, and there is really nothing about him other then being a cool new bad guy to fight the turtles along wiith very sparse character moments like him commenting on Shredder's decisions. He doesn't really shake things up.
A good character to me is someone that will get you hype in anticipation for them to appear on screen, especially interacting with other different characters like Splinter and Leatherhead in that season 2 final.
Sometimes their presence is needed to help round out the other character, which is the impression that I get when Leatherhead was talking to Slash, whenever Casey and April are together in certain scenes to reflect April's state of mind.
Casey could have really use a rival.

That reminds, Shredder did say something about "Success should be rewarded, as failure is to be punished". If his idea of "reward" is at all connected to his idea of "punishment", we might see something like this:

I don't hate the new Hun is a Bruce Lee knock-off but I wish they could have done something to make his design unique. So why not be a little bit faithful to the 4kids design and give him blonde hair. It sounds ridiculous but I can somewhat understand what Cybercubed means about him having no slight resemblance to the original design. At least his blonde hair would make him stand out from his dark-haired purple dragon members and give him some unique flare.
I hope they give him a meaningful rivalry with Casey instead of making it a machoness contest.

I neither like nor dislike him. He hasn't been around enough for me to fairly judge him, but I do feel that it makes sense for the leader of a Chinese gang to be, well...Chinese. Agile and small as well as a martial artist. I personally don't care for bulky characters in a martial arts show.

I like him well enough considering how little we've seen of him so far. I'll reserve stronger judgement until we get to know him a little better. I like his Bruce Lee design, etc. We'll see how long he stays human! ;)

Maybe if they mutate him into a Panda, they'll spoof Kung Fu Panda. ^^;

ATM I don't like him because I got used to the 2003 version, but maybe my opinion will change with future episodes.

Considering the fact that he's based on Bruce Lee? Not at all.
Oh. So completely creatively bankruptedly ripping off an actual person for an already established character with a specific characterization is a good thing? Um...
Note, I haven't quite gotten into season 3 just yet so I can't judge. And I guess I chuckled at the Chuck Norris knockoff that was Bradley/Dogpound/Rahzar.

The only thing that's off about it for me is how it was done in 2k. It was done in the YugiOh manga and toei series (the one that wasn't dubbed). And one of the zombies on Shaman King was based off Bruce Lee too.

I really don't see it as "ripping him off". It's more like paying tribute, imo.

Then why not do it through scans? It's not legal, I'm not going to link anything or even tell you how to do it since it's discouraged, but you can do it if you really want to read these comics.

I love the new Hun. Also, has everyone forgotten the Bruce Lee expy that showed up in that Mirage comics story, helping the turtles save a Chinese restaurant from a gang of thugs?

I don't dislike Hun as a character or anything like that. I actually kind of like his personality. The thing that does bug me about him is the way that he moves. For some reason it just looks so... Unnatural. It's more when he's just walking than anything else, and I can't really describe what seems off about it other than to see he just seems weirdly... Bendy. Maybe I can put my finger on it more if he shows up again.

I don't mind the new character, but I don't see him as Hun, just a new Purple Dragon member with a Bruce Lee fetish.
Maybe later on we can see the original blonde brutish Hun show up and say, "I am the New York Hun, you are the Chinese Hun" and leave it there.

Well now, can't totally blame Cube for this train of thought, because the show has already hinted at there being two Aprils, Donnies, Leo's, Mikeys and Raphs. Actually, with April, there are multiples of her!
