I know some bash it, but I never thought it was awful. There were definitely things that needed work but in some areas I thought were improved. I liked how it became a little more serious but it wasn't completely devoid of humor. It still had a couple funny moments but I missed the 4th wall jokes. I actually liked Dregg as one of the villains, however I didn't think it was necessary to replace Shredder and Krang with Dregg. I could understand if Shredder and Krang either died or were eternally imprisoned, I could see it happening, but Shredder and Krang were still around and even interacted with Dregg. I felt if they needed Dregg to be the main villain, Shredder and Krang either should have died or get stuck and or imprisoned somehow.

Everyone even Shredder became more threatning as Seasons 3-4 kind of made him a laughable villain, easily being beaten. Bebop and Rocksteady were less funny but they were more competent, but still dumb. I liked the Beserko character but felt it was a waste to not show him more often or his machine which was destroyed in one episode. It's strange that after Season 7 , Earth looked normal and then in Season 8 the sky turns red, which is similar but different to the post apocalyptic world in the episode "Shredderville" When I was young, I was like "What happened?! Did Shredder and Krang already take over the world? How did I miss that?!" 0_o

Anyways I'm wondering if any of you can tell me things that you liked/disliked about the Red Sky Seasons. I don't think it's as bad as everyone says. Definitely needed work though but still had a few good parts.

The thing with the "Red Sky" season was that I really didn't care much for Carter or Dregg. Oh, Jet McCabe or what ever his name was, he was an a-hole. The guys should have left him on that other planet they were transported to.

It brought us the Episode Split-second, and that made the seasons worth it alone. I've kinda been obsessed with Kronos ever since. Wish we saw more of him. Awesome back story. He was a bad guy to begin with but the turtles really Messed him up psychologically leaving him in that clock tower turning him into the mad man he is today.

I wish Season 8 at least got 13 episodes.

He did stay on the planet out of his own free will. "This is one outfit I WON'T get kicked out of!!" Carter didn't stop him.

I don't think I saw that episode, but I can check it out. I heard some of the best episodes came from the Red Sky Season. I liked Turtle Trek and the moral of the story in it. Wrath of the Rat King was decent, too.

Seasons 8 and 10 were both pretty good. Season 9 wasn't as good but still pretty solid. Also had the Split-Second episode, as mentioned.

The good? The Turtles getting a makeover in order to inject new life into a dying ship

The bad? All the abrupt changes, including new villains and a side-kick that nobody asked for(Carter).

You owe it to yourself to watch it. It's in season 9. The best episode of the red sky seasons.

I was like 9-10 years old in 1990-1991 when I first became a TMNT fan. It was the first movie that made me a fan, not the original cartoon. I came to like the cartoon after I saw the movie, but it still wasn't quite what I wanted. When I rediscovered the show in 1996, I was so impressed by what the show had become (the red sky era). The red sky style was EXACTLY what I was looking for five years earlier.

I think Red Sky had some good ideas but some just weren't executed well. I loved how they brought in the mutant prejudice issue much stronger in this season, added some emotional drama. I remember when I first got back into Turtles that I remembered Shredder blowing up Channel 6. That made an impact on me as a kid with his "I never bluff." I think the overall darker tone could have led to some interesting stories. Not that the ones we got weren't good but I see a lot more potential than what we received.

I will say I was not a fan of the secondary mutations or Carter in general. Not a huge fan of Lord Dregg either but Tony Jay's voice helped a lot to make him entertaining. I remember as a kid not liking April's apparent "distancing" from the turtles but as an adult not only does it make sense but I would have liked to have seen something done story wise with that.

Overall, I do like Red Sky just not as much as the other seasons as I see there could have been so much more done with it.

I like the Red Sky seasons. My signature quote is taken from one of the episodes. I saw season 8 when I was 8 and the first episode blew me away. I think Get Shredder was the best episode. Shredder was a threat for the first time in years, though he was still easily defeated by the Turtles. I saw seasons 9 and 10 in 1998 when I was 11. I thought those seasons had a good mix of action and drama with some comic relief.

Red sky isn't as good as I remembered it, but I think seasons 8 and 10 are still good. 9 was bad, but it had a few decent episodes. Dregg wasn't that bad (I liked him better in 10, though). 8 was probably the best season, as Carter wasn't around (I found him to be a bit annoying at times) and the Channel Six crew were still around.

I actually preferred red sky over the goofier earlier seasons when I was in my teens, but now I like both equally.

I agree with Ulisa that red sky had potential. I was expecting Shredder to cause more trouble in season 8 after Get Shredder. That didn't really happen. He spend a lot of time in the Hall of Science instead in that season. There could have been a fighting tournament or a gang war loosely based on events that happened in the Mirage Comics.

I enjoyed all the red sky episodes.

I actually liked the character Carter.

The 2003 episode Same As It Never Was always reminds me of Carter The Enforcer. I thought those episodes were alike.

Shredder did get to fight more, but he wasn't as big of a threat as he could have been. Also, I just saw Krang in his bubble walker? What even happened to his android body. Last time we saw it before the red sky seasons he was in it, and in "Get Shredder" from then on, he was in the bubble walker. I don't even recall him fighting the Turtles in the red sky seasons. Not that he fought THAT much to begin with, but I think it would have been cool if he had a chance to fight the Turtles or even Beserko or Dregg in his android body.

Did you finish the red skys seasons? My memory may be tricking me but isn't there an episode where they have to find the old technodrome and get some parts from krangs android body or something?

