After reading all the crazy stories of what goes on at Walmart and the McDonald's Playplace, I decided to put this forum up, curious of what kind of responses would come up.

Seriously, has anything cool and/or funny come up?

I wasn't working at the time, but apparently two weeks ago some guy climbed up the outside of the dining hall building to reach the second floor balcony so that he could sneak in for free (meal check is downstairs)... And then, when caught, claimed that he was inspecting the patio furniture. In the rain.

Sadly I think when I was working retail there were more annoying/frustrating things than strange, cool, or funny.

Off the top of my head...

The women with the big, highly teased hair and heavy make-up. Enough so that I some time later asked a coworker in a neighboring department if she'd seen the clown and she knew exactly who I meant.

We were once informed that the store/mall was expecting shoppers who were European tourists from a cruise ship... and I guess for some reason their bus was stopping at our mall to shop. I know the mall is conveniently near I-95 and all that, but ok, a little random. I guess no sales tax is appealing even to international tourists. And maybe our prices were better? Either way, didn't see too many, but a couple people went home with new jeans.

Then there was the lady who held up a couple of the cashiers. Which itself is bad of course, but she'd been seen around the store wearing this rather odd blue veil over her face. If she was trying to pull that off as a religious/cultural thing, she was doing a terrible job at it. No only was it an odd blue you normally would not see, but the rest of her attire was entirely casual and kinda sloppy. She got away unfortunately, but I'd thought that I bet if she tries it at another store she'll likewise wear an odd veil, OR be stupid enough to wear the same one -- she DID. And got caught that time.

That I'm aware of? Having sex with my wife there way after closing. :tgrin: That was at two of my jobs. I kinda doubt anything stranger than that ever happened at either of those places.

I believe there was some fooling around at Wendy's, though I never witnessed any, and sadly was never really a part of. Actually, now that I think about it, I remember this one Mexican kid was asking me if I wanted to get high, so I thought I'd humor him by doing my impression of the Towlie character from South Park. Unfortunately, the manager on duty didn't find it amusing. Then again, most of the managers there could've used a g*d-d*mn chill pill.

Well this was several years ago, but when I worked at a Papa Johns, I got a phone order from a guy at the dorms of the local college, for a half pepperoni and half hamburger pizza. Being that there were onky three of us in the store, I just made it myself while the manager was busy with other things, and the other employee(my hubby) was cleaning. I cut and boxed it, and sent it out with the first driver to arrive.

A half hour later I get a call from the SAME guy saying it was made wrong. I asked him what was wrong with it, and he said he had ordered half pepperoni half hamburger, but GOT hakf hamburger and half pepperoni! I was so flabbergasted that I had to put him on hold for a moment, and then laughed my butt off while I had him on hold. The manager and my other half asked what was so funny, so I told them. Then I asked what he wanted me to do. He took the call himself, and told the guy to turn it around and see if that fixed it. It did. Turns out, the guy had been high as a kite when he ordered and when it got there. We all had a good laugh over that one, and we STILL talk about the "backwards pizza"!!

I heard from a friend (who was working at Mc D´s) a very awesome story.

Late at night:
A guy ordered a cheeseburger at the drive in, drove to the pay desk and suddenly a guy in a monkey costume jumped out of the dark, stole the paperbag and ran away.
(It was Halloween, but it´s pretty weird cause it´s very unpopular here)

We were all evacuated one day because someone saw a car pull up outside the building, a guy got out, chained a suitcase to an under-croft grating and then got back in the car and drove off.

The cops came and inspected the case and when they opened it, it was full of clothes and shoes etc. Turns out, it belonged to a homeless guy who had some business to take care of somewhere, so he chained his personal effects to our building to keep them safe.

My workplace almost got raided by police because someone reported that a building in our complex was involved in a prostitution ring.

For the record, we aren't, but that was amusing.

