Good Morning!
So we meet another character from the past. Is it another one-time cameo, or will Mondo join in the weekly fray and maybe join the Mighty Mutanimals?
Have fun!
And happy Mother's day to all our Drome Moms. :)
LET'S GO!
I hope he joins the Mighty Mutanimals! I got doughnuts for the occasion. I was gonna get pizza, but the Force was strong with the doughnuts.

I'm looking forward it. I genuinely enjoyed the episode with the introduction of Muckman/Joe Eyeball, and I hope this will be a similar kind of fun episode.

Caught a few references.
1. When Mikey rescues Mondo Gecko, he yodels like Tarzan.
2. The musical beat in Fishface's arena is "We Will Rock You" by Queen.
3. I believe on Mondo's shirt is the word "Toka", I think. (unsure on this one)

A good idea for an intermediate episode is to have a fun, Battletoads-style level at the end, and it delivered, through the reactions of the evil mutants to the variety of obstacles provided to of course the ever-popular slo-mo finish. In away, it was a tribute to '90s movies Michelangelo both through the voice actor, slang, and of course the Archie orgin. I liked how Mikey mentioned how "I'm smart!" after the announcer mentioned how he is known as the dumbest, though the "party dude" and of course "Cowabunga!" was definitely the biggest homage we'll likely see. The thug battle earlier on wasn't too bad even if just standard fare. Another solid example at the beginning what makes Mike different from the others (Leo training with April, Raph's figure collection, Don's special work). Not the most memorable episode, but a fun filler to enjoy.
Overall: 7.5/10

Different, but refreshing, was a pretty fun episode and nice to see a Mikey/Casey pairing. Wasn't even aware who would be voicing Mondo, but sooo obvious and a big plus, like the character immediately even just for that fact alone. :D
I like that it kind of leaves you wondering if it was all only known villains or if there were any as yet unknown faces in the crowd.
For a sec I thought maybe Fishface jumped ship from Shredder's bunch and was doing his own thing.
Was it just me, or did Leo pull an April-ish reaction/facial expression? Been hanging out with her too much... lol

The episode was good but not the best, it was just a fun filler lighthearted episode.
The fight scene with Mikey and Casey vs Hun and the Purple Dragons was great.
It was shame we didn't see enough of Leo, Raph and Donnie in this episode.
Loved Mikey in this episode, he was awesome
Love seeing Casey and Mikey hanging out.
I like Mondo Gecko, glad they included a flashback. It was so sad to hear his parents kicked him out.
Mondo Geko sort of reminded me of Tony Hawk.
Shredder's Dog is out on the streets.
Did anyone think that Raph was doing something dirty in his room (like some boys who have urges) but then we find out he was playing with his toys.
Loved hearing the sound of the Queen song, We will, we will, Rock you.
Pretty wired seeing all the bad guys all together in this evil hang out.
I thought the skate deathmatch race was great, I bet the animation looked awesome.
Can't wait for next weeks episode.

Great episode. I was definitely not expecting the last half of this episode. Mondo Gecko was great and I liked Hun even better in his second appearance.
But overall, there's not much to say. It was a funny, entertaining episode.
I saw lots of mutants in the stands, such as Spiderbytez and Snakeweed (I think?) I wish the little Pizza mutant wasn't there, because that would mean the Pizza Face episode wasn't Michelangelo's dream (I'll still contend that it is because it makes the episode so much more acceptable).
I would have liked to see something more threatening done with Fishface but I guess this was okay.
Cowabunga!

The race reminded me of xgames on the original playstation. There were times when you would skate/bike/street luge/board through dark tunnels with boulders and flames flying. Loved hewring the movie mikes voice as mondo gecko. I not familiar with his character so this version was perfectly fine. I perfectly agree he shpuld join up with the mutanimals. They really only have slash and leatherhead in the fighter department.

That. Was. Awesome. 'Bout time that Fishface got some love. Sorta. LOL. Felt bad for Mondo, worse for Fishface. The whole skating thing. *claps* Kudos to Nick. Honestly, I was expecting Mr. X to be a new character or someone like Bishop (long shot, but eh.), but in the end, yay! More Fishface. Also, am I the only one that 'daww'ed at Raph playing with his figures? Or was surprised the beheaded video games guy. Heh.
And next week's episode. Yesss. Must see.

