Platinum Dunes' marketing department cheques finally went through? :trazz:

Okay, I'll bite... best what yet? BayTurtles movie? It's the second one and the first one was hot garbage, so... very possibly, sure. Platinum Dunes movie overall? Not a very high bar, but that's relative to their track record - even "the best" venereal disease is still a pretty unpleasant thing to have. Best TMNT movie yet? HAHA NOPE.

And I'm curious what you mean by "star-studded". As far as I can tell, the only genuine "stars" in this movie are Laura Linney and Tyler Perry, and those are likely to be small roles. Will Arnett might qualify, but he's not leading-man famous. Maybe Megan Fox qualifies based on name recognition, but her career was dead before she was tossed a BayTurtles life preserver. Stephen Amell is somewhat well-known for Arrow, but nothing else - a far cry from a "star" at this point. Who else is there?

However it's still a Bay movie, so it will never be better than the 1990 one.

My response to that... sitting here like Nick Mikey while Donnie tries to explain quadratic equations to him.

Celebrities present does not inherently make things better. And in this case where they should NOT be the focus... it would only make it worse.

The first film was about product placement. The second seems to be celebrity placement.

Will they ever grasp the fact that the Turtles - and through them THEIR actors - are the stars? I'm guessing either by the 5th sequel or never, which ever comes first. If Bay & Co. ever want to show they are really worth anything as film makers, not just businessmen, they'll figure that the hell out. But that would require them to actually care about film making as an art, not just as a money making scheme.

Just because big names are in a movie, doesn't mean they will be good. In the first BayTurtles movie, Will Arnett could have been amazing in it, but there was nothing for him to work with.

'Star-studded''s a little over the top, Megan's the only one who might qualify for that title, and she will probably provide a fair portion of the box office by virtue of Hotness.
How much box office Bad/Pretty Boy Arnett will contribute remains to be seen.
Sequels almost always suck, I'm hoping for something that's a least a fun super hero ride, since I WILL be buying the DVD (see 'Megan' and 'Hotness', above).

^^^ Megan's 'hotness' is kind of subjective. There are other actresses that look far better then her. And if it's the only thing that 'saves' a movie, then that's a sad commentary on that movie.

I mean, I guess how hot you find an actor/actress can play a part in wanting to see a movie... but I don't see how that alone enough to watch and own it.

(I mean, people can own movies for whatever reason they want, not judging that, to each their own. I've got a shelf of terrible comic movies bought used, and mostly to laugh at. But I've never bought a movie and out it on my DVD shelf just because I found an actress attractive.)

These are the most pressing questions I guess. Will Megan's butt be all up in the camera in the trailers? Will they have the good sense to show Amell shirtless in every reedited preview because sex sells and works both ways? (Mind you, not that they comprehend it working both ways.)

'Hot Butt Explosion' is awesome, I'm totally stealing that for a band name!
Revenge of the Fallen is part of my DVD collection exclusively because Megan's in it, otherwise, it's crap.
The merits of Jonah Hex and Passion Play are debatable, Megan's presence makes them worthy.
The Vampire Diaries started to soap-opera-suck after episode 7, but Katerina Graham (Bonnie the witch) makes subsequent episodes watchable, despite the phonily manufactured teengirly drah-mah.
She's also in Honey 2, which may be the best of all the hip-hop dance movies (that's not saying much....) and Dance Fu, the stupidest, most useless wanna-be 'parody' of Karate Kid - and dance movies ever tortured onto film.
Oscars?
Who cares?
I've never put any stock in that self-congratulatory, highly rigged BS.

If they concentrate the movie on the Turtles and respect the material, then yeah, the movie will be good. These writers wrote MI4, which proves they CAN screenwrite something decent.

However, we all know that's not going to happen. This movie is going to focus on Casey and April, and barely give enough time for the Turtles.

That's actually something that could come out fairly well, considering that this likely to be another Speshul- FX- Palooza with nary a thought wasted on unnecessary silliness like background, plot, acting, what-have-you.
Whether or not the writers, directors and producers know their audience is debatable.
They do know that the hugely overwhelming majority of ticket- and possibly merchandise buyers are folks who want to forget about their dull, boring lives for 2 hours by sitting in a movie theater, fattening themselves up (even further) with massively overpriced snacks and sugar water and watching extremely good-looking people shoot mega-guns, making gigantonormous Alien Zombie robots explode.
Which is exactly what they're gonna get.

If you ask me, this movie could still potentially be the second best tmnt movie.

I love Steve Baron's 1990 film, but I don't even bother owning the other movies. "Secret of the Ooze" holds a special place in my heart though. I quite like that movie actually. ..it's fun.

I'll give you that.

The POTENTIAL to be second to the original 1990 definitely exists. But the ODDS of that happening are about the same odds as... oh, Winnie the Pooh winning the Hunger Games.

When WB Finally buys the Franchise from Viacom once they are 'bored' with it...then they can focus on doing TMNT RIGHT and try to surpass the 1990 Film. At the moment we're still in the never ending Batman & Robin phase of TMNT. Give them 2 more years to end the run of the NICK cartoon and at least one more craptacular baymovie after this one...it will get better just gotta keep the faith :tcool:

Psh. They've got a lot to prove after the first one and that's on them to do better, not on me to accept it better.

Faith can only be applied to a third film (should that exist), IF they leave a better impression with the second. If someone with score cards was judging their performance production, they would certainly be skeptical of the second if the first one fell flat (flat on the ice - ok, snow - no less).

If I was to post on here next year saying I'm pleasantly surprised with what they did this time, that would be great, but I won't get any hopes up that that will be happening.

i think it could. give it the time theyre filming and possbilly improve the CGI a little more. and if the story is good, and not rushed it like they did to please whiney fanboys. then yes i think it can the best one yet.

Let's forget that Danny Woodburn has publicly confirmed that apart from Shredder and Sachs being seperate characters the plot of the movie was exactly the same.

Let's Also forget that Michael Bay himself has publicly said he ordered the movie to be rewritten and reshot because he personally didn't like Liebesman's first cut thinking it was too mature?

Not to mention that early on while shooting they were changing supposedly important plot that fans weren't even aware of and yet somehow you're claiming this was all done to please us? :o

I suppose you could say the changeover from their Blue Door script to...um the cut in half and tweaked Blue Door script that we got was because of fan complaints but then did you really want that as the movie? Are you seriously suggesting that the movie would have been better without that interference?

Yeah I honestly can't believe some people are half-blaming the fans for the movie sucking. If anything, without the "whiny fans" the movie would've likely sucked even harder. Just seems like a really faulty argument, since there's ample evidence to show that the studio really didn't know how to adapt TMNT properly in the first place.