One of my co-workers, since we work late nights and the manager leaves at 5:00 PM, would wear shorts under his jeans and shed the jeans around 6-7 pm. One night, while he was out of the room I took his pants and hid them under the floor tiles in a trough where they run the cabling for the servers and everything we have on hand. He didn't notice they were gone for a month, and then only because I got "greedy" and took a 2nd pair and hid them as well. And at one point his personal keyboard he felt he had to bring with him to use....but that got resolved because he went to our manager and my supervisor denied knowledge but told me to "un-hide" it.

Did I mention he used to prank people all the time? Put scotch tape on the bottom of mice so they didn't work. Unplugged peoples PC while they were working. Same with mice and keyboards. All sorts of little annoying things. He was asking for it.

I have too many to list as I work at a public library and we get all the crazies. Seriously, we deal with lunatics on a regular basis. We had to call the cops on this lady who wouldn't leave the elevator and by the time they came she was sprawled out on the ground screaming some prayer.

Another time when this homeless lady with a beard started asking me to look up books that I knew didn't exist but I tried to help her anyway since she insisted. She had a sleeping bag on her back and she carried a children's doll. When I couldn't help her anymore, she went into the kid's corner and started to read to the doll. Then the doll fell over and she slammed the book down like "You don't like this!?" then called it quits.

Another time the library was closed and me and another part-timer had to check in the book drop books and it was just us too in the entire building and out of nowhere we heard a huge slam. It was fitting because we had just finished telling creepy ghost stories to each other--she believes in them. She had a really crazy experience. So when that happened, she turned to me eyes wide then we quickly wrapped up what we were doing and went home lol. She's like we gots to get **** out! Oh, and our library was built on an old funeral home too. Apparently some child's spirit lives in the library.

I have a bunch more but I've already written too much.

Grocery stores are pretty much made for weird sh*t, so I saw a ton when I worked there as a teenager.

One day a dude actually sh*t his pants and walked all over the store with the sh*t running down his legs onto the floor. The best part of this was the reaction from my manager, who ended up being the one to clean it up, because it was so early in the morning that there weren't any stock kids to handle it.

I worked as a scan-coordinator for nearly my entire time there, which basically meant I spent my days writing raps about this forum (http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/showthread.php?t=17155&highlight=drome) and playing PSP games at all types of ungodly hours. I'd often be the only one in the store, or sometimes the (absolutely insane) night crew and/or opening managers would be around. The night crew was full of dirt bags, which led to an insane amount of off the wall bullsh*t, including dudes dumping entire skids of product down the trash chute to avoid work, selling indian cigarettes (a huge crime in Canada) out the back loading bay, shooting potato canons at passing cars in the parking lot, and even letting a squirrel into the store to try and get the place shut down on health code violations.

I pretty much made my hours as I saw fit, so nobody ever knew when I'd be around and my office often turned into a kind of hangout or hideaway when I wasn't there. I was supposed to lock it, but I told a few people I was friends with/liked that I hide a key in the locker room. This meant I walked in on some real weird sh*t, including a few of the younger cashiers involved in various sexual acts, one of the produce guys sleeping under my desk and once I walked in on a friend of mine (also in produce and was incredibly f*cking weird) wrapping wires from the server rack AROUND HIS BALLS and jerking off into a cup.

I'll also always remember one of the produce managers (produce has the best people for some reason) getting to work super early and deciding to take a nap in an empty watermelon bin. He made me put the lid on it so he wouldn't get caught if the manager came in early. I totally forgot he was in there a few hours later, when the store was open, and when I went upstairs his opening part-timer had wheeled the bin out onto the floor. I remember scrambling to tell him to return it to the back room while I distracted the manager with some bullsh*t. Dude didn't get caught and bought me a coffee every morning we worked together after that.

The kid who kicked his shoe at one of the grouchy old customers. The old man who tried to return what looked like composted fruit. The weird kid who tried to "Prince of Persia" the stairwell wall and absolutely f*cked himself up. The time the roof caved in on the managers head in the office. The old lady who tried to shoplift almost every single day. The whacked out cookie reps who got in a brawl over designated shelf space. The amount of homeless/psychotic people who wandered in off the street and needed to be forced out by police. I could probably go on with this ****, but I'll stop there.