That was really fun. I laughed a LOT. Robbie killed it! I'm not really a fan of Mondo's Nick design, but as far as his overall character/personality is concerned, he's awesome. It was really cool to see Casey hanging out with Mikey, I've always liked it when there's an "unlikely" pairing. Obviously they're good buddies, but we never get to see that, so that's neat. How about a Leo/April episode or a Raph/Splinter one? I was pleasantly surprised to see Hun return! While I did enjoy this episode & think that it was written wonderfully (if only for it's humor & characterization of Mondo + I loved Casey's choice slang in this one!) blah blah blah, I don't really dig the concept of it. An extreme sports face-off for mutants? Meh. It worked, it was funny, but not something I'd ask for. I understand skateboarding is how you connect Mondo & Mikey, but does the whole episode have to revolve around it? I feel like this sorta goofy event is counterproductive to the series tonally. Xever's a banger with a passion for cutting the sh*t out of people, why is he holding a skateboard/rollerblade challenge? He should be tryna, ya know, murder them or something. I know the villains are supposed to be sorta moronic & all that, but I don't like when things like this take a notch off of the evil belt, so to speak. I like my big toothed mutant baddies to be a bit more driven by their desire to harm.

I enjoyed seeing the mutant villains during their 'downtime'. Usually they face the turtles during 'work hours'. It really flipped this episode on its head.
We've needed some more Fishface for a while and this was so much fun.
While I don't think Mondo is a bad character, I don't know how much we can get out of him story wise. Now that we've seen his back story and he's no longer working for Xever, I have a feeling he'll end up like Snakeweed, occasionally popping up when they need mutants to fill the background scenery.
I don't want that but I can't imagine he'll instigate major plots unless he does the obvious and join the Mutanimals.

That's a given, Besides, He needs a place to stay.
And having Mondo Gecko be human previously, Makes a lot more sense, Since I don't know how the IDW version even has knowledge about skating boarding, Let alone, Act like a human.

Mondo is annoying. I'm sorry but he really is annoying, just needed to say that.
Over all the episode was pretty fun but is it even intended to be canon? Even though I liked the racing, I seriously doubt any of this was intended to be in continuity, or at least someone really didn't care about continuity. Here's a couple of headscratchers:
If Mondo has been taken care of by Xever since his mutation, why wasn't he part of the Foot Clan?
When did Xever have time for a X-Men Morlock sewer society?
Most of the villains observing the race have connections to the foot, why make Mikey and Casey race instead of bringing them to the Shredder?
Follow up, why not capture them after the race and bring them to Shredder?
Aren't some of the villains in the crowd... Well... Dead?
Again the episode is fun but this show has continuity and it's so weird to see an episode that just seems to ignore it. If this episode is indeed canon... Well, then it's just bizarre. I just imagine this scenario:
Ah, Xever! I heard that you captured one of the Turtles and that wretched boy. Bring them to me!
... Uhm... Actually master Shredder, I made them race me through the sewers to entertain our allies...
WHAT! Oh well, at least you all overwhelmed them so you could bring them to me.
....Uuuuuhhhhhh....
Grrr...

alright ep overall, hun showing up was a nice touch and had some funny moments and enjoyed tigerclaws reaction 2 stockman puking on the popcorn  but the whole skating death race thing felt a bit 2 much like the race w/ speed demon, considering the circumstances on the speed demon ep, it was pretty gd but this ep felt bland compared 2 it

Mondo is annoying. I'm sorry but he really is annoying, just needed to say that.
Have you never hung around with a skater, rocker, or stoner in real life? Mondo Gecko is based on all of them.
Aren't some of the villains in the crowd... Well... Dead?
No? Most of them were Shredder's henchmen, Rahzar, Tiger Claw, Bebop, Rocksteady, Baxter and Hun. And then we had Spiderbitez and Snakeweed.
The only difference is Pizzaface was there.
That was a nice episode. I really enjoyed the way the characters were written here. It was great seeing Mikey and Casey hanging out, and I definitely liked Mondo's character. Mikey saying he felt responsible for what happened to Jason with the mutagen incident (as they were involved) was a nice touch.
Good to see Hun appear again as well. Just love his mannerisms and fighting style. Nice fight scene too.
Raph and Donnie playing a game against each other was fun to see. It's nice seeing Don outside the lab for a change, he's spending a lot of time there lately.
The entire race was well done and I liked how Mikey, Casey and Mondo were portrayed. In other episodes I sometimes feel Casey can be bit annoying but he was written well in this episode. Casey not willing to hang out with Mondo after he wanted to keep some of the money was a nice addition as well.
I loved hearing Mikey say Cowabunga. Perfect ending to an enjoyable episode.

Did Mondo have a human name in the Archie series? I can't remember what his name was, I don't think it was Jason though. I also liked how they kept the "Mr. X" aspect from the original cartoon.

No I don't expect Mondo be good at fighting, but all it took for Hun to tire him out was to block him with the foot. Clearly we're not just meant to think of him as inexperienced, we're meant to think of him as utterly feeble.

