This is a thread just for discussioin about the movie, anything you like or hate about what you seen from filming and news.
You speculate on what you think is going to happen in the movie too.
So keep all discussion here and don't use the official photo/video thread for it.
Oh and try and keep arguements out, don't want a full lockdown again do we.
'Cough' Sticky this thread please 'Cough'

Well, one thing I hate about it is that Stephen Amell looks nothing like Casey Jones. He just looks like himself with a hockey stick and that's not right. I also don't like April's undercover outfit either. She should have chosen something a lot less revealing, but we all know it was to entice the boys to see this thing. Ugh!
Edit: Furthermore, I don't see why people shouldn't be allowed to comment right on the video/set thread as that's where the pictures are and where people can scroll and look at said pictures. But whatever.

Cus whenever you go to the thread to see pictures.....there are NO pictures!
Just pages and pages of fighting and crap!
Makes perfect sense to have two different threads.

Huh.
Overcrowded... just like we all feared. There is no way another 90min PD film can do justice to all of the new characters and storylines in the length of the first film.

Yeah it could last 2 1/2 hours, also the alien invasion might close out this movie and be continued over in the 3rd movie.

I'm aware the runtime might be significantly increased, but I don't think it's likely. Didn't Nickelodeon already cut the first movie's runtime so that they could get more TMNT showings in a single business day?

I thought they cut some of it out because of changing Eric Sacs/Shredder to the other guy and had to do reshoots because of it.
Also I expect that some things we've seen could could get cut out of this movie.

A lot of the cuts were because of poorly-executed script rewrites, but some of the material was also cut to trim the runtime. It's never been confirmed, but I'm assuming Raph in a trenchcoat and Vern in the lair was where time was saved... as neither of those elements would really seem to tie into the whole Eric Sachs debacle.
I watched The Dark Knight again, and had to shake my head. When he's not hunting down mutant turtles, Eric Sachs earns a little money on the side working at a mob bank. :tlol:

Also, fyi, that very likely may not necessarily be for the film. I've seen non-TMNT photos in prior months in an article or two (one did however make a TMNT joke) because there IS a green dye used to help trace leaks when a pipe or something like that breaks. (Too bad I can't give that heads up in the other thread where some may just keep assuming it's for TMNT.)

http://www.ibtimes.com/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-2-updates-casting-call-bodybuilders-filmmakers-interview-1987287
The producers of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2” are looking to cast bodybuilders as extras for scenes to be filmed in New York City in July.
A casting announcement on ClaimFame states that the producers are looking for male bodybuilders who are 6 feet 3 inches tall to 6 feet 5 inches tall. The extra will be the body double for cast member Stephen Farrelly, who is expected to be playing the role of Rocksteady in the forthcoming movie. The applicants have till July 6 to send in their details.
So I guess if you're a wall of a man and and wanna do it, get the application in soon.
Curious about this "body double" though since the guy cast for Rocksteady is seen as human Rocksteady. Maybe this casting is for mocap? But they also refer to it as an extra... Hm.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Helicopter Annoys Tribeca Residents
Over the weekend, Tribeca residents were disturbed by a very loud helicopter. It appeared at around 6 AM on Saturday, and was still in the sky above Hudson Street at around 8:30 Sunday night. Tribeca Citizen determined that it was filming for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2.
Sorry, residents, but I lol'd. Are they really even so sure.

Seriously, I would've had more respect for the people behind this if they'd just gone full retard and Blue Doored it from the start - it's obviously what they wanted to do all along. They're just making surface changes to try to fool people into thinking that we're getting something different.

Yep serious Blue Door things happening. I'm going to guess that Casey is an old high school or college flame who she reconnects with in the movie and their relationship inspired by that script.
I don't think we'll get a full-on Avengers vs Chitauri invasion though. I think it'll be a shorter affair to accommodate a smaller budget. Some soldiers on the streets doing battle with the NYPD while the TMNT shut down the portal bringing in the Technodrome which is presented something like the Galactus cloud in the F4: Rise of Silver Surfer movie.

Yeah, no, Avengers vs. Chitauri/Ultron drones ('cause it's basically the same thing) took up a big chunk of the movie. TMNT's final battle from the Blue Door felt like a rushed, barely even 10 minute battle.

Look, the "talent" behind this project couldn't even write a competent story for the first movie with The Foot & Sachs as the bad guys - now they're gonna tackle at least three times the villains with The Foot & Sachs, additional henchmen like B&R plus Baxter and an alien invasion? Everything in this movie is going to be rushed, with the amount of nostalgia-wank that they're throwing in here.

Now that they have established the characters, origin, etc. they can pack a lot more into upcoming films. The first movie did very well at the box office, but got mostly negative reviews. I'm sure that they are trying harder to please fans with this new movie and not kill the franchise. I have been wanting to see a live action Bebop and Rocksteady and Krang since I was a kid. I remember how disappointed I was seeing Tokka and Rahzar from SOTO. I'm just hoping this "alien invasion" thing is not aliens but Krang and Dimension X. They seem to have wanted Dimension X to be a part of this franchise since earlier drafts of the first movie. Even though it's not very good, I do enjoy watching the first film. I usually fast forward through all of the Eric Sachs/ April O'Neil stuff and just watch the scenes with the turtles, which I think are entertaining and well done. I watch it with the mindset that I'm watching a cheezy B movie or... well, Ninja Turtles.

Shoving as much sh*t as they can into a script that was probably barely done before they started shooting with a director who only has one found footage sci-fi kids movie to his name, from almost the exact same writers and producers as the first movie.

You know just to show I'm not against the movie because I'm a "hater" I should point out that Nemec and Applebaum have written stuff that isn't bad at all the problem is with their TMNT work.
I actually give them something, that apart from the premier they didn't do what everyone else involved with the movie did and pump us full of transparent crap about what huge fans they were and how faithful the movie would be they were pretty open from the start; They weren't huge fans (Hollywood talk for not fans at all) and they weren't going to adhere to the mythology. Even that I can't be mad at them about as that's likely exactly what Platinum Dunes brought them in to do.
What is clear from interviews like these (http://www.craveonline.co.uk/entertainment/film/interviews/739909-teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-screenwriters-interview) is they put a lot of thought and effort into April O'Neil and Eric Sachs's story and seem crestfallen that much if it ended up on the cutting room floor. Contrast that to what they express about the turtles and their mythology it's a lot more flippant as if they really didn't put much thought into those aspects.
I'm positive we're going to get a lot of awkward Casey and April relationship jostling, it's already clear we're getting much more Vern and I'm sure they are not going to waste Laura Linney.

Y'know a low key alien incursion might not be such a bad idea. Partly because TMNT generally is more street level heck even the Fred Wolf show never had one going on for very long. The end of the first season of the 80s animated series had barely a two lines of Rock Soldiers make it through the portal before they were sucked back to Dimension-X. Ironically it was the more grounded '03 series that portrayed a full on alien invasion the best and even allowed the turtles to remain largely secret however they are going for a more Avengers feel even it comes off more like a Venom in Spider-Man 3 kinda deal. Like...oh yeah here's an extra battle with a fan favorite for ya.
Now that they have established the characters, origin, etc. they can pack a lot more into upcoming films.
I don't think it established the characters and origin at all. At least not well enough. There's a not insignificant amount of both fans and general public that thought it was terrible and even those who enjoyed it are holding out hope the sequel will correct it. Of course the possibility of that happening seems highly unlikely. It would take much better writers to make it gel with the story they've already told.
The first movie did very well at the box office, but got mostly negative reviews. I'm sure that they are trying harder to please fans with this new movie and not kill the franchise.
Intent and result are two very different things. Other than maybe Bay himself I doubt anyone meant for the entire fan base to be up in arms or to make what is generally regarded as a garbage movie but that's how it ended up.

