WWE's Sheamus is playing Rocksteady:

I'm betting they'll look life the concept art from the first movie.

It's okay, I guess. The best part is bebop's Mohawk color, it's a pretty striking purple. And Rocksteady's bowl cut hair.

I'd say a nose ring is a mandatory given, same as bebop's jacket, which looks rather unimpressive in the first picture.

Yeah, I been wanting to see Bebop and Rocksteady on the big screen for sometime, They have a lot of personality in them, Tokka & Rahzar were ok, But they didn't have much personally since they were just acting like babies the whole time.

(Sincerely hoping it is what I think it is)
Although these pictures were posted, now would be a good time to bring this up today. We already learned of who is playing Bebop before and now we get the big rhino man himself. Sheamus, a current performer in the World Wrestling Entertainment has been a three time world champion as well US champion and both a Royal Rumble and King of the Ring winner. The man is underrated and is brutal as a fighter in the ring. If there's any more information relating to the topic, feel free to post it as well as thoughts on the decision of picking him for the role.

I also find it a little ironic that both sequels have a WWE superstar. Super Shredder was portrayed by Kevin Nash and now this.

I'm honestly surprised that while Bebop is always the same, Rocksteady's heritage is different each time. If properly handled, the fights are going to be a shell of an awesome time.

Dude, that costume design has way more problems than just the ghastly mohawk (clearly inspired by Barney's pubic hair) and ugly septum jewelry.

I present to you Exhibit A: the leather chaps. Perhaps he and S&M Shredder like to go to the same bondage bars?

I also present Exhibit B: the chain wrapped around the spiked arm cuff, a bold move often seen by teens on VampireFreaks.com who can't yet tell where the line begins on "trying too hard".

Yeah, but it's BEBOP. Bebop's an idiot who probably WOULD dress in leather chaps and chained spiked arm cuffs because it makes him look tough. It's not like his fashion in the OT was any better... or the Tron suit from Nick. I think his wardrobe from IDW is the closest thing to normal we've ever seen him in.

Why the negativity? This is awesome. If you're still butthurt that we didn't get the Mirage inspired movie then I'm sorry but you need to get over it. I was pretty bummed too after Laird had promised us an amazing new movie and Viacom changed everything. But after fan outcry they did change the horrible plans for the 2014 movie and they ended up making a decent movie that is easily redeemable. Sure it isn't the Mirage film we wanted but it's taking it in a new fun direction. Yeah they're going for heavy OT influence but is that really a bad thing? It's something different and new and it's interesting to see where they take the franchise since it's something totally different than what we expect, they can go sci-fi heavy with these films. I'm totally expecting the technodrome in the third movie and crazy action, just fun movies. Say what you want but I prefer this over the more traditional 2007 snooze fest movie we got.

It's not the fact that it wasn't Mirage inspired that people are upset. It's the fact that this movie screwed up in every possible sense. They couldn't even get the origin story right, for goodness sakes! The Turtles deserve a better movie, one without the involvement of Michael Bay and Platnium Dunes.

It's not a case that it's a Fred Wolf-esque movie which is a big assumption based them using something superficial ripped right from there.

After all there's still Karai and human Foot and a Casey that I'm sure wont want to "break something" which makes this a patchwork of influences even if it's only surface level. It's just a case that it flat-out doesn't look good.

Yeah, I don't get it either, Sure there are fans of other iterations, They just cant seem to let it go, If they are catering to one group of fans, Then they should let it be, Besides they can continue enjoying there favorite version of TMNT all they want, Being a child of the 80s, I grew up with 80s Fred Wolf TMNT, and it brings joy, How much they are taking some of its influence in the sequel.

I think you're missing the point. It's not the fact that it's based on any particular version. It's the fact that the movie was garbage. The reviews from critics proved it, and the divisive fan opinion in the TMNT community is proving it. It's not all that hard to understand, IMO.

I don't care what they do so long as it's written well & looks good. They could include Venus & Neutrinos for all I care, whether or not it works falls on the creative team's shoulders.

That is why we (we meaning those of us who don't necessarily love the Fred Wolfisms) can love IDW & Nick despite their heavy OT influence- they do it right. These guys are not capable of making bad things good, in fact, they make good things bad.

The movie definitely screwed somethings up but it's far from the train wreck fans make it out to be. Fans had already judged the movie before filming even began. And they got the origin story wrong? You mean the story that has been pretty much different in most TMNT incarnations? And the most popular incarnation of said origin is the one that barely resembles the original one?