This episode could only work if you go into this completely cold so that you could be surprise by the thunder dome style death race.
The only thing that brought this episode down was the ham fisted today lesson on "true friendship" like how Uncle grandpa/steven universe cross over just have to have that storybook moral of accepting weird people. If it's going to be a wacky episode, then just let be a wacky episode.:trolleye:
It especially bug me that the show had repeat the falling off the building twice to get it's point across and with Mondo Gecko saying outloud. It was like in "Good, the Bad and the Casey Jones"'s scene of Casey pushing Raph out of the way from the train to establish that "And now they're friends" and did that type scene again in another episode. I said once and I'll say it again.
Subtlety is not their strong suit, but the surprise kept this from being some old ******** for me.

Mom and I watched the episode together, and we loved it. Mondo was great, and Robbie did a good job. It was nice seeing Casey and Mikey hanging out as that's not something we've seen before. I also liked Xever's role and was also surprised that Mr. X was him and not an OC. However, it was nice seeing him since he's rarely been around. The skateboarding race was good, but when did Xever learn to skateboard? He never did that before. I loved how he was given a last name, too. Overall, a good episode, and I see that I was right and that Pizza Face was not a dream. Can't wait for next week's episode for sure, and I hope Mondo joins the Mutanimals.

I really liked this episode. I love when the turtles are skating, and this is an entire episode FULL of that. Really cool. Love Mondo's design, though I was hoping his voice would sound a bit younger... it's still a good take.
I was not expecting them to do a skate arena thing so that it felt out of left field to just suddenly have it pop into the episode like that--good choice for a an episode premise. If I had a complaint it's that the audience should have been full of random underworlders and maybe some sideline mutants, NOT full of the entire TMNT villain lineup... that felt off and doesn't make a lot of sense to me. It also makes the tmnt world feel very small... like those are the only characters that even exist, which is a shame...
But it's not a big complaint, the episode is fun and takes us on a journey unlike anything else we've seen in the 2012 series so far. It was a fun ride and I hope we get more turtle skating cause I always find it so cool.

Mixing Mondo's Archie origin with the Mr. X plot from his OT debut with Xever in place of random-evil-guy-who-was-there-all-along-apparently was pretty clever.

I have noticed no major difference in the average episode quality throughout the series (excluding Northampton). Every season has had a few bad and mediocre episodes, but this one didn't seem like a chore to watch at all. It was funny and clever.
If you couldn't enjoy this episode for this goofiness (it's TMNT, you should expect some ridiculousness) then how have you stayed with the show this far? This episode was fairly standard for Nick TMNT. The show has done tons of weirder stuff in past seasons and earlier episodes in season 3.

Ok, they have every right to relax; but I thought they would attack after the race. At least that's what I thought TigerClaw would have done, I kept watching like: "Look at him, eating popcorn, ... enjoying a skate race of 'doom' ..."
Well, I loved it, :3
Just seeing the villains just sit down and hope Casey, Mike and Mondo will get destroyed one way or another doesn't seem like them though. I think they would interfere or even plot plans.
I'm sure they are all: "Shh, don't tell Shredder we did this ..."

The Michelangelo and Casey Jones pairing is unique. I do not know it happening before so its cool to see the pair up. Cool to see him interact with Mondo Gecko as well.
Mr. X reference and the human with a pet lizard and part-time rocker mixing Archie and the '87 cartoon.
Jason? What is that a reference to?
Fish Face gets something relevant and a last name? Interesting. I thought he would be put on the back burner with six mutants under Shredder's command now.

I'm assuming they likely freaked out, not just simply kicked out. It's been a while though, I suppose he may just be used to and accepted his new life by now.

I love the characterization in this. It's like they FINALLY got Mondo Gecko right. THIS is how he's supposed to act like according to the back of the original Playmates figure in the 80's. A fellow surfer/skater dude for Mikey to hang with.
The 80's cartoon just didn't go for the whole surfer vibe at all. He was good in Archie... for like an issue or so before he left to join the Mutanimals. He barely got to hang with Mikey in the IDW series. Here we get to see them interact and become best buds a lot more than any previous version.
Loved the classic Mr. X reference, even though that was lame in the original. Love the villain cameos even though it just made no sense. The italian mafia guys pay no mind to all these talking animals? At least it have Xever some spotlight. I especially liked when he reminded Mikey that Fishface is an insult and his real name is Xever. Nice to see these guys not accept Mikey's dumbass names.