Wait wait wait... so the intergalactic sh*t is ACTUALLY being used in this movie??? Whoa. Dunno how to feel.
On one hand, this should really just be the Shredder-And-Karai-Unleash-Bebop-And-Rocksteady-On-The-Turtles-Who-Are-Aided-By-Casey-Jones movie. Some say that's overcrowded, I think it sounds killer. But throwing Dimension X in the mix too??? That's mental.
Yet on the other hand, I wanna see Krang & the Technodrome in a movie. Been wanting that since the 80's. Like, as penny said, why not go "full retard" and throw in the kitchen sink. Especially since it's feasible that this could be the second and final PD TMNT. If it grosses less than the original, it's game over and we wait years (maybe more) for a reboot. If this really underperforms, it'll be forever til we get another live-action Turtles movie. Part of me thinks they should just go crazy & throw in everything while they can...
For all we know, the alien invasion they (apparently) filmed could be just an end credits tag or part of a cliffhanger ending. I'm sure we'll be able to figure it out even before the first trailer hits

If Bay could get out of the way and they get good writers to do it good justice and improve and keep improving rather than half ass the whole thing each time they'd somewhat have my blessing. But they're really going to have to prove themselves this time that they can handle it like respectable film makers.
Do hope maybe the Krang/Technodrome stuff will just be hinted at and save a larger role for it for next time.
If it plays a big role in there, then this thing better be three hours long...

So, people who "enjoy" TMNT because "It's silly and stupid" continue to insist that is the perfect direction for this series, and that anyone else is some kind of cynical angry person. Meanwhile, people see it as something more than that, who simply want things to be exploited to their full potential, continue to be told that they're injecting too much importance into this "silly kids' stuff".
Nice to know everything's exactly the same as it was a week and a half ago.

If you are referring to my comment. I never insisted that this is the perfect direction for the series. I too want things exploited to their full potential. I still think the original 1990 movie is the best and the 2003 animated series is the best cartoon. However, I can appreciate all of the different versions. Turtles can be serious, heavy plot driven and emotional, or it can be a silly thing for kids. The new movie is NOT a good movie, but it does have scenes that I enjoy watching. I'm not insisting that the next movie is going to be good, but I can be hopeful if I want and that was all I was trying to say.

It's lots of people. Naming names and pointing fingers distracts from the larger point and I try and avoid it unless it's absolutely necessary.
The broad point being, the people who enjoy these movies the most are the ones who are content and/or more satisfied with TMNT being primarily "silly dumb fun". I don't think anyone can argue that. And I also don't think anyone can argue with the fact that there's just as many people who know that TMNT can be a little bit better than that, and they in turn often get yelled at or made fun of for expecting too much. And I find that kind of unfair.
Also, I do wish I had a Flying V. No foolin'.

Exactly. And, Seth, they didn't establish the origin at all. There is no Saki/Yoshi rivalry and Splinter learned ninjutsu based off of some silly book. To me, that's not establishing an origin of anything more than it is p*ssing on it and not putting forth the effort to tell the story right. And when they were asked why, they simply said, "It was too complicated." Are you serious?

More realistically, I think it has more to do with how minimally the Fred Wolf cartoon referenced the origin. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Tang Shen ever features... it's just Saki and Yoshi. One brief little "Saki had no honor and tried to take over the Foot by framing Yoshi, who got kicked out... and well here we are!"
But even then, Bay couldn't be bothered. Because it's too complicated. :trolleye:

But even then, Bay couldn't be bothered. Because it's too complicated. :trolleye:As much as the people who made the first movie mentioned comics and Eastman, their main influence was the old cartoon. The origin wasn't a big deal in that show (And it was also a huge simplification of the comic origin). The Splinter/Shredder rivalry was small potatoes. Shredder wanted to destroy the turtles because the turtles kept messing up his plans. The OT turtles also kicked in doors and fought like overpowered brutes, instead of like ninjas. That's what Leibesman grew up with.
If I made Batman movies, they'd be more like the 60's show than anything else. I've liked Batman my whole life, but I've never read The Dark Knight Returns or Knightfall, or really any comics you might hope would influence my films. Whether it's my responsibility to incorporate that stuff or if I have every right to make Batman '66-inspired films is up to debate. I'm just saying that's what I think happened with TMNT. And if you look at the movie as something influenced almost solely by that cartoon, it makes a lot more sense that it came out how it did.

True, but even as an OT homage, the movie failed miserably. The writing and editing were atrocious. If PD wanted to acquiese to fan complaints about a white-washed Shredder, then they shouldn't have half-assed it.
A terrible movie is somewhat subjective, due to taste; but terrible writing is absolutely objective.
And you would be absolutely within your right as a scriptwriter or director to produce a 66-Batman movie. But it would be idiotic to do so, knowing that the majority of your potential audience will not like it. In the same way, Michael Bay is an idiot for not knowing that 50% of his audience are adults who grew up on the OT, but are now old enough to recognize half-assed writing and lack of interest, and who will villify him for insulting their intelligence and their fandom.

We'll never know how deeply the budget cuts and rewrites altered their plans. It's easy to say they should've done better with the changes, but we'll never know what options were actually at their disposal at those stages of production. What they could afford to do, or what footage was rendered worthless. Personally, I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, in that area. Especially since I think feel they did a great job with the turtles, themselves. I don't share the impression that there was a lack of care or concern. At least not from Leibesman.

*cough* Michael *cough* BayAs someone who loves BTTF as much as TMNT, it's a perfect property for a remake. There's just a 95% chance it would be done poorly. The story of a teenager who goes back in time 30 years to when his parents were teenagers, and has to make them fall in love? That's GOLD. GOLD. That story could work today, a hundred years from now, or a hundred years ago. But no one would remake BTTF using only the core concept.
You try reusing the old characters or old jokes? Hello, McFly, 1.21 jiggawatts, Doc, Marty, Biff, the DeLorean? You'll never please fans. But just that core story concept? It's like most remakable thing ever.

The four Turtles were well done (except for Donnie's uber-geek), but I wouldn't give anyone credit for that except for the four actors themselves. Five, I guess, if you count both halves of Leo (VA + motion capture).

And when they were asked why, they simply said, "It was too complicated." Are you serious?
Some of today's film makers are basically the kid who came in fourth place and still expects (and probably receives) a trophy and vigorous applause.
It might take effort to tell a story well, but it's never "too complicated" tell a story unless you're that uncreative or lazy, and at that point why are you in the business.

What I meant by "they established the origin" was this: They have established the origin for this specific film series so the next film can just move on to the next adventure and we don't have to go through all of the character introductions since they are already established. This will allow them to put more characters and content into this. I didn't say the origin story in the first movie was good or well written. I hate it too. But it least we don't have to see it again in the next one.