You're being hypocritical with that train of thought. It's taking elements from what made the turtles popular in the first place. If you don't want them to cater to one group of fans then it should be an original IP that has nothing to do with the turtles. This is as much pandering to the OT fans as a Mirage movie is pandering to comic book fans. Also the few things the movie tried to be original about were the things they were most criticized about.

They think garbage like The Big Bang Theory is a quality representation of geek culture when it's more or less minstrel for comic book fans. We're a joke to them, & that's why modern comic films are made for the jocks. We don't matter.

Of course, why wouldn't we? When has a sequel to a film that got a majority of negative reviews ever turned out good or even better than the previous film? Usually they're just as bad, if not worse, than the previous entry.

And considering the same people, minus Liebesman, are involved that's more than enough reason for me to have no trust in them.

And they got the origin story wrong? You mean the story that has been pretty much different in most TMNT incarnations? And the most popular incarnation of said origin is the one that barely resembles the original one?

How about the fact they made the Turtles and Splinter learn ninjitsu from some freaking book found randomly in a sewers? That's even dumber and less realistic than Splinter learning it from Hamato Yoshi by mimicking his moves from a cage.

Doesn't change the fact that it was still considered to be terrible by critics and fans.

Hamato Yoshi does not exist in this universe because "it was too complicated to do." From the director himself.

Basic things have been staples of the origin since their conception.

Hamato Yoshi being one of them. No where to be seen here.

They screwed up, because the basic story was "too complicated to tell." Even though they complicated it up themselves by forcefully, unnecesarily shoving Megan O'Fox into the thing.

Well if you're expecting Casablanca then no, but I'm not trying to say it's a great movie but it's a decent movie and doesn't deserve the hate that it gets. The quotes you are getting from me are in reply to that specific conversation that says the critics opinion and divisive fan opinion prove that the movie sucks. Umm..no. Critics are usually a good gauge but they also rate great movies badly. The fact that it has a divisive fan opinion proves it's not terrible. Most everyone agree that TNM sucks for example, that's not really divisive in the fanbase so that means the 2014 film did something right. It also did something right because it made money and people generally liked it which is something the 2007 film was never able to achieve. So yeah critics and half of the fanbase didnt' like it, that's far from the worst movie and they ruined the turtles and raped my childhood comments you see posted. Of course the movie had flaws but I still believe as of right now it's redeemable, not saying it will but the first movie doesn't make me want to jump ship from the new movie franchise.

No. Nobody is expecting Casablanca. We are expecting a competently written, acted, directed movie as well as faithful to the overarching Turtle lore.

We didn't get either of those things, outside of very superficial bits that a braindead chimp couldn't have gotten wrong.

Well in your opinion, I was at least able to tolerate the movie, something I wasn't able to with the Nick cartoon.

And I don't see how you were expecting those things from the 2014 movie since we knew fairly early this was not going to be the case, you easily had almost 2 years worth of warning that it wasn't going to be a traditional TMNT movie. Also there is no faithful overarching TMNT lore, all TMNT continuities go their own way, unless you mean the movie Laird was planning which pretty much died the day Viacom bought the turtles.

Hey, I liked Batman Forever. Hated the neon and Riddler's look at the final battle as well as not getting into Two Face's psyche but it was a great set of characters and better than Returns and B&R.

Acting abilities has me worried. Script has me worried though I do like the set of characters that are being used. Best set of any film thus far. That was the same thing Batman Forever had going for me since Robin and Riddler are two of top favorites.

You know, I get the negativity, I really do. I cried foul when I first heard the name Micheal Bay and "ALIEN TURTLES", hated the way the turtles looked in the first reveal, the first mention of Eric Sachs as Shredder and avoided the film like the plague when it hit theaters. And I didn't pay a dime to see it when it finally hit my local library. Once I saw it I cringed about how badly they f'd up the origin story and the lack of Yoshi/Saki back story. Just shaking my head the whole time "WHY? WHY? WHY DID YOU CHANGE THAT??" ...And yet, the performances of the 4 turtles kind of won me over, after having to do the mental gymnastics of saying, "Hey maybe if they changed this and this, it would be better" ......having said all that, it seems like they are doing some significant course correction and with the exception of Fox/Arnett this is coming across as a soft reboot. First they hired new director who's debut film is nothing like Liebesman and secondly they it looks like we are getting an actual ninja Foot clan, a non-Transformer Shredder, cartoon-accurate versions of Bebop and Rocksteady, and Casey Jones.

I just don't get he unstoppable hate train that keeps continuing with each new pic from this film. I get the mentality of "Once bitten, twice shy.", but this film looks like it has a lot more going for it than the first. I'm hopeful. There are many in-story ways then can re-con the first one or they can just ignore it all together. We still have no idea what the turtles will look like in the sequel.