I really liked this episode a lot! To me, THIS is how a filler kind of episode should be.
his version of Mondo Gecko is really cool, and I can't wait to see more of him! He was one of my favorites from the original toy line, and although I don't think the new design is quite as good, it's still pretty cool looking. I do like that he's really short compared to the turtles, April and Casey though.
As silly as this episode was with the whole racing thing, it was still really fun. Seeing all the mutants make cameos was just awesome, and it's pretty funny to see that this is what they do in their free time  the only thing that I don't understand is why they all just kind of left after the race was over. I mean, Shredder wants the turtles dead, as do most of those mutants (some of which are working for Shredder!) and yet none of them thought to attack and/or try to capture any of them? Besides that, I thought the episode was pretty solid. Oh, and I love how they kind of sort of brought back "Cowabunga!" :D

There were so many good references in this episode. There was the title Meet Mondo Gecko right off the bat, "Cowabunga!" (finally), "gnarly", "jump the dog", the Tarzan yell, "that's gonna hurt", Mr. X, "dude", "bogus", and "party dude" which were all references that were neat to hear.
It was really neat to have Mondo Gecko's origin and story be a combined version of the Original Cartoon and the Archie Comics. I liked that a lot. The only thing we didn't see him attached to that old time fans would think of Mondo involved in was The Mighty Mutanimals. It could still happen too.
I loved having Robbie Rist back in TMNT. He fit nicely as this versions Mondo Gecko vocalist. Just enough different to not be exactly like the movie Mikey voice. I found it interesting that Fishface has this whole other "job" to do now that Bebop and Rocksteady are pretty much higher up on the muscle list for Shredder. At least it kind of shows what Fishface is doing when we don't actually see him. And hearing Xever's full name was an interesting touch as well. "We Will Rock You" was pretty cool too.
It was nice to have the show acknowledge another person that was mutated by a can of mutagen from the beginning of season two as well. Seeing Hun again was nice too. I also like how realistic this show handles their animal mutants and Mondo was very influenced by the specific species of gecko the show went with. And of course another video game win for Raph is always welcome in my book.
I feel like Tiger Claw wouldn't have been at the skateboarding race but I guess even he can have some fun at times. And especially since he said "You did not just do that." I felt a little cheated when I saw the three Shredder Mutants in the stands though. I did want to think that Splinter had killed them but as we've seen with Kraang Subprime, this show isn't trying to kill off many characters. I'm also starting to wonder if these Fulchi Twins are going to become more significant in the future. Anyway, this was just a really fun episode.

That was really out of nowhere and of all things...just so it fit with Mondo Gecko's love for skating. It was literally an excuse to have a race.
A better way to have done it was to just have Mondo and Casey race across town or something since Casey didn't like him to begin with. Then end up fighting Fishface after introducing him as his Mr. X but then wanting to destroy Mikey and Casey he realised he was bad.

Yes but it seem to be done on purpose to catch you by surprise and the entire idea being so ridiculous in nature had somehow made it into a comedic element and thus enable me to enjoy the ride. That and the idea of a mutant thunder dome style death race sounds ****ing awesome. http://www.narutoforums.com/images/smilies/series2/omges1.png
It was something about the execution that made me feel that this shouldn't be taken seriously at all and yet that feeling was ruin by forcing on a today's moral on friendship.

It was an entertaining episode, but if we're going to compare it to the FW cartoon then it took on one of the worse aspects of that show, the bizarre continuity. I mentioned it before, it really does not make any sense based on previous episodes.
I didn't expect it to be Xever either, although I guess it wouldn't be any other character if they were going to go with an established character.
I find Mondo to be really annoying (although I seem to be the only one here who thinks so), maybe his parents did too? Maybe they didn't love him to begin with, the mutation was just an excuse to finally kick him out. As for why he wasn't bothered by the mutation, it happened a year ago so he might have come to terms with it.

I enjoyed this episode!
I love this version of Mondo Gecko. As someone who didn't care for the character before, I really like this version of him. All he wants to do is have fun. I think he should be new friend for Mikey in the same vain as Casey and Raph are. I loved the silly idea of Fishface hosting a skateboarding race. It seems so....unexpected. I wouldn't pegged him as that type of guy. It's nice to see the bad guys have something to do on their spare time. The bobby traps were pretty lethal though; piranhas that bite Mikey's crouch (OUCH! XD), the flames, and the smashing walls that smashed Fishface away.
And Mikey shouted "Cowabunga"! It's odd that Mondo Gecko didn't shout "Booyakasha" after he asked him if he could use it. I wonder how often Mikey is going to shout it though if he will at all.

Personally, I'm glad it was just a nod. It was really cool that Muckman's episode was an homage to the original, but for the split second I thought they were once again miming an OT classic, I was like "Awwww, man, c'mon...".

I think this was a very good, "Feel good nostalgic" episode.
I loved Mondo gecko and his weird since of humor, His design, And his skate board lingo. Shouting out Cowabunga with THAT VOICE, it was great. Them talking about how Old fashion cowabunga was... But at the end then both saying it!:D
I liked pretty much everything about this episode except, Pizza face cameo, and Raphs action Figures. If he's 16+ he shouldn't be playing with dolls imo.

