Huh, I donno. I liked Noji, she just didn't have absolutely anything to work with.
I guess Noji was deemed too old, gods forbid a woman over 40 is in a movie.

funnily enough, Brittany IRL is in her mid-30s, now granted she doesnt look it, but I'm curious to see how this goes given that Brian Tee, and her actually look like they could be a couple, or at least sibling....but he's her father.
Maybe the mutagen Shredder was exposed to in last film has reverse aging?

Same. Karai in other series stood toe to toe with Leonardo, his equal in both swordsmanship and hand to hand combat. I wanted to see that.
With all the villians making an appearance, plus the addition of Casey, I wonder how much screen time secondary villains like Karai will even get - I want to see her get treated well, but I would much rather the Turtles square off against Bebop and Rocksteady, than Karai, and more Foot.

I know the game reveals it in a journal entry, but that game deviates from the movie story and kept Sacks as Shredder.

No, it's not "officialy" confirmed. The producers will never admit it because this amounts to admit their mistakes on the first film. It's unthinkable from a marketing perspective. We can legitimately think that they rectify the shooting by these changes.

Overall all the recasting just seems like they are reshaping the movie across the board, honestly probably the best thing to do. They tried so late in the game with the first film that it makes sense that they'd take the opportunity to do it from the ground floor with this one.

Given that they are bringing in Bebop and Rocksteady, Krang, and Casey - all elements from previous scripts, and concept art that never saw fruition - its possible that they are just making the film they intended to make in the first place.

They're casting and recasting parts that didn't matter if they were recast or not. The first actors in these roles were mostly fine, what little we saw of them.
It's not a matter of casting, idiots in charge of this movie. It's a matter of how poorly you utilized the actors and characters in your sh*t first movie.
Recasting just because will do nothing to help the awful script you're probably writing.

I think they are aiming to make it like the 80s cartoon with dashes of the Nick cartoon. The most popular versions of TMNT. They're casting to fit what they're trying to do with the story as opposed to casting to fill a role really quick, like the previous Shredder for example.

So how does Noji feel about this? I would be pissed if I was her.
I find interesting how this movie series keeps recasting characters. First the voice actors for Leo and Splinter were changed, then the movie was reshot to make Sacks and Shredder seperate characters, then the actor who played Shredder there was replaced for this one, Baxter made a brief cameo but the actor who played him was replaced and now there's this. I find it amusing that the casting that received the most negative response, Fox as April, is pretty much the only thing that hasn't been subject to change...

Their first mistake.
They're casting to fit what they're trying to do with the story as opposed to casting to fill a role really quick, like the previous Shredder for example.
That's very false, according to Bryan Fuller himself, who said they're "trying to fit [Casey Jones] into the story".
Which just means they're throwing as many beloved characters into it as they possibly can(throwing in Bebop, Rocksteady, Casey Jones, Shredder, Karai, Baxter Stockman, and now possibly Krang proves that), just to further appeal to nostalgia and trick people into seeing it.
Again.
And yeah, if this was any other movie or if the first one didn't exist at all or was at all good in anyway, I'd be super friggin excited.
So how does Noji feel about this? I would be pissed if I was her.
She seemed genuinely excited to be in it, and what little I saw of her was decent. Just a shame she had next to goddamn nothing to work off and the movie itself was so bad.
I find it amusing that the casting that received the most negative response, Fox as April, is pretty much the only thing that hasn't been subject to change...
Megan Fox in a blonde school girl outfit.
That's why she's still around. That's the only reason.

please no. i hated that origin...whoever came up with that needs their head checked - variations on their origin, fine. even IDW changed it up. but straight up making them another race from another planet - negating the ooze factor. it makes me mad just thinking about it.
So how does Noji feel about this? I would be pissed if I was her.
Noji was one of the more vocal actors on the first film, that voiced her love of working on the film. so its a shame they replaced her. she didnt have much to work with, and they replaced what should have been a sword for a hand gun, delegating her character to just another goon. shame.