The "hate-train" stems from the over-crowding, sexualized April, Applebaum & Nemec returning (it was unanimously agreed upon that the writing was the worst aspect of the first), characters like Sacks still being involved, a continually confusing lack of tone consistency, etc.

There are exciting elements to this production, no doubt about it, but these elements are in the hands of some questionable people.

As far as the turtles looks are concerned, this piece (as well as the original maquettes that match it) is on set, confirming they look the same-

& lest anyone say "Look, there's less gear! They're changing things!" remember the original pieces don't have that gear, either.

Nah, the hate-train never stopped from the whole Alien Turtles rumor stories. The over-crowding does seem like a concern Avengers 2, Superman/Batman all seem to be doing the same thing, we'll see if they'll be able to manage so many characters. April has usually been sexualized, don't see how besides the hate of Megan Fox it being a huge problem. Not sure what Applebaum and Nemec wrote in the first movie but if you mention it's the worst aspects then that kind of sucks. I'm kind of happy Sachs is still involved, it would be more annoying to have such a prominent character of the first movie just ignored instead of somehow redeemed.

On one side though, between a new Shredder, hopefully a bigger role for Karai, plus Casey, Bebop and Rocksteady, who are obviously having some human screen time rather than just mutants right off the bat, means less time for April bending over Mikey/Vernon wanting to shag her jokes.

I'm glad to see parts of the TMNT lore featured on the big screen even if they don't come out as perfect; then again, nothing is perfect all the time and that's life. Just like the TMNT 2014 film, the best we can do is just watch the film for 'what it is', even with it's highs and lows.

As for the actors that are playing Bebop and rocksteady, can't wait to see the final cut and as long as they play the characters right that's good enough for me. :)

Some cartoon stuff just doesn't play well in live-action. Here we go.

If they were going to be SO spot-on with the cartoon look, they needed to do a full-on, 100% cartoon, "Speed Racer" or "Dead Or Alive" kind of movie. One of the studio's alleged missions from the beginning of the TMNT project was to "Keep things grounded in reality", and yet, visually everything is so friggin' cheesy to look at. That's one of the biggest problems, they keep trying to have it both ways.

I always wanted to see Bebop and Rocksteady in a movie, too, but this doesn't look too good, honestly. I'm still curious how they'll look post-mutation, but their "normal" look is too over-the-top. I mean that is one BAD lookin' mohawk wig. That's not even something Party City would have on clearance. Come ON. Try a LITTLE bit, guys. "As long as it's f*cking purple...!" And screwy thing is, that's the TRUTH! It doesn't matter that it looks like just the worst amateur cosplay ever when taken altogether, the fact that it's exactly the right *color* has people pissing themselves in delight.

I'unno. I've been saying for decades that there's a way to make Bebop and Rocksteady turn out amazing in live-action. This looks like they're aiming from the wrong angle.

^^ What he said. Why are our only options:
1) the ultimate cinematic achievement of all time, or
2) spam in a can?

Whatever happened to people just making good movies? Not something so profound that you've rediscovered the meaning of life, not terrible dreck - just good. Must everything be at one extreme end of the spectrum or the other? Is competence really so difficult for people these days?

Look, I'm sorry, but the 1990 film set the bar for what people have a right to expect. If you can't do as good a job when you've got way more budget, then you've failed in your mission. There is zero excuse for a major Hollywood production to fail where an indie film succeeded.

The OT is hardly the first version I'd want to see adapted for a modern live action film, but I'd love it if they did it in a way that was true to what it's based on, tonally. Wild, vivid colors, funky slang, full of punk/hip-hop flavor, just totally goofy & unrealistic. Trying to pass the influence of that series in a "realistic" way is about as absurd as can be. There's nothing dark about the stuff they're drawing from, for the most part, yet they're trying to pass it off as Batman Begins styled re-imagining. You could go that route, sure, but you can't have it both ways, as they're trying (& failing) to do. Like I said, do whatever, but just pick that 1 thing & stick with it.

Make 'em look sorta like this:
http://i.imgur.com/CGfNdHf.jpg

Have them eating pizza for every meal, breakdancing, quoting 80's media left & right, the whole shtick. Bebop & Rocksteady fit with that.

Orrrrrrrr just make them full on gritty (with a bit of humor, for fairness' sake) & make them look like some of the rejected concept art.

It's been confirmed numerous times that most of those other characters' screen time will be measured in minutes if not seconds. Stop it.