I worked at a Mexican restaurant when I was 16 and one our line cooks was moonlighting as a meth cook...Which led to a DEA bust in the parking lot. That was "entertaining" to say the least. Kind of a "Welcome to the real world, kid" moment.

Sold shoes to a legitimate pimp at Foot Locker.

Some nuclear pissed off woman set her ex-husband's car on fire in the parking lot, also Foot Locker.

Every Air Jordan release during my tenure at, you guessed it, Foot Locker.

Mall jobs (like grocery stores) are total bullsh*t magnets just from the sheer number of people.

(I kinda wanna put this stuff in a "Top 10" on Youtube LOL)

Nothing happened to me because I don't have a job yet, but I'll never forget the story Dad told me when he had a repair job with his friend, Bob. Bob had went up into the "attic" to help with the repairs, while Dad went into the bathroom. A few minutes later, Bob went crashing through the roof and lands right in the sink! With Bob in pain and possibly hurt bad, Dad has the audacity to state:

"You're too old to learn how to fly, Bob."

One time when I was a baby at my job working in a bank branch one of my coworkers accidentally triggered the silent alarm and then hung up on security when they called to check on us.

One of the tellers noticed police cars surrounding the building and when I went to stand up and look, I turned to face the business end of a semiautomatic rifle and a cop in swat gear.

There was a lot of explaining that had to be done.

Heh, another one of my former jobs, I was doing graveyard shift in a gas station convenience store, and about 4 AM, I got "robbed" by a guy who in retrospect must've been f***ed up on crack. HUGE black guy (6'6+, about 325 lbs maybe) comes in, says nothing, and puts a sucker on the counter with some change for me to ring up. When the drawer opens, he tries to shove his huge ham-hands in the register to grab the cash. So I tried to slam the drawer closed on him (didn't work- he barely even blinked).

So I grab the "attitude adjuster" from under the counter (A sawed-off shovel handle I'd found in the parking lot a few weeks earlier) and proceeded to hit him over the arms and chest with it. He just pulls out a small screwdriver and holds it up threateningly. Against my bigger stick and the fact that I'm only 5' and 100lbs but going Medieval on him already.... I look at his "weapon" as if he's nuts, and right about then it dawns on him that I'm NOT scared, just really pissed, so he just grabs a handful of cash and runs out.

I called the cops, my boss, and my hubby, in that order, and wait for them to show. All showed up about the same time, and I went through the usual round of answering questions, describing the guy, and dealing with finding out how much he got. The cops came back the next night and showed me some mug shots, and I ID'ed him almost instantly, due to the fact he had the same dazed, dumb look on his face in the photos. My hubby was there when the cops came the second night, and they asked him what he was doing there, so he told them he was keeping me company in case anything happened again. He was there all night, but nothing ever happened. So I ened up with a blurb in the newspaper about "hitting the robber with a wooden handle". I hated graveyard after that.....

If you've been in branch banks for long enough you'll be robbed. I've been in three real ones and the above fire drill fake one. Note passers were the majority but we did have a couple of kids run in and shout for everyone to get down and pray as they waved what turned out to be paintball guns around in our busy lobby.

They were bored and had watched some movie. They got caught cause one of them left their actual drivers license in their abandoned get away car a couple of blocks away.

That was the only really scary robbery I'd ever been in. I left that branch that afternoon and never worked grunt jobs again. Too much stress.

Heh, that wasn't the FIRST time we'd been "robbed", but most of the others were just teenagers grabbing beer cases and running out. And I've dealt with plenty of crazy customers, too. After a while, you just shrug it off, and laugh about it when it happens. Seen too many weirdos doing stupid crap to be fazed by it anymore. Like the guy who decided to steal a life-sized Jar-Jar statue that was being given away for a promotion when Phantom Menace first came out. He came in at night when there were only a couple of people in the entire store, barring the night stockers, and used bolt-cutters to cut the chain keeping it locked up to the display area. Took off with it, and was later caught, but WHY would anyone steal Jar-Jar?