I agree with you when you say we can move on and not revisit that atrocious half-assed non-origin.
I don't necessarily think putting more characters and content into this sequel is a good idea... so far, it seems like it's gonna be just as much of a mess as the first movie, assuming a similar 90min runtime.
But I, at least, am prepared to change my opinion on the movie's quality or lack thereof once we start getting some trailers. We shall see. I expect the worst, but we shall see...

Some new info about Stephen Amell's take on Casey Jones.
http://www.thetvjunkies.com/stephen-amell-his-version-casey-jones/
Arrow star Stephen Amell has been a busy man this summer as he’s traded in his bow and arrow for a hockey stick. The CW superhero will star as vigilante Casey Jones in the upcoming movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 which will be released in 2016. He has spent his Arrow hiatus in New York City this summer filming his first major role on the big screen and was able to give The TV Junkies some details about his take on the turtle-friendly Jones.
“My version of Casey Jones is really incomplete,” says Amell before going on to explain that this take on the character, known for wielding weapons such as golf clubs, hockey sticks and baseball bats, may be different from what fans expect. “We meet Casey Jones at a very different point in his life than most people that are familiar with the live-action version of Casey Jones. He’s not really that guy yet,” explains Amell.
So then just what is this new era Casey Jones up to? Amell remains somewhat tight lipped but adds that “he is doing something different and has aspirations that don’t really involve being a vigilante. Then he’s put in his place a little bit and he needs to make a few decisions.”
As for the movie itself, Amell thinks it appeals to a broader audience this time around. “I do think that this movie will be a little more family friendly,” he tells us. But family friendly doesn’t mean there will be any shortage of action sequences, and in fact those are going to be bigger than previous Turtle movies. “The third act of the movie is just non-stop action on multiple fronts,” Amell previews.
What about fans concerned about the reboot and how it will stand up with past Turtle movies? Amell says that they shouldn’t worry because “this to me, based on everything that I’ve heard, feels like a Turtles movie as opposed to the first one.” He also adds that “this may be a little darker than people had anticipated.” But fear not Turtle fans because Amell seems pretty sure that regardless, fans are going to enjoy themselves watching this movie. “I think that we’re nailing this one. Everyone seems to be really happy,” he says.
Amell himself seems pretty happy about his first experience filming in the Big Apple saying, it “has been really interesting and valuable for my career.” There are some definite differences he’s had to adjust to though as opposed to Arrow shoots in Vancouver. “In Vancouver if we need to do an outdoor practical shoot we close the street. You can’t do that here,” he explains before recalling that “my very first thing that I shot was at 42nd and 6th in Times Square and there were literally thousands of people on the street watching what was happening and yelling my name.”
The experience is one that Amell is grateful for and one that’s taught him a lot. “It really focuses you in and makes you concentrate on your work. You can’t get distracted by outside things,” he says. The shoot for TMNT2, which Amell says “is really fun,” concludes in a few weeks at which time Amell will return to Vancouver to begin work on Season 4 of Arrow.

http://www.thetvjunkies.com/stephen-amell-his-version-casey-jones/
So basically, this movie's main narrative focus is going to be Casey's origin. And the previous movie's narrative focus was April. And now we can see where the majority of character development is going to lie... :trolleye:
So first Amell says the movie will be "more kid friendly" than the first installment, but then he says it will be "a little darker than people anticipated"... dude, STFU. You're just saying what you think everyone wants to hear, and everyone (parents vs fans) can't agree on what we want. Just like this forum, pretty much.
Gah. This little snippet just adds to my overwhelming sense of angry "meh" for this movie. :tgrumble:

Same ball-lint-bull-shite as Man of Steel. Sick of it.

This is why I hated Man of Steel. The whole "not quite ready for prime time" hero crap, on top of everything else.
Yeah, every now and then you can use it to a degree, but lately it's become a lazy trope of the reboot generation.

Then they better be doing what I've hoped and drag it out to where he does at least BECOME that character at some point, by either the end of the film (which sounds too fast and forced...) or have intentions of evolving the character through further films, if it has more.
To show the evolution of the character could be interesting imo, I can deal with drawing it out like that as long as he does at some point end up as a legit Casey. But being a known character, they kinda need to let people in on those intentions if it's there. Telling people to "just wait" isn't going to cut if it they just end up looking like they're making stupid choices instead. (And if that is too deep for them to come up with on their own, well film makers there's an idea, take it, it's on the house.)
If he doesn't turn into a true Casey... Why are such pretentious people even allowed to make films.
Hate to say it though, but I wouldn't be surprised if we get loads of backstory with so many characters added since last time they had to give April and Sacks' one.

I knew the info about Casey Jones would be mixed, I have no problem with it. Most know Casey Jones as just the vigilante, But I like the idea, That they will explore the character's origin. In the IDW comic, Casey origin was that, Hun, the leader of the Purple Dragon is his dad, Who was an abusive father.
So it'll be interesting what his background is going to be for the sequel.

I like the idea of Casey starting out as a regular guy and gradually becoming a vigilante over the course of a film. However, I think you would need a whole movie just about Casey in order to do it justice. Turtle fans, whether casual or committed, have been very vocal about the fact that they want the Turtle movies to focus on the Turtles! I like the idea of multiple villains. The OT cartoon often had Shredder, Krang, Bebop and Rocksteady, and Baxter Stockman all in the same episode. Also SOTO, did a decent job of juggling multiple villains. Bringing in a new hero, however, and following his gradual character development, will just take time away from the real heroes. I think the only way to properly include Casey Jones is to have him start off as a vigilante who's against the turtles and learns to work with them throughout the course of the film (like the 1990 movie) with maybe just a quick flashback scene about how he came to be. If they made a really good Turtles movie that focused mainly on the Turtles, then maybe fans would go and see a Casey Jones origin film (like with X-Men). In the 2014 movie, we only got to see the turtles come to be through a flashback. If the only character development the turtles got was through a flashback, then it makes no sense to make a film about the development of Casey Jones. Make Casey a supporting character and focus on the Turtles and Splinter.

Yes, very much. If they went that route I'd prefer they master the art of subtlety about it and let it happen in the background instead of as a focus of the film.
But... we're talking about film folks who don't understand subtlety for ninjas, so...