Also: I got stuff to do, but don't even come near me with that "Every character having an individual series of films is what made 'Avengers' so awesome" nonsense, because I will MAKE time to point out just how many of those films were completely, totally, entirely avoidable, forgettable, and non-essential to what Avengers finally ended up being. And I will do the same thing to illustrate how many movies since, while enjoyable, had NOTHING to do with Avengers 2, either.

Even if they were good, that's not the point. 60% of those movies were only "essential" insofar as to say, "Hey, the guy in this movie will ALSO be in Avengers!" The fact that CYBORG or AQUALOSER aren't getting their own 2-hour "movie"/JLA commercial is not in any way indicative of how BvS or Justice League will turn out. People are over-thinking it. Yeah dude. That's why I LOVE the Speed Racer movie. There was no pretense, it simply WAS the cartoon in live-action. Some people hate that, and are like, "Just do a cartoon, then", but I don't see any other way it could have been done without looking even MORE ridiculous. The original was SO blissfully insane, if you tried to make it "real" you'd ruin it.

If they were going to do an OT-based TMNT movie and actually DO that, well, I know I could relax *a little* about certain things, and could even appreciate some things being "cheesy" or whatever. And hey, lots of movies take bits and pieces of different interpretations and blend them in a way that makes sense. THIS series, though, doesn't know WHAT it wants to be or WHO it's trying to please. They're shooting for as many targets as they can and subsequently missing all of them except the biggest, broadest ones. It's trying to "be the cartoon" while "keeping it real" (how anyone ever said THAT about this series with a straight face, I'll never know).

You gotta pick a spot and commit.

Not digging it. Guess some things just don't translate well in a live action setting.

Not with those two dudes.

It could totally work - it's hardly a stretch, one guy in cammo with blonde crew cut, the other with a white T-shirt, a red leather motorcycle jacket, and ripped black jeans.

The problem are the dudes they cast. ...

This, essentially, but a black man with a burple hawk and shade. Not hard to do!

Not everything stands the test of time, and even at the time, Forever was awful, while and Robin was un intelligible. Bayturtles is and Robin bad. The sequel? With Fatbop? Time will tell.

I re-watched Bayturtles last night for the first time since September of last year.
I thought maybe I had my hater goggles on the first time.

Nope, it made less sense on the second go. It's blatantly obvious where they made cuts and inserted shots to change the Shredder arc, and the movie clearly suffers as a result.

Thank you, Secret of the Ooze, for being the safest TMNT movie ever. Except maybe that 90's "Don't Do Drugs Infomercial" that Michelangelo guest-starred in.

At least IDW's Slash and Nick's Dogpound/Rahzar have given us some form of Tokka and Rahzar that are badass threats not to be reckoned with.

And speaking of badass threats not to be reckoned with, it would be so lovely if 2016's Bebop and Rocksteady were anywhere close to the IDW verisons' love of murder, slaughter, carnage, and destruction.

That's 53% of the people who bothered to post an opinion on RT, a grand total of 129,370 people. Roughly the population of Thousand Oak, California. Not a great sample size.

I agree why the negativity? I mean I get why Megan Fox gets flack in these movies and turtles designs were pretty rough but come on guys you can't tell me that this Bebop not a direct fan service to us old dogs from the 87 series.

I think he looks great and am so stoked to see the new Shredder and Karai.

They somehow manged to make Bebop look more ridiculous than his cartoon counterpart, and where the hell are his glasses?

At least he looks like Bebop while Rocksteady looks like...I don't know. Funny enough when I first saw Sheamus's new look I immediately thought Bebop opposed to the character he actually ended up playing.

When I was a kid and saw the 1990 movie I wondered where Bebop, Rocksteady, and Krang were. Still liked the movie but didn't understand where all the characters were. I was about 5 years old and I didn't know about the comic at the time.

The recent pics of Rocksteady and Bebop remind me what I would have possibly wanted in the original movie, when I was 5. They look like cosplayers and pretty silly looking at that. Fitting for the end of the eighties, not now.:ohwell:

Sheamus is definitely the better-looking of the two.

It's not SO far off from what it should be but their look in general, as others have said, is a little too cartoony, particularly Bebop. Bebop needs a lot of work. I mean to some degree I can accept both characters having poor fashion sense, but the mohawk and the pants on Bebop, especially, should be better.

It's just a little too literal for an adaptation that's only going halfway into any of the material it's "adapting".

I don't mind them looking goofy and cartoonish. It kind of seems like they will harken back to OT Bebop and Rocksteady and that's what they were back then. So far, to it doesn't seem out of place with what this film will be. This film just seems like this will be a lighter film all around.

