View Full Version : How happy is everyone now that the romance seems to be gone

I always imagined that the romance would just be dropped out of the blue and it seems to have been, for now anyway. I know they need to spend more time on saving NY and fighting Bebop and Rocksteady, but it just seems to have gone away.
I can only assume most of you are pleased with this event. I know the show isn't over by a long shot, but I at least wanted some conclusion.
If I recall, the last romantic thing that happened was when April kissed Donnie in the Dream Beaver episode and he questioned Casey about it. Maybe they will have a super romantic episode when Renet shows up. Hey they gotta throw one in there every now and then. :P

These writers seem to follow a lather, rinse, repeat kind of formula. But yes, give it a proper conclusion and be done with it.

I fell like it will be done till the final episode of this season but with all the mutations, back in new york/old lair, and mind control I thinkthat the turtles have more to deal with than love. But I find the love triangle kinda funny.I just hope donatello gets april its jsut one of those things that makes 2k12 diffrent than every other version of tmnt :tlol:

IMO, too much forced romance can be amatonormative; it's best that the friendships be fleshed out a lot more first before it evolves into romance with good writing. Otherwise, I won't be dissapointed that there won't be anymore forced romance or that the friendship dosen't evolve into one in future episodes.

For now I am counting my blessings but it would make me really happy if there weren't any more plot amnesia. Shipping in this show it just something that I am going to have tolerate and I know that, but a sense of continuity on the other hand can make watching this show in it's entirety a more worth while experience for a long time viewer.
Is it selfish to want both?http://i.imgur.com/lAru4pJ.png

I like the April/Donnie stuff. So I'm waiting to see where that's going to go. I don't mind when it is set aside, though.

To be honest, I hadn't really noticed.
It's kinda nice I guess that maybe the characters have been a bit too distracted with other more important matters right now and giving the teenage flirtations a break.

I don't think the romance is gone. It's just being overshadowed by other crazy events. DonxApril will return. Believe it!

IMO, the romance in general seemed to be toned down a lot regarding the triangle and seems to pop up or in the forefront whenever the plot actually calls for it, like Chinatown Ghost Story. I dont mind it so much, if it's a quip every once in a while for comedic purposes, like in the mom thing ep when Casey introduced Donnie to April's mom. Eps where they feel out of character and the triangle feels forced, like Chinatown Ghost Story, I can do without.

I also think that its just been pushed to the background for now. There's a lot of other stuff going on and there's no need to have it front and centre in every episode (god knows how much whinging there would be if it was front and centre every ep!)
It'll be back. :)

Yeah the "romance" just didn't work because it didn't go anywhere, but also because having the "girl not responding to advances" stage being the one they stuck on made it really frustrating.
I just kept thinking to myself "She's not into you Donnie! She doesn't even seem to get what you're trying to do!". The closest we got something going anywhere was the pity kiss, and then we found out that it might not even have happened.
So yeah, if it's gone, good riddance.

Apritello and Leorai are still happening, just put on hold for now.

This is my believe too.
It's not over until the show gives some kind of closure on it. Sure, it feels like Donnie is kind of accepting that April doesn't feel that way about him, so instead of directly crushing on her he has moved on to the new stage of taking it out on Casey instead... I don't think that's really over.

Oh has it stopped? I kind of stopped watching the show because of the ham fisted romance B-story. Does this mean its safe for me to come back and start watching the show again?

The ham fisted romance B-story have been on the down low since they got back to New York. The show has been better in my opinion although conclusion to Return to New York was a little rush but it wasn't like the whole city forget about the invasion in the next episode which was a huge saving grace for me. Karai fans like me are not happy with mind control serum because the show clearly stated that it's going to be use on Karai, which means all that character arc stuff with her is going to revert back to square one with her being loyal to the Foot. :x
Anyhow you should really watch this new episode. There are some minor nitpicks but this episode does a lot things right that's been missing from other episodes like good comedy from season 1. If Todd Casey, who wrote this episode, makes another episode like this with consistent continuity in mind then he should really be considered to be the next head writer for season 4 or 5.

I am putting my hopes that on screen chemistry between Ashley Johnson and Cipes will be enough to sell the idea of them as a possible pair at least make more then simply tolerable for me. Renet also sounds like a fun character and I would want them to write her as a character of intrigue like Muckman and a source of story possibilities of them playing around with the idea of time travel rather then just a cool new character like Hun, and other mutants of the week. :ohwell:

With Renet, They can do an entire season of Time Travel with the Turtles, They should do homages to the Turtles in Time video game.

Yeah but not just a straight homage. Maybe take some other inspirations from other media like Back to the Future and The Time Machine by H.G Wells that deals with time travel, but a emphasis on the conceptual story telling part of it. Maybe even some clever lamp shading on time travel cliches.

It hasn't stopped at all. Don/April went on throughout the whole Northampton arc and even when they got back to NY, Don still shows jealousy over April hanging around Casey.
There just hasn't been much shipping in the last 5 or so episodes so people think it stopped. This thread makes no sense since there was huge shipping for 10 out of the 15 Season 3 eps so far.

Personally, I would like it if April and Donnie could progress, but only if the writers handle it thoughtfully and intelligently. But so far they've shown that they're pretty much incapable of that, so in that case I'd prefer all hints of romance to cease.