To play the devil's advocate for a moment Amell could mean that the use of sexual humor is gone while the look and tone of the movie is stylistically darker ala the 1990 movie or the '03 series.
Of course to counter that we have Megan Fox in a catholic schoolgirl outfit and Bebop and Rocksteady looking like they've stepped out of the 80s cartoon show. I'm guessing that from Amell's perspective there's some truth in what he's saying but we had the same kind of statements from people in the last movie and look how that turned out.
As for Casey having an origin in the movie? The idea in principal isn't a bad one in fact in threads asking what we'd like to see in the sequel I stated I wanted to see the 'origin' from the '03 series and Mirage's Tales of the TMNT. If depicted well not only would it would suitably dark but explain why Casey becomes a vigilante.
Based on this and Amell's earlier comments there does seem to be a fundamental misunderstanding of what kind of character Casey is. He isn't a vigilante that learns any skills or develops any abilities, Casey Jones isn't a persona he becomes he just puts the mask on and goes, he's not even necessarily good at what he does. We don't need to see any journey like that because their is none but I suppose being a new version they're insistent they don't have to do things the old ways.
Perhaps even worse though is that in all set pics we've seen Amell seems to have fairly neutral facial expressions. There no signs of Casey's rogue-ish personality which is the heart of the character in most versions. It seems this Casey is as bland as his wardrobe.
I have a feeling that the story will go somewhat like this; Casey is April's high school or college sweetheart but she ditched him because he had no ambition and we find him them reconnecting in the movie and her words inspire to "make a difference" or "make something of himself" or some other movie cliche that inspires him to tackle crime his way like she does with her journalism.
That, at least, is an acknowledgement from someone officially involved that "yeah, we f*cked up on the first one."
If this was coming from an actual producer or director, and not just some actor desperate to upgrade from television to movies, I'd feel a little better.
Actually there's been some subtle acknowledgement from people involved in the last movie that they screwed up. There was video interview with Fuller and Form said something along the lines of "we'll change your minds" in relation to the sequel. While that may not be an acknowledgement they ****ed up it could be seen as acknowledgement most people disliked it.
Not to mention that the four turtle actors have mentioned the lack of their screentime. Jeremy Howard in particular at a con has made big declarations that this time they know what they are doing and have an actual script etc. You remember Howard was the one who admonished fans last time and made bold claims about things which sounded intriguing but ended up on the cutting room floor. You'd think he'd be careful this time.
Turtle fans, whether casual or committed, have been very vocal about the fact that they want the Turtle movies to focus on the Turtles!
Y'know it wouldn't be quite so bad if the turtles got less screen time in the sequel if they had an adequate amount in the first. As it stands the movie has to fit in Casey's origin, his relationship with April, Bebop and Rocksteady's origin a lot of stuff with Vern and his celebrity friends, Baxter Stockman, the NYPD stuff, Shredder and the Foot's plan and now an invasion from Dimension-X as well as solid screen time for the turtles.
Many a movie series has been killed with this kind of overcrowding and that's even with noble intentions not the rather desperation moves of this movie.
I like the idea of multiple villains. The OT cartoon often had Shredder, Krang, Bebop and Rocksteady, and Baxter Stockman all in the same episode. Also SOTO, did a decent job of juggling multiple villains.
The OT had multiple episodes to set up the status quo. Also I'm not sure I'd agree Secret of the Ooze did well in this regard. The intriguing TGRI plot and the turtles search for is unsatisfactorily set aside mid way through. A lot of time is wasted on setting two henchmen and Super Shredder really seems tacked on. It's certainly not the worst movie in this regard but I don't think it should be bandied around as proof this can be done.
think the only way to properly include Casey Jones is to have him start off as a vigilante who's against the turtles and learns to work with them throughout the course of the film (like the 1990 movie) with maybe just a quick flashback scene about how he came to be.
Surprisingly I agree with you on this.

To play the devil's advocate for a moment Amell could mean that the use of sexual humor is gone while the look and tone of the movie is stylistically darker ala the 1990 movie or the '03 series.
That would be a welcomed change.

Yeeeeah... if Mikey calms down in that department that would be a plus. He can crush on April, but come on, lets not be creepy about it.
Mhmm... was gonna mention Howard joining Fox and Bay in having a little flip out over criticism. Found it rather off putting that he did that when the Turtles actors were like THE people in there most were pretty well in support of. Earned respect back from me though when he did later take a step back and all these guys were able to talk about what they wish had happened with it that didn't.
I mean I get it, you don't want to and can't speak negatively about a project you're involved in, esp when you may be trying your darnedest to do your own job well with what you have to work with. I can only really take actor's words with a grain of salt until a film is public because there is a lot that they have no control over. (Unless someone is a big enough celeb I guess to make demands... or a big enough producer.) Such will be the case for Amell, too, for the time being.

One thing I would like to see is more Splinter. The last movie made it very difficult to get into his character. He's a dick to the turtles right off the bat and there are no real scenes where he actually teaches them anything or has a father/son moment with them. Even when he gets his ass kicked by the Shredder, you don't really feel that bad for him because the movie didn't really let you get to know him. They should lose Vern, Casey, and Baxter Stockman and put more scenes with Splinter and the Turtles. Also, since they obviously have to do something with this character, they should make Eric Sachs an Utrom. That would be cool.

True, thinking about it, it really was just the Turtles I felt for dealing with the situation, esp after he closes the gate on Leo, Donnie, and Mikey.
First impressions and all...the first we saw of him I think was him being what any human parent would be labeled as physically abusive? Way to not connect the viewer or garner any sympathy for the mangy rat man from the onset... (His creepiness didn't help matters though. lol)
My version of Casey Jones is really incomplete. We meet Casey Jones at a very different point in his life than most people that are familiar with the live-action version of Casey Jones. He’s not really that guy yet.
When an actor is calling the character they're playing "really incomplete", you've gotta worry.
See... this is just more confirmation of our fears. Just like most of the characters were just In Name Only last time around, even Amell is admitting the same is true of his Casey Jones. They learned nothing.
I mean, remember when Elias Koteas' Casey just turned up, fully formed, like this?
7_6KMGB_Pkw
...and how absolutely nobody had a problem with it? And that entire character/performance is still considered a highlight of the whole movie? That's because he's a character, not just a bland, generic guy who will maybe one day be a character.
WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OF COURSE! OF BLOODY COURSE! Damn you Nolan. All anyone learned from you was to drag out the introduction of characters, and show them as "not ready to become their namesake, but they be trying!"
I don't entirely disagree here, but you can get away with that with Batman because he's a character who has a journey before he becomes Batman. Not that it's worth a whole movie or more to see that journey, but it's there in the source material.
Casey, on the other hand, was pretty blatantly designed as a parody response to the "tragic backstory" vigilante that Batman represents. Giving him much more build-up than "hey, crime sucks, I'm gonna bash some heads" is completely missing the point.

Well... it's nice to hope that they learned their lessons, but they also parroted the "it's gonna be awesome, fans are gonna love it, we got this" lines last time. Their job is only to get people to pay for tickets, and they will always lie through their smiling teeth to achieve that goal.
Basically: We were bitten once already, so we're pretty justified in being twice shy.

Yep. To allll this.
Especially that last bit. We were promised ALLLLL kinds of sh*t that we never got. And we were told to shut up and like it or f*ck off by both Producer and Star of Movie.
Still remember all that talk of Raid style fighting. What'd we get? Barely any actual martial arts at all, in general. Let alone Raid style.
And now they expect us to fall all over ourselves to love them because they're packing this movie's anus with a bunch of characters we love, while either completely missing the point of them or turning them into caricatures? And giving others cosmetic make-overs the likes of which SHOULD have been in the FIRST movie to BEGIN with?
F*ck them.

I care about Casey Jones' backstory in comic books and cartoons.
I don't give a single sh*t about it in the context of a movie called "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles", though. They're barely gonna be in the damn movie, for real! People thinking this is going to be a 2.5-hour Epic where everyone from Casey to Krang to the Turtles gets an "arc" are out of their f*cking minds! It's gonna be a 100-minute cluster-f*ck that looks more like a Playmates commercial or a live-action love letter to the FW cartoon than an actual goddamn movie.
I love to say "I told ya so", and I got quite a few in last time. So I'm practicing saying it with an accent this time. It won't translate well to text, unfortunately. But I'm sure most of you will get the gist of it.