We did both train at the Monster Factory, but it was about 10 years apart. Working under some of the same people, though, I gotta say, he's gotta be a pretty rough fella. Place is pretty cutthroat.

I'unno if he's "right" for any role, even this one. I will say, his performance is the one and only thing I care about seeing in the movie. He himself ain't helpin' or hurtin' a damn thing. sure, give him a role in a movie, i a'int against the idea of a big irish lad kicking butt- thing is, rocksteady is a dumpy blonde fat oaf. Sheamus (not his real name right?) is a big imposing guy, at least from what you're telling me -I wouldn't know, other than pics online, and I just don't feel he fits this character type.

Now, if he were chosen to play Rocksteady as a mutant, THEN I get it. But the human version? He's already a huge hunk of meat - why mutate a perfectly adequate fighter?

So far, I'm surprised how much I'm liking what I've seen and heard about this. I hated the first, but this looks like it's going so much in the right direction it's almost a soft reboot.

I've even noticed the mo-cap suits, those white balls on their heads are much closer to the actor's heads. I'm wondering, hoping against hope perhaps, if they're going to downside the turtles a little to be closer to the mo-cap actors' heights, which would be great for me.

Heck, are the mo-cap shells smaller than last time?

Since they really are starting out as human in this, I'm curious how they explain the mutation. (Or if they entirely blow off those "technicalities.")

Since Shredder dipped his armored finger in the mutagen at the end of the first, they could have retained a small sample they could have used to recreate the formula.

However, a mutagen that turns humans into mutant animals - and presumably does so at a far more rapid pace unless we're jumping periods of time in this - should need to be a different mutagen entirely and technically (even though I doubt they'll bother) should require time and testing to even create such a thing. Which, though I prefer it, it surprises me that they're starting out as human.

I actually like them. The designs are faithful to the original cartoon, and although you know their style would look silly in RL (especially out of the '80s), they've got a nostalgic charm to them.

I know what I said is probably confusing as heck in regards to the turtles' designs because they're silly too - but they're overly silly with all the accessories and 6 foot statures. (Somewhere, the artists and character designers tear their hair out and cry)

The problem with Bebop is that he looks ridiculous, and not in the good way. If this were a movie from the 80s/90s, I'd be more forgiving of how he looks. But this is a movie being made in the 21st Century, and he looks cheesy as heck. Especially with that ridiculous Mohawk.

Some things just don't translate well into a live action setting.

CyberCubed

Bebop needs the purple mohawk. Human Bebop has 3 defining characteristics:

1. He's black (the most important thing)

2. He has a purple mohawk

3. He wears shades of some kind

If he doesn't have those 3 things he is not Bebop to me. There is a reason IDW and Nick kept these elements with their Bebop designs and this movie one has them too.

Maybe (if they are going to be in a parade or near one) the clothes they wear might be something cheap and cheesy they bought from a costume store to 'look' 80's for the parade. It would explain Bebop's fake looking mohawk, he slapped the cheap looking thing on his bald head because it 'completes' the look.

Otherwise, do you really think they'd not try to make his mohawk look 'real' with millions of dollars, CGI equipment and professional make-up artists? If they were crappy at their job they'd have never hired them.

The crappy look is intentional, trust me.

IndigoErth

Surely you're right about it being intentional, else that production team chooses the stupidest corners to cut. I will laugh (in a lightly pained way) when the Warthog-him has a mohawk because of a fake one he wore.

Damn that newfangled human-mutating mutagen that causes synthetic objects to merge with it's victim and become real. (That could be rather problematic actually... lol)

'Course, knowing the unpredictable changes some parties like to incorporate, I wouldn't put it past them to decide to axe the mohawk all together post mutation. To the unschooled film maker it may look like a minor, opitonal detail. But I hope that isn't the case.

Also, I wouldn't have Bebop's mutated form have a purple mohawk. Maybe some purple on the top of his head, but not a big, obvious mohawk.

Personally, I don't get why you guys are complaining about realism. They haven't made an ounce of effort to make this movie realistic or dark(or good, for that matter). Seriously, this is an accurate portrayal of the character's appearance, so I'm not going to complain about that. Plus, Bebop and Rocksteady are going to have a total of about 10 minutes of screentime in this thing, so, yeah. You'll only have to deal with the mohawk for that long.

Plus, didn't the Bay Turtles have brightly colored patches on the shells that appeared to be incorporated paint dabs? That would be the clearest 'evidence' that mutagen can make synthetic materials fuse with a living creature.

