Just thought I'd share this with my fellow Shellheads.

So, I'm at work ringing up a young woman who had two young boys with her. The oldest one was carrying a Snakeweed action figure and he comes up to me, showing me his toy.

BOY: Do you know who this is?

ME: Oh, cool! Snakeweed!

BOY: *eyes grow large* How do you know who he is?!?!

ME: *puts hand on hip and smirks* What? You think you're the only one who watches Ninja Turtles?

The mother starts laughing and the kid is looking back and forth in total confusion.

MOTHER: It's true, honey. I used to watch Ninja Turtles a long time ago, too.

ME: Oh yeah. Heck, I was a fan before you were even born.

BOY: You don't know when I was born!

ME: No, but trust me on this...

And apparently the family owns the original movies from the 90s (I had told her about the Mondo Gecko episode and how Robbie Rist voiced him) and she asked me if the new movie was appropriate for kids. I advised her to wait till her kids were a little older since there was a lot of cursing and innuendos...plus she thought the Transformers movies were boring, so I figured she could wait.

This is one of the reasons I love the franchise so much. It's been 30 years since the Ninja Turtles first came on the scene and they're still so loved and popular to this day. It's just so much fun and great to see younger people enjoying it. Also makes me wonder how this generation will revise the Turtles when they're old enough to.

"You don't know when I was born!"

That's hilariously adorable.

Nice. Every once in a blue moon I have similar interactions with kids in stores. Always puts a huge smile on my face. :)

Haha, that is so cute! :D When these kids figure out someday how old the Turtles are - when the newest lifelong fans are old enough to care to find out those details - they are going to be floored. :tlol:

Not Turtles, but reminds me of chatting with the young son of a couple I had worked for after he and his mother had come back to the shop after seeing the first Transformers movie. Had a toy Optimus Prime in his hands and was kind of fascinated that Transformers were originally around when I was a kid, and somewhere I had a couple old ones in my attic.

A Snakeweed fan huh. That's pretty rare (even the episodes he's in). Cool.

A couple winters ago I had a cute moment with this little kid who saw me wearing my Michelangelo hat in the grocery store. He waved and said "Hi, Ninja Turtle!"
