I think my favorite is IDW's, which feels like a good mixture of the classic design updated.

I like the Archie, Fred Wolf, and IDW design, Really hard to pick which one.
the thing is, Fred Wolf and IDW have similar origins, Except for Archie.
Though I personally like the Archie version better, Cause at least he had a Girlfriend, Who stayed with him even after the Mutation.
It's too bad he gets killed off iwhen he joined the Mutanimals.

I like the Nick design.

The original Playmates toy is my favorite. Neither the OT or Archie books have him looking exactly like that, so I view it as another design. Fresh offa Ryan Brown's paper, no less.

I went with the IDW design, Cause he looked the most humanoid looking in that.

You know I just realized Nick's Mondo is the only one not wearing a yellow shirt. That's why he seems so different, that and no hair. The others were all dressed in yellow.

I agree. I usually like the original Playmates design.... and then get kinda disappointed when the cartoon goes some other route.
I do believe the Nick show is backwards, the characters appear in the show first and toys are made of them months or even waves later. And TMNT feet aside, so far the figures haven't been TOO different from how they look like on the show. Compare this to how the figures of Irma and General Traag came out in the older toyline...

I'll go with the Archie one. Not a departure from the toy or cartoon (I dunno which one came first) But streamlined and he's kinda got that 80's 90's hair metal thing going on with his hair do there.

I just realized something interesting about the character. Back in the 90s his comic book counterpart started out human, while the cartoon version started out as a lizard. Now it's the other way around.

Definitely IDW. The design is great and I love how closely he resembles day geckos. Even his hands and eyebrows are blue :3
Dat emo hair xD

Maybe I should elaborate on my choice, when I said "Ben Bates' rendition, I meant only his rendition. All the other IDW artists draw him with hair, which annoys the hell out of me, Ben Bates fixes that by making spines instead which fits a lizard better.
Literally other design rubs me the wrong way, the toy/FW/Archie look seemed overdesigned to me, like Ryan Brown got a little too creative one day. Concept art of the Nick design seemed fine but when it finalised, I don't know why but for some reason it didn't seem to work that well, maybe it's just that I thoguht he was annoying in general that made me dislike the design (at least there's no hair on him though).

Mondo has always been a personal favorite of mine, but I really love his look in IDW. It sort of takes the best of all the previous versions and mixes them together. Nick's looked okay, but a little TOO "gecko" for me- that, and he reminds me too much of the Geico one, which is a little annoying.

Its hard to believe a 90's era stoner, rocker, skateboarding kid became the basis for a character that is still used today. Mondo is like a dated 90's stereotype himself.
Seems like Poochy from The Simpsons.

Stereotype? Dude, there are kids who are still like that TODAY. Skater culture hasn't died or faded out, it's still pretty much the same as it's always been. Just read any random skateboard magazine, and you'll see the same kind of folks as you'd have seen back in the 80's. And they even still pretty much talk like that, from the interviews I've read. Couple of TV shows have featured modern skater culture, too- and it apparently hasn't changed much. Neither have the guys you see on the X-Games. The wardrobes might have evolved (slightly), but not much else has.

Yeah I've already made the Poochy comparison myself. If Mondo is so easily compared to joke about focus testing, then he probably isn't a character that should have been brought back.
Like many of the characters created for the old toyline, he wasn't very interesting in either the cartoon or the comic, it's more likely he was brought back out nostalgia for the toy rather than how he was potrayed. I mean the least awful potrayal of him (IDW) is only redeemable due to some decent interaction with Mutagen Man, the most awful (Nick) has him as the most annoying thing in that show I've seen so far and the other two just has him as kind of bland or forgettable.
Mondo Gecko (alongside the Punk Frogs) should have been left in the past.

Haha! Really? He's nothing like the Geico gecko. He talks different and looks different and acts different. Is it cuz he's so small compared to everyone else?

Now I'm not sure about the Cowabunga slang, but there are still tons of sk8ers nowadays.

Definitely the original toon version for me, it looks the most like the original toy, with Archie 2nd. Those other versions look too plain and boring, this is Mondo Gecko, the wacky stoner lizard.