Well, I'll give you that, that the purple always transferred over entirely undisturbed; that is some serious hair dye. Or maybe off screen he was doing a weekly touch-up with purple hair dye. :tlol:

I don't recall if the regular Turtles were marked, I know the toy in the Leo and Raph sets were. I think as mutants it's kanji symbols simply painted on them though. Or in Mikey's case just what looks like graffiti (and I question who did this to him because he can't exactly reach). He's the only one with paint dabs in some sense as far as I recall.

However, you could be right about the touch ups, I might have be thinking too far into left field and simply overlooking something that simple. I know dyed hair takes months to grow out completely, so he might only have to do it once every few months. 8)

They were dabs on the baby turtles to tell them apart in the lab, but somehow the splotch became a colored marking that looked like it ad become part of the Turtle.

Nope the painted symbols aren't the paint dobs from the lab. See this footage of the turtles as kids, they don't have any paint on their shells (see leo, because the other shells are hiden).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDzztivsJIc

Plus it would be stupid if a simple paint abs would change into a japanese symbol through the mutation. For me each turtle painted his brother's shell, because he can't do it itself.

Not intended to try to debate ya on the matter or anything, just got me curious to go try to take a better look.

It's not easy to get a good shot of them from behind, at least not in the clips I looked through. Esp Leo who didn't want to cooperate in what I looked at, almost always too dark, bad angle, or the shot cuts away from him JUST too soon. Grr.

Got one blurry shot of his though, and a poster has it more clearly. His is simple and just matches his mask; the first symbol looks like it's prob largely hidden under his scabbards. Mikey, graffiti (of which I'd like to see better and know if it says anything). Raph, I'm not sure... messy kanji? Donnie, it's not a snub not being included, I just did not see where there was anything on him, but with all the gear on his back anyhow I'm not surprised.

http://i.imgur.com/YerPbCd.jpg

Now I'm curious about who the "artist" of each is (esp Mikey's), since they can't reach themselves, despite the "style" of each being kind of reflective of them.

OH, and I think I noticed a little "oops"... after Mikey punches his fist through the roof of the SUV, his skateboard - that he'd put on his back moments before - is gone, and still gone in the next shot of him and doesn't look to be there anywhere. But it's on his back once again in the avalanche when he and Raph are still hanging onto the SUV.

^ THIS

The problem with Bebop is that he looks ridiculous, and not in the good way. If this were a movie from the 80s/90s, I'd be more forgiving of how he looks. But this is a movie being made in the 21st Century, and he looks cheesy as heck. Especially with that ridiculous Mohawk.

Some things just don't translate well into a live action setting.

It's a guy with a purple Mohawk. He looked silly back then and he looks silly now. Even if it was in the 80s it would still look silly. Because it's a guy with a purple Mohawk.

As I said, there's no pleasing people. You try to stick with the original look and people will say it's cheesy and outdated. You change it, and people whine that he doesn't look like the original.

In the cartoon the Mohawk works fine. But in live action, especially this movie, the look in generally just looks terrible. But considering the people involved I shouldn't be surprised at this.

I'm sure if any other team besides this one was working on a TMNT movie and decided to add Bebop and Rocksteady, he'd look better. Unfortunately that isn't the case.

So we're suppose to just accept this quite frankly disappointing look for Bebop when they could have put in more effort to actually make him look cooler? No thanks.

Besides, I can already call what's gonna happen. Somehow PD will make him and Rocksteady look like a bigger pair of jokes than they already were in the Fred Wolf show, and up their stupidity by 20. So basically we'll be getting Skids and Mudflap 2.0.

You can or can't if you want. I just don't think debating about his purple Mohawk is essential. I've seen characters that look stupid but act decent. I'm more interested on what kind of character he is and how he'll interact with others rather than talk about the authenticity of his Mohawk.

It's a matter of trust and betrayal.

When Bane looked funky in The Dark Knight Rises, we trusted Nolan because of the stellar badass Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.

When Groot and Rocket Racoon sound like idiotic concepts, we trust Marvel because they've successfully translated Thor, Captain America, Iron Man, and The Hulk to the big screen.

When Bebop looks idiotic in TMNT 2, we know we're in for the same $hit$torm of halfassery that was Platinum Dunes' TMNT 1.

I don't see it as betrayal. It's just one of many versions of the characters. We have a whole library of versions to choose and like. It's not like this version completely destroys the original Bebop from our memories and we'll never get to see it ever again. The original will always be there to enjoy.

There's many versions of characters. Some are a hit and some are a miss. Will this be a miss? Well I wouldn't be surprised if it was a miss but we can debate all day and we'll never know until we actually see it.

