Okay, heres the deal: there are 4 elements, Earth, Air, Fire, and Water.
How would you match the turtles up with these 4 elements? I know they made those toys a while back that had them, but they didn't have those 4.
Heres my list:
Mikey - Water, 'cause he can fit diffrent situations
Raph - Fire, 'cause he's a loose cannon
Leo - Earth, 'cause he's a solid leader
Donnie - Air, 'cause air's supposed to be the knowledge/intelegence element.

Heart is not an element of the earth, my friend...that's more of an emotional thing that Gaia made a ring for, heh.
Yeah, slap me, I actually know about Captain Planet...

GreenWillow did this in a piece on her site. I'd add my tents cents, but why bother when she's already done all the work?

I think you need to switch Mike and Don:
Mike = Air, because that's all he has in his head ;)
Don = Water, because his scientific expertise makes versitile in any situation ;)

I plotted something along these lines out a while ago. (T'was a slow day, if memory serves) Though I went with the traditional Chinese elements for some reason, and tossed Splinter into the mix.
Michelangelo: Wood
Raphael: Fire
Donatello: Metal
Leonardo: Earth
Splinter: Water
All in all, I thought they fit the scheme quite nicely.

I would change that around a little bit:
Michelangelo: Water (Loves sports and surfing)
Raphael: Fire (Mess with him and you'll get burned)
Donatello: Metal (Don does machines, enough said)
Leonardo: Earth (The solid member of the group, leader)
Splinter: Wood (um, he's a rat....;-p)

Leo= Earth (laying plans)
Raph= Fire (Combat, Rage)
Mike= Water (Adaptability)
Don = Wind (wind can represent technique and study)
Splinter = Void (Spirituality)
Shredder = Metal (Just look at him)

Well, if metal is an element, then I guess Shredder's it. But personally, I'd more associate him with Shadow. It's not technically an element but it represents dark/evil nonetheless.

Heh.. I'm pretty set on how I see the four too. My reasonings are based off of Chinese lore and Wiccan. :D I have a more indept reasoning behind those choices on my Splinter Bio page too: http://www.turtlequest.com/tmnt/kakera.html
Leo = Air
Don = earth/stone (sometimes wood)
Mike = Water
Raph = Fire
Splinter = Love :P
I think I would put Splinter as earth, simply because he is always there (for the most part :cry: ) as a guiding mentor/father/beacon of wisdom/whatever else for the turtles when they need help.

The second episode of the anime was about this. The turtles get armor (those aforementioned action figures) as do Shredder and his gang. The armor is based on the 7 "elements", and are also the days of the week, apparently.
If I remember correctly, this is how it went down. I may have mixed up one or two of these, but I'm pretty sure this is right. It's been awhile since I've seen them, though.
Leo - Sun - Dragon Armor
Mike - Earth - Spider Armor
Raph - Fire - Phoenix Armor
Don- Wind - Chimera Armor
Bebop - Water - Fish-thing Armor
Rocksteady - Metal (I think) - Snake-Thing Armor
Shredder - Moon - Tiger Armor
Leo and Shredder have a big fight towards the end. There's a lot of symbolism there between the sun and moon, dragon and tiger, yin and yang. It's cool.