Not necessarily. Like it or not it's what most people think of when they think TMNT. I guess it sucks if you don't like that version but not so much for probably most of the general audience.
And I don't see your point with the quote. They added in characters and they are casting/recasting actors to fit what they want to do. It's as simple as that. Liking the story is a whole other thing.
"Trick people into seeing it"? Lmao. Yeah I don't think it's some weird conspiracy like that. If people like what they see and want to check it out then cool, they can!

According to Deadline, Karai will be Shredder's (Mike Tee) daughter in this film.
Brittany Ishibashi is suiting up for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, Dave Green’s live-action sequel to last year’s hit reboot. She will play Shredder’s daughter Karai in the Paramount Pictures feature from Gama Entertainment Partners and Nickelodeon Movies.

Karai's origins are never alluded to in the first movie, but there have been several variations of them over the years.

I'm guessing that the Shredder in the last movie might have been her grandfather.

In the movie, Splinter is not Hamato Yoshi or his pet rat. So Oroku Saki without Hamato Yoshi is pretty useless. The initial story is founded on the Saki/Yoshi relationship.

Last time they had a corner to get themselves out of (American Caucasian Shredder), there was at least one possible solution that would have worked and provided a good movie (Utrom Shredder).
But nah, they made a bad situation worse. Caucasian Shredder would have been far preferable...

Or they could have done their own thing within the confines of the lore and not attempted to cash in on the nostalgia of people who couldn't care less either way.

"Trying to fit characters in" to a pre-determined story by committee that they probably ripped off again is not the way to go about making a good movie or writing a good script.

So that makes it okay for Platinum Dunes to do it?
Just because it's happened before doesn't mean PD HAD to do it as well.
They could have chosen the right way of doing things, instead of the wrong way.
Or hell Paramount could have just not given it to Platinum Dunes/Michael Bay in the first place. That would have helped IMMENSELY.

No offense to this women or anything, but just makes me wonder why and what the point is.
I don't think she'd necessarily be pissed, it's Hollywood and it's acting. It happens. Often.
But kinda sucks though from the standpoint that Asians don't get nearly as many roles as white and black actors do. Hope maybe it was Noji's own choice to bail out or she simply had another, conflicting offer.
Had hoped she'd be back though, she has a more powerful look to her for playing Karai than this new girl imo. Curious how they plan on pulling off the Shredder's daughter thing considering the ages of the actors. Hm. Maybe the new guy will be her brother and Shredder is dad to both? (But that would probably make too much sense.)
(I swear, if they do all this but Pete doesn't voice Leo I'm prob gonna be kinda hating on them for that, just heads up fyi.)

Must echo the "please no." In particular, I hated the end of that script. I get they were trying to end with emotional impact, but it was not in a good way; rather heart breaking and I question any claimed fandom of the writers because I just can't see how any legit fan would want that for the Turtles.

Yeah, if this wasn't her choice I feel really bad for her, given how jazzed she was for the opportunity. I feel like she would have made a fine Karai had she been given anything to do other than stand around.
Good look, good voice, commanding presence. All there, barely scratching the surface, trying to fight its way out of a horrible script.