Look at this. Look at this 4 minute Youtube video homage to the Ninja Turtles.
It was leagues better than ALL 100 minutes of BayTurtles by...by just so much.
There was no dialogue in this video, but I felt more brotherly camaraderie in this thing than in every bit of screentime the Turtles had in the BayTurtles movie.
In 4 minutes they managed to show me incredible Ninja Turtle-y martial arts, WITH Ninja Turtle weapons. They managed to show me all the personalities of all four Turtles WITH NO DIALOGUE. IN FOUR MINUTES. And they ended on an incredible cliffhanger that had me dying for more.
I felt infinitely more satisfied by this 4 minute Youtube video than I could EVER by the BayTurtles movie.
That scene of them all chasing "Leo" and the camera cutting to close-ups of their faces? Nearly made me cheer. It was friggin' beautiful.
There was no unnecessary Michael Bay/Megan Fox bullsh*t and it was amazing.
Four minute Youtube video vs a multi-million dollar Hollywood major motion picture. The four minute youtube video beat the f*ck out of the major motion picture and then cut its head off.
My point here is that there was no goddamn reason why we got what we got and are going to get what we're going to get. When a FOUR MINUTE YOUTUBE VIDEO manages to give you sooooo much of what the major motion picture didn't/couldn't? There's a friggin' problem.

Yeah, this is more proof that these people don't know what they want to do with this movie. See, the Nick show had a good way of introducing Casey and building him up to be the vigilante we all know and love, and they knocked it out of the park. It's hard to take this guy seriously when he doesn't even f*cking look like a Casey Jones to begin with and just looks like that guy from Arrow with a damn hockey stick. How are we supposed to pretend it's Casey if he doesn't look a thing like Casey? Makes no sense to me.

Please, no. We already had a lair invasion.
True, thinking about it, it really was just the Turtles I felt for dealing with the situation, esp after he closes the gate on Leo, Donnie, and Mikey.)
Thinking about it, that was really stupid. Did Splinter really not think that 5 on 1 odds wouldn't at least help even the match? While Shredder's pounding the Turtles, Splinter could land hits.
Also, about Casey... WE DON'T NEED AN ORIGIN STORY. This movie is about THE TURTLES. No one is going into the movie to see Casey and April hook up. Casey has ALWAYS been established as a rough-guy. Sure, it'd be a little cool to see his fighting style not be where it usually is, and based on his experiences with the Turtles, he gets better at fighting, but what they're doing is giving Casey a sense of "logic." Casey is a psychopath, and is basically Raph 2.0. He HATES crime and doesn't give a **** who he hurts. In fact, his development is actually TO MAKE HIM SANE, because, throughout the course of the comics, Casey gradually became more and more human, and was more resourceful to the Turtles that way. This isn't IDW where you have multiple issues to develop the character; this is a 90 minute movie. Leave the little development you writers give to the Turtles, not Casey. Casey could remain flat the whole movie and we wouldn't have a problem with it... IF THE CHARACTER WAS PORTRAYED THE RIGHT ****ING WAY

I rewatched the (watchable parts of the) movie a few weekends ago, and it struck me during the lair invasion scene...
Splinter was WINNING the fight. That rat was totally holding his own against RoboShredder, dodging blades, landing blows, nearly stabbing RoboShredder through the eye... and then he gets worried maybe his giant hulking turtles are in danger, locks them out, and proceeds to get his ass whupped.
Yet another WTF moment from the mind of Michael Bay.

We're opposing everything because, based on what we've seen, they haven't really gotten many things right.
Let me name off the things that they've gotten right:
-Foot Ninja.
-New Shredder, who looks like a ninja.
-The fact that Bebop and Rocksteady are in this movie.
-Same Turtle actors.
Now, let's look at the bad.
-April O'Neil is still in this movie, and is most likely the main protagonist again.
-Casey Jones doesn't look like Casey Jones, and probably will not behave like Casey Jones.
-They're spending more of the budget on cars than they are on Turtles.
-The same team who brought us that "amazing" 2014 movie is still on board with this one.
-The NINJA Turtles get captured by the police.
-The SIX-FOOT TALL BULLETPROOF NINJA TURTLES are RESTRAINED by the police.
-The police are ESCORTING said six-foot tall bulletproof Ninja Turtles.

There are MANY MORE negatives about this movie than there are positive. The first movie alone should determine that this movie isn't going to be stellar.

There's no denying Megan Fox looks hot as f*ck in that schoolgirl costume, but it's not April. It's most likely not going to add anything to the movie, and it just proves that all of these producers just care about the sex appeal to the teenagers, who aren't going to see this movie anyways.

There's nothing wrong with sex appeal. Sexy is'nt a crime.
Her acting is criminal, in that all she brought to the screen was an attempt at sexy, which wasn't sexy when paired with what she said.
April IS a sexy character, whether she's a reporter, a computer programmer, a scientist, or a small business owner. She's got her **** together, so she's sexy. She's EXTRA sexy because she's physically attractive, she takes care of herself, and accepting of otherness - a rare combination of traits. At times she's nurturing, strong, independent, and at others she's vulnerable and demure. She's kinda the best of all worlds.
Unfortunately, Megan didn't give any of those vibes in her first outing, and instead we were subjected to other characters literally pointing at her sexuality and commenting on it. That isn't sexy, in any form, and never has been, be it the objectification of the self (be it Zsa Zsa Gabor or Cindy of 3's company, or Baywatch) or via some other party.
But we really need to stop vilifying sex. SEX is not the problem, and neither are beautiful people. Don't let the Puritans win, we're all better than that.

Sex appeal isn't bad, I'm not saying it isn't. But here's why it doesn't work:
1. April ISN'T a sexy character, with the exception of the 1980's show. She's more like a big sister to the Turtles.
2. Megan Fox's horrible acting is a crime, yes, but she made MULTIPLE INTERVIEWS during the production of the first movie where she said April wouldn't be sexualized. Now, they're putting her in the school girl outfit... It just doesn't fit the character, you know? Continuity. April isn't a sex appeal object, Megan Fox is. I don't see this character as April, I see it as Megan Fox trying desperately hard to play April.

The Turtles' actors were perfect. Hell, halfway through the movie, Johnny Knoxville's voice grew on me and I was thinking, "Yeah, that's Leonardo."
April, though? I couldn't get past Megan Fox. I saw Will Arnett for Vern, Whoopi Goldberg as Bernadette, and William Fichtner as Eric Sacks, but I didn't see Megan Fox as April.

I've got no problem with a bit of sexy in a movie. The problem is with how it's portrayed. Michael Bay does sexy the same way he does everything; flashy, loud, blatant, in your face, and just because. It's like the Fast and the Furious franchise, only worse.
Bay could be writing an intelligent movie, if he wanted (or knew how), and include sex appeal. Instead, he is writing a movie where 6ft 500lb Turtles with Hulk fighting techniques are somehow called ninjas, and are going to be drained of all their blood EVEN IF IT KILLS THEM. This movie is not written for an intelligent adult audience, or even an intelligent audience of children; it's written for ADHD spastic children who scream at their parents to take them to the new Ninja Turtles movie and buy them all the toys. Why is Megan Fox in a schoolgirl costume? Because dads are bored and need a few seconds of diversion, not because it has anything to do with a well-written script or story.