I'd be so scared if I was robbed. But nobody's about to rob a public library. They try that I'll be like hey you want stuff, go ahead but you're limited to 50 items per check-out, please don't hurt me.

I had a couple death threats at work. One, from this guy who was rapping loudly at one of the computer so the librarian told him to leave, and when he did he walked past me (I didn't know what was going on) but since he passed me I smiled all friendly then looked away. Noticed he was still looking at me so I glance at him again and we both pause and he goes: "I'mma shoot you in the mouf!" I'm like :teek: "I just got here! Please don't." And then the librarian called the cops and the guy dipped. My boss was like "Get in the back! He might be getting his gun!"

The other one was kinda stupid. We didn't have a copy of Walker Texas Ranger so the guy told me I was gonna be sleeping with the fishes later. I'm like oh haha! And he's like no seriously I can't believe you don't have it; I'm Italian. I'm like oh, cool, I'm Scandinavian. And he's like "I have friends in high places." And at that time, I didn't understand that phrase (which is really sad; I thought he meant he had friends in heaven and they died) so I just looked at him all sad-like. And he nodded like "Yeah. I do. You better watch out." It was weiiiird.

OMG Marvel - you crazy, gurl! :o I totally would've just given him the money; my attitude is "I don't get paid enough to deal with crazy sh*t at work" - if someone wanted to rob my work, they can have what they want; my safety's more important.

That being said, sh*t like this is why I'm glad that I have minimal face-to-face contact with people in general at my job. So I'm fortunate enough not to have any bizarre stories like y'all.

LOL! Don't worry guys, I'm not like that ALL the time- just when someone REALLY asks for it. Blame it on my Irish temper and "Napoleon complex" attitude. Yes, I will cop to having one. (Slightly- it only shows when someone much bigger than me tries to act intimidating.)

But the guy had it coming, and it made me mad as heck that someone would pull that $h*t just because the person working happened to be "petite". Because he'd apparently done this before elsewhere, and had watched to see who was on duty that night. When the cops told me that, I was like, "Yeah, that figures. Try to pick on the short person!" I will fully admit to shaking like a leaf and totally freaking out while I was waiting for the cops and my boss to show up after it happened, though. Mostly from nerves and adrenaline, I think.

On a side-note, it taught me which side of the fight or flight response I fall on. Good to know, I guess.

I worked in a hotel for seven years as a porter and barman. I've seen things.

Here's probably the most disgusting one. I was just starting the bar shift in the morning, and when I was getting the float from the main desk I was told of a strange guest. Just after he had checked in and gone to his room, someone from the train station across the road popped in to say that someone had taken a crap in the middle of a carriage and to watch out for him. Too late, he had just got into his room. Then, in the wee hours of the morning the night porters had heard a voice asking for help around one of the corridors. They went round to find him wandering about naked, locked out of his room, so they let him back in. By the time I started my shift he had checked out.

Anyway, I was just getting the bar up and running when an older gent comes in, very well mannered and wearing a suit. I did think at the time that he had a wee bit of a wiff to him, but never put two and two together. He ordered a glass of coke and sat down on one of the comfy leather sofas at the far end of the room with it. Five or so minutes later my colleague Paul (porter) came through to tell me that he was the train sh*tter and not to serve him any more. Then on closer inspection, I realize that he's got a tissue in his hand which he is currently wiping over the arm of the seat he's on. We go over to see what he's doing, only to find that he's smeared his sh*t over the seat and over his glass. I asked to him leave, which he did with no fighting whatsoever. I then had to clean up the seat and the glass went in the bin. Yuck. I then went through to the public toilets to have a proper wash of my hands, only to find that he had also smeared his excrement all over the urinals. Left that for the cleaner though!

- Guy once walked out with a shopping trolley full of electrical items. The other staff only realized when a customer alerted them he'd walked out the door. Two of them rushed outside to catch him just as he was filling his car up. (He drove off with most of it)

- Burglars broked into the store during the night and stole most of the cigarettes and tobbaco products. The night staff were in the store but they were all upstairs in the canteen while this was happening.