Last time they had a corner to get themselves out of (American Caucasian Shredder), there was at least one possible solution that would have worked and provided a good movie (Utrom Shredder).
But nah, they made a bad situation worse. Caucasian Shredder would have been far preferable... Well, the difference is that they figured out how badly they messed up Shredder when production was over, so they had to do last-minute re-shoots, which is why the movie was so sloppy. Here, they had time to write a complete script.
Honest to god, this movie's casting/set photos/other information is pretty great so far. It hasn't done anything to piss off the fans yet, besides keeping Megan Fox, we just have the reputation of the first movie. It makes me wonder if they're giving it a new feel, which I'm fine with. New director, new cast, same Turtles we love. Only reason why Fox wasn't recast was probably because of her 3-picture deal.
Its really no surprise that certain key characters were recast, Remember, Secret of the Ooze recast April and Shredder.
April didn't want to return so they had to recast her, and Shredder was just a body double.
The thing is, Karai WASN'T a big character in the first movie, and it makes me wonder if they're just blowing away their budget on big-named actors. Like, I get the Johnny as Leo thing. He wasn't a good Leo, but he WAS in the movie for a long time. But having someone like Whoopi Goldberg, an actress who is going to demand a lot of money, be in there for 2-3 scenes? I feel like that's going to happen with Perry's Baxter Stockman. Honestly, they should do unnamed actors/actresses because that'll save the budget, which will mean more Turtles, and also, we'll be able to see the actors as "April, Casey, etc." instead of "Megan Fox poorly playing April."

This is why Jane Levy, who tested for the role, would have been perfect as a younger, just-starting-out April. 25 years old, but older than the Turtles and she gets this big Ninjas In New York story which blows up her career.

Honest to god, this movie's casting/set photos/other information is pretty great so far. It hasn't done anything to piss off the fans yet
Um... what? It's literally the sum of all fears, and pretty much the full, raw, unprocessed and unabashed antithesis of everything the TMNT are supposed to be, brought to life in the guise of a feature length toy commercial. And everything that is supposed to be making the "fans" excited is only doing the opposite to me ("look, kids! New vehicles!" "look, 40 year olds... Bebop! Rocksteady! Krang!" "look, kids, Casey, and he's the Arrow guy!").
As much as I hate to admit this... you're right. She does have a lot to do with the first film making so much money. *Shudders*
That's highly debatable. It wasn't like the Transformers movies took a hit when Megan departed between 2 and 3... and she has yet to carry a movie on her own yet (Jennifer's Body was a flop) or even necessarily help a movie as a supporting actress (Jonah Hex).
And it never ceases to amaze and/or frustrate me that somehow, some way, Megan Fox is what 90% of people out there point to as the main problem with these "films." I mean, is everyone high? Is there some new psychotic drug on the market I'm not aware of?

Honest to god, this movie's casting/set photos/other information is pretty great so far. It hasn't done anything to piss off the fans yet, besides keeping Megan Fox, we just have the reputation of the first movie. It makes me wonder if they're giving it a new feel, which I'm fine with. New director, new cast, same Turtles we love. Only reason why Fox wasn't recast was probably because of her 3-picture deal.

The Transformers sequels were only made because the first one was so successful. And who, pray tell, was in the first movie? Exactly. The fanbase for those movies was already set in stone after the first movie, most of Michael Bay's target audience saw it for her. My point still stands. She brought the star power to the 2014 TMNT movie, plus Michael Bay. Hard to admit, but it's true.
I never thought I'd ever say those words... *shudders some more*

First movie. 1990. Didn't feature any big hilariously ridiculous cars or huge action set pieces or any Bay crap like that.
Straight forward, down to earth, Ninja Turtles goodness with actual character and emotion and good writing.
Now, with today's effects, you could do something similar but bigger as far as fight scenes.
Not with giant mecha samurai and Shrek Hulks, but with cg enhancement and stunt doubles trained in high velocity fighting.
You know, Raid stuff, like we were promised but never got.

Even though we already established in another thread that the 1990 movie did have toys made for it. Not a lot, but they do exist. :P But thank you for reminding me of just how incredibly awesome the 1990 movie is. :tcool:
I agree though, another TMNT movie like the 1990 movie would be amazing to have. What I meant before was that I don't know how the TMNT couldn't be a toy commercial nowadays. They way they were depicted back in the 1990 movie wasn't really known by anyone outside of the comics back then, hence the lack of toys.