What i'm saying is more like this; fans lament things, and other fans regurgitate those same things after a while, so that it almost becomes a mantra. We divide along love/hate lines and spew vitriol that often boils down to a few essential albeit repetitive talking points.
Unfortunately, when they skim through forums like these, or other sites to gather data for the studio (a thing that they actually do, believe me) comments about sexuality can translate into sex is bad, remove all sex! similar to the way that they got the impression that moms hated the fighting in TMNT1, and so SOTO had the bulk of the violence removed - but not just removed - replaced with awkward fight scenes involving lunch meats.
But I digress. My point wasn't so much directed at you, as to the room. The new penchant for men donning hairshirts and habitually admonishing other men for hetero discussion has reached new levels of lunacy.

Tell that to tumbler, pinterest, deviantart, and, well, the internet as a whole.
She makes the top 10 of any sexy female cartoon blog anywhere. They comment in the 1990 movie. Eastman drew her to look like a porn-star in Mirage (at times).
What world are you living in?
Maybe that's head cannon, but that's head cannon the entire internet has adopted. Google it for yourself.
And just because you think of her as "more like a big sister to the Turtles", doesn't remove her sex-appeal for other characters, or the audience. I'm not advocating for an april-turtle love connection, but i'm sure there are many around that would.

I get it, but in a production this creatively bankrupt, what did you really expect? My hostility has turned to delirium.
I will say this - I'm fair when it comes to criticism. So far, Shredder is better, but still meh, they hired actors with the correct ethnicities for B&R, even if that should be a given, and the got rid of Liebseman.
But let's be real, should I give them props? It's a bit like celebrating a drunk's first day sober, or conversely, a bartender getting your rum and coke right on the fourth try.
The FOURTH try. Yeah....
I will give them a slow clap on Fox - for the sexy bit. She looks like Mirage April, just a enough, and completely by accident, for one scene.

Commenter, people can do whatever the hell they want, but I just feel that plastic surgery isn't needed in some cases like in Fox's. Sure, she's attractive, but she could have pulled that off without the surgery. And as for the schoolgirl outfit, it's just not something I would expect April to wear while going undercover. Yeah, Liebsman, that's how it works. I think he has a masters degree in Captain Obviousness.
"You can't ignore that a rainbow has a spectrum of colors, so I wanted to see that happen."
"You can't ignore that penguins are black and white, so I wanted to see that happen."
"You can't ignore that a unicorn looks like a horse with a horn, so I wanted to see that happen."
"You can't ignore that fans want it handled respectfully, so I wanted to see that happen. Wait, scratch that, I don't give a crap about that."
Edit: Actually, now I'm curious what he and Bay would do to Wizard of Oz, Happy Feet, and Legend. lol...Dude, stop. They're Teenage MUTANT Ninja Turtles that your writers nearly turned into aliens.
And didn't pay a single moments attention in class.
Those sorts are irritating, wannabe industry bigwigs that string all these words together to try to make it sound good, but what they're saying has little to no actual meaning at all. Just like politics it's all rhetoric.

They're using motion capture obviously, so there's only a certain degree to how big these things can be. Likely the size of the IDW B and R, but they're not going to be as big as one of the Transformers or something where you need complete CGI.

Well, Even with the Mo-Cap suit, They can make them look bigger, The Turtles are 6 feet tall and the actors were a little shorter, Which is why they have those balls on the top of there heads, For the eye lines, So I wouldn't be surprise if they do the same for Bebop and Rocksteady.

If the CGI characters are on those bikes, then I hope they're using green screen and putting them in later. No way to make it look big with the real world around them as size reference (*cough* Turtle clown car van). But maybe only the human characters will be on them, CGI might be too big.

That might not be a bad thing, but I've got some serious reservations. Think your source might find a way to get you a sneak peak?
They can't be that huge, considering they ride those choppers.
I highly doubt it, I don't know them well at all & they'd be (in their mind) taking the chance that a leak could occur, which of course would compromise their job. Even if they did trust me with some pictures, I wouldn't run the risk of a wide scale release by sharing them with others.

I remember last time, I think people begged and begged you for an idea of what the turtles looked like. That's not where I was going with it. Last time I simply asked if you liked it, and your response told me all I needed to know. I know it's going to be bad... guess i'm just wondering - how bad.

Not that it will necessarily be "good", but I do have a gut feeling it will be the Best thing about the entire fiasco.

I imagine they'll bear resemblance to the concept art we've seen of them. & whether or not that's good depends on which pieces they stick with. Some were very "right", others quite the opposite.

I'm sure that'll be the case, which is ironic given how their inclusion is the last thing that comes to mind when I think about how to improve this series. A far more welcomed duo would be new writers, for example...

The only thing I've heard, is that they don't look like any of the previous concept art released, but they also don't exactly look like they did in FW.
Then again, that's essentially what we heard about the Turtles in PDMT.
Someone working on the film did say that there is one character in particular that was giving the FX guys grief, as the studio was demanding change after change. They wouldn't say who specifically, but it was one of the main characters.

I wanna say I heard/read that somewhere too, but personally I think it's BS & that they're just not happy the leaks happened.
As for that second part, I'd guess Krang, given how wildly different his designs have been over the years. Even the concept art varied considerably from piece to piece.

Clearly we are currently in a movie art style period marked by an influence of testosterone levels high enough to kill thirty bull elephants.
Someday the film industry will have a renascence that returns to simple, but well done design that doesn't overwhelm the visuals and audience. Maybe.

There's nothing wrong with realism, except that realism used to be synonymous with authenticity. Now it's become the excuse to redesign CBM fashion, supposedly helping us suspend our disbelief, so that we buy into the story. There's the impossibly silly lie floating around that today's audience is to savvy and smart for primary colors and body hugging spandex.
If you ask me the new duds are compensating a bigger problem - storytelling dysfunction. For all the spectacle, there hasn't been a great CBM storey on screen in a very long time.
There's also a lack of unique artistry in the industry today. Looking at concept art, I defy you to tell one person from the next. They all design things the same wa, copying the most successful ideas in an ever increasing feedback loop of ugly. Originality is dying.
@indigoearth
It's hardly testosterone driven - the majority of realistic trends center around making CBM costumes functional for female heroes, removing anything traditionally feminine about them, for a more unisex, comfortable, often militaristic vibe.
Why a fictional SUPER person needs to be comfortable is beyond me, but anyways....
It's the Nolan effect. Everyone thinks they should borrow from his realistic approach, because that's what fans want.
Foombamaroom
07-06-2015, 07:53 AM
Here's the thing: everyone's confusing realism and grit. A realistic movie doesn't necessarily have to be dark, serious, and brooding. Think of Captain America: TWS. Its tone WAS pretty realistic, and up until the very end, the action scenes were pretty realistic, too. You can have a dark TMNT movie because it works with TMNT, due to the fact that TMNT started off as a darker franchise. You could also have a lighthearted movie because that also works with the franchise.
However, you CANNOT have a movie which is darker in tone for the first 40 minutes and then shifts into some goofy shitfest in the next 40 minutes. While I'll take that goofy shitfest over the darker half of that movie any day due to the fact that there are actually Turtles in it, it just makes that 40 minute dark tone period feel incredibly useless and brings down the movie.