Yeah I did see the last episode Divide and Conquer where they needed Krang's android body, but it doesn't make much sense because in Shredder Triumphant, you see Krang's robot body being used by him and then when the red sky season starts you see him in his bubble walker. What happened to his android body? They were still on Earth in the episode Get Shredder and didn't make a portal to dimension x until later on and the android body was on Earth, but in Divide and Conquer they find it in Dimension X.

The series finale is where they go to the destroyed Technodrome and retrieve Krang's android body to defeat Lord Dregg with.

I must have stopped watching the show by this time because I have absolutely no memory of watching it as a kid, and I would certainly remember.
My initial TMNT phase ended when the credits rolled for Secret Of The Ooze  (no joke)

It has good and bad elements, I don't like Carter (and doubt I would have back then, I wasn't a Keno guy either) but it's cool it got a bit more serious.
I'd have been happy with giving Shredder and the established baddies some nuts as opposed to introducing Aliens but hey, what can you do?

I think by this time I was much more into Toxic Crusaders.

I far prefer Krang in his bubble walker. I guess I just like the concept of Krang literally being the "brains behind the operation". I don't really want to see Krang fighting the turtles. That's what Shredder, Rocksteady, and Bebop are for. I would've liked to have seen Baxter Stockman during season eight. I think him teaming up with Shredder, like the episode with the Rat King, would've made for a better episode than at least one of the H.A.V.O.C. episodes.

It just never made much sense to me for him to remain in the bubble walker when he still had his android body. I could understand if he'd use it once in a while when he was upgrading his body. I wish he fought them at least once in the red sky season. In some ways I kind of liked it that he fought rarely because it shows the mastermind who would only fight as a last resort. I see him similar to Emperor Palpatine and Shredder as Darth Vader, since both Shredder and Vader are the enforcers while Palpatine and Krang are the masterminds who only fight when they need to and would rather have others do the dirty work. Krang usually gave the Turtles a harder time than Shredder. I think the last time I saw him fight was in "Shredder Triumphant" where he very briefly fought Splinter. That was the episode before the red sky seasons.

There'd have to be a pretty good reason why Baxter would team up with Shredder. Last time I checked he hated Shredder and Krang as well as the Turtles for turning him into a fly to begin with. It would have been nice to see the other villains, like Baxter, Leatherhead, ect. Even General Tragg didn't get to really fight so much.

When I first saw the ending of Turtle Trek, I thought that Shredder had the Technodrome again, as it didn't seem that badly damaged at the time. Shredder, Krang, Bebop and Rocksteady weren't written out of the series well I think.

It didn't help that season nine was placed between seven and eight on the Irish channel RTE Two when nine and ten first aired in 1998. Also, when eight was first aired in 1995, Turtle Trek was never shown and was replaced with a repeat of Enter: Krakus.

The cartoon was then repeated from the beginning in the summer of 1995, so I assumed at the time that the show ended with Enter: Krakus. It was a surprise to see Turtle Trek and the two remaining seasons a few years later.

I actually got around to seeing Split Second and it was really good. I like how they tackled some psychological problems like what Kronos had However I don't remember the episode where Kronos before he was Kronos was tied up to a clock tower. I liked Dregg because he actually attempted to pretend to be good and label the Turtles as evil and it was working until he was exposed. Maybe some don't like Dregg because he wasn't Shredder or Krang.

I haven't watched Split-Second in years, but I agree that it was a great episode. Kronos was a good villain and he had an interesting backstory (his personality is a bit like the Joker's).

I liked Dregg as well. He was very cunning at times I thought, though I think the whole turning the world against the Turtles storyline in season 9 got boring after a few episodes. The three-parter in season 10 showed that he was a match for both the Turtles and Shredder/Krang (I liked the three-way battle between them). I think one of the reasons why people don't like Dregg is because he was introduced abruptly along with other abrupt changes in 9. He's a decent villain on subsequent rematches.

I would have liked if allies from season 8 and older seasons such as Usagi were used again, as it was sad that the Turtles seemed to be on their own against the world in season 9 (aside from April, Carter and Splinter).

All seven appearances of Shredder and Krang among the last 24 episodes were great. Split Second was well done. Dregg was not necessary at the end as it shows how Dregg was not needed to pull off a great late series episode full of character and dark tones in each those referenced. State of Shock as well was great. Probably 11/24 I really enjoyed. Most of the other 55% were lacking to me. If season 8's direction was kept I think it would have finished off much better.

He does remind me of the Joker. I actually thought he was voiced by Mark Hamil, who played the Joker in Batman, the animated series. Dregg was well done, had an awesome voice, was a big threat ect. Kronos should have been used more often. So should Beserko. In fact, I noticed this series actually had some decent villains but hardly ever used them, and didn't use some of the other villains that were cool, like Leatherhead or Baxter. Maybe if they didn't have those hulking mutations show up as often, show some of the other villains from the other seasons, showed less of Carter, showed more of Casey Jones and Usagi, showed more villains that appeared rarely like Beserko and Kronos ect. it could have been better.

At least Casey Jones was there but didn't appear as often. Usagi should have totally showed up. Maybe the Punk Frogs could have showed up. I always felt if Dregg was going to be the main villain, it would if Shredder and Krang were actually defeated i.e. imprisoned eternally or killed though. I could understand his transition of being the main villain after that.

I agree that State of Shock was great. Wesley Knight could have been used again. MegaVolt had an interesting backstory and April got some good character development. It was interesting to see the Turtles pretending to join MegaVolt as a way of finding out what his plan was. I liked that April had a proactive role in other Red Sky episodes as well such as Cyber-Turtles and A Turtle in Time.