And The Dark Knight had toys made for it, wasn't a toy commercial. A critically and fan acclaimed film with one of the best performances of the past few decades in it.
Like I've said previously, all it would take to make a good Ninja Turtles movie that new and old fans as well as the general audience can enjoy is for someone to be a talented, actual fan of them. The GA doesn't give a f*ck one way or the other, clearly. They'll show up if it looks awesome enough. So therefore you give the fans some good stuff, bring in good writers and a director who understand and respect the source material and you're good to go.
Paramount didn't do that. They wanted a fast buck. Maybe in 10 or so years after this series has died its rightfully deserved death, we'll get that again.

The lack of toys for the 1990 movie is because Playmates felt it was too violent & didn't wanna be attached to it. The toys we got came during Secret Of The Oooze's era. So the first was in no way a toy commercial whatsoever. It was 100% free of toy sale influence besides the fact that the turtles being color coded was a Playmates thing.

I don't think I'm mentally equipped to deal with Shredder in tight leather pants, or the general silliness of armor-plated six-packs.
Seriously though - it all looks fairly ungainly, bland and clunky, and of course Karai has the requisite corset-esque brassiere and Bad Girl Boots. The Foot in the third photo has the plating on his armored six-pack buckling over, and the boot/knee/shin-guards are just waiting to get something caught in them as soon as he kicks someone (or tries to do a high kick in leather pants). Doesn't look like it'd be great for ease of movement and would be hotter than hell to fight in - but given the turd that were the last movie's designs, I suppose even armor made of empty eggshell cartons would look like an improvement by comparison. Once again though, for a movie that purports to have changed the Turtles to be more "realistic", this is another move on the part of the creative powers which fails to live up to the supposed mission statement.
From a costume design perspective, it's pretty boring - nothing that we haven't seen in plenty of other superhero and action movies already, certainly nothing distinctive, iconic or awe-inspiring. It's like they didn't know how to do Ninja, so they just combined one part Military, one part Biker and one part Generic Bad Guy, stirred lightly and left to simmer for 15 minutes.
And Karai is casually on her phone.

Obviously he's going to have his own "Shredder costume," but I'm glad we're actually seeing Shredder outside of his megatron suit. Who knows, maybe we'll actually get a standard Shredder with ACTUAL ARMOR. Although the Foot don't really look like "The Foot," they look MUCH better than the last movie, now that they have ninja equipment.

The fact that they actually attempted to make a ninja is a giant improvement. So there somewhat trying at least more then they did before. I really hope there is more to that Shredder outfit and he wont be unmasked 90% of the movie before he dons that CGI Megatron monstrosity.

Dude, relax  always so high-strung.
Also, I don't wanna annoy you IndigoErth, but it seems Knoxville is back (and Shalhoub). A few sites are reporting it & they were added on IMDb the same time as eight other smaller cast members. Could mean nothing at this point, but wouldn't suprise me.
the IMDB page for this film was created well before production was even underway - and a majority of the listings was simply ported from movie-1. and because it is editable by the general populace (or so I'm told, I dont use IMDB myself) the content is hard to verify until the film actually releases.
that said, given the amount of changes they are making in this film, I would not be surprised if they elected to boot Knoxville - the backlash his voice got with the critics (and fans alike), might just force them to give Pete a chance.

Not to mention the fact that Eastman is no longer involved, therefore, the original comics ended long ago.

- Both Shredder and Karai are Asians. I still have nightmares about the thoughts of white man Eric Sachs being Shredder. Thank the Gods of the universe we never had to deal with a white Shredder.
- They actually look like ninja's.

But more than likely they'll just release the movie and hope no one bothers to wonder why the Foot Clan suddenly changed from a paramilitary shadow organization with batons and guns to a ninja clan with swords and shuriken, or why Oroku Saki looks about 150 years younger than he did in the last movie and Karai suddenly looks like his sister... and why would anyone, bothering watching such a movie?

