I am wondering if there was such a reference because when the Turtles go back to the lair without getting caught by Splinter and being sent to the "Hashi" Raph says he'll be heading out on his own, to which Mike says "How are we gonna finish our hip hop Christmas album bro? You're the hype man!"

There was a VHS which was called We Wish You a Turtle Christmas where the Turtles sung Christmas songs, trying to get a gift for Splinter and so forth. It was horrible.

I too thought that's what they were referencing. Seems too specific for it to be a coincidence.

Yeah, pretty sure it was. I even laughed when I heard the line for that very reason. Little too on-the-nose not to be.

I'm 100% positive that the people making the movie(s), First Thing they did, was do a Wikipedia search of TMNT, and create a checklist of Every Single Thing ever connected to the franchise, so they could squeeze in a poorly-timed, ill-fitting reference to Every Single One, so they could claim with a straight face that there was something in the movie for "Every TMNT fan".

Yeah. For every TMNT fan who has to wear mittens before they're allowed to eat soup.

Yep, that's what I'm thinking, too, Leo. I saw a Yahoo article about some of the things that were referenced and I told my mom, "That doesn't mean this movie is any good. Anyone can throw in a reference. You have to have an actual plot to have a movie."

It may be inspired, but it's just a promitional video-film. A lot of people say they're horrible, but while not intended to be a TMNT universe thought to expand, I see no problems with those.

Solidly in "so bad it's good" territory imo, at least for one watch. There's something a little amusing about sitting there speechless watching that. :tlol:

As for being a reference in 2014, ehh... been torn between that or simply the fact that Christmas albums are pretty commonly done in the music industry.

Yep, this was quite possibly the best and most obscure reference in the whole movie. :P