I'm not dissing people for collecting action figures, cleaning them, posing them, making or altering them, or displaying them. I have a few myself.... I'm only saying to me.... The way in which he was playing with them seemed pretty childish and I think of Raph as being more tuff.

I remember that I was really sad when I couldn't play with action figures anymore. I must have been about 12 the last time I tried. My brother, who is 5 years older, and I were playing with our Star Wars action figures. It was just awkward, plots didn't naturally come to us and we just didn't get any fun out of it.
Sorry for this totally irrelevant story but I wouldn't frown upon someone playing with action figures. I still have all my toys just for nostalgia and I look at my childhood as the best years of my life. If someone can still get the same joy from toys as they did when they were children, I don't see the harm. Although it would be a guilty pleasure that I wouldn't tell people about. :P

I found this to be a really fun episode! Love hearing Robbie as Mondo, and his design is totally adorable. I liked his story, and I loved that they had Xever as some sort of Fagin figure to all the homeless mutants, and I was so happy to see the likes of Snakeweed and Spiderbytes again (and I thought it was hilarious to have Pizza Face the slice there), if only for a moment!
This episode was silly and fun, which I am totally not opposed to when it's well done. I was happy to have Xever in the spotlight again, loved seeing Mikey and Casey hanging out and Leo and April hanging out. And I love love love seeing the henchmen/mutants on their downtime. Too funny. I hope we get more of Mondo and that he joins the Mighty Mutanimals.

So this is what Xever has been up to since he fell out of favor with Shredder. For me at least, it actually makes sense. He's always had a grandiose personality and a flair for adrenaline rushes, and he seems to have a lot of time on his, uh, feet, since Shredder seems to employ Tigerclaw to do most of his bidding now. I'm guessing he's kind of done with Shredder, and would rather use mutants/the turtles for his own entertainment purposes, especially since they were all supposed to be annihilated at the end of the race anyhow. If there were more mutants who were changed in the great mutagen drop, that would kind of explain what might've happened to them, and why they're not all over the city.
The little tiny Xever fishies were hilarious! So is Leo's incredulous face. I didn't know you could move your face that way, Leo.
I loved getting to see Mikey and Casey hang out, and have their own episode. It was nice to focus on them for a while. Mondo acts almost just like a skater friend I had in middle school, who I'm sure would've proudly licked his own eyeballs for all to see had he possessed that ability. :P
I'm guessing that Mondo didn't have the greatest relationship with his parents anyhow, considering how they kicked him out for being mutated by no fault of his own. It would explain why he doesn't seem to care about being on his own much. I thought it was also really cool that he became one of the few mutants to be completely comfortable and happy with his mutation.
Cute little episode. Also, I like how the poll results are pretty evenly split.

Do people seriously believe Mondo will be forgotten? When he's an established member of the Mutanimals since the Archie comics and is in the IDW Mutanimals as well?
Most of the forgotten mutants were the "monsters" who can't talk and were just there to be a generic battle in an episode.

This pretty much sums up my feelings throughout the entire episode. It was so awesome hearing Rist as a skateboarding radical mutant again. I was having more flashbacks than a Family Guy episode! Every time Mondo spoke, I kept having random Mikey quotes pop in my head.
"WHEEL OF FORTUNE, DUDE!"
"And I thought everybody loved Vanna!"
"Wayne Gretsky....on Steroids?"
"Pizza dude's got 30 seconds..."
Yeah, this was mainly a filler, but it was a good filler. I especially liked seeing Casey and Mikey hanging out. For awhile, he was just the possible April love interest/Donnie rival/Raph Buddy. It's nice to see him get along with all the other Turtles. Now if we can just get this with April (Though Eyes of the Chimera helped with that a little).
Only thing that bugged me was the race. Not that Xever was running an underground race syndicate; I actually really liked that. But...how the heck was he able to set up all those traps in the New York sewer? Still, this is no sillier than what the OT Turtles had. I pretty much agree with Andre about how this is just like watching an old TMNT episode, so it's nice to see it introduced in a new show.
Mondo was adorable and I can't wait till next weekend with Karai...

Yeah, Xever should have just kept being called Xever even after mutation. I can understand why they did it with Bradford because Rahzar is an iconic character, but Xever?Xever is still called Xever, he even objects to Mikey calling him 'Fishface.' If he were to adopt the name for himself I'd say yeah, it's more original having him stay 'Xever,' but so far that seems light-years from even happening. Both Xever and Bradford look much like they'd rather take both of Mikey's nun-chucks and ram them up his butt whenever they get called the names, so I don't think anything really got changed.

Nicknames are a good taunt? Calling him Xever as he wants might be too much respect shown to an enemy.
Now Tiger Claw on the other hand, I'm surprised they haven't come up with a taunting name for him, but I suppose he's dangerous enough that their encounters with him just haven't given them time to bother considering it.