It's distinguish left and the right side of the wire-frame skeleton the motion capture is going on to. So that the animators won't mistake the left arm for the right arm when animating. Red is left side and green is the right side, while yellow is the torso.

Facebook. It happened. I played Casey Jones. The movie is going to come out in theaters - JUNE 3rd, 2016!!! - and everything. What a surreal experience. Went from an all nighter in Vancouver to finish up Arrow straight to New York via Calgary and the adventure began. I'd like to thank some people: Drew and Brad at Platinum Dunes showed a lot of faith in a guy who'd never done a studio feature film. Liz at Paramount followed through on a great meeting over a year ago and we got to work together. All the cast: Laura, Megan, Will, Stephen, Gary, Brian and of course, The Turtles: Noel, Pete, Jeremy and Alan. You guys had me at ease on Day 1. Thanks for being so welcoming. To Dave, Dave again, Pablo and Alex... that's a great directing quartet right there. And of course Dennis: You are one of a kind. Matt helming the A Camera, you are a tour de force my friend. And Lula... you just make **** look cool. To Eve & Gary, I'd simply be wretched without you. And to Pete, Chris, Randy and Tim, thanks for knocking with just the right amount of authority. Lastly, thank you to Spiro & Jim for what was - undoubtedly - the greatest professional week of my life. When you see Casey's final action sequence just know that it's stunt man free save for one small shot because these two put their trust in me. Also, because they're insane. I lost 8 pounds over the course of five shooting days. So there we have it. The list could go on but this will have to do for now. I'm so proud of the work we put forth over the last three months. And just like that, production begins on the 70th episode of Arrow this Monday. Now that's what I call a hiatus! SA

Yeah, actually it was later April, just before my b-day so it's been easy to remember. So, around/almost three months.
Sounds so short for something so big, but three months I guess is about average for a regular film (or so it has usually seemed to me), and of course that doesn't include the months of post production still to come. Now our boys can go on to get added in courtesy of their awesome actors. ;)
Edit: If we want to get technical, they did those early things - the basketball stuff - in March, I believe. Though there was space between that the rest of the filming.

Foombamaroom
07-08-2015, 05:28 PM
You see, the idea of a human protagonist wouldn't piss me off so much (It'd still piss me off) if it wasn't Megan Fox. Like, if you're going to have someone as April and have her run around for 90 minutes as the main character, you might as well get someone who can actually act.
But seriously, this movie was done with $125 MILLION. And look at the second half of it: it was filled with Turtles. You add, like, 75 million to that budget, and you've got an actual Turtles' movie. And don't give me that "it's too expensive" crap. Here are three solutions to that:
1. No one gives a **** about big-named actors, as long as they can act. People want to see April O'Neil, not someone playing April O'Neil. That's why the Turtles were so convincing: the only one who was actually somewhat popular was Noel.
2. Don't overcomplicate the designs so you can cut down on the CGI. <-- Yeah, I know it sounds crazy, but let me explain: I'm all for giving a few extra things to the Turtles' appearances. However, don't go freaking overboard with it. Give them like 2-3 additional features. Also, don't fully-CGI characters you don't need to CGI, like Shredder. Build a Shredder costume, and then add a little bit of CGI to the armor in post production to make the metal and blades look more authentic.
3. This is similar to 2, but it's different: big budget action scenes ARE NOT necessary for TMNT. I mean, with characters like Krang and the Technodrome, yeah, that's understandable. But Shredder? Nah, G. That Snow Chase scene, while fun, wasn't necessary. The best thing about the Turtles compared to other "superheroes" is that they AREN'T superheroes. They're ninja. And ninja should use ninjutsu in their battles, not a f-cking robo-bo-staff to flip a hummer, Jesus Christ.
I will say this: my little brother made me watch all four Transformers movies with him (I survived. I'm an actual survivor. Freaking 11 hours straight of mindless nonsense and I SURVIVED.) and Jesus Christ, they were dreadful. After watching them, I'm gonna play Devil's Advocate for TMNT here.
1. The movie gave us more Turtles than the Transformers movies give Transformers. With Turtles, when the Turtles showed up, they were in the movie. With Transformers... My God. They do not focus on them AT ALL. Even when they're on screen, it's almost impossible to tell what's going on. And when they are actually shown for a majority of the movie (AoE showed them a lot more than the other movies, imo, with Revenge of the Fallen as a close second) THE TRANSFORMERS ARE UNBEARABLY RACIST/STUPID. The Turtles were used solely for action purposes, yeah, but at least you could tell what the hell was going on. With the Transformers, you'd see about 2 seconds of fighting and 10 seconds of Shia LaBeouf's reaction. In fact, there wasn't even a Galvatron vs. Optimus fight. Rather than showing said fight, they were showing Tessa's reaction to it. Jesus flipping Christ. Plus, the camera is SO GODDAMN CLOSE. I think Bay forgets that he's going to put Transformers in the shot, and he just shoots the camera at such low angles that it hurts your head to try to look. You know what's ironic, though? Revenge of the Fallen and Age of Extinction were easily the worst of the four, but I could actually see what was going on at times, more so in Revenge of the Fallen than Age of Extinction. Revenge of the Fallen had the Shanghai fight, the fight in the woods (<-- Probably the only part of the series I legitimately enjoyed), and the Fallen fight. And I could tell what was going in the Age of Extinction Dinobot charge.
2. The writers, while horrendous, at least got the Turtles "right" (I USE THAT WORD VERY LOOSELY.). Kurtzman and Orci, the writers of the first Transformers movie... Well... They got Prime right, in my opinion. And Megatron. But that's about it. And then... Ehren Kruger took over. And Jesus Christ, by the fourth movie, you had Optimus killing humans, yelling he's going to kill Decepticons, and just... Gah. At least we know that these writers, while idiotic, kept the general gist of who the characters are. Say what you want about Megan Fox as April, but they didn't write her character that wrong. She's a reporter who meets the Turtles. They just overcomplicated the hell out of her. The Transformers... Dear God. They fall under three categories: 1. Racist, stereotype, or a racist stereotype, 2. Background extra. 3. One-dimensional (Optimus, Megatron). The thing that "amazes" me with the Transformers movies is just how bad the writing is. Like, the TMNT movie writing was so bad, but it felt bad because it literally felt like what they did: They did re-shoots, so they had to change some things but had to keep in mind that some footage was already shot. That's not an excuse, but at least I understood why it felt awful (Blue Door felt awful, too, but at least that story made a little bit of sense, besides the alien origin). The godforsaken Transformers movies, though... Dear God. They're overstuffed, they don't make sense, and they don't. F*cking. End.
What I'm trying to say here? Be thankful that we don't have the Transformers team on this... we could have Ehren Kruger as our screenwriter, but we don't.
Also, be thankful you don't have a 10 year old little brother who makes you watch all four of those things, Jesus-F*cking-Christ.