- A Local drunkard got caught trying to steal booze and was dogpiled by most of the male staff before being shoved in lock-up behind the ATM until the police could collect him. I heard him outside the store shouting "Let me out!"

- Another alcoholic bought a bottle of vodka, went into the ladies' toilets to guzzle it and threw up all over the floor.

At my old retail job I used to have to cover the fitting room part of the time. (Ladies department, so it's almost always a wreck because fitting rooms are where humans go to stop being human.) The handicap stall/room is at the front, so most of the time we kept the racks in front of the door to it. Partly out of necessity due to space and partly out of discouraging able-bodied people from using it to 1) keep it reserved for those who actually NEED it and 2) keep able-bodied people from destroying it the way they destroy all the others. (If that one is a mountain of clothing - and dear god there were times it was - it's not like a handicapped customer has the option of just picking another room, ya know?)

Occasionally there would be rather bold customers who just shove the cart out of the way and help themselves to it. This one evening a group of four or five very loud women and a small child did so and just had a great old noisy time in there together.

Not only did they leave all the crap all over the place that they took in there, but the kid also went in with a big order of french fries in his hand.

Naturally by the time they came out it was a wreck AND there were french fries not only spilled all over the place but also ground into the carpet.

Fitting rooms can be such disgusting places. And I swear, if you buy a bathing suit...either do so at the start of the season when they're fresh and new on the racks or consider washing it in burning hot water when you get home.

All you guys are REALLY making me grateful for my job.

Weirdest thing I ever had happen was a full staff meeting in progress, a lady calls in on the conference room trying to get a different room. Our manager leaves the room to track down the room she's trying to call.

One of my teammates then tries flirting over the phone with the lady, asking her, "So... are you hot?"

Funny thing is, we all teased him about it but no one told the manager... including the lady on the phone, who just ignored him.

I know, it's nothing compared to MsMarvelDuckie clotheslining a giant with a wooden broom handle. It's all I've got, guys. :twink:

Jean hunt and leggings gear grind reminded me of one...

Once when I was working in the young men's department for a large clothing store this guy, who apparently was wearing odd leggings under his pants, decided that instead of taking the jeans to the fitting room to try on... he just took his pants off (leaving the leggins on) right there to try them on publicly.

Both the public pant fitting and man-leggings had me scratching my head. :tlol:

Being asked, "Oppai misete" by preschoolers nearly everyday and, "Do you play sex in your room" by junior high girls once a few years back...

Edit: Forgot to translate. Oppai = breasts. Misete = show me. So in other words, they're saying, "Show me your boobs", but with the intonation, it sounds more like a question, like "can you..."

I had a customer flipping out and getting aggressive because his Driver license was not a valid ID (he had an old license that's no longer valid as ID) when he was trying to pick up some Registered Mail. When I told him that he should have read the backside of the pick-up notice you get in the mail when there's a package to get, since it clearly stands that it's ID required (all registered mail is) and it even have a list over valid IDs, where it states only driver licenses after 1998 are valid as ID.

When he started to berate me, I simply told him he should have learned to read ahead, and he wouldn't be in this situation. he got so mad the threatened to file complaint, to which I couldn't hold it anymore and burst into laughter. I can't take customers like that serious. He left cursing while I was almost on the floor wheezing for air and the other girl that was on work with me was terrified off him cause he did get pretty aggressive and was almost 7 feet tall and just as wide.

Another customer I got in a heated talk with. We have four cash registers in my store, one for post services, one for lottery, one for horse races and the last for the store itself of course. now, if a person wants to bet on horses they have to pay cash cause we don't have a bank terminal on that cash register.

Usually when a customer wants to bet on horses and pay with a card, they have to take out money in the post section if the have the same bank that owns the postage or take out money from the main register. Which, if they have to take out money from the main register, they have to buy something, we are not a ATM, we're a store, so the system to not allow cash-out without any sale.

back in the day we usually bypassed it by scanning a plastic bag, and took it so that the customer did not pay for the bag, we took that on our own bill, cause we used to be nice like that. Used to, mind you. Not after this ******* had his knickers in a twist.