Great episode! Super fun! I love Mondo Gecko and I think Nick did him justice. The only thing that really bothered me was that Mondo says he has to lick his eyeballs because geckos don't have eyelids, well that's true, mostly. African fat-tailed geckos, which is what Mondo appears to be, are the only species of gecko to actually have eyelids.

Wow. Now this was a great episode! Not only did it introduce a character OT fans enjoyed, or even the voice of the 1990 film Michelangelo (thanks to Robbie Rist), but it was stronger than the last two episodes. I did enjoy "Noxious Avenger", and "Clash of the Mutanimals" did leave off a good feeling for me, but this one just proved to me that I have not lost interest in this show at all! I was impressed.
Funny thing: this race to live concept for Mikey kind of reminded me of this episode from Reboot called "Enzo, the Smart" (one of my favorites). Because the boy is responsible for dumbing down everyone in the city of Mainframe, he has to win an Olympics game himself so no one dies (or in the case of show, nullified). Seriously, if Ciro was inspired by that series, then I applaud him. It's a great show. :tcool:

-As everyone else has previously mentioned, Robbie Rist was excellent as Mondo Gecko.

-Sorry, but Raphael is past the age of playing with toys. That felt out of character to me. I think it was supposed to be adorable or something but it was off.
-I believe Mondo said he turned into a gecko about a year ago... That means the turtles are about 16--again, Raph should not be playing with toys like he's 10. (I have a feeling someone's gonna fight me on this lol like: "Hey! I'm 16 and I LOVE my action figures!"
-I also want to point out that Mondo is a leopard gecko which means that he shouldn't have sticky pads on his toes. And there is also no need for him to always lick his eyes as leos have eyelids and are the only geckos able to blink. Nerdy animal side showing right now--I'm just saying...They also don't use their tails to curl and grip nor do their tongues extend. u.u

Yeah I can agree with some of the things you said about the gecko anatomy since I'm a wild animal dork myself. I guess they used a leopard gecko for the majority of the base of the character (why not 100% I don't know) and added a few other general gecko normalcy's to the character, like the eyelids, sticky pads on the fingers, and long tongues.

Yeah, they could've just used the design of a tokay and everything would've made more sense. Though I'm not sure if their tongues extend that far. Or a panther gecko :3 Those are so cute. My roommate's kid had one but he didn't know how to take care of it and it died :(

Hmm, maybe they used a Mediterranean Gecko? We get them all over the place out here, and they have the sticky pads, extending tongues, AND lick their eyeballs! And they look fairly similar to a leopard gecko, too. (I thought that's what these were, for a long time, but turns out they just look kinda like them.) I wonder if Mondo's tail would come off? The little Mediterranean ones do. I find them inside at work sometimes, and always have a devil of a time catching them to take them back outside without their tails snapping off in reflex.

I've had geckos and having one drop their tail on me was my worst fear. Luckily it never happened. Geckos typically drop their tails in a life or death situation. It serves as a chunky, wiggly decoy for their predators to pounce on instead of them.
Edit: Oh, and I looked at pix of the Mediterranean gecko and their tails are quite thin. Mondo probably comes from the Eublepharidae family. Those have the chunky tails and movable eyelids.

Yeah it sure looks like they mixed a Leopard Gecko and a Mediterranean Gecko into one to have all of the attributes of Nick's version of Mondo Gecko. Weird not to just go with one animal and stick with it but that's fine I guess. At least we have a distinct new version of Mondo Gecko that we didn't have before.

Considering I'm not a big fan of his design, it's frustrating to read this stuff. They based him on such a specific species of gecko but have him behaving contrary to it. I know it's just aesthetics but c'mon... If you want him to have all these funky traits that this species apparently lacks, then just make him a generic neon green one as he always had been, I say.

Yeah it is a tad confusing when you get down to it. I would think you entirely base the design on the one specific species of animal you inspire it from or you just base the design on his classic look that has continued for the entire series until now.

Actually, I think they based the past Mondo's off the day gecko--which are really cool looking. Even IDW nails it. He even has the blue eyelids. It would've been cool to see how Nick would've done that. I like Mondo's day gecko design better honestly. :3

Mondo is adorable. I'm happy that we are FINALLY getting some good mutants this season. It's also nice to see Xever be at least somewhat useful again.
I had said in my previous comments that Casey was hilariously written & that I loved his personality in this one, the slang & the jokes. That particular line was pure gold. If he were this clever & bro-like all the time, I'd be so happy. :trazz:
Actually, I think they based the past Mondo's off the day gecko--which are really cool looking. Even IDW nails it. He even has the blue eyelids. It would've been cool to see how Nick would've done that. I like Mondo's day gecko design better honestly. :3

"I've always wanted to lick my own eyeballs!"
Apparently, such things aren't a physical impossibility for some humans (https://www.yahoo.com/health/inheriting-a-long-tongue-118876624996.html), but I don't really know about anthropomorphic turtles.