My wife likes them. But holy sh*t, you're right about 'em. Especially how they NEVER END and it's impossible to tell what's actually going on because it's just sh*t blowing up EVERYWHERE. I maintain, the first one is a nice, fun little action flick that could've used more Transformers in it. Everything else is just Every Single Thing Wrong With Movies Nowadays, x 1000.
I hate TMNT just as much from a different direction, but I can't argue with ya. Other than to say, I'm more likely to watch any Transformers movie again in my lifetime than I am to ever willingly watch TMNT again. Reason being, I kind of never cared much about Trasnformers, I had a few as a kid and watched the show sometimes, so while I'm well aware they're blasphemous to the source material AND horrible films besides, I'm less emotionally invested, so I can at least endure them if they're on when my wife's watching them or something. I can't watch TMNT. I care too much, I'm too invested, and I can't stop shouting "WHY'd they f*ckin' DO THAT?!" at my TV.
I mean it, I can't, because every five seconds, they give you a new reason!
I get ya, though.

So filming has finished. Liked the Arnell post quoted above.
There's plenty of negativity around here. But I am looking forward to this!
Yes! On to editing and CGI! :tlove:
Ignore the negativity, they amount to nothing but ****. Won't make any difference. ;):tcool:

My wife likes them. But holy sh*t, you're right about 'em. Especially how they NEVER END and it's impossible to tell what's actually going on because it's just sh*t blowing up EVERYWHERE. I maintain, the first one is a nice, fun little action flick that could've used more Transformers in it. Everything else is just Every Single Thing Wrong With Movies Nowadays, x 1000.

Yeah, I'm like that, too. I never really got into Transformers, so that's why those movies don't sting as much. TMNT stings so much because it's basically good Turtles in a horrible movie. They got Splinter so wrong, they got the origin story so wrong, and they got Shredder and the Foot so wrong. I mean, TMNT has its "bad movie benefits." I mean, it's shorter, so you don't have to deal with the feeling of sickness in your stomach for as long as you do with the Transformers, the Turtles themselves were okay, and when the action's there, you can see what's going on. What surprised me is that the use of shaky cam wasn't really there with TMNT compared to Transformers... Jesus Christ. The reason why I really don't like the first Transformers movie is the action: I CANNOT TELL WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON.
Meanwhile, my brother's looking in awe at these things. I'm like, "How do you like this?" and he's like, "It's so cool! The fights are awesome!" and I'm just like, "IT LOOKS LIKE TWO JUNKYARDS HAVING SEX WITH EACH OTHER! I CAN'T EVEN TELL WHO THE HELL IS FIGHTING WHO?!"
You know what's weird, though? I recently saw Terminator Genisys... and I found myself thinking I'd rather watch a Bayformers movie. Why? Simple. While the plots in Bayformers are AWFUL and overcomplicated, they don't exactly shove it in your face. It only hurts to think about when you absolutely have to think about it. With the new Terminator, the plot is so stupid, and it's constantly FORCED in your face when it makes no sense whatsover. And just like how Peter Cullen is the one pure good thing about Transformers, Arnold is the one great thing about the new Terminator.

I'm a HUGE Game of Thrones fan, and I thought she was going to be fantastic... I'll say this, she worked with what she had. Some of the lines were just... awful. And I mean awful.

I wish I could go back in time to that Who will win August thread and just flat out say it would be GotG
A comic book movie about a comic book and characters nobody had ever heard of outside of like 10 comic book fans, beat out the NINJA TURTLES in theaters.
Beat the F*CK out of them.
That's really sad.

TMNT2 has no chance next year, because it's going up against the following:
X-Men Apocalypse
Batman V. Superman
Suicide Squad
Captain America 3: Civil War
Can you say Royally F***ed? And those are just the heavy hitters, not including stuff like Doctor Strange or Deadpool...
The Boston Ninja Turtle

eh, i wouldnt out count deadpool as not being a heavy hitter...the hype train is there...
remember deadpool has a very odd fanbase you have his comic fans, his new fans, and half the population of convention goers who dress up as the guy just to fit it...the movie will do just fine
just go to spencer gifts, newbury comics, hot topic, any pop culture store in recent years
and sure tmnt falls under that too, but deadpools design was pretty much kept the exact same..unlike the turtles
id say its def one of the more anticipated movies of that year

And that's what I predict. Not losing respectably, but getting freaking buried. Forgotten.
Might be for the best. I hope for a better TMNT movie, but I fear that I do not have it in my heart to expect good things. Quoth the raven, Nevermore.

Next year is going to be like Marvel vs DC on who's going to make more money. Marvel will beat DC by a long shot.
I think TMNT 2 will make more than the 1st movie but I know it won't beat X-Men, Captain American and Batman vs Superman and maybe Deadpool. I'm a bit unsure of Suicide Squad and Doctor Strange, I think TMNT could beat those two.
Also, don't forget there's Warcraft (which could pull a summer shocker) and Independence Day 2, Isn't Finding Dory out also. So June coud be a big month.
I expect TMNT 2 will knock X-Men off the top spot and then maybe Warcraft will knock TMNT 2 of the top spot a week later (But in the UK it's going to be Turtles vs Orcs on June 3rd).

1. Deadpool, while with a strong fanbase, definitely won't be a heavy-hitter. I mean, it's R, so you're not going to see that movie get more than, like, 500 million.
2. TMNT should be able to go toe-to-toe with some of those movies, but they won't. I doubt this movie is going to make less money than the first, though. Everyone thought they were going to be aliens in the first, and that caused the ticket sales to drop. Another factor is that they put it right after GotG. Now, TMNT is a week after X-Men... The people at the studio just don't f*cking learn, do they? TMNT IS a property that could beat out X-Men, but everyone knows it's Michael Bay. And the people who don't know it's Michael Bay took one look at the Turtles and went, "OH HELL NO."

I loved how GOTG beat out TMNT as that movie was way better. And, yeah, I didn't really know the characters that well, but that made it all the more fun and the action was great, too. That movie nailed it, and I definitely can't wait to see the second one. But with TMNT, I just had a vibe it would be wrong and it was. Sad thing is, my sister's stepsons love it and keep telling me it's hilarious and that I'll like it. I just keep saying, "Nope, not my thing." What I really want to say is, "Well, you haven't been a fan of TMNT as long as I have, so it's going to be good to you. For me, it's not good because I've been a fan of this franchise since I was a kid and I know what works and what doesn't. This movie doesn't work."

You know what the funny thing is? I recently started getting my brother into TMNT by making him read some of the comics and watch a few episodes of the show. So, he didn't see the movie with me because he was at camp when it came out (and he didn't see me walk out of the theatre, either.), and I made him watch in December. From someone who has only seen 6 episodes of TMNT tops, and who has only read the first few issues of IDW, even he knew something was up. The first thing he asked was where Hamato Yoshi was, and he thought Shredder looked like Megatron. The only thing he didn't pick up on was the fact that April was the main character. So, you know your movie's bad when the younger ones can pick up on the movie being bad.

Lol, TMNT picked June for its month. That has X-Men, Warcraft, Dory, AND Independence Day. Yeah, they're f-ed. I dunno why they won't take a November or October date. I mean, the movie didn't make enough money for it to be considered a summer blockbuster. Hell, even Batman vs. Superman, which will probably be the biggest movie of 2016 (This is the first time these two have been on screen together... I'm not all that excited based on Goyer writing it and the casting choices, but even I know this movie is going to be BIG.), is taking a March release date. When you have a release date in the months prior to or after summer, no one's going to be booking those spots, and that gives the movie the best shot to make money.