He was taking out 100kr for horse racing, so I scanned in a bag, and took cash-back on 100kr total, which means technically he's getting back 99kr, but we take that 1kr on out own bill and give him the full 100kr. Then he suddenly rants over loosing money and that we are not allowed to do that. In which I reply that that's the only way he'll get out money, either he'll have to buy something or we have to it like that.

I had to teaspoon feed him that he did not loose any money over it, where I asked how much he wanted out, he said "100kr", okay how much are there in the receipt? "99kr" Okay, now how much did I give you "100kr". he still didn't want to play ball, so i carefully said that next time he could take out to the airport (5 minutes drive) which is the closest ATM and take out money there, and I said it a lot less nicer then I wrote it.

in the end, we now take a 0.10kr as an extra for anyone that wants to take out money without a sale, all thanks to him.

Being asked, "Oppai misete" by preschoolers nearly everyday and, "Do you play sex in your room" by junior high girls once a few years back...

Edit: Forgot to translate. Oppai = breasts. Misete = show me. So in other words, they're saying, "Show me your boobs", but with the intonation, it sounds more like a question, like "can you..."
o.O The things kids will ask.

Reminded me of a really good one though...

A long time ago in a land park not so far away I spent most of my teens working during the summer as a counselor for a day camp.

In addition to the older adult head counselor there were four teen counselors, two girls (including me) and two guys.

Some of the little girls just adored these guys, esp one of them. (Not a bad looking guy, I quietly had a small thing for him myself one summer. lol) Fortunately he and the other guy were able to escape now and then and walk up to the small basketball court with some of the older kids. But once they came back, some of these kids, esp a few girls, just wanted to be right there by this guy's side.

So this one day he and some of the older kids had just returned to the pavilion from playing basketball and he sits down at the picnic table in the shade opposite me. There is of course a small swarm of kids glad to see him back. I'm there at the table cleaning up the mess of board games.

Was pretty hot out if I recall. He either stretched or was trying to fan his shirt to cool off, causing his shirt to lift up a little.

This one little girl, one in particular who kind of fawned over him, noticing the trail of hair on his stomach straight up boldly asks him, like it's the most normal question in the world, that if having hair there means you have hair "down there," too.

Poor guy was speechless. (Hey, I know, lets all talk about his junk! lol) She then looked right at me and repeated the question to me.

I just looked at her and told her, "I don't think that's any of your business." But inside I was dying laughing. Luckily that shut her up.

He shall remain nameless on the off chance he's a Turtles fan and shows up here - in that case I'm sorry for telling, but it still gives me a laugh to this day. :tlol:

Looking back over the years I've been glad I handled it so well and simply at that age... these days, I can't help but think what would happen if someone said a simple yes and then the kid repeats their newly learned information to the parent. >.<

Hey, Duckie, may I use this for a chapter in Tales of a Pizza Delivery Boy? I just think it would be funny though I'll change it up for the chapter itself if you give me permission.

As for funny stuff, I wasn't around for it, but apparently a couple was in the Writing Center where I worked and decided to have an impromptu make out session. When I heard about it, I started cracking up laughing and wishing that I had been there. I would have said, "This is a Writing Center, not a hotel!"

I almost stung myself with a used needle that was among the re-vendable bottles, that was pretty freaky. People throw the nastiest stuff among their bottles before we got a re-vending machine. Old beer cans and bottles filled with cigarettes and smelled like piss...

Whoa. That would scare me, CK. Glad you didn't sting yourself. But it doesn't surprise me that people would do that either.

Oh, by all means, use it exactly as is if you want! I'm kind of flattered that you'd want to use that in your story. I haven't read it in quite a while since I've been so busy with my own tales(goodness I have SO many to catch up on) but I'd be really curious to see how you play that out. PM me if you need any more details. This was just the short version.

I think what you posted is good enough, though I'll change it up and have it be where it happens while he's on his route to deliver the pizza and the guy confronts him before he leaves. Thanks for letting me use it. Goodness knows I need some filler to use since we now know new episodes won't be until August. Gah! So mad right now about that!