:tlol: That's fair. Of course there's nothing wrong being young at heart. I was just saying, to me, it was out of character. We've never seen Raph play with toys before. And when you're 16, usually that's not something you typically do anymore.
It was out of character. I feel like they just put that moment in there to see what they can get pass the censors. Come on, it totally looked like he was playing...with his other toys. That was completely intentional.

This episode was kinda bittersweet in that I loved it but Robbie Rists's voice, man... he is Michelangelo to me. There's been many great Mikey's since (I can't think of a bad one) but this was a reminder that 'There's Only One Elvis'. I'm sad that he'll likely never be Mikey again, unless its for a videogame or something.
Having said that, I still hope they reach out to Josh Pais & Brian Tochi for guest voices in the near future.

So instead of...I don't know...having Raphael show ANY king of lasting effects of being mind controlled and attacking his own family...which just happened in the Previous Episode...let's get a 'jerking the chain' joke in there for him instead and then 'oh, he's just Playing with toys'.
Fantastic.
Hey, here's an idea...
Raph is depressed and down in the dumps...understandable when you were forced to attack your own family. Now, who are the two that Raph is supposed to be closest too? Mikey and Casey.
You could have had both Mikey AND Casey bring Raph out with them (have it be Mikey's idea) so that the three of them can hang out together. To get out of the lair and try to make Raph 'lighten up/have fun/smile' after what had happened to him in the previous episode (and both Mikey & Casey would be the two perfect guys to do that for Raph). Take Raph's mind off of being forced to attack his family. But hey...I guess that'd be Too Good of an idea to do...It would give some continuity to the show, give some possible Raph/Mikey/Casey emotional moments, and more.

I agree, Xever has that soothing, smooth quality to his voice. It's like he's trying to hit on people when he's talking. :tlol:
Which is why Xever should try to only date blind people. Hard on the eyes, easy on the ears.

I mean it makes sense why he wouldn't be sad because he didn't hurt anyone and is no longer mind controlled.

If you want to see more emotional depth about all of that, your best bet is to read fan fiction or create one of your own, RamboRaph. That isn't how Nick rolls, and you're just going to have to get used to that. I like that they don't do that because it gives fans the freedom to create their own scenarios of what could have happened after that.

Come on man! Lets see some of your delicious artwork on your take of Mondo. You havn't done any in a while.:(
I liked the episode. thought it was great fun. I would love to see Mondo become like Casey Jones, a regular ally.

No it's not , there's a ton of animated shows that have a lot of emotional momemts Like "Sanjay and Craig". This shows focuses more on action and comedy so I don't mind the lack of emotional moments but that's just me you're free to be upset about it

So? That's the beauty of it. If you're not happy with how an episode turned out or you wondered what may have happened after that, then you're free to write about it and envision it in your own head. I love that aspect of the show. Not everything has to have emotional depth all of the time. I'd rather not see Raph being depressed about what happened in the last episode. I'd rather he get over it and realize that it wasn't his fault and move on, which he did.

I'm not asking for All The Time. I'm not asking for Days of Our Lives, or As The World Turns. How about One scene/one moment of Raph being down in the dumps and Mikey cheering him up? That would have been perfectly fine.
And I'm sorry, I don't buy into that reasoning. That's pretty much going 'oh who cares about this gap, and that gap, and this hole, and that hole, and those 20 gaps over there...just fill it out yourselves'. I'm sorry, but usually that IS the writers' jobs to do so. Otherwise, let's just not have a show at all and we'll just make the whole thing up in our minds.
To Ninturtle: So if you tried to kill your family while you were controlled, you'd be fine and dandy by the next time? To each their own. I wouldn't be.
Just because it's a 'cartoon' doesn't meant it can't do a little bit more with consistency, or it can't try to 'raise the bar' a bit. Which I'm sorry but No, this show hasn't...especially the 3rd season. It just relies on nostalgia. Nostalgia with older voice actors (even when first casting Rob Paulsen, or having Corey Feldman, or now with Robbie Rist), the old cartoon, older horror movie references (which was pretty much the first third of this season), etc.

I think maybe they just used some images of different geckos as inspiration, and just used the traits that were most visually interesting.
I kind of like it, but I guess from a REALISTIC standpoint, it doesn't make much sense. I did like that he wasn't just plain green- it would have made him look too much like that OTHER gecko.... Especially with no hair this time.

I wouldn't care much if I as controlled and tried to kill my family as long as no one was hurt. Maybe the next time they see Shredder they'll adress that.(I wouldn't be happy about it but I wouldn't be down in the dumps, I'd be mad at Shredder which is what they'll probably do)

Cool and fun filled episode. I like how Mikey finally says Cowabunga in this series. The skating completion had a lot of fun filled action especially when the outer turtles came to the rescue in the Shell-raiser.