Brittany is a solid actress with more credits under her belt than Minae.
While its true Minae didn't have alot to play with in TMNT-1, but her performance was wooden, and her delivery was bland. I had a hard time believing the Foot actually respected her authority seeing as every time she was made to look foolish by her own actions, or that of her men.

Nah. Paramount wanted to remove all traces of the first film. Which meant firing all actors, and killing all Joe characters (except Cobra Commander, Zartan, Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes, whom they couldn't part with) that appeared in it.
Also, redesigning every visual element of the film that was crapped on with the first.

And Channing Tatum's Duke, though he supposedly died, it was left open enough for him to return. Dennis Quaid was removed because of Bruce Willis, there was no room for two old-ish Joes. Honestly apart from adding a Wayans, most of the cast was pretty spot on, though I hated what they did with Baroness, though she looked the part thoroughly.

I'm also going to go out on a limb here and say that the PD crew are getting way more props for these designs than they deserve - they shouldn't be congratulated for doing something that should've been done in the first place.
IMO, Shredder should stand out visually - even if he's on a mission surrounded by other Foot soldiers. There's really nothing that makes him look any different from the rest of the grunts. At the very least, he should be wearing spiked arm-guards/gauntlets no matter whether he's in "stealth mission gear" or not. There's nothing awe-inspiring, menacing or charismatic about this look.

I saw some things online about women bringing in cucumbers with them to 50 shades of grey showings, using them, and then leaving them in the seats.

I hate recasts, the only good thing about this is that it feels like they are taking a different direction with the movie. I also really like the new actors though I really liked the old actors for Shredder/Karai as well even if they had very brief appearances. Hell I don't think I even noticed Karai was that old looking in the movie until the comments made on this thread and I googled her.

Well, did they ever get a physical release? If not, that's a bad sign. If they can't be bothered releasing them physically, why should they be bothered with even finishing them?
Yes. 31 just got a limited release this year (previously only digital), and I think 32 was last year.
BUT.
Laird had already finished most of those issues already. The rest of the story, Issues 33-## have never even been started.
And that probably means they never will... at least not until Andrew Modeen blesses us with another awesome Volume conclusion. :tcool:
It does feel like they are going a "soft reboot" kind of way with the new movie, I like that. The 2014 movie wasn't that bad and I thought it was salvageable and from what I've seen of the new movie it seems like they are taking exactly the direction I wanted. I wonder how they'll retcon the horrible robot shredder from the final act though.

I went online (or rather opened a new browser) to see if this was true, and sadly there were several news outlets that reported this, and MORE.
my goodness, talk about a lack of self-control, and common decency. nobody, and I mean nobody wants to smell another person's funk in the middle of a theatre, in the middle of watching a movie.
what a world.

Same people that splooged all over everything about the first movie are the same people splooging all over everything about this movie.
I didn't splooge over the last movie, and I think these designs are pretty solid. Part of the reason is because the last movie's designs were so bad that we expect this one to continue to look like hairy nutsacks, but... well they don't. Usually it gets worse with the sequels.
I remember how much I hated the Transformers designs when I first saw them. The second, third, and fourth movie continues the awfulness. This one actually looks like they're trying to improve.

In my (admittedly short) time here, I have yet to see anyone who actually biffs off after they post "I'm out of here". They've always got to stick around for a few parting shots.

Far as I'm concerned, Jennifer's Body was one of the best horror movies of the past 20 years or so, and I have no problems with Megan Fox's acting in other films, either. Many producers, directors and script writers like to have very attractive women run along a beach in a bikini, while the less attractive actresses get to collect Oscars for sobbing quietly in a dark corner, wrapped in a Victorian dress. For obvious reasons.
Besides, any actor should know that regardless of how good or good-looking you are, you stand no chance if your co-stars are animals, children, puppets or cartoon characters.

Sorry, Turtles, your turtley origin and CGI can't save you from your heavy human influence that is easily trumped by the presence of Megan Fox...