This isn't the end of TMNT, not by a longshot. Even if it is a miss, there will be others than can potentially improve such characters, appearance and personality-wise.

Can we really expect any good to come from a character, when even the hair piece used on him looks faker then the rodent that died on Trump.

Sure, Williams could be good, but he still looks like he is walking around with a sponge glued to his head. It does not look like actual hair on his scalp. And so far that's all we got to go by, and it's not reassuring.

And, it may not be the end off TMNT, but a bad enough movie can be the end of the TMNT film franchise, just look how long it took between Batman & Robin and Batman Begins.

Or, the catastrophe that is the 1987 Masters of the Universe, which ended up so bad it ruined the franchise's future film opportunity. Just recently there's been talk about a new movie adaptation.

Never said it was the end of TMNT. It is, however, likely the end of good TMNT movies. Which, to my mind, we've never gotten although 1990 was the best of the lot.

Transformers apparently lives on in its comics and toys, but the movies are just big dumb monstrosities. TMNT movies are going the same way.

I didn't think Heath Ledger's Joker was going to be good. I didn't think it was a good choice to have Heath play Joker, I didn't care for the design ect. but it actually turned out to be good. Well, Jack's Joker wasn't exactly comic accurate either. It was mostly just Jack acting like... Jack.

Williams looks like a nice choice, and the basic design for his outfit isn't bad. Maybe a tad underwhelming, but certainly not bad. It's just the execution. Which makes it all rather sour.

Bane looked hella weird in Rises (and was hella weird and not very Bane imo), but the costume was still well made.

Unlike with the Transformers movies where I didn't know who was who except for Optimus Prime due to the poor design and how vastly different their cartoon counter parts are.

Or with Dragon Ball evolution where almost all of the characters are unrecognizable. At least with this TMNT movie, I know who's who, even if their versions might not be great.

I'm not comparing the movies themselves I'm just using it as an example. The thing is that something being different doesn't mean it's always going to suck, as Heath Ledger's Joker was almost entirely different from the comic, and yet turned out great. Whether things are the same or are different, always watch with an open mind as you may be surprised. I wouldn't care if Bebop looked totally different, as long as he had a good character and had good relationships with the other characters.

I sure don't. As good as it was, it wasn't great. Leo and Don are pretty much just the other two Turtles... I don't think the division of character development between the four TMNT was at all fair. Mikey and Raph get all the development, Donnie has farmhouse scenes with Casey, and Leo was barely a leader... at least he watched over Raph in the tub.

Alternately: what's the point of being a fan if you're just going to support anything with the name attached to it?

The reason so many fans hate this movie is because it doesn't live up to the qualities of the story or the characters and concepts that have been established time and again. It doesn't have to be the "same" as what's come before, but it does have to come from an understanding and respect of the core concepts, characters, themes and story that made the property so beloved for 30 years. And also that the MCU movies kept the heart of the characters and their stories intact. They update and streamline many elements of those stories, yes, but they're still remarkably true to the well-established versions of those characters and their backstories while also making them accessible to a (much) wider audience. Marvel Studios knows how to walk that line. Platinum Dunes tends to vomit all over it.

Sometimes fans will just whine when even the slightest change is made which is beyond asinine. Changes will be made. They have to be made and I am willing to accept changes and even like some as some changes can be improvements. But it gets bad when the changes either make the series almost unrecognizable or the changes don't make sense.
Yeah, proper changes that make sense I can deal with. (i.e. they put a little clothing on them; I'm not personally too bothered by that. It's real life NYC, at the very least footwear makes sense.) Stupid changes that shouldn't even have been bothered with or skimped on the foundation of TMNT... no. >.>

No one is complaining that Bebop and Rocksteady's pre-mutation costume doesn't look like the original but that it's badly executed.

I'm something of a traditionalist when it comes to adapting my favorite franchises. More often than not I think the whole idea that a certain things don't translate well to live action is used as an excuse not to even try.

However I know the certain things from comic books don't always translate to live action but that means a film maker has to work at it. This execution looks lazy and poor and not accurate to the animates series at all - I mean in the series Bebops's mohawk was supposed to be real, he and Rocksteady were supposed to be real punkers but these look like two guys in a bad cosplay outfits and sadly I think there's more than an outside chance that's exactly what they are in the story.

Regardless of that one of the (admittedly many) problems with the last movie was the sense of cognitive dissonance

I didn't think Heath Ledger's Joker was going to be good. I didn't think it was a good choice to have Heath play Joker, I didn't care for the design ect. but it actually turned out to be good. In some ways it was better than Jack's version of the Joker, despite being nothing like the comic book version.