Very good episode and Mikey was great in it. Meeting Mondo Gecko was fun for him and Casey. The stakeboarding competition was neat; many of the villains got a cameo. At the end Mikey was the winner. I think Xever is Brazilian because he called Mikey "tartaruga" which is turtle in Portuguese.
His siblings came to rescue him and Casey in the Shellraiser and Mikey got the opportunity to introduce Mondo Gekco to his siblings.
Love the ending. Mikey finally says "Cowabunga" a phrase that I been missing to hear for a long time.

He is, he said Shredder found him in a prison in Brazil on a past episode, the one where he tells Raph about his past I believe.

The only thing I can think Mondo's real name is referencing is Metallica. Since his gecko was named Lars, he's probably named after Jason Newsted.

In the Mirage comics. There's a paperback of short stories done by the OG's called Shell Shock, one of which being the work of Eric Talbot, whose material has always had a heavy horror influence. On the intro/credits page of his entry it says something to the effect of "Thanks to The Misfits for the inspiration" & I've seen him draw villains that rock their trademark "Devil-lock" hair style, haha.

This was a great episode! It took me a while to realize that Mondo was being voiced by Movie Mikey. That was awesome to bring him in to voice the role. :tgrin:
The race to the death scene was the best, had you at the edge of your seat. Mondo's design was great, definitely fits the series. I laughed when Mikey finally came up with his nickname, and Mondo replies, "That name SUCKS!!" as he is about to attack them. :tlol::tlol::tlol:

First off yes, I’m glad they introduced Mondo Gecko into the series finally and I hope we do see other OT characters introduced into the story such as Mona Lisa, Ground-chuck, and Dirtbag. At the same time however I do agree with fans that feel this series is bringing in too many characters from the OT and not using the ones we have in the story already.
But then again this series is marketed to sell toys, so they are naturally going to bring in characters simply because they have a toy for it coming out; not because they have any real involvement in the story. In this case we have a character that has become a new ally of the Turtles rather then something that has joined the Shredder’s crew.
Mondo Gecko in this incarnation is voiced by Robby Rist, the voice of Mikey in 1990’s Ninja Turtles movie. Between him and Cory Feldman we only need Brian Tochi and Josh Pais as characters on this show and we’ll have a 1990’s cast reunion.
This version of Mondo Gecko is a blend of his OT and Archie Comic incarnations. In the OT he was a lizard who was mutated in the same goo that mutated the Turtles. He is found and grabbed by a man named Mr. X and raised into a life of crime before he meets Michelangelo.
In the Archie Comics, Mondo was formerly a human. While practicing with his metal band “Merciless Slaughter” in one of Shredder’s hideouts, he is hit with some mutagen which turns him into the last thing he touched, his pet gecko.
His appearance in this version also offers a more tragic side to the mutagen spill in the beginning of season 2. In the season two episode Mazes and Mutants we are introduced to one boy named Martin Milton also known as Sir Malachi, who was mutated into a humanoid house sparrow. Instinctively he retreats to the sewers, but there is never any talk about him having a family or anyone he misses because of his mutation. The only suggested thing was that he was lonely because had no one to play his role playing game with before he met the Turtles.
In Mondo’s story however, we was originally a human boy named Jason. He is also mutated in the mutagen fall and turns into a gecko. But tragically, because of his mutation his parents kick him out of the house. He is found by Xever who goes by the name of Mr. X and used in petty crimes as an errand boy, teaching him that it’s every mutant for himself. And that is a lesson he takes to heart…at least until he meets Mikey.
This episode is certainly a popcorn episode as it didn’t really focus on the larger story of the series. But it does develop Casey’s relationship with Mikey, perhaps we may see a Casey and Leo episode in the future as well.
I enjoyed the story for what it was, and liked the fact that Mikey did acknowledge some responsibility for Mondo's mutation. The next time we see Mondo he will likely be with the Mutanimal’s having been introduced to them sometime off screen. What was weird is that we majority of the rogue gallery watching the Death Race take place and cheering it on. And it’s a total whose who among villains. But how do they all conveniently know about this event and why is Xever having an extreme racing event instead of turning Casey and Mikey over to the Shredder. The way things have been set up it seems as though that Xever had been picking up various mutation orphans and unfortunates. Though I can careless if we see any others besides mondo, unless maybe Spiderbites and Snakeweed are part of Xever's crew, Also these 'Death Races" appear to have been going on for some time as well, so when did Xever get this arena built? The only plausible time frame would have been the months the Kraang had taken over the city and even that is a stretch. So all in all this episode was a good distraction from the events in the next episode.
