Does Dregg not get enough credit?

I just find it strange that people wanted to see a more competent threatning villain and when they mention Dregg they think he's lame compared to Shredder and Krang. Is it really because he replaced Shredder and Krang and that's the reason he doesn't get as much credit? He was brilliant, cunning, started a smear campaign against the Turtles that actually worked until he was exposed.

If Dregg didn't replace Krang and Shredder, would he have had more positive feedback? Because I don't see how a powerful, intelligent and competent villain gets so little attention.

He had that shtick of having to live up to the greatness that came before him and it is rarely equaled or surpassed. Dregg failed to live up to it. Was he a bigger threat as far as intimidating plots and more of a serious villain? The answer is yes. If Shredder was in the cartoon at the time then he would have been about as threatening as it was a more serious tone. The seriousness of Shredder taking such a hit amounts to a few things. One, the time in which the series was produced was a lighter time. Just think of how production was afraid of a black man being abused by an Asian man yet fifteen years later censors allow for a black Baxter to be ripped apart to becoming a one eyed brain in a jar given shock treatments to control. There is also the fact the series ran for so long and if Shredder is going to be the main threat it will get harder with one failed attempt after another and the ideas for effective evil plots waning. With that in mind and the trend for a darker cartoon starting around 1994 Shredder was just starting to get his edge back when another villain who continue the more serious threat in his own way as he was both Shredder and Krang not just one or the other. I personally do not like Dregg. He is just boring to me and yes I would much rather have Shredder as the villain than anyone. If not Rat King or some villain that would still have a connection like Berserko did. So does he deserve for credit? Well, as long as he is recognized as the villain at the end of the classic cartoon and a serious threat then that is it. I am surprised Nick thought the character was effective enough to be dusted off and retooled. So some one in the Nick offices is giving him credit.

I personally think some rejected to him because he wasn't Shredder or Krang. As simple as it sounds, people do get angry or disappointed when there's change, even if the change is an improvement. He might have been given more credit if he didn't actually replace Shredder and Krang and was just a villain that showed up every once in a while. But I think fans get touchy whenever there's some kind of change, and I feel he was rejected mostly because he wasn't Shredder or Krang and they weren't used to him.

I didn't find him boring but interesting in some ways. I like how he focused on conquering the Earth like Krang but slowly started to lose his mind and started focusing more on revenge like Shredder. He's the only one who attempted to pretend to be a good guy, too.

I loved Lord Dregg. I think he was a great replacement for Shredder and Krang during the final two seasons.

How could he not get enough credit, I thought it was a refreshing change of pace replacing Shredder and Krang. Granted the series shifted to less comedy and more action so it's almost an entirely different show. But I liked Dregg for what he was.

Dregg was fine. But it took me a while to warm up to him. Wasn't a big fan of season 9 as a whole. No that it was a bad season, mind you, but it's probably my least favorite season of the FW series.

However, in season 10, when he goes insane, he becomes awesome. When even Krang calls you "mad", you know you're not on the right path :lol:

Its not just droping the Technodrome gang, but the Channel Six News crew as well. I wonder if the direction was not strong enough at the time. Dregg having an arc like Titanus did would have worked better in retrospect. He could have come back like he did in the finale though I would put it the second to last episode.

As disinterested in Dregg as I am you have to respect Tony Jay. At the same time of voicing Dregg he was pushing the envelope singing Hellfire for Disney.

The mutations were pointless and only held the Turtles back. It made them dumber. At least Carter's was useful. It has saved the Turtles a few times.

And even though I enjoyed the Turtles being outcasts, they kind of already were in season 8. Season 9 just felt like a new status quo. As a kid, I just kept thinking "when will they get rid of Dregg?". Fortunately season 10 was a step up.

The best episode of that season was Split-Second, imo.

I think it would have been fine if Turtle Trek had been the last episode of the series. The last couple of season was just beating a dead horse. The problem with the series getting stale wasn't in Shredder, Krang, Bebop. Rocksteady and secondary characters like the Channel Six crew. So such sudden changes weren't the best strategy.

And yes, Tony Jay did a great job with Dregg.

I thought Dregg was a decent villain. He could've been introduced better in season 9, though, as Shredder and Krang weren't written out of the series well, in my opinion. Dregg was at his best in season 10, since he was very cunning at times and fought a lot in that season.

The funniest part of it all is Nick is bringing back Lord Dregg for Season 4 of the Nick cartoon. He'll probably only be in a few episodes while the Turtles are in space rather than the entire season, but it'll be nice to see him.

Oddly Beserko was in a Tiger Electronics game as the main villain yet not Dregg who was more powerful, dangerous and the main villain for two seasons while Beserko had one episode.

What was the deal with Playmates not making toys featuring characters from TMNT final seasons? No Dregg and Carter toys from the red sky era of the original cartoon. No Cyber Shredder or Khan from the Back To The Sewer season of the 4Kids series. Both shows definitely had plenty of opportunities for toys.

Dregg's exoskeleton in the final episode would have been an amazing toy. He would fit inside the suit and you could swap different arms with other different kinds of arms like tentacles, chains, blades, and add 2 more arms that you can attach to it. Plus they could have it so you could add wheels to the toy, like when he was chasing the Turtles when he changed his body to a motorcycle-like vehicle. That was a toally missed opprtunity for a great toy. Carter and his mutant form, Megavolt and his Bug-like armor, Titanus, Beserko and his Annihilator would have been great. Back to the Sewers should have had toys as well with Cyber Shredder and Khan especially.