A lot of people throw out examples of casting choices that fans thought were bad but turned out well like Heath Ledger as the Joker or Michael Keaton as Batman but these are generally exceptions to the rule.

Bare in mind that once people saw a little of Heath Ledger in his outfit and heard more about his take on the character it eased a lot of fans tensions and Tim Burton put out an early teaser that not only allayed fan concerns about Keaton's casting but also about whether the movie was going to be a complete camp-fest.

Platinum Dunes TMNT series has never done this. Their strategy has been to hide as much as possible, deflection and outright lying and a bizarre mixture of imploring us to trust them with no reason to and at times attempting to shame us for not taking them at their word.

Being different doesn't mean it's going to suck. Speculation is the only thing we can do until it comes out.

Actually I'm coming around to the idea that in this context being different means it's going to suck.

Comic book movies are experiencing a renaissance at the moment and the most well received ones like the original Iron Man, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Batman Begins are very faithful to the comics. Even the ones that don't adapt specific stories draw a lot from the comics to generally good affect.

But why?

It's that the comics and animated series and so forth these characters have been featured in have done the legwork for them.

Change is vital for a property to sustain itself for decades whether it's through taking characters in a new direction or through a process of retconning or rebooting aspects. Sometimes these changes are popular and are added to the canon or largely discarded. It's through that process of trial and error we get a continually evolving picture of what works and what doesn't for these characters. The movies already have their blueprint all they have to do is follow it.

You may ask why doesn't this process extend to the movies themselves? In principal there's no reason why it shouldn't...but more people watch movies of a franchise than will ever watch an episode of an animated series or read a comic on which it's based on which is why fans place such an importance on them.

From a commercial standpoint why would a studio risk so much on some freaky alternate version when they know what works well? It's only the aforementioned excuse that "it doesn't translate well to a movie" that holds this back and the current comic movie landscape continues to devalue that idea. That's not to say that a director can't come along with a unique vision for the characters or an objectively good idea never found in the various material but no one making TMNT had a unique vision and things like Splinter learning ninjutsu from a book is hardly a good idea.

And also that the MCU movies kept the heart of the characters and their stories intact. They update and streamline many elements of those stories, yes, but they're still remarkably true to the well-established versions of those characters and their backstories while also making them accessible to a (much) wider audience. Marvel Studios knows

^ THIS.

PD TMNT didn't do that sort of thing at all. It made changes just simply for the sake of change. And in the end those changes did more to hurt the film than help it. I mean for goodness sakes, this film ripped off so much from The Amazing Spider-Man films that it was laughable.

Fully agree. Clever, good (even brilliant) new ideas are welcome. Ninja books, etc however aren't so much ideas as they are just lazy shortcuts that feel a bit insulting to one's intelligence.

If you're going to change something or bring in a new idea, then have a great reason for it to happen and summon up the personal talent and enough film making brilliance to have me walking out of there thinking it was a great idea to incorporate into TMNT. Rather than leaving me feeling like you really just didn't want to bother with a part, esp a foundational part of the franchise, and cut corners as closely as you could. (i.e. If 2014 started off with TMNT as, say, adults and it's now years later post-Shredder and the film came up with an original new enemy... that would work fine if done in a good way. And saved them the trouble and criticism of rebooting or disregarding the foundational stuff.)

Honestly, if the film makers would listen and pay attention to what people are saying, TMNT could potentially be a learning experience in their quality of film making for that genre IF they could find the will to resist digging their heels in.

Examples of brilliant new ideas?

Old Hob
Agent Bishop
Hun
Karai as Splinter's biological daughter

Examples of insulting idiocy some defenders try to pass off as new ideas?

Splinter learning ninjitsu from a book
Shredder and Splinter not knowing each other

Don't forget hogosha April as the center of everything.

April as the center of everything could have worked; Platinum Dunes just screwed it up.

After all, April working at the lab where the Turtles and Splinter were created/mutated is lifted directly from the IDW comics, and it works perfectly there.

adding on to that list

The Pantheon
Seriously a new way to add a magic element into TMNT if Aliens are too much this is a way to keep them on earth diving into the mystical side.
That said I still want Triceratons:D

I would like to see Old in some form of Media outside the comics. Hopefully not in PD Turtles anything keep all characters from IDW out of PD.

In a Movie but they unfortunately would have to be put in a Invasion story unless the Turtles go off world?

I like everything about them except the purple mohawk color of Bebop.
It should be less bright. It should be a more darker purple.
